Pakistan Anti-Terrorism Court Sentences Muslim Man To Death For Blasphemous WhatsApp Post

----------

An anti-terrorism court in northwest Pakistan has convicted and sentenced a Muslim man to death after he was accused of posting blasphemous content in a WhatsApp group.

Syed Muhammad Zeeshan was convicted under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act and Anti-Terrorist Act by the court in Peshawar on Friday.

“Accused Syed Muhammad Zeeshan, son of Syed Zakaullah in custody has been convicted and sentenced after being found guilty”, the court order said, a copy of which was obtained by Agence France-Presse.

Zeeshan, who is a resident of the northwest city of Mardan, was also fined 1.2 million rupees (US$4,300) and handed a total of 23 years’ imprisonment.

The case arose after Muhammad Saeed, a resident of Talagang in Punjab province filed an application with the Federal Investigation Agency two years ago accusing Zeeshan of posting blasphemous content in a WhatsApp group, Saeed’s counsel Ibrar Hussain told Agence France-Presse.

Although many cases involve Muslims accusing fellow Muslims, rights activists have warned that religious minorities – particularly Christians – are often caught in the crossfire, with blasphemy charges used to settle personal scores.

According to the National Commission of Justice and Peace, a human rights and legal aid group in Pakistan, 774 Muslims and 760 members of various minority religious groups were accused of blasphemy in the last 20 years.

Qatar Condemns In The Strongest Terms The Burning Of The Holy Qur’an in Denmark

MARCH 26, 2023

Qatar condemned in the strongest terms the burning of a copy of the Holy Qur’an in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, stressing that this heinous incident is an act of incitement and a serious provocation to the feelings of more than two billion Muslims in the world, especially in the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned that allowing the repeated infringement of the Holy Qur’an under the pretext of freedom of expression fuels hatred and violence, threatens the values of peaceful coexistence, and reveals abhorrent double standards. The ministry reiterated Qatar’s total rejection of all forms of hate speech based on belief, race or religion and using sanctities in political disputes. It also warned that the campaigns of hatred against Islam and the discourse of Islamophobia witnessed a dangerous escalation with the continued systematic calls for the repeated targeting of Muslims in the world. In this context, the ministry renewed its call to the international community to shoulder its responsibilities to reject hatred, discrimination, incitement and violence, underlining the importance of upholding the principles of dialogue and mutual understanding. The ministry reiterated Qatar’s full support for the values of tolerance and coexistence and its keenness to establish the principles of international peace and security through dialogue and understanding.

Not a Single 'Love Jihad' Case in Front of Maharashtra's Interfaith Marriage Panel

Zeeshan Kaskar

26-03-2023

Maharashtra’s women and child development minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, while speaking in the Maharashtra assembly, said that there are more than one lakh cases of love jihad in the state.

This claim is proven false as a panel that was set up to track cases of inter-faith marriages did not find a single case of alleged ‘love jihad’ in the state.

Last year in December, the Maharashtra government had announced a panel to track inter-religious marriages, headed by Lodha himself. According to the government, the objective of the panel is to monitor inter-religious marriages in the state and provide assistance to distressed women in such marriages. Earlier this panel was supposed to monitor inter-caste marriages as well, but after protests, this point was removed from this panel.

Several parties opposed this panel, but the panel was constituted in December. When Samajwadi Party MLA Rais Shaikh wrote to the Maharashtra Women and Development Ministry inquiring about the number of cases before the committee, he received a reply stating that the committee has zero cases so far.

Israeli Occupation Forces Storm Al-Aqsa Mosque, Expel Palestinian Worshipers

26 March, 2023

Israeli occupation forces stormed Sunday’s midnight, March 26, the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and expelled the Palestinian worshipers from inside it.

Local Palestinian sources said that the occupation forces stormed the Al-Qibli prayer hall in Al-Aqsa Mosque, and forcibly expelled the worshipers from it.

They indicated that the occupation forces deployed in the Old City of occupied Jerusalem, and prevented Palestinian citizens from entering Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The sources explained that the goal of vacating the worshipers from the prayer halls is to empty Al-Aqsa Mosque to prepare for the Israeli settlers’ daily incursions into the mosque.

Many videos and photos on social media networks showed that the occupation forces detained a Palestinian young man, at least, during their storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The occupation forces forced all the worshipers to leave Bab al-Silsilah and tried to seize their cell phones.

PTI moves SC against ‘unconstitutional’ delay in elections

Nasir Iqbal

March 26, 2023

ISLAMABAD: The PTI has moved the Supreme Court to set aside the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) order to put off Punjab Assembly elections till Oct 8.

The petition, moved by PTI Secretary General Asad Umar, former Punjab Assembly speaker Mohammad Sibtain Khan, former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani and ex-lawmakers of Punjab Abdul Rehman and Mian Mahmoodur Rashid, pleaded that the ECP’s decision was in violation of the Constitution and tantamount to amending and subverting it.

On March 22, the ECP had put off the elections for more than five months citing the deteriorating security situation in the country and the unavailability of security personnel.

Barrister Syed Ali Zafar moved the petition on behalf of the PTI officials on Saturday with a request to order the ECP to hold the elections on the date fixed earlier — April 30. The petition also sought directions for the federal government to ensure law and order, provisions of funds and security personnel as per the ECP’s need to hold the elections.

‘Rulers have no plan’ — Imran lays out own recovery roadmap

Mansoor Malik

March 26, 2023

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has challenged the country’s incumbent rulers to put forward a plan to rescue the country from the many crises it found itself mired in, and laid out his own roadmap to recovery.

Addressing a massive public rally at Minar-i-Pakistan in the early hours of Sunday, the PTI chairman delivered a lengthy speech, which sounded more like a pre-election pitch, similar to the address he delivered at the same venue just over a decade ago.

During his address, he recalled all the high-handed actions that he said the state had taken against him and his party since his government was ousted in April last year.

In a question to the establishment, Mr Khan asked whether they had a programme to save the country from the current crisis. “I challenge that the incumbent rulers don’t have the ability or the intention [to save the country],” he said, adding that he would happily step aside if “[the establishment] tells me ‘we have a plan’… [but] I know what the programme is…there is no programme.”

Mathura Court Dismisses Revision Plea Filed By Hindu Petitioners For Survey Of Shahi Eidgah Mosque

By Hemendra Chaturvedi

Mar 25, 2023

The revision petition filed by Hindu petitioners seeking hearing on application seeking survey of Shahi Eidgah mosque ahead of the application moved by Eidgah committee challenging maintainability of the case was dismissed by the court of the additional district judge (ADJ) (court no. 06), Mathura on Saturday.

Abhishek Pandey, the ADJ (court no. 6), Mathura, found no substance in the revision filed by the Hindu petitioners. The court said the order passed by the civil judge (senior division), Mathura, was legally correct and required no interference by the revision court.

“The Court of Civil Judge (Senior Division) in its order dated 21.07.2022 had not disposed of any application and had merely ordered for hearing of application moved under Order 7 Rule 11 challenging the maintainability. As such there was no final order passed by lower court which might have harmed interest of any of the party to suit and as such revision filed has no force and is dismissed,” said the ADJ (court no 06), Mathura in his order.

Welcoming the order, secretary and counsel for Shahi Eidgah management committee Tanveer Ahmed said, “There revision petition filed by Hindu petitioners deserved to be dismissed. The lower court had ordered day-to-day hearing on our application under Order 7 Rule 11 Civil Procedure Code (CPC) challenging the maintainability of suit filed by Hindu petitioners.”

Ocean away from home, Nigerian-Muslim medicos in Lucknow celebrate ‘Ramadan’ with fervour

By Aakash Ghosh

Mar 25, 2023

Wearing traditional Pathani Kurta, pyjama, and white skull caps, hundreds of university students could be seen walking the streets, standing in groups post-evening Iftar and morning Sehari. Among them are many Nigerian Muslim students who are studying medicine and related subjects at different departments of Integral University.

Despite being an ocean away from their native place and far off from their family and friends, these international students are observing Ramadan with equal fervour and spirit with a mix of Nigerian and Indian cultures along with their friends whom they call their Indian family.

“It is a month of blessing. Ramadan is a time when friends and family gather and visit each other frequently, offer namaz together, and break the fast together. However, when we are away from home, we miss all of those memories,’’ said Umar Farooq, a resident of Abuja, the capital of Nigeria.

“We’re living here for the last two years and we have started liking the kind of Ramadan celebrated here in India. There is a lot of buzz in the streets. Students from Nigeria are here in numbers so we kinda enjoy it together,” said another student Ibrahim who also comes from Abuja.

Asaduddin Owaisi-led All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen Ready For Rajasthan Debut, Eyes 40 Seats With Muslim & Dalit Presence

Mar 26, 2023

Hyderabad: Gearing up for his party’s Rajasthan debut, Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi-led All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) is keen on stitching up an alliance with political parties with considerable influence over Dalits in the desert state.

Elections to the 200-member Rajasthan assembly are scheduled later this year and AIMIM is focusing on 40 assembly constituencies with maximum Muslim and Dalit electorate. The Owaisi-led party has already made security of Muslims as a key poll plank, following the murder of Junaid and Ansari allegedly by gaurakshaks.

AIMIM Rajasthan state president Jameel Khan said a series of public meetings by Owaisi are planned in various districts of Rajasthan. While AIMIM is accused of contesting elections in various states to cut into the vote-bank of Congress and other secular parties to benefit BJP, Owaisi has assiduously stated he will not stop unless Muslims have their own political in the country.

Though votes polled by AIMIM in Uttar Pradesh was just 0.43%, political analysts said entry of AIMIM in Rajasthan’s assembly polls will definitely help BJP. AIMIM may or may not garner a significant chunk of vote share that dents Congress prospects, but bjp benefits from polarisation of Hindu votes, analysts said. There are 40 assembly constituencies with Muslim concentration in areas of Alwar, Bharatpur, Sawai, Madhopur, Tonk, Barmer and Mewat. In 2018 polls, Congress won 29 of 40 seats followed by BJP in 7 seats, BSP in 3 and an independent. Later, BSP and an independent sailed with Congress.

Jamiat to move court against Karnataka Muslim quota removal

Mar 26, 2023

NEW DELHI: Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind president Maulana Mahmood Madani in a statement on Saturday condemned the removal of a reservation quota for backward Muslim sub-castes in Karnataka by the state government. He said that Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind will move court against this decision.

Madani termed the move by the Karnataka government "as harmful to the comprehensive development policy of the country". He further said that this does not fit in with PM Modi's assertions for upliftment of Pasmanda Muslims. He added that on one hand the PM is promoting development policy for the backward Muslims, and on the other, the state government is snatching away the reservation from them in Karnataka and distributing it among other classes. BJP is in power in Karnataka.

He argued that various official statistics and reports of commissions confirm the fact that Muslims of India are economically and educationally at the lowest rung of development. "Unfortunately, BJP always claims that reservations cannot be given on religious grounds, but it never considers Muslim backwardness. As far as the Karnataka issue is concerned, religion was not the basis here and not all Muslims were benefiting from it. Only 12 backward Muslim communities were covered." "Despite these facts, the Karnataka government's removal of Muslim reservation and extension of the same to Vokkaliga and Lingayat communities is the worst example of electoral opportunism and appeasement," he said.

Jerusalem Police brace for a tense Ramadan as Hamas threatens ‘explosion’

BY YAAKOV LAPPIN

March 26, 2023

Security forces led by Jerusalem District Police have been preparing for possible violence during Ramadan, which began on Wednesday evening and is due to continue until April 21. Hamas leaders threatened to respond to any perceived upset to the status quo on the Temple Mount with “an explosion,” and called on Palestinians in Judea and Samaria to continue terrorist attacks against Israelis.

Hamas representatives have been issuing threats in recent days to escalate the security situation if they believe that Israel is acting against Palestinians and “against the Al-Aqsa Mosque,” which they view as a “red line” that could ignite the region, according to a report released on Wednesday by the Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center.

The report noted a rare public statement by Hamas’s deputy “military” wing commander, Marwan Issa, who said that any change in the situation surrounding the mosque would cause an “earthquake” in the area.

To counter efforts by Islamist terrorist factions to pour fuel on the fire, international, Israeli and regional Arab government officials have in recent weeks attempted to institute de-escalation measures. These efforts included two security summits, held in February and March in Jordan and Egypt, respectively, involving representatives from Israel, the Palestinian Authority, the United States, Egypt and Jordan.

At the same time, the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) unit in the Israeli Defense Ministry announced a series of steps to ease conditions for the Palestinian population during Ramadan.

The Jerusalem District Police will increase forces in Jerusalem with emphasis on the inflammable eastern section of the city and the holy places, where violence has flared up during Ramadan in past years. The district announced last week that it had completed preparations for the holiday month, as many worshippers and visitors are expected to begin flowing into the Old City.

An increased police presence is in place in and around the Old City and other popular sites. Police are also working with local authorities to manage crowds and heavy traffic flows, in particular in the Old City area, the Temple Mount and other holy places.

The police expressed its commitment to allowing freedom of worship while maintaining security and public order. Jerusalem District Police chief Cmdr. Doron Turgeman held coordination meetings with a large number of units, and took several steps at the operational and community policing levels ahead of the holiday, police said. These included meetings with residents of eastern Jerusalem.

Friday Imams Eulogize Khamenei, Demand Tighter Control On Public

Maryam Sinaee

26-03-2023

Friday imams across Iran excessively eulogized Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and demanded tighter hijab control and enforcement of the Ramadhan restrictions.

“His highness the Supreme Leader is the best personality [created] after the Imam of the Age,” Kazem Sadighi, Friday imam of Tehran told his congregation Friday in his first sermon of the new Iranian year.

In Shiite eschatology, the twelfth imam, Mahdi, is a messianic figure thought to have been in occultation by divine will since 941 CE. He is referred to as the Imam of Ages who will appear at the end of time to cleanse the world of sin and evil. Khamenei’s devotees often refer to him as the representative of the Imam of Ages, with absolute power to rule.

Sadighi also promised that Iranians will make the world a better place under Khamenei’s banner who he said is the commander-in-chief of all of the world’s oppressed people and “the resistance front” against the world powers and “an example [for mankind], an imam, a leader and divine executive.”

“The esteemed Leader has waged war on Satan and named this year as the year bridling inflation and boosting production,” another imam in the southern city of Shiraz, Ayatollah LotfollahDozhakam said in his sermon while exhorting his congregation to obey Khamenei.

Israel's Defence Minister calls for halt to judicial reforms

The National

Mar 26, 2023

Israel's Defence Minister Yoav Gallant on Saturday called on the government to halt legislation on changes to the judiciary, saying the bitter dispute over the measures posed a danger to national security.

Although other members of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's far-right governing coalition have voiced misgivings about the contentious judicial shake-up, Mr Gallant is the first senior cabinet member to clearly and publicly object.

“The deepening split is seeping into the military and security agencies — this is a clear, immediate and real danger to Israel's security. I will not facilitate this,” Mr Gallant said on TV.

At least two fellow Likud party lawmakers, Yuli Edelstein and David Bitan, came out in support of Mr Gallant. They echoed his call for justice reforms to be made, but only with broad agreement.

It was unclear whether Mr Netanyahu, wrapping up a visit to London and aiming to finalise legislation on at least one bill in the coming week, would heed their call.

Mr Netanyahu — on trial for corruption — is under pressure from others in his cabinet who want him to proceed this week with a bill that would grant the ruling coalition more sway in selecting judges. Critics say it would undermine judicial independence.

Putin says Moscow to place nuclear weapons in Belarus, US reacts cautiously

March 26, 2023

By David Ljunggren

March 25 (Reuters) - Russia will station tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, President Vladimir Putin said on Saturday, sending a warning to NATO over its military support for Ukraine and escalating a standoff with the West.

Although not unexpected and while Putin said the move would not violate nuclear non-proliferation promises, it is one of the Russia's most pronounced nuclear signals since the beginning of its invasion of Ukraine 13 months ago.

The United States - the world's other nuclear superpower - has reacted cautiously to Putin's statement, with a senior administration official saying there were no signs Moscow planned to use its nuclear weapons.

Putin likened his plans to the U.S. stationing its weapons in Europe and said that Russia would not be transferring control to Belarus. But this could be the first time since the mid-1990s that Russia were to base such weapons outside the country.

"There is nothing unusual here either: firstly, the United States has been doing this for decades. They have long deployed their tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of their allied countries," Putin told state television.

"We agreed that we will do the same - without violating our obligations, I emphasize, without violating our international obligations on the nonproliferation of nuclear weapons."

SNP’s power-sharing deal with Scottish Greens could collapse if Kate Forbes replaces Nicola Sturgeon

By Jaymi McCann

March 25, 2023

The Scottish Greens have suggested they could walk away from a cooperation deal with the SNP if Nicola Sturgeon’s replacement is not committed to “progressive values”.

Health Secretary and SNP leadership contender Humza Yousaf – who will find out on Monday if he has beaten Kate Forbes and Ash Regan to replace Nicola Sturgeon as party leader and first minister – has claimed his opponents could “destabilise” the Scottish Government by putting a key power-sharing deal at risk.

The Bute House Agreement is a cooperation deal between the two parties that was signed in 2021 to prop up the SNP in Holyrood, where they are sometimes reliant on support from the Scottish Greens’ seven MSPs because they hold 64 of the 129 seats – one short of a majority.

But Ms Forbes has vowed to reverse some policies that are included in the agreement, including plans for protected marine zones where fishing will be banned – while she has said she will not proceed with a legal challenge over the Gender Recognition Reform Bill, which was promised in the agreement but vetoed by Westminster.

Ms Slater cautioned: “I want us to stay in government and see through the change we have begun, but not at any cost. We will never be a party that is prepared to put our principles to one side.”

Migrants ‘set to be moved out of hotels into disused ferries and military bases’

Joe Middleton

26-03-2023

Migrants will reportedly be moved out of hotels and instead will be housed in disused ferries and military bases as part of plans expected to be announced by the government in the coming weeks.

Rishi Sunak could declare as early as next week that it is the “beginning of the end” of using hotels to house asylum seekers – a policy that costs the government more than £5m per day.

Hotels housing asylum seekers have been targeted by anti-refugee groups in recent months, in attacks that have prompted condemnation by MPs and the police.

Under the new plans, it is reported that asylum seekers will be moved into “decent but rudimentary” accommodation in former military bases. Ministers are also said to be considering using disused ferries to provide temporary housing, but are not expected to bring forward plans to use holiday camps or student accommodation.

A Home Office spokesperson did not confirm or deny that the government was intending to use disused ferries or military bases to house migrants.

Decoding The Bangladesh Narrative In The US Human Rights Report

26/03/2023

Last Wednesday altogether 9 districts and 211 upazilas across Bangladesh have been declared as homeless and landless free.

The number of rehabilitated people is 3,856,505. The beneficiary includes widows, deserted women, bedes, low-caste people, hijras and climate refugees. This is a significant achievement in ensuring fundamental human rights. Bangladesh is lauded for its recent socio-economic development. It has made commendable progress in education and health sector, reducing gender gap, poverty elevation and handling climate change vulnerability. Despite national and international conspiracies the existing legal system has ensured the trial and punishment of the war criminals. Bangladesh has accommodated more than a million of Rohingyas, which demonstrate its commitment to protect human rights.

The currently published human rights report of the USA State Department gives some interesting perspective on human rights discourse. Since the report is quite big I will focus on few pertinent issues. The report starts with the claims that the 2018 national election of Bangladesh was not considered free and fair. Further it claims that the election witnessed low voter turnout, intimidation, irregularities, and violence during campaigns. The USA stood silent in 1970 when the Awami League won landslide victory in the election. Why democracy and rule of law was not their concern at that time? Since 1975 undemocratic governments have ruled Bangladesh for nearly 20 years which did not allow the State institutions to flourish. Since 2009 elections are taking place at periodic intervals which manifest formal democracy and the country is striving for substantive democracy.

The said USA 2022 report also states that “leaders and members of some political party in the country, could not exercise their constitutional freedoms of speech and assembly because of harassment by law enforcement authorities. But in reality, political parties in Bangladesh enjoy their political rights. They always protest in the street. Last 10 December, 2022 was the best example to Understand it. They can be critic against government. They are talking whatever they are thinking. Media alwyas promote their rights. Human chain, movement, protest are being organized regularly on the streets in the Capital Dhaka. We can not see any kind of government obstacle in this regard. Is not a freedom of specch, movement, political rights?

BNP Wants To Destroy Sanctity Of Ramadan: I&B Minister

25 Mar 2023

DHAKA, March 25, 2023 (BSS) – Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud today said BNP wants to destroy the sanctity of Ramadan by announcing movement in the holy month of fasting.

“In the past, we never saw any announcement of movement in the holy month of Ramadan. Because, every party refrains from holding political programme maintaining sanctity of Ramadan,” he said.

Hasan added: “During Ramadan, political parties hold Iftar party and hold talks there. Other programmes are also arranged. But BNP’s programme gives the impression that they even want to destroy the sanctity of Ramadan.”

He said these while replying to questions from journalists about BNP’s announcement of different political programmes during Ramadan, at his Minto Road residence here.

The minister said BNP doesn’t want people’s comfort even during the Ramadan as the party is making evil efforts to create disorder in the country.

Japan's ‘Free and Open Indo-Pacific’ plan focuses on Bangladesh’s Matarbari port for regional economic growth

By: SidhantSibal

Mar 25, 2023

Japan will be focusing on the development of Matarbari Port in Bangladesh as part of Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's new ‘Free and Open Indo-Pacific’ plan. It will be part of Tokyo's larger infrastructure development efforts in the Bay of Bengal and Northeast India with a focus on "multilayer connectivity" as laid out in the plan.

The deep seaport, located in Cox's Bazar district, is being developed with the assistance of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and is expected to reduce pressure on Chittagong port while catering to the future needs of Bangladesh and India's Northeast.

In his speech during his visit to Delhi earlier this month, Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida stated, "Viewing Bangladesh and other areas to the south as a single economic zone, we will promote the Bay of Bengal-Northeast India industrial value chain concept in cooperation with India and Bangladesh to foster the growth of the entire region."

Malaysia marks Ramadan with ‘air-filled curry puffs’ to break the fast amid soar-away prices

Hadi Azmi

26 Mar, 2023

The price of a coconut is up by a quarter, buffets to break the fast are now a luxury and “air-filled curry puffs” are the wry talk of the bazaar as Malaysian Muslims marking Ramadan curb their spending amid surging food costs being passed onto customers.

Principally a month of spirituality and reflection, during which devout Muslims abstain from food and water from sunrise to sunset, Ramadan is also a time when food bazaars sprout up around the country, drawing in those on the hunt for local delicacies.

But this year growing numbers are staying away from these Ramadan bazaars, or only looking rather than buying, citing surging prices and the declining quality of food as stallholders make savings by using cheaper produce or reluctantly raising prices.

afira Naim, an accountant who visited the popular Kampung Baru bazaar, near the iconic Petronas Twin Towers in downtown Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.

The ever-increasing cost of food at the bazaar over the years has led to the trope of the “air-filled curry puffs”, with sellers reducing the filling inside the pastries in a rude surprise to buyers breaking fast at sundown.

Pressured by the rising cost of raw materials and facing stiff competition just for a spot at these bazaars, food entrepreneur Farhan Yassin from the town of Klang, west of Kuala Lumpur, said he was feeling the pinch.

Muslim Hikers return to Peak District to launch new prayer signs

ByJoseph Ash

25 MAR 2023

Signs pointing to Mecca on a popular Peak District hiking trail and the creation of outdoor prayer mats have been announced in a bid to encourage more Muslims to explore the great outdoors . The announcement comes after Muslim Hikers, a group which tries to get more Muslims into hiking and outdoor activities, was targeted by online abuse following a Christmas Day hike in 2021, and an appearance on the BBC's Countryfile in 2022.

The group, alongside brands Wiggle and Adidas Terrex, have identified the barriers that need breaking down, such as facilitating praying in the outdoors. The creation of the bespoke prayer mats and first-of-their-kind signs will empower more Muslims to get outside and celebrate everything nature has to offer.

Muslims pray in the direction of Mecca up to five times a day, and these groundbreaking signs have been placed along one of the Peak District’s most popular hiking routes, Cave Dale, in a bid to help Muslims more easily incorporate prayer time. Those behind the scheme say the signs will not only point the Muslim community in the right direction of prayer but will also signal to a wider audience that the outdoors is for everyone.

Donald Trump holds first 2024 election rally in Waco, Texas

Deutsche Welle

26.03.23

Donald Trump used his first election rally in Waco, Texas, on Saturday to rail against prosecutors investigating him and try to fire up his base ahead of next year's Republican primary elections.

At a gathering at Waco's airport, Trump said that the investigations swirling around him were "something straight out of the Stalinist Russia horror show."

Although he faces multiple investigations and court cases, Trump was most likely referring to prosecutors in Manhattan probing campaign finance violations stemming from his alleged payment of hush money to an adult film actress, known as Stormy Daniels, ahead of the 2016 election.

Last Saturday, without providing any reasoning, Trump said he expected to be arrested in a few days in connection with the case, calling on people to protest if that came to pass. His supposed arrest or indictment on the following Tuesday never materialized.
