Taliban FM visits Darul Uloom Deoband; Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind President Says Afghanistan Would Not Allow Terrorists To Use Its Soil Against India
Oct 11, 2025

NEW DELHI: Taliban’s foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi visited the Darul Uloom Deoband in Saharanpur on Saturday, meeting Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind President Maulana Arshad Madani and other senior officials of the seminary.
Muttaqi expressed gratitude for the warm reception and optimism about India-Afghanistan ties. “I am thankful to all of you for the warm welcome given to me by everyone in Deoband and the love showered upon me. I will pray to God that India-Afghanistan relations improve further,” he said, as quoted by news agency ANI.
The Afghan leader highlighted the significance of educational and cultural ties, noting that no political discussions took place but that historical connections were celebrated.
As per news agency ANI, Maulana Arshad Madani emphasised the historical role of Afghanistan in India’s independence struggle and reassured that Afghanistan would not allow terrorists to use its soil against India.
This visit is part of a week-long trip to India by Muttaqi, marking the first high-level delegation from Kabul since the Taliban took power in 2021.
It was founded by scholars including Maulana Muhammad Qasim Nanautawi and Maulana Rashid Muhammad Gangohi to educate Muslim youth in a rigorous, orthodox understanding of Islam, known as Deobandi Islam.
The seminary was originally part of an anti-colonial movement aimed at revitalising Islam and resisting British rule in India. Over the decades, Deobandi schools spread throughout India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and other parts of South Asia.
While Darul Uloom Deoband is in India, its teachings spread across the border into Pakistan and Afghanistan. Pashtun communities were instrumental in establishing Deobandi seminaries along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, according to The Conversation.
The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979 accelerated this process as Deobandi madrassas, supported by Pakistani authorities and funding from Saudi Arabia and the CIA, educated Afghan refugee youth who would join the anti-Soviet resistance.
Many of these students later became key figures in the Taliban. The movement’s founder, Mullah Mohammad Omar, and other Taliban leaders were educated in Deobandi-inspired seminaries in Pakistan, adopting a version of the ideology that included ultraconservative Wahhabi influences, as per NPR.
While the Taliban identify as Deobandis, scholars at the original Indian seminary emphasise that their interpretation diverged from classical Deobandi teachings.
“The Taliban say they are doing what we did in India. The way we kicked the British out of India, that’s what the Taliban are doing in Afghanistan,” said Maulana Arshad Madani back in 2021 when the Taliban took control over Afghanistan, clarifying that there is no organisational link between the seminary and the Taliban, as per NPR.
This visit of Taliban’s foreign minister comes amid efforts to improve India-Afghanistan relations, as Muttaqi emphasised hopes for increased exchanges and cooperation, including in regional projects like the Chabahar port in Iran.
The visit reinforces the soft-power and cultural dimension of diplomacy between the two countries while acknowledging the centuries-old educational and religious links that connect them.

India, Mother Of Democracy, Embracing Taliban, Father Of Jihad, Under BJP: Mehbooba Mufti
October 12, 2025

People’s Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday criticised the BJP government, accusing it of targeting Muslims in India while building relations with the Taliban in Afghanistan.
Mufti alleged that the BJP is targeting Muslims in India under the guise of “Love Jihad,” “Land Jihad,” “Vote Jihad,” and “Cow Jihad,” promoting divisive slogans that defame them.
She highlighted the contradiction in India’s relations with the Taliban, stating that while the country is assisting in rebuilding Afghanistan, including educational scholarships, Indian Muslims are being deprived of basic rights and opportunities.
“Under the names of ‘Love Jihad’, ‘Land Jihad’, ‘Vote Jihad’, and ‘Cow Jihad’, the BJP is targeting its own Muslim population and promoting slogans that defame them. Meanwhile, India–which is the mother of democracy–is embracing the Taliban, the father of jihad, under the BJP,” Mehbooba Mufti wrote on ‘X’.
Mufti criticised the government’s decision to withdraw scholarships for Muslim students while providing opportunities for Afghan students, calling it a double standard.
“It has decided to provide all kinds of assistance to rebuild Afghanistan, including educational scholarships for Afghan students. While maintaining good relations with Afghanistan may be strategically important, it creates a clear contradiction: India’s own Muslim population, who have contributed to the country’s identity and progress, are being deprived of basic rights and opportunities. Withdrawing scholarships for Muslim students highlights this internal double standard,” added Mufti.
The PDP chief also took a dig at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath after Afghanistan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi on Saturday visited Darul Uloom Deoband in UP’s Saharanpur.
“Building international relations is necessary, but the foundation of a stable and harmonious nation should be based on trust, respect, and equality within its own country, especially with its Muslim population.
The Taliban’s connection to Deobandi Islam is rooted in the movement’s ideology and history. Founded in 1866 in Deoband, Uttar Pradesh, India, the Deobandi movement is a Sunni Islamic revivalist effort that emphasises a return to core Islamic principles and rejects Western influences. It focuses on Islamic studies, jurisprudence, and spiritual purification.
The Taliban emerged in the 1990s, heavily influenced by Deobandi thought, particularly through Pakistani madrasas like Darul Uloom Haqqania, which is affiliated with Deoband. Many Taliban leaders, including Mullah Omar, studied in these institutions.
Both Deobandis and Taliban believe in implementing Islamic law in its entirety. They oppose Western cultural and intellectual influences, seeing them as a threat to Islamic values. Deobandi institutions emphasise traditional Islamic learning, which has shaped the Taliban’s worldview.
The Taliban’s visit to Darul Uloom Deoband in India signifies a strategic move to assert their ideological authenticity and independence from Pakistan’s Deobandi networks.
Muttaqui is on a week-long visit to India, beginning from October 9 till October 16. This is the first high-level delegation from Kabul to India since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in August 2021.

"58 Pak Soldiers Killed": Taliban's Big Claim And A Warning After Strikes
Oct 12, 2025

Taliban warned Pakistan of leaving "no attack unanswered".
-----------
Taliban spokesperson Zabeehullah Mujahid on Sunday said they killed at least 58 Pakistani soldiers and over 30 were left wounded in retaliatory strikes near the Durand Line in Behrampur district. He also warned Pakistan of leaving "no attack unanswered" and accused it of letting ISIS terrorists hide on their soil.
"Pakistan has turned a blind eye to the presence of ISIS on its soil. Afghanistan has the right to defend its air and land borders and will not leave any attack unanswered. Pakistan should expel the important ISIS members who are hiding there from its soil or hand them over to the Islamic Emirate. The ISIS group poses a threat to many countries in the world, including Afghanistan," Mujahid said.
According to the Taliban leader, the Islamic Emirate had cleared its territory of those causing unrest, but they established new centers in Pashtunkhwa. "Recruits were brought to these centers for training via Karachi and Islamabad airports. Even attacks in Afghanistan are being planned from these centers, and there is documented evidence of this," he said.
Defending the retaliatory strikes, the Taliban spokesperson said, "A significant amount of weapons also fell into the hands of the Islamic Emirate forces. In these clashes, more than 20 members of the Islamic Emirate forces were also killed or wounded. Afghanistan has the right to defend its air and land borders and will not leave any attack unanswered."
Three explosions were reported in Afghanistan on Thursday - two in Kabul and one in the southeastern Paktika. The Taliban blamed Islamabad and accused it of violating its sovereignty. Pakistan, however, did not confirm it was behind the attacks, but called on Kabul "to stop harbouring the Pakistani Taliban on its soil."
The Afghan forces, hitting back at Pakistan, targeted Pakistani posts in the provinces of Helmand, Kandahar, Zabul, Paktika, Paktia, Khost, Nangarhar, and Kunar. All these provinces are located along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the airstrikes and said the country's army "not only gave a befitting reply to Afghanistan's provocations but also destroyed several of their posts, forcing them to retreat." "There will be no compromise on Pakistan's defence, and every provocation will be met with a strong and effective response," he said.

‘Jews and Muslims in Britain understand that the real enemy is not each other’
Dave Cohen
12th October, 2025

I spent most of Yom Kippur fretting, unable to find out if my nephew – a congregant at the Heaton Park Synagogue – had been murdered or injured. Thankfully it was neither. Two days later I had to hope other family members would escape arrest attending their weekly Palestine Action demos.
My story is not untypical. If you think Jews are not short of enemies abroad you should hear how we argue among ourselves. The fall-out from October 7 is only the latest in a long line of Middle Eastern confrontations that have divided our small but vociferous community for decades.
The Suez Crisis of 1956, the 1967 Six Day War, 1973 Yom Kippur War, the Beirut massacre, the Intifada… I could go on. British Jews have stumbled from one crisis to another in fractious disagreement.
Just when you think it can’t get any worse, it does. Half a century of struggling with the issue has taught me that hope is followed by disappointment sure as night follows day.
Why then am I writing today, as a peace process is being dictated by a pair of ageing right-wing demagogues primarily interested in keeping themselves out of jail, with the slightest sense of optimism?
How can I argue, with a straight face, that the current situation offers not just the possibility of an end to the Israeli bombardment of civilians in Gaza but a positive way forward for the Labour Party?
The answer comes from my family. We may cover the entire spectrum of opinion on Israel and Palestine and disagree fundamentally, but we still talk to each other about it.
Corbyn’s election was the intellectual left’s Brexit moment, Palestine its obsession. We were all expected to swear unquestioning allegiance to the leader. This was a difficult time for left-wing Jews in the party, many of whom had been actively supporting pro-Palestinian groups for years but were wary of Corbyn’s relationship with Hamas and Hizbollah.
What kept me in my local party, despite the hostility I faced, was the unwavering support I received from Muslim colleagues, most of whom were equally suspicious of those friendships.
Muslims have been struggling themselves for the last two years. Imams have been working closely with local Police since October 7 and have done a brilliant job across the country in keeping the angry young men in their mosques out of serious trouble.
Many of these younger congregants have been radicalised by jihadi groups and men like Andrew Tate, who is a popular figure among the most extreme Islamists for his attitude towards women.
As chance would have it, last Sunday was ‘National Visit My Mosque’ day, a celebration that’s been going since 2015. After the attack on Heaton Park synagogue it was heartening to see so many members of my Jewish community turning up to our local mosque in solidarity.
In his conference speech Sir Keir Starmer broke with years of silence on the importance of community politics to talk passionately about their power and strength.
His honest raising of the issue of white working class alienation attempted the kind of tricky tightrope walking around Labour tribes that Imams and Rabbis face every day in their own politically diverse communities.
The recognition of Palestine is being largely ignored but its significance can’t be overstated. Extreme voices on both sides scoff – it came too late for pro-Palestinians and shouldn’t have come at all for some Jews. But for the majority on both sides it represents a chance to come together, to repair relationships that have been damaged by middle Eastern politics and racism in our own country.
It’s the same for Labour. Party leaders should be talking to Muslim MPs who might have been thinking of defecting. This is a big moment, big enough for Netanyahu to accuse Starmer of siding with terrorists.
Jewish members who have struggled with the appalling policies of Netanyahu’s government can now be more vocal in our support for Labour’s recognition. Although he won’t say it aloud, Trump’s peace plan is also effectively the US recognising Palestine. The proposal for two independent states has always been resisted most vociferously by the biggest opponents of peace, Netanyahu’s government and Hamas.

Jews and Muslims in Britain understand that the real enemy is not each other but the man who is being talked of as our next Prime Minister. We’re right to worry about the effect of social media and opposition faced from all sides but nothing defeats extremists better than the slow, painstaking effort of building communities who for all their disagreements are happy to live side by side.
How likely is Trump’s process to succeed? I’m not holding my breath. But as Gazan doctor JazrKawkby told a gathering of peace activists in London last weekend – there’s no viable alternative. “The time has come to build a shared future rooted in justice, equality, and self-determination for all Palestinians and Israelis.”

Hamas, Islamic Jihad Hail global solidarity, thank Iran and other allies for supporting Gaza ceasefire
October 11, 2025

The Palestinian resistance movements Hamas and Islamic Jihad expressed deep gratitude for the “unprecedented wave of global solidarity” supporting the Palestinian people.
------------
They specifically praised Iran, Lebanon, Yemen, and Iraq for their diplomatic, political, and humanitarian roles in backing ceasefire efforts and standing with Gaza during the Israeli genocide.
In a joint statement, the groups said that international voices rejecting genocide and demanding accountability for the occupation have sent a powerful message that the Palestinian cause is both a political and humanitarian issue of global importance.
They noted that the support of these nations and global movements has significantly boosted the morale of Palestinians, demonstrating that “the occupiers are an isolated and besieged entity.”
Hamas and Islamic Jihad also confirmed that despite Israeli efforts to obstruct negotiations and prolong the conflict, the Palestinian negotiating delegation remains focused on securing a permanent end to the war, stopping aggression in Gaza, ensuring withdrawal from occupied territories, and lifting the blockade.
The statement said the first phase of an agreement toward these goals has already been reached and the next phases will be carried out soon.

Indian National Congress Slams Home Minister Over Anti-Muslim Statement
12 October 2025
AhlulBayt News Agency: The Congress leader called Amit Shah’s statement “an attempt to ignite Hindu-Muslim tensions” and described it as a vile strategy to polarize voters ahead of the upcoming elections in Bihar.
Questioning the timing of Shah’s remarks, Khera pointed out that the BJP has been in power at the Centre for the past 11 years, yet this issue was never raised before. “Now, with elections in Bihar just around the corner, suddenly the Muslim population becomes a concern,” he said.
“In such a situation, a logical question arises — if the Muslim population has, as he claims, increased due to infiltration, then what exactly has the Home Minister been doing for the past 11 years?”
The Minister of Cooperation said the most uncooperative thing on 10th Oct to fan the Hindu-Muslim fire, and polarise voters ahead of the upcoming elections. He pointed to the increasing population of Muslims on X, to insinuate that there is widespread ‘Muslim infiltration’ in… pic.twitter.com/pmg16jdgV7
Speaking at an event in Delhi, Amit Shah, Home Minister of India and a member of Parliament from the BJP—a far-right party—claimed that the Muslim population in India has increased by 24.6%, while the Hindu population has declined by 4.5%. He insisted that this demographic change was not due to fertility rates but was instead the result of cross-border infiltration.

MMK, Tamil Nadu, Criticized Indian Home Minister’s anti-Muslim Remarks
12 October 2025
AhlulBayt News Agency: The ManithaneyaMakkalKatchi (MMK), on Saturday, condemned the Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his recent comments on the birth rate of Indian Muslims, accusing him of attempting to incite communal divisions ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections.
In a statement, MMK president and Tamil Nadu MLA Prof. M. H. Jawahirullah said the remark was a “reckless and politically motivated distortion of demographic reality.” He warned that such rhetoric from the country’s top law-and-order authority could endanger social harmony and undermine the constitutional principle of equality among citizens.
Citing Census data and studies by the Pew Research Center and the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5), Jawahirullah said India’s Muslim fertility rate has been steadily declining for more than two decades—faster than that of most other communities. He added that the community’s population growth has stabilised in line with broader socio-economic trends such as education, urbanisation, and women’s empowerment.
“To attribute this natural demographic change to infiltration is not only baseless but also an insult to Indian citizens who belong to the Muslim community,” the MMK leader said.

Islamic Emirate: Afghan-Tajik Border Secure, Receives Special Attention
12-10-2025
Mujahid stated that Afghanistan’s borders are secure and that the border with Tajikistan receives particular attention compared to others.
Zabihullah Mujahid said: “Especially regarding the border with Tajikistan, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan pays greater attention to its security. Both sides have their responsibilities in this regard. We have fulfilled our responsibilities well, and God willing, we will continue to give it even more attention.”
President Vladimir Putin stated: “We see that Afghanistan’s current authorities are trying and doing everything they can to normalize the situation in the country. However, many problems still remain, and Afghan officials themselves acknowledge and are aware of this. Bangladesh ships $850m worth of halal products annually: DCCI
Oct 11, 2025
Bangladesh exports around $850 million worth of halal products each year, most of which come from agriculture-based goods, said Razeev H Chowdhury, senior vice-president of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI).
In addition to Muslim consumers, many non-Muslim countries are now showing growing interest in halal products due to their quality and hygienic production processes, Chowdhury said.
"As the fourth-largest Muslim-majority country in the world, and with abundant agricultural, livestock, and fisheries resources, Bangladesh holds strong potential," he said.
"As a Muslim-majority nation, this is concerning for us. Bangladesh's readymade garment sector has already demonstrated our capabilities on the global stage. Now, it is time to develop the halal industry as a new driver of our economy," he added.

London mosque faces criticism over 'men and young girls only' charity fun run
Michael Howie
12 October 2025
A mosque is facing criticism over entry rules for a charity fun run.
The 5km run being held in London’s Victoria Park, billed as “inclusive” and “family-friendly”, is only open to men and girls under the age of 12.
Baroness Shaista Gohir OBE, the chief executive of the Muslim Women's Network UK, told the Mail on Sunday that the organisers were “likely” in breach of the Equality Act.
Kellie-Jay Keen, founder of feminist group Party Of Women, said: “Banning women and girls over the age of 12 from a public charity event is plainly unlawful… and reinforces regressive sexist attitudes towards women's place in public life.
“No charity should be allowed to operate under a different set of rules because of religion or culture. Equality before the law must apply to everyone.”

'Very cheap' - Council decision to sell land to mosque for car park ‘called in’ for further scrutiny
By Chris Gee
12th Oct 2025
Bolton council have agreed in principle to sell the area of open space on Harold Street North, Halliwell, to the trustees of the Makki Muslim Society with a restriction in place that it can only be used for a car park.
A meeting of the deputy leader’s portfolio heard the mosque was to be expanded and that development would ‘eat into’ part of their existing car park.
The valuation of £40,000 for the area was produced independently by chartered surveyors Fletchers CRE. The mosque is set to pay an up front premium of £40,000 and subsequently have a lease of 125 years with a nominal rent.
The meeting heard that the proposals would improve off street car parking in that area with Harold Street described as a ‘bit of a rat run’ for vehicles.

Posted to Easton Jamia Mosque and personally addressed to Abdul Malik, the handwritten note contains extremely abusive language and makes reference to far-right groups, including Bristol Patriots.
Malik described the letter, seen by Bristol24/7, as the worst example of hate mail he has ever received as a city councillor and faith leader, and it reflects rising Islamaphobic and racist hatred in Bristol.
“The letter tries to spread fear, but our answer has got to be courage and community,” said the chairperson of the place of worship on St Mark’s Road in Easton.
Malik, who recently wrote in an opinion piece that racism is becoming more visible and aggressive in Bristol, has called for unity and strength in the wake of the disturbing incident.

Iran capable of exporting missiles: Top Iranian Cmdr.
October 11, 2025
TEHRAN – A senior Iranian military commander says the country has reached self-sufficiency and developed the capability to export its products in sensitive military areas, adding Iran is now is capable of exporting missiles to other countries.
“Today, we are proud to be one of the countries that can export missiles, drones and vessels,” said Brigadier General AlirezaTangsiri, the commander of the Naval Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).
The top general stressed that Iran was the target of military aggression during the 8-year Iraqi-imposed war in the 1890s and had very limited military equipment back then.
“They attacked us. We had bare hands. We had nothing, and they didn’t give us anything, either. As the Supreme Leader of the [Islamic] Revolution [Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei] aptly said, they even denied us barbed wire,” he noted.
The Israeli regime claimed that it had taken out Iran’s capability to develop missiles and drones during its recent military aggression against the country.

Destruction Assessment Continues as Hamas Security Deploys in Gaza
12 October 2025
The security apparatus of the Hamas-run government in the Gaza Strip has widened its deployment across new areas of the enclave, seeking to reassert control and restore public order after months of chaos and Israeli pursuit of its members during the war that ended with a ceasefire taking effect at noon on Friday.
From the first moments of the ceasefire, small groups of Hamas security officers appeared in the streets, with their presence growing notably by Saturday morning. The deployment was visible in Gaza City following Israel’s withdrawal, as well as in parts of central and southern Gaza.
Security officers were seen at intersections and major roads, inspecting vehicles, particularly in eastern Gaza City, where Israeli forces and armed groups remain active.
Field sources reported that internal security units and members of Hamas’ military intelligence, affiliated with the Qassam Brigades, were heavily deployed in northern Gaza, especially in Jabalia town and its refugee camp.

Shia Alliance Condemns US Sanctions on PMF-Affiliated Company
11/10/2025
ERBIL — Iraq’s Coordination Framework (CF), the Shiite political alliance leading the current government, on Saturday condemned the latest US sanctions imposed on Al-Muhandis General Company, describing the move as a violation of Iraq’s sovereignty and an attack on the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF).
The US Department of the Treasury recently sanctioned several Iraqi entities and individuals, including Al-Muhandis General Company and Baladna Agricultural Investments, accusing them of channeling funds and intelligence to Iran-backed militias, particularly Kataib Hezbollah.
The Treasury said the designations aimed to disrupt financial networks that support groups responsible for attacks on US and Coalition personnel in Iraq and Syria.
CF lawmaker Mukhtar al-Mousawi told Iraqi local media that the sanctions “represent a direct assault on the PMF and Iraqi sovereignty,” calling them “a blatant interference” in domestic affairs and an attempt to undermine Iraqi state institutions.
He emphasized that Al-Muhandis Company plays “a vital national role” by contributing to reconstruction and strategic service projects across multiple provinces, employing thousands of Iraqis, and supporting the rebuilding of areas liberated from the Islamic State (IS).

In Queens, a holiday effort to foster dialogue between Jews and Muslims
By Arun Venugopal
Oct 11, 2025
Dan Fleshler, a Jewish resident of Jackson Heights, proudly identifies with his Queens neighborhood, one that is by many measures the nation’s most diverse. But he also recognizes the limitations of his day-to-day life.
“I really don’t have a whole lot of contact with my Muslim neighbors,” Fleshler said. He added that, outside of a monthly open-mic night he takes part in at local coffee shop Espresso 77, “it’s incidental contact.”
Fleshler, as a partial remedy, said he plans to attend a Jewish-Muslim gathering on Sunday that, in the multicultural spirit of Jackson Heights, is taking place in the garden of St. Marks, an Episcopal church.
The event, “Finding shelter in each other,” is being hosted by Malkhut, a 10-year-old organization whose stated purpose is to build “a creative, progressive, intergenerational Jewish community in Western Queens.” The event will be held in the organization’s sukkah, a temporary outdoor structure built for the Jewish holiday of Sukkot.
Malkhut founder Rabbi Rachel Goldenberg said the event, which is at capacity, grew out of the relationship she has forged with Imam Shamsi Ali, the director of the Jamaica Muslim Center in Queens.
“It has been sort of a fraught thing, I think, for Jews and Muslims to share space with each other,” Goldenberg said. “ There are various, powerful interests who would probably rather us not be in relationship with each other.”

‘Outstanding achievement’: VolodymyrZelenskyy praises Trump for Gaza ceasefire; suggests it could help resolve Russian conflict
Oct 12, 2025
Ukraine’s President VolodymyrZelenskyy praised his US counterpart Donald Trump for his “outstanding achievement” in securing a Gaza ceasefire during a “very positive and productive” phone call.
"I had a call with US President Donald Trump—a very positive and productive one. I congratulated @POTUS on his success and the Middle East deal he was able to secure, which is an outstanding achievement. If a war can be stopped in one region, then surely other wars can be stopped as well—including the Russian war," Zelenskyy said through a post on X.
The two leaders also discussed Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and measures to strengthen the country’s air defences, Zelenskyy said, “as well as concrete agreements that we are working on to ensure this.”
The leaders also discussed the possible supply of Tomahawk long-range missiles, according to two sources familiar with the matter, as reported by Axios.

Explained: US Shutdown Showdown - How Donald Trump plans to pay American troops
Oct 12, 2025
Even as the federal government shutdown drags into its third week with no end in sight, President Donald Trump says American troops will still see their paycheques on October 15. Here’s how — and why it’s controversial.
Trump announced on Truth Social that his administration has “identified funds” to ensure service members are paid on time, despite the budget impasse in Congress. He directed Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to “use all available funds” to get troops paid.
According to the White House Office of Management and Budget, the administration plans to redirect around $8 billion from the Pentagon’s unobligated research, development, testing, and evaluation (RDT&E) funds from the previous fiscal year. These funds, which remain available for two years, will now be used to issue paycheques if the shutdown continues past October 15.
Historic stakes: If not for the move, troops could have missed their first paycheques — a politically explosive scenario as the shutdown enters its third week.

Grand Mufti raises objections to CBL’s supposedly Islamic – Sharia compliant certificates of deposit
by Sami Zaptia
October 12, 2025
Libya’s Grand Mufti, Sheikh Al-Sadeg Al-Ghiriani said that the ‘‘Absolute Speculative’’ (referred to as Mudaraba in Islamic – Sharia) certificates of deposit proposed for sale by the Central Bank of Libya (CBL) are not 100 percent Islamic – Sharia compliant.
The Fatwa by the Grand Mufti could not only wreck the sale of the CBL’s planned certificates of deposit but it could also create enemies and agitate activism against it if it is perceived to be acting in a non-Islamic manner.
The Grand Mufti, speaking on his dedicated satellite TV channel last Thursday (9 October), said these certificates of deposits offered by the CBL include a guaranteed profit, which is not permissible under Islamic law. Sharia-compliant speculation does not specify profit limits and requires a specific activity, he explained.
He therefore insisted that the CBL’s planned certificates of deposit must not be ‘‘absolute’’ but must specify in which sector they are to be invested.

Balancing faith and pets: Somali families navigate dog ownership in Minnesota
12-10-2025
Mohamud’s connection to dogs stretches back to his childhood in Mogadishu’s Hodanneighborhood, where he often watched local Italian expatriates and diplomats walking their dogs.
Local imams sometimes ease up on rulings to acknowledge the reality of raising families in the U.S., where nearly 45.5% of households have a dog. Imam Abdirahman Bashir, a former judge in Djibouti and an imam at Dar Al-Farooq Center in Bloomington, has advised that dogs are not impure when dry and that Muslims may keep them if precautions are taken against contact with saliva.
In Egypt and many Muslim countries, the number of registered dog owners has grown significantly over the past decade. The halal pet food industry is booming, with projections estimating a global market value of $2.5 billion this year.

Holy Antiochian Synod focused on Christian–Muslim relations and social care
Oct 11, 2025
The fourth day of the Holy Antiochian Synod continued with dialogue sessions moderated by journalist ZeinaYazigi.
The first session, titled “Christian-Muslim Relations,” featured interventions by Dr. Mohammed Sammak, Secretary-General of the National Islamic-Christian Dialogue Committee in Lebanon; AsmaaKaftaro, member of the Syrian Women’s Advisory Board; and Prof. George Tamer, scholar of philosophy and Islamic studies.
Speakers emphasized that in the East, “we live as one nation of multiple religions, ethnicities, and sects.” They stressed that “coexistence or civil peace should not be seen as a theoretical concept used in discussions, but as a living value that allows us to express both our unity of will and the diversity of our identities.”
They affirmed that Christians are an integral part of the national fabric and called for “a constructive and open Church discourse” that counters exclusion and launches practical initiatives—through meetings and dialogues—on issues of public concern.
Such actions, they noted, highlight the historic dimension of coexistence as a guarantee of social and national stability and underline the crucial role of Orthodox Christianity in building bridges of trust and understanding among religiously and ethnically diverse communities.

Insecurity: Frank asks Tinubu to sack Service Chiefs, commends Trump, others
October 12, 2025
A political activist and former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately sack the nation’s security chiefs following the unabated killings of Nigerians across the country.
Frank, in a statement in Abuja, in reaction to the fresh killing of soldiers in Borno state by suspected Boko Haram insurgents, expressed deep concern over the rising wave of insecurity, banditry, and kidnappings, describing the situation as a national tragedy that requires urgent executive action.
According to Frank, Nigerians are being killed “like chickens” daily across the North, South, East, and West, a clear indication that the country’s security architecture has collapsed under the current leadership.
“Our soldiers and policemen are dying in large numbers due to poor funding and lack of proper equipment. Despite massive budgetary allocations to the security sector, the funds do not reach the men and women on the front lines, nor are they used to purchase the right equipment needed to combat insecurity,” the statement read.

DPM Zahid calls on Bumiputera youth to become job creators and drive Malaysia’s economic future
By Dhesegaan Bala Krishnan
12 Oct 2025
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has urged young Bumiputera graduates to venture into entrepreneurship over being just jobseekers, citing concerning statistics on the community’ unemployment and corporate equity ownership.
Speaking at the PuTERA35 @ UiTM outreach program today, Ahmad Zahid warned that if young graduates only compete for existing jobs, the Bumiputera unemployment rate — which, at four per cent, is already higher than the national average — will remain chronic.
“But today’s world offers you bigger opportunities to become creators of jobs, wealth, and opportunities,” Ahmad Zahid said. “If we are slow, others will take the lead. But if we move fast, we will lead the way.”
He also said Bumiputera corporate equity ownership still hovers around 18.4 per cent, far from the 30 per cent target set under the New Economic Policy.
