Inscribed
on the wall of my tiny pad are two well-nigh similar thoughts in Urdu and French,
“Hazaar Barq Gire Laakh
Aandhiyaan Utthein / Woh Phool Khil Ke Rahenge Jo Khilne Wale Hain “(Sahir
Ludhianvi)
And
“There’s nothing more powerful
than an idea whose time has come “(Victor Hugo).
Both the
thoughts have always inspired me and whenever I feel down in the dumps, I look
at them and the very next moment, my life bounces back.
Human
spirit is indomitable. It can be destroyed but cannot be defeated. Remember,
life is an idea in a fluid and amorphous state. The moment we construct and
concretise it, we realize its true potential.
My
Professor friend at Emory University in the US, mailed me that despite losing
one eye and hand, the irrepressible Salman Rushdie is determined to write yet
another book and continue to wage his crusade against fanaticism.
This is the
crux of existence: never to give up. When a Muslim fanatic stabbed me to kill
but ended up cutting the tip of my middle finger, I realized that my time
didn't come and whatever little is left, I must dedicate that to fighting
against fanaticism of not just Islam but of all man-made rogue and rustic
faiths.
During the First
World War, a promising cricketer lost one of his hands. Instead of crying over
that and sulking that he'd never be able to play cricket and be out of the game
forever, he decided to become an umpire and went on to become one of the
greatest and most upright cricket umpires in the history of the game. He was
the English umpire Frank Chester.
Man is
forever on test but every test carries a lesson in its womb because Nature
designs every seemingly dampening episode or incident as a litmus test to
assess an individual's gritty and dour approach to life.
A so-called
mishap is a coded message. We need to decode it to realize that it's actually a
manna from heaven; a gift from the Universe. So, what's destined to happen will
happen sooner or later. And it'll happen for a reason and purpose because
Nothing is wasted, nothing is in vain/ The seas roll over but the rocks remain.
