Join Khilafat Movement (not ISIS), Turn Darul Kufr Into Darul Islam, Unite The Ummah (Global Muslim Community), Radical Islamist Hizbut Tahrir Tells Indian Muslims

Hizb-ut-Tahrir, the radical Islamic political organisation originated and based in Jerusalem having a worldwide network and proscribed in many western as well as Islamic countries seems to have established its base in the Indian subcontinent, in order to further radicalise Hindi speaking Indian Muslims. The content and messages posted in its Hindi language website, Khilafat Hindi, are clearly meant to inject the Jihadi venom into the Indian society. Since Hindi is the language spoken and understood by Muslims of a large part of India, the website seems to be targeting Muslims of the northern, central and eastern India. The articles posted in the website exhort the Muslims to join the movement for the establishment of caliphate that will unite the entire Muslim world. After the caliphate is established, the non-Muslim countries that are called Darul Kufr will also be turned into Darul Islam, according to their plan.

In one of the articles titled, Riyasat-e-Islami Kaise Qaim Hogi? (How can an Islamic state be established?), the author lays out the plan for the establishment of an Islamic state or Khilafat:

“Therefore, merely holding conferences or trying to unite the Muslim countries is not enough for the establishment of Khilafat nor holding Islamic conferences can implement the Islamic way of life. These efforts are useless because they satisfy the emotions of Muslims temporarily and produce in them the feeling that they have done something worthwhile while the real job is a distant dream.”

The main message of the articles in the website is that Muslims should do something ‘concrete’ to establish the Khilafat in the entire Muslim world by uniting them under one caliph. They should also work towards implementing Sharia in their lives.

In another article, Queries about the establishment of caliphate by ISIS, the Emir of Hizb-ut-Tahrir replies to the queries relating to the legitimacy of the caliphate of Abu Bakr Baghdadi. In the article, the Emir of Hizb-ut-Tahrir, Ata bin Khalil Abu Rushta declares the caliphate of ISIS un-Islamic. He says:

Dear brothers,

For any group that has to announce the establishment of Khilafat in any place, it is necessary to follow the methodology of the holy Prophet pbuh and according to the methodology or process, the group has to enjoy a clear authority so that it can establish inner and outer peace and security in the area where the caliphate is being established. It has to fulfill all the criteria that makes it a state.”

After elaborating on the subject with examples from the caliphate of Madina, the Emir thus gives his judgment on the caliphate of Abu Bakr Baghdadi in the following words:

“This announcement is only a play of words that neither enhances nor reduces the status of the group. In fact this group (ISIS) was an armed struggle before this announcement and even after this announcement it remains an armed struggle. The reality of this group is like that of those armed groups that are at loggerheads with each other or with governments whereas they do not have the power to gain authority in either Iraq or Syria or in both the countries.( I June 2014)

There is another article titled “Is Saudi Arabia a Darul Islam or Darul Kufr? The author has tried to prove that the government of Saudi Arabia is based on laws that are not extracted from Qur'anic injunctions but are manmade. The article also mentions the presence of international banks in Makkah and other cities of the country where business transactions involving interest (Riba) are allowed by the government. It also mentions the laws governing the Saudi Army which says that if an army officer steals anything belonging to a colleague he is liable to return the cost of the stolen thing or has to undergo only a three months imprisonment (whereas the punishment for stealing is hand amputation) but the punishment for revolt (Hirabah) is death sentence so that the government can kill those who protest against the system.

The most flagrant case of concocting of Hadiths to suit the political interests is the message of the Emir of Hizb-ut-Tahrir to the people and ‘sincere revolutionaries’ of Syria dated 24 January 2013. Before that it should be mentioned that Hizb-ut-Tahrir had supported the Ikhwan ul Muslimeen in Egypt both financially and morally to facilitate the formation of the Morsi government because they thought that Muslim Brotherhood would establish a Khilafat which was a common goal for both the organisations. In the message, the Emir narrates a concocted Hadith which runs thus:

“Reported by Imam Ahmad in his  Musnad and Al Tilyasi in his Musnad narrated by Huzaifa bin al Yaman, the Prophet pbuh said, “Nubuwwat (prophethood) will last amidst you as long as God wills it and then when God wills, He will revoke it. After that, Khilafat will follow on the ways of Nubuwwat (prophethood) and will last as long as God wills it, After that He will revoke it. After that, Khilafat of Morsi will follow. That too will last as long as God wills it, and God will revoke it too. Then the tyrant rule will follow and it will also last as long as God wills it. God will also revoke it. After that, Khilafat will be established on the ways of Nubuwwat. After saying this, the Prophet pbuh became silent.”

This Hadith is one example how Hadiths have been concocted by Emirs or religious scholars of Islam during different periods of Islam. The Hadith is presented with the aim to present Morsi to the Muslims of the world as a divine personality who had the blessings of God and the Prophet pbuh.

Hizb-ut-Tahrir is a radical organisation that was founded by an Islamic scholar Taqiuddin Nabhani in 1953 and has its branches in more than 40 countries. Though it does not proclaim its presence in India officially, the website indicates that it has its presence in India too. In the capital city of New Delhi, it made its presence felt when it organised a demonstration against Israel’s occupation of Gaza in 2010 that was attended mostly by students.

It has a strong presence in the UK, Australia, Indonesia and a large number of Islamic and Muslim majority countries. Though they have not been found involved in violent and terrorist activities, they are known for their radical views and interpretations of Islam.

Establishment of Khilafat in the Islamic world is their mission for which they have been running their campaign.  Though they claim they do not endorse violence in the name of Islam, analysts observe that their ideology is a natural precursor to violence. Hizb-ut-Tahrir uses the legal system of the countries to indoctrinate the young impressionable minds who later leave the organisation and join more violent organisations like Al Qaida. It is said that Al Qaida leaders Abu Musab al Zarqawi and Khalid Sheikh Muhammad were earlier associated with Hizb-ut-Tahrir.

Hizb—ut-Tahrir stresses the idea of Khilafat and declares it the duty of every Muslim to put their efforts for the establishment of Islamic Khilafat. But it does not specify the method or process through which the Khilafat can be established. So the indoctrinated member often feels the ideological void in Hizb-ut-Tahrir and to fulfill his ambitions of establishing the Khilafat, he joins more powerful and violent groups. This way Hizb-ut-Tahrir acts as a conveyor belt for terrorists.
