“Soon will We show them our Signs in the [furthest] regions [of the earth], and in their own souls, until it becomes manifest to them that this is the Truth. Is it not enough that thy Lord doth witness all things?” The Quran Ch 41- V 53
The Glorious Quran is the last and final revelation which was revealed to the last and final Messenger Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). For any book to claim that it is a revelation from God, it should stand the test of Time. Previously, it was the age of miracles; the Quran is a miracle of miracles. After that, came the age of literature and poetry. Muslims and non-Muslims alike say that the Quran is the best piece of Arabic literature present on the face of the earth. Today, it is the age of science and technology. Let us see whether the Quran can truly be considered a revelation.
Before diving into the subject let me remind the readers that the Quran is not a book of science, it is a book of signs. So by reading and understanding about the verses dealing with science one cannot become a scientist.
In the field of Astronomy:
The Astronomers describe how the universe came into being. They call it the Big Bang. Initially there was a primary nebula, which, with a big bang it got separated and gave rise to the galaxies, stars etc. The Quran says:
“Do not the unbelievers see? That the heavens and the earth were joined together and We clove them asunder” (21:30)
It is now a known fact that the universe is expanding; it was Edvin Hubbel who discovered this. The Quran says:
“We have built the heaven with might, and we have created the expanding universe-the vastness of space.”(51:47)
A few decades earlier it was assumed that the sun is stationary, but with the latest scientific discovery we have come to know that the sun takes approximately 25 days to complete one rotation.
“It is Allah who has created the night and the day, the sun and the moon. Each one travelling in an orbit with its own motion.”(21:33)
In the field of water cycle:
“The capacity of the heavens to return” (it means rain, but Allah does not specifically mention “rain” because besides returning back rain, waves of telecommunication, of television, of radio are also returned) (86:11)
“Seest thou not that Allah makes the clouds move gently, then joins them together, then makes them into a heap?-then wilt thou see rain issue forth from their midst. And He sends down from the sky mountain masses (of clouds) wherein is hail. He strikes therewith whom He pleases and He turns it away from whom He pleases, the vivid flash of His lightning well-nigh blinds the sight.” (24:43)
In the field of Geology, the Geologists tell us that the radius of the Earth is around 3750 miles. The superficial part of the Earth’s crust is very thin. And there is a high possibility that this superficial layer will shake. It is due to the Folding phenomenon, which gives rise to mountain ranges, which gives stability to this Earth. And Quran says in Surah Nabaa, Ch. No. 78, Verse No. 6 and 7
“We have made the Earth as an expanse and the mountains as stakes”.
The Quran says in Surah Gashiya, Ch. 88, Verse No. 19, and Surah Naziat, Ch. No. 79, Verse No. 32 “And We have made the mountains standing firm on the Earth”.
The Geologists today do say that the mountains give stability to the Earth.
The Quran says in Surah Ambiya, Ch. No 21, Verse No. 31, in Surah Luqman, Ch. No. 31 Verse No.10, as well as in Surah Nahl, Ch. No. 16, Verse No. 15:
“We have made the mountains standing firm on the Earth, lest it would shake with them and with you”.
In the field of Oceanology, the Glorious Quran says, in Surah Furqan, Ch. No. 25, Verse No. 53, that “It is Allah who has let free two bodies of following water - One sweet and palatable, the other salt and bitter. Though they meet, they do not mix. Between them there is a barrier which is forbidden to be trespassed”.
Quran says in Surah Rahman, Ch. 55 Verse No. 19 and 20.
“It is Allah who has let free two bodies of flowing water. Though they meet, they do not mix. Between them there is barrier, which is forbidden to be trespassed”.
Whenever one type of water flows into the other type of water, it looses its constituents, and gets homogenized into the water it flows. There is a slanting homogenizing area, which the Quran refers to as “Barzak”- unseen barrier.
In the field of embryology, the Quran gives the embryological stages in a nutshell
“We have created the human beings from a ‘nutfa’- A minute quantity of liquid. Then placed it in ‘qararen makeen’ - a place of security. Then We made it into an ‘Alaqa’ - a leech like substance - something which clings - a congealed clot of blood. Then We made that ‘Alaqa’ into a ‘Mutga’ a ‘chewed like lump.’ Then We made the ‘Mutga’ into ‘Izama’-bones. Then clothed the bones with ‘leham’- flesh. Then We made it a new creature. Blessed be Allah Who is the best to create. (Surah Muminun Ch. 23, Verses No. 12 to 14)
“It is We Who have created you. Why, then, do you not accept the truth? Have you ever considered that (seed) which you emit? Is it you who create it? Or are We the Creator?”(The Qur'an, 56:57-59)
