Over three years after the ‘settlement’ of the Ram
Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute, the mosque awaits administrative clearances
before a brick can be laid. Parallelly, across the Sarayu river, on its main
bank, the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya will see visitors enter the
sanctum sanctorum by the end of the year.
In November 2019, the Constitution Bench of the Supreme
Court permitted the construction of a temple in Ayodhya, at the site where the
16th century Babri Masjid once stood, after being brought down by Hindu
fundamentalist groups. In the same order of over 1,000 pages, the top court had
asked the government — either the Centre or Uttar Pradesh (U.P.) — to allot a
“prominent and suitable” 5-acre plot in Ayodhya to the Sunni Central Waqf
Board, to construct a mosque. “This should be done simultaneously with the
transfer of the property to the proposed trust [for the temple],” the order had
said.

“Say No To LGBTQ”: Muslims March Against Homosexuality

protesting against homosexuality on Friday.

Thousands of Muslim demonstrators took to the streets
of Jinja City, on Friday condemning homosexuality.
The protesters shouted slogans and held placards with
inscriptions against the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT)
community.
The placards had words such as “say no to LGBTQ”,
“homosexuality and lesbianism is sin”, “Gayism is evil”, “homosexuality is not
African culture” and “No room for LGBTQ”.
The protestors, who also included children from
different primary and secondary schools, and leaders from other religious
groups, also organised an anti-LGBT rally at Faisal Mosque at Mvule Crescent in
Jinja City on Friday.
The chairperson of the Union of Eastern Muslim
Scholars, Mr Shafie Songolo, said it is a human principle that our [body]
organs are similar in nature but their functions are totally different.
“The mouth and nose are open in nature but their
functions are totally different. You cannot breathe through your mouth because
God created a nose with hair inside that filters dust. Having different organs
does not mean they will help each other in performing a certain task,” he said.
The Jinja City Education Officer, Mr Haruna Mulopa,
urged school heads to monitor their students’ characters to avoid cases of
homosexuality.
“These LGBT groups target schools, especially poor
children, give them money and vehicles. Teachers, you must monitor those rich
students at your schools because some of them are funded to spread
homosexuality,’’ he said.
“If animals can’t practice homosexuality, why would a
human, who was created in God’s image, practice it? As a church, we condemn same-sex
relations because it is against the divine laws and nature,” Rev Naimanye, who
was represented by Rev Emmanuel Mugabi at the anti-LGBT walk, said.
The national chairperson of Uganda Muslim Supreme
Council (UMSC), Prof Muhammad Lubega Kisambira, urged parents to talk about
LGBT to their children so that it can be stopped.
“Although we grew up knowing that talking about sex to
our children is not right until they are adults, let us talk about
homosexuality with our children. Senior female and male teachers, play your
role. The funders target children in secondary, tertiary and university,” he
said.
The Jinja District Kadhi, Sheikh Ismail Basoga, urged
the government to ban all non-government organisations that are promoting
homosexuality in Uganda.

Afghan Taliban Wants Pakistan To Bear The Cost Of
Disarming Tehreek-E-Taliban Militants
Representative Image: Afghan

-----
Feb 25, 2023
The Taliban-led government in Afghanistan has for the
first time proposed to Pakistan that it should bear the cost of disarming and
rehabilitating the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) members and their families
numbering more than 30,000 from the Pak-Afghan border areas, according to a
media report. This was revealed during the National Apex Committee meeting
chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday to formulate a strategy to
deal with the rising incidents of terror attacks in Pakistan ..
The Afghan Taliban has said it is willing to disarm
and relocate the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) militants and their families
across the border but wants Islamabad to bear the cost of the proposed
rehabilitation, the report said.
Friday's meeting comes after Defence Minister Khawaja
Asif and the Director General of the country's spy agency Inter-Services
Intelligence (ISI) Lt. General Nadeem Anjum met the top brass of the
Afghanistan Taliban regime in Kabul to share "irrefutable evidence"
with them about the presence of TTP in the neighbouring country.
The Afghan interim government's proposal includes
disarming the TTP members and relocation of their families from the Pak-Afghan
border, the report said.
However, the Afghan government has asked Pakistan to
fund the proposal and bear the cost of rehabilitation of the TTP members, it
said.
The meeting was informed that the Afghan Taliban made
a similar proposal to China to address its concerns about the East Turkestan
Islamic Movement (ETIM) in the restive Xinjiang province, the report said.
However, Pakistan is yet to respond to the Afghan
Taliban's idea as there is scepticism within the top brass that this proposal
might not be feasible, the report said.
Pakistan has been hit by a wave of terrorism, mostly
in the country's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, but also in Balochistan, the
Punjab town of Mianwali, which borders the restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province
and also in the Sindh province.

Khojaly Genocide Became Great Scourge For Humanity -
Caucasian Muslims Office
Chairman of the Caucasian
Muslims Office Allahshukur Pashazade
------
26 February 2023
BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 26. The Khojaly genocide
has become a great scourge for humanity, Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims
Office Allahshukur Pashazade told reporters, Trend reports.
Pashazade noted that the world community should
understand that Azerbaijan will never forget the murder of more than 600
civilians by Armenian fascists in one night.
"Regardless of religion, we honor this day
together with representatives of other religions. Together, we once again
appeal to the world community so that the Khojaly genocide does not happen
again. I believe that the world community will learn a lesson from this,"
he said.
On the night of February 25-26, 1992, Armenian
military formations, with the support of the 366th motorized rifle regiment
stationed in Khankendi, committed genocide against the population of the city
of Khojaly.
As a result of this bloody massacre, 613 people,
including 106 women, 63 children, and 70 older people were killed, 8 families
were completely wiped out, 25 children lost both parents, 130 children lost one
of their parents, 487 people were seriously injured, 1,275 people were taken

The Ibrahimi Mosque Massacre 29 Years Later: The
Victims Are Still Paying The Price
Palestinians marking the
29th anniversary for the Ibrahimi Mosque massacre attacked with gas bombs by
Israeli soldiers. (WAFA Images / Mashhour Wehwah)
-----
25/February/2023
HEBRON, Saturday, February 25, 2023 (WAFA) - Today
marks the 29th anniversary of the Ibrahimi Mosque massacre, which resulted in
the death of 29 Palestinian worshipers and the injury of 150 others. Yet, 29
years later, the victims are still paying the price for the massacre.
On Friday, 25 February 1994, the 15th day of the holy
Muslim fast month of Ramadan, the Jewish terrorist settler, Baruch Goldstein,
broke into the Ibrahimi Mosque, also known as Cave of the Patriarchs because it
includes shrines and tombs of prophets, located in the southern West Bank city
of Hebron, as Muslims were performing the dawn prayers on a Ramadan day and
opened fire on the worshipers killing 29 on the spot before he was neutralized
by the worshippers.
The Israeli occupation soldiers present in the area
closed the gates of the mosque to prevent the worshipers from leaving, and they
also prevented those coming from outside from entering it to help the wounded.
But the 29 were not the only victims of that massacre.
That same day, the occupation soldiers opened fire at Palestinians
participating in the funerals of the dead, killing 21 more people.
With tension escalating in the occupied territories,
soldiers opened fire at protesters the next day killing 10 more and wounding
hundreds of others.
Following the massacre, the occupation forces closed
the Ibrahimi Mosque and Hebron’s old city for a full six months, claiming to
investigate the crime. They unilaterally formed the Shamgar Commission to
investigate the massacre and its causes, which came out at the time with
several recommendations, all against the victims and favoring the terrorist
settlers.
The recommendations included dividing the Ibrahimi
Mosque between Muslims and Jews, creating new facts on the ground that worsened
living conditions for the area’s Palestinian residents, tightened security
around the holy mosque, giving the occupation authorities full control over the
mosque in order to continue to turn into a Jewish shrine, and preventing the
call to prayer from its minarets many times during the year as well as closing
it for Muslim worshipping many times in the year while opening it fully for
only Jewish worship.
Shortly after, the occupation authorities placed
cameras and electronic gates at all entrances leading to the mosque area,
closed most of the roads leading to it to Muslims, with the exception of one
gate with strict military measures, closed the popular vegetable market
(al-Hisbeh), the al-Khalil and Shaheen khans, and al-Shuhada and al-Sahla
streets. With these measures, the old town was separated from its surroundings,
measures that are still in place today and are even harsher. Their impact on
the life of the thousands of Palestinians who live in that area is very visible
to anyone who goes there.
The terrorist Baruch Goldstein, whose real name was
Benjamin Goldstein, was 42 years old when he committed the massacre. He was one
of the founders of the Jewish terrorist Kach movement. Goldstein was born in
New York, into an ultra-Orthodox Jewish family and he got his education at the
Jewish yeshiva schools in Brooklyn and got a degree in medicine from the Albert
Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University. He came to Israel from the
United States in 1980 and lived in Kiryat Arba settlement, built on usurped
Hebron lands and houses the most extreme and racist settlers in Israel.

Shashi Tharoor criticises Congress for its silence on
issues like Bilkis Bano, attacks on Muslims, Christians
Sounak Mukhopadhyay
26-02-2023
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor called on his party to
be clear in its ideological stance in favour of an inclusive India and to take
a stronger stance on issues such as cow vigilantism and attacks on minority
communities. He argued that failing to speak up in defence of India's diversity
and pluralism would constitute a surrender of the party's core responsibility.
Speaking at the party's 85th plenary session, Tharoor
emphasised the need for the Congress to stand up for its foundational
principles and not downplay certain positions for fear of alienating voters.
"We could have been more vocal on the Bilkis Bano
outrage, attacks on Christian churches, murder in the name of cow vigilantism,
bulldozer demolition of Muslim homes and similar issues," he said.

Can't Maharashtra's Muslims be like Sharad Pawar,
Uddhav Thackeray and Shinde, asks Owaisi
Pankaj Upadhyay
Feb 25, 2023
By Pankaj Upadhyay: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on
Saturday held a public rally in the suburban area of Mumbra in Thane district,
Maharashtra, and indicated that he had no sympathy for former Chief Minister
Uddhav Thackeray after his party split and Shiv Sena’s name and symbol was
allotted to the Eknath Shinde faction.
“Why did Mumbra come into existence? Who were the ones
who forced old people to flee Mumbai and come here? I haven’t forgotten
anything. And then you ask me, do I have sympathy for Uddhav Thackeray? I have
not forgotten the days when people were put behind bars under TADA,” said
Owaisi.
AIMIM chief asked the public, “If NCP's Ajit Pawar and
Supriya Sule can become leaders, Uddhav Thackeray can become a leader solely on
the virtue of being his father's son, Eknath Shinde-Devendra Fadnavis can
become leaders, can't Maharashtra's Muslims be like Sharad Pawar, Uddhav

PWD demolishes illegal extensions at ITO temple and
mosque
By HT Correspondent
Feb 26, 2023
The PWD deployed three bulldozers and two trucks for
the drive that took place under heavy police presence. Barricades were placed
on the BSZ Marg carriageway towards Delhi Gate to stop movement of vehicles,
police officers said.
A PWD official said the Saturday’s drive boundary
walls and ceilings of a temple and a mosque located between Indian National
Science Academy and Bureau of Indian standards were taken down. “We are just
complying with the court directions,” the official said asking not to be named.
In an order on Thursday, the high court ordered the
demolition of the two structures for making the pedestrian pathway uniform, and
remarked that “both the places of worship are clearly abutting the path of the
pedestrians”. Justice Pratibha M Singh said under such circumstances where the
safety of the pedestrians is jeopardised, “A larger public interest will
overweigh the concerns raised by both places of worship, i.e the mandir and the
masjid.”

African Union Criticises Tunisia Over 'Racialised Hate
Speech' Against Migrants
Feb. 25, 2023
TUNIS - The African Union (AU) has criticised Tunisia
and urged it to avoid "racialised hate speech" after President Kais
Saied ordered the expulsion of undocumented migrants and said immigration was a
plot aimed at changing his country's demographic make-up .
Tunisia's Foreign Ministry said on Saturday it was
surprised by the AU statement issued late on Friday, and rejected what it
called "baseless accusations" that it said misunderstood the
government's position.
The AU voiced what it said was "deep shock and
concern at the form and substance of the statement" issued by Tunisian
authorities and reminded Tunisia of its obligation within the 55-member state
AU to treat migrants with dignity.

Jordan hosts Israeli-Palestinian talks aimed at
averting escalation in violence
26/02/2023
They said the one-day meeting in the Red Sea port of
Aqaba, to be attended by U.S. President Joe Biden’s adviser on the Middle East,
Brett McGurk, will bring top Israeli and Palestinian security chiefs together
for the first time in many years, along with representatives of key regional
parties.
The discussions are part of Jordan's stepped-up
diplomatic engagement with Washington and regional partner Egypt to restore
calm in Israel and the Palestinian territories in Gaza and the West Bank and
trust between the two sides, the officials said, speaking on condition of
anonymity.
The meeting is aimed at giving Palestinians hope for a
political future, a senior Jordanian official told Reuters. If its objectives
are achieved, "it will be reflected on the ground," he said.
The meeting offers a chance to halt a surge in
Israeli-Palestinian clashes in recent months that has sparked Arab anger and
international concern about a slide back to a wider Israeli-Palestinian
conflict.

Turkey’s Erdogan pours billions in weapons and aid to
Africa in power play for influence in ‘new Cold War’
By Charlie Mitchell
February 26, 2023
The simplest route from Kenya to Senegal, East Africa
to West, is today via Istanbul. Drive towards Nairobi’s airport and you will
pass Turkish Airlines billboards and Turkish-trained police officers. Disembark
in Dakar and a colossal stadium, built by Turkey, soon appears on the airport
road. No car? Take the Turkish-built airport train.
This is all brand new. In 2002, Turkish Airlines did
not even serve sub-Saharan Africa and Turkey had fewer than a dozen African
embassies. Today it has 43.
Experts say the war in Ukraine has ushered in a new
scramble for Africa, or even a “new Cold War”, with Russia, China, the US,
Britain and France all competing for influence. Quietly in the background,
however, Turkey has been beefing up its role on the world’s fastest growing
continent.
Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, presents
Turkey as an “Afro-Eurasian” state, a model for the Muslim world and an
alternative to the West. But what began with humanitarian assistance and
economic development has morphed into a tangled Africa policy encompassing
business, aid, diplomacy, culture, security and military might capable of
challenging even the most established powers.

Official: 'No Monopoly' on Govt Jobs in Afghanistan
By Nazir Shinwari
26-02-2023
The acting minister of communications and information
technology, Najibullah Haqqani, disputed claims that the government has a
monopoly, saying that nearly 800,000 people, including former employees of the
previous administration, are working in the current government.
Addressing a Religious-Scientific Seminar for
Lecturers of Central Private Universities, Haqqani said that one of the factors
contributing to the nation's current crisis is the gap between universities and
madrasas (religious schools), and he called for a solution to this issue.
"If we look at the current situation in this
government, some say it's monopoly, some say it's weak, and some say it's
one-sided, but we have around 800,000 people in the government," Haqqani
added.

military bases in the region.
Cruise missiles are highly accurate, self-propelled
weapons that are designed to fly at low altitudes and follow a predetermined
flight path to their target. They are used primarily for striking ground
targets, such as enemy installations, military units, or infrastructure. Unlike
ballistic missiles, which are powered by rockets and follow an arching
trajectory into space before coming down on their target, cruise missiles fly
at a relatively low altitude and are propelled by jet engines or turbofans.

Malaysia: Act May Be Amended To Strengthen Fight
Against Child Pornography
26 Feb 2023
PETALING JAYA, Feb 26 — The Communications and Digital
Ministry is studying whether the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (CMA)
should be amended to bring it in line with efforts to set up a special police
team to combat child pornography.
Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the Cabinet felt that there
was a need to revisit certain laws in an effort to provide better protection to
children and women against pornographic activities and sexual violence.
“This is something which we will make a full
announcement on once we have begun a series of engagements across different
ministries.
“For example, the Communications and Multimedia Act,
whether there are parts of the law that need to be amended in order to save and
protect women and children, while not necessarily curbing whatever commitments
the government has made to IT companies before,” he told reporters after
opening the Selangor PKR information convention at a hotel near here today.

Cops slammed after arresting schoolboys for ridiculing
SPM history paper in viral clip
By Zarrah Morden
26 Feb 2023
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 — Human rights group Lawyers for
Liberty (LFL) today slammed the arrest of two schoolboys for “ridiculing the
SPM history paper”.
Director Zaid Malek criticised the continued existence
of Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) to restrict
free speech in a statement this morning.
“Even if there were unsavoury comments that were
uttered, it does not warrant intervention of the police force,” he said, adding
that the teenagers had already apologised for the video.
He criticised Pakatan Harapan (PH) — which is part of
the coalition government — for allowing CMA to continue to exist after its
calls for reform, especially since the Act had been used against its own
members.

Budget 2023: Sarawak needs bigger allocation to catch
up with development in peninsula, says Chinese Association president
26 Feb 2023
KUCHING, Feb 26 — Sarawak could have been given a much
bigger allocation under the Budget 2023 to catch up with the infrastructure
development in Peninsular Malaysia, said Datuk Richard Wee.
The Sarawak Federation of Chinese Associations
president said the state is in a dire need of a bigger allocation for rural
development and the development of other fundamental utilities.
He noted that Sabah and Sarawak had been allocated
much for the upgrading of dilapidated schools, but he felt that this alone would
not suffice.
“At a glance, it seems that Budget 2023 is quite
comprehensive and has covered most areas and sectors especially the Micro,
Small and Medium Enterprises with financial scheme and reduced taxation to
provide the necessary assistance for their recovery.

US papers drop 'Dilbert' cartoon after racist rant by
creator Scott Adams
26-02-2023
The cartoon "Dilbert" has been dropped from
numerous US newspapers in response to a racist rant by its creator on YouTube.
Scott Adams called Black Americans a "hate
group" and suggested white Americans "get the hell away from Black
people" in response to a conservative organisation's poll purporting to
show that many African Americans do not think it's OK to be white.
"If nearly half of all Blacks are not OK with
white people ... that's a hate group," Adams said on his YouTube channel
on Wednesday. "And I don't want to have anything to do with them."
The comments ignited a furore on social media, along
with calls for the conservative cartoonist's work to be dropped from
publishers' rosters.
His once-popular comic strip, which lampoons corporate
culture and was launched in 1989, will no longer be carried by the Los Angeles
Times, the Washington Post, the USA Today-affiliated group of newspapers and
others, the newspapers announced in statements on Friday and Saturday.

'Powder keg' for 9/11: 1993 trade center bombing
remembered
By JENNIFER PELTZ
February 26, 2023
NEW YORK -- Lolita Jackson was at her 72nd-floor desk
in the World Trade Center, feeling like she worked at the top of the world.
Then came the boom, and smoke started curling in from an elevator shaft.
Unsure what was happening, she joined thousands of
other office workers on a harrowing trek down dark, smoky stairs, emerging into
the scene of a terror attack.
It wasn't Sept. 11, 2001. This was Feb. 26, 1993, when
a deadly bombing killed six people, one of them pregnant, and injured more than
1,000 — becoming a harbinger of terror at the twin towers.
Jackson hopes that Sunday's 30th anniversary serves as
a reminder that even though decades have passed since the seismic acts of
terrorism in the United States' most populous city, no one, anywhere, can say
the threat of mass violence is over.

PTI leaders in Multan ‘shy away’ from arrests
Ahmad Fraz Khan
February 26, 2023
LAHORE / RAWALPINDI: After holding a photo session
inside prison vans and raising slogans against the government, leaders and
supporters of the PTI in Multan dispersed and went back home without courting
arrest.
After demonstrations in Lahore, Peshawar, and
Rawalpindi, the ‘Jail Bharo Tehreek’ announced by PTI chief Imran Khan earlier
this week was launched in the southern part of Punjab on the fourth day of the
movement.
Some leaders and workers gathered at Nawan Sheher
Chowk to ‘court arrest’ but they left after sloganeering even though the police
had brought three prison vans for the volunteers. However, the PTI supporters
used the opportunity only to take photos inside these vans.

Coalition seeks SC full court for suo motu case
Nasir Iqbal
February 26, 2023
ISLAMABAD: Three parties from the ruling coalition on
Saturday petitioned the Supreme Court for the formation of a full court —
comprising all judges except Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan and Justice Sayyed Mazahar
Ali Akbar Naqvi — to conduct suo motu proceedings on the delay in the
announcement of a date for elections to the Punjab and KP assemblies.
The joint petition, filed by senior counsel Farooq H.
Naek, Mansoor Usman Awan and Kamran Murtaza on behalf of the PPPP, PML-N and
JUI-F, respectively, says the prayer has been made “in the best interest of justice
and to strengthen the people’s confidence in the Supreme Court”.
It is imperative that the full court — minus the two
judges, who have already disclosed their minds in the matter — be constituted
to hear the case in the interest of justice and fairness, contends the
petition, which has been moved under Order 33 Rule 6 of the Supreme Court Rules
1980.
The petition argued that when the case was taken up by
the nine-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial
on Feb 23, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel read out a note and raised objections
to the effect that since the two-member bench consisting of Justice Ahsan and
Justice Naqvi had already rendered a definite opinion on the issue as recorded
in the court’s Feb 16 order, it would amount to a violation of Article 10A if
they remain part of the larger bench.
