UP CM: Those Who Talk About
Jihad Should Remember, India Is The Land Of Lord Ram And Lord Krishna

Pradesh Chief Minister and BJP leader Yogi Adityanath at an election rally in
Solapur on Wednesday. PTI- | Photo Credit: -

May 5, 2024
Chief Minister Yogi
Adityanath on Saturday said that those who talk about ‘jihad’ are tarnishing
democracy and they should remember that India is the land of Lord Ram and Lord
Krishna.
Adityanath was addressing a
public meeting in Farrukhabad in support of sitting BJP MP Mukesh Rajput, who
is seeking re-election from the Lok Sabha constituency. His remarks came days
after Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Maria Alam, the niece of senior Congress
leader Salman Khurshid, called for “vote jihad” in favour of Naval Kishore
Shakya, the INDIA bloc candidate from Farrukhabad Lok Sabha seat of Uttar
Pradesh.
According to a statement
issued by the BJP, Adityanath said the people of the SP and the Congress are
trying to create divisions on religious lines. “This is a conspiracy to
Islamise India. Under this, they talk about vote jihad. There is no jihad in
voting, we have to vote for the strongest democracy in the world so that our
rights are protected,” he said.
Addressing a public meeting
in Kaimganj earlier this week, Alam said “vote jihad” was necessary in the
current situation for the minority community to oust the BJP government.
Attacking opposition
parties, Adityanath said, “Those who robbed the rights of the poor… have
started remembering jihad. They should know that the land of India belongs to
Ram and Krishna and not jihad.” “You have seen India before and after 2014.
India before 2014 had lost confidence in the world and was plagued by terrorism
and Naxalism. The poor were not able to get benefits of government schemes,” he
said.
Addressing a public meeting
in Bidhuna in Auraiya to seek votes for sitting Kannauj MP and BJP candidate
Subrat Pathak, Adityanath said Lord Ram played Holi in Ayodhya recently and
“such a magnificent event would not have been possible under SP, BSP and
Congress governments which questioned the existence of Lord Ram”.
Targeting the UPA
government, he said terror attacks had become a “routine affair” in the country
during its tenure. “The Samajwadi Party, which backed the UPA government, went
to the extent of withdrawing cases against terrorists. In response, the court
had rebuked the SP, saying that if they were discussing withdrawal of cases
today, they might honour them with Padma Awards tomorrow,” the chief minister
said.

BJP’s Online Video,
“Beware.. Beware.. Beware..!” Sparks Outrage For ‘Demonising Muslims’

-------
05-05-2024
A social media post by the
Bharatiya Janata Party’s Karnataka unit on Saturday triggered outrage online,
with critics attacking it for “demonising Muslims”.
The animated video captioned
“Beware.. Beware.. Beware..!” in Kannada, featured caricatures of Congress
leader Rahul Gandhi and Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah placing an egg
with “Muslims” written on it in a nest alongside three eggs marked as “SC
[Scheduled Castes], ST [Scheduled Tribes] and OBC [Other Backward Classes]”.
The video showed Gandhi
feeding “funds” only to the bird, shown wearing a skullcap, as it hatches out
of the “Muslim” egg. The bird pushes away the fledgings that hatched out of the
other three eggs, followed by laughter.
The video posted on social
media platform X as part of the Lok Sabha elections campaign triggered widespread
criticism on the social media platform.
Actor Prakash Raj called the
BJP’s post “shameless”. Raj said that “inclusive [and] peace loving Karnataka
and our country” will teach the Hindutva party a “befitting lesson.. for your
disgusting.. hate spreading.. communal politics..”.
Professor Nitasha Kaul, a
British academic of Indian origin, wrote on X that the video was “a
straightforward 1930s Germany-style cartoon”, referring to the propaganda by
Nazi Germany during the period. “One of many violations of electoral conduct
rules,” the professor of politics at the University of Westminster said.
The Model Code of Conduct is
a set of guidelines issued by the poll panel for political parties and
candidates to follow during poll campaigns. It sets guardrails for speech,
among other things.
Sumanth Raman, an analyst
and political commentator, similarly called the BJP’s post “shameful”. “If this
is not a violation of the Election Code of Conduct then the code itself needs
to be scrapped,” he wrote on X.
If this is not a violation
of the Election Code of Conduct then the code itself needs to be scrapped.
Shameful. #Elections2024 #ElectionCommission https://t.co/jXQmDe2B42
On Sunday, the Congress
filed a complaint against BJP National President JP Nadda, the Hindutva party’s
information technology department in-charge Amit Malviya and BJP’s state unit
chief BY Vijayendra. The Congress alleged that the video posed by the BJP
intimidated members of the Schedule Castes and Scheduled Tribes not to vote for
a particular candidate with an intention to create feelings of enmity, hatred
and ill-will against the communities, ANI reported.
It also alleged that the
BJP’s video had violated the poll code by portraying the Congress as favouring
a particular religion and suppressing members of Schedule Castes and Scheduled
Tribes, and Other Backward Classes.
Congress leader Manickam
Tagore had said on Saturday that the “blatant demonisation of minorities by
[the] ruling BJP is unacceptable”. “The [Election Commission] must wake up to
its responsibility and address the divisive tactics of the BJP,” the MP from
Tamil Nadu said on social media. “Unity, not division, should be the goal for a
thriving democracy.”
“It [Election Commission]
has been reduced to a joke – a cruel joke that is supervising and encouraging
the complete destruction of a fair electoral process built over decades,”
Gokhale said in a social media post. “Shame is an understatement. This election
officially has no rules left anymore for BJP or Modi.”
“This all started with PM
[Narendra Modi],” wrote Soz on Saturday, referring to comments made by the
prime minister in recent weeks. “The criminal silence of [the Election
Commission] is formalising our [minorities’] second class status. I appeal to
all Indians to teach BJP a lesson for this treasonous behaviour!”
Modi, at a poll rally in
Rajasthan on April 21, claimed that the Congress would survey and seize private
wealth, including the mangalsutras of married Hindu women, and redistribute it
among “infiltrators” and “those who have more children”, an apparent reference
to the Muslim community.
The Congress’ manifesto
neither refers to confiscation of private property, nor to mangalsutras. Modi’s
claim was a distortion of a speech in 2006 by Congress leader Manmohan Singh,
the prime minister at the time. Singh had spoken about the need to uplift all
disadvantaged communities, not just the religious minorities. Moreover, the
Modi government has repeatedly told Parliament that it has no data on illegal
immigrants.
Modi’s comments received
widespread condemnation and complaints from the Opposition and civil society
groups. Rights groups said that Modi’s remarks violated section 125 of the 1951
Representation of the People Act, which prohibits promoting enmity between
groups, and violates the poll code.
On April 23, Modi
incorrectly claimed that in Karnataka, the Congress had instituted reservations
on the basis of religion – for Muslims – through illegal means. “Through a
single notification, it included all Muslim communities in the OBC [Other
Backward Classes] quota,” he alleged. “The Congress snatched away a big part of
OBC reservations and gave it on the basis of religion.”
In 1962, the Congress
government in Karnataka had included certain castes of Muslim communities in
the Other Backward Classes list, not on the basis of religion, but on the basis
of social and economic backwardness. It was the government of the Janata Dal
(Secular) – now a BJP ally – that had extended the quotas to all Muslim
communities in 1994.
Karnataka is just one of 14
states and Union territories where Muslim communities are included in the Other
Backward Classes list. This includes Gujarat, where Modi was chief minister.
On Tuesday, the BJP had
posted an animation video on its Instagram account pushing Modi’s claim that
the Congress would redistribute the private wealth of Indians to Muslims if it
comes to power in the Lok Sabha polls. “If the Congress party comes to power,
it will snatch all the money and wealth of non-Muslims and distribute it to Muslims
– their favourite community!” the video said.
A day later, the video had
been taken down. It is unclear if it was removed by the BJP or by Instagram
after users reported it as hate speech.

Muslim Cleric, Head of
Indonesian Ulema Council, Reaffirms Ban on Interfaith Marriage

Ban
on Interfaith Marriage in Indonesia
------
The Jakarta Globe
May 5, 2024
Jakarta. A prominent leader
of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has reiterated the prohibition against
Muslims marrying people of different faiths.
Muhammad Cholil Nafis, head
of the MUI’s Islamic Teachings and Brotherhood Division, said Islam strictly
prohibits its adherents from marrying non-Muslims, although there exist varying
interpretations regarding Muslim men marrying women of different faiths.
In a statement recently
shared on the social media platform X, Nafis addressed reports of a celebrity
marriage between RizkyFebian, a Muslim, and his girlfriend Mahalini, who was
born into Hinduism, a religion followed by the majority of Balinese natives.
"Muslim scholars have
reached a consensus that a Muslim woman is forbidden from marrying a non-Muslim
man, while opinions differ regarding the marriage of a Muslim man to a
non-Muslim woman -- some consider it permissible, while others disagree,"
Cholil explained.
However, regardless of these
differences, leaders and clerics from the MUI, Nahdlatul Ulama, and
Muhammadiyah have unanimously agreed that either case of marriage is
incompatible with Islamic principles, he added.
Rizky and Mahalini have
publicly disclosed their romantic relationship since early 2022. Their
engagement took place on May 7 last year, and the official wedding ceremony in
Jakarta on Tuesday will mark their anniversary.
For years, human rights
activists and academics have criticized the government for the absence of
legislation on interfaith marriage.
Under current state law, a
marriage is recognized only if conducted in accordance with religious laws and
teachings. This means that couples of different religions cannot marry each
other unless one party converts to the religion of their future spouse.

Hearing Into British Army’s Afghanistan
‘War Crime’ Likely Delayed By One Year: Guardian

By Fidel Rahmati
May 4, 2024
The Guardian, a British
newspaper says that the handling of the “war crimes” case involving the British
Army in Afghanistan might be delayed until 2025.
The Guardian, relying on a
written statement from legal counsel, reports severe complaints from
prosecutors regarding the Ministry of Defence’s failure to provide relevant
documents.
Lawyer Pierce Daggart, in a
letter, condemns the current situation as the Ministry of Defence’s utmost
failure in fulfilling its responsibilities.
The Guardian highlights that
even with additional legal assistants and specialized software, document
submission might extend until October or November, delaying hearings on the
suspicious killings of 80 Afghans until March 2025.
The case of Afghan civilian
killings by British Special Forces stands as one of the most significant war
crime cases in Afghanistan, spanning from 2010 to 2013.
The government reveals that
around 80 individuals were involved in this case, with 10 additional lawyers
recently added to expedite the investigations.

Sadiq Khan’s Win ‘Bucks
Trend’ Of Muslim Voters Rejecting Labour Over Gaza, Say Party Figures

Khan

------
5 May 2024
Sadiq Khan’s election
victory as London mayor has “bucked the trend” of Muslim voters turning away
from Labour over the party’s stance on the war in Gaza, party figures said.
The 53-year-old won a third
term as the capital’s mayor on Saturday, without seeming to have lost the
support of large numbers of Muslim voters – unlike Labour candidates elsewhere
in England last week.
But Labour candidates
elsewhere in England last week saw a significant loss of Muslim voters. Richard
Parker became West Midlands mayor after a knife-edge contest with Andy Street,
but it would have been much easier for the Labour man had substantial numbers
of voters not backed an independent candidate whose campaign focused on Gaza.
AkhmedYakoob, a criminal
defence lawyer, came third with 42,923 votes in Birmingham alone, where Parker
saw a major decline on Labour’s 2021 vote.
“We faced a campaign of
nonstop negativity, but I couldn’t be more proud that we answered
fear-mongering with facts, hate with hope and attempts to divide with efforts
to unite,” Khan said in his victory speech.
He also thanked his family
and told them: “Some of the stuff on social media, the protests at my home, the
threats – it’s upsetting, it’s frightening and it’s wrong. I’m truly sorry for
putting you through this.”
Labour supporters had been
concerned that the mayor might suffer a Gaza backlash, opposition in outer
London to the ultra-low emission zone (Ulez), and a switch from proportional
representation to first-past-the-post, even though a YouGov poll last week put
Khan on 47%, well ahead of Susan Hall, on 25%.
After the votes were
counted, Ulez appeared to have had little effect, but the mayor did well in the
two constituencies with higher numbers of Muslim voters.
In North East, which
includes Waltham Forest, Khan got 127,455 votes compared with 111,359 first
preferences in 2021, while in City and East, which includes Newham and Tower
Hamlets, the turnout fell by 30,000, but Khan had nearly 10,000 more votes than
first preferences in 2021.
The emphatic win ran counter
to reporting by the BBC and other media outlets, who had claimed the race was
close. Torsten Bell, chief executive of the Resolution Foundation thinktank,
wrote on X on Saturday: “1pm BBC news still reporting ‘evidence that London
closer than expected’ despite literally zero evidence – now or at any point
over the last 24hrs.” “Should have been a VERY high evidence bar for thinking
this was close,” he added.
Khan was among the earliest
Labour figures to call for a ceasefire in Gaza, in contrast to the Labour
leader, who was hit by several defections and resignations after he said last
October that Israel had “the right” to withhold power and water from Gaza.
There was a furious reaction
from those on the left, which has continued to simmer. At the most recent
Palestine Solidarity Campaign march in London last month, the most obvious
political placards were demonic cut-outs of Starmer and deputy leader Angela
Rayner, dubbed Starmer for Genocide and Angela of Death.
Ali Milani, the national
chair of the Labour Muslim Network and a former Labour councillor who stood
against Boris Johnson in Uxbridge in 2021, said that many Muslim voters had
felt betrayed by Labour’s stance on Gaza.
“This is something I’ve been
warning about for months and it’s no longer polls and speculation – it’s
real-life votes,” he said. “Whether it’s Oldham or Bolton, Birmingham or
Elswick in Newcastle, there’s no question now there’s a serious problem.
“Sadiq is bucking the trend
and there’s a reason for that. He was very early in calling for a ceasefire. He
is now supporting a suspension of arms sales, as long as it’s clear that
international law has been breached. So he did what we should have done and
reaped the electoral rewards for that.
“Unfortunately, and it pains
me to say it, Muslims don’t think that the Labour party broadly values
Palestinian and Muslim lives as equal to others. And nothing encapsulates that
better than the message we’ve been sent around the country in other seats and
constituencies and mayoralties.”
At last week’s polls, this
translated into a 17.9% drop in the Labour vote in areas where more than a
fifth of people identified as Muslim, according to Professor Will Jennings of
Southampton University.
Although Labour gained
control of eight councils, it lost seats and lost control of Oldham council in
Greater Manchester. It failed to regain Oxford, lost ground in Blackburn with
Darwen and Bradford, while the Workers Party of Britain, founded by George
Galloway, unseated Manchester council’s deputy leader Luthfur Rahman.
A Momentum spokesperson said
the defeats should be “a wake-up call for the Labour leadership” and said
Starmer should call for a suspension of arms sales to Israel. It said: “Any
party which takes its core vote for granted risks disaster sooner or later.
When the going gets tough, Labour will need to rally its base – but from
climate to Gaza, Keir Starmer couldn’t seem less interested.”
Sunder Katwala, director of
British Future, said there had been a bigger impact on Labour’s vote during the
local elections than had been showing up in national polling, but there might
not be much effect on its chances in a general election.
“Labour’s general election
plan is going very well, according to these local election results, because
it’s advancing in lots of places where Labour isn’t strong,” he said.
However, since council wards
were a fraction of the size of constituencies, they could be more easily
dominated by particular groups than parliamentary constituencies. “There are a
few hundred council seats where the Muslim voter group is the majority of a
council ward. But that’s true of only three Westminster constituencies,” he
said.
Katwala added that Palestine
was unusually prominent compared with other foreign policy issues among voters’
concerns, but that there was no single bloc of Muslim voters. “People
exaggerate the number of Muslim voters and the way they vote in a bloc,” he
said. “These results look quite like the post-Iraq impact of 2005. It was not
that Muslims were voting as a bloc, but that Muslim votes were breaking up much
more than ever before.”

After Karnataka BJP posts
video targeting Muslims, Congress files ECI complaint: ‘wantonly provoke
rioting and promote enmity’
May 5, 2024
Days ahead of the second
phase of voting in Karnataka in the Lok Sabha elections on May 7, the state
unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) posted an animated video on a social
media platform targeting Muslims and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Chief
Minister Siddaramaiah.
Karnataka Congress on Sunday
filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) in connection
with the video, which was posted by the BJP on X on May 4.
The 17-second clip,
captioned “Beware.. Beware.. Beware..!” in Kannada, shows Rahul Gandhi and
Siddaramaiah placing a large egg labelled ‘Muslims’ in a nest along with ‘SC’,
‘ST’ and ‘OBC’ eggs. After an explosion sound, a large hatchling with a skull
cup and beard is shown staring at the three other hatchlings. The video then
shows Gandhi feeding all the ‘funds’ to the large hatchling, which grows bigger
and pushes out the other three from the nest.

Uddhav’s Sena gains strong
Muslim support
BY RADHESHYAM JADHAV
May 05, 2024
DharashivAs Shiv Sena chief
Uddhav Thackeray took the stage at a massive rally in the city recently renamed
Dharashiv, formerly known as Osmanabad, a striking and unprecedented scene
unfolded.
The rally on Saturday saw a
remarkable shift in its audience demographics. Amidst the sea of attendees, a
significant number of Muslims proudly waved the flaming torch—the election
symbol of Uddhav Thackeray’s party. Draped in saffron gamchas around their
necks, they cheered passionately, marking a dramatic departure from the typical
composition of Shiv Sena gatherings. The energy was electric, the air thick
with the promise of new alliances, as Uddhav Thackeray’s voice resonated
through the crowd, bridging divides with his words.
“They (BJP) instigate
Hindu-Muslim riots as elections draw near. Muslim brothers come to me saying
that I am their last hope. I tell them about my avowed Hindutva ideology. They
find my version of Hindutva acceptable. My Hindutva is about lighting the
chulha in every home, unlike the BJP’s, which is about setting homes ablaze in
riots,” he stated, drawing cheers from the crowd.

Muslim cleric arrested in
Surat for plot to kill right-wing leader, had handlers in Pak, Nepal
May 5, 2024
A 27-year-old man was
arrested in Surat on Friday over an alleged plot to kill the leader of a
right-wing organisation. Identified as Maulvi AbubakrTimol, the accused was
also part of a conspiracy — along with his handlers from Pakistan and Nepal —
to threaten the chief editor of Sudarshan television channel, BJP’s Telangana
MLA Raja Singh and the party’s former spokesperson Nupur Sharma, said police.
The Muslim cleric allegedly
plotted to kill Sanatan Sangh national chairman Updesh Rana. He has been
accused of making over 15 calls to Rana and had threatened to kill him like
Kamlesh Tiwari, Uttar Pradesh-based president of Hindu Samaj Party, who was
murdered in 2019 in Lucknow. His handlers in Nepal and Pakistan had assured to
pay him Rs. 1 crore “if he eliminated Rana”, said a police officer of the Surat
Crime Branch.
Chat records showed Timol
wanted to kill Rana soon in order to disturb communal harmony during the
ongoing general elections, officials said, adding that Surat Police were taking
the help of other agencies to find out if they had more targets in mind.
Sudarshan channel’s chief
editor Suresh Chauhan, BJP’s former national spokesperson Nupur Sharma and
BJP’s Telangana MLA Raja Singh were among other people who the accused planned
to target by sending threats, officials added.

05 May 2024
KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 —
Malaysia has urged unity and action among Muslim countries to address key
issues that are affecting the Ummah worldwide.
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri
Mohamad Hasan, in delivering the country’s statement at the 15th Islamic

illegal occupation, and had called for immediate action to address the
escalating tensions in the Middle East.
“While we appreciate the
maximum restraint by all parties concerned, the Organisation of Islamic

root cause of the problem, that is, Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine

Proposal for each leader to
look after a village to be tabled at Cabinet meeting, says PM Anwar
05 May 2024
BUKIT MERTAJAM, May 5 —
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has suggested that every leader in the
country, including the prime minister, be responsible for looking after a
village to have first-hand knowledge of the problems faced by these villages.
Speaking at the ‘Kenduri
Rakyat AidilfitriPerpaduan’ at GaleriPejuangCherokTok Kun in Bukit Mertajam
today, he said that the proposal would involve the Cabinet Ministers, top
government leaders and government-related companies.
“It will start in CherokTok
Kun. (I) Anwar Ibrahim will take care of CherokTok Kun in Bukit Mertajam. How I
will do it... I will call all the community representatives in the village and
they must tell me all the problems they face here.
“(For example, let me know)
about the jobless, marginalised, hardcore poor, whose houses are dilapidated,
then (about) drug problems, crime issues, need for TVET (Technical and
Vocational Education and Training) and all that the villagers discuss and tell
them directly to the one who is responsible,” he said.
Anwar described the proposal
as the best way to resolve problems faced in the villages, in addition to
district and government officers continuing to carry out their duties.
He is confident that the
proposal, which will be tried out for the first time, would facilitate the
streamlining of allocation given by the Federal Government, with the
cooperation of village heads or representatives.

04/May/2024
BEIJING May 04. 2024 (Saba)
- Chinese President Xi Jinping announced on Saturday his country's readiness to
enhance cooperation with Islamic countries.
Xi wrote in a speech to the
15th Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the text of which was

The glories of China’s
oldest mosque, Guangzhou’s Huaisheng Mosque, and its doubtful origin story
5 May, 2024
A Hong Kong friend recently
asked me about Islam, and if the Chinese names for Islam, Hui Jiao and Yisilan
Jiao in Mandarin, meant different things. I’m not an expert on Islam, but I
know what the Five Pillars of Islam are, and that halal food isn’t simply “pork
free”.
I told him that Hui Jiao
literally meant “the religion of the Hui people”, the largest Muslim community
in China with 11.4 million people. It’s an old name but it excludes the other
adherents of Islam within the Chinese nation today, such as the Kazakh, Tajik,
Uygur, Uzbek, and several other peoples, not to mention the rest of the 1.9
billion Muslims around the world.

Georgian protesters against
'Russia-style' media law mark Orthodox Easter with candlelight vigil
May 5, 2024
TBILISI: Several thousand
Georgians marked Orthodox Easter with a candlelight vigil outside Parliament on
Saturday evening as daily protests continue against a proposed law that critics
see as a threat to media freedom and the country's aspirations to join the
European Union.
The proposed bill would
require media, non-governmental organizations and other nonprofits to register
as "pursuing the interests of a foreign power" if they receive more
than 20% of their funding from abroad.
Protesters and the Georgian
opposition denounce it as "the Russian law," saying Moscow uses
similar legislation to stigmatize independent journalists and those critical of
the Kremlin.
Demonstrators crowded along
a broad avenue in Tbilisi late Saturday, clutching Georgian and EU flags, as a
small choir sang Easter songs and activists bustled about distributing food,
including hand-painted eggs and traditional Easter cakes.

After US, university
protests spread worldwide in solidarity with Palestine
May 5, 2024
NEW DELHI: Student protests
against the Israeli military assault on Gaza have spread to several countries
following the unprecedented October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel, according to
an AFP report.
Student activists have
organized protests at various universities, setting up temporary encampments on
campus grounds. The protesters are calling for their schools to sever
connections with universities in Israel and businesses that financially benefit
from the ongoing conflict.
The students have expressed
their views through these demonstrations, insisting that their educational
institutions should not maintain relationships with entities linked to the
Israeli-Palestinian dispute. They argue that such ties are inappropriate and
that universities should take a stand against the conflict by disassociating
themselves from organizations that profit from it.
Across the nation,
approximately 2,000 individuals have been arrested during demonstrations that
evoke memories of the Vietnam War era, according to US media reports. Law
enforcement has aggressively disbanded numerous student sit-ins at various
institutions, such as New York University and the University of California, Los
Angeles. President Joe Biden finally addressed the demonstrations breaking the
period of silence amid election season, asserting that "order must
prevail".
In the past few days, law
enforcement has taken action to break up numerous student sit-ins by force,
such as the one at New York University, which was done at the behest of the university's
administration.

'Canada is a rule-of-law

May 5, 2024
NEW DELHI: Canadian PM
Justin Trudeau said on Saturday that Canada is a "rule-of-law
country" following the arrest of three Indian nationals in a case linked
to killing of pro-Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a designated a
terrorist by India.
"This is important
because Canada is a rule-of-law country with a strong and independent justice
system, as well as a fundamental commitment to protecting all its
citizens," Trudeau said.
"As the RCMP stated,
the investigation remains ongoing, as does a separate and distinct
investigation not limited to the involvement of the three people arrested
yesterday," Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) quoted Trudeau as
saying.
Speaking at an event
celebrating Sikh heritage and culture, Trudeau said, "Every Canadian has
the fundamental right to live safely and free from discrimination and threats
of violence in Canada."
Following Trudeau's charges
in September last year of the "potential" participation of Indian
agents in the killing of Khalistan leader Nijjar, relations between India and
Canada came under strain.

SC judge seeks early hearing
of civilians’ military trial cases
Nasir Iqbal
May 5, 2024
ISLAMABAD: Justice Shahid
Waheed, a senior judge of the Supreme Court, has highlighted the need for early
hearing of the military court cases since the issues highlighted in the case
involve lives and liberties of citizens.
“All these cases be set down
for hearing as soon as possible because the questions involved therein concern
the lives and liberties of citizens,” Justice Waheed wrote in his additional
note which was part of the five-page SC order released on Saturday.
The order pertains to the
April 24 hearing of a set of Intra-Court Appeals (ICA) against the Oct 23
unanimous ruling of declaring as illegal the military trials of civilians.
A six-judge bench, headed by

PTI opposes change in
judges’ tenure, calls it ‘person-specific’
Ikram Junaidi
May 5, 2024
ISLAMABAD: The PTI has said
it will oppose any amendment to the Constitution that would modify the tenure
of judges, calling such changes “person-specific” to benefit the incumbent
chief justice.
In a statement, a PTI
spokesperson accused CJP Qazi Faez Isa of being the “main facilitator” in the
scheme of “snatching” the party’s electoral symbol and “stealing its public
mandate”.
Any such constitutional
amendment would be “resisted tooth and nail”, the statement said, and called
the changes “nothing but a bribe” for the incumbent CJP.
While there was no clarity
yet on the issue, media reports have claimed that the government was mulling
changes to the Constitution to fix the tenure of the chief justice.
Currently, judges of the
Supreme Court, including the chief justice, retire after attaining the age of
superannuation, i.e. 65 years, as stipulated in Article 179 of the
Constitution.
While giving his opinion on
the reports of constitutional amendment the other day, Law Minister Azam Nazeer
Tarar said he “will not vehemently turn down the proposals related to the tenure
of the chief justice”.
The PTI spokesperson said
the “planned” constitutional amendment was the current government’s “reward”
to CJP Isa for his alleged role in the cases faced by PTI leaders and the
party. “The behaviour of [Chief Justice] Isa during the entire period of his
tenure as chief justice was very regrettable and reprehensible with respect to
the supremacy of the Constitution and upholding the rule of law.”

JI may not give blanket
support to opposition drive
Ahmad Fraz Khan
May 5, 2024
LAHORE: A delegation of
Tehreek-i-Tahafuz-i-Aien (movement for protection of constitution), led by its
president Mahmood Khan Achakzai, on Saturday met newly-elected Jamaat-i-Islami
emir Naeemur Rehman and won a “limited” support for the new movement.
According to some insiders,
Jamaat won’t join the movement nor give it blanket support. It will respond on
the basis of each issue, lending support to the opposition only where it thinks
it should and, above all, if the JI Shura allows.
“The current consensus
between JI and those who came to the JI headquarters here on Saturday revolves
around Form-45 rigging, nothing more,” explains a Jamaat leader.
“Since [Naeemur] Rehman has
taken up the issue more vociferously than even PTI, Jamaat’s old guards are
reluctant to follow this single-point agenda. However, the JI emir, being newly
elected, has some ‘honeymoon margin’ and Jamaat is following him. There may
soon be some reality check.
The JI, however, is all for
the protection of the constitution, but without turning it into an issue of any
other political bargain as some parties are trying to do,“ he explained.

Iranian hackers pose as

By Bill Toulas
May 4, 2024
The Iranian state-backed
threat actor tracked as APT42 is employing social engineering attacks,
including posing as journalists, to breach corporate networks and cloud
environments of Western and Middle Eastern targets.
APT42 was first documented
by Mandiant in September 2022, who reported that the threat actors were active
since 2015, having carried out at least 30 operations in 14 countries.
The espionage group, which
is believed to be affiliated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps

APT42 attacks rely on social

‘It’s Shocking’: Perth
Muslim Community Concerned About Islamophobia After Radicalised Teen Stabbing
By Rebecca Peppiatt
May 5, 2024
The Muslim community of
Perth has condemned the actions of a 16-year-old boy who is thought to have
converted to Islam and become radicalised before he stabbed a member of the
public in Willeton on Saturday night and was later shot dead by police.
Imam of Perth’s largest
mosque, the Nasir Mosque, Imam Syed Wadood Janud, told media on Sunday the
incident was particularly upsetting as they had lost a member of their mosque
in the Bondi stabbing incident three weeks ago.
“Sometimes the backlash can
be very harsh, and that’s why we want to reach out to the wider community. Our
mosques and doors are always open. Reach out to talk to us communicate and
communicate your concerns, and we were more than happy to hear any concerns that
the community would have.
