Muslim youths attacked during iftar in Pune, 11 injured
By Nadeem Inamdar

------------
A mob of around 100 unidentified men allegedly attacked a group of Muslim youths who had gathered to break their Ramzan fast near Bopdeo Ghat on the outskirts of Pune on Friday evening. According to police, the assailants demanded that the youths remove their skull caps before assaulting them with sticks and sharp weapons, leaving at least 11 people injured.
The incident took place around 6.30 pm near Askarwadi–Bhiwari ahead of Bopdeo Ghat, as the youths were breaking their day-long roza at an open spot near a pond. A large mob reportedly arrived on motorcycles and launched the attack, prompting police to register a First Information Report (FIR).
Based on a complaint filed by Firoz Javed Sayyed, police have registered a case against unidentified persons at the Saswad police station.
The FIR states that around 100 men arrived on motorbikes and, without provocation, began intimidating the youths. Members of the mob allegedly questioned their presence, asking whether they owned the place and why they had come dressed in traditional attire. “The attackers also asked the youths to remove the skull caps from their heads,” the FIR stated.
Police said the mob abused the group and assaulted them with sticks and koytas (sickles). In the commotion, several people were injured, with at least 11 sustaining head and facial injuries.
Sandeep Singh Gill, superintendent of police (Pune rural), confirmed that an FIR had been registered and that an investigation was underway.
“We have so far identified 10 to 15 suspects. Multiple teams have been formed to trace them and ascertain their affiliation. These people are likely to have previously been involved in cow vigilantism, and we are gathering more information,” said Kumar Kadam, senior police inspector at Saswad police station.
Some victims alleged they were surrounded by a large group of men who questioned their presence before attacking them. One of the injured youths said the group had assembled only to break their fast when they were confronted by the mob.
Following the incident, residents from Kondhwa and members of the Muslim community gathered outside Saswad police station late on Friday night, demanding immediate action against the attackers.
“We had come to the Bopdeo Ghat dam area and later learnt in the village that any display of Muslim identity was not allowed there. We were fourteen and were surrounded by nearly 200 men. They removed our caps and assaulted us. The police did not act on our complaint for five hours. It was a public place that belongs to all citizens,” he said.
Feroze Javed Sayyed (36), a resident of NIBM, lodged a complaint with the Saswad police stating that the incident occurred around 6.30 pm at Askarwadi in Purandar. Sayyed said he had gone there with a group of friends on two- and four-wheelers to collectively break their Ramzan fast. The group had gathered near a pond and had brought food with them for iftaar.
The victims told police that the attackers assaulted them, hurled stones and forced them to run helter-skelter. The assailants also allegedly took away their mobile phones and cash. According to the FIR, the attackers taunted the victims, saying, “Is this your father’s place? Remove your Muslim skull caps. Why did you come here wearing Muslim dress?” The complaint states that nearly 150 persons were involved in the attack.
Police Inspector Kumar Kadam of Saswad police station said, “The youths from Kondhwa had visited the lake for iftaar when the incident took place. We are examining CCTV footage from the spot and further investigation is underway.”
Police said the FIR has been registered under sections 118(1), 189(2), 190, 191(2)(B), 351(2)(3) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with sections 4 and 25 of the Arms Act and section 135 of the Bombay Police Act. Further investigation is underway.

Pak's biggest export is terrorism, US shouldn't cosy up to it: Laura Loomer
Mar 14, 2026
By: Abhishek De

Far-right activist and Trump aide Laura Loomer at the India Today Conclave
-------------
Laura Loomer, a loyalist of US President Donald Trump and a far-right political activist, said Pakistan's biggest export to the world was "Islamic terrorism" and suggested that the US shouldn't cosy up to the Shehbaz Sharif government. Speaking at the India Today Conclave 2026, Loomer, widely known for her anti-Muslim rhetoric, called out Pakistan for propagating jihad openly.
In pointed remarks on Islamic terror, Loomer alleged that several terror attacks across the world could be traced back to Pakistan. Loomer, who was a constant presence beside Trump during his campaign, asserted that recent terror attacks in India and the UK were linked to extremist networks in Pakistan.
"Pakistan's biggest export to the world is Islamic terrorism, and I don't believe the US should be cosying up to the Pakistani government at all," she said.
"Pakistan operates as an openly jihadist and pro-Sharia state, and when you look at many of the Islamist terror attacks around the world, there is often some connection back to Pakistan," Loomer further said.
The strategic partnership between the United States, India, and Israel is one of the strongest in the world: @LauraLoomer #IndiaTodayConclave26 | @PreetiChoudhry @Gauravcsawant pic.twitter.com/crJjwdWJSy— IndiaToday (@IndiaToday) March 14, 2026
To buttress her claim, Loomer cited last week's conviction of a Pakistani national, Asif Merchant, for plotting to assassinate Trump and senior American politicians.
Merchant has been accused of trying to recruit people in the US to target Trump at the behest of Iran. The alleged plot was in retaliation for the killing of Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani in 2020, during Trump's first term as president.
"The incident makes one thing clear. All of the terrorism, for the most part, is largely coming from Pakistan," Loomer underscored.
In the same breath, Loomer emphasised that the US's strategic partnership with India and Israel was among the strongest, if not the strongest, in the world.
The remarks from one of Trump's closest aides come at a time when ties between Pakistan and the US have seen a drastic change in the last few months. The credit, however, goes to Pakistan for massaging Trump's ego and doing his bidding.
From signing cryptocurrency deals to crediting Trump for ending last year's conflict with India and proposing his name for the Nobel Peace Prize, Pakistan has been on an overdrive to curry favour with the US. The countries have also signed a $500 million deal on critical minerals and rare earths.
In June 2025, Trump hosted Asim Munir for a private lunch -- marking the first time a US president engaged Pakistan's army chief alone, without any civilian leadership present. The duo met twice later that year.
Loomer said she had discussed the issue of "Islamic terror" with Trump, and, personally, she would prefer not to see Islamic leaders being welcomed into the Oval Office.
"But he is the president of the United States. He has to conduct diplomacy and engage with leaders from around the world," she said.
Known for her radical views and inflammatory rhetoric, Loomer outlined that she wasn't in favour of Muslims holding public office in the US. She said the Muslim politicians "put Islam front and centre in everything" and criticised leaders like Ilhan Omar, New York City Mayor Zohran Mandani, and Michigan Representative Rashida Talib.
She was of the view that these US leaders taking an oath on the Quran could not be loyal to the US. While using a Bible during swearing-in in the US is rooted in tradition, it is not constitutionally mandated. In 2025, Trump took the oath of office without placing his hand on the Bible.
In recent months, several of Trump's aides, including Vice President JD Vance, have propagated Christian fundamentalism, igniting a debate on religious freedom in the US.
Born in Arizona in 1993, the conspiracy theorist called for stronger cooperation between the US, India and Israel to combat the growing threat of "global Islamic terrorism".
"Without the leadership of Trump, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Benjamin Netanyahu, the world would be more susceptible to Islamic militants," she said.
Highlighting the recent terror attacks in India, Loomer said the country bore the brunt of terrorism for decades. She cited several incidents, including the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, the 2019 Pulwama strike, and the 2025 Pahalgam carnage.
"These are not anomalies, they're a grim reality of a barbaric Third-world ideology that has claimed countless American and Indian lives and displaced communities," Loomer said.
Before signing off, Loomer asserted that Islamic terrorism was the "biggest fight ahead" for the US and India, calling it a "mutual enemy".

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issues warning to US companies in Middle East, lists targets
Beril Çanakcı
15.03.2026

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned the US on Saturday to evacuate all American industries in the Middle East and urged residents near the facilities to leave to avoid harm, according to the semi-official Fars News Agency.
The agency released a list of American industrial, energy, and financial companies in the region, saying they “will be considered legitimate targets by Iran’s armed forces.”
Among the companies highlighted were Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Microsoft, Oracle, ExxonMobil, Citigroup, Amazon Web Services, the NSO Group, KKR, Boston Consulting Group, Bain & Company and Trafigura. Locations included offices and facilities in Amman, Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
On March 2, Amazon said two of its data center facilities in the United Arab Emirates and one in Bahrain sustained physical impacts from drone strikes.
Regional tensions have surged since the US and Israel launched a joint attack against Iran on Feb. 28. The strikes have killed at least 1,300 people in Iran, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Tehran has responded with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure while disrupting global markets and aviation.

‘Another act of aggression’: India condemns Pakistan’s airstrikes in Afghanistan
By Anuj Shrivastava

The Afghan Taliban government accused Pakistan of carrying out airstrikes in Kabul and several areas in eastern Afghanistan. Islamabad denied deliberately targeting civilians and said its operations were aimed at Pakistani Taliban militants and their support networks.
India on Saturday condemned the recent airstrikes by Pakistan in Afghanistan, terming the strikes yet another act of aggression by a Pakistani establishment that remains hostile to the idea of a sovereign Afghanistan, and reiterated India’s stance that Afghanistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity must be respected. The airstrikes by Pakistan had killed 16 civilians and injured 15 others besides damaging infrastructure in Afghanistan.
Afghanistan’s ruling authorities condemned the Pakistani attacks as violations of their sovereignty. Hours after the Pakistani attacks, Afghan forces targeted Pakistani military centres.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared a statement on Saturday that said, “India condemns the air strikes by Pakistan in Afghanistan’s territory, leading to the death of several civilians and destruction of civilian infrastructure. This is yet another act of aggression by a Pakistani establishment that remains hostile to the idea of a sovereign Afghanistan. India reiterates that Afghanistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity should be fully respected.”
The Afghan Taliban government on Friday accused Pakistan of carrying out airstrikes in Kabul and several areas in eastern Afghanistan.
Afghan government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said Pakistani aircraft also struck fuel depots belonging to the private airline Kam Air near Kandahar airport in southern Afghanistan.
Islamabad denied deliberately targeting civilians and said that its operations were aimed at Pakistani Taliban militants and their support networks operating from across the border.
Hours later, authorities in Kabul said Afghanistan’s air force had responded by targeting Pakistani military installations near Islamabad and in parts of northwestern Pakistan.
Islamabad described the escalating conflict as an “open war” that raised concerns about regional stability even as the US-Israeli conflict with Iran continues.
Pakistan accused Afghanistan’s Taliban-led government of harbouring militant groups, particularly the Pakistani Taliban (TTP), which it alleged carry out attacks inside Pakistan after crossing the porous border.

Economy minister: Malaysia must shift to solar and hydropower as Gulf war hits petrol supply
15 Mar 2026

-------
JOHOR BAHRU, March 15 — Malaysia needs to accelerate the implementation of the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), particularly the development of renewable energy such as solar and hydropower, to reduce reliance on fossil fuels as the main source of energy.
Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said the government’s energy transition plan would not only reduce fossil fuel consumption but also strengthen domestic energy supply security.
“Renewable energy has the advantage of being domestic in nature, meaning it does not depend on imported fuel and is less exposed to disruptions in the overall energy supply chain,” he told reporters after attending the Jualan Rahmah Kasih Sayang programme here today.
He was commenting on suggestions by academics that Malaysia should reduce its dependence on fossil fuels as its main energy source following the West Asia conflict, which has disrupted global oil supply and pushed up prices.
He highlighted that Malaysia currently has about 25 per cent installed capacity from renewable sources, which provides some resilience against potential disruptions in energy supply.
The minister added that the government is continuously assessing measures to accelerate the energy transition process, in line with recommendations from economists and academics, to ensure that the country is better prepared to face global challenges.
Renewable energy, such as solar, enables Malaysia to generate power continuously as long as natural resources are available, while supporting the country’s carbon neutrality and energy sustainability targets
Tensions in West Asia have remained high since Feb 28, when Israel and the United States (US) launched attacks on Iran, prompting retaliatory strikes by Tehran against US interests in Gulf countries.
Tehran had effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway between Iran and Oman, which is among the world’s most important shipping routes for oil and gas, with a significant share of global energy supply passing through the strait daily.

Islamic Resistance in Iraq Announces Reward for Information on US Officials
15 Mar 20226
Baghdad – Saba:The Islamic Resistance in Iraq announced on Saturday a reward for anyone who provides intelligence on high-ranking officials in the US military or foreign intelligence agencies operating in Iraq and the region.
In a statement, the resistance said that "the tightening of the noose around the Americans on the ground has reduced their security options, whether they are in the US military or in other intelligence agencies in Iraq and the region, and this has pushed them to take up alternative civilian locations that they believe are safer," according to the Iranian news agency Tasnim.

UK extremism expert: As Islamist narratives go mainstream, politicians fear confrontation
By Robert Philpot
14 March 2026
LONDON — Britain is losing an “uphill battle” against Islamist extremists, who are deploying antisemitism as a “strategic tool” to undermine Western societies, a leading expert has warned.
In an interview with The Times of Israel, Charlotte Littlewood paints a disturbing picture of the United Kingdom’s failure to tackle Islamism, which, she believes, is strengthening the hand of groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood.
Littlewood, lead researcher for the UK at the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy, also cautions about the rise of “young, hip” Islamists online, who are forging alliances not simply with the far left, but also with the extreme right.
Littlewood’s warning comes against the backdrop of rising antisemitism in the UK in the wake of the bloody October 7, 2023, Hamas invasion of Israel and the ensuing conflict in Gaza. Many of Britain’s cities and university campuses have witnessed fiercely anti-Israel demonstrations, while synagogues and Jewish schools have been forced to ramp up their security.
In February, the Community Security Trust, which monitors antisemitism, reported near-record levels of antisemitic incidents in Britain in 2025. On Yom Kippur, a terrorist attack at the Heaton Park Synagogue in Manchester resulted in the deaths of two worshipers. The attack sparked the highest daily totals for anti-Jewish hate incidents recorded throughout 2025.
Last week, UK ministers followed up on a pledge after the Heaton Park attack to publish their plans to combat extremism. The “social cohesion plan” says the government will make it harder for extremists and “hate preachers” to enter the UK, publish an annual “state of extremism” report, and launch a crackdown on antisemitism on campuses and in public services such as the National Health Service. Regulators will also be given new powers to shut down charities that promote extremism.
Both Labour and Conservative politicians say action can’t come soon enough. Conservative parliamentarian Paul Goodman warned in a debate in the House of Lords last month that the UK lacks an “overarching policy that seeks to counter Islamist and other extremism in our institutions and civil society.”
While Goodman faulted governments of both parties, he noted that Labour’s response to extremism since taking office in July 2024 has been sluggish. It has left the post of Commissioner for Countering Extremism vacant and its post-election “rapid review” of extremism policy has never been published.
Littlewood shares this analysis. “I think we’ve lost [the] uphill battle at this stage,” she says. “It’s always been a … battle, but now, in the post-October 7 climate, with a new government and a lot of institutional amnesia … and no real counter-extremism agenda, we are just awash with very clever human rights language on the issue, and it’s just [seen as] too toxic to do anything about.”
The government’s new plan, she says, lacks a “renewed counter-extremism strategy” and side-steps the recommendations of an independent review commissioned by the outgoing Conservative administration in 2023. It warned that while the focus of counter-terrorism programs on the growing threat posed by the extreme right was important, “the facts clearly demonstrate that the most lethal threat in the last 20 years has come from Islamism.”
Before becoming an academic specializing in extremism, inter-community conflict and antisemitism, Littlewood worked for the UK’s counterterrorism program, Prevent. She believes that one consequence of the current climate is that the Muslim Brotherhood’s long-running goal of persuading non-Muslims in the West to adopt its worldview is gaining traction.
“We’re now in a very difficult situation where you hear echoes of Islamist narratives; anti-Western, heavily pro-Palestinian, and often quite antisemitic, in the mainstream, which just shows the success of the Muslim Brotherhood strategy,” she says.
Littlewood believes a “real concern” is that Islamists are not only targeting the Jewish community because of Israel, but also as a way of forging allegiances with both the far left and the far right.
“I think that antisemitism has become their main strategic tool for upending the liberal Western order,” she says. “It’s very clever, and they’re using it to create collaboration and to get people engaged in their narrative and their way of viewing the world, and it’s being very successful.”
Muslim Brotherhood strategy documents from the 1990s placed the Israel-Palestinian conflict front and center of the effort to make their message appealing to wider Western audiences.
In the UK, the controversy sparked by the 2003 Iraq war hastened the building of alliances between Islamist groups and far-left politicians and activists.
“I think that [the far left and Islamists] just find common ground quite naturally, but if you look back at the 1990s Muslim Brotherhood’s strategic documents, they talk about making these alliances. It’s strategic, and it’s planned,” Littlewood says.
“They’re young, popular, with big followings [on social media], very clever in how they articulate themselves [so as] not to come across sounding like al -Qaeda or ISIS,” Littlewood says. However, she warns, the Islamist ideals they are professing “could lead someone along a similar path.”
Islamist influencer Mohammed Hijab, right, appears with antisemitic streamer Sneako to discuss ‘Jewish supremacy’ in this screenshot from March 1, 2026. (YouTube)
It’s knowing how to speak to people and how to build on people’s current feelings and grievances and what they care about,” she says. “Islamists know very well how to do that with the left, and they’re just starting to do that with the right.”
She cites the way in which 5 Pillars, a hardline Islamist website, has featured interviews on its podcast with British far-right figures including Nick Griffin, the former leader of the British National Party; Mark Collett, leader of the neo-Nazi Patriotic Alliance; and Jayda Fransen, the ex-leader of Britain First.
While Collett and Griffin are strongly anti-Israel, Littlewood warns that other far-right figures who profess to be more sympathetic to the Jewish state, such as Tommy Robinson, cannot be trusted.
“He has always been very divisive and dangerous,” she says. “I think he flip-flops according to what he wants to achieve politically at that time, and he jumps into any mess he can to stoke up as much tension as possible.”
“The far right has the capacity to be violent and is getting more extreme in its rhetoric,” she says. “We absolutely shouldn’t take our eyes off that.”
But Littlewood believes that politicians and public servants have a “greater ease and comfort” in dealing with the far right than they do with Islamists.
Littlewood’s experience in Prevent — she worked in the northeast London borough of Waltham Forest — causes her to believe that official reticence in tackling Islamism sometimes stems from political calculation, especially in areas where there is a large Muslim vote.
“Rightly or wrongly, the assumption is that if you get involved with tackling Islamism, you’re going to lose that voting base,” she says. “That assumption may not necessarily be correct, but there are a few loud enough voices [who] say that they have control of these votes, and that they are very influential, and that … can really intimidate government into stepping away from these issues.”

Naturalized but radicalized: Recent terror attacks expose glaring problems with citizenship vetting
By Amanda Head
March 14, 2026
As many increasingly argue that the U.S. immigration system is too lenient, four incidents in less than two weeks are being investigated or classified as terrorist attacks linked to Islamist extremism. Most of the alleged perpetrators are naturalized U.S. citizens.
Throughout history, we have expected people who immigrated here to become assimilated to the American culture. And I think over the last 30 years or so, there's been this idea that we no longer need to do that, and this is an example of the consequences of those kinds of bad policies," Rep. Harriet Hageman, R-Wyo., told Just The News.
"We need to be more nimble when things are changing on the world stage, in the geopolitical realm. We need to be able to say, 'Now, wait a minute, maybe for right now, in light of the fact that we've got a war in the Middle East where we're attempting to take out the state sponsor of terrorism and free the world from the stranglehold that they've had for 47 years, should we maybe be reconsidering what we're doing in terms of bringing people into this country?'"
On March 1 in Austin, Texas, Ndiaga Diagne, a 53-year-old Senegalese immigrant and naturalized citizen, opened fire at Buford's Backyard Beer Garden while wearing a "Property of Allah" hoodie, killing two and injuring over a dozen. The FBI is probing it as potential terrorism tied to pro-Iran sentiments, though no explicit anti-Jewish intent was reported. CBS News reported that he wore an Iran flag T-shirt under the hoodie during the attack, and had photos of Iranian leaders at home.
On March 7 in New York City, teenagers Emir Balat and Ibrahim Kayumi, reportedly inspired by ISIS, hurled homemade explosive devices at anti-Islam protesters near Gracie Mansion, failing to cause injuries but leading to terrorism charges. Their motive appeared rooted in jihadist ideology against perceived islamophobes. Balat is a natural-born citizen but Kayami, now a U.S. citizen, was born to Afghan nationals who were naturalized in 2004 and 2009.
On Thursday at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, Mohamed Bailor Jalloh—a former Army National Guardsman previously convicted for ISIS support and released from prison in 2024—shouted "Allahu Akbar" before shooting and killing one person while wounding two others in an ROTC classroom, an act the FBI deemed terrorism driven by radical Islamist beliefs, though not specifically targeting Jews. USAToday reported that Jalloh is a naturalized U.S. citizen originally from Sierra Leone.
Finally, later Thursday in West Bloomfield, Michigan, a 41-year-old gunman born in Lebanon (identified in some reports as Ayman Ghazaleh) rammed a vehicle into Temple Israel synagogue—home to a preschool—and opened fire, injuring a security guard before being killed in a shootout.
Federal officials labeled it a targeted act of violence against the Jewish community, fueled by surging antisemitism amid the Iran conflict, with Jewish leaders citing it as part of a broader wave of threats to synagogues. Though born in Lebanon, Ghazaleh is a U.S. citizen.
The debate over whether U.S. immigration standards and vetting processes are too lax has intensified in recent years, particularly amid concerns about national security and public safety following high-profile incidents involving naturalized immigrants.
Critics argue that the system is insufficiently rigorous, pointing to reports like the Department of Homeland Security Inspector General's 2024 audit, which highlighted significant gaps in screening and vetting procedures for foreign nationals at borders and in asylum applications, warning that such lapses risk admitting dangerous individuals or allowing threats to reside in the country.
President Donald Trump has been a leading voice, repeatedly asserting that vetting is inadequate and allowing criminals and terrorists entry, referencing an explosion in "migrant crime" under the Biden administration.
Trump's administration implemented "extreme vetting" policies, including travel bans and continuous screening of all visa holders, attempting to amend prior standards that were weak and dismantled.
Former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem supported broader immigration enforcement powers, as seen in her involvement in a 2025 Supreme Court case challenging restrictions on federal agents' ability to conduct stops based on factors like ethnicity or language, arguing for fewer limits to address perceived laxity in border controls.
Additionally, a majority of Republicans—65% according to a 2025 YouGov poll—favor decreasing legal immigration or reducing it to zero, reflecting a partisan view that the system is overly permissive. Organizations like the Center for Immigration Studies have echoed these sentiments, warning that poorly enforced limits could lead to immigration flows reaching 10 million annually if relaxed further.

Soludo breaks fast with Anambra Muslim community, urges unity
March 15, 2026
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, on Saturday hosted members of the Muslim community across the three senatorial zones of the state for the 2026 Iftar in a display of “communal solidarity, inclusivity and long-lasting unity”.
The gathering held at the Government House, otherwise known as the “Light House” on Saturday, also enabled the governor to break the daily fasting with the Muslim leaders as they observe the Holy month of Ramadan.
Soludo addressed his guests, expressing his profound gratitude to the Muslim community in Anambra State for their endorsement during the last governorship election.
The governor further highlighted the statistical weight of their support, noting that his administration secured a landslide victory with 73 per cent of the total votes cast.
Taking to his Facebook page on Sunday, the governor appreciated their commitment to the brotherhood, promising not to disappoint them while urging them to continue to work hard in building a society that everyone will be proud of.
“As we share a meal together, I am reminded that we are stronger when we stand united. Let’s keep building a peaceful, prosperous Anambra for all! May Anambra continue to win!”
Soludo also referenced the reinstated national anthem as a symbol of the “One Nation, One Destiny” philosophy, urging Nigerians to live in unity and love for one another.
Reaffirming his inclusive policy, he declared, “Once you are resident here, you have equal rights with everyone. All Nigerians should be able to choose where they want to live without fear of molestation or rejection.”
The Governor noted a significant decline in insecurity, specifically pointing out that the once-prevalent herder-farmer clashes have been reduced to a point of “non-significance.”
Soludo also observed that the spirit of Anambra is one of migration and integration, “You find Anambra people literally in every village,” he said, using this as a parallel to welcome all Nigerians who have chosen to make Anambra their home.
During the event, the Secretary General of the Anambra State Muslim Council, Alhaji Sanni Ejoh, formally congratulated Governor Soludo on his re-election.
He emphasised that such gatherings are vital in deepening the cordial relationship between the state government and the Muslim community, noting that the support for the Governor was evidenced by his decisive victory at the polls.

On the road in Bihar, a conversation reveals how prejudice is manufactured against India’s Muslims
15-03-2026
We were in Bihar on our way from Narendrapur to Patna. Narendrapur is a village near Jiradei, the birthplace of India’s first president, Rajendra Prasad. I was returning after taking part in a reflective workshop on Mahatma Gandhi at the campus of an organisation called Parivartan. Our car had entered the road through Siwan.
As we drove along, I tried to look for familiar landmarks because this was the very road on which, from childhood through adolescence, I had spent countless hours every day. The road was narrow and crowded with people. Our car crawled forward slowly. On both sides of the road, there were women wearing hijabs and burqas.
A faint air of tension entered the vehicle, although the driver was merely describing what he saw. He had not expressed an opinion. But it surprised me that the sight of Muslims in Bihar should elicit a comment like this. The community forms nearly 17% of the population, and there is hardly any part of Bihar that Muslims do not live.
“Yes, there is quite a sizeable Muslim population here,” I replied. “I used to live here. I spent my childhood in a Muslim locality, Sheikh Mohalla.” I added, almost defensively, “Everyone used to live together.”

Healthy Sheer Khurma for Ramadan 2026 Made with Healthy Ingredient Options for a Nourishing Dessert Experience
By Tarishi Shrivastava
Mar 15, 2026
A festive bowl of sheer khurma can be reimagined with thoughtful ingredient choices for Ramadan 2026. This well-known dessert made with vermicelli, milk, and nuts can be prepared in a lighter way without losing its rich flavour. Simple changes in ingredients can help create a modern gourmet twist.
Using toned milk or plant-based milk alternatives can help reduce heaviness while maintaining a creamy texture. Adding naturally sweet dates or figs in place of refined sweeteners can bring natural flavour along with fibre and minerals. These options help create a dessert that feels nourishing and balanced.
Dry fruits such as almonds, pistachios, and seeds can improve the nutritional value of sheer khurma. They provide healthy fats, plant protein, and essential vitamins that support steady energy levels. Light roasting and controlled portion sizes can also make the dish feel more suitable for mindful eating.

Fifth column by Tavleen Singh: Indian lefties and the war
by Tavleen Singh
March 15, 2026
If you grew up as I did in that bleak, wretchedly poor India when Rahul Gandhi’s granny was prime minister, you learned to become suspicious of lefties and fake liberals. You learned to discern the unashamed hypocrisy that lurked behind the fine sentiments they spouted about human rights and political repression. A month after I got my first reporter’s job in India in The Statesman newspaper, Indira Gandhi declared a state of Emergency and imposed press censorship that was brutally executed. It was truly a dark and dreadful chapter in our history, but she had the full support of the Communist Party of India. And the Soviet Union.
By then I was already questioning the anti-Americanism that defined the Indian leftist’s ideology and wondering why they never noticed the terrible crimes committed by their heroes in China and the Soviet Union. Mao and Stalin remain heroes of the Indian left to this day. I also noticed that when it came to sending their children to college, these lefties usually chose universities in the western countries they supposedly despised and it was to hospitals in these countries that they went when they got sick. As years went by, I developed a deep disdain for lefties of all genres. When they began to openly support radical Islam this disdain deepened. I also discovered that whenever this coalition took up a public position on anything, I could be certain that my place would be on the other side.
This happened last week when loud leftist voices were heard in public forums in Delhi and Mumbai condemning the United States and Israel for their ‘aggression’ in Iran. From the start of this war two weeks ago Muslim protests have erupted to mourn the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and now this lament is being fortified with voices from the ‘secular’ left. People who have never opposed the vile ways of the Taliban next door or the evil deeds of the Ayatollahs have been shrill in condemning Israel for what happened in Gaza. What puzzles me is why it is so hard for all forms of brutality and political repression to be condemned?
Along with the noise that we hear from Indian leftists and jihadis, voices have started to be heard from officials who served governments in those ‘secular’ decades when the Dynasty ruled and people like me (privileged and highborn) made up the entire ruling class. These officials have been openly critical of the Modi government’s ‘silence’ on the war. They have attacked Narendra Modi personally for making India ‘irrelevant’ because of this silence. They make it clear that they would have liked the Prime Minister to openly condemn the attack on Iran.

Pakistan strikes Afghan base after its president warns ‘red line’ crossed
By Al Jazeera Staff
14 Mar 2026
Pakistan has carried out strikes on an Afghan military facility in Kandahar after Taliban drones targeted civilian areas and military installations across the country.
The strikes on Saturday came after Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the overnight drone attacks, warning Kabul it had “crossed a red line by attempting to target our civilians”.
Pakistan’s military said the drones, described as locally produced and rudimentary, were intercepted before reaching their targets, though falling debris wounded two children in Quetta and civilians in Kohat and Rawalpindi.
A security source told the AFP news agency that airspace around the capital, Islamabad, had been temporarily closed when the drones were detected.

Pakistan launches airstrikes on Taliban targets in Kandahar
March 15, 2026
Pakistani military carried out airstrikes on an Afghan military facility in Kandahar on Friday in retaliation for drone attacks launched by the Taliban targeting civilian and military installations across Pakistan.
President Asif Ali Zardari, announcing the strikes, said, “Kabul has crossed all red lines by attempting to target our civilians.” He confirmed that the Taliban drones were intercepted before reaching their intended targets, but falling debris injured two children in Quetta and civilians in Kohat and Rawalpindi.
Authorities in Islamabad stated that the Kandahar facility had been used as a base to launch drone attacks and support cross-border terrorist activity.
The latest exchange marks the sharpest single-day escalation in a conflict that has been building since late February, when Islamabad launched military operations against Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) inside Afghan territory.

Pakistan employees face the heat: PM Shehbaz Sharif approves up to 30% salary cuts in state firms amid fuel crisis
Mar 14, 2026
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday approved salary cuts ranging from 5 to 30 per cent for employees of state-owned enterprises and autonomous institutions as part of a wider austerity drive to address the economic fallout of the ongoing fuel crisis.
The decision was taken during a high-level review meeting chaired by the prime minister to assess austerity and savings measures announced earlier this week after the sharp rise in fuel prices linked to the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the meeting reviewed the impact of fuel price fluctuations and steps taken by the government to reduce expenditure.
“It was decided in the meeting that, like government employees, there will be a 5-30 per cent cut in the salaries of employees of state-owned enterprises and autonomous institutions under government patronage,” the statement said.

Zardari warns Afghan Govt
March 15, 2026
Pakistan’s president on Saturday warned neighbouring Afghanistan’s Taliban Government that it had “crossed a red line” by launching drone attacks on civilian areas in Pakistan and said the administration in Kabul has brought “grave consequences upon itself.” The statement by Asif Ali Zardari was the latest in what has become the deadliest fighting yet between the two neighbors. The cross-border clashes, which erupted late last month, have shown no signs of abating despite efforts by China and Turkey to broker a ceasefire. Pakistan said its forces intercepted the drones launched on Friday but that falling debris injured two children in the city of Quetta and two elsewhere in the country. The Afghan Government accused Pakistan of conducting airstrikes in Kabul.

Türkiye to resist 'all kinds of provocations' amid Mideast tension, vows foreign minister
Esra Tekin
15.03.2026
Türkiye's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Saturday vowed that Ankara will "resist all kinds of provocations" amid rising tensions in the Middle East, stressing that Türkiye has a clear determination not to be dragged into the ongoing conflict.
Speaking at a joint news conference in Ankara with his Bangladeshi counterpart Khalilur Rahman, Fidan said President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s determination on the issue is clear and emphasized that Türkiye does not want to take part in an "ongoing unjust war."
"Türkiye will resist all kinds of provocations. Our president’s determination on this issue is clear. Türkiye does not want to take part in this ongoing unjust war, and we are absolutely against being dragged into it. We also have a firm determination not to fall for provocations," Fidan said.
He stressed that, while Türkiye possesses strong deterrence and military capabilities, diplomacy must urgently be activated to prevent further escalation in the region.
"Türkiye’s deterrence and military capabilities are extremely high. When we think strategically and wisely, we always have ideas about when and where this power should be used. But at this stage, diplomacy must urgently be activated," he said.
Referring to the escalating regional tensions following Israeli and US attacks on Iran and Tehran’s retaliatory actions, Fidan said Türkiye is closely monitoring developments and reiterated that Ankara seeks to avoid further escalation.

Resign if you can’t maintain law and order: Allahabad HC to SP, DM on Sambhal mosque prayer row
March 15, 2026
The Allahabad High Court on Saturday (March 15, 2026) set aside an administrative order restricting the number of people allowed to offer prayers at a mosque in Sambhal district.
The petition challenged the order that limited the number of people permitted to offer namaz at the mosque. During the hearing, the court observed that if the local administration is unable to maintain law and order, officials concerned should step aside.
The Bench remarked that if the Superintendent of Police (SP) and District Magistrate (DM) believe that a law and order situation may arise due to a large number of people offering prayers inside the premises, they should either resign from their posts or seek a transfer out of Sambhal.

Iran has plans for other global corridors
March 14, 2026
TEHRAN – When he was planning to attack Iran for the second time in less than nine months—and again in the middle of nuclear negotiations—U.S. President Donald Trump was warned about the potentially devastating consequences of the day after, according to reports by U.S. media.
His military and economic advisers cautioned that if Iran chose to constrict navigation through the Strait of Hormuz in response, forcing the waterway open again would not be easy for U.S. naval forces, which could face Iranian missile and drone attacks, the same reports add. Trump allegedly replied that Iran’s government would collapse before it could move to “shut” the strait.
The U.S. president nevertheless moved forward with his plans. Together with Israel, he assassinated the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in strikes on his office in Tehran on February 28, and on the same day bombed an all-girls elementary school in southern Iran, killing more than 165 children. In the days since, the United States and Israel have continued striking Iran, mostly targeting additional schools, hospitals, and residential buildings.
Trump now declares himself the victor, citing photographs of destruction in Iranian cities. Analysts, however, argue that the United States has already lost the war, having failed to achieve its stated objective of toppling the Islamic Republic while also being unable to prevent Iran’s unprecedented response. That response has included sustained strikes on U.S. bases in the region, heavy attacks on Israeli positions in the occupied territories, and, most significantly, control of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

Afghan returnees crave peace as border conflict disrupts resettlement
2026-03-15
TORKHAM, Afghanistan, March 15 (Xinhua) -- Standing in front of a damaged muddy shop and thinking about his future and the paths to revive his store, Zardad, 28, whispered with sorrow that the conflict has devoured in its flames everything he had in the shop -- the only source of his income.
A former refugee who returned to his homeland, Afghanistan, a couple of years ago, Zardad established a shop at the Torkham crossing point to sell vehicle spare parts. He said the foreign invasions and civil unrest had forced his family to migrate decades ago, and the recent conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan destroyed his shop.
Once a hustle-bustle border town connecting Afghanistan to neighboring Pakistan, Torkham has remained closed over the past five months in the wake of clashes along the border.
"The outcome of war is nothing more than the displacement of people. Civilians are the victims of war," observed Zar Gul Etmanzai, head of the Shopkeepers Union in Torkham.

Pakistan's Afghan policy has backfired: Report
14 Mar 2026
Washington: Pakistan's Afghan policy, long driven by the pursuit of "strategic depth" against India, has evolved into a declared "open war" as TTP flourishes, Afghan refugees flee in large numbers and global criticism intensifies.
According to a report in ‘One World Outlook’, Pakistan's gamble of nurturing the Taliban to ensure compliance has backfired. Moreover, claims of sovereignty by the Taliban and its association with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have further strained relations.
“Pakistan midwifed the Taliban’s rise, sheltering its leaders and betting on a friendly Kabul to neutralise militants and counter India. The 2021 takeover promised payoff, until the TTP, ideological cousins, exploded from Afghan sanctuaries. By 2025, TTP attacks ravaged Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing scores; 37 strikes hit nine districts in early 2026 alone. Taliban inaction, viewing TTP as Pakistan’s mess, prompted coercion: border closures gutted Afghan trade, while February 22 airstrikes targetted seven TTP/ISKP camps in Nangarhar and Paktika, claiming 80 militants dead,” the report mentioned.
“Civilian toll, 18 killed, including children, ignited fury. Afghanistan retaliated on February 26 with drone strikes and clashes across Kandahar to Nuristan, seizing outposts and killing 55 Pakistanis, per Kabul. Pakistan’s Operation Ghazab Lil Haq followed: 46 airstrikes hit Kabul, Kandahar, and Paktia, capturing 32 square kilometres in the Ghudwana enclave,” it noted.

Ministry to strengthen mosque-based cooperatives as economic hubs
March 15, 2026
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Cooperatives Minister Ferry Juliantono highlighted his ministry's support for strengthening mosque-based cooperatives as centers for community economic turnover.
While inaugurating the cooperative of the Indonesian Mosque-Loving Community (MCMI) at the Sunda Kelapa Mosque in Jakarta on Saturday (March 14), he emphasized that mosques should not only function as places of worship but also as hubs for community economic empowerment.
He underlined in a press release on Sunday that the Ministry of Cooperatives is fully committed to mentoring, coaching, and providing financing access for mosque-based cooperatives.
“The ministry's role is to develop cooperatives. We have the Revolving Fund Management Agency (LPDB) ready to help expand MCMI's cooperative activities,” he said.
Juliantono expressed hope that MCMI could serve as a model for mosque-based cooperatives in other regions, following the success of Islamic boarding school-based cooperatives in East Java, which now hold trillions of rupiah in assets.
To achieve this, he affirmed that the ministry is ready to collaborate with the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI) and the Ministry of Religious Affairs to create a systematic roadmap for developing mosque-based cooperatives.

Johari: US-Malaysia ART now void after Supreme Court ruling against Trump tariffs
By Malay Mail
15 Mar 2026
KUALA LUMPUR, March 15 — The Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) between Malaysia and the US is no longer valid, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani confirmed.
The minister explained that the trade arrangement became inapplicable following a US Supreme Court ruling in February that struck down broad tariff measures introduced under former President Donald Trump, the New Straits Times reported.
“The United States Supreme Court has ruled that if you want to impose tariffs, you must have reasons. They cannot impose tariffs on a blanket basis.”
Speaking to reporters after an event in his constituency, Johari said the US is now shifting its trade enforcement strategy. Washington is relying on other tools, such as a temporary 10 per cent tariff under Section 122 of the Trade Act, which could be followed by a review under the more stringent Section 301.

More expensive dates? How the Mid-East conflict is affecting supply of Ramadan food in S-E Asia
Mar 15, 2026
JAKARTA/SINGAPORE – At stalls in Jakarta’s Tanah Abang Market, stacks of imported dates and pistachios from Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt typically lure crowds of customers.
But traders at the market, South-east Asia’s largest wholesale hub, warn that supplies of these Ramadan bestsellers are thinning and prices are rising as the escalation of the Middle East conflict has tightened the supply of goods that traditionally arrive through Gulf trade routes.
“The prices of certain dates have risen significantly... Bam dates, Golden Valley dates and pistachios. These have seen a sharp increase in just the past few weeks,” a sales attendant at the Shabani store in Tanah Abang, who gave his name only as Alfin, told The Straits Times on March 11.
He added that most of his store’s merchandise comes from importers receiving bulk volumes shipped by vessels from the Jebel Ali port in Dubai, including pistachios originating from Iran.
At Alfin’s store, the retail price of Bam dates, which also originate from Iran, has gone up to 120,000 rupiah (S$9) a kilogram, from 80,000 rupiah a few weeks ago, a 50 per cent increase. Retail prices for pistachios and almonds have risen by 30 per cent.

QC set to launch ‘27th Night Challenge’ today
15/03/2026
As part of its Ramadan campaign ‘Good Starts With You’, Qatar Charity (QC) will launch the ‘27th Night Challenge’ on Sunday evening under the theme ‘Warding off Calamity’, in what is expected to be the largest fundraising event on YouTube dedicated to life-saving medical interventions. With the support of generous donors, the initiative aims to raise QR40 million to fund urgent humanitarian medical programmes in several countries, in addition to Qatar.
The live event will air from 9:00 pm to midnight on the Al Ghafri YouTube channel (QQQ) and Qatar Charity’s YouTube channel. Social media influencer Abdullah Al Ghafri and broadcaster Dr. Abdulrahman Al Harami will lead the broadcast, encouraging community engagement and mobilising contributions throughout the challenge.
They will be joined by several influencers, medical professionals, supporting medical centres, and partner platforms, with Mirsal Qatar serving as the media partner to amplify the humanitarian message and help ensure that the patients’ appeal reaches the widest possible audience.
The ‘27th Night Challenge’ is held during the last ten days of Ramadan, drawing on the special significance of the 27th night—when Muslims hope for mercy and forgiveness. Qatar Charity seeks to turn this blessed night into a humanitarian platform for meaningful giving, uniting benefactors around a life-saving effort focused on helping patients, most of them children, receive urgent surgeries that cannot be delayed.
This year, Qatar Charity is placing a special emphasis on the health sector in response to the rising number of critical cases requiring urgent treatment in countries with high need, especially in the areas of cardiac surgery and specialised treatments for children. Children are among the most vulnerable groups, and delays in treatment often lead to life threatening complications or the loss of early recovery opportunities.

The truth about ‘Sharia Patrols’ on the streets of Manchester
John Scheerhout
15 Mar 2026
If you were on social media last week, you could have been forgiven for thinking all hell had broken lose as police lost control of 'lawless' Manchester city centre.
The cause? Two horsemen trotting around town, seemingly part of protest in support of the Islamic regime in Iran which is coming under fire from the US and Israel.
It's true that concern was expressed - especially by people at a counter-demo - that the horses were an intimidating presence and were being ridden towards them. And it's also true that police ordered the riders away, not because of any crime but on safety grounds because the animals could be spooked and bolt.
But what, for GMP, was a fairly routine demo involving 800 people was amplified beyond all recognition on social media, thanks to a combination of YouTubers, or self-styled 'auditors', publishing video of skirmishes - particularly of those horses - which was then ramped up by commentators online, even in the US.

New mosque opens after 20 years of planning
15-03-2026
The new building in Fenham, Newcastle, has been funded by members of Newcastle Central Mosque and was constructed in phases, with planning for it starting in 2003.
A large room with a carpet has a number of Muslim women sitting and praying together. A group of three are standing in the forefront of the picture
While it was being built, the community used a small hall adjacent, but it was not big enough to hold all those who wished to pray there, particularly during the month of Ramadan.

The London food bank serving 60,000 free meals the 'quality of £20 in restaurants' during Ramadan
Aakifah Gani
15 Mar 2026
Ramadan is a testing time for Muslims abstaining from food and drink from dawn to sunset during the holy month and provides an added stress for families struggling financially. A food bank in North West London is stepping in to help those in need during Ramadan by converting its nightly community kitchen serving three-course meals for free into an Iftar service for people of all faiths invited.
Sufra Food Bank, on Pitfield Way in Brent, is aiming to serve 60,000 meals before Eid ul-Fitr. Fahim Dahya, the manager at Sufra, told MyLondon: "Brent is one of the most multicultural diverse communities in the country, but you still do have segregation, cultural stereotypes, and racism.
"We bring communities together, our neighbours are from different backgrounds. You have language barriers, you have people not able to communicate with neighbours, we are in a society where we don’t check in on our neighbours."

Defend Islam, but not by insulting others
Mahathir Mohd Rais
Mar 15, 2026
Malaysia has long been admired as a country where people of different races, religions and cultures live side by side in relative peace.
This harmony did not happen by accident. It was built slowly through mutual restraint, quiet tolerance and a shared understanding that stability matters more than winning arguments.
Islam itself provides a clear foundation for such coexistence. The Quran reminds humanity that we were created as different nations and tribes so that we may know one another, not despise one another.
