No References To Pakistan, Iqbal Or Manusmriti In Delhi University Syllabi: E-mail of Dean of Academics
by VidheeshaKuntamalla
June 15, 2025

Faculty members were asked to cross-check the content of each course and confirm by June 16 that none of the above items were included (Archive)
----------
Faculty members of Delhi University’s Department of Philosophy have been instructed to ensure that no references to Pakistan, philosopher and poet Muhammad Iqbal, or Manusmriti should be included in any undergraduate or postgraduate syllabi. The directive was issued in an email sent earlier this week, following instructions from the Dean of Academics, and the department has been asked to complete this review by June 16, it is learnt.
The email states: “There is an official instruction from the Dean of Academics (on June 12) to check that our UG Syllabi Semester 1-8 (NEP) as well as our PG Syllabi (NEP) Semesters 1 and 2 do not have any of the following items – either in the list of readings or in any of the unit contents: any reading of Manu, any reading of Muhammad Iqbal, any mention or content related to Pakistan.”
Faculty members were asked to cross-check the content of each course and confirm by June 16 that none of the above items were included. “To ensure full accuracy and responsibility… the course designers should be asked to ensure this with reference to each course,” the email further stated.
Calls and messages to Dean of Academics K Ratnabali went unanswered. The Head of Department, Philosophy, Enakshi Ray Mitra, declined to comment.
A university official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “This was verbally communicated many times by the Vice-Chancellor himself — that anything that divides society will not be taught at Delhi University. Two years ago, readings about poet Iqbal were removed. Despite reiterating this, several departments are still introducing these topics into their syllabus proposals.”
In 2023, the Academic Council (AC) approved the removal of a unit on Muhammad Iqbal from the BA (Hons) Political Science course titled ‘Modern Indian Political Thought’. Iqbal, who authored Saare Jahan Se Achha, was later designated as the national poet of Pakistan. That same meeting saw the introduction of a new elective on Vinayak Damodar Savarkar for students pursuing the BA Programme with Political Science as a major.
Last month, the Standing Committee on Academic Affairs recommended the removal of references to politically sensitive topics such as the Kashmir conflict and the Israel-Palestine issue from the Psychology syllabi, describing them as “divisive” and lacking psychological relevance. The committee instead suggested greater focus on Indian thought, including the teachings of Buddha and Gandhi, as part of efforts to rebalance what it termed the “over-representation of Western thinkers.”
On June 12, V-C Yogesh Singh reiterated that Manusmriti would not be taught “in any form” at DU after the text appeared in the reading list of a new Sanskrit undergraduate course. “This direction has been issued even earlier by the Vice-Chancellor’s office, and departments should adhere to it,” Singh had told The Indian Express. A similar proposal to include Manusmriti in the undergraduate History (Honours) syllabus was withdrawn in 2024 following protests.
In the Philosophy department, The Indian Express has also learnt that a proposed Discipline Specific Elective course titled “Bio Politics” has been dropped. The course had earlier been placed before the AC, with suggestions from the Standing Committee to revise its title. Eventually, the course was removed by the administration.
A faculty member from the department said, “The reason that was communicated to us was that this was more of a Political Science subject than a Philosophy subject. We first changed the name, but were later informed by the administration that this paper has been dropped.”
“Even though many professors in our department do not believe that this is a political paper. We thought it was important to retain it in the 7th semester, but there is no time to fight for it now,” the faculty member added.
The Bio Politics course was designed to examine “life as a site of both technological production and economic manipulation.” According to the official syllabus, it aimed to explore the relationship between life and politics through the writings of Michel Foucault, Giorgio Agamben, Antonio Negri, and Jacques Ranciere, situating these texts within “the ideological context of liberalism and fascism”.

Al-Azhar University’s Jew-Hating Jihad Reaches Colorado

------------
Earlier this month, Egyptian Muslim Mohamed SabrySoliman, an immigrant residing illegally in the United States, threw firebombs at a group of Jews in Boulder, Colo. The planned attack targeted Jews gathering for their weekly peaceful vigil memorializing murdered victims and hostages remaining in Hamas captivity in Gaza since the Hamas-led terrorist attacks in southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.
Given Soliman’s declared intent was to “kill all Zionist people,” it is fortuitous that none of the victims were killed. Fifteen individuals were injured, and Soliman expressed his desire, “to do it again.”
He also conveyed the pious Islamic religious motivation for his firebombing of Jews—jihad for the sake of Allah. In an Arabic video recording made before the attack, which was independently validated by MEMRI (the Middle East Media Research Institute) ABC News and the Independent in the United Kingdom, Soliman proclaimed, “Allah is greater than everything else. So why do we fear those who are inferior to Allah? … Not the Zionists, America, Britain, France or Germany, only Allah has the right to be feared. … I attest before Allah and before you that Allah, His Messenger, and jihad for Allah’s sake are more beloved to me than the whole world are.”
Born in Egypt, Soliman and his family lived in Kuwait for 17 years before coming to the United States. The pervasive, virulent Jew-hatred in both countries may have shaped Soliman’s attitudes. Hard Anti-Defamation League data reveal Kuwait is currently the world’s most antisemitic country, with a prevalence of extreme antisemitism of 97%, while 84% of Egyptians harbor extreme antisemitism, placing Egypt among the 10 worst antisemitic nations worldwide.
Moreover, under education, Soliman’s résumé listed Al-Azhar University, which, since the 13th century, has been a pre-eminent, authoritative Sunni Islamic religious teaching institution. It is colloquially denoted as “Islam’s Vatican.” Unfortunately, Al Azhar and its grand imams, the school’s papal equivalents, as well as other key Azharite religious officials, have propagated unrelenting jihadism and Jew-hatred for the past 75 years.
Al-Azhar has issued a continuum of formal Muslim declarations, fatwas, of jihad against all Jews of historical Palestine since Nov. 29, 1947, when the U.N. Partition Plan was approved. This bellicose exercise was repeated in 1948 at the outset of Israel’s War of Independence; in 1956, nine months before the start of the Sinai war; in 1967 at the outset of the Six-Day War; in 1968, during a global Al-Azhar conference in Cairo; in October 1973 at the beginning of the Yom Kippur War; and, on Oct. 18, 2023, less than two weeks after the Hamas-led terrorist attacks in southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.
As documented by the late historian David Littman in his work Arab Theologians on Jews and Israel, in September of 1968, Al-Azhar hosted prominent Muslim theologians not only from the Middle East, but also from Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas, at the Fourth Conference of the Academy of Islamic Research.
Following the Arab-Muslim debacle during the Six-Day War in June 1967, this seminal conference marked the formal abandonment of pseudo-secular “Arab nationalism.” Instead, it favored jihadism and Islamic Jew-hatred as a guiding ideological rationale for the simmering conflict with Israel.
Littman summarized the conference’s six key recurring themes, among them that Jews were frequently characterized as the “enemies of Allah,” manifesting a historical continuity of evil qualities, “as described in the Quran,” and that they did not constitute a true people or nation. Israel was the culmination of the historical and cultural depravity of the Jews, which must be destroyed by a jihad, while the superiority of Islam over all other religions was brandished as a guarantee of the Arabs’ ultimate triumph. Also, that it was outrageous for the Jews, traditionally kept by Arab Islam in a humiliated, inferior status and characterized as cowardly, to defeat the Arabs, have their own state, and cause the contraction of the “abode of Islam.”
Littman’s analysis concluded with a plaintive warning, one that is still relevant today, writing that Al-Azhar was promoting ideas that “lead to the urge to liquidate Israel, politicide and the Jews, genocide. If the evil of the Jews is immutable and permanent, transcending time and circumstances, and impervious to all hopes of reform, there is only one way to cleanse the world of them, by their complete annihilation.”
On Oct. 7, 2023, Al-Azhar celebrated the brutal jihad carnage by Hamas as “the resistance efforts of the proud Palestinian people.” Some 10 days later, it issued a formal fatwa, one praised by Al-Qaeda, declaring that “Zionist settlers,” meaning all Israelis, were legitimate targets of jihad.
The university’s grand imams, Muhammad SayyedTantawi and Ahmed al-Tayyib, both rabid antisemites, have amplified this perverse Islamic ethos in recent decades.
Tantawi, a leading modern Quranic commentator who led Al-Azhar from 1996 to 2010, mined Islam’s rich Jew-hating canon to produce a 766-page Quranic screed against the Jews, “The Children of Israel (Jews) in the Quran and Traditions,” which can be found online in Arabic.
In it, he wrote “these and many more vices” of the Jews in the Quran: “Disbelief, ingratitude, egotism, cowardice, deceit, rebellion, cruelty, deviance, hastening to transgression and aggression, unjustly consuming people’s wealth.” He avers that such Quranic vices of the Jews “can be clearly seen anywhere and throughout the ages,” and that “the passage of time has only made these vices more ingrained in them.”
Al-Tayyib, the current grand imam, has also sanctioned homicide bombing against Israeli non-combatants, and promoted conspiratorial Jew-hatred ideologies claiming that Jews seek to conquer Mecca and Medina, and that Jews created jihad terror groups like ISIS. Twice in nationally televised Egyptian interviews, al-Tayyib explained how a central antisemitic verse in the Quran, verse 5:82, defines Muslim-Jewish relations, permanently, inflicting “suffering” upon Muslims for 1,400 years until now.
Soliman’s attack on Boulder’s Jews brought Al-Azhar’s authoritative Islamic Jew-hating, jihad ethos to Colorado. Hopefully, the attack will lead U.S. religious and political leaders to finally recognize and condemn this ugly phenomenon.

Hardline Jamaat-e-Islami Accuses Muhammad YunusOf 'Special Affection' For A Party After Meet With BNP
Jun 15, 2025

DHAKA: Hardline Jamaat-e-Islami and the newly formed NCP, which had backed Bangladesh chief adviser Muhammad Yunus' decision to hold the national election in April, on Saturday accused him of partiality, a day after he and BNP reached a "preliminary understanding" to hold the poll in Feb.
"The chief adviser has expressed special affection for a party, which has undermined his impartiality," the Jamaat said in a statement.
In a meeting London on Friday, Yunus conveyed to BNP acting chairperson in-exile Tarique Rahman that the election could be held in the week before the start of Ramadan in 2026 if all preparations are completed.
The BNP-led coalition of around 50 parties was demanding early poll in Dec, JeI and National Citizen Party (NCP) had backed Yunus over the April time frame.
JeI said it believes that holding a joint press conference and issuing a statement abroad on domestic matters is a "violation of the country's political culture". He should have held discussions with other parties after returning and then expressed his opinion, JeI said. The NCP called the issue "extremely disappointing".

Thick Smoke OverPort City Of Haifa As Iran Begins Second Night Of Attacks Against Israel
June 15, 2025

TEHRAN – Sirens blared north of the occupied territories late Saturday as Iran launched its second night of missile strikes against Israel, retaliating after the regime murdered Iranian civilians, officials, and scientists in unprovoked and unprecedented airstrikes.
----------
Israeli authorities have imposed strict censorship, blocking the dissemination of information about the aftermath of Iran’s attacks. However, footage captured by residents reveals widespread destruction in the port city of Haifa, with thick plumes of smoke rising from multiple locations and fires breaking out in several areas. Preliminary reports indicate at least one Zionist has been killed and three others wounded during the latest wave of strikes.
Iran’s first night of attacks, which began late Friday and continued into the early hours of Saturday, primarily targeted Tel Aviv and surrounding towns. According to a statement from the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), at least 150 military and spy sites were successfully struck by ballistic missiles.
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has declared that Iran’s Armed Forces will leave Israel "helpless." Military officials, replacing those assassinated by Israel this week, have vowed to "open the gates of hell" to the regime and continue the attacks for as long as necessary. The Pezeshkian administration has firmly aligned itself with the Leader and military officials’ stance.

What really happens in China's so-called 're-education' camps: 'There was suffering and violence'
John Beck
15 Jun 2025

Artux City Vocational Skills Education Training Centre at Kunshan Industrial Park, Xinjiang. Image: Associated Press / Alamy
----------
There are no detention camps in Xinjiang, Chinese authorities said once the evidence and outcry became too much to deny completely – only vocational education and training centres. And those held there, they said, are not detainees at all but trainees who benefit greatly from their stay.
“The centres provide free education,” Chinese official AierkenTuniyazi told a session of the UN Human Rights Council in June 2019. “The dormitories are fully equipped with radio, TV, telephone, air conditioning, bathroom and shower. A sports ground and library have been built.” The trainees’ personal dignity and freedoms are protected and they are allowed to go home on a regular basis, he said. Many had already “graduated” from the centres to live “a happy life with better quality”.
This was the narrative carefully propagated by Chinese government and state media, and armies of online commentators. None of it corresponded with the experiences of Uyghurs, Kazakhs and others caught up in the crackdown on Xinjiang’s Muslim minorities that a 2022 United Nations report found could constitute crimes against humanity, and the United States and other countries have described as genocide.
Only a tiny fraction of the estimated one million detained in camps and prisons managed to escape abroad. I spoke with a series of them in Turkey, Kazakhstan and the US while researching my book, Those Who Should Be Seized Should Be Seized, which investigates China’s oppression of its Muslim citizens. They had been held in different facilities across Xinjiang. All described systematic indoctrination, mistreatment and torture. Similar testimony has been gathered by rights groups and journalists and is supported by numerous leaked government documents.
People were taken to the camps for exhibiting what the Chinese government deemed signs of extremism – and that could be almost anything. Praying at the local mosque, wearing a headscarf or growing a beard. Quitting smoking, travelling to see family members abroad or just receiving a phone call from a foreign number. Saying “God bless you”.
Arrests came in the form of summons to a local police station or armed squads pounding on doors late at night. Detainees were driven to massive facilities then stripped of their clothing, jewellery and phones and given uniforms. They were put in crowded cells that sometimes had beds but often did not, and watched over by ceiling-mounted CCTV cameras. The cells were unbearably warm in summer and when winter came the detainees pressed together for warmth. They were given only brief access to toilets or had to use a bucket in their cell and were allowed cold showers once a week. Food was meagre. Several described only a thin soup for each meal, sometimes with a small piece of bread. Others talked of even less and a terrible, gnawing hunger.
There were classes most days that involved sitting in cramped and silent rows listening to lectures on Chinese language or the legal system. Guards would make them memorise patriotic songs and elements of Xi Jinping Thought, the president’s political doctrine. There would be videos too, detailing Xi’s foreign policy achievements or the power of China’s military.
Medical attention came only in an emergency and sometimes not even then. Most detainees said they were given regular pills or injections, however. None of them knew what they were given but it fogged their minds, made them lethargic and seemed to disrupt the women’s menstrual cycles.
There was violence. Beatings with fists, boots and shock batons for the slightest infraction and sometimes for no reason at all. Detainees spoke often of the device known as the tiger chair that guards strapped people into for hours or days at a time. The worst punishments often seemed to be reserved for Uyghurs.
Women described suffering and witnessing sexual violence. One told me men in medical masks took women from the cells at night and that when it happened to her, she was raped and beaten by several guards.
Those who emerged from the camps said that they were so broken they no longer recognised themselves. Frail and tired, unable to remember things anymore or to think clearly. Always they carried with them the fear that they might somehow be taken back to the place of their suffering. They were tormented further by the Chinese government’s continued denials and its efforts to chase down and silence those who had escaped abroad. After the camps, they said, they would never be truly free.

'Historic Blunder': Assam CMSays India Missed Chance To Stop Pakistan From Becoming Nuclear State; Claims Israel Offered Help
Jun 14, 2025
NEW DELHI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday that the Congress made a "historic blunder" by allowing Pakistan to become a nuclear power in the 1980s without taking action.
"At a time when nations today act decisively to neutralise nuclear threats, India’s tragic inaction during the 1980s remains a cautionary tale of what could have been—and what wasn't," the Assam CM said in a long post on X.
In his post titled "Congress's Historic Blunder: How India Let Pakistan Become a Nuclear State", he claimed Israel offered help—from intel to joint strike planning. He said Jamnagar Air Base was shortlisted as a launch site and the Indian military supported a pre-emptive strike on Kahuta.
"India had the capability and consensus to eliminate the threat before it became a reality. Yet at the last minute: Indira Gandhi hesitated, fearing international fallout," the chief minister alleged.

'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' Hollow If 114 Muslims Sacked For Faith: AIMIM On Temple Dismissals
14.06.25
AIMIM leader Waris Pathan on Saturday questioned the dismissal of 114 Muslim workers from the Shani Shingnapur temple in Maharashtra, calling it a form of “social boycott” and accused the shrine trust of targeting people based on religion.
“It is very disappointing that on one hand, we talk about 'sabkasaath, sabkavikas', Viksit Bharat, economy, on the other hand, jobs are being decided on the basis of religion, caste. They threw out people as they were Muslims, they removed 114 persons from the job. The government should think, where are we going? This is like a social boycott. It is unconstitutional, the Maharashtra government should take cognisance. It is wrong, not good for the country,” he said, urging the Maharashtra government to take immediate cognisance of the matter.
On June 8 and 13, the Shri ShaneshwarDevasthan trust terminated the services of 167 staffers citing "disciplinary grounds". Of those dismissed, 114 — about 68 per cent — are Muslims, a temple source confirmed to the Times of India.
The dismissal of over a hundred Muslim workers from the ShaneshwarDevasthan shrine in Maharashtra’s Ahilyanagar took place after a video surfaced in May, reportedly showing a man not belonging to the Hindu faith involved in painting work inside the temple premises.

In UP’s Sambhal, notices issued to 34 structures built ‘illegally’ on govt land
June 15, 2025
THE SAMBHAL district administration has issued notices after identifying 34 structures, including several houses and a mosque, built illegally on government land in the Laxmanganj area.
The action follows a recent survey conducted by the Revenue Department in response to complaints of illegal construction on government land. Officials found that more than six bighas of government land had been illegally plotted and sold in the area. Several permanent structures, including a mosque, were constructed on the encroached land.
Confirming the action, Sambhal District Magistrate Dr. RajenderPensiya said, “Notices have been served to the owners of the structures as well as the concerned authorities. They have been directed to remove the encroachments.”
According to sources, the Revenue Department submitted its report to the Nagar Palika after completing the survey. Following this, the local body issued formal notices to the individuals involved. An inquiry is underway to determine how the land was illegally sold and developed. Authorities are also investigating the role of officials, if any, in allowing the encroachments.

Rafale maker Dassault says Pak claims incorrect – No Indian jet was downed
June 15, 2025
India Pakistan conflict: Eric Trappier, Chairman and CEO of Dassault Aviation, has firmly rejected Pakistan’s claims that it shot down three Indian Rafale fighter jets during Operation Sindoor. Speaking to Challenges, a French magazine, Trappier said, “The reports of Indian Rafales being lost are not accurate,” adding that Dassault had received no official communication from the Indian Air Force (IAF) indicating any such losses.
He emphasised the importance of judging modern air operations by mission success rather than potential losses. “What we already know is that what the Pakistanis are saying [three Rafales destroyed] is inaccurate,” Trappier stated. Drawing a comparison to World War II, he noted, “It was not said that the Allies had lost the war because they had lost troops,” hinting that full details of Operation Sindoor may not yet be publicly known.
Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif had earlier claimed that Pakistani forces downed five Indian aircraft including three Rafales and captured Indian soldiers during a retaliatory attack following India’s airstrikes during Operation Sindoor. These strikes were in response to a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. However, Pakistan has not released any evidence to support these claims.
Defence analysts in India have largely dismissed the Pakistani narrative as propaganda. The IAF, while maintaining operational secrecy, has not confirmed any aircraft losses. Instead, IAF sources suggest that Operation Sindoor inflicted significant damage on Pakistani military infrastructure.

Rachel Reid
15 Jun 2025
The end of the Islamic Republic was a catastrophe for Afghanistan’s human rights movement, with nearly all human rights defenders thrown into exile, fearing for their lives. The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) combines an austere interpretation of Islam with ultra-conservative social mores, resulting in a highly authoritarian state with strict laws and practices. While the Islamic Republic had a deeply authoritarian streak, silencing criticism of its human rights abuses and corruption, it was relatively permissive compared to the Emirate. For most Afghan human rights defenders, working openly in Afghanistan is no longer possible. Many have continued their work from abroad, but the country’s new rulers seem impervious to change. Despite this, a new wave of women’s rights defenders emerged in spontaneous protests around the country, while other Afghans have found more clandestine or creative ways to work. AAN’s Rachel Reid has been speaking to human rights defenders about adaptation and survival in the new era.
An elderly disabled woman takes part in a women's protest in Mazar-e Sharif, demanding the IEA restore their rights to education and employment as a gift for Eid al-Adha. Photo: Atif Aryan/AFP, 26 June 2023
The victory of the Taliban insurgency in 2021 triggered a great rupture in Afghanistan’s human rights movement. Almost overnight, nearly all the prominent human rights defenders were forced into exile. The repression and authoritarianism of the Emirate has shrunk the space available for human rights work, making it more difficult – but not impossible.
This AAN thematic report looks at the state of the Afghan human rights movement before and after the Taliban takeover in 2021. It highlights how the operating environment for civil society has been flattened by a host of repressive policy edicts and laws which are rigorously implemented by the IEA, its intelligence agency, police and enforcers from the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice. Freedom of expression and assembly have all but evaporated. Women’s lives are subject to the greatest control, with diktats even proscribing them speaking in loud voices or singing.

Afghan man pleads guilty to US Election Day Attack plot
By Fidel Rahmati
June 15, 2025
A 27-year-old Afghan man, Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, has admitted to his ties with ISIS after being arrested in Oklahoma, USA, for allegedly plotting an attack during the U.S. election day.
According to reports by the Associated Press on Saturday, June 14, Tawhedi confessed to two charges: conspiracy and supporting ISIS, as well as attempting to acquire firearms to carry out a “terrorist crime.”
Tawhedi now faces up to 35 years in prison. The FBI’s director, Kash Patel, stated that the accused planned a violent terrorist attack on the 2024 election day and had obtained firearms to execute his plan.
Court documents revealed that Tawhedi, residing in Oklahoma City last year, had acquired two AK-47 rifles and 500 rounds of ammunition, aiming to target large crowds.
Authorities further stated that he had conspired for several months with multiple individuals, including Abdullah Haji Zadeh, his brother-in-law, to design the attack. Zadeh, who was 17 years old at the time, pleaded guilty in April and was tried as an adult.

Cultural authorities, artists condemn Zionist regime’s attack on Iran
June 14, 2025
Seyyed Abbas Salehi, the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, issued a message in response to the regime's aggressive assault on Iranian soil. “Once again, the enemy has revealed its vile face through the blatant violation of all human principles and international law. But the history of this land testifies that every drop of pure blood spilled on Iran’s soil only strengthens the tree of national determination,” Honaronline reported.
“Undoubtedly, this crime will not go unanswered, and an appropriate response will be delivered. Today, all institutions of the country, branches of government, and the armed forces stand united and resolute, obeying the commands of the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei. There is no doubt in our national will to defend the honor, security, and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he continued.
“Culture is the historical memory of a nation, and these days will surely be etched in the memory of our people, days when men and women stood firm, were martyred, yet did not allow the dignity of this land to falter,” Salehi concluded.
The Cinema Organization of Iran also released a statement. “In strong condemnation of this heinous crime and expressing deep abhorrence and outrage at this barbaric act, we emphasize the necessity of avenging the perpetrators to bring solace to the grieving hearts of the people.”
In another message, the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults (IIDCYA, also known as Kanoon) wrote: “Once again, the sinister hand of criminal Israel and its world-devouring supporter, the United States, emerged to cause the martyrdom of great men who, according to the testimony of history and humanity, were defenders of the oppressed and fierce opponents of the oppressors.”

On Saturday evening, during a phone call with Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, bin Salman said that Saudi Arabia stands beside its brothers in the Islamic Republic, and that today, the entire Islamic world is united and unanimously supports Iran.

Israeli PM seeking to set region on fire: Turkey’s Erdogan
Jun 14, 2025
Pezeshkian thanked Erdogan for expressing his sympathy and support for the people and government of Iran, and stated that the criminal Zionist regime has once again shown its brutality in killing innocent people.
The criminal Zionist regime does not value human rights and international law and does not shy away from assassinating civilians, scientists, leaders, government officials, and military cadets, Pezeshkian criticized.
The Zionist regime's attacks on Iran in the midst of negotiations with the United States on nuclear issues indicate the regime's intention to sabotage and prevent an agreement, he said, adding that Islamic Republic of Iran has always shown that it seeks to establish peace and tranquility in the region based on dialogue and interaction.
Emphasizing the importance of cooperation and coordination among Islamic countries in neutralizing the hostile actions of the Zionist regime, the Iranian president noted that strengthening the defense capabilities of Islamic countries is a necessity that should be taken into serious consideration.
Islamic countries can guarantee growth, development, and the establishment of peace and tranquility in the region by cooperating with one another, he underlined.

Imposing demands through pressure failed US policy: Iranian president
June 15, 2025
Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian has stated that the recent crimes committed by Israel against Iran shows the Zionist regime’s inherently aggressive nature and utter disregard for human lives. He added that the United States is supporting Israel’s attacks against Iran and thinks that it can impose its demands on Tehran through pressure.
The president made the comments on Saturday night in a phone conversation with Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, expressing gratitude for his sympathy with the Iranian government and people.
Pezeshkian said that his policy has been focusing on strengthening cooperation with neighboring and Muslim countries in pursuit of regional growth and progress. However, from the very beginning of his presidency, the Zionist regime has sought to disrupt this path and plunge the region into chaos, he added.

Iran not to yield to illogical demands: President Pezeshkian to Macron
June 15, 2025
During a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday, Pezeshkian asserted that the belief that the Islamic Republic would yield to illogical demands and double standards under pressure, or negotiate while the Zionist regime continues its attacks, is a miscalculation.
The president highlighted that he assumed office with a commitment to national consensus in Iran and fostering international relations, yet noted that the Zionist regime assassinated Hamas’ political leader, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran on his inaugural day.
Regarding Iran’s nuclear program, Pezeshkian reiterated that the Islamic Republic has no intention of acquiring nuclear weapons, as this is contrary to its religious principles and the decree of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution. He stated that Iran has consistently sought understanding and agreements through dialogue. Unfortunately, he lamented, global powers have frequently opted to accept the misleading narratives propagated by the Zionist regime, which seeks to destabilize the region.
Pezeshkian further stated that while Iran does not seek war or bloodshed, it will respond decisively to any threats. He stressed that the Islamic Republic has always preferred to resolve issues through diplomatic means.

Fresh Blasts Heard In Iranian Capital; Air Defence System Activated - Live Updates
Jun 15, 2025
The already volatile Middle East has plunged into a new and dangerous phase of conflict as Israel and Iran openly traded blows over the past two days. Following a blistering Israeli assault on key Iranian nuclear and military installations, including the Natanz enrichment facility and a nuclear research site in Isfahan, Iran retaliated with a barrage of drones and an estimated 100 ballistic missiles targeting Israel. These attacks caused explosions over Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, leading to three deaths and over 170 wounded in Israel, while Iran reported 78 fatalities and over 320 injuries from the initial Israeli strikes.
Israeli officials claim their "widespread strikes" hit over 400 targets across Iran, including command centers and air defense systems, and killed several top generals and scientists involved in Iran’s nuclear program. Satellite imagery shows extensive damage to the Natanz facility, with experts suggesting repairs could take "much more than a few weeks." Amidst the tit-for-tat attacks, Israel's Defense Minister Israel Katz warned "Tehran will burn" if missile attacks continue, while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised even stronger action. Conversely, Iran's top diplomat, Abbas Araghchi, condemned Israel's "warmongering" and called on the United Nations to intervene, also deeming ongoing nuclear talks "unjustifiable." Oman confirmed the postponement of a planned round of indirect US-Iran nuclear talks. The US, while denying direct involvement in Israel's strikes, confirmed aiding Israel in intercepting Iranian missiles. The escalating violence, including a reported Israeli drone strike on an Iranian na
Iran has announced that metro stations and mosques will serve as bomb shelters. Government spokesperson FatemehMohajerani told Iranian state television these locations would be open to the public from Sunday night for protection. Meanwhile, Israeli security forces inspected a building near Tel Aviv damaged by an Iranian missile on June 15.
In Haifa, an Israeli oil refinery suffered “localized” damage from an Iranian strike over the weekend. The Bazan Group reported damage to pipelines and transmission lines but confirmed the refinery remained operational, though some downstream facilities were temporarily shut down. No injuries were reported.
Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi reaffirmed that Iran does not seek nuclear weapons but insists on its “nuclear rights.” He stressed Iran would reject any deal that deprives the country of these rights. Araghchi was set to attend nuclear talks with the US before they were cancelled following Israel’s recent attacks.
Fresh blasts echoed Sunday in Tehran, as Israel continued its attack on Iran for a third day, AFP reported. Iranian outlets Khabar Online and Ham Mihan said air defenses over west and northwest Tehran activated "to counter new attacks," while Shargh daily shared smoke videos from the city’s east.

Iran announces more casualties, intensifies internal crackdown amid Israeli strikes
By JanatanSayeh
June 14, 2025
As Israel’s military campaign against the Islamic Republic continued on June 14, Brigadier General Effie Defrin, spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), said that 70 Israeli aircraft had targeted 40 Islamic Republic positions in Tehran in the past 24 hours. Defrin stated that the IDF had destroyed dozens of missile launch pads across Iran and achieved “freedom of operation” in Tehran’s airspace.
Iran retaliated late Friday and early Saturday, launching “three major barrages of ballistic missiles at Israel.” While the majority of the projectiles were intercepted, several missiles landed in central Israel, and the attacks killed three people and injured more than 80. Anonymous Israeli officials told Israel’s Channel 12 and Iran International on June 13 that should the regime’s ballistic missile assaults against civilians persist, Jerusalem will target Iran’s energy infrastructure.
Unconfirmed reports from inside Iran suggest this already might be taking place. Videos show air strikes in the vicinities of the Mahidasht electricity power plant in Kermanshah Province and the Tabriz oil refinery in East Azerbaijan Province. However, Majid Boujarzadeh, the public relations director general of Iran’s Ministry of Petroleum, denied the reports and claimed that the Tabriz refinery is still operational.
State media reported on June 14 that Phase 14 of the South Pars gas field in Iran’s Bushehr Province was struck in an Israeli attack. Parts of the facility caught fire, and firefighting units are currently working to extinguish the blaze. Local sources and eyewitnesses stated that the attack was carried out by what appeared to be a drone.

'We're Not Going Any where':Zara Mohammed Who Led UK's Muslims On Islamophobia
By Neil Mackay
15-06-2025
Zara Mohammed has a nervous habit of laughing as she describes distinctly unfunny events.
It’s an understandable defence mechanism. At just 29, Mohammed scored an astonishing hat-trick, becoming the first woman, youngest person, and first Scot to lead the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB). The experience, however, was deeply bruising.
She took the organisation, which represents Britain’s Muslims, through its most stormy period since September 11, navigating events like Gaza and the far-right riots.
Mohammed doesn’t hide the toll it took on her mental health. So using laughter as a barrier between her and the past seems psychologically sound.
“The first year was a baptism of fire. I was desperate to prove myself,” she says. She worked relentlessly every day from 8am to 10pm. “I really struggled with sleeping and eating. I was stressed out. I realised I couldn’t continue if I carried on like that. But lots of people were counting on me so I had to take care of myself. It was a difficult journey.”
Her election as leader caused “hysteria”, she says. It confounded stereotypes of both who spoke for Britain’s Muslims, and the role of women in Islam. Shortly after she became leader, Mohammed took part in what she calls “my famous Women’s Hour interview”. Presenter Emma Barnett was accused of being “strikingly hostile”.
Hostility, though, was to become standard. She served the maximum four years as secretary-general, and looking back, Mohammed says, “I keep thinking, how did I survive?”. Her defensive laugh returns. “Being Britain’s most senior Muslim was a really difficult experience. I was dealing with a tidal wave of very negative, anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant hysteria. The political and media narrative was so nasty and toxic. I was constantly on the back-foot.”
Her hardest battle was with the former Conservative government. “I was in a deeply charged Islamophobic environment,” Mohammed explains. “The Conservatives were getting further and further to the right.”
There have been long-running claims of Islamophobia within the Conservative Party. Former Home Secretary Suella Braverman once claimed “Islamists” ran Britain.
The biggest showdown Mohammed faced centred on Michael Gove. Last March, the Daily Mail reported that the then communities secretary was considering branding the MCB extremist. The move would have been catastrophic for the organisation and Mohammed.

Azerbaijani official: Over 20 historical monuments restored in Shusha, including five mosques
15 June 2025
More than 20 historical monuments, including five mosques, have been restored in the city of Shusha, according to Aydin Karimov, the Special Representative of Azerbaijan's President in the Shusha district.
At the international conference titled “The New World Order: Geopolitical Aspects and Global Challenges,” the official highlighted Shusha’s growing tourism sector, noting the recent opening of new hotels, museums, and recreational facilities. He added that the city attracted over 25,000 visitors in the first ten days of this month alone, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
He noted that a newly built school in Shusha is now serving around 200 students. A modern treatment and wellness centre has also been opened. One of the most significant projects is the construction of new residential buildings for the residents of Shusha.
The first residential complex, consisting of 23 newly built buildings and now home to 1,409 Shusha residents—former internally displaced persons—has already been inhabited, the president's representative said.

Ukrainian Drones Hit Russian Buk-M3 and Pantsir-S1 Air Defense Systems in Zaporizhzhia Region
DmytroShumlianskyi
June 15, 2025
Drones operated by Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence struck Russian air defense systems in the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia region, the agency’s press service reported.
Published video footage captures a Russian Pantsir-S1 surface-to-air missile and gun system firing a missile at an approaching drone, which misses.
The crew then attempts to shoot it down using 30 mm anti-aircraft guns. The drone’s first strike attempt also fails. Believing escape was more viable than continued engagement, the Russian crew started repositioning the vehicle.
On the drone’s second approach, it successfully hits the Pantsir-S1’s combat module. While the extent of the damage is unclear due to the lack of independent verification footage, the strike appears to have disabled a key component of the system, likely requiring significant repairs.

‘No Rear for Russia Anywhere’ – HUR Agents Strike Kaliningrad Military Sites, $5 Million in Damages
by Kateryna Zakharchenko,
June 15, 2025
Ukrainian intelligence agents from the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) blacked out Russian military-industrial and Armed Forces facilities in Kaliningrad, causing an estimated $5 million in damage, Kyiv Post reports, citing HUR sources.
Kaliningrad, formerly known as Königsberg, was part of Germany’s East Prussia until 1945. Following World War II, the Soviet Union annexed the city and renamed it.
According to the sources, around 4 a.m. on June 14, an attack was carried out on an industrial electrical substation in Kaliningrad. The sabotage completely cut off the power supply to nearby consumers, including Russian military-industrial facilities and Armed Forces units in the area.
The resulting blaze severely damaged the substation and led to a sustained power outage for nearby military facilities and enterprises.

Pakistan confirms OIC participation as PM Sharif, Türkiye’s Erdogan discuss Iran crisis
Arab News Pakistan
June 14, 2025
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday assured Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of his country’s participation in the upcoming Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meeting in Istanbul, as both leaders expressed deep concern over Israel’s recent attack on Iran and pledged to coordinate peace efforts.
The telephone call came as the OIC’s Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) prepares to convene in Türkiye on June 21–22 at a volatile moment for the bloc, with two of its member states — Pakistan and Iran — having faced military standoffs with their regional rivals.
While Pakistan’s border exchange with India lasted four days before a US-brokered ceasefire was reached last month, Iran remains in a state of heightened uncertainty following Israel’s strike on its military and nuclear facilities on Friday, as the war shows no signs of easing.

Pakistan PM Sharif’s ‘I condom’ Israel-Iran conflict tweet goes viral – Here what happened
June 15, 2025
Israel on Friday, launched a major wave of airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, reportedly killing several senior military officials and scientists. The strikes marked a sharp escalation in regional hostilities, with Tehran vowing retaliation. The global community braced for further developments, while leaders across the world issued formal responses. However, one such response from Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, unexpectedly grabbed headlines for an entirely different reason.
Amid the unfolding crisis, Prime Minister Sharif attempted to post a message of solidarity with Iran on social media. But instead of writing “I condemn,” a screenshot of his now-deleted X post showed the phrase, “I condom the attack on Iran by Israel…” The typo instantly became fodder for social media users, who flooded platforms with jokes, memes, and commentary.
‘“I Condom’: Pakistan’s Prime Minister mistakenly wrote ‘condom’ instead of ‘condemn’ in support of Iran,” one user posted, sharing the viral screenshot. The error, though quickly corrected, momentarily hijacked the narrative, diverting attention from a serious geopolitical development.

'Our enemy is your enemy': Netanyahu praises Donald Trump on his birthday; posts a video message amid Israel-Iran conflict
Jun 15, 2025
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu extended glowing birthday wishes to US President Donald Trump on Saturday, hailing him as a steadfast ally just as Israel continued its military offensive against Iran.
Tensions between the two leaders had reportedly surfaced in recent weeks, with Israeli media suggesting friction as Netanyahu signalled a readiness to strike Iran, even as Washington pursued negotiations with Tehran over its nuclear program.
But following Israel’s large-scale assault on Friday, conducted under Operation Rising Lion, Trump offered strong support, calling the strikes "excellent" and "very successful." Netanyahu responded by publicly praising the US president.
"Happy Birthday to you, President Donald J Trump," Netanyahu said in a statement. "You’ve been an extraordinary leader, decisive, courageous, with a clear vision and clear action. You have done great things for Israel."
With Israeli fighter jets targeting key sites tied to Iran’s atomic infrastructure, Netanyahu positioned the campaign as part of a global struggle against authoritarian aggression.

'Full strength of US forces will ... ': Donald Trump issues strong warning to Iran; says US not involved in attack on Iran
Jun 15, 2025
US President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Iran on Sunday, declaring that if the US is attacked in any way, it would unleash its military might "at levels never seen before."
The statement came as Trump sought to distance the United States from Israel’s recent massive airstrikes on Iran, which were conducted under Operation Rising Lion, resulting in rising tensions across the Middle East region.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote a direct message to the Khamenei-led Islamic Republic: "The US had nothing to do with the attack on Iran, tonight. If we are attacked in any way, shape or form by Iran, the full strength and might of the US Armed Forces will come down on you at levels never seen before. However, we can easily get a deal done between Iran and Israel, and end this bloody conflict!!!"
Trump’s position on Israel’s Operation Rising Lion, however, has shifted multiple times over the past few days. Just hours before the Israeli offensive, he had called for a diplomatic solution with Tehran.

On same day: Massive military parade in DC, 'No Kings' protests sweep US - how the day unfolded
Jun 15, 2025
Anti-Trump protests erupted across all 50 US states on Saturday as President Donald Trump presided over a grand military parade in the capital, marking both the US Army’s 250th anniversary and his 79th birthday.
Thousands took to the streets in a coordinated wave of demonstrations under the banner of “No Kings,” decrying what they called authoritarian symbolism and condemning the administration’s immigration and domestic policies. While Trump reviewed troops and delivered a short patriotic address accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump, cities nationwide saw tense clashes between protesters and police.
Held on the National Mall, the military parade featured troop formations, heavy artillery, and flyovers, though the latter was limited due to cloud cover and light rain. The event was postponed by several hours to avoid worsening weather conditions. Military bands played patriotic music, and select servicemembers shared tributes to American legacy and service. Trump kept his remarks brief, hailing the strength and resilience of the US military.

“GST taxes everybody. While it is efficient and straightforward, just six per cent across the board, I must ask, if everyone has to pay six per cent, why should the poor and the unemployed be taxed as well?” he said when closing the Perak Madani Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 here today.
Anwar said that although the opposition has suggested GST as a better option, the government has chosen to postpone its implementation to avoid burdening the people, who are still struggling with the rising cost of living.

From drug abuse to jobs, Anwar wants ministers, MPs to directly engage with grassroots to close policy gap
15 Jun 2025
LUMUT, June 15 — Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today urged all ministers, senior federal and state government officials, as well as policy and project implementers, to frequently engage with the public to better understand the issues faced by the people.
The Prime Minister said members of parliament should also adopt this approach to ensure local concerns are addressed more effectively and comprehensively.
“Even senior civil servants are requested to go to the ground, which is why we have initiatives like Sejati Madani and KampungAngkat Madani. These enable senior officials, including ministers, to identify any disconnect between policy statements and their implementation at the grassroots level.
“When we engage at the ground level, we discuss issues like education, unemployment, drug abuse, healthcare facilities and economic projects. All these must be addressed thoroughly because the challenges reported may differ between federal and state levels,” he said.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said this at the closing of the Perak-level Madani Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 held at Lumut Waterfront here today.

NZ’s Islamic Council calls on Luxon to condemn Israel over ‘unprovoked’ military strikes
June 15, 2025
The Islamic Council of New Zealand (ICONZ) has protested over Israel’s “unprovoked military strikes” against Iran, killing at least 80 people — 20 of them children, and called on the NZ government to publicly condemn Israeli’s actions.
An open letter to Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, read out to a Palestine rally in Henderson yesterday by advocate Dr Adnan Ali, said the attacks — targeting residential areas as well as military and nuclear facilities — represented a “grave escalation in regional tensions and pose a serious threat to global peace and stability”.
“This act of aggression undermines international diplomatic efforts and risks igniting a broader conflict that could engulf the Middle East and beyond,” the letter said.
The council’s letter, signed by ICONZ president Dr Muhammad Sajjad Haider Naqvi, said it was “particularly alarmed by the timing of the strikes, which come amid ongoing negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme”.

Faith And Power: Will Tinubu Fly Again On Muslim-Muslim Ticket?
by Sola Shittu
June 15, 2025
ABUJA – As Nigeria inches towards the 2027 general elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) faces a defining question: Can it pull off another presidential victory, using the same strategy that worked—controversially—in 2023?
While it secured victory, it also raised critical concerns about national unity, religious representation, and political inclusivity. Now, as political permutations begin to take shape, many are wondering if the same formula can work a second time.
The decision by the APC to field a Muslim-Muslim ticket in 2023 was, to many, a political gamble that defied Nigeria’s unwritten power-sharing principle.
Since the return to democracy in 1999, religious and regional balancing has been an essential feature of presidential tickets. The Tinubu-Shettima pairing shattered that precedent.
While the APC justified its choice on the grounds of political pragmatism and competence, critics saw it as insensitive to Nigeria’s religious diversity. Yet, the ticket managed to win—though with just 37% of the votes, amid record low-voter-turnout.
