The renewed campaign against Palestinians suspected of selling real estate to Jews is also part of the belief that the entire land is Muslim-owned, and no Muslim is entitled to give up even one inch of it to a non-Muslim. In other words, it is forbidden for a Muslim to sell his home or land to a Jew or Christian. This would be the nail in the coffin of any Palestinian leader who attempts to make any territorial compromise as part of a peace agreement with Israel.
This campaign has raised fears that Palestinians may resume extrajudicial executions of suspected land dealers.
"The land dealers should know that they would not be able to avoid earthly and life punishment. Not only will they not be buried in Islamic cemeteries, but their entire families will also be punished and it would be forbidden to marry or to deal in any way with their family members." — Palestinian National Work Commission in Jerusalem.
This campaign undermines Palestinians' long-standing claim that Jews "illegally seize" Arab-owned houses and land in Jerusalem. It seems that rather than illegal seizure, Jews have been paying willing Arabs cold hard cash for the properties.
A Palestinian Muslim who commits the "crime" of selling property to Jews should not expect to be buried in an Islamic cemetery. Marriage to local Palestinians will no longer be an option for this criminal's family members, and any weddings the family makes will have no guests attending.
Both the living and the dead, then, will pay the price for such "treason."
This is only a sampling of the punitive measures that will now be faced by Palestinian residents of Jerusalem who are involved in real estate transactions with Jews.
The latest measures were recently announced by a group of Palestinian activists in east Jerusalem, as part of a renewed campaign against Palestinians who are found guilty of selling a home or plot of land to a Jewish individual or organization.
The campaign, which has received the blessing of senior Palestinian Authority (PA) and Hamas officials, comes in the context of Palestinian efforts to thwart Israeli efforts to "Judaize" Jerusalem. It is also part of the belief that the entire land is Muslim-owned and no Muslim is entitled to give up even one inch of it to a non-Muslim. In other words, it is forbidden for a Muslim to sell his home or land to a Jew or Christian.
This campaign has raised fears that Palestinians may resume extrajudicial executions of suspected land dealers.
Although the activists behind the campaign did not openly call for the execution of Palestinians involved in real estate transactions with Jews, past experience shows that "suspects" are often kidnapped and killed by their own people.
Between 1996 and 1998, at least eight Palestinians suspected of selling property to Jews or serving as middlemen in such transactions were abducted and killed by Palestinian activists.
Palestinians consider the selling of homes or land to Jews an act of high treason. Palestinian Authority laws and Fatwas (Islamic religious decrees) prohibit Palestinians from selling land to "any man or judicial body corporation of Israeli citizenship, living in Israel or acting on its behalf."
In 2009, a Palestinian Authority court in Hebron sentenced Anwar Breghit, 59, to death for selling land to Israelis. While the sentence was never carried out, it achieved its aim: to deter others from engaging in similar transactions with Jews.
In 2014, PA President Mahmoud Abbas issued an executive order that amended sections of the penal code related to real estate transactions, and increased punishments for selling land to "hostile countries" and their citizens. Abbas's decision came following reports that Palestinians had sold houses in Jerusalem's Silwan neighbourhood to Jews.
Yet this sell-to-Jews-get-murdered equation is nothing new. In 1998, Amnesty International documented the pattern: "Torture of those accused of "collaboration" with Israel or selling land to Israelis appeared to be systematic," the report said.
"Unlawful killings, including possible extrajudicial executions, continued to occur. Three land dealers were found dead during May [1998] after [PA] Justice Minister Freih Abu Meddein, announced that the Palestinian Authority would begin applying a Jordanian law which provided for the death penalty for those accused of selling land to Jews."
Last week, a Palestinian group, the National Work Commission in Jerusalem, issued yet another warning to Palestinians suspected of involvement in real estate transactions with Jews. In a leaflet distributed in east Jerusalem, the group called for a religious, economic and social boycott of the suspected real estate dealers and their families.
"We call for additional measures to renounce and besiege the brokers and weak people among Palestinians in Jerusalem. We call for a total boycott of these people on all levels -- social and economic -- and to refrain from dealing with them in trade or purchases or sales or participating in their joys and sorrows and in any religious, national or cultural event. The land dealers should know that they would not be able to avoid earthly and life punishment. Not only will they not be buried in Islamic cemeteries, but their entire families will also be punished and it would be forbidden to marry or to deal in any way with their family members."
The group, which consists of scores of Palestinian political activists and prominent figures from east Jerusalem, also threatened to post photos and personal details of the land dealers on social media. In addition, the group called on Arab countries to ban the entry of any Palestinian found guilty of involvement in real estate transactions with Jews.
This threat came only days after several Palestinian families from the Old City of Jerusalem launched a similar campaign targeting Palestinians suspected of involvement in real estate deeds with Jews. The families signed what they called "The Document of the Jerusalem Pledge and Its Covenant," to prevent real estate transactions with Jews.
The document states that any Palestinian caught selling a house or land to Jews would be considered "out of the national ranks and a traitor to Allah and his Prophet." It too warned that those who defy the ban would be deprived of a prayer at a mosque upon his or her death and would not be buried in an Islamic cemetery. The families called on the Palestinian Authority and other Palestinian factions and institutions to take all measures to "chase out the collaborators and those who cover up for them, and expose them and shame them regardless of their influence and status."
Mustafa Abu Zahra, a prominent Palestinian businessman from Jerusalem and one of the engineers of the document, called on the Palestinian Authority to "deter" anyone who thinks of selling of facilitating the sale of Arab-owned property to Jews.
Another Palestinian official, Najeh Bkeirat, who played a major role in the drafting of the document, claimed that Israel was seeking to "empty the Old City of Jerusalem from its native residents as it is already doing in Haifa, Jaffa and Acre."
The renewed campaign against Palestinians suspected of selling real estate to Jews would be the nail in the coffin of any Palestinian leader who attempts to make any territorial compromise as part of a peace agreement with Israel. The stakes are very, very high: betrayal of Allah and Prophet Mohammed are at issue.
"This document constitutes a message of warning to the Palestinian Authority and its negotiators that they must not give up one grain of the soil of Jerusalem and the land of Palestine," explained Palestinian columnist Ghassan Mustafa Al-Shami. "The document also represents a message to all the Palestinian national factions that they must take all the measures to pursue anyone who dares to think of selling Jerusalem and West Bank lands and houses, and that they should be put on trial for treason."
Finally, this campaign undermines Palestinians' long-standing claim that Jews "illegally seize" Arab-owned houses and land in Jerusalem. It seems that rather than illegal seizure, Jews have been paying willing Arabs cold hard cash for the properties. By endorsing such campaigns, the Palestinian Authority leadership is once again shooting itself not only in the foot, but also in the head.

What Is India’s Annual Zakat Collection? Depends On Who You Ask

Zakat, or charity, is one of the five pillars of Islam. The amount is calculated as 2.5% of a family’s annual savings and the donation can be made in cash or kind any time of the year, but most contributions are made during the Ramzan— a period of fasting and prayers — because it is believed that the rewards of good deeds in this month are greater.
“People plan their annual calendar around Ramzan and it is convenient to donate during this month,” said Aamir Edresy of the Association of Muslim Professionals (AMP), which channels donations to causes like education and employment.
In 2013, AMP collected about Rs2 Lakh from 40-odd donors; in 2015 donations grew more than 10-fold to Rs21 lakh from 250 donors. In the first 10 days of this Ramzan, the number of donors has already crossed 50, said Edresy. Nationally, too, Zakat collections have been growing and AMP estimates that Rs7,500 crores are collected every year in the country. Edresy thinks that donations could even be Rs40,000 crores.
There has been no recent study to calculate the money that is collected as Zakat across the country. Dr Rahmatullah of All-India Council of Muslim Economic Upliftment, tried to find an estimate eight years ago using government and independent statistics on per capita income and charity. He arrived at the figure of Rs10, 000 crores. “But keeping in view the increase in per capita income since then the contributions must have tripled. It is an estimate, but the amount could be Rs30, 000-Rs 40,000 crores,” said Rahmatullah. For a comparison, the annual budget of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the country’s richest, is about Rs 37,000 crores.
Siraj Hussain, former Indian Administrative Service officer, said that the figures are inflated. “If you see the per capita income of Muslim families in the NSSO (National Sample Survey Office) data and do a calculation, the estimate of charity is too high. There is no transparency because most transactions are in cash,” said Hussain. “The collection is poorly organised. The community is so poor that even if the donations are made by cheque the amount will be below the estimates.”
Rahmatullah said that the problem was not about transparency, but the way the charity is collected and distributed. “The system is such that there is no organised way to calculate how much money is collected. In fact there is a need for such a study; it is in the interest of Muslims,” said Rahmatullah.
While Rahmatullah said that not-for-profit groups should do research to arrive at a credible figure, Syed Zahid Ahmad, who was associated with All-India Council of Muslim Economic Upliftment, suggested that the government should set up bodies similar to the Wakf boards (a statutory body which administers Muslim religious trusts) to manage the funds. “There is mismanagement and donors and the agencies that collect charity do not reveal the true figures because there is a lot of black money.”
There is also no agreement on how the donations are being spent. Hussain said that a large part of the charity goes to religious institutions. “According to tradition, the first priority is the family; then the relatives. After these two categories, the donations go mostly to madrasas and mosques.”
Rahmatullah said this is changing. “Earlier people gave Zakat unmindful of what it is used for. There is a change in mindset now and people want to donate for education and healthcare. They think this will bring change in the Muslim community.”
Maulana Syed Moinuddin Ashraf, a spiritual leader from the city who is known as Moin Miya, said that the trend is to donate more for causes like education.
“I feel that medical help and education should get more importance. People know that if one person gets educated it helps the family. It is teaching people to fish, rather than distributing free fish.”

Saudi-Affiliated Militia in Rivalry with SDF to Win ISIL-Controlled Regions in Syria

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Saudi-affiliated militia in Syria launched separate attacks on ISIL positions in the Eastern parts of Qalamoun after rejecting to join the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in campaign against ISIL in Aleppo and Raqqa.
The Ahmad al-Abdo, Jeish Aswad al-Sharqiya and Jeish Tahrir al-Sham militant groups launched a joint attack against the ISIL positions in Eastern Qalamoun to drive the ISIL towards Jabal al-Zaba'a and al-Mahasa regions in the Eastern parts of Homs.
Also, Aswad al-Sharqiya militias which are supported by Saudi Arabia and affiliated to Jeish al-Islam terrorist group targeted a number of New Syrian Army group's positions near the Jordanian borders which forced them to withdraw into Jordan.
This is while the Saudi-backed militants have also rejected cooperation with the SDF in joint operations with the US against the ISIL in the Southern parts of Deir Ezzur.
It seems that the Saudi regime has ordered the militant groups affiliated to Riyadh to attack the ISIL positions in the Eastern parts of Qalamoun and desert areas to pressure the Syrian army units and prevent their operations in Syria Desert.
Syria has been gripped by foreign-sponsored militancy since March 2011. Damascus says Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar are the main supporters of the militants fighting the government forces.

Indonesian VP says Trump's Muslim comments could spark retaliation

Indonesia's vice president on Monday voiced concerns over U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump's comments on Muslims, saying "discrimination according to religion" could prompt retaliatory policies from other countries.
Jusuf Kalla told Reuters in an interview that the government was "not happy with Trump's opinions" - the first critical remarks from a top official in the world's most populous Muslim-majority nation, which come as Trump called for more profiling in the U.S to battle crime.
"Any country, especially big countries, seen making policies about 'radicalism' or discrimination according to religion will be a bad issue," Kalla said in an interview with Reuters.
"There will be 'vice-versa' policies from other countries," he said, adding an impact would be felt on economy and trade.
Trump's inflammatory remarks on Muslims, including wanting to temporarily ban them from entering the United States, on foreign policy and on international trade ties have raised concerns in some Asian countries over a potentially "isolationist" United States.
In Indonesia, Southeast Asia's biggest economy, politicians and lawmakers are already thinking about restricting U.S. trade and investment if Trump becomes president. An online petition, urging a ban on the billionaire and his businesses from the country, has received nearly 47,000 signatures.
The real estate developer also has partnerships to operate luxury resorts on Bali and in Java, which Indonesian officials have said could be threatened by his rhetoric.
Trump Hotel Collection last year announced a partnership with Indonesia's PT Media Nusantara Citra to manage new luxury hotels on Bali and in West Java, the Trump unit's first foray into Asia.
"Of course there will be an impact, not for Indonesia, but for his business," Kalla said, when asked about Trump's involvement in the resorts.
But the Indonesian government was in wait-and-see mode, Kalla said, adding Trump's comments could be seen as posturing as part of his presidential campaign.
"We still see this as campaign strategy. Campaigning is one thing and realization is another thing," he said.

Police disperse LGBT group in Istanbul over banned pride march

Police dispersed a group of around 50 people who wanted to stage a LGBT Trans Pride March on the afternoon of June 19 in Istanbul’s Taksim Square, despite a ban on the march announced by the Istanbul Governor’s Office.
Demonstrators blowing whistles and holding placards gathered on side streets of the Beyoğlu district to march toward Taksim Square, where a huge police presence was blocking entry.
Riot police used teargas to disperse the participants as they attempted to march toward the square.

Israeli soldiers fire at Islamic Jihad military post near eastern Gaza

GAZA/RAMALLAH, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Israeli soldiers stationed on the borderline area between Israel and eastern Gaza Strip opened fire on Sunday at an Islamic Jihad military lookout post near the borders, the group said.
The group's armed wing, known as al-Quds Battalion, said on its website that the Israeli soldiers had suddenly opened fire at one of its lookout posts east of Khan Younis in southern Gaza Strip without warning.
It said no injuries were reported and several Islamic Jihad militants were at the lookout post pulled back peacefully and didn't respond to the source of fire. There was no immediate Israeli army comment to the shooting incident.

MHP dissidents garner enough support for extraordinary convention

Dissidents in the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) managed to make substantial changes to the party’s internal regulations through an extraordinary convention in Ankara on June 19, marking an important milestone in their months-long legal fight to topple long-time party chair Devlet Bahçeli.
The Trustee Board charged with holding the convention upon a court decision announced the official opening of the meeting after registering the presence of 752 out of 1,187 delegates, over the required 594, at the convention hall on June 19.

ISIL held test drive ahead of plot, prosecutor says

Two suspected Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) members carried out a test drive with a panel van that was planned to be used for a future attack some four days before a raid on a cell house, which led to the death of seven ISIL militants in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır on Oct. 26, 2015, a prosecutor has said in a letter to a court.
In the Jan. 18 letter written as part of a probe launched into an ISIL plot in the city, the prosecutor said that now arrested suspects Cafer Erdem and Baran Yalçın on Oct. 22, 2015, conducted a test drive with the vehicle, which was purchased to be loaded with explosives and then exploded in an attack.

Islamic State Module Wanted Maoists’ Support After Violent Acts, Are Inspired By Naxal Strategies

NEW DELHI: An Islamic State (IS) inspired nationwide module in India tried to contact Maoists for "seeking shelter" after carrying out "violent acts" that it was planning across the country, interrogations have revealed after 25 youths were arrested. The suspects said they were also trying to obtain arms and ammunition with the help of Maoists, officials .
One of the arrested suspects, Mohammad Azhar, told the investigators that he made two failed attempts to contact Maoists in 2015. A native of Bhopal, Azhar was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in February this year. He is suspected to be part of Junood-al-Khalifa-e-Hind, set up by Syria-based Shafi Armar, who has pledged allegiance to ISIS chief Abu-Bakr-al Baghdadi.

UP's RSS schools claim 30% rise in Muslim kids in 2 yrs

ALLAHABAD: About 7,000 Muslim students are studying in 1,200 Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) schools across Uttar Pradesh, an increase of 30% in the last two years after a BJP-led government came to power at the Centre, the right-wing outfit has said. RSS, known for its Hindutva ideology, said these students were following all rules like reciting `slokas` and `bhojan mantras', and were doing very well in studies and sports.Most of these students are enrolled in rural areas.

39 Indians abducted by Islamic State in Iraq are alive: Sushma Swaraj

New Delhi: The 39 Indians, kidnapped by the dreaded Islamic State in Iraq in June 2014, are still alive, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said, dismissing reports about their killing and insisting that efforts to trace them are on.
In her annual press conference, Swaraj said the government was was trying its best to ensure safe release of Judith D'Souza, an aid worker and resident of Kolkata, who was abducted by suspected militants in Kabul on 9 June.

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) : Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front ( JKLF) chairman Yasin Malik was on Monday detained by the police in Batamaloo area of Srinagar.
The arrest took place when he was on his way to meet Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
As per reports, Malik was scheduled to take part in a joint meeting of resistance groups at the Hurriyat (G) chairman’s residence.

The Ahmad al-Abdo, Jeish Aswad al-Sharqiya and Jeish Tahrir al-Sham militant groups launched a joint attack against the ISIL positions in Eastern Qalamoun to drive the ISIL towards Jabal al-Zaba'a and al-Mahasa regions in the Eastern parts of Homs.
Also, Aswad al-Sharqiya militias which are supported by Saudi Arabia and affiliated to Jeish al-Islam terrorist group targeted a number of New Syrian Army group's positions near the Jordanian borders which forced them to withdraw into Jordan.

Religious tolerance shown by jazz at Jakarta mosque

JAKARTA: Prominent jazz musicians take part in the annual jazz festival held at a mosque to show their support to religious tolerance.
Most of the time, mosques are seen as places restricted only for Muslims to pray and carry out other religious activities.
However, this view was rearranged somewhat last Friday by youngsters who came to Ramadhan Jazz 2016 at the Cut Meutia Mosque in Cikini, central Jakarta. Twenty-three-year-old Hanindya Bodhi Wijaya, for example, came away with a different perspective.
The Buddhist animator visited the courtyard of the Cut Meutia Mosque on Friday evening to witness its annual Jazz festival, which was held from Friday to Saturday by Cut Meutia Mosque’s Islamic Youth (RICMA) teaming up with jazz portal wartajazz.com.

Islamic school in UK gives students anti-Daesh classes

An Islamic school in Britain is holding classes for students as young as 11 years old in order to help them recognise violent propaganda to prevent militants from grooming them online.
More than 600 students aged between 11 and 16 attend the Al Hira Educational and Cultural Centre in Luton, Bedfordshire, each week for weekend and evening classes on the Holy Quran and anti-Daesh for the last eight months, the Daily Mail reported on Sunday.

America welcoming far more Muslim refugees than Christian refugees, ACLJ says

The number of Muslim refugees being processed in the U.S. far surpasses that of Christian refugees, according to an organization that promotes and protects religious freedom.
The American Center for Law and Justice said in a recent report that since the beginning of the year, the U.S. has processed 11,086 Muslim refugees from Iraq and 5,345 Muslim refugees from Syria. On the other hand, only 433 Christian refugees from Iraq and 28 Christian refugees from Syria have been processed.

ALGIERS, Algeria — The Algerian military says it has killed 12 armed Islamist fighters and captured four others during a weekend offensive against extremists.

Five suspected militants killed in Balochistan's Awaran

QUETTA: Five suspected militants were killed in Balochistan’s Awaran district on Sunday evening.
A security official, not authorised to speak publicly, said security forces conducted an operation against the militants in the Mashkay area of Awaran.
“Five miscreants belonging to a banned militant organisation were killed during the exchange of fire,” said the security official.

Pak-Afghan delegations meet in Islamabad to discuss border tensions

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani and Afghan delegations met on Monday in the first senior-level talks aimed at reducing tensions at the Torkham border crossing along the Pak-Afghan border.
"A six-member Afghan delegation is being led by Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister Hekmat Khalil Karzai," Foreign Office Spokesman Nafees Zakaria said, adding that the Pakistani side was being led by Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry.
"Afghan delegation warmly received. Talks started in a cordial atmosphere," Zakaria said.
Both sides are to review all aspects of border issues and will evolve a mechanism for better border management.

NSG to take up Pakistan, India’s membership requests this week

WASHINGTON: The Nuclear Suppliers Group’s 2016 annual plenary, which begins in Seoul on Monday, is expected to have a far-reaching impact on South Asia’s future.
During its session, the NSG would take up membership requests from both India and Pakistan on June 23-24.

Muttahida worker shot dead in Korangi

KARACHI: A senior Muttahida Qaumi Movement worker was shot dead in Korangi in the early hours of Sunday morning, Zaman Town police and party officials said.
Zaman Town SHO Shah Jehan Lashari said Sohail Rasheed, 30, was attacked near his home in Naeemabad in Korangi 3 ½.

'We cannot fight Afghanistan's war on our soil'

ISLAMABAD: Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz on Sunday said the United States wants Pakistan to act against the Afghan Taliban but "Pakistan cannot fight Afghanistan's war on its own soil".
In an interview with the state-owned Pakistan Television (PTV), Aziz maintained that US authorities have the "misconception" that Pakistan is backing certain Taliban groups or the Haqqani network, while in reality Pakistan has effectively demolished their whole infrastructure during Operation Zarb-i-Azb.
