SC maintains Mumtaz Qadri's death penalty, says he is a terrorist
NASIR IQBAL
October 07, 2015
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday restored the conviction of Mumtaz Qadri — the killer of former Punjab governor Salman Taseer — by an Anti Terrorism Court.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa dismissed the appeal filed by Mumtaz Qadri challenging the Islamabad High Court's decision to hand him the death sentence.
Qadri, a former commando of Punjab police’s Elite Force, was sentenced to death by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in October 2011 for assassinating former Punjab governor Salman Taseer in Islamabad’s Kohsar Market. Qadri said he killed Taseer over the politician's vocal opposition to blasphemy laws of the country.
He had confessed to shooting Taseer dead outside an upmarket coffee shop close to the latter's residence in Islamabad on Jan 4.
Following the sentencing, Qadri's counsels had challenged the ATC's decision through two applications the same month.
The first petition had demanded that Qadri's death sentence should be quashed and the second asked for Section 7 of the ATA to be declared void from the sentencing.
In its ruling on the appeal, the IHC rejected Qadri's application against his death sentence under the PPC but accepted his application to void ATA's Section 7.
Qadri's counsels the challenged IHC's decision to uphold his death penalty in the Supreme Court.

Indian Actor Dilip Kumar Intervened To Defuse Kargil Crisis
JAWED NAQVI
October 07, 2015
NEW DELHI: Indian movie idol and recipient of Pakistan’s highest civilian award Dilip Kumar had intervened with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to help defuse the 1999 Kargil crisis, former foreign minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri said on Tuesday.
Kasuri quoted an aide of Sharif as confiding with him that in the middle of a conversation in July 1999 between the Pakistan prime minister and India’s Atal Behari Vajpayee, the latter handed the phone to Kumar who was listening in.
“The prime minister did not believe it was his hero on the phone,” Mr Kasuri told NDTV. Dilip Kumar assured him it was indeed he speaking, and he was concerned about the flare-up on the Kargil heights. He urged Sharif to help defuse the crisis quickly as that would be the right thing to do in the interests of the people on both sides.
In a separate interview with the Headlines Today channel, Kasuri spoke of a high ranking American team probing him about the possible Pakistani reaction if India were to launch an aerial strike on suspected terrorist camps responsible for the Mumbai carnage.
Also read: Kasuri claims India had planned air strikes in Pakistan after Mumbai attacks
Ex-minister says a US team asked him about army’s reaction if India carried out air strike on Muridke
Kasuri said he was certain that the US delegation had spoken to “someone very high in India” before asking him the question. Before a lunch in Lahore shortly after the 26/11 Mumbai attack, US Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham had asked Mr Kasuri how Pakistan would react if India carried out an aerial strike on Jamaatud Dawaa’s Muridke headquarters.
Besides McCain and Graham, then a Member of the Select Committee on Intelligence, US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke was also present there. Holbrooke did not speak on the matter, possibly to maintain “plausible deniability”, Kasuri said.
“It was bipartisan; Richard Holbrooke was representing the Obama administration… I was no longer the foreign minister. I received a call from an American diplomat that so-and-so is coming, we’d like you to talk to him first… we sat in a corner and Holbrooke was mum,” Kasuri said in the interview.

Engineer belonging to Hizbut Tahrir arrested for distributing pamphlets
IMRAN AYUB
October 07, 2015
KARACHI: Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested an engineering and business graduate, who has allegedly been working for a banned organisation in Karachi’s south district, in the Boat Basin area of Clifton.
The suspect, Owais Raheel, targeted educated youngsters in the Defence and Clifton areas in order to use them “for illegal activities” with a view to implementing “Khilafa” in the country, the police said.
He graduated from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) and the NED University of Engineering and Technology and joined the banned Hizbut Tahrir (HT) in 2007, said a senior official.
Within eight years, he added, Owais became a key member of the group that defied Pakistan’s democratic system and aimed to implement “Khilafa” in the country.
“The suspect was arrested in the Boat Basin area on Tuesday under Section 11EEEE (1) of the Anti-Terrorism Act,” said Mazhar Mashwani of the Counter-Terrorism Department of police.
“We have also recovered from his possession several pamphlets of the organisation which he used to distribute outside mosques,” the officer added.
Banned in Pakistan in November 2003, HT is believed to be a global organisation that has organisational structure in several countries with main concentration in Islamic states.
Activists of the group have been arrested in the past as well for allegedly turning educated youngsters against the government.
“The suspect is associated with an elite educational institution,” said Mr Mashwani of the CTD. “He graduated from the NED University of Engineering and Technology and IBA and joined the Hizbut Tahrir in 2007.
“He was tasked with the distribution of pamphlets in mosques in the Clifton and Defence areas.”
He said the banned outfit did not recognise Pakistan’s governance system and wanted to establish “Khilafa” in the country. The suspect and his aides targeted young graduates in order to turn “them against the state” so that they could be used for illegal activities to achieve their objectives, he added.

Pakistan Army rejects involvement in Kunduz attack
October 07, 2015
ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Army yesterday rejected media reports in Afghan press, which claimed the country’s security officials were involved in the recent capture of Kunduz city of Afghanistan by the Taliban.
In Washington, US Army General John Campbell said in testimony to the Senate Armed Services Committee over airstrike on a hospital in Kunduz blamed Iran for financing Taliban in Afghanistan.
“The allegations levelled by an Afghan official are totally unfounded, baseless, uncalled for and mischievous,” said an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement.
Taliban militants last month had stormed the Afghan city Kunduz, effectively overrunning it in their biggest triumph since being ousted from national power in 2001. At least 55 people have been killed and hundreds wounded in sometimes fierce fighting that marks an escalation in the Taliban’s campaign to topple the Western-backed government in Kabul and reintroduce their harsh interpretation of Islamic law
The bloody three-day conquest of the northern city was harsh evidence that Afghan forces are not yet able to face the insurgents on their own, despite the US pouring in more than $60 billion to train government troops and build their capacity since 2001.
The ISPR said Pakistan was supporting an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process and condemned Kunduz attack, and such allegations were incomprehensible.
“Such accusations are not a responsible behaviour and need not be repeated in the better interest of addressing the actual threat,” the statement added.
Pakistan has already said it will not accept occupation of any part of Afghanistan by any group.
The American commander of international forces in Afghanistan, Cambell’s testimony also vindicated Pakistan stance in which he told the US senate body that while Afghan president Ashraf Ghani is trying to work with Pakistan to minimise the harm from various terrorist groups, Iran is providing money and weapons to the Taliban in western Afghanistan.
He said the Taliban has emerged with new force and the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria has become a major power player in recent years. He added that Ghani has asked multiple times for coalition forces to continue aiding his country.
Afghanistan is however confident that Pakistan is behind the Taliban and it is Islamabad that is the biggest challenge to achieving peace
The recent war in the Northern Province of Kundoz greatly complicates diplomacy and may potentially even deteriorate the military situation in the region. Therefore, it certainly requires Pakistan and Afghanistan to maintain a level of co-operation with each other to avoid further deterioration.
The insurgents, for their part, have loudly trumpeted their victory in Kunduz. Taliban said the offensive in the city was a “symbolic victory... we showed our power to the world”.
Taliban said every militant group in Afghanistan was now praising the new leadership of Mulla Akhtar Mansour. “All the splinter groups are now contacting us.
We are stronger than in the past.” While Pakistan wants good friendly relations with Afghanistan, Ghani — whose ascension to power was predicted as the beginning of a new era in off-again-on-again Pakistan-Afghanistan relations — had lambasted Pakistan following a string of Taliban attacks in and around Kabul in July and August that killed over 50 people.
In September, Pakistan said an attack on Pakistan Air Force’s Badaber camp base was planned in and controlled from Afghanistan.

ISIS Slice 12-Year-Old Syrian's Fingertips after Failing To Convert Him to Islam
October 06, 2015
ISIS militants sliced off the fingertips of 12-year-old boy in a bid to convert a group of Syrian Christians to Islam - but when they refused the terrorists executed all 12 people.
The unnamed boy's fingertips were hacked off because he was the son of a Syrian Christian ministry team leader who, along with the rest of the group, refused to renounce his faith.
The Gospel Herald reports one woman shouted out 'Jesus' moments before she and others were beheaded by the terror group.
Christian Aid Mission, a humanitarian group which assists Christian workers in their native countries, reports that the horrific murders took place on August 28 in an unnamed village outside Aleppo, in Syria.
Relatives of those killed said on August 7 ISIS militants captured the Christian workers in their village .
The Mission reports on August 28 the militants asked the group if they had renounced Islam for Christianity, and when the Christians confirmed that they had, the rebels asked if they wanted to return to Islam.
When the Christians said they would not renounce their Christianity, and in front of a large crowd, the Islamic extremists cut off the fingertips of the 12-year-old boy and beat him, and told his father they would stop the torture if he returned to Islam. When the team leader refused, relatives said, the ISIS militants also tortured and beat him and the two other ministry workers before all three men and the boy were crucified.
The group died beside signs the ISIS militants had put up identifying them as 'infidels.'
On the same day eight other Christians from the village, including two women, were taken to another site and were asked the same questions before a crowd.
The two women, who were aged 29 and 33, were then reportedly raped by the extremists in front of the crowd before all eight were beheaded.
Christian Aid reports that as the two women and six men knelt before they were beheaded, they were all praying loudly.
After they were beheaded, their bodies were hung on crosses,
Patrick Sookhdeo, founder of Barnabas Fund, a charity which seeks to help Syrian Christians, told the Daily Express: 'It is like going back 1,000 years seeing the barbarity that Christians are having to live under - I think we are dealing with a group which makes Nazism pale in comparison and I think they have lost all respect for human life.
'Crucifying these people is sending a message and they are using forms of killing which they believe have been sanctioned by Sharia law.
'For them what they are doing is perfectly normal and they don't see a problem with it. It is that religious justification which is so appalling.'

Syrian Army's Elite Forces Seize New Areas in Deir Ezzur
Oct 06, 2015
The Syrian elite forces seized four concentration centers of the ISIL in a surprise attack near Deir Ezzur airport.
The ISIL terrorists have tried to take control of areas in Deir Ezzur province over the past month, but they have failed due to the resistance of the Syrian army and popular forces.
On Monday, the Syrian air force hit ISIL positions and movements in the Eastern countryside of Deir Ezzur.
The Syrian fighter jets pounded the terrorists' concentration centers in the villages of al-Mraeyeh, al-Jafrah and Hatlah, killing a group of ISIL terrorists and destroying their machinegun-equipped vehicles, weapons and ammunition.
The Syrian army also foiled a car bomb attack targeting a military post in al-Howaiqa neighborhood in Deir Ezzur city.
On Saturday, the Syrian army troops killed over 150 ISIL terrorists in operations in Deir Ezzur province.
The army clashed with the ISIL terrorists on the outskirts of the neighborhoods of al-Rasafa, al-Rashidyia, al-Ommal and al-Sina’a in Deir Ezzur city, inflicting heavy losses on them, field sources said.
The sources added that more than 150 ISIL terrorists were killed in the operations in Deir Ezzur and its countryside. A number of their vehicles with all the ammunition and machineguns on board were also destroyed.

Iraqi Forces Seize Saudi Military Vehicles, Ammunition, Equipment from ISIL in Samarra
Oct 06, 2015
The seizure was made by Soraya al-Salam, a subordinate of Hashd al-Shaabi forces, after fierce clashes with the Takfiri terrorists.
This is not the first time that the Iraqi forces seize Saudi-supplied weapons, equipment and vehicles from the ISIL in Al-Anbar and Salahuddin provinces. The Iraqi army had previously seized similar military items in the Southern parts of Tikrit and al-Anbar province, that had been supplied by Saudi Arabia.
Sources had earlier informed that Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey had agreed on supplying the terrorists in Syria and Iraq with different kinds of weapons.
In February, a senior Iraqi provincial official lashed out at the western countries and their regional allies for supporting Takfiri terrorists in Iraq, revealing that US and Israeli-made weapons have been discovered from the areas purged of ISIL terrorists.
“We have discovered weapons made in the US, European countries and Israel from the areas liberated from ISIL's control in Al-Baqdadi region,” the Al-Ahad news website quoted Head of Al-Anbar Provincial Council Khalaf Tarmouz as saying.
He noted that the weapons made by the European countries and Israel were discovered from the terrorists in the Eastern parts of the city of Ramadi.
Meantime, Head of Iraqi Parliament’s National Security and Defense Committee Hakem al-Zameli also disclosed that the anti-ISIL coalition’s planes have dropped weapons and foodstuff for the ISIL in Salahuddin, Al-Anbar and Diyala provinces.
In January, al-Zameli underlined that the coalition is the main cause of ISIL’s survival in Iraq.
“There are proofs and evidence for the US-led coalition’s military aid to ISIL terrorists through air(dropped cargoes),” he told FNA at the time.
He noted that the members of his committee have already proved that the US planes have dropped advanced weaponry, including anti-aircraft weapons, for the ISIL, and that it has set up an investigation committee to probe into the matter.
“The US drops weapons for the ISIL on the excuse of not knowing about the whereabouts of the ISIL positions and it is trying to distort the reality with its allegations.
He noted that the committee had collected the data and the evidence provided by eyewitnesses, including Iraqi army officers and the popular forces, and said, “These documents are given to the investigation committee … and the necessary measures will be taken to protect the Iraqi airspace.”
Also in January, another senior Iraqi legislator reiterated that the US-led coalition is the main cause of ISIL’s survival in Iraq.
“The international coalition is only an excuse for protecting the ISIL and helping the terrorist group with equipment and weapons,” Jome Divan, who is member of the al-Sadr bloc in the Iraqi parliament, said.
He said the coalition’s support for the ISIL is now evident to everyone, and continued, “The coalition has not targeted ISIL’s main positions in Iraq.”
In Late December, Iraqi Parliamentary Security and Defense Commission MP disclosed that a US plane supplied the ISIL terrorist organization with arms and ammunition in Salahuddin province.
MP Majid al-Gharawi stated that the available information pointed out that US planes are supplying ISIL organization, not only in Salahuddin province, but also other provinces, Iraq TradeLink reported.
He added that the US and the international coalition are “not serious in fighting against the ISIL organization, because they have the technological power to determine the presence of ISIL gunmen and destroy them in one month”.
Gharawi added that “the US is trying to expand the time of the war against the ISIL to get guarantees from the Iraqi government to have its bases in Mosul and Anbar provinces.”
Salahuddin security commission also disclosed that “unknown planes threw arms and ammunition to the ISIL gunmen Southeast of Tikrit city”.
Also in Late December, a senior Iraqi lawmaker raised doubts about the seriousness of the anti-ISIL coalition led by the US, and said that the terrorist group still received aids dropped by unidentified aircraft.
“The international coalition is not serious about air strikes on ISIL terrorists and is even seeking to take out the popular (voluntary) forces from the battlefield against the Takfiris so that the problem with ISIL remains unsolved in the near future,” Nahlah al-Hababi told FNA.
“The ISIL terrorists are still receiving aids from unidentified fighter jets in Iraq and Syria,” she added.
Hababi said that the coalition’s precise airstrikes are launched only in those areas where the Kurdish Pishmarga forces are present, while military strikes in other regions are not so much precise.
In late December, the US-led coalition dropped aids to the Takfiri militants in an area North of Baghdad.
Field sources in Iraq told al-Manar that the international coalition airplanes dropped aids to the terrorist militants in Balad, an area which lies in Salahuddin province North of Baghdad.
In October, a high-ranking Iranian commander also slammed the US for providing aid supplies to ISIL, adding that the US claims that the weapons were mistakenly airdropped to ISIL were untrue.
“The US and the so-called anti-ISIL coalition claim that they have launched a campaign against this terrorist and criminal group – while supplying them with weapons, food and medicine in Jalawla region (a town in Diyala Governorate, Iraq). This explicitly displays the falsity of the coalition’s and the US’ claims,” Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Brigadier General Massoud Jazayeri said.
The US claimed that it had airdropped weapons and medical aid to Kurdish fighters confronting the ISIL in Kobani, near the Turkish border in Northern Syria.
The US Defense Department said that it had airdropped 28 bundles of weapons and supplies, but one of them did not make it into the hands of the Kurdish fighters.
Video footage later showed that some of the weapons that the US airdropped were taken by ISIL militants.
The Iranian commander insisted that the US had the necessary intelligence about ISIL’s deployment in the region and that their claims to have mistakenly airdropped weapons to them are as unlikely as they are untrue.

Russia says claims its jets hit Syria’s Palmyra ‘absolute lie’
6 October 2015
The Russian defence ministry on Tuesday angrily dismissed reports that its planes had launched air strikes against the Syrian city of Palmyra as false, the TASS news agency reported.
“All reports by foreign media that Russian planes allegedly struck the city of Palmyra are an absolute lie,” Major-General Igor Konashenkov, a spokesman for the ministry, was quoted as saying.
“Our planes in Syria do not strike populated areas and specially ones with architectural monuments.”
Syrian state television and a monitoring group said earlier on Tuesday that Russian jets had hit Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) targets in Palmyra.
“The Russian air force in coordination with the Syrian air force targeted positions held by the Islamic State group in and around the city of Palmyra,” state television said, citing a military source.
It said the strikes had destroyed “20 armored vehicles, three ammunition warehouses and three rocket launchers.”

Saudi hackers bare Daesh ‘love affairs’
October 07, 2015
RIYADH — A Saudi hacker group, Cyber of Emotion, has exposed several Daesh (the so-called IS) online users and revealed their identities.
The group launched its anti-Daesh campaign on Sept. 28 and has so far revealed the several Daesh supporters living in the Kingdom. The leader of the hacker group told Al-Watan that a majority of Daesh supporters in the Kingdom were women. The group hacked into multiple Daesh electronic mail accounts and a peep into their inbox messages showed that that the terrorists are having love affairs with the women who support them locally.
The leader also revealed that he and his team members are receiving death threats from Daesh.
“We targeted them specifically to try to stop their dangerous and deviant ideas from spreading in Saudi society. Young men who never traveled abroad were involved in most of the terrorist attacks in the Kingdom. They were recruited online through internet and social media,” he said.
Volunteers
He said that his group members are young Saudis possessing unique skills in technology and programming. The members decided to utilize their skills to serve their country and fight those wanting to break the Kingdom apart and defame its name. “We’re all volunteers and we’re not looking for fame or fortune. The electronic war we unleashed on Daesh targets their accounts and anyone affiliated with them. We will try hard to eliminate them and save our country from their evil designs,” said Cyber of Emotions leader. He welcomed any other organizations or individuals who would like to participate in their campaign.

Investigators emphasize safety measures at Grand Mosque
October 06, 2015
JEDDAH – The Investigation and Public Prosecution Authority is reviewing Civil Defense reports on the Grand Mosque crane crash that killed 111 people and injured 238 others. Three investigators recently visited the site of the accident and recommended hiring crane safety experts and making sure that the project engineers fulfill precaution and safety measures.
A source informed Al-Watan newspaper that the investigators recorded the process of interrogating engineers from Saudi Binladin Group. The people in question provided all the required paperwork for the crane. The first round of field investigation resulted in several observations: Strong winds accompanied by lack of precautionary measures were the main reasons that pushed the crane down.
Field trips
The source said that until recently the authority did not receive any public claims of private rights. “The investigation team plans to conduct other field trips to the accident site whenever required. They must gather all information needed to identify those involved in the accident and hold them accountable,” the source said. The charges will include negligence, violations of safety measures and the loss of life and damaging of property.
Criminal responsibility
Lawyer and former member of IPA Assim Al-Mulla told Al-Watan that the responsibility for the accident lies on all people working on the project. He said that everyone who is involved and evidence proves his intentional negligence must bear the criminal responsibility and that includes technicians, workers, engineers and even the crane operator and the project supervisors. Everyone is subject to criminal punishment.

11 Chadian soldiers killed in Boko Haram attack
October 07, 2015
N'DJAMENA - Boko Haram militants attacked Chadian soldiers on Tuesday, killing 11 and wounding 13, a Chadian security source said, in the latest deadly raid by the militants despite a regional offensive against them.
The source said 17 Boko Haram fighters also died in the fighting following the pre-dawn strike near the Nigerian border and Lake Chad. "Boko Haram members attacked our positions at 4:30 am (0330 GMT) in Kaiga Ngouboua about two kilometres (about a mile) from the Nigerian border," the source said.
"This surprise attack claimed the lives of 11 soldiers and wounded 13 (and) 17 Boko Haram fighters were killed." "The attackers were pushed back and the army is continuing search operations in the zone."
Since the start of the year, the Chadian army has been on the front line of a regional military operation against Boko Haram whose attacks have spread from northeast Nigeria, its traditional stronghold, to the neighbouring countries of Chad, Niger and Cameroon.
Boko Haram, which is affiliated with the Islamic State group operating in Syria and Iraq, has been hit hard by the offensive, losing territory, but has launched attacks and bombings in response.

Sheikh Zakzaky explained further that majority of people are good, it is only small section that are bad and are left to run the affairs.
He therefore said reform cannot be expected from a people who spoilt and destroyed almost everything. He noted that desired change and reform can only be expected from good people ‘it is duty and responsibility on each and every one of us to contribute towards desired change and reform as neither a people will be sent from outside the country nor angels will be sent to correct things. It is our responsibility to do it for the betterment of future generations’
On the importance of Sallah Feast gathering, the leader said discussing about things as they affect people during such gathering really make impact. He called on every individual to give his/her contribution sincerely to the best of capacity as there is good hope for desired change one day.

Nigerian Muslim leaders urged people to shun violence
October 6, 2015
As world Muslims prepare to welcome the new Hijri year, a Nigerian Muslim leader has advised Muslims to emulate the Islamic teachings and morals of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as their goal and mission to be followed.
The Imam also urged Muslims and non-Muslims to shun violence and any act capable of jeopardizing the peace of the nation.
"You must have the fear of Allah and behaving in the most acceptable manner to your fellow human being," the Amir of the Muslim Congress (TMC), Imam Luqmon Abdul Raheem, was quoted as saying by Pulse Nigeria daily .
"Let them revive the teachings of the Prophet by preaching peace wherever they find themselves," he added.
Abdul Raheem also asked the faithful to learn how to forgive, stressing that "Allah himself forgives."

London, SEC to strengthen Islamic finance in Nigeria
OCTOBER 7, 2015
The Securities and Exchange Commission and the City of London on Tuesday pledged to work together to deepen Islamic finance in Nigeria in order to bring financial inclusion to Nigerian Muslims and non-Muslims averse to traditional financial system and products.
The Lord Mayor of London, Mr. Alderman Yarrow, and the Director-General of Securities and Exchange Commission, Mr. Mounir Gwarzo, made the pledge at a Roundtable meeting with Nigerian regulators on non-interest finance in Abuja on Tuesday.
Yarrow said London with six Islamic banks and another 20 lenders currently offering Islamic financial products and services had the capacity to help Nigeria to deepen its Islamic financial system.
He said, “We want our Nigerian friends and partners to see London as Nigeria’s international companion whatever type of expertise is required. From looking at Nigeria’s legal framework, to helping to up skill your young, dynamic and ambitious population, London has the expertise, the variety and the capacity to help. And most of all, we offer the willingness.
“Only a few months ago, UK’s Chancellor of the Exchequer – which is really the name of our Finance Minister – stood beside me and the Governor of the Bank of England and he spoke about the importance of Islamic finance.
“He has made regulatory and fiscal changes making it easier to establish Islamic banks, offer Shariah-compliant products and in general enable British Muslims to engage with the financial system in a way consistent with their faith. Islamic finance is really one of the UK’s strengths.”
He added, “The UK is the leading centre for Islamic finance outside the Muslim world. And it is our tradition to stand alongside Dubai and Kuala Lumpur as the main global hubs for Islamic finance. Britain became the first country outside the Muslim world to issue an Islamic bond or ‘simul’ last year. The 200m pound bond attracted healthy investor interest and was the first step in encouraging wider investment.
“The UK government has supported that effort. But two things were universally agreed on, Islamic finance will be massive and it’s here to stay.
“That is equally true here in Nigeria with about 88 million Muslims and 39 per cent of the adult population unbanked. There is a huge opportunity to offer Islamic finance as an alternative investment and finance model for both Muslims and non-Muslims alike. I am here as an ambassador for UK services.”
At the Roundtable, Gwarzo, who was represented by the Executive Commissioner, Corporate Services at SEC, Mr. Zakawanu Garuba, said the commission was considering modalities for setting up a Sharia advisory council as a body of experts to advise it on non-interest product applications.

DR Congo authorities ‘hired thugs’ to attack protesters
October 07, 2015
KINSHASA - Top security and ruling party officials in the Democratic Republic of Congo appear to have "hired thugs" to attack peaceful demonstrators last month in Kinshasa, Human Rights Watch said Tuesday.
"On September 15, 2015, (armed youths) brutally attacked a public meeting organised by political opposition leaders to call for President Joseph Kabila to step down after his constitutionally mandated two-term limit ends in December 2016," the New York-based watchdog said in a report after observing the protest.
At least 12 demonstrators were wounded, while one of the attackers died after protestors began to fight back.
When police officers took his corpse to the morgue, they ordered staff there to tell nobody and labelled it "a body of the state", the report said.
Several men who said they took part in the attack with sticks and clubs told HRW that they were among more than 100 youths recruited by senior security officials and Kabila's People's Party for Reconstruction and Democracy (PPRD) and paid some $65 (58 euros).
After a night in a military base, these recruits were driven to the scene of the protest.
"We were told to start attacking the demonstrators and create disorder as soon as one of the opposition leaders insulted President Kabila," a participant said.
Government spokesman Lambert Mende denounced the findings of the rights organisation as "politically motivated" and "not credible".
"We're interested in any denunciation based on verifiable facts to enable the judiciary to do its work," Mende told AFP.
Under the constitution of the vast central African nation, Kabila is barred from becoming a candidate in a presidential poll due in November 2016.
Opposition parties and a part of the presidential majority in parliament accuse Kabila of seeking ways to cling to office, including postponing the election.
Witnesses told HRW that Kinshasa's police chief, General Celestin Kanyama, was "among at least three senior officials at the recruitment meeting the night before the demonstration", the report said.

Tunisia busts ISIS recruitment cells, arrests 11 suspected recruits
6 October 2015
The Tunisian police has broken up three “cells” that were recruiting fighters for Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and arrested 11 people suspected of trying to join ISIS in Libya, the Tunisian Ministry of Interior said.
Tunisia has been on high alert against possible attacks since Islamist gunmen killed 21 tourists in March at the popular Bardo Museum in Tunis. In June, a man shot dead 38 foreigners at a beach hotel in the southern city of Sousse.
ISIS claimed responsibility for both attacks. Officials said all three attackers were trained in jihadist camps over the border in Libya, where political chaos has allowed Islamist militants to grow in strength.

Putin tells troops to capture al-Baghdadi alive
By ZABIHULLAH MOOSAKHAIL
Oct 07 2015
Russian President Vladimir Putin has asked his forces fighting against IS in Syria that he wants Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the group’s leader, alive.
The Middle-East Panorama website reports that Putin wants the dead body of al-Baghdadi displayed in case he is killed.
The website made the announcement referring to aware sources.
Russia has been pounding IS positions in Syria claiming heavy casualties to IS militants. Russian officials say that the airstrike will continue.
“We will not only continue strikes… We will also increase their intensity.” said Andrei Kartapolov from the Russian army.
Russia is also mulling to complete 150,000 soldiers in Syria in a bid to wipe out the Islamic State.

Russia ready to consider anti-Daesh operation in Iraq: Parliament speaker
Oct 7, 2015
Russia says it would consider an airborne operation against Daesh Takfiri terrorists in Iraq if it receives a formal request from the Arab country’ authorities for conducting such a military campaign.
“In case of an official address from Iraq to the Russian Federation, the leaders of our country would study the political and military expediency of our air force’s participation in an air operation. Presently we have not received such an address,” Valentina Matviyenko, the Russian Federation Council speaker, told reporters during an official visit to Jordan on Tuesday, RT reported.
Matviyenko’s remarks came three days after Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said that he had the government’s approval to welcome Russia’s air campaign against terrorists inside Iraq. It has been the second time Abadi has welcomed Russians to conduct anti-terror air campaign against Daesh in his country since September 30, when Russia launched its military campaign against Takfiri terrorists operating in Syria upon a request from the Damascus government.
Daesh Takfiri militants are seen in an undisclosed location in Iraq.
In a meeting with Abdur-Rauf Rawabdeh, the president of the Jordanian Senate, Matviyenko also emphasized that “Russia has no other political objectives and no interests other than the defeat of ISIL," adding that Moscow's objectives make it different from "other nations that participate in another coalition.”

German media seek police protection after anti-Islam protest assault
October 06, 2015
BERLIN — German media on Tuesday demanded police protection after journalists came under attack by anti-Islam protesters, saying those responsible for such assaults must be brought to justice.
Journalists covering the PEGIDA movement’s weekly demonstrations on Monday evenings have been increasingly subjected to verbal assaults such as being called the “lying press.”
But last week, the incidents turned physical with one reporter punched in the face and another kicked at.
Regional media groups and journalist associations from the eastern states of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia issued a joint statement urging an end to the violence.
“The constant chant of ‘liar press’ poisons the atmosphere, and can no longer be accepted,” they said.
“Those who attack and hurt journalists must be brought to justice. “The recent assaults should get politicians thinking about how PEGIDA events as well as other similar groups should be dealt with,” said the media associations.
They added that they “expect the interior ministers and police to prevent attacks on journalists.”

Russia’s Turkey air violations no accident: Nato
October 07, 2015
BEIRUT - Nato’s chief accused Russia on Tuesday of deliberately violating Turkey’s airspace during bombing raids on Syria, as President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned Moscow it risked losing an ally.
Turkey said its jets were harassed and put on radar lock by an unidentified MIG-29 on Monday - the latest in a series of confrontations near the border with its war-torn neighbour.
The Nato member accuses Russia of violating its airspace at least twice over the weekend, and has warned it will activate its rules of military engagement if such intrusions are repeated.
In his toughest remarks yet against Russia in the crisis, Erdogan accused Moscow and its ally Iran of working to maintain the “state terror” of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. “It is of course not possible to remain patient about this,” said Erdogan, referring to the incursions into Turkish air space. “If Russia loses a friend like Turkey with whom it has a lot of cooperation it is going to lose a lot of things. It needs to know this,” he added.
Nato has criticised the violations as “irresponsible” and urged Moscow to end raids against civilians and Syria’s opposition forces. On Tuesday, it stepped up the rhetoric, insisting the violations were intentional. “For us, this does not look like an accident, it is a serious violation,” Nato chief Jens Stoltenberg said at a press conference in Brussels. He said such incursions were “unacceptable” and “may create a dangerous situation. It is important to make sure this does not happen again.”
Turkey said it had summoned the Russian ambassador to Ankara for the second time in as many days to protest a violation of its airspace on Sunday.
Ankara said that on Saturday its fighter jets intercepted a Russian warplane and forced it to turn back. Then on Sunday, two Turkish F-16 jets were “harassed” by a MIG-29 plane, according to the army.
Russia has acknowledged the Saturday incident, which it blamed on “unfavourable weather conditions”. “There is no need to look for some conspiracy theories,” the defence ministry said of the incident, which it added lasted “several seconds”.
Russian warplanes have been carrying out raids in Syria since Wednesday, targeting what they call “terrorist” groups, though rebels and their backers accuse Moscow of hitting a range of opposition fighters, not just militants.
Syrian state television said Tuesday that Russian warplanes had struck IS targets in and around the ancient city of Palmyra for the first time.
A military source cited by Syrian state television said Russian forces struck the city of Palmyra and its outskirts, “destroying 20 armoured vehicles, three ammunition warehouses, and three rocket launchers.” The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based monitor, said the Palmyra strikes killed at least 15 IS fighters and injured dozens more.
Late Monday, Russia’s defence ministry said its jets had struck 10 IS targets in Damascus, Aleppo, Homs and Idlib provinces throughout the day.

Russia conducts intense raids on Syria militants: Monitor
Oct 7, 2015
Russia has conducted “intense” airstrikes against the militants in Syria as Syrian forces “for the first time” carry out coordinated ground attacks on positions being targeted by Russian warplanes, according to a monitoring group.
The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that Russian warplanes bombarded at least four locations belonging to the militants in the central Syrian province of Hama, and three other locations in northwestern province of Idlib on Wednesday.
The UK-based group did not give any detail on the number of the possible casualties; it, however, said that the attacks in the early hours of Wednesday were “more intense than usual.”
Russian airstrikes, Syrian ground attack coordination
It was also said that Syrian government forces on the ground attacked the positions of the terrorists being targeted by Russian fighter jets in Hama.
“For the first time the strikes were accompanied by fighting on the ground between regime forces and rebels,” said the director of the UK-based group, Rami Abdel Rahman.

“There is no information yet of any (government) advances on the ground, but the air strikes have hit vehicles and insurgent bases,” he said, adding, there was also heavy use of surface-to-surface shelling by the government in the province.
Moscow began its military campaign against terrorists in Syria on September 30 upon a request from the Damascus government, shortly after the upper house of the Russian parliament gave President Vladimir Putin the mandate to use military force in Syria.
Meanwhile, a Russian Defense Ministry spokesman said that Moscow could implement US proposals aiming to coordinate its strikes in Syria with the US-led coalition purporting to be also fighting Daesh.

Russia's Muslims divided over Syria air strikes
By Olga Ivshina
7 October 2015
Russia's Muslim community has never been united, and Russia's air strikes in Syria are threatening to stoke existing tensions.
The air campaign began a week ago, with Moscow declaring it was targeting positions of so-called Islamic State (IS) and other Islamists.
But Turkey and other Nato allies fear the principal targets are Syrian opposition groups fighting President Bashar al-Assad.
Russia's Muslims tend to fall into three camps: those who support the Kremlin campaign, those who condemn President Assad and his allies but back actions against IS, and those who support IS.
More than 11 million Russians are Muslim, according to official figures that date back to 2011. But experts believe the true figure could be as high as 20 million - nearly 14% of the population.
Divided community
Russia has more than 80 muftis who lead its Muslim community, but their influence and attitudes vary significantly.
Almost 6,400 of Russia's 7,000 mosques are controlled by muftis who are more or less loyal to state officials.
They supported President Vladimir Putin's decision to start air strikes on Syria - though in their statements pro-Kremlin muftis did not comment on Western allegations that many of the operations targeted moderate opposition groups.

High-stakes gamble Risks of air forces from Russia, Syria and Nato operating in close proximity
Why? What? How? Five things you need to know about Russia's involvement
What can Russia's air force do? The US-led coalition has failed to destroy IS. Can Russia do any better?
The close ties behind Russia's intervention
But some religious leaders in Russia do question Mr Putin's decision to strike.
"We don't know exactly where the bombs landed, so we can't be sure of anything," mufti Nafigulla Ashirov told the BBC. "However if Russian planes were targeting one of the sides of the civil conflict rather than IS positions - this can't be justified."
"IS is a force which came to Syria from abroad and people should resist it. However others shouldn't interfere in the civil war between pro-government troops and the opposition. This is an internal matter for the Syrian people.
"And this conflict should not be mixed up with resistance to IS," Mr Ashirov explains.
Uncomfortable truths
Most of Syria's opposition fighters are Sunni Muslims - like most of the Muslims who live in Russia.

‘Racist’ far-right party Britain First horrifies in BBC documentary
OCTOBER 7, 2015
FAR-RIGHT political party Britain First has been attacked as racist, Islamophobic and fascist after a BBC documentary on the group aired last night.
We Want Our Country Back followed the “patriotic” organisation as it fought to have Islam banned in the UK. In one scene, deputy leader Jayda Fransen says, “Where there are Muslims there is radicalisation”, and in another, members shout, “Go back to the desert” from a car.
Horrified viewers in Britain denounced the Christian group as “xenophobic”, “bigots” and “uneducated”, distancing themselves from the anti-Muslim message.
“If it walks like a fascist and talks like a fascist, it’s a fascist,” wrote Twitter user Mozes.
“The people who divide our communities aren’t migrants or people of Islamic faith, they are Britain First,” tweeted Liam Beattie.
But the organisation hit back hard against the BBC, with leader Paul Golding calling the broadcaster “heavily left-wing and biased” and dismissing the documentary as a “hatchet-job”.
“Where there are Muslims there is radicalisation,” said deputy leader Jayda Fransen in the BBC documentary.
“Where there are Muslims there is radicalisation,” said deputy leader Jayda Fransen in the BBC documentary.
“Even by BBC standards it was a shocking display of tax payers money financing a piece of extreme anti-British-Anti-Christian propaganda,” read the Britain First Facebook page, which has almost one million likes.
The party’s supporters agreed, with Twitter user @jamesefc_1878 calling the program “Typical #BBC BS” and user @dannymckiernan1 adding: “Country is f***ed another 50 years won’t be a Christian in site [sic].”
Other posts on the Britain First Facebook page include a video titled “Ungrateful migrants refuse free food!”, adverts for rallies against proposed mosques and anti-EU messages. The group’s website reads: “Support our struggle for survival. Our people are already a minority in London and several other cities.”

Immigration officials in Sweden say that the number of migrants who arrived last month more than doubled over the previous month to 24,000, bringing this year's number at the end of September to more than 73,000.
In neighboring Finland, officials said some 11,000 asylum-seekers arrived last month, bringing this year's figure to more than 19,600 so far, up from a 2014 total of 3,650.
In Norway, the number of migrants grew fourfold last month to 4,900 compared with September 2014, with 13,250 so far this year — 4,500 more than at the same time last year.
The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration says the 2015 total could reach 25,000

Romania's prime minister says his country has not been confronted by a large influx of asylum-seekers and should be open to receiving more.
Victor Ponta said Monday Romania has received 944 asylum requests this year, of which 18 were in August. He called it "an insignificant" increase compared to the previous year.
Speaking to lawmakers in Parliament, Ponta said it was easier to support the efforts of countries who are willing to accept migrants "than to build walls, fences."
He said Romania should increase its allowance to refugees which is currently 3 lei (70 eurocents, 80 U.S. cents) a day and migrants and refugees should have access to health care, education and jobs.
He also criticized Russian airstrikes on Syria, saying they would aggravate the situation.
Romania was one of four eastern European countries to oppose a European Union resettlement plan for 120,000 asylum-seekers. President Klaus Iohannis now says that Romania can cope with the extra migrants it has been asked to take, and merely disagreed with mandatory quotas.

Greek authorities say they have freed 34 men, women and children who allegedly had been locked up in a cramped central Athens flat by a mostly Afghan gang of extortionists that preyed on newly arrived immigrants.
Greece is the main arrival point for hundreds of thousands of refugees and economic migrants seeking a better life in wealthy European countries. Most pay smugglers to bring them in frail boats from Turkey to the Greek islands, and then converge on Athens before heading off overland through the Balkans.
Police say they arrested one suspect in the weekend operation, and are seeking five others, including an Egyptian man.
Police said Monday that the suspect offered Afghan migrants accommodation, bus tickets and forged documents. But once in the flat, migrants faced imprisonment and beatings unless they paid the gang.

NATO and US Forces Commander in Afghanistan Says Kundoz Airstrike Was A Mistake
Oct 07 2015
General John Campbell, the commander of NATO’s Resolute Support mission and US forces in Afghanistan says that the fatal airstrike at MSF hospital in northern Afghanistan was a mistake.
In his testimony to the Senate Armed Services Committee on Tuesday, Gen. Campbell said that the decision to conduct the airstrike was made within the US chain of command.
“To be clear, the decision to provide aerial fires was a US decision made within the US chain of command,” he said, adding that “A hospital was mistakenly struck. We would never intentionally target a protected medical facility.”
The charity organization Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) announced following the strike that it is leaving Kundoz province.
At least 22 people including MSF staffers were killed and several others wounded in the strike that faced international condemnation with MSF and UN suggesting independent investigation into the incident.

Mohammad Javed, the 26-year-old chief of the military wing of Jamaat-ul Mujahideen, was arrested on Monday night along with four other members of the group in the port city of Chittagong.
Senior police official Babul Akter said Javed was killed while he was helping police recover more weapons in Chittagong.
"The grenade exploded when the team was trying to recover it from a drain," Akter said. Two policemen suffered minor wounds, he added.
Bangladesh has been convulsed by rising Islamist violence over the past year in which four online critics of religious militancy were hacked to death, a U.S. citizen among them. Attacks on foreigners are rare in Bangladesh.
The South Asian nation is on alert after two foreigners were shot dead last week in attacks claimed by the Islamic State group, although police said there was no evidence the group was behind the attacks.

AP Investigation: Nuclear smugglers sought extremist buyers
October 07, 2015
Over the pulsating beat at an exclusive nightclub, the arms smuggler made his pitch to a client: 2.5 million euros for enough radioactive cesium to contaminate several city blocks.
It was earlier this year, and the two men were plotting their deal at an unlikely spot: the terrace of Cocos Prive, a dance club and sushi bar in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova.
"You can make a dirty bomb, which would be perfect for the Islamic State," the smuggler said. "If you have a connection with them, the business will go smoothly."
But the smuggler, Valentin Grossu, wasn't sure the client was for real - and he was right to worry. The client was an informant, and it took some 20 meetings to persuade Grossu that he was an authentic Islamic State representative. Eventually, the two men exchanged cash for a sample in a sting operation that landed Grossu in jail.
The previously unpublicized case is one of at least four attempts in five years in which criminal networks with suspected Russian ties sought to sell radioactive material to extremists through Moldova, an investigation by The Associated Press has found.
One investigation uncovered an attempt to sell bomb-grade uranium to a real buyer from the Middle East, the first known case of its kind.
In that operation, wiretaps and interviews with investigators show, a middleman for the gang repeatedly ranted with hatred for America as he focused on smuggling the essential material for an atomic bomb and blueprints for a dirty bomb to a Middle Eastern buyer.
In wiretaps, videotaped arrests, photographs of bomb-grade material, documents and interviews, AP found that smugglers are explicitly targeting buyers who are enemies of the West.
The developments represent the fulfillment of a long-feared scenario in which organized crime gangs are trying to link up with groups such as the Islamic State and al-Qaida - both of which have made clear their ambition to use weapons of mass destruction. The sting operations involved a partnership between the FBI and a small group of Moldovan investigators, who over five years went from near total ignorance of the black market to wrapping up four sting operations. Informants and police posing as connected gangsters penetrated the smuggling networks, using old-fashioned undercover tactics as well as high-tech gear from radiation detectors to clothing threaded with recording devices.
But their successes were undercut by striking shortcomings: Kingpins got away, and those arrested evaded long prison sentences, sometimes quickly returning to nuclear smuggling, AP found.
For strategic reasons, in most of the operations arrests were made after samples of nuclear material had been obtained rather than the larger quantities. That means that if smugglers did have access to the bulk of material they offered, it remains in criminal hands.
The repeated attempts to peddle radioactive materials signal that a thriving nuclear black market has emerged in an impoverished corner of Eastern Europe on the fringes of the former Soviet Union. Moldova, which borders Romania, is a former Soviet republic.
Moldovan police and judicial authorities shared investigative case files with the AP in an effort to spotlight how dangerous the black market has become.
They say a breakdown in cooperation between Russia and the West means that it is much harder to know whether smugglers are finding ways to move parts of Russia's vast store of radioactive materials.
"We can expect more of these cases," said Constantin Malic, one of the Moldovan investigators. "As long as the smugglers think they can make big money without getting caught, they will keep doing it."
The FBI and the White House declined to comment. The U.S. State Department would not comment on the specifics of the cases.
"Moldova has taken many important steps to strengthen its counter nuclear smuggling capabilities," said Eric Lund, spokesman for the State Department's bureau in charge of nonproliferation. "The arrests made by Moldovan authorities in 2011 for the attempted smuggling of nuclear materials is a good example of how Moldova is doing its part."
Wiretapped conversations exposed plots that targeted the United States, the Moldovan officials said. In one case, a middleman said it was essential the smuggled bomb-grade uranium go to Arabs, said Malic, an investigator in all four sting operations.
"He said: 'I really want an Islamic buyer because they will bomb the Americans.'"
"HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF URANIUM?"
Malic was a 27-year-old police officer when he first stumbled upon the nuclear black market in 2009. He was working on a fraud unit in Chisinau, and had an informant helping police take down a euro counterfeiting ring stretching from the Black Sea to Naples, Italy.
The informant, an aging businessman, casually mentioned to Malic that over the years, contacts had periodically offered him radioactive material.
"Have you ever heard of uranium?" he asked Malic.
Malic was so new to the nuclear racket that he didn't know what uranium was, and had to look it up on Google. He was horrified - "not just for one country," he said, "but for humanity."
"Soon after, the informant received an offer for uranium. At about that time, the U.S. government was starting a program to train Moldovan police in countering the nuclear black market, part of a global multi-million dollar effort.
In Malic's first case, three people were arrested on Aug. 20, 2010, after a sample of the material, a sawed-off piece of a depleted uranium cylinder, was exchanged for cash. That kind of uranium would be difficult to turn into a bomb.
Authorities suspected, but couldn't prove, that the uranium had come from the melted down Chernobyl reactor in Ukraine, Malic said.
Malic transported the seized radioactive material in a matchbox on the passenger seat of his car. It did not occur to him that the uranium should have been stored in a shielded container to protect him from possible radiation.
When FBI agents came to collect it, they were stunned when he simply proffered the matchbox in his uncovered hand: "Take it," Malic said.
"Madman!" the American officers exclaimed.
The uranium, fortunately, turned out not to be highly toxic.
PLUTONIUM FOR FREE
Several months later, a former KGB informant, Teodor Chetrus, called Malic's source, the Moldovan businessman. Chetrus told him he had uranium to sell, but was looking for a Middle Eastern buyer.
Unlike Malic's first case, this one involved highly enriched uranium, the type that can be used to make a nuclear bomb.
Smarter and more cautious than the members of the previous gang, Chetrus was a bit of a paradox to the investigators. He was educated and well dressed, yet still lived in his dilapidated childhood farmhouse in a tiny village on Moldova's border with Ukraine.
In many of the smuggling cases, the ringleaders insulated themselves through a complex network of middlemen who negotiated with buyers in order to shield the bosses from arrest. In this case, Chetrus was the go-between.
But he had his own agenda. Chetrus clung to a Soviet-era hatred of the West, Malic said, repeatedly ranting about how the Americans should be annihilated because of problems he thought they created in the Middle East.
"He said multiple times that this substance must have a real buyer from the Islamic states to make a dirty bomb," Malic said.

Feud over religious views, property in probe focus
October 07, 2015
Law enforcers are investigating whether differences of religious views or feud over property led to the killing of former PDB chairman Khijir Khan, also known as a pir.
Mostak Ahmed, deputy commissioner of Gulshan division of police, said police are yet to find any clue to the murder however.
Khijir was murdered by unidentified assailants in his Maddhya Badda house in the capital on Monday. A case was filed in this connection accusing six to seven unnamed assailants but no one has been arrested so far.
Residents living in the area expressed their surprise that the killers managed to flee even though security in surrounding areas was tightened after the murder of Italian citizen Cesare Tavella in Gulshan on September 28.
They said there were at least three police check points around the victim's house, which is close to the Gulshan lake.
Khijir's nephew Mahbube Alam said, “I don't understand how the killers left the area amid such a tight security.”
Alam said the killers took some gold ornaments, a tablet computer, several expensive mobile phones and some cash from the house.
He added that the victim's body was taken to his hometown in Kushtia for burial.
Khijir's disciples said he ran 22 Khanka Sharifs (places of worship) in different districts. One such Khanka was housed in his six-storey building. They said his father was also a pir.
Khijir used to hold weekly jikir and discussions on the holy Quran and Hadith on Thursdays.
The way Khijir was murdered is similar to the ways four other pirs in the recent past were killed. Islamic extremists were largely blamed for these incidents.
The Daily Star found that five pirs along with six of their family members and assistants were murdered since December 2013.

Yemen PM survives rocket attack
October 07, 2015
ADEN - Yemen's prime minister survived a rocket attack on his hotel as an assault on Aden killed 15 coalition troops and loyalists Tuesday, just weeks after the city was recaptured from rebels.
Prime Minister Khaled Bahah escaped unharmed, but the attack on the Al-Qasr hotel as well as military installations elsewhere in the southern port city left dead 15 Arab soldiers and fighters loyal to his government.
Two rockets struck the heavily fortified multi-storey hotel, setting it alight and causing smoke to billow into the sky, while a third rocket missed its target and splashed into the sea, officials in Aden said.
"Prime Minister Khaled Bahah is in good health and was not harmed," said Nayef al-Bakri, the minister of youth and sports.
"The government will remain in Aden," he added, even after some ministers "were lightly wounded and moved to a safe location" following the attack on the hotel.
Rockets also targeted a nearby barracks used by Saudi-led forces as well as a residence for members of the coalition, according to an AFP photographer, who saw helicopters evacuating casualties from the site.
The attacks by the Iran-backed rebels and their allies "targeted the government headquarters and several military positions (and) left 15 Arab coalition and Yemeni resistance martyrs," said the Emirati WAM news agency.
The agency said four Emirati soldiers were among the coalition forces that were killed and that several others were wounded, taking to 67 the number of UAE soldiers killed so far in the conflict.
The coalition meanwhile issued a statement published on the Saudi SPA news agency saying the attacks killed three Emiratis and one Saudi soldier.
And medics told AFP that two Yemeni guards were killed and 12 were wounded in the attack on Bahah's hotel.
Bahah and several of his ministers had returned to Aden on September 16, two months after loyalist forces supported by Saudi-led air strikes pushed Iran-backed rebels out of the city.
The Huthi rebels seized much of Yemen, including the capital Sanaa, with the help of renegade troops loyal to ousted president Ali Abdullah Saleh.
The country's internationally recognised president, Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi, designated Aden the temporary capital last month when he returned there briefly from neighbouring Saudi Arabia after six months in exile.

Saudi Jets Pound Friendly Troops in Yemen, Kill Tens of Pro-Hadi Militias
Oct 06, 2015
"The Saudi fighter jets struck a gathering of fugitive president's mercenaries in Abyan province," local sources in the province told FNA on Tuesday.
The sources noted that heavy clashes are currently underway in Abyan province between the Yemeni forces and the pro-Saudi militias.
The Saudi airstrikes on friendly troops has become a rather routine happening in the Yemen war. On July 28, the Saudi warplanes mistakenly hit pro-Hadi militias in Yemen's province of Lahij, killing 15 and wounding another 50.
In early August, the Saudi warplanes also mistakenly hit the pro-Hadi militias in the Southern Yemeni city of Zinjibar, and killed at least 20 militants.

Israel demolishes homes of two Palestinians
07 October 2015
JERUSALEM: Israel on Tuesday demolished the homes of two Palestinians behind attacks last year after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged an iron fist against mounting unrest.
The demolitions came with Netanyahu under increasing pressure from right-wing members of his coalition, which holds only a one-seat majority, as clashes have spread in recent days following the murder of four Israelis. The spike in violence has brought international calls for calm, with concerns the unrest could spin out of control and memories of previous Palestinian uprisings still fresh.

U.N. calls for Israeli probe after deadly clashes
7 October 2015
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged Israel on Tuesday to conduct a full investigation of recent clashes in Occupied Jerusalem and the West Bank and criticized the demolition of Palestinian houses.
Ban said a “prompt and transparent” probe of the recent violence in which a 13-year-old was killed by Israeli soldiers would serve to determine “whether the use of force was proportional.”
More clashes erupted on Tuesday, including in Bethlehem following the funeral of the teenage boy. Four Palestinians have died in recent days.
Ban said that the latest clashes were “yet another worrisome sign of violence potentially spiraling out of control.”

NATO: Russia in Turkish airspace no accident
07 October 2015
NATO's secretary-general on Tuesday rejected Moscow's claim that its military incursion into alliance airspace over Turkey wasn't intentional or important, saying there were two separate incidents and "the violation lasted for a long time."
Turkey's military, meanwhile, said more of its jets patrolling the border with Syria were placed in a radar lock by Russian planes and surface-to-air missile systems.
In Syria, Russian warplanes reportedly continued pounding targets in the country, where the Kremlin has come to the aid of beleaguered ally President Bashar al-Assad.
NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg told a news conference in Brussels that recent breaches of Turkish airspace by Russian warplanes were "very serious"- even dangerous.
IN OPINION: Syria, Russia and the Arabs: Could it get any worse?
"It doesn't look like an accident, and we've seen two of them over the weekend," he added.
In a statement, NATO spokeswoman Carmen Romero said Stoltenberg later confirmed that NATO generals would be contacting their Russian counterparts about the violation of Turkish airspace.
Stoltenberg said NATO is expressly worried that such acts by the Russians could have unforeseen consequences.

Russia: Turkey suggests joint work on Syria
6 October 2015
Turkey suggested to Russia on Tuesday that the two sides should consider creating a joint working group to coordinate actions related to Russia’s air strikes in Syria after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned Moscow against losing Ankara’s friendship.
Igor Konashenkov, a Russian Defense Ministry official told Russian news agencies the Turkish ministry had made the suggestion to a Russian military official attached to the Russian embassy in Istanbul.
Earlier, Erdogan on Tuesday warned Russia against losing Ankara’s friendship, after Russian warplanes twice violated its airspace near the Syrian border.
“If Russia loses a friend like Turkey with whom it has a lot of cooperation it is going to lose a lot of things. It needs to know this,” Erdogan said in Belgium at a press conference alongside Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel broadcast on Turkish television.
In his toughest remarks yet against Russia in the current crisis, Erdogan accused Moscow and its ally Iran of working to maintain the “state terror” of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
His comments came after Russian warplanes twice violated Turkish airspace at the weekend during Moscow’s bombing campaign in Syria aimed at bolstering the Assad regime.
“It is of course not possible to remain patient about this,” said Erdogan, referring to the incursions into Turkish air space.
Erdogan, whose country is NATO’s only majority Muslim member, applauded the reaction of the alliance to Russia’s actions.
The NATO allies said Monday they “strongly protest” the violations by Russia and noted the “extreme danger of such irresponsible behavior.”

BJP MLA Admits Fabricating False Rape Charges Against Muslim Boys
07th October 2015
As the politicisation of the Dadri incident continues, controversial statements made by few of the BJP leaders have adversely affected the ruling party’s image.
One of the media report says, 'BJP MLA Suresh Rana has admitted that he had fabricated rape charges against Muslim boys to teach them lesson for marrying Hindu girls. A Cobrapost sting suggested that that while the inter-faith marriage was consensual, the Muslim boys were charged with rape to teach them a lesson.'
In an interview conducted by a media house, Suresh Rana said, 'Now I will tell you the truth. We charged them with rape, but it wasn’t rape, it was consensual. We slapped a rape case against them to teach them a lesson. The girl wasn’t ready to give a statement against them. If you look at the case in depth, the girl was willing. Three people didn’t take her away by force… Girls are girls…it has been said about them that they will change according to circumstances in five minutes…when she was slapped and coerced, she wrote the FIR (that we wanted).”What do you think?'
Minister of state for Agriculture Sanjeev Balyan said, 'In the beginning, (Muslim) boys would roam around on motorcycles in front of schools and Plus Two Colleges using Hindu names like Sonu, Monu, with a kalawa (sacred thread) tied around their wrists, pretending to be Hindus. A girl who falls in this trap would come to know only later, after eloping with the boy, that she is not with a Hindu. There have been a lot of such cases.'

Islamic halal economy set to grow, says expert
October 7, 2015
DUBAI: The halal economy is set to grow as the world’s Muslim population expands and more products are certified to comply with Islamic sharia law, experts said on Tuesday.
The range of halal products, from goods not containing pork or alcohol to financial and tourism services, is rising as the global Muslim population grows.
“They are growing because we are increasing by 2.5 to 3 percent every year. Islam is the fastest growing religion,” said Muhammad Chaudry, president of the Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America.
He said many products that were sharia-compliant by nature are now being certified as halal, contributing to the increase in the size of the halal economy.
“When we talk about the halal economy growing by 20 percent, it is the conversion from indiscriminate we-don’t-know-what’s-in-it economy to a definitely halal-certified economy,” he told AFP at an Islamic economy forum in Dubai.
The rising demand for halal products has seen businesses, restaurants and hotels across the world cater for the needs of Muslim clients, Chaudry said.
“Halal is a lifestyle. Countries like Japan and Korea are taking the lead to convert their restaurants and hotels into halal-friendly so they can attract more tourists from Muslim countries,” he said.

TPPA: Need for transparency and full details — Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia
October 7, 2015
OCT 7 — The Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM) is very concerned about news that Malaysia has joined 11 other nations in approving the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement in Atlanta, USA. The agreement has serious implications affecting all layers of our society. The details of the agreement are blurred and questionable causing public uneasiness.
ABIM sees the TPPA as a multilateral arrangement being more detrimental than being beneficial. There have been public protests against the TPPA in all of the 11 countries involved.
TPPA is a form of corporate colonization which impinges on national economic sovereignty. One example is that it is understood that a foreign corporation would have the right to challenge and sue the government of Malaysia over any national policy which has a potential to negatively affect the corporation’s business interests.
ABIM urges the government to be more open and responsive in order to address valid criticism before deciding on the final outcome concerning the TPPA.

Another Penang Islamic school complains funding axed over politics
BY OPALYN MOK
October 7, 2015
GEORGE TOWN, Oct 7 — Sekolah Rendah Islam Bahrul Ulum (SRIBU) in the Permatang Pauh federal constituency today joined another Islamic religious school to suggest that politics may have been involved in the DAP-led Penang government’s decision to stop its funding this year.
In a statement, SRIBU board chairman said the school has been receiving funds from the state every year since 2008 but this was suddenly cancelled this year.
“We understand that state executive councillor Datuk Abdul Malik Kassim said the funding is only for poor schools that needed it so we would like to invite him to visit our school to see for himself the poor conditions of the school,” he said.
“The school depends entirely on the low school fees and public contributions, so we have very little funds and really need funding from the state,” he added.
SRIBU, which began operations in 2005, is registered under the Penang Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAIPP) and offers an integrated education system of the Dinniyah and Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Rendah (KSSR) syllabus.
“We hope there was no political agenda in this issue that has victimised SRIBU, its students and parents because the community that supports and attends this school are made up of those from different political backgrounds including PKR, Umno, PAN (Parti Amanah Negara) and even DAP, along with neutral voters,” he said.

AMERICAN AND EUROPEAN RADICAL RIGHT’S ATTACKS ON REFUGEES FUELED BY ANTI-MUSLIM SENTIMENT
October 06, 2015
In the U.S., anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim and white nationalist groups have also taken up the anti-refugee cause in recent weeks, mimicking the talking points of their European counterparts. The unifying message has framed the immigration crisis as a “Muslim invasion,” with many in Europe evoking the name of Charles Martel, the Frenchman who halted the advances of Muslims invading Europe in 732.
And in the U.S., the sentiment has come close to a call for action.
This coming weekend, a loose collective of activists are planning armed protests outside of mosques and other Islamic institutions in over 20 cities. And they have ample backing.
Fueled by the Syrian refugee crisis, a fractured European resettlement agreement, and GOP presidential candidates continuing to demonize Muslims on the campaign trail – and Muslims or those perceived to be Muslims are profiled or targeted for attack, anti-Muslim sentiment in the U.S is in full swing.
It hasn’t helped that some of the leading figureheads in American racism have turned their attention to Muslims.
Jared Taylor, one of the leading American white nationalist ideologues, and editor of the American Renaissance website, released a video on September 11 about Muslim immigration, asking, “Hasn’t there been enough rape? Hasn’t there been enough sex-grooming? Haven’t enough European cities been turned into mosques? Aren’t there enough Shariah-controlled zones?” He went on to claim, “Islam has been Europe’s enemy for over a thousand years. Haven’t we gotten the message?”
Neo-Confederate leaders have also weighed in. Michael Hill, president of the neo-Confederate hate group League of the South (LOS) praised Martel, stating, “[T]oday he would first have to fight his own government (whether in Paris, Berlin, London, Brussels, or Washington) before he could turn his attention to the non-Western invaders.”
Similar pronouncements have been made across the Atlantic.
French white nationalist Guillaume Faye recently wrote, “[T]his unprecedented migratory invasion, which is 80% Muslim, is also part of a strategy (organized by ISIS and Erdogan’s Turkey) to conquer Europe by Islam. Invasive war from the bottom and by cunning, by moral disarmament.”
The phrase “national suicide” has been thrown about by large numbers of European and American white nationalists when discussing the crisis. The racist American online publication American Thinker published an article recently titled, “Expediting National Suicide with 'Refugees.’”
In a recent column on the refugee crisis, white nationalist Pat Buchanan – who has always equated immigration with the death of the West – quipped, “Liberalism is the ideology of Western suicide.”
English white nationalist Paul Weston, formerly of the extremist group English Defense League (EDL) also asked in a recent piece on the racist website Alternative-Right, “Why would any country with a non-suicidal ideology wish to import just one Muslim, let alone millions?”
But with many Western European nations finally making a meaningful effort to accept and care for refugees, the focal point of the issue has shifted slightly towards the U.S.. It is an ironic shift, considering the U.S. has accepted only a paltry number of immigrants in comparison to countries like Germany.
On September 10, the Obama administration announced plans to resettle a further 10,000 Syrian refugees within the next fiscal year. Naturally, the organized anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant movements reacted angrily.

Muslim languages are the fastest growing in America
October 06, 2015
Data from the United States Census Bureau show that languages spoken in Muslim countries are surging into U.S. households due to rapid growth in immigration from Muslim nations.
The Census Bureau's 2014 American Community Survey (ACS) reveals that Arabic and Urdu – Pakistan's national language– are the fastest-growing foreign languages spoken at home, according to a new report by the Center for Immigration Studies.
After five decades of large-scale immigration, a record 63.2 million U.S. residents, or more than one-in-five, speak a language other than English when at home.
Previous reports have shown that the United States is now the second largest Spanish speaking country in the world. But the new census study shows that the fastest-growing foreign languages, in percentage terms, are languages spoken by immigrants from Muslim-majority countries.
Between 2010 and 2014, there was a 29 percent increase in Arabic, a 23 percent increase in Urdu, and a 9 percent jump in Persian, which is spoken in Iran.
