‘Love Jihad’ Threat To Nation’s Integrity, Says a Haryana Court

Jul 20, 2025

A Yamunanagar court has sentenced a man to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting and intimidating a minor Hindu girl to coerce her into a relationship with a Muslim juvenile, terming the case one of “love jihad”. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the convict and said such acts were “a potential threat” to the nation’s sovereignty and integrity.

While acknowledging that ‘love jihad’ is not a legal term under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita or the Pocso Act, the court described it as a “purported campaign by Muslim men to convert non-Muslim women to Islam by pretending to be in love.”

In Nov last year, a 14-yearold girl filed a complaint at City Yamunanagar police station, naming Shahbaj and a juvenile. She alleged the boy had stalked her on her way to school while Shahbaj pressured her to befriend him.

The FIR invoked sections 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of BNS, and sections 17 (abetment), 8 (sexual assault) and 12 (sexual harassment of a child) under Pocso. The defence counsel, SS Nehra, argued that the accused was falsely implicated.

However, additional sessions judge Ranjana Aggarwal, in her July 17 order, said Shahbaj systematically tried to force an interfaith relationship through “allurement and inducement.” The court awarded him four years under Pocso Section 8, two years under Section 12, and one year under BNS Section 351(2), with fines totalling Rs 1 lakh. All sentences will run consecutively

Bangladesh Might Witness More Violence: TopJamaat-e-Islami Islamist Leader At Mega Dhaka Rally

Jul 20, 2025

Thousands of supporters of Bangladesh's largest Islamist party Jamaat-e-Islami attend a rally in a show of strength ahead of elections expected next year, in Dhaka (Image: AP)

-------------

Bangladesh’s Jamaat-e-Islami on Saturday held its first-ever solo grand rally in Dhaka, drawing tens of thousands of supporters from across the country amid a changed political landscape following the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government last year.

The rally was chaired by the party's Ameer or chief, Shafiqur Rahman, who said that last year’s movement, in which the party played a "crucial role", was aimed at eliminating “fascism”.

At the rally in Dhaka’s SuhrawardyUdyan, Rahman warned party supporters that Bangladesh might witness further violent struggle to keep it on the right track, and said, “May Allah accept me as a martyr in the struggle that lies ahead to build a just country".

In an oblique reference to the ousted regime, the party supremo said, “From 28 October 2006, onward, all those responsible for various politically motivated 'massacres', including that of deaths of army officers in the then-paramilitary BDR border guard force and the events of July 2024, must be tried on the soil of Bangladesh."

Hasina’s government had slapped a total ban on the Islamist party days ahead of her ouster on August 5, 2024, in a violent mass movement which was led by a student group and supported by several parties including the Jamaat-e-Islami. The interim government led by Professor Muhammad Yunus later lifted the ban.

If voted to power, no lawmaker or minister associated with the party would accept government plots and tax-exempt vehicles or personally handle public funds, he added.

One of the major agendas of the party is to wage a campaign to introduce a proportional representation (PR) system in the national election.

Senior party leader Nayeb-e-Ameer Abdullah Mohammad Taher told the rally that elections under the PR system were the most appropriate method in the current political context.

Jamaat-e-Islami has distanced itself from its once crucial ally, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) led by former prime minister Khaleda Zia, which is opposed to the PR system.

No BNP leader was seen in the rally, even though they shared power during the 2001-2006 period when the BNP led a four-party alliance government.

Media reports quoting Jamaat leaders said this first solo rally was staged after nearly a month of preparations and drew over half a million attendees. The party has previously participated in joint rallies at SuhrawardyUdyan alongside the BNP.

According to political historians and analysts, the party, which was opposed to Bangladesh’s 1971 independence from Pakistan, last tried to stage a grand rally in Paltan Maidan in the then East Pakistan ahead of the 1970 elections.

“From then on or since Bangladesh’s 1971 independence, Jamaat, even after the withdrawal of its ban in 1976 (imposed after the 1971 victory), could not stage a grand rally in the capital though it held numerous quickly arranged unscheduled smaller roadside public meetings,” political writer Shamsuddin Ahmed Peara said.

'Why 'Hamas-run hospital' but never ‘US-backed IDF’?': Zohran Mamdani calls out double standards on Israel-Gaza coverage; slams BBC

Jul 20, 2025

Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani criticized public broadcaster BBC for biased reporting on the ongoing Middle East conflict.

He condemned the use of selective language in its coverage of the Israel-Gaza war, questioning why the outlet uses terms like “Iran-backed Houthis” or “Hamas-run hospital,” but avoids labels such as “US-backed IDF” or referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as an “indicted war criminal.”

Mamdani questioned the broadcaster's choice of language, calling out its failure to apply similar labels to Israeli leaders and military forces as it does to other groups in the region.

“Why does the BBC always include context like ‘Iran-backed Houthis’ and ‘Hamas-run hospital’ but never ‘US-backed IDF’ or ‘indicted-war-criminal Benjamin Netanyahu’?” Mamdani questioned in a post on X.

Mamdani, a New York Assembly member and a vocal advocate for Palestinian rights, has long drawn attention for his positions on Israel and Palestine. A supporter of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, he has referred to Israel's military operations in Gaza as “genocide” and has introduced proposals to cut ties with firms operating in Israeli settlements in the West Bank.

In a past interview on Fox5’s “Good Day New York,” Mamdani courted controversy when he said he did not support Israel’s existence as a Jewish state, arguing that no state should have a religious hierarchy.

“Because I’m not comfortable supporting any state that has a hierarchy of citizenship on the basis of religion or anything else,” Mamdani said. "In the way we have in this country, equality should be enshrined in every country in the world.”

Mamdani’s remarks and political stance have not gone unnoticed. US President Donald Trump has frequently targeted him, most recently after Mamdani won the Democratic primary in New York City.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump called Mamdani a “100% Communist Lunatic” and mocked him for looking "terrible." He further claimed that he would be bad for New York City.

Speaking on a Fox News interview, Trump said Mamdani is a communist and he openly admits it. "He's a communist and I think it's very bad for New York. I don't know if he's going to get in but he's a pure communist and I think he admits it," he said.

Mamdani’s viral post criticizing the BBC has sparked online debate, with some social media users defending his stance and others accusing him of selective outrage.

One netizen questioned, "Why does Zohran Mamdani never address the Russian genocide in Ukraine and war criminal Putin?" Another user agreeing with Mamdani wrote,"You are asking hard questions."

German chancellor rules out recognition of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan

By Ariana News

July 19, 2025

A diplomatic recognition of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) as government is out of the question, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on Friday.

For the first time since coming to power on May 6 this year, the German government led by Merz deported to Afghanistan a large group of migrants previously registered as dangerous criminals.

At a grand news conference in Berlin, Chancellor Merz dismissed suggestions that the German authorities were preparing to officially recognize the IEA.

However, the German chancellor added that there were only so-called “technical contacts” with Qatar underway regarding the preparations for deportations.

Merz also said that negotiations regarding the recent deportation flight’s organization had been held for many weeks by several departments on behalf of his country’s government.

Germany, according to Merz, does not recognize the de facto government of Afghanistan but has never severed diplomatic ties with that country. He pointed out that since diplomatic relations are still in force between the countries, but not between their governments, it was possible to organize negotiations and the main focus so far would remain at the technical level.

Overseas Syrians protest in London and Paris against killings of Druze in Sweida

-----------

LONDON — Dozens of Syrians from minority communities rallied on Saturday in London and Paris, calling for action to protect the Druze in their Sweida heartland, where sectarian violence has killed hundreds.

In central London, around 80 protesters chanted “God protect Druze” and “Stop supporting Jolani,” referring to Syrian interim leader Ahmed al-Sharaa’s nom de guerre, which he had abandoned after his Islamist group seized Damascus late last year.

Demonstrators in the British capital held up placards calling for an end to the deadly violence in Sweida and for a humanitarian corridor to be opened up via the Jordanian border.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said at least 940 people had been killed in the Druze-majority province since Sunday, including 326 Druze fighters and 262 Druze civilians, 165 of whom were summarily executed.

The sectarian clashes between the Druze and Bedouin tribes, who are Sunni Muslim, have drawn in the Islamist-led government as well as Israel and armed tribes from other parts of Syria.

“Shootings, beheadings, raping, killing children, [torching] shops, homes. It’s a barbarian movement going on in Sweida,” he said at the protest outside BBC headquarters.

AFP correspondents in Sweida reported clashes on Saturday, despite a ceasefire ordered by the government following a US-brokered deal to avert further Israeli military intervention.

The Observatory, a Britain-based war monitor, said armed volunteers had been deployed with the support of the Islamist-led government.

Protester MaanRadwan, who has family in Sweida, fought back tears as he said some of his relatives had died in a massacre at their guesthouse.

At the Paris protest, Aida Haladi wore black and clutched a picture of her 52-year-old brother, whom she said was killed in front of his home Thursday morning in Sweida city.

“Where is France?” Haladi said, accusing Syria’s interim president of complicity and angry at France’s leader, Emmanuel Macron, for having hosted him in Paris in May.

Eva Radwan, a 41-year-old PhD student, held up a picture of her 34-year-old cousin and his two nephews, aged 13 and 16, who she said had been shot dead inside their home.

“Jolani, get out, Syria is not yours,” she shouted into a megaphone in front of the Eiffel Tower, leading around 20 other protesters.

Communal Tensions Flare Among Hindu and Muslim Transgender In Indore Over HIV Allegations

July 19, 2025

Tensions have escalated between two groups of Hindu and Muslim transgenders in Indore, with the Hindu group levelling serious allegations of a so-called “transgender HIV jihad” against the Muslim group. They have accused them of deliberately infecting more than 60 Hindu transgenders with HIV by injecting them with contaminated needles.

Members of the Hindu transgender group claim they have submitted complaint letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice of India Justice BR Gavai, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, Indore Collector Ashish Singh, and Indore Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh.

Following the complaint, Commissioner Singh has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. The SIT comprises Indore Zone-4 Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rishikesh Meena, Additional DCP Dishesh Agarwal, Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Aditya Patale, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Hemant Chauhan. The officials have initiated an investigation.

The leader of the Hindu group, Sapna Guru, alleged that some Muslim transgenders — including Naeem Ansari alias Payal and Farzana alias Seema Haji from Malegaon in Maharashtra — moved to Indore a few years ago. According to Sapna, these individuals have coerced several Hindu transgenders into converting to Islam.

Jul 20, 2025

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh police's investigation into the disappearance of two sisters, aged 33 and 18, in Agra has uncovered an inter-state ‘love jihad' network engaged in illegal religious conversions and radicalisation, supported by a nexus of banned outfits PFI and SDPI, Pakistan-based handlers, and foreign funding.

The breakthrough led to a coordinated crackdown and the arrest of 10 operatives across six states, including fresh arrests on Saturday, police said.

Their arrest led to the unravelling of the wider network and the subsequent arrest of SB Krishna from Goa, Rehman Qureshi from Agra, Mohammed Ali, Junaid Qureshi, and Ali from Jaipur, Abu Talib from Muzaffarnagar, Manoj from Delhi, and Abur Rehman from Dehradun.

UP DGP Rajeev Krishna told reporters in Lucknow that the network operated using "love jihad" tactics, online radicalisation, and foreign funding from Canada, the USA, Dubai, and London.

Islamists in Dhaka flex muscles; Jamaat submits seven point election demand to govt

20.07.25

Hundreds of thousands of supporters of Bangladesh’s largest Islamist party, the Jamaat-e-Islami, rallied in the capital on Saturday to show their strength ahead of elections expected next year, as the South Asian nation stands at a crossroads after the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

An interim government headed by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Muhammad Yunus said the next election would be held in April but his administration did not rule out a possibility of polls in February.

While Hasina was in power from 2009 until she was toppled in student-led protests last year and fled to India, top leaders of the Jamaat-e-Islami were either executed or jailed on charges of crimes against humanity and other serious crimes in 1971.

Afghan Returnees from Iran are Welcomed by Heat, Hunger, and Uncertainty at Islam Qala Border

by Ria Mohammad Rehaa

20-07-2025

Under the burning sun, families use whatever they can find to shield their children. A mother wets a scarf to keep it cool. A boy knots a strip of cloth to cast a narrow shadow over his family. A sister stretches a handkerchief over her sleeping brother, tying its ends to their luggage to protect him from the sun.

Ahead of a deadline of 6 July, imposed by the Iranian authorities, thousands of Afghans have returned to their homeland from Iran in recent days, arriving exhausted, confused and uncertain about the future. Lacking proper shelter, medical care, or the means to connect with families, anxiety abounds. Some are being detained and deported without even the chance to inform their loved ones.

“I didn’t know how to contact my family, or how to find them,” says Sharifa, a 41-year-old mother who crossed with her 13-year-old daughter after being separated from her husband and sons. “In Iran, my daughter was denied school this year because of our refugee status, and that broke our hearts. But crossing the border brought even more fear—we were lost and alone.”

CAIR-Pittsburgh Condemns Anti-Catholic, Antisemitic Vandalism Targeting Church, Welcomes FBI Probe

July 19, 2025

(PITTSBURGH, PA, 7/19/25) – The Pittsburgh chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Pittsburgh), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the recent vandalism of Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish’s Saint Elisabeth of Hungary Church in Baldwin, which included hateful anti-Catholic and antisemitic graffiti.

The graffiti was discovered on Friday and reportedly occurred between July 8 and 9. The defaced areas included a statue of the Virgin Mary, a plaque on the bell tower, and the door of a former convent on the property. The FBI has opened an investigation into the incident as a possible hate crime.

“We are deeply disturbed by this cowardly and hateful act targeting a sacred space in our region. No faith community should ever have to face this kind of hatred. We stand in full solidarity with our Catholic and Jewish neighbors and welcome the FBI’s investigation into this incident. Hate has no place in Pittsburgh—or anywhere.”

Mohamed urged community leaders of all faiths to utilize the guidance provided in CAIR’s “Best Practices for Mosque and Community Safety” booklet to help keep religious facilities secure. The advice in the booklet is applicable to houses of worship of all faiths.

She added that CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.

U.S. revokes visa of Brazilian judge overseeing Bolsonaro case

July 19, 2025

By Allen Cone

July 19 (UPI) -- The U.S. visa of the Brazilian judge overseeing the criminal case against former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was revoked Friday, four days after President Donald Trump called the South American nation's treatment of the former leader a "witch hunt."

"President Trump made clear that his administration will hold accountable foreign nationals who are responsible for censorship of protected expression in the United States," Rubio said in a statement. "Brazilian Supreme Federal Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes's political witch hunt against Jair Bolsonaro created a persecution and censorship complex so sweeping that it not only violates basic rights of Brazilians, but also extends beyond Brazil's shores to target Americans.

"I have therefore ordered visa revocations for Moraes and his allies on the court, as well as their immediate family members effective immediately."

The visa restriction policy is pursuant to the Immigration and Nationality Act, which authorizes the secretary of state to not allow anyone whose entry into the United States "would have potentially serious adverse foreign policy consequences."

Europe

Europe’s Deafening Silence On Islamophobia

By Haris Gul

July 20, 2025

In a quiet corner of Hannover, Germany, a 26-year-old Algerian woman was brutally stabbed to death. Her only apparent crime: being Muslim, visibly so, and repeatedly vocal about the racist harassment she endured at the hands of her neighbor. Her murder did not come out of nowhere. It came after her cries for help went unheeded—by law enforcement, by local officials, and ultimately, by a continent increasingly numb to its own Islamophobia.

This was not an isolated act of violence. It was part of a deeply disturbing pattern that spans across Europe—from mosque arsons in Spain to hate-fueled assaults in the United Kingdom and France’s relentless legal policing of Muslim women’s attire. Behind each incident lies the same ugly truth: anti-Muslim hatred is not only growing, it is metastasizing in the silence of those who claim to uphold human rights and democratic values.

On July 12, a mosque in Piera, Spain was deliberately set ablaze. The arson attack was condemned by local leaders but barely registered on the international stage. It came and went in the news cycle like a weather update—filed, forgotten, and buried beneath louder headlines. No global statements of solidarity, no mass vigils, no pledges of justice from European capitals. The message was clear: some victims of hate matter more than others.

Across the Channel in the UK, hate crimes against Muslims spike predictably every time politicians stir public debate about immigration or invoke the nebulous phrase “British values.” Veiled women, bearded men, and mosques have become lightning rods in a climate where cultural difference is increasingly treated as deviance. According to reports, verbal abuse, physical attacks, and mosque vandalism have become alarmingly routine, with little more than platitudes offered in response.

In France, the state itself appears complicit in normalizing Islamophobia. From banning the hijab in schools to outlawing abayas in universities, the French government has institutionalized a form of cultural gatekeeping that stigmatizes Muslim identity under the guise of secularism. These laws don’t protect the republic—they erode it by turning diversity into a threat and pitting citizenship against faith.

Azerbaijan restores historic Giyasly Mosque, preserving its originality

19 July 2025

The historic Giyasly Mosque in the village of Giyasly, Aghdam district, has been meticulously restored while maintaining its original architectural style, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation announced.

According to Elvin Aslanov, a representative of the Foundation, archival materials were used during the restoration process, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

It was emphasised that the Giyasly Mosque was one of the historical and religious monuments of Karabakh subjected to Armenian vandalism. During the occupation of the Aghdam district by Armenian armed forces, the mosque building suffered severe damage—its roof and domes were completely destroyed, and it was used as a cattle barn.

After the liberation of the Aghdam district from Armenian occupation in 2022, restoration of the Giyasly Mosque began. The restoration work was carried out by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. To preserve the mosque’s original appearance, archival materials and video sources were used in the restoration project.

Ukraine Offers Russia New Round Of Peace Talks Next Week

July 20, 2025

Kyiv has sent Moscow an offer to hold a new round of peace talks next week, Ukrainian President VolodymyrZelenskyy said, after negotiations between the countries last month made no progress toward ending the ongoing war.

Zelenskyy also reiterated his readiness to have a face-to-face sit-down with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, saying: "A meeting at the leadership level is needed to truly ensure peace -- lasting peace."

Two rounds of direct peace talks between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul in May and early June secured large-scale prisoner swaps and deals to return the bodies of slain soldiers.

But they made no breakthrough in achieving a cease-fire to potentially end the military conflict that began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of its neighbor in February 2022.

Zelenskyy said, RustemUmerov, the newly appointed head of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, had sent Moscow the offer to hold the meeting next week, but did not provide further details.

July 19, 2025

Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine overnight into Saturday with hundreds of drones, killing at least one person, part of a stepped-up bombing campaign that has dashed hopes for a breakthrough in efforts to end the more than 3-year-old war.

One person died in the Black Sea port city of Odesa, which was hit with more than 20 drones and a missile, Mayor HennadiiTrukhanov wrote on Telegram, while five people were rescued when a fire broke out in a residential high-rise building.

According to Zelenskyy, six other people were wounded in the attack on Odesa, including a child, and critical infrastructure was damaged in Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy region.

PMOI Resistance Units in Zahedan the torch of Mossadegh and freedom in Iran

By Matin Karim

July 19, 2025

On the anniversary of the historic July 21, 1952, national uprising, PMOI Resistance Units in Zahedan have sent a powerful message of defiance against the ruling clerical dictatorship. This date commemorates a landmark event where the Iranian people took to the streets in massive numbers to successfully force the Shah to reinstate the popular and democratically-oriented Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh, marking a major victory for popular sovereignty against monarchic rule.

By staging public activities and displaying banners that link this legacy to the current struggle, the Resistance Units have reaffirmed the Iranian people’s four-decade-long quest to establish a democratic republic. These actions are not merely a commemoration of history, but a clear declaration that the fight for freedom and independence in Iran is a continuous, organized struggle that will not be deterred.

A central theme of the Resistance Units’ activities was the emphatic rejection of all forms of tyranny, whether from the deposed monarchy or the current religious regime. The banners drew a direct line from Mossadegh’s struggle against colonialism and the shah’s autocracy to the modern fight against the mullahs.

Slogans made it clear that the Iranian people seek a future free from any form of oppression. “Today, the legacy of Mossadegh is ‘no to shah, no to mullahs,’ which represents the rejection of tyranny and dependence (on foreign states),” one banner read. Another popular slogan echoed this sentiment across the country: “From Zahedan to Tehran, down with the oppressor, be it the shah or the mullahs.” This message underscores that the goal is not to replace one dictator with another, but to establish genuine popular sovereignty.

The Martyred Physicist Who Began His Classes with Hafez’s Poetry

July 19, 2025

TEHRAN- Dr. Mansour Askari, a devoted scientist whose every lecture began with the lyrical wisdom of Hafez and whose prayer came before any worldly duty, lived a life defined by knowledge, faith, and sacrifice. He was a paragon of sincerity and intellect—a martyr who gave his life for the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Born on June 3, 1958 in Tehran, Askari completed his education in mathematics and physics at the prestigious Alborz High School. Gifted with an extraordinary IQ, he stood out from childhood. He pursued higher education in nuclear physics at Shiraz University, graduating with top honors alongside fellow martyr Dr. Masoud Alimohammadi.

Following the victory of the Islamic Revolution and during the Cultural Revolution that closed Iran’s universities, Askari took on national service as head of a seven-member committee in Kamirooz, Shiraz. He later joined the frontlines during the eight-year Iran-Iraq War, earning distinction as one of its pioneering defenders.

After the war, despite offers from major institutions like Shiraz and Tehran University, Askari chose to join the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in 1984, driven by unwavering loyalty. He earned his PhD from Amirkabir University in nuclear engineering, focusing on radiation shielding for gamma rays in medical applications—a project he advanced to industrial production.

As a founding faculty member of Imam Hossein University, alongside martyrs Fereydoon Abbasi and Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, Askari established the physics department and taught advanced courses including quantum mechanics, analytical mechanics, and electromagnetic theory. He also led the university’s Center for Philosophy of Natural Sciences.

Gaza civil defence says Israeli fire kills 39 near two aid centres

July 20, 2025

Gaza’s civil defence agency said on Saturday (July 19, 2025) that Israeli fire killed 39 people and wounded more than 100 near two aid centres, in the latest deaths of Palestinians seeking food.

Deaths of people waiting for handouts in huge crowds near food points in Gaza have become a regular occurrence, with the territory’s authorities frequently blaming Israeli fire.

But the U.S.- and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which has replaced UN agencies as the main distributor of aid in the territory, has accused militant group Hamas of fomenting unrest and shooting at civilians.

Civil defence agency spokesman Mahmud Bassal said the deaths happened near a site southwest of Khan Yunis and another centre northwest of Rafah, both in southern Gaza, attributing the fatalities to “Israeli gunfire”.

One witness said he headed to the Al-Tina area of Khan Yunis before dawn with five of his relatives to try to get food when “Israeli soldiers” started shooting.

Boko Haram conflict: Nigeria’s army is failing the widows of dead soldiers

July 20, 2025

Nigerian soldiers’ widows have been reported as lacking support from the army, and even experiencing sexual harassment while claiming their late husbands’ benefits.

The research focused on Nigerian widows who lost their husbands in the Boko Haram conflict, and the extent to which the Nigerian Army fulfilled its responsibilities towards them.

This neglect is demonstrated through the dysfunctional military bureaucracy and the unprofessional conduct of officers dealing with welfare benefits.

The conflict with terrorist groups has resulted in thousands of deaths and permanent injuries to soldiers. More than 36,000 people have been killed since 2009 when the conflict began while 2.2 million have been displaced. It has also left widows and orphans.

The research was conducted through in-depth interviews, including conversations with Nigerian Army officials and 29 widows of commissioned and non-commissioned officers between December 2020 and March 2021.

The key findings highlighted the limited military support in accessing benefits and a broader lack of societal support for the women and their association, the Military Widows Association.

It also draws attention to the complexities of combat-related death, perceptions of military service, and the socio-economic vulnerability associated with widowhood in Nigeria.

Dogara Blasted For Accepting Appointment From ‘Muslim-Muslim Government’

Oscar Okhifo

July 19, 2025

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, YakubuDogara, has come under intense criticism following his recent appointment as Chairman of the National Credit Guarantee Company (NCGC) by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which operates under the controversial Muslim-Muslim ticket he once publicly opposed.

A former close associate of former Speaker of Federal House of Representatives Rt. Hon. YakubuDogara, Barrister MaigidaYakubu has launched a scathing attack in an 11-page open letter dated Friday, accusing the ex-lawmaker of hypocrisy, betrayal, and political opportunism.

The letter, widely circulated online, challenges Dogara’s moral credibility and questions his integrity in accepting a top appointment from a Government he previously condemned on religious grounds.

Maigida recalled Dogara’s vocal opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket during the 2023 general elections, a stance that earned him admiration from many within the Christian community.

However, the former aide alleged that shortly after the elections, Dogara began lobbying for a federal appointment, even going as far as renting crowds to stage public demonstrations in support of his candidacy for political office.

IMAN Kicks Against Strike In Health Sector – National President

by Francis Onoiribholo

July 19, 2025

The Islamic Medical Association Of Nigerian (IMAN) has declared that the association abhors strike in the nation health sector, saying that it is not part of Islamic doctrine.

Prof. Ibrahim Oreagba, the National President IMAN stated this at the National Executive Council Meeting of the association held at Auchi, Edo, on Saturday.

Oreagba said that the policy of IMAN does not support strike in the health sector, adding that during strike the Muslims health workers stayed back to render health service to patients.

He pointed out that thousands of patients died during health strike, adding that as Muslims medical practitioners, it beholds on members to save lives rather than allowing patients to die during strike.

“Thousands of patients died during a medical strike and as such, we must look into the welfare of our patients, if you decide not to work and many patients died and at the end of the day the government now takes care of your needs, who will bring back the lives of the patients?.

Pakistan: Baloch Yakjehti Committee sit-in protest against govt continues in Islamabad

July 20, 2025

In Pakistan, the sit-in protest by Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) against the government has entered its fifth day at the capital city of Islamabad. The protest is led by families of forcibly disappeared persons and detained leaders of BYC from Balochistan. On the fourth day of the protest yesterday, the protesters alleged that the families were barred from reaching the protest site by Pakistani authorities as they sealed off the roads leading to the Islamabad Press Club.

The protesters further alleged that a bus was also brought to the protest site to forcibly deport the families back to Balochistan. The protesters include women, elderly women and children. In a social media post, the Baloch Yakjehti Committee said that the ongoing restriction on the protest and illegal detentions of its leaders, reflects a deliberate and systematic attempt to silence Baloch voices.

Pakistan extends ban on Indian carriers using its airspace for another month

July 20, 2025

Pakistan has extended its airspace closure for India-operated aircraft for another month, a notification issued by the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) said on July 19. The latest extension, formalised through a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), came into effect at 3.50 pm IST.

Under the directive, aircraft operated by Indian airlines, including civilian and military are prohibited from entering Pakistani airspace until 5.19 am IST of August 24. The move is part of an ongoing airspace standoff between the two South Asian neighbours, rooted in escalating tensions following a deadly militant attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22, which left 27 people dead.

Soon after the deadly attack by Pakistan-based terrorist, India swiftly responded by closing its airspace to all Pakistani aircraft and destroyed terror camps in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK). That ban currently remains in place and is set to expire on July 24, unless extended further.

Pakistan imposed its own airspace ban on April 24, just two days after the attack, targeting Indian aircraft in a retaliatory measure. Since then, both countries have periodically renewed their respective bans, which has led to increased operational challenges for airlines, raising concerns over regional stability.

PM Anwar urges Muslims to safeguard Islamic scholarship legacy

2025-07-20

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged Muslims to uphold the legacy of Islamic scholarship and strengthen ties between religious scholars (ulama) and leaders (umara) to navigate modern challenges, including artificial intelligence (AI) and digitalisation.

He stressed that technological progress must be grounded in ethics, values, and religious understanding, which have long been the foundation of Muslim strength. “If we do not move in tandem and lack strong enlightenment, there is no guarantee of security,“ he said during the ‘Malaysia Bermunajat 2025’ programme at the Putra Mosque, yesterday.

Anwar highlighted Malaysia’s leadership in AI development but warned against adopting Western systems without ethical foundations. “Without values, we become mere consumers,“ he added. The event, themed ‘Uniting the Ummah Through Supplication and Knowledge,‘ aimed to promote supplication (munajat) and knowledge as pillars of unity under Malaysia MADANI.

The Prime Minister also praised pondok institutions for preserving Islamic faith and culture during colonialism. “Had there been no pondok schools, we might have lost our religious identity,“ he said. He encouraged pondok students to embrace modern education, including TVET and AI, while staying rooted in Islamic teachings.

Anwar called for a revival of Islamic knowledge in Quranic studies, hadith, fiqh, and governance to maintain historical and cultural identity. He noted Malaysia’s role in uniting global ulama to guide the ummah with wisdom and respect.

The event featured Pakistani scholar Maulana Tariq Jamil, who emphasised spiritual connection and community responsibility.
