Setting Up Girls Educational Institutions Better Than
Constructing Mosque: Saifullah Rahmani
Maulana Khalid Saifullah
Rahmani going round the exhibition
-----
1st October 2022
Imparting education to women, like men, is a divine
command in Islam. In fact Islam has never been a hindering factor in the
education and progress of Muslim women. Under the present times setting up of
schools and colleges for girls is much important than constructing a beautiful
mosque, said Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, general secretary, All India
Muslim Personal Law Board.
He was addressing women and girls after inaugurating
an exhibition on the “Great intellectual Muslim Women of all times” at the
Salar Jung Museum here on Saturday. The two day exhibition is being organised
by ILM Foundation in association with the Shaheen Group of educational
institutions, Islaah and Asli Talbina.
The New Education Policy, he said, was so designed as
to adversely impact the morale of the religious minorities in the country. The
NEP largely ignored the contributions of Muslim rulers and the community in
various fields. Now claims were being made even on Taj Mahal and Qutb Minar.
The fact, however, remained that the Mughal monument continued to be the
biggest revenue earner for the country and a great crowd puller from tourism
point of view, Maulana Rahmani said.
He felt students pursuing education under the NEP
would end up with an inferiority complex. Therefore, it is imperative that the
community sets up its own educational intuitions where boys and girls can study
and learn the rich legacy and contributions of Muslims. “Affluent Muslims
should channel their money and resources for creating more educational avenues
for girls in the community so that they can study keeping their identity
intact”, Maulana Rahamani said.
Stating that education had become a big business these
days, he urged the affluent and influential persons in the community to set up
institutions which all sections of the society could afford without any
problem. While keeping the fee structure in the reach of the common man, care
should be taken to ensure that the quality of education is not compromised, he
said.
Maulana Rahmani, who earlier went round the
exhibition, described it as the need of the hour. Contributions of Muslim women
have been explained beautifully through charts. The Maulana wanted the
exhibition to be permanently displayed at some place so that more and more
people could see it. Stating that there is no gender discrimination in Islam,
he said women formed half of the humanity. He did not agree with the Bible
theory that woman was created from the ribs of Adam. This, he said, portrayed
women in poor light and denied their independent existence.
Maulana Rahmani said while Islam did not burden women
with the responsibility of earning money, it also did not stop them from
pursing education and excelling in their chosen fields of activity.
Shaikh Asgar Ali Imam Mehdi, president, Jamiat
Ahlehadees Hind, said educating a girl was akin to educating the entire
humanity. Islam attached great important to women’s education and upbringing.
There is an entire chapter on women called ‘An Nisa’ in the holy Quran. But
there is no such exclusive chapter on men. Further the Prophet of Islam gave
glad tidings of paradise to the man who properly brings up his daughter and
educates her. Hamid Mohammed Khan, president, Jamate Islami Hindi, TS & AP
also spoke.
Dr. Asma Zahra, chief organiser of All India Muslim
Personal Law Board women’s wing, said the exhibition is an eye-opener as it
showcased the contribution of Muslim women in different spheres of life.
Unfortunately, Muslim women are being depicted today as ‘bechari’ (miserable woman)
confined to home and lagging behind veil. But history showed how Muslim women
scaled the pinnacle of glory by sheer dint of their intellect and skills. Women
are not just objects of beauty and glamour as the world would like to portray,
she said and hoped, the exhibition would inspire the young generations to take
pride in their glorious past.
All the speakers praised M. A. Lateef Atear of ILM
Foundation for the efforts taken by him in organising the exhibition, something
none has attempted so far. Earlier he had held an exhibition showcasing the
contribution of Muslims in the field of science and technology. Later Lateef
said he proposed to broad base the exhibition and take it to different girls’
schools and colleges in the country.
Mufti Umar Abideen, who compeered the programme, threw
light on the contribution of Muslim women and said one-fourth of Shariah
rulings had come to the community through women scholars like Hazrath Aisha and
others. Earlier, two documentaries highlighting the contribution of Muslim
women in different sphere were presented.
Close to 50 exhibits have been put up in the eastern
block of the Salar Jung Museum highlighting the contribution of women as
scholars, educationists, nurses, warriors, jurists and business women. On display
are also drawings depicting women as educationists and warriors. Girl students
were seen explaining about the exhibits to visitors in both Urdu and English
languages.

Mecca-Based
World Muslim League Praises India for Policy Of Non-Violence And Tolerance
Towards All
Oct
3, 2022
NEW
DELHI: India has received unusual praise from Saudi Arabia's World Muslim
League for its policy of non-violence and tolerance towards all.
The
Mecca-based World Muslim League timed its praise for India's Global and
National outlook on Gandhi Jayanti- something which Saudi Arabia-based Islamic
Group has never done before.
Hailing
Mahatma Gandhi for being a pioneer of the philosophy of non-violence, the
Muslim World League, for the first time, paid tribute to Gandhi on his 153rd
birth anniversary and said that the day should be an occasion to spread the
message of non-violence internationally.
"Today,
October 2, we celebrate Gandhi Jayanti to honour the birthday and remember the
life of Mahatma Gandhi, a visionary, freedom fighter, and follower of
non-violence. Today also is the International Day of Non-Violence," Muslim
World League wrote in a tweet.

Muslim World League (@MWLOrg_en) 1664712728000
It
added that October 2 should be used as an opportune day to spread the message
of non-violence on an international level. "Every year, the world
celebrates the International Day Of Non-Violence, celebrating the life of the
pioneer of the non-violence philosophy, Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. An occasion to
spread the message of non-violence internationally through education and public
awareness," it tweeted.
The
Muslim World League is an international non-governmental Islamic organization
based out of Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Mecca or Makkah is the birthplace of Prophet
Muhammad and is the location of Islam's holiest place Ka'aba.
October
2 also coincides with the International Day Of Non-Violence.
"On
this day every year, the world celebrates the International Day Of
Non-Violence, remembering the life path and strategy of the pioneer of the
philosophy of Non-Violence, Mahatma Gandhi. It is an occasion to spread the
message of Non-Violence through education and public awareness."
The
wishes extended by the organization on the birth anniversary of
"Bapu" underscores the forging of ties between India with the Muslim
and Arab world at large.
Notably,
there has been a paradigm shift in the relationship between the two countries
under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The
visit of PM Narendra Modi to Riyadh in April 2016 captured the spirit of
enhanced cooperation in the political, economic, security and defence realms.
During
the visit, King Salman conferred the Kingdom's highest civilian honour on Prime
Minister Modi, indicating the importance Saudi Arabia attached to its relations
with India.
The
visit of Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman to India in February 2019 further
took forward this momentum. During the visit, it was announced that the Kingdom
would invest approximately $100 billion in India and six MoUs/Agreements were
signed in the fields of investment, tourism, housing, exchange of audio-visual
programmes, and an agreement was signed to pave way for Saudi Arabia to join
the International Solar Alliance (ISA), which was launched by Prime Minister
Modi.
Prime
Minister Modi visited Riyadh again on October 28-29, 2019, during which the
Strategic Partnership Council (SPC) Agreement was signed, which established a
high-level council to steer the Indo-Saudi relationship.
Twelve
MoUs/Agreements were signed during the visit across several fields, including
energy, security, defence production, civil aviation, medical products,
strategic petroleum reserves, small and medium scale industries, and the
training of diplomats. During the visit, PM Modi also delivered the keynote
address at the Third Future Investment Initiative Summit.

Ulema Council to Support Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Bill on Transpersons

October
3, 2022
LAHORE:
Islam is the protector of human rights and Muslims are responsible for the
rights of minorities in Muslim-majority countries, said Hafiz Tahir Mahmood
Ashrafi, chairman of Pakistan Ulema Council.
Addressing
the Paigham-i-Rehmatul Al-Alameen Conference here on Sunday, he said the
Constitution and law is the biggest protector of the rights of minorities in
Pakistan.
After
the arrival of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), the rights of women got protection as
before him the Arabs usually buried their daughters alive. The education of
girls is also important in the same way that education of boys is important,
said Ashrafi.
He
said Islam does not allow forced conversions.
He
announced that Friday sermons on Oct 7 would be delivered on the topic of
‘Rights of women and minorities’ in the light of the Seerat-i-Mustafa (PBUH).
He
said a solution to Pakistan’s problems lies in the implementation of
Nizam-i-Mustafa as the major reason for the problems is the usury system. He
called for immediate steps to eliminate usury from the country.
He
said for the last 75 years, the country had been asking for loans and aids from
the world and Muslim countries, now the whole nation should think together to
get Pakistan out of it.
He
said that Pakistan’s vast areas have been inundated by floods, but
unfortunately the political leadership is entangled in pursuing politics of
ego.
He
asked if it is the sole responsibility of the prime minister and army chief to
seek measures for the flood-affected people.
Talking
to the media after the conference, Hafiz Ashrafi admitted his lack of knowledge
regarding the transgender law.
He
said the people and religious community did not receive any information
regarding the law enacted in 2018.
He
said it’s the responsibility of the parliamentary parties to play their role
and raise their voice against the legislation made contrary to the Islamic
teachings and the Constitution.
He
commended the amendment bill presented by the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam regarding
the transgender law and announced PUC support for it, hoping that the
government would cooperate in this regard in view of the sentiments of the
religious community.
He
said that no doubt transgender persons are an oppressed section of society and
they should be supported in every way. But, under the guise of Transgenders, if
someone wants homosexuality in the country or introduce the measures contrary
to the Constitution, law and Islamic teachings, then it cannot be allowed.”

Lawmakers Chant ‘Thank You, Police,’ Amid Growing Public Fury over Mahsa Amini
Death
A

an intersection during protests for Mahsa Amini, a woman who died after being
arrested by the Islamic republic’s “morality police,” in Tehran on September
19, 2022. (AFP)
------
02
October, 2022
Iranian
lawmakers chanted “thank you, thank you, police” during a parliament session on
Sunday, amid weeks of anti-government protests across Iran following the death
of a young woman in police custody, Iranian state media reported.
The
protests, sparked by the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini from Iranian
Kurdistan, have spiralled into the biggest show of opposition to Iran’s
authorities in years, with many calling for the end of more than four decades
of Islamic clerical rule.
Pledging
allegiance to the Islamic Republic’s top authority Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei,
the lawmakers chanted: “The blood in our veins is a gift to our leader,” a
video shared on Iranian state media showed.
Khamenei
has not commented on the protests, which began at Amini’s funeral on Sept. 17
and quickly spread to Iran’s 31 provinces, with all layers of society,
including ethnic and religious minorities, taking part.
Several
prominent soccer players who are stars in Iran and around Asia, including the
former captain of Iran's national team, Ali Daei, have criticized the
repression of protesters. Some social media posts suggested that Daei has been
banned from leaving Iran. Reuters could not confirm the report.
The
protests have not abated despite the growing death toll and the crackdown by
security forces using tear gas, clubs, and
in
some cases, according to videos on social media and rights groups, live
ammunition.
Videos
on social media showed demonstrations in several cities such as Kermanshah,
Shiraz and Mashhad on Sunday, with participants chanting “independence,
freedom, death to Khamenei.”
Activist
Twitter account 1500tasvir, which has more than 160,000 followers, posted a
video of protesters in the central city of Isfahan calling for a nationwide
strike and setting up a road block to bring truck drivers to their ranks.
Reuters
could not verify the videos.
Death
in coma
Amini
was arrested on Sept. 13 in Tehran for “unsuitable attire” by the morality
police who enforce the Islamic Republic’s strict dress code. She died three
days later in hospital after falling into a coma.
The
lawyer for Amini’s family, Saleh Nikbakht, told the semi-official Etemadonline
news website that “respectable doctors” believe she was hit in custody. Amini’s
autopsy report and other medical details have not been released, but her father
said he saw bruises on her leg and that other women detained with her said she
was beaten.
Iran’s
police authorities say Amini died of a heart attack and deny she was beaten to
death in custody.
The
country’s hardline President Ebrahim Raisi has ordered an investigation into
Amini’s death. He said last week that a forensic report would be presented in
“coming days.”
Amnesty
International on Friday reported 52 people killed in the protests, with
hundreds injured and thousands arrested. Iranian state media said last week, 41
people, including security forces, had been killed.
Amini’s
death and the crackdown have drawn international criticism of Iran’s rulers,
who in turn accuse the United States and some European countries of exploiting
the unrest to try to destabilize the Islamic Republic.
Iran
said last week it had arrested nine people from Germany, Poland, Italy, France,
the Netherlands, Sweden and other countries for their role in the protests.

Tech
Giants’ Inaction over Anti-Muslim Conspiracist and Racist Social Media Tide Creating
Ordeals: Centre for Countering Digital Hate Report
October 01, 2022
ISLAMABAD:
The
apparent unwillingness of social media tech-giants to permanently remove the
conspiracist and racist online content on different platforms that are whipping
up hatred against Muslims and their faith, has been creating inexplicable
problems for the community worldwide.
It
was also casting a chilling effect and prevented the Muslims from exercising
their freedom of religion and speech online, the Centre for Countering Digital
Hate (CCDH) said in its report.
The
big tech’s continued failure to act on anti-Muslim hate created an ecosystem
that restricted freedom of expression and pushes marginalised people off their
platforms, all while allowing white supremacist, extremist, and hateful content
to thrive and provide their shareholders with record profits, the report said.
The
CCDH is a US non-profit corporation headquartered in Washington DC, and CCDH UK
is a UK non-profit company headquartered in London.
According
to different reports, Twitter, Google and Meta launched special efforts as part
of a “shared commitment to counter hateful conduct online, however, they failed
to control these materials.
Twitter
failed to remove about 3.8 million anti-Muslim tweets (posted between Aug 19
and Aug 21) as it could only remove 15% of the tweets (0.57 million were taken
down out of the total one).
The
popular micro-blogging platform is fast becoming a primary source for the
proliferation of anti-hate content against Muslims and their faith.
Users
from the three countries including India generated 86 per cent of malicious
online content in the last few years that led to physical attacks on Muslims
and mosques across the globe, a study by Asian Peace said.
Now
approximately 55.12% of anti-Muslim hatred tweets originated from Indian social
media activists.
Researchers
have identified several key themes churned out from three countries which
included the association of Islam with terrorism, depiction of Muslims as
perpetrators of sexual violence, and declaring “halal” as an inhumane practice
that typifies the so-called “barbarity” of Islam.
On
the other hand, the UN had strongly encouraged the international community to
“take all necessary measures” to combat discrimination against Muslims while
warning that anti-Muslim hatred has reached “epidemic proportions.”
In
this connection, the UN had declared Anti-Islamophobia Day on March 15 due to
the efforts of Pakistan which was a laudable step however, more desired to be
done by the world and technological companies to stem surge of such trends
worldwide.
As
per a study by the Islamic Council of Victoria, Australia (ICV), a body
representing Muslims in the state of Victoria with an estimated 270,000 Muslims
as its member, found in its report that nearly four million anti-Muslim posts
made during a 24-month period between 2017 and 2019.
In
its report, ICV said that more causes for rise of such social media trends
included the war on terror, media reporting, and right-wing groups and
politicians across the globe, not just in the western countries but in places
such as Myanmar and India, that spread false and malicious rhetoric to whip up
anti-Muslim sentiment.
Also
read: WATCH: BJP leader openly confesses to killing five Muslims
“These
far-right groups are often networked and share information online to amplify
their messages. In fact, much of the worst forms of Islamophobia and
anti-Muslim incitement happens online,” it added.
Social
media companies are failing to act on 89% of posts containing anti-Muslim
hatred and Islamophobic content reported to them, according to Centre for
Countering Digital Hate (CCDH).
“This
report exposed that social media companies, including Twitter, Facebook,
Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, failed to act on 89% of posts containing
anti-Muslim hatred and Islamophobic content reported to them,” it says.
The
social media giants had stated that they would be resolute in their commitment
to ensure they were doing all they could to fight the hatred and extremism that
lead to violence.
“Once
again, their press releases prove to be nothing more than empty promises,” the
report said.
The
CCDH researchers reported 530 posts that contain disturbing, bigoted and
dehumanising content that target Muslims through racist caricatures, conspiracies
and false claims.
These
posts were viewed at least 25 million times. Much of the abusive content was
easily identifiable, and yet there was still inaction, it said.
Stating
that Instagram, TikTok and Twitter allow users to use hashtags such as #deathtoislam,
#islamiscancer, the report further said content spread using the hashtags
received at least 1.3 million impressions.
The
report, ‘Islamophobia in the Digital Age’, said that in the US, though,
Islamophobia has long been a problem, one that “was dramatically exacerbated by
the racist, conspiratorial and inflammatory rhetoric employed by Donald Trump.
As
for the UK, the prevalence of anti-Muslim tweets was attributed to a multitude
of factors, including the global reach of Trump’s hatred, the country’s
longstanding issues with the anti-migrant sentiment, and the casual racism of
former prime minister Boris Johnson, the report wrote.
The
2019 Christchurch Mosque attack and other such like incidents across the globe
were all illustrative of this vicious cycle. The incidents of anti-Muslim abuse
spiked upwards by a staggering 1300 % in New Zealand, and 600 % in the UK.
According
to "South Asia State of Minorities Report 2021" the phenomenon of the
spread of social media hatred against minorities had only worsened in Indian
society in recent years since, progressing up the UN’s hate speech chain from
the "bottom" level offensive or disturbing content to "top"
level incitement to hostility, discrimination and violence.
In
December 2019, the violent slogan "shoot dead the bastard traitors to the
nation" was popularised by a BJP leader in Delhi, as part of a wider
campaign in response to Muslim-led protests against India’s changes to its
citizenship law, widely seen as being discriminatory.
In
March 2020, as the Covid-19 pandemic took hold, India witnessed yet another
deluge of hate content and misinformation, falsely blaming the country’s
Muslims for the outbreak and calling for social and economic boycotts, and even
physical violence against them.
A
great deal of hate in India played out on social media. A study by Equality
Labs in 2019 revealed that Islamophobic content was the biggest source of hate
speech on Facebook and Twitter, amounting to 37 per cent of the content
reviewed.
Caste-based
hate speech is also common, accounting for 13 per cent of the Facebook content
reviewed by Equality Labs.
According
to Amnesty International, a total of 902 alleged hate crimes were reported in
India between September 2015 and June 2019, resulting in 303 deaths.
Of
the 902 documented instances, 621 were reported to have been motivated by
caste, with the victims of these being overwhelmingly Dalits (99.5%).
Of
the rest, 217 were reported to have been primarily motivated by religion, with
Muslims (89%) and Christians (8%) being the main targets.
Religiously
motivated hate crimes resulted in a total of 91 deaths, of which 87 per cent
were of Muslims. A total of 113 hate crimes were traced directly to the ruse of
cow protection.
A
study by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) noted that the production of media
content and distribution are increasingly combined and concentrated in the
hands of a few, and that many leading outlets at both the national and regional
levels were controlled by individuals with direct political ties to the BJP, or
by corporate conglomerates who have been openly supportive of the BJP.
Online
social networking platforms such as Facebook and Twitter have hundreds of
millions of Indian users, and also become important channels through which
anti-minority hate content is spread.

PFI
in Tamil Nadu is the face of growing Islamic fundamentalism
1st
October 2022
Chennai:
The now-banned Popular Front of India (PFI) became the face of growing Islamic
fundamentalism in Tamil Nadu and it is widely believed that it was involved in
several nefarious activities, including the murders of several Hindu activists,
across the southern state.
According
to Tamil Nadu police, several such murders committed in Tamil Nadu have been
linked to members of PFI and its earlier forms.
The
Coimbatore serial blasts of February 1998 that killed 58 people and injured 200
others, the 1993 RSS office blast in which 11 people lost their lives were all
the handiwork of outfits that were the earlier forms of PFI, including the
Al-Umma, working on the ideology of the Student Islamic Movement of India
(SIMI).
Taking
everybody by surprise, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on September 22
arrested 11 functionaries of PFI from different places in Tamil Nadu.
Those
arrested included A.M. Ismail, the national executive member of PFI who was
apprehended from Coimbatore. The Dindigul zonal president of the outfit, Yassar
Arafat, and the Cuddalore district secretary, Fayas Ahmad, were also among
those arrested.
Many
parts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, Coimbatore, Dindigul, Kanyakumari,
Tiruchi, Erode and Salem are considered to be the hub of PFI, which was formed
on November 22, 2006, in New Delhi with the merger of the National Development
Front (NDF), Karnataka Dignity Forum (KDF) and Manitha Neethi Pasare (MNP).
The
Popular Front of India may have professed that it was for the upliftment of
Dalits, Backward Classes and Muslims, in reality, the organisation was for the
Muslims only with a high dose of Islamic fundamentalism filled in it.
On
February 14, 1998, the Coimbatore suicide bomb blasts were carried out against
a public meeting of then Deputy Prime Minister and BJP leader L.K. Advani. The
serial bomb blasts were planned and executed by Al-Ummah which was led by S.A.
Basha, a timber merchant from Coimbatore who turned into an Islamic
fundamentalist. He was also involved in the attack on BJP leader Jana
Krishnamoorthy and Hindu Munnani leader Ramgopal. They were brutally assaulted
but survived.
Much
before the Coimbatore blasts, the RSS Tamil Nadu headquarters in Chennai was
bombed in which 11 people lost their lives and seven were grievously injured.
It was S.A. Basha who was again the main culprit in this attack.
These
are the two major issues on which the Popular Front of India could bank in
Tamil Nadu as the state was in a polarised mode between Hindus and Muslims.
Popular Front of India took this to the next step with several RSS, and Hindu
Munnani activists getting killed and grievously injured in these brutal
attacks.
Ramalingam,
a native of Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur district was killed on February 5, 2019,
allegedly by the Popular Front of India and Social Democratic Party of India
activists.
The
NIA in its charge sheet said that the reason for the murder was that he was involved
in their religious propagation activities. The PFI was to terrorize people
against anyone interfering in the work of the organisation and hence the
murder, it further said.
On
July 18, 2014, KPS Suresh Kumar, a Hindu Munnani leader who was the Tiruvallur
district president of the outfit was hacked to death by Popular Front
activists.
Chartered
Accountant Ramesh who was the state general secretary of the BJP was brutally
killed by Popular Front activists on July 19, 2013, by banging his head on the
wall and breaking his arms and legs, and later slitting his throat.
Police
found 23 cuts and a mutilated head.
According
to a senior officer with the Tamil Nadu police, around 130 Hindu activists were
killed by Islamist fundamentalist outfits in Tamil Nadu over the years with the
Popular Front being the main culprit in all the recent murders.
It
may be noted that the Manitha Neethi Pasarai or Human Justice Forum which had
merged into Popular Front of India when it was formed along with the National
Development Front (NDF) of Kerala and Karnataka Dignity Forum (KDF) of
Karnataka was involved in several attacks and killings in Tamil Nadu.
V.
Ratnasabapathy, an Assistant Commissioner of the Intelligence department of the
Tamil Nadu police had reported in August 2006 that Manitha Neethi Pasarai had
terror links.
Five
youths belonging to the outfit were arrested a month before with IED explosives
and weapons and on interrogation, they had revealed the plot to blow up
Coimbatore General Hospital, Collectorate, and even the district superintendent
of the police office in Coimbatore.
The
MNP later leaked out information that of the five, two were neo-converts at
their centre, Arivagam in Muthuthevanpatti near Theni.
In
2020 Tamil Nadu police arrested 35 youths from Periyapattanam near Coimbatore
for spreading hatred and religious extremism among Muslim youths in
radicalizing camps. Police said that they were members of the Popular Front of
India.

Hyderabad:
Intelligence eye on Pak-based suspect helped bust terror plot?
Mir
Alamgir
2nd
October 2022
Hyderabad:
The counter intelligence wing of the Telangana police was constantly tracking
the city-based terror suspect Farhatullah Ghauri, now believed to be operating
in Pakistan, and reportedly stumbled upon a conversation of his with Mohd
Zahed, who arrested on Sunday along with Maaz and Abdul Sami.
Zahed
through social media platforms was allegedly in touch with some persons from
Pakistan and Dubai for some weeks. He was reportedly planning to recruit cadres
for LeT (Lashkar-e-Taiba) and Jaish-e-Mohammed operations in the country,
police sources from Hyderabad said.
Farhatullah
is an alleged terrorist recruiter and financer for a Pakistan based terror
group Jaish-e- Mohammed (JeM). Farhatullah Ghauri is listed among the 38 individuals
as a terrorist by the Ministry of Home Affairs under the Unlawful Activities
(Prevention) Act, 1967 (amended in 2019).
Since
the beginning of this year, the Indian intelligence -agencies both external and
internal – have been closely monitoring the growth and plan of Farhatullah.
Having lived in Kurmaguda of old city Hyderabad, the immediate trigger for the
counter-intelligence agencies to mount surveillance on Zahed was his alleged
close contacts with Farhatullah.
Intelligence
agencies from Hyderabad suspected Farhatullah Ghauri would tap his old contacts
or sources to recruit people for his sabotage plans.
Shahid
Bilal, brother of Zahed who was alleged involvement in terror cases in
Hyderabad, including the Begumpet Task Force office blast on Dushera in 2005,
and other cases, led to Zahed always being kept under surveillance of
intelligence agencies.
According
to a report by ‘Logically’, an artificial intelligence startup, Farhatullah was
using a network of accounts on Facebook, Telegram and YouTube to call on
Muslims in India to “revolt” against the country. He created three Telegram
channels, two Facebook accounts and three YouTube channel and operated by his
group
“The
terrorist propaganda has circulated across other encrypted messaging channels on
Telegram, including those affiliated with Islamabad-backed proxy terror groups
claiming to operate in the Kashmir region, such as the Hizbul Mujahideen (HM)
and The Resistance Front (TRF),” Logically said in a statement.
It
further said that a closer scrutiny of the amplification patterns of the videos
on Facebook since January 2022 suggests a concerted attempt by malicious actors
to post the videos in Facebook groups and pages dedicated to socialism, Islam,
and minority rights.
“These
groups are frequented by larger, more mainstream audiences of domestic users
who are critical of the BJP-ruled government,” said the report.
It
further stated that these coordinated online campaigns coincide with off-line
incidents of communal violence in the country, revealing how the terrorist
groups abroad are using major social media platforms to exploit domestic
tensions and radicalize the minority population.
“There
are explicit calls by Farhatullah Ghauri to Indian Muslims to revolt and take
up arms against the Indian state. Troublingly, an analysis into the spread of
the videos on Facebook between January 1, 2022, and July 1, 2022, via
CrowdTangle, a social media analysis tool, reveals that videos from Ghauri’s
network were amplified across several mainstream Facebook groups and pages
devoted to Islam, socialism and minority rights in a bid to help the extremist
content accrue a larger audience among a user base critical of the ruling
political party, BJP,” the report mentioned.
Also
known as Abu Sufiyan, Ghauri is originally from Kurmaguda area of Hyderabad and
primarily known for being a terrorist financier. He fled to Saudi Arabia in
1994 and finally settled in Pakistan in 2015. Fahathullah Ghauri is allegedly
involvement in several cases in the country for planning and facilitating a
series of terror attacks in the country, the report mentioned.

Communist
Party of India (Maoist) condemns ban on PFI
Mir
Alamgir
2nd
October 2022
The
Communist Party of India (Maoist) condemned the ban of the Popular Front of
India (PFI) by the Union Government and stated that the pan India ban on PFI
and its eight affiliate organizations is draconian and anti-democratic.
In
a press release Abhay, spokes persons Central Committee CPI (Maoist) said,
“through imposing ban the Brahmanic Hindutva BJP once again criminalized the
Muslim community”.
NIA
made searches in 11 states of the country in a gap of four days from 25 to 29
September in which it arrested over 100 and detained over 250 persons belonging
to the PFI. The raids caused a lot of agony and discomfort to the arrested
persons and their family members.
“The
government’s logic for enforcing the ban revolves around three reasons. One is
that the PFI and its eight affiliate organizations are engaged in “violent
terrorist activities”. The second is that PFI is establishing a reign of terror
and disrupting the “peace” of the country. And the third is that the PFI is a
threat to the national security of the nation. “All these logics are only to
out rightly curtail and decimate the forces. Opposing Brahmanical Hindutva
fascism,” CPI (Maoist) spokesperson stated.
He
further said there is no denying the fact that all parliamentary political
parties have established equivalence in the understanding Muslim community as a
vote bank community. The political, social and economic development of the
Muslim community has hardly got reflection in the political conscience of the
political parties.
“The
fascist vigilante forces like Gau Rakshaks, Anti-Romeo squad and Hate-speech
mongers are getting legitimacy and support of the government. In the last eight
years in the name of Gau Rakshas (Cow protection) fascist vigilante groups have
lynched Muslims in broad daylight. The properties of Muslims are considered
illegal and confiscated or razed through bulldozers. Since it came to power,
the BJP is consciously instigating ‘Islamic phobia’ and there is extreme
ghettoization of Muslims in India,” he said through a press release.
He
further stated the ban of PFI is a design by the fascist BJP for their
political and electoral gains in the upcoming elections to various states as
well as in the 2024 General Elections. Through this ban, BJP wants to
communalize elections and in the name of fighting the so-called ‘Islamic
terror’ wants to centralise Hindu votes.
“The
fascist Indian Brahmanic Hindutva State has not imposed ban only on PFI, but a
few years back and in the last few months, it imposed a ban on democratic mass
organizations and even social media accounts and YouTube channels that are
critical of the BJP government has faced the wrath of the ban. Ban culture has
become a political weapon to terrorize the opposition and dissent voices,” he
added

Turkey
said on Sunday it had “neutralized,” the term its defense ministry usually
employs for killed, some 30 members of the banned Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK)
in separate cross-border operations in Iraq and Syria.
The

Asos region, 140 kilometers (90 miles) into northern Iraq, and another seven in
northern Syria.
Turkey
regularly carries out cross-border air strikes, often with armed drones, in

an ideal platform for artists to gain international experience.
Al
Hashemi will showcase her artwork entitled ‘Camouflage of the Camels 1.618
Missing Obelisk,’ an ongoing art project from the series ‘Camouflage of the
Camel.’
Inspired
by ancient Egyptian artifacts, Al Hashemi’s artwork uses neglected camel skins
which she has covered with abstract geometric models, similar to the rocks
scattered in the desert.
Her
artwork uses the skin of camels as an artistic pillar to reflect camouflage
with an exceptional artistic vision.
el
Seed will also present a collection of his signature artworks which are a blend
of traditional Arabic calligraphy with graffiti, an art form he calls
‘calligraffiti.’
Noura

unique perspective of its creator, making every piece unique.”
Al
Hashemi is among the most prominent female voices in the UAE and the Arab
region. Known for her distinguished style, her artworks are inspired by her
environment and the transformations that took place in the country in the wake
of structural and industrial developments.

inspired by nature. Her art is characterized by the elements of Arab identity
that interact with other dazzling styles to create unique artistic
compositions.

works of el Seed are displayed around the world decorating the roofs and
facades of buildings in a number of cities, including Cairo, where his
paintings reflected the aesthetic and the splendor of the special artistic
identity of Arabic calligraphy.
Since

Saudi
Arabia frees detained Iranian pilgrim after mediation by Iraq, Oman
Syed
Zafar Mehdi
02.10.2022
An
Iranian pilgrim arrested by Saudi authorities during the Hajj pilgrimage in
July has been released by Riyadh following mediation by Iraq and Oman.
The
news was delivered to Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian by his
Iraqi and Omani counterparts in separate calls on Saturday, according to a
statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on Sunday.
An
Iranian national, Khalil Dardmand, was arrested in mid-July for allegedly
tweeting an image of slain Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani near the
Kaaba.
The
image was tweeted on June 30. His last tweet, on July 13, showed pilgrims
circumambulating the Kaaba.
There
was, however, no official comment from Saudi authorities about the Iranian national's
arrest, despite repeated calls by Tehran for his release.
On
August 5, almost three weeks after the arrest, Iran's top diplomat
Amir-Abdollahian asked his Iraqi counterpart, Fuad Hussein, to mediate in the
matter.
Iraq
has been hosting tension-easing talks between the two estranged Gulf neighbors
since April last year, with five rounds of talks so far yielding significant
results.
On
August 18, Iran's foreign minister also raised the matter with his Omani
counterpart Sayyid Badr al-Busaidi, urging him to press the Saudi authorities
for the pilgrim's release.
Oman
is among Iran's all-weather allies in the region and has in the past mediated
in disputes between Tehran and other countries, including the US and UK.
The
issue had in the past few months generated tremendous outcry in Iran, with one
of the top lawmakers warning of "counter-measures" if the pilgrim was
not freed.
Saudi
Arabia severed its diplomatic relations with Iran after Saudi diplomatic
missions in the Iranian cities of Tehran and Mashhad were attacked by angry
mobs in January 2016 over the execution of a prominent Shia cleric in Saudi
Arabia, Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr.
Later
that year, Iran refused to send its pilgrims for the annual Hajj pilgrimage,
accusing Saudi Arabia of "sabotage."
The
last few rounds of talks, brokered by Baghdad, have eased tensions between the
two countries, with Amir-Abdollahian in July hinting that the talks would
advance from the security to the political level.
Speculation
has been rife about a possible meeting at the level of foreign ministers.
However, no side has confirmed it yet.

As
truce ends, Yemen warns oil companies to leave Saudi Arabia, UAE
02
October 2022
Yemen's
Armed Forces have put oil companies operating in Saudi Arabia and the United
Arab Emirates on notice, warning that they could be targeted as long as Riyadh
and its allies fail to commit to a proper ceasefire.
Tweeting
on Sunday, the Armed Forces' spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree said
Yemeni troops were providing the oil companies with a window of opportunity to
leave the Saudi and Emirati soils "fast."
The
Saudi kingdom and its allies, most notably the United Arab Emirates, have been
waging a war against Yemen since March 2015, trying, in vain, to restore
Yemen's power to its former Riyadh-friendly officials. The military campaign,
which has been enjoying unstinting arms, logistical, and political support from
the United States, has killed hundreds of thousands of people, and turned the
entire Yemen into the scene of the world's worst humanitarian crisis.
A
temporary United Nations-mediated ceasefire took effect between the warring
sides in April and has been renewed twice ever since. The truce, however,
expired on Sunday amid the invading coalition's constant violations of the
agreement and its refusal to properly lift a siege that it has been enforcing
against Yemen simultaneously with the war.
"The
warning," Saree said, "stands as long as the countries that make up
the invading American-Saudi coalition refuse to adhere to a ceasefire that
allows the Yemeni people to exploit their oil wealth...."
Also
on Sunday, Hans Grundberg, the United Nations' special envoy for Yemen,
confirmed failure of efforts aimed at extending the truce.
"The
UN special envoy regrets that an agreement has not been reached today, as an
extended and expanded truce would provide additional critical benefits to the
population," a statement said.

Two
Militants Killed By Sindh Police Had Links With Islamic State: Official
03
OCT 2022
Two
militants killed by the Sindh Police's Counter Terrorism Department had links
with the outlawed militant Islamic State Khorasan group, which had planned a
suicide attack during a major religious procession in the city.
Deputy
Inspector General of Police (DIG) Asif Aijaz Shaikh told the media that on
Saturday night they killed two militants on the outskirts of the city in an
encounter, in which four police officials were also injured.
Shaikh
said after liaison with the Balochistan Counter Terrorism Department and

Pak cabinet approves legal action against Imran Khan over leaked 'foreign
conspiracy' cypher audios: Report
Oct
2, 2022
ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan's Cabinet on Sunday formally decided to launch legal action against
former premier Imran Khan over his audio leaks in which he could allegedly be
heard discussing the controversial US cypher and how to exploit it to portray
his ouster in April as a conspiracy, according to a media report.
Taking
notice of the leaks, the Cabinet on September 30 formed a committee over the
audios on September 30.
The
committee on Saturday recommended legal action over the audio leaks purportedly
featuring Khan and others.
“This
is a matter of national security, which has serious implications for national
interests and a legal action in this regard is vital,” recommended the Cabinet
committee.
The
Cabinet approved the summary through circulation on Sunday, the Geo News
reported.
The
Federal Investigation Agency will be given the task to probe into the US cypher
and the audios.
In
the two audio leaks, Khan, ex-minister Asad Umar, and then-principle secretary
Azam Khan could allegedly be heard discussing the US cypher in a meeting and
how to use it in their interest.
In
the first audio that was leaked on Wednesday, Khan was reportedly talking to
Azam and directing him to play with the cypher.
In
the second audio clip, three Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party leaders,
including Umar, Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Azam could be heard talking about the
American cypher with Khan, the party's chairman.
US
Assistant Secretary of State for Central and South Asia Donald Lu is the
central figure in Khan's claims about a US-backed regime-change conspiracy.
Khan
accused Lu of threatening Pakistan's former ambassador to the US, Asad Majeed,
that a failure to remove Khan through a no-confidence vote would herald
“consequences” for Pakistan and vice versa.
Khan
was ousted from power in April after losing a no-confidence vote in his
leadership, which he alleged was part of a US-led conspiracy targeting him
because of his independent foreign policy decisions on Russia, China and
Afghanistan.
Khan
used the cypher to portray his downfall in April as a conspiracy by the US and
widely use this narrative in public rallies. He also calls the current
government “imported”.
The
69-year-old cricketer-turned-politician is the only Pakistani Prime Minister to
be ousted in a no-confidence vote in Parliament.
The
US has denied any role in his ouster.
Meanwhile,
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Saturday
expressed her discontent with the government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz
Sharif over its failure to arrest Khan despite a “litany of charges” that “merited
his detention”.
She
asked the government to carry out a raid at Khan's Bani Gala residence to
recover the “stolen copy of the cypher”.
Finance
Minister Ishaq Dar said that Khan was “power hungry” and wanted to rule the
country at “any cost”.

Imran
Khan should be tried under Official Secrets Act : Maryam Nawaz
Oct
2, 2022
LAHORE:
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz PML-N leaders said that PTI Chairman Imran Khan
should be tried under the Official Secrets Act for stealing a cipher from the
Prime Minister's Office (PMO), local media reported.
In
a press conference, they said that Parliament will decide to invoke Article 6
against Imran Khan and his abettors after consultations. They said that audio
leaks of the Prime Minister's Office are a serious security breach. They said
that Imran Khan had taken away the cipher from the Prime Minister's Office by
concealing it in his diary, The News reported.
PML-N
Vice President Maryam Nawaz said in the US, law enforcement agencies raided
Trump's house and similarly, it should also be done here, and Banigala should
be searched for the recovery of cipher.
Maryam
said that she was surprised at the country's system because the person (Imran),
who should be in jail, was roaming free. She said that Imran Khan was
deliberately making the appointment of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) controversial
by talking about this issue in his public meetings.
Declaring
Imran Khan as the biggest liar in the history of Pakistan, Maryam said if she
starts exposing him, it will take hours.
"Many
elected prime ministers and dictators came but the label of treason only suits
Imran Khan," said Maryam.

WASHINGTON:
Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa called on the UN secretary general’s
military adviser in New York on Saturday.
An
ISPR press release said the two generals discussed “matters of mutual interest,
overall regional security situation and the natural disaster caused by recent
floods” across Pakistan. The press note said the army chief was on “an official
visit to the United States”.
Gen
Bajwa is to begin his formal engagements in the US capital on Monday (today)
with a series of meetings with senior defence and intelligence officials.
In
his meetings with Gen Diop, the Chief of Army Staff “appreciated the role of
the office of UN’s military adviser in promoting UN core values” during major
world crises, the ISPR said.
The
adviser expressed his grief over the devastation caused by floods in Pakistan,
offered condolences to the victim families and assured them of the UN’s support
in rehabilitation, the statement added.
Gen
Diop acknowledged Pakistan’s contribution in UN peacekeeping missions and
achievements in counterterrorism, his office said.
The
meeting happened a day after the United Nations confirmed the martyrdom of a
Pakistani peacekeeper, Havaldar Babar Siddique, in the Democratic Republic of
Congo.
Pakistan
is the sixth largest contributor of troops to the UN peacekeeping force. The
country deployed its first- ever contingent in Congo in 1960 and has
participated in 41 missions in 23 countries.
Ties
improving gradually
In
Washington, Gen Bajwa’s five-day official visit is seen as part of a renewed
effort by both sides to improve bilateral ties.
The
army chief is scheduled to hold a series of meetings with US officials at the
Pentagon and at Langley, the headquarters of the Central Intelligence Agency
(CIA).
Diplomatic
sources in Washington point out that US-Pakistan relations have been improving
gradually since Aug 2, when a US drone assassinated Al Qaeda leader Ayman al
Zawahiri in Kabul.
Media
reports claim that Pakistan helped the United States in locating the Al Qaeda
chief. Islamabad, however, has rejected such suggestions as incorrect.
Gen
Bajwa, who is expected to retire next month, may make a farewell visit to the
US Central Command, which deals directly with both Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Official
sources in Washington said that the visit was long overdue and had no
connection with the political situation in Pakistan.
Gen
Bajwa was expected in Washington early this year, but the visit was postponed
because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The visit was rescheduled for
March-April, but the change of government in Islamabad further delayed it.
“Finally,
he is in the United States at the invitation of Defence Secretary Lloyd
Austin,” one of the sources said.

JUI-F
on fence as Bizenjo awaits response to his coalition offer
Saleem
Shahid
October
3, 2022
QUETTA:
Days after it was invited to join the Balochistan government, Jamiat
Ulema-i-Islam (Fazl) is still mulling over the offer and yet to make a final
decision.
The
party was invited by Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo a week
ago when he had visited the residence of JUI-F provincial chief Maulana Abdul
Wasey.
The
party had shown willingness to be a part of the government at its own
conditions and sought some important ministries.
After
the visits, Maulana Wasey had said that JUI-F’s position on the matter would
become clear within 48 hours. On the other hand, a senior party leader, Maulana
Abdul Wahid Siddique, clearly stated that the JUI-F was going to join the
coalition.
However,
as the party was still undecided even after a week, political observers say it
appeared in no haste to join the coalition government.
Discussions
in political circles link the indecision to Mr Bizenjo’s meeting with former
chief minister Jam Kamal Khan to resolve differences which developed after a
no-confidence motion was moved against Mr Bizenjo by Jam Kamal. However, the
motion failed as it didn’t have the requisite number of signatories needed to
table it.
In
the meantime, Mr Bizenjo also met BNP-Mengal’s chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal and
offered him to join the coalition.
Accepting
the offer, Mr Mengal said the BNP-M and the JUI-F would jointly take a decision
as both parties were in no hurry to join the coalition.
He
said the BNP-M’s central committee would make a decision in this regard.
Later,
Mr Mengal held a meeting with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and discussed
the offer.
Political
observers are of the view the chief minister is facing the consequences of his
meeting with Jam Kamal Khan as it had clearly miffed the ‘friendly’ opposition,
of which JUI-F and BNP-M are a part of.
Moreover,
the offers did not sit well with some members of the ruling Balochistan Awami
Party as they feared the new induction would deprive them of their ministries
in the provincial cabinet.
As
Mr Bizenjo awaits a decision from JUI-F and BNP-M, reports suggest that he
might be running short on time as some BAP members, who were already with
former chief minister Jam Kamal, were considering changing the parliamentary
leader — the chief minister — in the Balochistan Assembly.

At
least 92 people killed in Iran crackdown on Mahsa Amini protests: Norway-based
NGO
02 October,
2022
At
least 92 people have been killed nationwide in Iran's crackdown on two weeks of
protests that erupted following the death of Mahsa Amini who had been arrested
by the morality police, the Norway-based Iran Human Rights (IHR) NGO said on
Sunday.
And
at least 41 people were separately killed by the Iranian security forces in
clashes that erupted last week in the city of Zahedan in the southeastern
province of Sistan-Baluchistan, it said.
“The
killing of protesters in Iran, especially in Zahedan, amounts to crimes against
humanity,” said IHR director Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam.
“The
international community has a duty to investigate this crime and prevent
further crimes from being committed by the Islamic Republic.”
Its
previous toll had said 83 people were confirmed to have been killed in the
protests that have shaken Iran since the death of Amini, amid continued severe
disruptions to the Internet.
But
in what IHR described as “Zahedan’s bloody Friday,” the NGO also accused the
security forces of “bloodily repressing” a protest that erupted on Friday after
prayers in the city.
It
said that the protest was sparked by accusations that a police chief in the
port city of Chabahar, also in Sistan-Baluchistan province, had raped a
15-year-old girl from the Sunni Baluch minority.
The
identities of those killed had been confirmed by the regional NGO Baluch
Activists Campaign (BAC), it added, saying this meant at least 133 people had
been killed in total during protests in Iran over the last fortnight.
Accounts
posted on social media at the time had spoken of dozens of dead in Zahedan on
Friday while images had shown overwhelmed hospitals and bloodied corpses.
Some
reports have said protesters sought to take control of certain streets but this
is not possible to confirm.
Neighboring
Pakistan, Sistan-Baluchistan is one of Iran's poorest regions and home to the
Baluch minority who mostly adhere to Sunni Islam and not the Shiism that
dominates Iran.
Activists
have over the last months complained that Baluch convicts were being executed
in disproportionate numbers as hangings surged in the Islamic Republic.

Hamas:
Palestinian people’s revolution will persist until goals achieved
02
October 2022
The
Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has hailed the latest attack on two
Israeli vehicles, including a settler bus, in the occupied West Bank, saying
the revolution of the Palestinian people will persist until their goals are
achieved.
Hamas
spokesman Hazem Qassem made the remarks in a statement on Sunday, after a
shooting incident near the town of Beit Furik, east of the city of Nablus, left
an Israeli settler injured.
“The
Palestinian people are leading a major revolution that can never subside unless
our people’s goals are achieved and the [occupying regime] and its settlers are
removed from our land,” he said, the Palestinian Information Center reported.
Qassem
further noted that the shooting operation in Nablus coincided with the break-ins
by Israeli settlers at the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the occupied al-Quds.
“So
we consider such act of resistance a natural response to [Israeli regime’s]
crimes against the [al-Aqsa] mosque,” he added.
An
Israeli settler was reportedly wounded in a Palestinian shooting operation
Sunday morning that targeted his vehicle on a road between Beit Furik and the
Elon Moreh settlement on the outskirts of Nablus.
Palestinian
resistance fighters also opened fire at an Israeli bus traveling on the same
road before withdrawing from the area. The vehicle and bus sustained some
damage.
Following
the incident, Israeli forces closed the Huwara and Beit Furik checkpoints in
southern Nablus and launched a manhunt for the shooters.
Israeli
forces have been recently conducting near-nightly raids and killings in the
northern occupied West Bank, mainly in the cities of Jenin and Nablus, where
new groups of Palestinian resistance fighters have been formed.
More
than 150 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in the
Israeli-occupied territories since the start of the year, including 51 in the
besieged Gaza Strip during Israel’s three-day assault in August.
More
than 30 of those killed were either from Jenin or were killed in the Jenin
region.
The
Israeli regime has also recently ramped up incursions into the al-Aqsa Mosque
compound in the occupied Old City of al-Quds, with Hamas warning that such
infringements upon the holy site could lead to “explosions” in the region.

IRGC
Commander Warns of Devastating Response to US, UK, S. Arabia Hostile Moves
2022-October-2
Speaking
at a ceremony in the capital Tehran on Sunday as he addressed the root causes
of the recent unrest in Iran, Major General Salami warned "foreign powers
against plotting against the Islamic Republic", stressing that enemies
have launched "a political and media campaign to make up for their
failures".
“We
warn our enemies, America, England, Saudi Arabia, and those who are trying to
harm our country through destructive and vicious media outlets that we will
trounce you. There is no way to infiltrate into this land,” he stated.
“I
can see with my own eyes and say that [the United States of] America has
failed. All evil and wicked parties of the world have, therefore, come together
to compensate for their defeats. They have embarked on a political and media
campaign [against Iran],” the top commander said
“One
could see the manifestation of enemies’ onslaught aimed at making up for their
humiliating defeats. They do not want to allow the existence of a powerful,
influential, and sovereign country ruled by Islam," Maj. Gen. Salami
added.
“Americans
view our regional clout as a major obstacle to their political, security,
economic and cultural hegemony in the Muslim world, which is the most important
part of the world,” the IRGC chief commander pointed out.
He
added that the US statesmen are trying to stop Iran's influence in the Middle
East because they want to prolong their stay in the region, induce the nations,
impose their diktats on them and advance their agendas.
“Americans
want to mobilize our youths against the Islamic establishment by means of
trickery and deception. This is the last policy of enemies. They are betting on
a combination of anything employed before. But, we have the experience and that
would be enough to know enemies. Lack of knowledge is the cause of failure,
while knowledge always ensures victory,” Salami said.
“The
few number of Iranian youths wreaking havoc on streets across the country has
actually been deceived,” the military official continued, noting that Iranians
know how to defeat their enemies.
The
IRGC chief commander stressed that Iranians from all strata of the society are
strong, prudent, and against foreign powers’ conspiracies.
He
vowed revenge and massive retaliation against enemy actions, whether it be the
downing of an unmanned aerial vehicle or a terrorist attack on a police station
in the southeastern city of Zahedan in Sistan and Baluchestan Province.
Protests
have broken out in several Iranian cities over the death of Mahsa Amini, a
young Iranian woman who died at the hospital a few days after collapsing at a
police station in the capital Tehran.
A
full range of top Iranian officials have vowed thorough investigations into the
case, including the president, parliament speaker, interior minister,
prosecutor-general and police chief of the capital.
In
recent days, Iranian officials have blamed the United States and the European
Unions for meddling in Iran's internal affairs over the death of Mahsa Amini.
They advised the US and its allies against "opportunism and
instrumentalization of the issue of human rights" by misusing the
incident.

Iran
Deplores Israeli Policy of Ethnic Cleansing
2022-October-2
Iran’s
permanent representative to the United Nations Office and other international
organizations in Geneva Ali Bahraini made the remarks at a Human Rights
Council’s general debate on the human rights situation in Palestine and other
occupied Arab territories.
He
emphasized that Palestinians are subject to long-standing gross violations of
human rights under the rule of a military apartheid system.
“The
use of lethal military force against Palestinians, their persecution, ethnic
cleansing, expansion of illegal settlements and collective punishments have
become a permanent practice and deliberate repressive policy of the Zionist
regime since the very beginning of the occupation of Palestine,” the diplomat
added.
He
went on to refer to the two key elements of a report compiled by the
Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the crimes committed by
Israel in Palestinian lands, saying that “permanent occupation” and “lack of
accountability” can best explain why the Middle East region has been beset with
decades of insecurity and violence.
Bahraini
then lambasted the deceitful behavior of the so-called advocates of human
rights, emphasizing that their silence on the Israeli regime’s actions across
the occupied Palestinian territories is highly hypocritical.
“These
countries are actually complicit in war crimes and crimes against humanity
being committed in occupied Palestine, and share responsibility for crimes
being perpetrated by the [Zionist] regime military apartheid in Palestine,”
Iran’s permanent representative continued.
Bahraini
noted that debates on Israeli crimes should focus on the agenda of the Human
Rights Council, remain a true manifestation of global demands for realization
of truth and justice for Palestinians, express solidarity for the cause of free
Palestine, and become a clear manifestation of a globally collective demand to
hold the occupying apartheid regime of Israel accountable for its violation of
international principles and humanitarian rights.
The
remarks came days after a Palestinian boy died of heart failure while being
chased by Israeli soldiers in the occupied West Bank.
Israeli
forces have recently been conducting overnight raids and committing murder in
the West Bank. At least 150 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli troops in
the occupied territories since the start of the year, including 50 in Gaza
during Israel’s three-day onslaught in August.

Killed in Terror Attacks in Southeast Iran, Security Forces Keep Control of
Strategic City
2022-October-1
Following
a terrorist attack on a police station in Zahedan on Friday, an armed group
gathered near the Makki Mosque and started shooting and hurled Molotov
cocktails, which prompted the security forces to immediately get to the scene.
The
IRGC commander, Ali Mousavi, was injured by a bullet in the chest and was taken
to the hospital. But he succumbed to his wound.
State
TV reported armed separatist terrorists had concealed themselves among
worshippers at the nearby Makki Mosque.
Meanwhile,
Sistan and Baluchestan’s Governor Hossein Modarres Khiabani confirmed at least
19 people, including police members, were killed and 20 injured in the
terrorist attack at the police station.
"A
number of rioters affiliated with terrorist and separatist groups, "with
known identities" attacked the police station and threw stones and opened
fire, provoking a severe reaction by police forces, he noted.
The
terrorists also set ablaze an emergency station and a bank, among other places,
in the city but their attempts to continue rioting failed following the timely
presence of security forces.
Meantime,
a provincial council in task of security, political and social affairs said
that the armed group opened fire and planned to disrupt security in Zahedan but
they failed thanks to the vigilance and due measures by the city's security
forces. It added that the situation is now under control and calm is restored
to the city.
In
a statement, the 'Jaish Al-Zulm' terror group claimed responsibility for the
attacks in Zahedan.
Iranian
authorities said some of the elements behind the violence had been identified
and arrested.
One
of those arrested at the site, identified as Gorgij, recounted the
circumstances surrounding the shooting attack.
He
said a Peugeot 206 stopped near the police station prior to the attack and
distributed arms among a group of people, including himself, who had gathered
there.
The
detainee added he took a sidearm but he tried to flee the scene as the
terrorists started to shoot at the police station.
An
informed security source also confrimed that two terrorists involved in the
terror attacks in the city of Zahedan were killed during the incident.
“The
two dead have been identified as Abdolmajid Rigi and Yasser Shahbakhsh, who
were killed in yesterday’s incident in Zahedan,” the source said, adding, “They
intended to incite people, vandalize public property and kill ordinary people
as well as police forces."

Two
Palestinians shot dead by Israeli army in West Bank raid: Health ministry
03
October, 2022
Two
Palestinians were shot dead Monday by Israeli forces during an operation near
Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian health ministry said.
The
ministry was informed of the “martyrdom of two citizens, after the occupation
opened fire on them, near Jalazun refugee camp,” it said in a statement.
Details on their identities were not immediately available.
The
Israeli army meanwhile said it had “neutralized” two “suspects” after they
“attempted to carry out a ramming attack against IDF soldiers.”
It
came a day after several Israelis, including one soldier, were injured in a
spate of security incidents across the occupied West Bank, raising tensions.
The
army also said it had arrested 16 people during overnight raids across the West
Bank.
Last
Wednesday, four Palestinians were killed in the northern city of Jenin
following a raid in which Israel said it targeted "two suspects involved
in a number of recent shooting attacks.”
Since
March, Israel has launched hundreds of operations in the occupied West Bank in
pursuit of alleged militants, often concentrated in Jenin and nearby Nablus.
The
raids have sparked clashes that have killed dozens of Palestinians.

US
denies link between Iran’s release of Americans and frozen funds held abroad
03
October, 2022
The
United States on Sunday rejected Iranian reports that Tehran’s release of two
detained Americans will lead to the unfreezing of Iranian funds abroad.
Baquer
Namazi, 85, was permitted to leave Iran for medical treatment abroad, and his
son Siamak, 50, was released from detention in Tehran, the United Nations said
on Saturday.
Now
Iran is awaiting the release of about $7 billion in funds frozen abroad,
Iranian state media said Sunday.
“With
the finalization of negotiations between Iran and the United States to release
the prisoners of both countries, $7 billion of Iran's blocked resources will be
released,” the state news agency IRNA said.
But
the US State Department dismissed any such link as “categorically false.”
“Baquer
Namazi was unjustly detained in Iran and then not permitted to leave the
country after serving his sentence, despite his repeated requirement for urgent
medical attention,” a department spokesperson said.
“We
understand that the lifting of the travel ban and his son’s furlough were
related to his medical requirement,” this official said.
Billions
of dollars in Iranian funds have been frozen in a number of countries -- notably
China, South Korea and Japan -- since the United States reimposed biting
sanctions on the Islamic republic in 2018 after unilaterally withdrawing from
Tehran's nuclear deal with world powers.
Tehran
has accused Seoul of holding $7 billion of its funds “hostage,” repeatedly
calling on South Korean authorities to release it.
IRNA
on Sunday said that “Washington is pursuing at the same time the release of its
citizens detained in Tehran and the release of Iranian funds in South Korea.”
The
development comes as on-off talks have been underway since April 2021 to revive
the 2015 deal that gave Iran much-needed sanctions relief in return for curbs
on its nuclear program.
Iran
has repeatedly called for the lifting of sanctions, as well as guarantees that
the United States will not again pull out of a revived deal.
Baquer
Namazi is a former UNICEF official who was detained in February 2016 when he
went to Iran to press for the release of his son Siamak, who had been arrested
in October of the previous year.
Both
were convicted of espionage in October 2016 and sentenced to 10 years in

Iranian-American
held in Iran allowed to leave, son freed from detention: UN
02
October, 2022
The
United Nations said Saturday that an Iranian-American blocked from leaving Iran
can now depart and that his son was released from detention.
The
United States has been pressing for the release of these two men and two other
Americans amid efforts to revive the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and major
western powers.
After
an appeal from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Baquer Namazi, 85, “has
been permitted to leave Iran for medical treatment abroad,” and his son Siamak
Namazi, 50, has been released from detention, UN spokesman Stephan Dujarric
said.
Baquer
Namazi is a former UNICEF official who was detained in February 2016 when he
went to Iran to press for the release of his son Siamak, who had been arrested
in October of the previous year.
Both
were convicted of espionage in October 2016 and sentenced to ten years in
prison.
The
father was released on medical leave in 2018 and had been serving his sentence
under house arrest.
The
Namazis’ lawyer Jared Genser confirmed the news of the release and said the
younger Namazi is now at home with his parents in Tehran for the first time in
seven years.
“While
these are critical first steps, we will not rest until the Namazis can all
return to the United States and their long nightmare has finally come to an
end,” Genser said in a statement.
In
June of this year the younger Namazi published a column in The New York Times
in which he called on President Joe Biden to strike a prisoner swap deal with
Iran, even though talks on reviving the nuclear deal were at an impasse.
The
other two Americans held in Iran that Washington wants released are
environmentalist Morad Tahbaz, 66, and businessman Emad Sharqi, 57.
The
drive to salvage the 2015 nuclear deal resumed in late November of last year,
after talks were suspended in June as Iran elected ultraconservative President
Ebrahim Raisi.
The
2015 deal -- agreed by Iran, the United States, China, Russia, Britain, France
and Germany -- offered Tehran sanctions relief in exchange for curbs on its
nuclear program.

Swiss
police violently disperse anti-Iran protest at embassy
October
02, 2022
BERLIN:
Swiss police used rubber bullets to disperse protesters in front of the Iranian
Embassy in Bern after two men climbed over the embassy’s fence and pulled down
the Iranian flag from a flagpole in the yard.
Police
said late Saturday that nobody was injured and that the “large crowd” of
protesters was dispersed after the use of rubber bullets. The two protesters
who entered the embassy’s grounds were detained, according to police in the
Swiss capital.
Police
said they used rubber bullets after several other protesters at the
unauthorized demonstration tried following the two men who had first entered
the embassy’s yard and also attempted to access the premises.
It
wasn’t immediately clear if more protesters were detained.
Thousands

Arab
envoys urge UK’s Truss not to move embassy to occupied al-Quds
01
October 2022
Ambassadors
from “all Arab countries” have reportedly written a letter to UK Prime Minister
Liz Truss urging her not to go ahead with an “ill-judged” plan to move the
British embassy in Tel Aviv to al-Quds.
The
Arab ambassadors said that the plan could jeopardize talks on a free trade deal
between the UK and the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council due to be completed
this year, The Guardian said in a report on Friday.
The
report said that although it was expected that a number of Arab countries would
object to the move, the letter has the endorsement of “all the Arab countries,”
including those that support the normalization deals between the Israeli regime
and four Arab countries.
Signatories
of the letter include the UAE and Bahrain, the first two Arab countries that
normalized their relations with Israel in 2020.
Truss
has announced in a letter to Conservative Friends of Israel that she would open
a review of the location of the UK embassy. She also told Israeli prime minister
Yair Lapid in New York last week that her office would be engaging in a review
of the British embassy’s current location.
According
to The Guardian, a former British diplomat described Truss as a “pound-shop
Trump”, making a reference to a 2018 US decision under Donald Trump to move the
US embassy to al-Quds.
“She
seems to think she should ape Donald Trump,” he said. “The difference is that
the US is big enough to get its way in the Middle East. The UK is not. If the
UK shifted its embassy it would have a domino effect amongst some countries in
the European Union, such as Hungary, but probably not, and will damage British
interest in the Arab world.”
Husam
Zomlot, Palestinian ambassador in London, said any embassy move would be a
blatant violation of international law and the UK’s historic responsibilities.
“It
undermines the two-state solution and inflames an already volatile situation in
[al-Quds], the rest of the occupied territories, and among communities in the
UK and worldwide. It would be disastrous,” Zomlot said.
Israel
lays claim to the entire al-Quds, but the international community views the
city’s eastern sector as occupied territory and Palestinians consider it the
capital of their future state.
Last
month, the Palestinian foreign ministry said the Israeli regime has no rightful
claim or sovereignty over the occupied al-Quds, adding that the possible move
by the UK would amount to “complicity in Israel’s illegal annexation of the
city.”
The
Palestinian resistance movement Hamas also said the relocation of the British
embassy would not give any legitimacy to the Israeli regime.

Bosnia's
high representative announces controversial electoral law reform
Talha
Ozturk
02.10.2022
BELGRADE,
Serbia
The
High Representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced on Sunday that he had
enacted the controversial electoral law reform, using his "Bonn
powers."
After
polls closed in the Balkan country's presidential and parliamentary votes, Christian
Schmidt claimed that he signed two decisions for the functionality and timely
implementation of the election results in the document that he called the
"functionality package" and added that the decisions were related to
the government and coalition building processes.
"To
the voters, to you, I want to say that, while you were at the polls and voted,
I made decisions to ensure that your vote counted and that your democratic will
was respected. You have shown your responsibility by voting democratically.
Now, your voting will must be respected," Schmidt said in a letter to the
public.
Voters
in Bosnia and Herzegovina headed to the polls on Sunday to choose lawmakers at
the canton, entity, and national levels, as well as the three members of the
Presidential Council.
About
3.3 million people are estimated to have voted for members of parliament in the
country's two entities -- the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and
Republika Srpska -- as well as 10 cantons within the Federation of Bosnia and
Herzegovina.
Voters
are also choosing representatives for the Presidential Council and the national
parliament.
Bosnia
Herzegovina's political structure is often dubbed as one of the most
complicated in the world.
In
his letter, Schmidt said the legal changes would not affect Sunday's elections.
Schmidt
said the changes he enacted were necessary for Bosnia to progress on its way to
EU candidate status.
"Necessary
legislative or executive decisions lack transparency or they are simply blocked
and not implemented. It is crucial for the fate of this country that there are
no more blockages.
"That
is why I have imposed measures that will improve the functionality of the
institutions in the Federation of Bosnia Herzegovina. They will enable all
citizens to their voices are heard and to ensure that they are truly
represented by those they have elected," he alleged.
According
to Schmidt, the measures are aimed at improving the functionality of the
Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and ensuring timely implementation of the
results of the October 2022 elections.
While
the US Embassy in the capital Sarajevo supported Schmidt's decision, it remains
unclear how politicians will react.
Allegations
of new election law
Even
before Schmidt's announcement, reports were circulating in the country that the
high representative would impose a new election law.
Media
reports in July reported that by Aug. 1, the German politician would impose
such measures on the functioning of Bosnia's federation.
The
expected new law would determine how delegates are chosen from the House of
Peoples, the upper chamber of the Bosniak-Croat Federation entity's parliament.
If
the law would be put in place, the founding nations of Bosniaks, Croats, and
Serbs will lose representatives of their ethnic community in a federation
canton if their population there is less than 3%.
Under
the current election law, at least one Bosniak, one Croat, and one Serb
delegate are elected from each canton.
This
would be the third time Schmidt uses the so-called "Bonn powers"
after assuming office in August 2021.
The
first time he did it was to annul a law on immovable property in Republika
Srpska, the Serb-dominated entity.
The
second time, Schmidt used his "Bonn powers" to finance the country's
general elections on Oct. 2, allocating €6.5 million ($6.97 million) for the
Central Election Commission.
The
Office of the High Representative was established with the Dayton Peace
Agreement that ended the 1992-1995 war in Bosnia Herzegovina.
The
office oversees the implementation of the peace agreement on behalf of the
international community. The high representative also coordinates the
activities of international institutions operating in the country.

13
more grain ships left Ukraine under Istanbul deal in past 3 days: Türkiye

Fatih Beyaz
01.10.2022
Thirteen
more ships have left Ukrainian ports under the Istanbul grain export deal over
the past three days, the Turkish National Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.
A ministry statement did not
disclose the point of origin of the ships.
“Grain
shipments, which enable the transportation of more than 5.5 million tons of
grain from Ukrainian ports in a period of 2 months, continue safely as
planned,” it added.
Türkiye, the UN, Russia, and
Ukraine signed an agreement in Istanbul on July 22 to resume grain exports from
three Ukrainian Black Sea ports, which paused after the start of the
Russia-Ukraine war in February.
A Joint Coordination Center
with officials from the three countries and the UN was set up in Istanbul to
oversee the shipments.

Women
in Central Afghanistan March in Protest against Education Centre Explosion
By
Saqalain Eqbal
02
Oct 2022
Women
marched in protest against the Kaaj tragedy in Bamyan province in central
Afghanistan after similar demonstrations in Kabul and Herat provinces.
The
demonstrator women said that no one is safe in a place where “suicides and
explosions” are mentioned with pride. They cite Kaaj’s attack as an egregious
example of the genocide of Hazaras in Afghanistan.
A
resolution stating that the Kaaj attack was a genocide against the Hazara
people was adopted at the Bamyan province women’s march on Sunday, October 2.
According
to the resolution of Bamyan women, the mass killing in Kaaj is an “egregious
case of the atrocities and genocide committed against the Hazara people and is
a continuation of a long string of prior terrorist attacks.”
The
perpetrators of the genocide, according to Bamyan women, always claim
responsibility from an unnamed location and misleadingly and mysteriously.
Protesters
in Bamyan reason that because suicide and explosions are regarded as acts of
“pride and honor” in a place, everyone’s life is in danger and no one is safe.
They
inquired in their resolution whether there is a government in Afghanistan. Does
this government have any responsibility for the lives of the citizens of this
country? Is going to school for girls a crime?
After
posing these queries, they called for the establishment of an inclusive
government in Afghanistan and underscored the imperative to put an end to the
suicide and bombing cultures that target innocent people.

Afghanistan
classroom bombing death toll jumps to 43: UN
Oct
3, 2022
KABUL:
The death toll from a suicide bomb attack on an education centre in the Afghan
capital last week has risen to at least 43, the United Nations mission in
Afghanistan said on Monday.
A
suicide bomber blew himself up next to women at a gender-segregated study hall
in a Kabul neighbourhood on Friday, home to the historically oppressed Shiite
Muslim Hazara community.
"Forty
three killed. 83 wounded. Girls and young women were the main victims,"
the UN mission said in a tweet, adding that casualties were expected to rise
further.
The
bomber detonated as hundreds of students were sitting a practice test ahead of
an entrance exam for university admissions.
No
group has so far claimed responsibility, but the jihadist Islamic State group
(IS) which considers Shiites as heretics has carried out several deadly attacks
in the area targeting girls, schools and mosques.
The
Taliban authorities have so far said 25 people were killed and 33 others were
wounded in the attack.
The
Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan last year brought an end to a
two-decade war against the Western-backed government, and led to a significant
reduction in violence, but security has begun to deteriorate in recent months.
The
Islamist hardliners, accused of failing to protect minorities, have often tried
to downplay attacks challenging their regime.
Friday's
attack triggered sporadic women-led protests in Kabul and some other cities.
Around
50 women chanted, "Stop Hazara genocide, it's not a crime to be a
Shiite", as they marched on Saturday in Dasht-e-Barchi neighbourhood where
the attack happened.
The
rallies have been dispersed by Taliban forces often firing shots into the air
and beating protesters.
Afghanistan's
Hazaras have regularly faced attacks in the majority Sunni Muslim country.
They
have faced persecution for decades, targeted by the Taliban during their
insurgency against the former US-backed government and by IS - both of which
consider Shiites heretics.
In
May last year, before the Taliban's return to power, at least 85 people -
mainly girls - were killed and about 300 were wounded when three bombs exploded
near their school in Dasht-e-Barchi.

Taliban
sells $10 million at Currency Exchange Auction
By
Saqalain Eqbal
02
Oct 2022
The
Taliban caretaker administration’s Central Bank of Afghanistan announced that
an auction to sell $10 million will take place on Sunday.
To
maintain the Afghani currency’s purchasing power in relation to the US dollar,
the Central Bank of the Taliban’s caretaker administration has organized an
auction for Sunday, October 2, in which it will sell approximately $10 million.
According
to a statement from the Central Bank of Afghanistan, also known as Da
Afghanistan Bank (DAB), financial institutions such as banks, money exchange
dealers, and other qualified parties are invited to participate in the auction.
In
the DAB statement, it is also outlined that the auction winners have a duty to
fulfill their obligations, and settle their accounts.
Due
to the Afghani currency’s previous depreciation against the dollar and other
foreign currencies, dollar packages were previously auctioned for sale.
Since
the dollar was injected into the market last year, the dollar rate has remained
largely aligned.

“Prince
Saud Abdulaziz Al-Saud” Wanted To Give Najib US$800mil to Promote Islam, Court
Told
Ho
Kit Yen
October
3, 2022
KUALA
LUMPUR: The High Court hearing Najib Razak’s 1MDB trial was told today that an
individual known as “Prince Saud Abdulaziz Al-Saud” wanted to give the former
prime minister a sum of US$800 million in 2013 to promote moderate Islam.
Defence
counsel Wan Aizuddin Wan Mohamed said Saud had written a letter to Najib dated
March 1, 2013, in which Saud said he was “impressed (by the) significant work”
Najib had done in governing Malaysia according to Islamic principles and
reintroducing the religion to the world.
“Do
you know anything about this letter,” Wan Aizuddin asked when cross-examining
the head of AmBank’s private banking capital market desk, Yap Wai Keat.
Yap,
who is a witness in Najib’s 1MDB trial, said he could not recall if he had seen
Saud’s letter.
“Joanna
might have given (it to) me (in 2013),” he said, referring to the time he
executed Najib’s foreign currency deposit.
Yap
was referring to Najib’s former AmBank relationship manager, Joanna Yu, who is
also scheduled to testify in the case.
The
court was told that between March and April 2013, a sum of US$681 million from
a Singaporean entity known as Tanore Finance Corporation entered Najib’s
account.
However,
a few months later, Najib transferred US$620 million back to Tanore Finance.
In
their opening statement on Aug 29, 2019, the prosecution claimed that “sham
documents were produced to pretend a donation (had been received) from an Arab
prince” after the 1MDB scandal broke out seven years ago.
Yap
also said he had executed the US$620 million transfer from Najib’s account.
He
told the court that he left AmBank in 2014, before the 1MDB special task force
launched their probe against the bank.
“I
don’t know what the investigation was about except from what I read in the
news,” he said, adding that he rejoined AmBank in 2017.
Najib
is standing trial on 25 charges of abuse of power and money laundering over
alleged 1MDB funds amounting to RM2.28 billion deposited into his AmBank
accounts between February 2011 and December 2014.

Not
supporting Muslim unity agenda is crossing the line, says Hadi
October
1, 2022
PETALING
JAYA: Malay-based parties that refuse to take heed of an “ummah unity” agenda
are crossing the line when it comes to efforts for peace, PAS president Abdul
Hadi Awang said today when explaining what ideal Malay unity politics should
be.
“Any
party that rejects this unity effort can be considered as crossing the line
when it comes to the goal of achieving peace, and so will be removed from the
Muslim unity pact,” he said in a statement.
The
Marang MP said as a Muslim group in power, his party also understood the
importance of working alongside non-Muslim parties which were “not extreme”.
“For
starters, Muslim unity begins with those in power, gathering all Muslim groups
of different parties. Then, non-Muslims who are not extreme must join in as we
have a multiracial society.”
Hadi
said misunderstandings among Malay-Muslim parties should be resolved using
Quranic principles and the sunnah.
He
also dismissed claims that PAS was supporting two warring parties at the same
time, insisting that it was doing so for the sake of Malay-Muslim unity.

Indonesian
govt orders police to identify, punish stadium disaster ‘perpetrators’ as anger
mounts
October
3, 2022
Indonesia’s
government called on the country’s police on Monday to identify and punish
whoever was responsible for a stadium stampede that left 125 people dead, as
anger mounted over one of the deadliest disasters in the history of football.
The
tragedy on Saturday night in the city of Malang also saw 323 people injured
after officers fired tear gas in a packed stadium to quell a pitch invasion,
triggering a stampede.
“We
ask the national police to find the perpetrators who have committed crimes in
the next few days,” Indonesia’s chief security minister Mahfud MD said in a
broadcast statement, without specifying who he was referring to.
“We
asked them to unveil who has perpetrated the crimes and that action must be
taken against them and we also hope the National Police will evaluate their
security procedures,” he added, announcing a task force for the investigation had
been formed.
The
incident unfolded when fans of home team Arema FC stormed the pitch at the
Kanjuruhan stadium after their loss 3-2 to bitter rivals Persebaya Surabaya.
Police
responded by launching volleys of tear gas into packed terraces, prompting spectators
to rush en masse to small gates where many were trampled or suffocated,
according to witnesses.
Police
described the incident as a riot in which two officers were killed but
survivors accuse them of overreacting and causing the deaths of scores of
spectators, including a five-year-old boy.
“One
of our messages is for the authorities to investigate this (incident)
thoroughly. And we want accountability, who is to blame?” said 25-year-old
Andika, who declined to give his last name.
“We
want justice for our fallen supporters,” he said.
‘Murderer!’
Outside
the Kanjuruhan stadium on Sunday evening, people held a vigil beneath the
roaring lion statue — the club’s symbol — to honour the victims. But fresh
graffiti daubed on the walls of the stadium revealed bubbling anger towards the
authorities.
“My
siblings were killed. Investigate thoroughly,” read one message scrawled on the
stadium’s shutters, accompanied by a black ribbon and the date of the tragedy.
“ACAB”,
an acronym for “all cops are bast****”, was sprayed on another wall.
In
Jakarta, hundreds of football fans gathered outside the country’s biggest
stadium on Sunday chanting “murderer! murderer!”, singing songs in support of
Arema FC and placing police tape on the complex’s fence.
Indonesian
President Joko Widodo announced a probe into the incident, but rights groups
said it should be independent and officers should be held accountable for using
tear gas in a confined area.
“We
call on authorities to conduct a swift, thorough, and independent investigation
into the use of tear gas at the stadium and ensure that those who are found to
have committed violations are tried in open court,” Amnesty International said
in a statement.
“This
loss of life cannot go unanswered.”
Mahfud
said the task force would be chosen in the next 24 hours and would consist of
government officials, analysts, ministry representatives, football organisation
officials, academics and members of the media.
He
said authorities would announce the results of the probe as soon as possible.
“It
is estimated the task can be concluded in the next two or three weeks,” he
said.
‘Fans
died in players’ arms’
Anger
against the authorities gathered pace online, with many critical posts going
viral in Indonesia.
“Investigate
thoroughly. Firing tear gas in a closed space full of humans is a serious
violation,” read one tweet that was liked 11,000 times.
An
online petition titled “The police must stop using tear gas” gathered nearly
6,000 signatures by Monday morning.
The
fallout came as more information emerged about the stampede, with Arema FC’s
Chilean football coach saying “fans died in the arms of players”.
“The
boys passed by with victims in their arms,” Javier Roca told Spanish
broadcaster Cadena Ser. “I think the police overstepped their mark.”
Fan
violence is an enduring problem in Indonesia.
Witnesses
of Saturday’s violence say fans of the home team Arema invaded the pitch after
their loss to Persebaya Surabaya.
Persebaya
Surabaya supporters had not been allowed to buy tickets to the game, due to the
fear of violence.
After
the deadly stampede, Arema fans threw rocks at officers and torched vehicles
including a police truck on the streets of Malang, according to the police.
FIFA’s
president Gianni Infantino called the tragedy a “dark day” for football but
stopped short of calling for any action by authorities.
The
world football governing body’s safety guidelines prohibit the carrying of
crowd control gas by police or stewards at pitchside.

Islamic
nations' organization slams ‘change by force’ in Burkina Faso

Protesters
attacked the French embassy in Burkina Faso’s capital after supporters of the
country’s new coup leader accused France of giving refuge to the deposed
interim president at a military camp.
A
video shared on social media shows that the demonstrators attacked the embassy building
and fire also broke out at the embassy.
Paul-Henri
Sandaogo Damiba, the now-former transitional president, "is said to have
taken refuge in the French military base at Kamboinsin" and “he plans to
launch a counter-offensive,” the junta that is now led by Capt. Ibrahim Traore
said on state television on Saturday.
The

serving the interests of France, the former colonial power.
The
French embassy has denied any involvement in the latest developments.
“The

Burkina
Faso's army accuses deposed leader of taking refuge in French military base
Aurore
Bonny
01.10.2022
DOUALA,
Cameroon
Burkina
Faso’s military said on Saturday that the toppled former president of the West
African nation had taken refuge in a military camp in the capital, planning to
launch a counter-offensive against the junta.
Speaking
on state television, the army officers said Lt. Col. Paul-Henri Damiba, the
transitional president ousted on Friday, was planning to cause trouble for the
defense and security forces from the base in Ouagadougou.
Damiba,
who had been in power since January after staging a coup of his own, “is said
to have taken refuge in the French military base at Kamboinsin,” where “he
plans to launch a counter-offensive,” said the junta, now led by Capt. Ibrahim
Traore.
“This
follows our firm will to go to other partners ready to help us in the fight
against terrorism,” said Traore.
He
invited the population “not to fall into this trap” in the fight to restore the
territorial integrity of the country, long plagued by the threat of terrorism.
Damiba
was removed from power after conflicting reports early on Friday accompanied by
gunfire in Ouagadougou which has continued into Saturday.
He
had taken power in January from former elected President Roch Marc Kabore,
blaming him for failing to secure the country in the grip of terrorism.
Similar
accusations have been leveled against Damiba, whom his successors say was
unable to tackle insecurity and was serving the interests of former colonizer
France.
France
on Saturday denied any involvement of its military in the latest developments.
“The
camp where the French forces are located has never welcomed Paul-Henri Sandaogo
Damiba, nor has our embassy,” the French Foreign Ministry wrote in a statement.
The
new junta also dissolved the constitution and suspended the government and all
political and civil society activities. It has also ordered the closure of land
and air borders until further notice.
It
later decided to lift the curfew for Saturday evening, calling on the public to
"a patriotic vigil, a total and constant mobilization against obscurantist
forces who undermine the efforts against the common fight for the restoration
of the integrity," of the country.
The
army’s general staff acknowledged on Saturday that the military was currently
going through a serious political-military crisis along with on the security
crisis affecting the population.
“Following
an internal crisis within the National Armed Forces, some units have taken
control of certain streets in the city of Ouagadougou, demanding in a statement
the departure of Lieutenant Colonel Paul Henri Sandaogo Damiba,” it said.
The
African Union (AU), EU, and Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS)
have condemned the second coup in less than a year in a country that has
experienced several since its independence.
It
is "inappropriate," ECOWAS said.
In
a statement, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also “strongly” condemned
“any attempt to seize power by force of arms” in Burkina Faso.

More
than 40 bodies found in Libya mass grave: Authorities
02
October, 2022
Forty-two
bodies have been found in a mass grave in the Libyan city of Sirte, an
ex-stronghold of the ISIS extremist group, the country’s missing persons
authority said Sunday.
Exhumation
teams unearthed “42 unidentified bodies” after following up reports of a “mass
grave” at the site of a former school in Sirte, the authority said.
“DNA
samples have been taken for analysis in coordination with the office of
forensic medicine,” it added, without elaborating further.
Sirte,
a central coastal city, was held by ISIS between 2015 and 2016, as it exploited
the chaos engulfing much of Libya in the wake of the 2011 overthrow and killing
of President Muammar Gaddafi in a NATO-backed uprising.
The
extremist group was dislodged by forces loyal to the then UN backed Government
of National Accord in December 2016 after months of intense house-to-house
fighting.
In
October 2017, a grave containing the bodies of 21 Coptic Christians, executed
by extremists two years earlier, was uncovered near the Mediterranean city.

Burkina
Faso’s junta Damiba agrees to step down: Religious mediators
02
October, 2022
Burkina
Faso’s junta leader Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba agreed to step down Sunday, two
days after military officers announced he had been removed from power,
religious and community leaders said.
Following
mediation between Damiba and the new self-proclaimed leader, Ibrahim Traore,
“Damiba himself offered his resignation in order to avoid confrontations with
serious human and material consequences,” the religious and community leaders
said in a statement.
They
added that Damiba had set “seven conditions” for stepping down, including a
guarantee of security for his allies in the military, “a guarantee of his
security and rights” and that those taking power must respect the guarantee he
had given to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for a
return to civilian rule within two years.
The
religious and community leaders – who are very influential in Burkina Faso –
said that Traore accepted the conditions and “invites the population to
exercise calm, restraint and prayer.”
Since
the announcement on Friday that army officers had removed Damiba – who himself
came to power in a coup in January – tension has been high in the landlocked
West African country.
Damiba
had previously made clear that he had no intention of stepping down.
Security
forces fired tear gas to disperse angry protesters outside the French embassy

Top
Al-Shabab leader killed in joint operation: Somalia govt
October
03, 2022
MOGADISHU:
The Somali government announced on Monday a top Al-Shabab militant, who had a
$3.0-million US bounty on his head, had been killed in a joint air strike in
southern Somalia.
The
drone strike on October 1, launched by the Somali army and international
security partners, killed Abdullahi Yare near the coastal town of Haramka, the
ministry of information said in a statement dated Sunday but posted online on
Monday.
“This
leader... was the head preacher of the group and one of the most notorious
members of the Shabab group,” it said.
“He
was former head of the Shoura council and the group’s director for finances,”
the ministry said, referring to a powerful consultation body within Al-Shabab.
A
co-founder of the Al-Qaeda-linked group, Yare was believed to be next in line
to take over the leadership of the movement from its ailing chief Ahmed Diriye,
according to the ministry.
“His
elimination is like a thorn removed from Somalia as a nation,” the ministry
said.
Yare
was one of seven leaders named by the United States on its most-wanted list in
2012. Washington offered three million dollars for his capture.
The
announcement of the strike comes weeks after Somalia’s recently elected
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud vowed to stage all-out war on the jihadists,
following a string of deadly attacks. They include a 30-hour hotel siege in the
capital, Mogadishu, that killed 21 people.
Mohamud
last month urged citizens to stay away from areas controlled by Al-Shabab as he
vowed to ratchet up offensives against the militants.
US
forces have in the past partnered with African Union soldiers and Somali troops
in counterterrorism operations, and have conducted frequent raids and drone
strikes on Al-Shabab training camps throughout Somalia.
Last
month, the US military said it had killed 27 jihadist fighters in an air strike
near Bulobarde, the main town on the road linking Mogadishu to Beledweyne, a
key city on the border with Ethiopia.
It
said the air strike was carried out “at the request” of the Somali government.
Al-Shabab,
which espouses a strict version of sharia or Islamic law, has waged a bloody
insurrection against the Mogadishu government for 15 years and remains a potent
force despite an African Union operation against the group.
Its
fighters were ousted from the capital in 2011 but continue to stage attacks on
military, government and civilian targets.
