Man Who Shot UP School Video Narrates What Happened;
‘Villagers With Me’: Principal Tripta Tyagi
Screen Shot: Photo YouTube

By Poulomi Ghosh
Aug 27, 2023
Amid the controversy over the Neha Public School viral
video for which teacher Tripta Tyagi has been booked, BJP's Amit Malviya shared
the statement of the man who shot the video to further the narrative that the
controversy was manufactured and that there was no communal angle in the
incident. The man who shot the video of the Muslim kid being beaten up by his
classmates on the instruction of the teacher, Tripta Tyagi, said the beating
was because of studies. He said he went to the school for some work where his
cousin studies. “Madam was getting the child beaten. She said Muslim women go
to their parental house which their kids and so the kids miss their studies,”
the man said confirming that his video was made viral after some editing.
Booked under bailable sections, Tripta Tyagi, however,
said what she did was the right thing to do and the villagers supported her
action. "I am not ashamed. I have served the people of this village as a
teacher. They all are with me. They have made laws, but we need to control the
children in schools. This is how we tackle them," Tyagi said to NDTV in an
interview.
Earlier, the accused teacher said she was handicapped
and that's why she could not get up from her chair and slap the Muslim kid
herself. On top of her defence, she claimed the video was doctored as the part
where she was blaming the mothers of the Muslim kids for their deterioration in
the studies was edited out.
1. On Friday, the video of Tripta Tyagi asking
students to slap a Muslim kid went viral. In the video, she was heard
commenting offensively on Muslims as well.
2. The video sparked a major outrage with celebrities
condemning the communal action of the teacher. Opposition leaders including
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi spoke against the hatred.
3. The father of the Muslim kid said the incident took
place on Thursday. The teacher apologised and the family did not want to go to
the police.
4. As the viral video became a BJP versus opposition
tussle with AIMIM chief Owaisi asking Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi
Adityanath where his bulldozers were now, different versions of the incident
came to the fore.
5. The father of the Muslim kid said there was no
communal angle to the incident. The cousin who shot the video also confirmed
the same.
6. Tripta Tyagi who runs Neha Public School said it
was her mistake that she asked other kids to beat the Muslim kid, but there was
no communal intention.
7. The teacher said she was asked to be strict with
the kid by his parents as he was not performing well in his studies.
8. Tripta Tyagi claimed she could not slap the kid as
she is handicapped.
9. The Muslim kid was slapped by his classmates for
hours.
10. Tripta Tyagi was booked by the Muzaffarnagar
police under bailable sections which do not warrant arrest.

Muslims have participated in a protest organised by
Islamic organisations in the Dutch city of The Hague amid ongoing anti-Islam
incidents around Europe.
They had signs that read: "The Quran gives us
light to guide us, fire cannot burn the Sun" and "I love the
Quran" as demonstrators walked toward the Danish and Swedish embassies.
They shouted: "Stop burning our book and holy
books," and "Shame on the Danish and Swedish governments!"
Demonstrators also recited verses from the Quran.
SerdarIsik, a psychologist, read a statement in front

Slapping Incident: Hong Kong’s Chief Imam Tells
Religious Teachers ‘We Can’t Punish Students For Learning The Quran’
27 Aug, 2023
Seated cross-legged on the white-tiled floor of their
classroom, about 30 children aged eight to 15 rocked gently from side to side,
reciting verses in Arabic from the Quran, Islam’s holy book, at a religious
school in Hong Kong.
“They sing the words to remember them better. The
swaying helps them keep the rhythm,” said chief imam Mufti Muhammad Arshad,
leader of Hong Kong’s Muslim community of 300,000.
An Islamic religious school, or madrasa, was in the
spotlight after an incident on August 5 when a 13-year-old student was
allegedly slapped during a Quran reading class.
The boy had to undergo surgery for a detached retina.
The 35-year-old man who was subsequently arrested was a volunteer teacher at
the centre in Quarry Bay.
The incident sparked outrage, with senior Muslim
figures calling for more to be done to safeguard children and improve the
quality of teachers at the city’s Islamic religious centres.
Chief imam Arshad met all religious teachers, or
ustadhs, for a training session on Saturday to emphasise what to do and not do
during their classes.
“I will tell all ustadhs that beating is a form of
punishment and we cannot punish students for learning the Quran,” he told the
Post before the meeting.
Arshad oversees most Islamic places of worship in the
city, but the Quarry Bay madrasa is privately run and not under his
jurisdiction.
“We don’t appoint any teachers from abroad, we hire
Hong Kong residents from within the community,” he said, adding that all new
teachers had to clear an interview process and he checked their experience and
references.
He is also responsible for inspecting all madrasas
under his jurisdiction to ensure that they keep in line with the principles of
Islam, which forbids the use of corporal punishment.
Parents donate around HK$200 (US$26) to send their
children to religious classes. The Kowloon mosque had about 300 students and
the donations covered only about a fifth of the teachers’ salaries, according
to Arshad.
While many Muslim parents sent their children to
religious classes at mosques and madrasas, Ali said some preferred to teach
them themselves or go online for lessons with a teacher in Pakistan or other
places.
He said the madrasas provided Muslims with a sense of
community. “Some have board game clubs and organise outdoor activities during
the school holidays to support families,” he added.
Adeel Malik, founder of the Muslim Council of Hong
Kong, said madrasas were not only where members of the community learned Arabic
and Islam, but also where they interacted and made friends.
Responding to the incident, the council suggested ways
to keep children safe, including having a code of conduct signed by all
teachers and installing CCTV cameras in madrasas.
In a social media post, the council earlier said the
August 5 incident “was not an isolated incident” but also urged the public not
to view it as a religious one.
Lawmaker Doreen Kong Yuk-foon agreed that a code of
conduct would be beneficial for the religious teachers, including volunteers at
the madrasas, which do not fall under government supervision.
“There should be some standards, even if they are
volunteers, they must meet certain requirements and follow a code of conduct,”
she said.
“We should also provide the same level of protection
to ethnic minority groups as we do to those studying in other training
centres.”

This Is How We Tackle Them: UP Teacher On Making Kids
Slap A Muslim Student
August 27, 2023
The Union government moved to block online, the viral
video of a Muslim child being attacked by his classmates, in Uttar Pradesh’s
Mansurpur village. The Hindu on Friday identified at least three posts on X
(formerly Twitter), that have been taken down in India; the posts remain
available for X users in other countries. One posting of the video has over
900,000 views, with other posts having tens of thousands of views each. This is
the second instance this month of videos showing attack on minorities being
blocked on social media just as they were going viral.
The G-20 nations on August 26 arrived at a consensus
on cultural issues such as the need to address the destruction of cultural
heritage in situations of conflict, the curbing of illicit trafficking of
artefacts, the restitution of cultural property and the need to protect living
heritage, specially of indigenous people. However, there was no unanimity on
“geopolitical issues” like the war in Ukraine.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) which has puts its weight
behind the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) project is hoping for
expedited deliveries and gearing up to place additional orders. The move is to
arrest the IAF’s fighter strength falling further, from the current 31
squadrons, in the medium term. By 2030, the IAF would have 32 or 33 fighter
squadrons and would have 35 or 36 fighter squadrons by 2040 if the indigenous
fighters meet the induction timeline, a Defence official said.

At least eleven members of the Syrian government
troops were killed in an attack by an Islamist militia in northwestern Syria on
Saturday. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, at least 20

The Russian Air Force has flown several strikes on
suspected positions of jihadist militias on the southern edge of Idlib in

Iran that has been lurching from crisis to crisis, now
shrugs off outcast status after BRICS invite
27.08.23
Over the past 12 months, Iran has lurched from crisis
to crisis.
An uprising led by women and young people seeking an
end to clerical rule reverberated across the nation. High food prices
intensified a long downward spiral of the economy. Violent crackdowns by
Iranian security forces on the voices of dissent prompted widespread outrage
abroad. And the prospect of a nuclear deal with the US appeared ever more dim.
But then came a surprise announcement on Thursday that
the country had been invited to join BRICS, a group of emerging economies
aiming to act as a counterweight to western dominance of the world order.
Iranian officials immediately declared a victory, boasting about their
country’s “historic achievement” and talking up its potential as a trade
partner and as an ideological disrupter of western hegemony.

The Battle of Manzikert and the rise of the Muslim
Turks
By 5Pillars
26th August 2023
Türkiye is marking the 952nd anniversary of the Battle
of Manzikert, a pivotal historic victory for the Turks in Anatolia which paved
the way for the end of the Byzantine Empire and the rise of the Muslim Seljuks
and later Ottomans.
Fought on August 26, 1071, between the Byzantine
Empire and the Seljuk Turks, the battle stands as a turning point in history,
where the Byzantine Empire’s defeat at the hands of the Seljuk Turks reshaped
the geopolitical and cultural landscape of the Eastern Mediterranean.
“I congratulate (the nation on) the 952nd anniversary
of the Victory at Manzikert, the starting point of the chain of victories that
took us to Vienna,” President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on X, formerly known as
Twitter, referring to the Battle of Vienna about six centuries later when the
Ottoman Empire reached its territorial height.
“I commemorate Sultan Alp Arslan and his army, and all
our heroes who made Anatolia our homeland, with mercy and gratitude,” the
president added.

Only a handful Hindus, Sikhs left in Afghanistan
27 August,2023
When Kabul fell to the Taliban in 2021, there were
concerns that some of Afghanistan’s tiny non-Muslim minorities could vanish.
Two years on, those fears are becoming realised a media report said. While
Afghanistan’s last-known Jew fled the country shortly after the Taliban
takeover, the Sikh and Hindu communities are believed to have shrunk to just a
handful of families, reported a local channel.
Under the Taliban, Sikhs and Hindus have faced severe
restrictions, including on their appearances, and have been banned from marking
their religious holidays in public, leaving many with no choice but to escape
their homeland,. “I cannot go anywhere freely,” Fari Kaur, one of the last remaining
Sikhs in the capital, Kabul said.

Islamic State group almost doubled its territory in
Mali in under a year, U.N. says
August 26, 2023
UNITED NATIONS — Islamic State extremists have almost
doubled the territory they control in Mali in less than a year, and their al-Qaida-linked
rivals are capitalizing on the deadlock and perceived weakness of armed groups
that signed a 2015 peace agreement, United Nations experts said in a new
report.
The stalled implementation of the peace deal and
sustained attacks on communities have offered the IS group and al-Qaida
affiliates a chance "to re-enact the 2012 scenario," they said.
That's when a military coup took place in March and
rebels in the north formed an Islamic state two months later. The extremist
rebels were forced from power in the north with the help of a French-led
military operation, but they moved from the arid north to more populated
central Mali in 2015 and remain active.
The panel of experts said in the report that the
impasse in implementing the agreement — especially the disarmament,
demobilization and reintegration of combatants into society — is empowering
al-Qaida-linked Jama'a Nusrat ul-Islam wa al-Muslimin known as JNIM to vie for
leadership in northern Mali.
