Truth is
the only fact that is accepted but after much scrutiny. Truth cannot be
defeated. It can be overruled but only till such time that it comes out in the
open. Truth paves its way because ' Truth is God'. One holy name of Allah the
Most Gracious in His one hundred names is ‘Al-Haq’. It means 'the
Truth'. Allah, the Almighty says in the Holy Quran: "God is the Truth
(the Real)" (Qur'an 22:6).
After going through this Ayat one has to accept with all humility that
'truth prevails’ in every situation, whatsoever. Allah, the All-Knower created
the earth and the skies as a sign of truth. All the signs on the earth and the
skies praise the truthfulness of Allah, the Ultimate Reality as He says in the
Holy Quran:
“Say:
‘Praise be to God. He will show you His Signs and you will recognize them.” (Qur’an, 27:93)
Nothing is
hidden to Allah, He is the All-Knower, He knew everyone will not be able to
understand His signs except those who are men of intellect, therefore, He says:
‘...and so that people of reason may be mindful.’ (Surah Ibrahim: 52).
Everything
that Allah the Most Gracious has created for the betterment of human beings is
in front of our eyes. We are witness to the truthfulness, the beauty and the
usefulness of all that is in the world in the form of God’s mercies upon us.
There are
numerous Ayat that describe, truth, truthful and truthfulness. As the Ayat “O
you who believe! Have fear of God, and
be among the truthful.” (Quran 9:119) addresses the faithful as the
‘truthful’. It means one who is not on the side of truth is not a true servant
of Allah. Everything that is between the
heavens and the earth that is the skies, the moon, the sun, the stars, the
oceans, the mountains, the human being, the animals, the birds and the
beautiful environment is nothing but the truth. Allah the Most Gracious
describes this in the Holy Quran in this Ayat, ‘"We created not the
heavens and the earth and what is between them but through the Truth (the Real
- Haqq)’ (Qur'an 15:85)
The human
being is among the most favoured creations that Allah has created. He has
bestowed upon him all the positivities that a man of ‘truth’ requires. With
this trait of ‘truthfulness, each one of us is related to each other with
‘truth’. This fact has been described in the Holy Quran in this Ayat, ‘And
He has placed within each creature's essence a truth and a nature which can
connect it with other truths.’ (Qur'an 20:50)
The Quranic
verses being given below are enough to brighten our path of righteousness that
takes us to the ultimate truth, Allah, the Saviour of Humankind:
"And
he who brings the truth and (he who) accepts it as the truth...." (Qur'an 39:33)
"And
with truth have We revealed it, and with truth did it come...." (Qur'an 17:105)
"We cast the truth against the falsehood,
so that it demolishes it, and lo! it vanishes away...." (Qur'an 21:18)

(Allah) said: The Truth is, and the truth I speak…” — 38: 84
“…surely
Allah’s promise is true” — 10:55

Allah’s promise, in truth. And who is more truthful in word than Allah?” — 4: 122

earth with truth. And when He says, Be, it is. His word is the truth.” — 6: 73

Holy
Prophet Muhammad Pbuh and His Lessons on Truth
“I order you to be truthful, for indeed
truthfulness leads to righteousness, and indeed righteousness leads to
Paradise. A man continues to be truthful
and strives for truthfulness until he is written as a truthful person with
God. And beware of falsehood, for indeed
falsehood leads to sinning, and indeed sinning leads to the Fire. A man continues to tell lies and strives upon
falsehood until he is written as a liar with God.” (Saheeh Muslim)
“Whoever does three things with regards to
people, they will necessitate three things from him: whenever he speaks to them
he is truthful; whenever they entrust him with something he does not betray
them; and whenever he promises them something he fulfils it. If he does this, their hearts will love him;
their tongues will praise him, and they will come to his aid.” (Ibn Muflih,
Adaab ash-Shari’a)
“The
gravest dishonesty is that you lie to your (Muslim) brother about something
while he believes that you are telling the truth.” (Reported from Sufyan Ibn
Asad Al-Hadhramiy in Abu Dawud)
Accepting
the Truth
Many of us are
living a life that is devoid of truth. The lies and the hypocrisies of the
world has engulfed our lives. We are either not being able to see that is
bright as daylight or we have lost our sense of truthfulness. Either way, it is
we, the common man who are the sufferers of the hell created by the lies of the
people among us. Accepting the truth is not difficult but for it, we will have
to light the lamp of our belief on the Holy Scriptures that we follow and
accept that what is written in it is the ultimate truth.
Our law of
the land also accepts what Matthew Arnold has said, ‘Truth sits upon the lips
of dying men’. We, the people of God have to create faith and accept the truth
before it is too late. And the ‘truth is that we, the people have to create a
pluralistic society that is governed by humility, pluralistic ethos and honesty
towards each other.
We cannot
deny that God, the Almighty has bestowed upon us all the knowledge, intellect
and wisdom that is needed for a beautiful life laced in peace and harmony.
Allah, the Most Gracious asks in the Holy Quran: ‘Then which of the favours
of your Lord will ye deny?’ - Surah Ar-Rahman: 47 and we have no answer as
there is none except that we have forgotten that there is One who knows and
sees everything and will judge us on the Day of Judgement with: “Say: Our
Lord will gather us together, then He will judge between us with truth.”
—34: 26
And
Allah Knows the Best.
