Lashkar-e-Taiba  Chief Hafiz Saeed Opens New Front Against India, Sends Close Aide To Bangladesh

-------------

Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Hafiz Saeed is planning to open a new front of terror against India through Bangladesh and has sent one of his close associates to the country, according to a top Lashkar commander who disclosed the development during a recent public rally.

According to sources, Hafiz Saeed has dispatched one of his associates to Bangladesh, where he is reportedly inciting local youth in the name of jihad and providing them with terror training.

Addressing a rally in Pakistan’s Khairpur Tamewali on October 30, Lashkar commander Saifullah Saif openly called for jihad against India, declaring, “Our people are active in East Pakistan (Bangladesh) and are ready to respond to India”.

“Allama Ibtisam Elahi Zaheer went to Bangladesh. He spoke of Kashmir, that Bengal (Bangladesh), which was snatched from us, which Indira Gandhi had said that ‘we have drowned the two-nation theory in the Bay of Bengal’. Today, by the grace of Allah, that son of a lion, that orator, Allama Ibtisam Elahi Zaheer, is roaring like his father, like a lion, inside Bangladesh," he said.

The Lashkar commander added, “He is talking about Kashmir and Palestine. India is worried and distressed by this. They say, ‘Hafiz Saeed’s right-hand man has gone to Bangladesh. Now, from Bangladesh, they will come into India.’”

In a video of the speech obtained by India Today, the terror leader is seen urging people to wage war against India, with visuals showing even children among the audience.

Saif also made an apparent reference to Operation Sindoor -- India’s counter-terror action following the Pahalgam terror attack -- claiming it as a victory for the Pakistan Army.

“If you have learnt the lesson of jihad, when you entered the field on the night of May 10, Allah made you a superpower in the world. India was attacking you, America was with them, all this was happening. Today, they have all sat down. Allah has established you in the world,” he said.

Hafiz Saeed and his Lashkar-e-Taiba are considered the masterminds of several major terror attacks in India, including the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks and the 2001 Parliament attack.

Saeed, who is currently serving a 78-year prison term in Pakistan, allegedly continues to operate from behind bars and enjoys the patronage of Pakistan’s political and military establishment, despite being an internationally designated terrorist.

New Delhi has consistently demanded Saeed’s extradition, along with that of other key terror figures, to face trial in India.

"Anti-Mamdani Plan": Trump Plans To Remove Zohran Mamdani As New York Mayor

Prashant Tamta

Nov 08, 2025

The rivalry between US President Donald Trump and Zohran Mamdani has reached the next level. Trump has now begun plotting a new strategy against Mamdani. Trump has entrusted a new 'operation' to his most trusted aide, whose goal is to remove Mamdani from the mayoral position by the end of the first year. Today, we will decode this new plan of Trump.

Just hours after becoming mayor of New York, Mamdani arrived in Puerto Rico. He visited a mosque in San Juan. He offered Friday prayers there, met with the local clerics and Maulanas. Afterwards, he distributed zakat. While in the mosque, he gave a speech in which Palestine was mentioned. People stood holding Palestinian flags. Excited clerics declared Mamdani 'the mayor of the world'. Loud religious slogans were raised. The way Mamdani prostrated himself at the mosque immediately after becoming mayor of New York is provoking his ideological allies.

While Mamdani was at the mosque, Trump executed his "anti-Mamdani plan." This new plan aims to remove Mamdani from the mayoralty before November 8, 2026. Part of Trump's strategy is Elise Stefanik, a close confidante of Trump, a Republican congresswoman, and a vocal critic of Mamdani. Elise Stefanik has suddenly announced her candidacy for governor of New York.

There is talk that if Elise Stefanik wins the 2026 gubernatorial election, she will carry out Trump's plan. She will remove Mamdani from the mayor's position. To do this, she will use a special power granted by the Constitution. Under the New York State Constitution, the governor has the authority to remove the mayor and other local officials from their positions. More than 90 years have passed, but such an opportunity has not arisen in New York. But the other truth is that no one has become a president like Trump before.

In the last 9 months, the world has seen how stubborn Trump is. He tried countless times to defeat Mamdani. It has been claimed in the Forbes report that America's rich people had opened their coffers to campaign for Mamdani's rival candidates. 26 American billionaires had put in efforts to defeat Mamdani. Together, they had spent around Rs 180 crore. Now, Trump has played his trump card. The danger for Mamdani is even greater because a Manhattan Institute survey shows that Elise Stefanik has an early lead. 43 percent of people support her, while 42 per cent favour Kathy Hochul. There's still a year left. People's moods will fluctuate. But the way Trump has taken the animosity to the next level clearly indicates that Mamdani's troubles could worsen.

GMB Star Adil Ray Hauled In By Bosses After Appearing To Back Sharia Law After Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s Win

Shaun Wilson

09-11-2025

GMB host Adil Ray has allegedly been confronted by managers after he referred to Sharia Law in a social media post about New York's new Muslim mayor Zohran Mamdani.

The broadcaster 51, is understood to have attended the meeting yesterday, just one day after he posted his message about Mamdani’s election win.

Mr Mamdani, 34, defeated former governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa to become the city’s first Muslim mayor and the first of South Asian heritage.

Mr Ray wrote on X: "Some say Mamdani may implement Sharia Law. He might. The heart of Sharia is social justice, welfare, fairness, charity and cohesion. Most Muslim countries operate a hybrid of Sharia & civil law, are slowly reforming and abandoning unethical practices despite the west’s portrayal."

Comments were subsequently removed from Mr Ray's post, but earlier reactions included, "Take your Sharia law and f*** off”, while another said, “This will be your undoing,” The Sun reports.

He added: "To clarify. I am not actually suggesting Mamdani would implement “sharia law”. But many of the issues he campaigned for are also some of the positive values of Sharia that Muslims try to live by. Something many of us would agree on."

Mayor of London Sir Sadiq Khan was among the first to congratulate Democrat Zohran Mamdani upon his election as New York’s new mayor, saying the city had followed London in "choosing hope over fear".

Sir Sadiq congratulated Mr Mamdani, who will become New York’s youngest mayor in more than a century when he takes office on January 1, on what he called a “historic campaign”.

US President Donald Trump threw his weight behind Mr Cuomo, a former Democrat running as an independent, and threatened to cut federal funding to New York if Mr Mamdani triumphed.

Saudi novelist charts new territory in Arabic literature

Tareq Al-Thaqafi

November 08, 2025

For Fatimah Al-Amro, book covers represent far more than decorative packaging. She believes that contemporary literature transcends the printed page to encompass image, drama, and art. (Supplied)

------------

MAKKAH: In a distinctive literary experiment that blurs the lines between visual storytelling and prose, Saudi novelist Fatimah Al-Amro is charting new territory in Arabic literature. Her work merges the cinematic with the written word, creating narratives that pulse with global appeal while remaining rooted in authentic identity.

In an exclusive interview, Al-Amro opened up about her motivations, choices, and ambitious vision for the future — making clear that contemporary literature transcends the printed page to encompass image, drama, and art.

Speaking to Arab News, Al-Amro explained that featuring European model Cheyenne Draghi on the cover of her novel “Aslan’s Sky” was not merely coincidental or an attempt to attract attention, but rather a reflection of the hero’s image she had drawn in her imagination from the beginning.

“Cheyenne was not just a fashion model for the cover, but an artistic partner who helped me shape the hero’s features,” Al-Amro said.

“Through his features, the character of Louis was born and evolved. What surprised me was seeing him described in Arab media as the first European face on an Arabic novel cover — the story even made waves on Italian and Spanish websites. It was genuinely groundbreaking for the Arab literary landscape.”

For Al-Amro, book covers represent far more than decorative packaging. “The cover is the reader’s first encounter with the novel’s universe,” she noted.

“I insist it should be integral to the literary experience itself. That is why I worked with a Spanish designer for my ‘Luis the Spaniard’ series. Today’s covers function as visual art and collectible objects in their own right — not just wrapping paper.”

Her decision to set a narrative in the world of Formula 1 racing stemmed from direct observation. “Formula 1 offered rich dramatic terrain with universal resonance,” Al-Amro explained.

“It is an arena where life-altering decisions happen in split seconds. Since Arabic literature had never explored this territory, I saw an opportunity to approach it through a literary lens combining romance, suspense, and imagination.”

Al-Amro noted that her novelistic style leans toward cinematic construction more than classical, a natural outgrowth of her background in journalism and film.

She confirmed that media companies have expressed interest in adapting her work for the screen — a prospect she welcomes enthusiastically as it breathes fresh life into the narrative.

Her appearance at the Red Sea International Film Festival became an impromptu book launch celebration that drew considerable enthusiasm and support from attendees. A standout moment came when she presented Hollywood actor Andrew Garfield with an Arabic copy of her novel.

“When I mentioned he inspired one of my characters, he applauded me in front of the crowd,” she recalled. “It felt like meaningful recognition that Arabic literature can achieve global reach in its original language.”

Distinguishing between her two works “Luis the Spaniard” and “Aslan’s Sky,” Al-Amro explained that each has its own world. The former delivers high-stakes drama immersed in F1’s world and haunted by past conflicts, while the latter offers romantic comedy rich with human contradictions and witty exchanges.

“I thrive on variety and write whatever captivates my imagination,” she said. “My goal is always to challenge conventional visual and narrative formulas.”

Looking ahead, Al-Amro’s sights are set firmly on Saudi Arabia’s burgeoning film industry. “My aspirations are cinematic,” she declared.

“I am currently developing the screenplay for ‘Aslan’s Sky,’ and I envision transforming ‘Luis the Spaniard’ into a dramatic series that weaves together suspense and imagination. I am convinced that literature and cinema, working in tandem, can deliver fresh Arab experiences with global resonance.”

Through her fusion of text, imagery, and imagination, Al-Amro is staking out pioneering ground in the Arab creative landscape — demonstrating that Arabic literature can achieve international prominence when it dares to break familiar boundaries and traditions.

Death Of Iranian Activist, Omid Sarlak, Who Burned Picture Of Supreme Leader Causes Outcry

Deepa Parent

8 Nov 2025

Omid Sarlak posted a video of himself burning a photo of the Islamic Republic’s leader, Ali Khamenei. Photograph: Instagram

---------

The death of a young Iranian man who had filmed himself burning a photograph of the country’s supreme leader has sparked a war of words between state media and activists over how he died.

Government-sanctioned news websites reported that Omid Sarlak, who was in his 20s, had been found in his car on Saturday in western Iran with a gunshot wound to his head and traces of gunpowder on his hands. Iranian police said Sarlak had “died by suicide”.

But anti-government media and activists say the timing of the death, so soon after he made a public outcry against the government, raises suspicions about whether he was killed for his views.

Hours before Sarlak’s body was found, a video posted on his social media account showed him burning the photo of the Islamic Republic’s leader, Ali Khamenei.

The furore presents a threat to the regime, with Sarlak becoming an icon for activists, many of whom have followed him by burning Khamenei’s photo in solidarity and posting the videos online.

Suspicions have grown after a widely circulated video showed Sarlak’s father reportedly saying at the site of his son’s death: “They killed my champion here.” An off-screen voice in the same clip was heard saying he was “surrounded and shot”.

Later, in a televised interview aired by state media, Sarlak’s father requested people to “not pay attention to what’s circulating on social media and to let the judicial authorities handle the matter”. Activists have called the video forced and said the family was under surveillance.

Hundreds of mourners who attended Sarlak’s funeral on Monday demonstrated and chanted slogans such as “Death to the dictator” and “Death to Khamenei”.

In the clip shared on Instagram by Sarlak hours before his death, a recording is audible in the background of a speech by Iran’s former shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. In 1979, Pahlavi fled Iran, with the Islamic government taking power the same year. Some anti-government activists are nostalgic for the monarchy.

On another one of his last Instagram stories, he wrote: “How long should we endure humiliation, poverty and being ridden over? This is the moment to show yourself, young people. These clerics are nothing but a stream for Iran’s youth to cross.”

Sarlak was a student of aviation and an amateur boxer who was a fan of the Iranian wrestler Ebrahim Eshaghi. Eshaghi told the Guardian Sarlak had contacted him on Instagram shortly before he died. “He sent me a message that his life was in danger and that if anything were to happen to him, we should be his voice.”

Eshaghi, who lives in Germany, said that since his death several of Sarlak’s close friends said they believed he had been killed by the intelligence services.

“He loved life and had an upcoming boxing competition in two weeks. He loved the Pahlavi family and supported them. The regime also imprisons or kills young, athletic people, something it has been doing for years.”

Sarlak’s death has reignited some of the same pain and outrage that emerged after the death of Mahsa Jina Amini, a Kurdish woman who was arrested by the country’s “morality police” and died in custody in 2022, igniting huge, countrywide protests.

Bahar Ghandehari, director of advocacy at the US-based Center for Human Rights in Iran, said it was notable that people inside Iran were burning photos publicly, “despite the fact that insulting or burning the supreme leader’s photo is considered a serious offence, carrying grave risks of arrest, imprisonment, harsh sentences, torture and even death”.

In one video shared with the Guardian on the condition of anonymity, two men burned images of Khamenei, saying: “We burn this photo for justice, for freedom, for hope. I am Omid Sarlak. Death to Khamenei and long live the shah.”

The editor of the Amirkabir Newsletter, an Iranian student movement website, said so far students have not held any protests in universities over Sarlak’s death “because the atmosphere on campuses remains heavily securitised”.

The editor, who has no public profile to protect them and their staff while operating inside Iran, said they believed there would be “serious protests” this year or early next year. “Day by day, people’s anger over the killing of thousands of innocent people is growing, and they are distressed and upset,” they said.

Separately, Reza Pahlavi, the exiled oldest son of the former shah has called Sarlak a hero and a brave soul who stood against the “oppression of the Islamic Republic and sacrificed his life for Iran’s freedom”.

Supreme Court Split On Special Investigation Team With Hindu &Muslim Cops To Probe '23 Akola Communal Riots

Nov 9, 2025

NEW DELHI: After Maharashtra government took exception and sought review of a September 11 order of a two-judge Supreme Court bench to set up an SIT comprising police officers from Hindu and Muslim communities to probe certain crimes during 2023 Akola communal riots, the same judges gave a split verdict - one allowing the review, the other dismissing it.

Solicitor general Tushar Mehta, on behalf of Maharashtra, had pleaded before a bench of Justices Sanjay Kumar and Satish Chandra Sharma that it would set a dangerous precedent as for every riot the police investigation must be done by assigning probes to officers depending on their personal faith when the police force is secular.

The review petition said the direction for setting up of an SIT would be implemented but the state had taken exception to the direction as far as it impinged on the principle of institutional secularism. Justice Sharma said, "In the considered opinion of this court as review and recall has been sought of the judgment to the limited extent that 'it directs or mandates the composition of the SIT on the basis of religious identity' requires consideration and, therefore, let notice be issued to the respondents, returnable within two weeks."

But Justice Sanjay Kumar was furious over the filing of the review petition and condemned the manner in which the state made separate mentioning of the plea before both judges on the bench, without disclosing that the other was also being approached.

‘Pakistan Doesn’t Want Peace’: RSS Chief Says India Must Be Prepared To Give Befitting Reply

By: Rohini Swamy

November 09, 2025

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday said that India always wants peace with Pakistan, but the neighbouring country doesn’t want that.

“We always have peace with Pakistan. It is Pakistan that does not have peace with us…As long as Pakistan gets some satisfaction out of causing harm to Bharat, it will keep doing it… We must give a befitting answer to their repeated tries," he said, while speaking at an event in Bengaluru titled ‘100 years of Sangh journey – New Horizons’.

According to Bhagwat, the way to peace with Pakistan is not to initiate conflict. “The way to peace with Pakistan that not to breach it from our side. If Pakistan breaches it, it will not be successful. The more they try, the more they will cause trouble for themselves."

Bhagwat reminded how Pakistan had invaded in 1971 and “lost a complete army of 90,000". “It will learn a lesson if it continues. Pakistan must understand that it is better to cooperate with Bharat, rather than compete or fight. It is better to go closer or it will be harmed…But they don’t seem to understand this language. So we have to speak the language they understand and that language is ‘we cannot do anything about Bharat’."

Bhagwat also warned India to be prepared against Pakistan. “We must be prepared for their repeated tries and give befitting answers, defeat them always and each time causing them some loss so that they repent. One day Pakistan will understand. We wish they understand this and become our peaceful neighbours and one they can also progress," he said.

Deadline Nears, Over 30k Mosques In Telangana Yet To Be Registered

Nov 9, 2025

Hyderabad: The Telangana Waqf Board is facing a serious challenge as nearly 30,000 to 35,000 mosques across the state remain unregistered, many of them built over the past two decades without proper land ownership documents.

With the Centre setting a Dec 6 deadline to upload all Waqf properties on the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development (UMEED) portal, the task ahead appears daunting.

According to board officials, a large number of these mosques were constructed on private or govt land, either through donations or informal arrangements. "Many masjids have no papers proving ownership or allotment. Some even stand on govt land that was never legally transferred. The same problem extends to thousands of Dargahs," said a senior Waqf Board official.

Currently, Telangana has around 20,000 to 25,000 registered masjids and other Muslim institutions, but even among them, several are struggling to get hold of their original land records or upload them on the portal. Adding to the complications, many ‘mutawallis' (caretakers) who are supposed to handle registrations were never officially appointed by the board or the minority welfare department.

Another long-standing issue is the lack of financial accountability. Under the Waqf Act, institutions earning more than Rs 1 lakh annually must submit audited accounts certified by a chartered accountant, but many have failed to comply.

Muslim couples in Bengal opt for Special Marriage Act amid wariness over SIR

Nov 8, 2025

By: Anuja Jha

West Bengal has seen an unusual rise in the number of Muslim couples registering their marriages under the Special Marriage Act (SMA), 1954 — a law typically used for interfaith union or by couples who wish to go for civil ceremony — especially in districts bordering Bangladesh and Bihar. Government officials believe this spike is connected to growing anxiety over the ongoing verification of voter lists in the state.

Data shows that between November 2024 and October 2025, 1,130 Muslim couples applied to register their marriages under Section 16 of the SMA. What makes the trend striking is that more than half — 609 applications — were filed between July and October 2025, the same period when a similar Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls took place in neighbouring Bihar. Bengal’s own SIR process began this November.

The registrations are heavily concentrated in border districts. North Dinajpur (199), Malda (197), Murshidabad (185), and Cooch Behar (97) together account for the majority of the applications. In contrast, urban centres such as Kolkata recorded just 24 applications, while places like Jhargram (1) and Kalimpong (2) saw barely any.

Officials say the trend is being driven by public anxiety over voter list verification and a growing preference within the community for a more universally accepted marriage certificate that can serve as reliable proof of identity.

Laying groundwork for local body & assembly polls, Kerala BJP begins door-to-door Muslim outreach

Aneesa PA

08 November, 2025

Thiruvananthapuram: With two crucial elections round the corner, the Kerala BJP unit on Friday announced a mass Muslim outreach programme in the southern state. Kerala BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar said the programme will be spearheaded by the party’s Muslim members, including Vice President Dr M. Abdul Salam and other members from the community. Salam was BJP’s lone Muslim candidate in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Chandrasekhar said the team will visit households of Muslim families to explain the party’s developmental vision for the state that includes everyone irrespective of religion. He said it’s also an attempt to break the party’s image as an anti-Muslim party.

“The vision the Narendra Modi government put forward was Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas. But here, CPI(M) and Congress have put poison in minorities’ minds. The programme will be rolled out to show the truth that we will work with everyone, whoever it is, and whatever their problems are. There is no politics in it, and it’s not for votes,” Chandrasekhar said, adding that the programme was only a sincere attempt to build trust. Chandrasekhar said the team will visit all Muslim houses and explain the party’s vision of ‘Viksit Kerala’ for all.

The BJP, which doesn’t have an MLA in Kerala, is starting the programme just as the state is headed for local body polls in a month. Assembly elections are slated soon after.

Hundreds of cops resign ahead of Zohran Mamdani’s term in NYC: ‘How do you work for a mayor who wants to defund police?’

Nov 9, 2025

New York City police officers are leaving the force in growing numbers, with morale sinking ahead of socialist Zohran Mamdani’s mayoral inauguration, according to the New York Post. NYPD figures show a 35 per cent rise in officer departures in October, with 245 officers quitting compared to 181 in the same month last year, according to Police Pension Fund data.

“Morale is down because everyone is concerned about the policies Mamdani wants to put in place,” said Detectives Endowment Association President Scott Munro. “You have a person who is supposed to be running New York City that does not believe in law enforcement. What’s coming out of everyone’s mouth is, ‘We’re in trouble.’”

The Police Benevolent Association warned that attrition could worsen. “Every single month, we’re losing enough cops to staff an entire precinct,” PBA President Patrick Hendry said. “It will certainly get worse if our city leaders don’t work with us to fix our unsustainable workload, our expired contract and the constant second-guessing that is driving good cops away from the job.”

New hires have helped cover up some losses. The NYPD has recruited 2,911 new officers this year, the highest in a single year since 2006, with the next class scheduled for December. The department currently has 33,745 uniformed officers, down slightly from 33,812 in 2024. Peak staffing was 40,285 in 2000, according to Independent Budget Office data.

‘You work for us, not billionaires’: Joe Biden fires fresh salvos at Donald Trump, slams his ‘golden age’ claim

Former US President Joe Biden delivered one of his strongest attacks yet on MAGA chief Donald Trump during a speech in Omaha on Friday, accusing the president of damaging America’s institutions and mocking his remodel of the White House.

Speaking at a Nebraska Democratic Party gala, the former president told supporters he believed Trump’s actions had gone far beyond what he had expected.

“I knew Trump was going to taking a wrecking ball to the country, but I had no idea, I have to admit, I didn’t know there was going to be an actual wrecking ball,” Biden said, referring to Trump’s demolition of the East Wing to build a vast 90,000 square foot, 300$ million ballroom in White House. “It’s a perfect symbol of his presidency. Trump has taken a wrecking ball not only to the people’s house but to the Constitution, to the rule of law, to our very democracy.”

Biden also mocked Trump’s claim that the United States is living through “a golden age”. He said, “He now says we are quote ‘in a golden age.’ The only gold is the stuff he’s hanging on the mantle,” slamming the ornate additions Trump has made to the Oval Office.

Speaking at times as though Trump were in the room, Biden said, “You act in a way that embarrasses us as a nation, quite frankly.” He argued that Trump has prioritised the interests of his wealthy friends, saying, “You work for us, Mr. President. We don’t work for you. You work for us, not just billionaires and millionaires. I’m angry.”

Zohran Mamdani’s cardamom-flavoured campaign

By Vikram Doctor

Nov 09, 2025

Sadly, no media outlet reported Zohran Mamdani becoming New York’s mayor with the headline ‘Cardamom Captures City.’ His career as a rapper was indeed brief, with three tracks recorded under the name ‘Young Cardamom’ (along with Ugandan rapper HAB, including a track extolling Kenyan chapatis) and one as ‘Mr. Cardamom’ (featuring Madhur Jaffrey as a pistol-packing, expletive-spewing grandmother).

But the history of cardamom resonates with some of the reasons for Mamdani’s win. It is one of the more valuable spices, yet it is relatively overlooked in histories of the spice trade. The major Western colonial empires, like the British, French, and Dutch, were more interested in pepper, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Cardamom’s popularity lay more in the Islamic world, where it was used to flavour coffee or in mouth-freshening sweets. Mamdani campaigned to be the first Muslim mayor of NYC and did it with a frequently wielded packet of mouth freshener that mainly consists of cardamom seeds.

He grew up in Uganda and South Africa and is happy to acknowledge these African roots. Cardamom often features in African cuisines, not least because its citrus-peppery taste is similar to African-origin spices like grains of paradise (Aframomummelegueta) or Ethiopian korerima (Aframomumcorrorima), which is sometimes called false cardamom.

Cardamom’s expense limits its use, but it is used to flavour mandazi , East African doughnuts, or many of the sweets prepared by the South African-Indian community. Mamdani has attacked the inequalities and exploitation caused by the workings of global capital systems. This can be seen in the part of cardamom’s history that is little known in India. In 1914, Oscar MajusKloeffer, a German plantation owner in Guatemala, planted cardamom in the Central American country’s tropical highlands. He realised its climate was close to that of Kerala’s, where cardamom originated, and the spice could be grown more intensively there than in India.

UK military to help protect Belgium after drone incursions

09-11-2025

UK military personnel and equipment are being sent to Belgium to help it bolster its defences after drone incursions on its airspace, suspected of being carried out by Russia.

The new head of the UK military, Sir Richard Knighton, told the BBC's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg that his Belgian counterpart asked for assistance earlier this week and that kit and personnel were on the way.

Belgium's main airport Zavantem was forced to close temporarily on Thursday night after drones were spotted nearby. They were also spotted in other locations, including a military base.

Alongside Nato allies, he added that the UK would help Belgium "by providing our kit and capability" which he said was already being deployed.

It comes after Sir Richard warned in of an "increasingly certain world" in a Sunday Telegraph opinion column to mark Remembrance Sunday.

Govt 'gripping' prisons crisis as 'unacceptable' mistaken releases have risen, minister says

9 November 2025

The government is "gripping" the prisons crisis, minister Lisa Nandy told Sky News, as she said it is "unacceptable" the number of prisoners being wrongly released has risen.

Ms Nandy, the culture secretary, told Sunday Morning With Trevor Phillips that Justice Secretary David Lammy has made a senior appointment "to make sure we really grip this" after it was revealed this week two prisoners had been mistakenly released.

She said the number of wrongful releases had gone up under the current government, from 17 a month under the Conservatives, to 22, which she said was "completely unacceptable".

Algerian sex offender BrahimKaddour-Cherif was recaptured on Friday, with his arrest witnessed by Sky News, while Billy Smith handed himself in.

Days before Kaddour-Cherif's release, Mr Lammy had promised to implement further checks on prisoner releases after migrant sex offender HadushKebatu was earlier released by mistake.

Islamic Jihad: Any plan to disarm Gaza is doomed to fail

08 Nov 2025

Gaza – Saba:The Deputy Secretary-General of the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine, Mohammad Al-Hindi, stated that any plan to disarm the Gaza Strip is doomed to fail, emphasizing that no faction has the right to approve the disarmament of the Palestinian people.

He added that the latest U.S. draft resolution aims to transform the Palestinian issue from a national liberation project into a humanitarian matter.

Al-Hindi explained in a statement to Al Jazeera Mubasher on Saturday evening that the U.S. draft to be submitted to the UN Security Council is shrouded in ambiguity. He stressed that the establishment of an international force to replace the Zionist enemy in Gaza is unacceptable.

He further stated that the technocratic committee to manage Gaza should have a Palestinian reference, not a peace council mandate, and that it is unacceptable for Israel to have a veto over the countries participating in the international force in the Strip.

Iraq’s 2025 poll: +21M voters, new law, fading monitors, and fierce bloc rivalries

2025-11-09

Iraq will hold its parliamentary elections on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, with special voting on Sunday, November 9, for security forces, displaced persons, and detainees. The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) reports more than 21.4 million registered voters, including 1.34 million eligible for special voting, across 18 provinces. Preparations include over 8,000 polling centers and thousands of press and monitoring facilities.

The elections will take place under the 2023 amended electoral law, which restored the Sainte-Laguë proportional representation formula using a 1.7 divisor. Iraq’s 83 electoral districts correspond to its provinces, with 329 parliamentary seats to be distributed. The system strengthens established political blocs and reduces the advantage independents gained in 2021. A recent Federal Supreme Court ruling also unified the Kurdistan Region’s constituencies under federal oversight.

Within the Shiite political arena, the Coordination Framework dominates the race, led by figures such as Nouri al-Maliki, Hadi al-Amiri, and Ammar al-Hakim. These alliances are contesting key southern and central constituencies. The Patriotic Shiite Movement, headed by Muqtada al-Sadr, continues to boycott the elections, a stance that reshapes voter mobilization patterns in Baghdad, Najaf, and Maysan.

The Sunni political landscape is marked by five major alliances: Taqaddum (Progress), Al-Azm (Determination), Al-Siyada (Sovereignty), Nineveh for Its People (Ninawa Li Ahliha), and National Resolve Alliance (Al-Hasm Al-Watani). A new Unified Sunni Leadership Coalition (Ittihad Al-Qiyada Al-Sunniya Al-Muwahhada) aims to coordinate parliamentary strategies after the vote. Their competition centers on provinces such as al-Anbar, Saladin, and Nineveh.

In the Kurdistan Region, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) remain the dominant actors, while New Generation (Al-Jeel Al-Jadeed-NGM), Kurdistan Islamic Union, and Kurdistan Justice Group are seeking to expand their reach.

Explosives and weapons were seized, with the interior ministry revealing they were working on "precise" intelligence information.

A statement added that the operation was part of "ongoing national efforts to combat terrorism and confront plots targeting the country's security and citizens".

Meanwhile, the US is preparing to establish a military presence in Damascus to enable a security pact that is being brokered between Syria and Israel.

US sanctions official says time is right to cut Iran's Hezbollah funding

By Jonathan Spicer

November 9, 2025

ISTANBUL, Nov 9 (Reuters) - The United States seeks to take advantage of a "moment" in Lebanon in which it can cut Iranian funding to Hezbollah and press the group to disarm, the U.S. Treasury Department's top sanctions official said.

In a late Friday interview, John Hurley, the undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, said Iran has managed to funnel about $1 billion to Hezbollah this year despite a raft of Western sanctions that have battered its economy.

The Reuters Gulf Currents newsletter brings you the latest on geopolitics, energy and finance in the region. Sign up here.

The U.S. has adopted a "maximum pressure" campaign on Tehran meant to curb its uranium enrichment and regional influence, including in Lebanon where Iran-backed Hezbollah is also weakened after Israel shattered its military power in a 2023-24 war.

'Go get me my phone': Pete Hegseth recalls moment when Trump ordered strikes on Iran

Nov 08, 2025

The US carried out precision airstrikes in June on three major Iranian nuclear sites, marking Washington's first direct intervention in Israel-Tehran conflict

US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth recounted the moment when President Donald Trump gave the go-ahead for strikes on Iran's nuclear-linked facilities, calling it the moment "when the world listens 'FAFO.'"

At the event on Thursday, Hegseth shared, "That moment we realised that our bombers were out of Iran and the bombs had hit the target and the world didn't know."

He continued, "It was a fun moment when Donald Trump turned to his assistant and said, go get me my phone. See. Ready? Boop. The world, listen, FAFO."

The US carried out precision airstrikes in June on three major Iranian nuclear sites - Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan - marking Washington's first direct intervention in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Tehran. The strike on Fordow, a deeply buried facility, reportedly involved six 30,000-pound "bunker buster" bombs deployed by the US Air Force's B-2 stealth bombers, demonstrating the scale and secrecy of the mission.

During a Pentagon press briefing, Hegseth stated, "President Donald J. Trump directed the most complex and secretive military operation in history, and it was a resounding success, resulting in a cease-fire agreement and the end of the 12-day war [between Iran and Israel]."

Grossi is at it again: IAEA chief repeats incendiary claims on Iran’s nuclear program

November 8, 2025

In a Thursday interview with France 24, Grossi claimed that despite the recent U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, the Islamic Republic still possesses enough highly enriched uranium and technical capability to produce several nuclear weapons. He added that although the facilities at Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow had been “severely damaged,” Tehran retains “the necessary knowledge and materials” to rebuild its nuclear infrastructure within a year.

With U.S. President Donald Trump, who recently admitted that he was “in charge” of the war against Iran, saying multiple times since June that he has “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear capabilities, as well as efforts underway to restart negotiations, Grossi’s remarks about Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons look particularly out of touch and unnecessary.

In the weeks leading up to the June attacks, an IAEA report overseen by Grossi claimed Iran’s uranium enrichment had reached levels “higher than those typical in non-military programs.”

That report, described by Iranian officials as “misleading and selective,” was repeatedly cited by the Israeli regime to rationalize its illegal strikes on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities.

WHO: 16,500 Gaza patients await evacuation for treatment abroad

9/11/2025

The World Health Organization announced that 16,500 Palestinian patients in Gaza are waiting to be evacuated for treatment abroad, calling for unrestricted humanitarian access through all crossings and for more countries to receive critical cases.

In a statement issued Saturday, the WHO said its medical supplies are ready at the border, stressing the need to urgently reopen the Rafah crossing and all entry points to the Gaza Strip.

Since the ceasefire agreement took effect on October 10, Israeli occupation authorities have allowed only limited quantities of humanitarian aid to enter through two of seven crossings, while keeping the Rafah border crossing closed until further notice, in what the WHO said constitutes a violation of the truce’s terms.

Trump declares Nigeria Country of Particular Interest: the predisposing factors

November 9, 2025

by Femi Orebe

Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria.Thousands of Christians are being killed.  Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter. I am hereby making Nigeria a ‘country of particular concern.’

“But that is the least of it. When Christians, or any such group, are slaughtered like is happening in Nigeria  something must be done! I am asking Congressman Riley Moore, together with Chairman Tom Cole and the House Appropriations Committee, to immediately look into this matter and report back to me.” – President  Donald Trump in a post on his Truth Social.

Ever rambunctious and irascible, President Donald Trump of America did not just wake up, as if from a bad dream, to declare Nigeria a Country of Particular Interest(CPC).

Before he did, a slew of  congressmen and other stakeholders had bombarded him with reports of the killings in Nigeria, especially in Christian communities where thousands are, of a truth, being killed, their houses and churches incinerated, those alive banished for ever from their ancestral lands on the pain of death, the names of their lands promptly changed, and Sharia declared.

All these obviously to the satisfaction of Northern Muslims, most of who are eager to see the whole of Nigeria declared a Muslim country.

Truth be told, these sundry killers – bandits, Fulani herder terrorists, Boko Haram, ISWAP etc also kill Muslims, but  never as intentionally targeted as their Christians counterparts.

President Trump was moved to this action by an  appeal from a U.S law maker to the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, to take  immediate diplomatic action against Nigeria over what he described as the systematic persecution and slaughter of Christians in Nigeria; a country  he described as the deadliest place in the world for Christians”.

He called for Nigeria’s re-designation as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) and for the suspension of arms sales to it until the government demonstrates a “tangible commitment” to ending the violence. Citing figures from Open Doors, he claimed that more than 7,000 Christians had been killed in 2025 alone and that at least 19,100 churches have been  destroyed since 2009″.

Govt focused on 2027 election while citizens die daily– Ex-CAN President, Ayokunle

9th November 2025

Former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev Samson Ayokunle, speaks with DANIEL AYANTOYE on the United States President Donald Trump’s recent threat against Nigeria on the alleged Christian genocide and the perceived silence of CAN’s leadership on national issues

It is not a claim, but the situation on the ground. Please ask those who are disputing it, how many people do they want to be killed before they accept that it is genocide? Many Christian communities have been deliberately levelled, and the people who levelled those communities are now occupying their land—in Plateau and Benue states, including Southern Kaduna. I experienced these things. In Miango, a community in Plateau State, 21 people were reportedly killed during an attack that occurred despite the presence of only two churches in the village. People warned me against going to the village, that I could vanish. But I told them, “If I perish, I perish.” Among the 21 people killed, 20 were Baptists from my own church, and I was the President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention. The other person was a Methodist. They descended on them overnight. What was their offence that should lead to such a massacre? Why did they choose to go to a predominantly Christian village? Two weeks after that, they went to that village again to finish the job, and we claim to have the military and the police.

Do you know that is the most disgusting statement I have ever heard? Are we now saying it is false that Christians are crying out because they are being killed? What makes the killing of Christians particularly worrisome is that those responsible are some Muslims. If members of the same faith attack one another, it’s viewed differently. But when some Muslims target Christians, it becomes persecution—and with the number involved, it is genocide.

Not only that, Mohammed Yusuf was the progenitor of Boko Haram, and when he was killed, AbubakarShekau took over from him. Their stated goal was that Western education is forbidden; that Western government and democracy are evil, and that these have not brought people the prosperity they deserve. Therefore, they vowed to wipe out anything representing Western civilisation or democracy, including Christians.

They even issued a statement at the time, ordering all Christians in the North to vacate, declaring that they would wipe out anything un-Islamic. What, to them, could be more un-Islamic than Christians and the Church? They also said any Muslim critic or Muslim who opposed their cause would be wiped out because such a person had aligned with infidels. They were clear about their goal and determined to exterminate Christianity and Christians.

How can the government now defend them by saying they didn’t intend to wipe out Christians—except the government itself is an accomplice in this matter? That is why they have failed to end this crisis for the past 16 years.

Ex-ACF scribe: US interventions fail to solve crises

8th November 2025

Former Secretary General of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) Anthony Sani has dismissed as “untenable” US President Donald Trump’s alleged threat of war against Nigeria over claims of Christian genocide, saying the country’s insecurity cuts across religious and ethnic lines.

Sani also criticised America’s historical interventions in other nations, citing Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya as examples of failed foreign military engagements. “History does not support such an approach,” he said, adding that US intervention rarely solves the underlying problems.

In a statement made available to Sunday Sun, Sani argued that the killings of innocent citizens in Nigeria are not driven by religion but by diverse local factors that differ from region to region.

“In the North-East, which is predominantly Muslim, Boko Haram insurgents, mostly Muslims, kill fellow Muslims. In the North-West, bandits and kidnappers who are Hausa-Fulani Muslims also kill their own people,” he said.

According to him, in the North-Central zone, where violence is often linked to farmer-herder clashes, both Christians and Muslims have been victims. “Because the zone is predominantly Christian, the victims tend to be more Christians, but many of the attackers are also Christians and indigenes,” he added, citing the example of the late militia leader TerwaseAkwaza (popularly known as Gana) in Benue State.

Anti-India Yunus, Chief Adviser Of Bangladesh,Makes Another Alarming Move, Joins Hands With Pakistan

By Sumaila Zaman

November 9, 2025

Bangladesh-Pakistan ties were at their lowest ebb during Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League regime, particularly when it initiated in 2010 the trial of collaborators of Pakistani troops during the 1971 Liberation War.

The increasing closeness between Pakistan and Bangladesh in recent months has raised concerns in New Delhi. Bangladesh and Pakistan seem to be moving past the divisive events of 1971 and reaching similar positions—particularly in their critique of India’s policies and regional partnerships. Bangladesh’s distinct diplomatic tone under Mohammad Yunus has been moving closer to Islamabad’s position on various issues in South Asia. Dhaka and Islamabad’s new warmth toward each other is a major shift in the regional security situation, as both countries express similar concerns about their shared border, trade, and water-sharing agreements with India.

With growing concerns associated with terrorism and cross-border activities, this new proximity between Dhaka and Islamabad may create further strategic difficulties for India and have implications for peace and security in the South Asia region.

Pakistan rejoiced as soon as Mohammad Yunus assumed power in Bangladesh. What Pakistan could not achieve in 50 years after Bangladesh’s formation, Yunus managed to accomplish within just 15 months. For the first time, a Pakistani navy ship arrived in Bangladesh’s Chattogram Port on Friday for a four-day “goodwill” visit, as reported by News18 Hindi.

Clarification on the outcomes of the Istanbul meeting

November 9, 2025

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan once again thanks the Republic of Turkey and the State of Qatar — the two brotherly countries — for hosting and mediating the talks between Afghanistan and Pakistan in Istanbul.

Representatives of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, by special direction of the leadership, participated in Istanbul in good faith and with appropriate authority on two consecutive days (November 6 and 7), hoping that this time the Pakistani side, after consultation with its leaders, would approach the issue seriously and constructively, with a responsible attitude, and present realistic and implementable demands to reach a fundamental solution.

During the talks, the Pakistani side attempted to refer all responsibilities regarding its security to the Afghan government, while at the same time it did not demonstrate any willingness to assume responsibility for either Afghanistan’s security or its own.

The irresponsible and non-cooperative attitude of the Pakistani delegation resulted in no outcome, despite the Islamic Emirate’s good intentions and the efforts of the mediators. The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan reiterates its principled position:

it will not allow anyone to use Afghan territory against another country, nor will it permit any country to use its territory to take actions against or support actions that undermine Afghanistan’s national sovereignty, independence, or security.

Remarks by the Spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate Concerning Recent Developments and the TTP

November 9, 2025

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, Who is sufficient for us, and may peace and blessings be upon His chosen servants. To proceed: Today, we wish to brief you on the latest developments in the negotiations held in Turkey, as well as the emergence of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and several related matters. Unfortunately, certain military elements in Pakistan appear to perceive a strong central government in Afghanistan, along with stability, security, and development, as contrary to their interests. For years, they have taken advantage of Afghanistan’s instability, conflicts, and displacement. Once again, they appear intent on creating tensions through manufactured pretexts. We are well aware that these anti-Afghanistan policies are not supported by the devout population of Pakistan, its political parties, or its respected religious scholars. Some groups have falsely accused the Islamic Emirate, presenting to the international community the impression that the instability in Pakistan and the rise of the TTP began with the arrival of the Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan. In reality, both the insecurity and the emergence of the TTP date back to 2002, primarily as a result of misguided policies by certain elements within the Pakistani military, which at the time aligned with the United States and allowed drone strikes in Waziristan while simultaneously turning against the local population. They repeatedly conducted large and small-scale operations, causing civilian casualties, destroying homes, and imprisoning many innocent tribal residents. We wish to recall several instances of past confrontations between the Pakistani military and the disadvantaged Pashtun tribes to demonstrate that the TTP issue predates the Islamic Emirate and has no connection whatsoever with it. Overview of Military Actions and Clashes in the Tribal Areas Involving the TTP: The TTP emerged in 2002 in response to the Pakistani military’s cooperation with the United States, which included drone strikes and aerial bombardments in Waziristan. Since then, Pakistani forces have carried out a series of operations against the TTP, while the group has continued to launch both major and minor attacks across Pakistan up to the present. http://1.In March 2002, the Pakistani military launched its first operation against the TTP, named Operation Al-Mizan, in South Waziristan, North Waziristan, and Orakzai Agency. Over 80,000 local residents were displaced. http://2.In 2007, the Pakistani military conducted Operation Rah-e-Rast in Swat and Malakand, displacing approximately 400,000 people, some of whom were relocated near the Afghan border. http://3.In 2008, Operation Sher Dil (Lion’s Heart) in Bajaur Agency displaced around 600,000 people. http://4.In October 2009, Operation Nijat in South Waziristan displaced approximately 300,000–400,000 local residents. http://5.In July 2011, Operation Koh-e-Safid (White Mountain) in Kurram Agency displaced about 100,000 people. 6.On June 15, 2014, Operation Zarb-e-A

Bangladesh Police Conducts Major Security Drill in Dhaka Amid Unrest Fears Ahead of Protests

By Sathish Raman

November 9, 2025

Bangladesh police conducted a significant security drill in Dhaka on Saturday. This exercise was in preparation for the Awami League's "Dhaka Lockdown" event planned for November 13. Reports from local newspapers, citing unnamed sources within the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), indicated that approximately 7,000 officers participated in the operation at 142 locations, including the residence of interim government leader Muhammad Yunus.

Witnesses noted an increased police presence throughout Dhaka, raising concerns among residents about potential unrest on November 13. The DMP described the deployment as part of their "regular security exercise." Officers in riot gear, including helmets and body armour, were stationed at key intersections, conducting bag checks and questioning pedestrians while inspecting suspicious vehicles.

The DMP's spokesman, Muhammad Talebur Rahman, stated that these activities are part of their routine operations to ensure readiness for emergencies. He mentioned that officers of various ranks participated in Saturday's exercise. An anonymous DMP official explained that the "mega drill" aimed to test police coordination and readiness while deterring potential violence or unrest ahead of November 13.

Bangladesh police stages drill amid fears of unrest in capital: Reports

Nov 09, 2025

Dhaka: Bangladesh police has carried out a large-scale coordinated security drill at key points of the capital ahead of deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina's now disbanded Awami League's "Dhaka Lockdown" programme on November 13.

Several newspapers quoting unidentified sources in the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said some 7,000 policemen took part in a drill on Saturday at 142 locations, including interim government chief Muhammad Yunus' residence, to contain possible violent street protests next week.

Witnesses reported increased police presence across Dhaka, which enhanced concerns among residents of the capital about the law and order situation on November 13.

Awami League presidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanok, currently in India, has announced a "lockdown-like" protest programme for November 13, but police did not confirm whether current deployments were linked to his announcement.

Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal (ICT-BD) is set to announce a date for delivering judgment against deposed prime minister Hasina after her trial in absentia on charges of alleged crimes against humanity.
