Chief Justice of Pakistan to Celebrate Diwali at Teri
Temple In Karak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa To Express Solidarity With The Hindu
Community
Representational Phot/
Sanbad English
----
Staff Reporter
November 7, 2021
ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar
Ahmad will celebrate the Diwali festival at Teri Temple, Karak, Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa, on Monday, to express solidarity with the local members of the
Hindu community as well pilgrims reaching there from other parts of the
country.
The grand function to celebrate Diwali is being
organised by the Pakistan Hindu Council, which invited the chief justice and
other dignitaries to take part in the celebrations.
PHC patron-in-chief and member of the National
Assembly Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani said presence of senior officials during the
celebration would give a strong message to the miscreants that their nefarious
designs would be foiled by the state.
To provide facilities to those arriving from Sindh and
Balochistan to participate in the annual fair at Teri, the Hindu council has
also requested the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) to provide boarding and
lodging facilities to around 1,500 pilgrims at Hassanabdal.
The pilgrims have already started arriving at Hassanabdal,
from where they will proceed to the Teri area of Karak on Monday and return the
same day.
The shrine is associated to a saint, Shri Param Hans
Ji Maharaj, in Karak district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where a temple was
established in 1920. However, it was vandalised by a mob led by a local cleric
belonging to the Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl last year.
Later on the orders of the Chief Justice of Pakistan,
not only the temple/shrine was restored to its original condition by the Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa government, but the apex court also ordered the KP government in
October 2021 to recover Rs33 million from the culprits involved in vandalising
and destruction of the century-old Samadhi.
On Dec 30, 2020, more than 1,000 people led by some
local clerics belonging to the JUI-F instigated the villagers to demolish the
temple as a result people led by local seminary students attacked the temple.
Subsequently, the Supreme Court took suo motu notice
of the incident and during the proceedings the court was informed by then KP
police chief Sanaullah Abbasi that a local leader of the JUI-F, Maulana
Faizullah, had organised the protest near the shrine but of the six religious
leaders present at the protest site, only Maulvi Sharif had incited the crowd
to desecrate the temple.
Earlier in 1997, the Samadhi was first attacked and
severely damaged, and the PHC head Dr Vankwani had approached the apex court in
2015 seeking help to restore the holy place and restart the annual pilgrimage
to the place.
“At that time, local clerics were creating hurdles to
holding of religious congregation for the Hindus, while the followers of Shri
Paramhans Ji tried to build the temple at the place but it was not allowed,” Dr
Vankwani had told Dawn.
The SC had issued directives to the provincial government
to restore and preserve the Teri temple at that time, too. Finally, Pakistan
Hindu Council started holding the annual fair in 2015.
Since the temple/shrine was being managed by the local
Hindu families, it comes administratively under the KP government and not under
the ETPB control.

President Of The UAE Introduces A Law To Regulate
Personal Status For Non-Muslims In The Emirate of Abu Dhabi

by Ismail Sebugwaawo
Sun 7 Nov 2021
His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan,
President of the UAE in his capacity as ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi on
Sunday issued a law to regulate personal status for non-Muslims in the Emirate
of Abu Dhabi.
The aim is to provide a flexible and advanced judicial
mechanism for the determination of personal status disputes for non-Muslims.
The move will further enhance the Emirate's position
and global competitiveness as one of the most attractive destinations for
talent and skills.
The law also intends to confirm Abu Dhabi’s leadership
by issuing the first civil law governing non-Muslim family matters in line with
international best practices. This guarantees the right of non-Muslims to be
subject to an internationally acknowledged law that is familiar to them in
terms of culture, customs and language, as well as to achieve and protect the
best interests of children, particularly in the case of parental separation.
Youssef Saeed Al Abri, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi
Judicial Department (ADJD), noted that the new legislation is the first of its
kind in the world as it deals with the smallest details regarding non-Muslim
family life.
He added that the Judicial Department has been working
according to the direction of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime
Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Judicial
Department, in order to provide solutions to non-Muslims’ personal status
issues that are brought before the courts.
The law was thoroughly studied and analysed to come up
with a legislative solution that provide a modern judicial framework for
foreigners residing in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to resolve family disputes in
line with international best practices.
The official also announced that the AD Judicial
Department has established the first court dedicated to non-Muslim family
matters.
All the procedures of the new court will be bilingual
in Arabic and English in order to facilitate the understanding of judicial
procedures by foreigners and to improve judicial transparency.
The new law consists of 20 articles divided into
several chapters covering civil marriage, divorce, joint custody of children
and inheritance.
The first chapter of the law regulates the marriage
procedures of foreigners before the court by introducing the concept of civil
marriage based on the will of both the husband and wife.
The second chapter defines the divorce procedures for
non-Muslims, the rights of the spouses after divorce and the discretion of the
judge in assessing the financial rights of the wife based on several criteria,
such as the number of years of marriage, the age of the wife, the economic
standing of each of the spouses and other considerations that the judge takes
into account in determining the wife's financial rights.
The third chapter introduces a new concept in
post-divorce child custody, namely, the sharing of custody equally between the
father and mother, or what is known in in some Western countries as joint or
shared custody, in order to safeguard the cohesion of the family after divorce
and to preserve the psychological health of the children.
The fourth chapter addresses inheritance issues, the
registration of wills for non-Muslims, and the right of a foreigner to draw up
a will devolving all his/her property to whomever he/she wishes.
The fifth chapter of the law regulates the proof of
paternity for non-Muslim foreigners, providing that the proof of paternity of
the newborn child is based on marriage or recognition of paternity.

25 Daesh affiliates surrendered to the Islamic Emirate
through the mediation of tribal elders in the eastern province of Nangarhar,
provincial officials said on Saturday.
The head of the Nangarhar intelligence department, Dr.
Basheer, said that these Daesh fighters were active in various parts of the
province.
The surrendered Daesh fighters were granted amnesty by
the order of Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, the supreme leader of the Islamic
Emirate.
“Today 25 members of Daesh surrendered to the Islamic
Emirate,” Dr. Basheer said. “In total 250 Daesh affiliates surrendered to the
Islamic Emirate in over the past two months. They have been pardoned and they
don’t fight against us anymore. If they act against their commitments, they
will be punished.”
“We took an oath from the surrendered Daesh members that
they will not carry out destructive actions. If they try to bother the people
and create insecurity or fight against the Islamic Emirate, their houses will
be set on fire and they will be kicked out of the country,” said Nasir Momand,
a tribal elder.
“We were previously carrying out actions against the
Taliban but now the Islamic Emirate give us amnesty and we came and surrendered
to them. We regret our actions that we performed in the past,” said Ziauddin, a
surrendered member of Daesh.
Daesh has claimed responsibility for several attacks
in Nangarhar. However, the Islamic Emirate downplays the threat of Daesh in
Afghanistan.

Singapore Can Be A Case Study For Racial And Religious
Harmony For Muslim Minority Communities: Minister-In-Charge Of Muslim Affairs
In Singapore, Muslims make
up about 15.6 per cent of the population.PHOTO: ST FILE
-----
Hariz Baharudin
NOV 6, 2021
SINGAPORE - Singapore can be a case study for racial
and religious harmony given that it is one of the world's most religiously
diverse societies, and its citizens have all pledged to be one united people,
said Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Masagos Zulkifli.
He made this point on Saturday (Nov 6) as he
emphasised the need to develop a body of knowledge - amid chaotic developments
round the world - for Muslim minority communities within multicultural and
secular societies.
Mr Masagos, who is also Minister for Social and Family
Development, was speaking at a virtual seminar on Muslim communities that was
attended by Singaporeans and foreigners. It was organised by the Islamic
Religious Council of Singapore.
Many Muslim minority communities live in open, modern
and diverse societies in secular states, noted Mr Masagos. In Singapore,
Muslims make up about 15.6 per cent of the population.
Emerging uncertainties and challenges of the
contemporary world usually impact these Muslim communities first, and often,
there is no precedence in Islamic history and traditions to guide them, said Mr
Masagos.
"Their experience will be distinctly different
from societies where Muslims are the majority. These Muslim minority
communities must have the ability to contribute to nation-building while being
able to live out their faith, like Muslims do in Singapore," he said.
Singapore's Constitution forms the foundation for its
social compact, and Mr Masagos sketched out three pillars that allow the
country to enjoy peace and stability.
First, there is justice and equality, and this
guarantees that the Government will be impartial to all, enabling people
through the building of strong families and creating a society of opportunities
through affordable and quality education, housing and healthcare.
The second pillar is self-reliance, where individuals
have a duty to take care of themselves. "This helps to engender trust
between individuals in society because 'from each his best' and 'to each his
due' would be for the common good," said Mr Masagos.
Third, Singapore is a cohesive and harmonious society,
where it is important to engender trust between majority and minority
communities by building respect, care and concern for fellow citizens.
But while the country has been fortunate to have
racial and religious harmony over the years, this is neither a given nor
permanent, and Mr Masagos called on all groups in society to continue working
to uphold this.
Under the Maintenance of Religious Harmony Act, those
who cause ill-will between different religious groups can be issued with a
restraining order.
During his National Day Rally speech in August, Prime
Minister Lee Hsien Loong said while the law has never been used since it came
into effect in 1992, its existence has helped to restrain intolerance and
promote religious harmony.
PM Lee also said during the speech that Singapore
would be introducing a new law on racial harmony to encourage moderation and
tolerance between different racial groups.
Mr Masagos on Saturday acknowledged that in the past,
Singapore’s focus was directed internally, and was more on how its people can
accommodate one another and not overly push for their own rights - but added
that today's environment is different.
In societies, youth, in particular, are more exposed
to information shared on social media, which challenges the transmission of
values and widens fractures in societies.
Singapore experienced its first case of right-wing
extremism, when a 16-year-old Singaporean boy was detained last December after
planning to attack Muslims in mosques. He was inspired by terrorist attacks
overseas that he had observed online.
Mr Masagos gave the examples of the Black Lives Matter
movement and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as issues that he said have
shaped views and could affect relations with others within a multi-ethnic and
multi-religious community.
"If we do not address this early, and
effectively, it will slowly and silently erode the trust built over many
generations," he added.
"This is why religious harmony and social
cohesion must be continuously strengthened and never taken for granted."

KARACHI: A crisis has developed for the Sindh

Since the end of the Cold War, the number of nuclear

the latest estimates, but given the fact that the explosive and qualitative
power of new nuclear weapons is thousands of times greater than that of old

Under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear

JK Randle on Harmony Between Yoruba Christians and
Muslims
November 7, 2021
After the collapse of the 21-storey Ikoyi building on
Monday 1 November 2021, Dr. Farooq Perogi, a US-based academic, wrote an
article that has somewhat set the Internet on fire. He chose an isolated case
of a man who claimed he was not offered a job on the site because of his Muslim
faith to conclude that Yoruba Christians discriminate against the Muslims of
the same ethnic stock.
In the article below which shows the harmony between
Christians and Muslims in Yorubaland, Bashorun J.K Randle, a Christian, served
as executor of his late Muslim aunt’s will to hand over her house to Lagos
Central mosque. He seized the opportunity of the ceremony to praise religious
tolerance in Lagos/Yorubaland.
