Many
readers will be able to recall that one Anamta Ahmed, a Mumbai resident,
endured a life-altering incident nearly two years ago when she suffered an
electric shock from an 11 KV cable. At just 13 years old, she experienced
severe burns while playing with her cousins in Aligarh. The consequences were
dire: her right hand had to be amputated, and her left hand retained only 20
percent functionality.
Two years ago, Anamta suffered a huge shock and massive burn injuries
after she accidentally touched an 11 KV cable.
------
Despite the
odds stacked against her, the brave girl scored an impressive 92 percent in her
class 10 examinations. Additionally, she emerged as the top scorer in Hindi at
her school, boasting a remarkable 98 percent. While she had always demonstrated
academic brilliance, the trauma she endured could have easily led anyone into a
state of despair. Yet, amidst the physical pain and emotional turmoil, her
unwavering positivity became her guiding light, propelling her forward. This is
the triumph of indomitable human spirit.
Adversities
are great but humans are greater than adversities. "Regzaar Ko Bhi
Chaman Mein Badal De/ Woh Quvvat Hai Insaan Mein" (Every human has a
strength to turn a desert into a garden). While Anamta has proven this with her
exemplary guts and gumption, every individual has this ability embedded in
him/her to bounce back and rewrite his/her destiny.
The
legendary English umpire Frank Chester was a budding cricketer but he lost his
hand during the First World War. Yet, he remained in the game, albeit in a
different role and went on to become arguably the greatest umpire in the history
of cricket.
Sudha
Chandran's right leg was amputated following an accident. She subsequently
regained some mobility with the help of a prosthetic Jaipur foot and returned
to dancing after a hiatus of two years. She performed in many countries. Life
constantly throws challenges at us to test our spirit, resilience and
strengths.
Most of us
capitulate. But there're individuals like Anamta, Frank Chester, Sudha Chandran
among others who don't throw in the towel and emerge as winners proving
Ghalib's almost proverbial Misra-e-Saani (second line in a couplet): Mushkilein
Mujh Par Padeen Itni Ki Aasaan Ho Gayeen. Life is all about facing all
sorts of hurdles and overcoming them. May Anamta's example inspire all.
By the way,
she justifies her name because Anamta means, 'a beautiful blessing' or 'a gift
from god.' She must be felicitated by the government and help must be provided
to her so that she can shine in life.
