Khamenei killing sparks Shia outrage in India; tensions rise in J&K and Lucknow

------------
Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's death has sparked protests in several parts of India. Members of the Shia community in Lucknow and Jammu and Kashmir held mourning marches on Sunday morning following the confirmation of the death in the US-Israel strike.
Protesters took to the streets in large numbers to condemn the US and Israel for the killing of Ayatollah Khamenei. Demonstrators raised slogans against 'the oppression of innocents,' with many vowing that the leader's legacy would live on through a new generation of followers,
In Alipur, a village in Bengaluru, a three-day mourning was declared. Many demonstrators were seen clutching portraits of the Supreme Leader, with several overcome by emotion and in tears. An unofficial shutdown took hold across Alipura as shopkeepers and business owners voluntarily closed their doors in solidarity.
Speaking to ANI, India's Shia community leader Syed Samar Kazmi said that the Supreme Leader was "killed because he raised his voice for the killings in Palestine while the world was silent."
In Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow, mourners also held a protest march. “They (US) kept deceiving with talks and threatened about war, but our leader did not get afraid and did not bow... A thousand Khameneis will rise, and this war will continue... Trump cannot win easily," a protester was quoted by ANI.
Jammu and Kashmir's Shia association has also issued a statement of mourning. Protesters marched through the streets shouting anti-US and anti-Israel slogans.
"Deeply saddened and outraged at the brutal killing of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei, by the US and Israel, which has shaken the Muslim world. The people of JK collectively condemn this brutality and the ongoing aggression against Iran, as well as the massacre of innocent girl students in Minab," the Mirwaiz said in a post on X.
The religious leaders said this is a moment for the Muslims to rise above divisions and stand united and "register our protest and solidarity against this killing and the continued aggression in the region".
Amid tensions in the area, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah appealed for calm. "I'm deeply concerned about the unfolding developments in Iran, including the killing of Iran's Supreme Leader. I appeal to all communities to remain calm, uphold peace, and avoid any actions that could lead to tension or unrest," said Abdullah.

10 killed as Pakistan opens fire on protesters after attack on US Consulate in Karachi over Khamenei's death
By:Isha Bhandari

Pakistan protesters smash windows at US Consulate
-----------
New Delhi: Anger over recent US-Israel military strikes on Iran erupted in Pakistan as protesters gathered outside the US Consulate in Karachi, smashing windows and hurling sticks and stones. Security forces reportedly opened fire to disperse the crowd, killing at least 10 people.
The unrest follows the joint US-Israeli strikes that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several top Tehran officials. Demonstrators in Karachi expressed outrage at the actions of the United States and Israel, blaming them for destabilizing the region.
Khamenei, Shamkhani, and Pakpour were killed during coordinated US-Israel attacks on Tehran. Additional commanders of the Iranian armed forces were also killed. In response, Iran announced that it would target US military bases across the Middle East. Iranian authorities described their actions as part of a “strong and decisive response” following the death of top leaders.
The strikes, carried out in coordination between US and Israeli forces, hit multiple targets linked to Iran’s political and military leadership. The impact of the attack and the broader military campaign is still unfolding, with global attention now focused on potential reactions from Tehran’s allies and the wider Middle East.
According to reports, more than 200 people were killed in the US-Israel strikes. Now, Iran has vowed to strongly reply to the strikes. It has also targeted multiple US bases in the region, a move that has irked most of the Gulf nations, who have condemned the act.
Iran has also blocked the Strait of Hormuz, as multiple vessels have received transmission from Iranian Revolutionary Guards that no ships will be allowed in the narrow strip on which around 20 per cent of the global energy supplies depend.
"Despite deep reservations stemming from past experiences, including the recent 12-day war, Iran persisted with negotiations to demonstrate our commitment to peace and to remove any pretext for conflict," said Iran's Ambassador to India Mohammad Fathali said.
"However, today's coordinated action by the United States and the Zionist regime once again confirms their unreliability. It reveals their real aim: continued pressure, threats and direct military aggression to pursue illegitimate interests," he added.

Khamenei stood for justice, his blood will fuel change in the Ummah — Gumi
March 1, 2026

Ahmad Abubakar Mahmud Gumi
--------
Islamic scholar Ahmad Abubakar Mahmud Gumi has described the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei as a symbol of justice whose death, he said, would inspire change across the Muslim world.
In a statement on his Facebook page, Gumi portrayed Khamenei as a leader who remained steadfast in his beliefs, saying he “stood firmly for justice” and did not retreat in the face of conflict.
He characterized the late leader’s death as occurring in the course of a struggle he framed as defending innocent civilians in Gaza and other regions.
Gumi further stated that Khamenei’s death would “fuel change in the ummah,” suggesting it could galvanize unity and renewed resolve among Muslims globally.
The cleric also issued a veiled warning to those he accused of being responsible for or complicit in the killing, saying time would reveal the consequences of their actions.

Afghanistan Says Pak Fighter Jet Down as Cross-border Strikes Flare
28 Feb 2026

------------
Kabul: A Pakistani fighter jet crashed in Jalalabad in Afghanistan's east, the Afghan military and police said on Saturday, after Islamabad launched air strikes on at least three cities in a flare-up of cross-border fighting.
The United States voiced its diplomatic support for Pakistan's actions after Islamabad said it would not stop strikes that were meant to pressure an Afghan government that it accuses of backing militancy.
The Taliban government has denied harbouring militants and its spokesperson has called for "dialogue" to resolve a previously simmering conflict that Pakistan's defence minister said on Friday was now "open war".
An AFP journalist heard a jet flying over Jalalabad, followed by the sound of two explosions from the direction of the city's airport. Jalalabad residents also told AFP that they saw a person who parachuted from the plane before being detained.
"A Pakistani fighter jet was shot down in the sixth district of Jalalabad city, and its pilot was captured alive," police spokesman Tayeb Hammad said. Wahidullah Mohammadi, spokesman for the military in eastern Afghanistan, said the Pakistani jet was downed by Afghan forces "and the pilot was captured alive".
Afghanistan's defence ministry has also said it carried out air strikes on Pakistani territory over the past two days, which observers said could have been drones. Pakistan launched air strikes on Friday on the Afghan capital Kabul and southern Kandahar, where Afghan Taliban Supreme Leader Hibatullah Akhundzada is based.
That came after Afghan forces began a border offensive late on Thursday, which the Taliban government said was in response to earlier Pakistani strikes. The South Asian neighbours have clashed at the border intermittently for months.
Pakistan's information minister said on Saturday that 37 locations across Afghanistan had been subject to aerial targeting since its operation began, although it was not clear if strikes had taken place on Friday night.
"Pakistan's immediate and effective response to aggression continues," Mosharraf Zaidi, a spokesman for Pakistan's prime minister, posted on X late on Friday.
The United States "expressed support for Pakistan's right to defend itself against Taliban attacks", Allison Hooker, the under secretary of state for political affairs, wrote on X after talks with her Pakistani counterpart. The sharp surge in hostilities also drew concern from China, Britain, the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Taliban government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said on Friday Afghan forces had killed 55 Pakistani soldiers and captured several others. He put the death toll among Afghan troops at 13.
Pakistan's Zaidi said 297 Afghan Taliban and militants had been killed. Islamabad said earlier 12 of its soldiers had been killed. The Afghan government's deputy spokesman Hamdullah Fitrat said at least 19 civilians had also been killed in eastern Khost and Paktika provinces. Casualty claims from both sides are difficult to verify independently.
This week's escalation marked the first time that Pakistan has focused its air strikes on Afghan government facilities, analysts noted, a stark change from previous operations that it said targeted militants.
Relations between the neighbours have plunged in recent months, with land border crossings largely shut since deadly fighting in October that killed more than 70 people on both sides.
Islamabad accuses Afghanistan of failing to act against militant groups that carry out attacks in Pakistan, which the Taliban government denies. Most of the attacks have been claimed by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a militant group that has stepped up assaults in Pakistan since 2021.
Pakistan's Zaidi told AFP on Saturday that there had been no reports of border clashes during the night, but that gunmen he said were associated with the Pakistani Taliban had attacked a checkpoint in the northwest near Afghanistan's Khost province. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for that attack.
Iran, which shares an eastern border with Afghanistan and Pakistan, offered on Friday to help "facilitate dialogue", while Saudi Arabia and Qatar moved to allay tensions. China said it was "working with" both countries and called for calm.
In Geneva, ICRC president Mirjana Spoljaric said the organisation was preparing relief operations but stressed that "no humanitarian response can compensate for political will".
Several rounds of negotiations between Pakistan and Afghanistan last year followed a ceasefire brokered by Qatar and Turkey. Those efforts have failed to produce a lasting agreement.
Saudi Arabia intervened this month after repeated breaches of the initial truce, mediating the release of three Pakistani soldiers captured by Afghanistan in October.

Trump warns Iran not to retaliate after Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is killed
March 1, 2026
By Jane Arraf
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, 86, was killed in a joint American-Israeli operation targeting Iran on Saturday, Iran's state media has confirmed.
In this 2017 photo, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, wearing a turban and traditional clothing, sits on a chair. A framed portrait of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini stands on a table on the right side of the frame.
The Iranian government has announced 40 days of mourning. The country's supreme leader was killed following an attack launched by the U.S. and Israel on Saturday against Iran as part of a major military campaign intended to topple the Islamic regime.
Israel's military said that top Iranian security officials were among those killed, including the country's defense minister, the commander of the Revolutionary Guard Corps, and the secretary of the Iranian Security Council, a close adviser to Khamenei. Iran state media has confirmed their deaths.
Khamenei was killed by an Israeli strike, a person briefed on the strike told NPR. The NPR source requested anonymity because they are not authorized to speak publicly. Trump did not confirm that the strike was carried out by Israel.
"He was unable to avoid our Intelligence and Highly Sophisticated Tracking Systems and, working closely with Israel, there was not a thing he, or the other leaders that have been killed along with him, could do," Trump said. Hours later he warned Iran against further retaliation, writing "THEY BETTER NOT DO THAT, HOWEVER, BECAUSE IF THEY DO, WE WILL HIT THEM WITH A FORCE THAT HAS NEVER BEEN SEEN BEFORE!"
The initial wave of U.S. and Israeli airstrikes had started after sunrise in Iran on Saturday, with huge explosions ringing out in the capital Tehran. Early videos showed large plumes of thick smoke.
Iran's Foreign Ministry called the attacks a "gross violation" of its national sovereignty. A statement said the airstrikes hit both military and civilian targets.
The speaker of Iran's parliament Sunday called United States and Israel's leaders "filthy criminals" who will face "devastating blows" for the attacks.
"They have hit many targets around me and we hear fighter jets and missiles exploding," said a resident in western Tehran reached by phone before communications were cut in Iran. Like other Iranian residents interviewed by NPR, they did not want to use their names for fear of arrest. "People were panicking and trying to get to their homes. Children are running out of school."
Iranian state media said one of the airstrikes hit a girls' primary school in southern Iran, killing at least 85 children, according to the local prosecutors office. The prosecutors said more girls were still buried under the rubble. Saturday is the start of the Iranian school and work week. NPR is asking Israeli officials for comment on the report a school was hit.
Capt. Tim Hawkins, a spokesperson for U.S. Central Command, told NPR on Saturday it was aware of reports about civilians being harmed.
"We take these reports seriously and are looking into them," Hawkins said. "The protection of civilians is of utmost importance, and we will continue to take all precautions available to minimize the risk of unintended harm. Unlike Iran, we have never — and will never — target civilians."
Iran has continued to respond with missile and drone launches of its own, spreading the conflict to the wider region. Air raid sirens wailed in Israel as multiple missiles targeted Tel Aviv and Jerusalem early Sunday. According to the Israeli rescue services, the first 24 hours of the latest conflict saw one person killed and 121 injured.
Several countries in the Gulf also reported Iranian strikes, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait. The Jordanian government, which also hosts major U.S. military bases, reported it downed 49 drones and ballistic missiles threatening its territory.
In Dubai, smoke was visibly rising from the world's busiest international airport and its major port, while debris caused when air defense systems collided with Iranian drones caused several injuries in a residential area.
"Our objective is to defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime, a vicious group of very hard, terrible people," Trump said in an eight-minute video posted on Truth Social Saturday.

Islam, Christianity are Nigeria’s double strength — Adebayo
March 1, 2026
Clerics and faithful from the Muslim and Christian communities gathered on Tuesday at the Al-Ahfad Mosque in Gombe for a special Ramadan Iftar aimed at fostering unity and religious tolerance.
Speaking at the event, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Prince Adewole Adebayo, described the coincidence of Ramadan and the Christian Lenten season as a unique opportunity for national rebirth.
“The central message in this holy Ramadan, which coincides with Christians’ Lent, is an opportunity to redeem ourselves, renew our faith, and reflect on who we are as a community,” Adebayo said.
According to him, the presence of Christianity and Islam in Nigeria should be seen as a “double blessing” rather than a source of division. He urged Nigerians to embrace the core values of both religions — peace, justice, and responsible leadership — to build a united and progressive nation.
“If we are united and use the tenets of our religions to raise a new generation, they will not be thinking of how to get rid of each other; rather, they will be thinking of how to get rid of bad leadership,” he stated. “The faith and characteristics of our religions talk about peace, justice and raising leaders who will unite us together, and the earlier we start, the better for us.”
Earlier in his remarks, the Chief Imam of the mosque, Dr Umar Dokaji, said the gathering was timely as both Muslims and Christians are observing fasting periods.
He noted that inviting Christian and Islamic scholars to break fast together was a practical demonstration of religious tolerance, especially at a time when the country faces allegations of religious persecution, as well as ethnic and terrorist crises in some parts.
“This kind of gathering will help unite the two major religious faiths and will go a long way in preventing deadly religious crises in the largest Black nation on earth,” Dokaji said, while also calling for support for vulnerable groups and stressing that justice remains key to resolving Nigeria’s lingering challenges.
Also speaking, former North-East Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Reverend Abare Kalla, who represented the Christian invitees, described the joint fasting period as divinely orchestrated.
He said the prayers and supplications offered by Muslims during Ramadan, mirror those of Christians during Lent, emphasising that the overwhelming majority of Muslims globally reject terrorism. He added that Christians and Muslims working together can overcome the forces of violence and division threatening the country.
Kalla recalled how Christian and Muslim communities in Nasarawa had previously resolved a misunderstanding over a place of worship amicably, describing it as a model of peaceful coexistence.

Muslim cleric urges PM Modi to mediate US-Israel-Iran conflict
Mar 01 2026
All India Muslim Jamaat National President Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi on Saturday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to mediate, leveraging India's good relations with the US, Israel, and Iran, to prevent escalation. Speaking in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, Maulana Razvi emphasised that war is not the solution, advocating for dialogue to resolve conflicts. He praised Iran's stance, saying it has humbled America's pride and Israel's arrogance.
"...This war is not the solution to any issue. The solution is dialogue, and the issue should be resolved only through dialogue... By not bowing down, Iran has shattered America's pride and Israel's arrogance. America is infuriated by the retaliatory action taken by a poor country, and Israel is in a state of panic, due to which they want a coup in Iran, but that is not possible...," he told ANI.
Razvi called on PM Modi to mediate, given India's balanced relations with the involved nations. "I want to tell Prime Minister Modi that he has good relations with America, Israel, and Iran, and on the basis of those relations, he should mediate and stop this war...," he said. The statement comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East between Iran and Israel, with concerns growing over the potential for wider conflict.

High Court directs probe into namaz shed near Mumbai airport
February 28, 2026
Taxi and cab drivers, predominantly Muslim, have approached the Bombay High Court after the Maharashtra government and Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) denied their request for a designated shed outside Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to offer namaz.
The Auto-Taxi, Ola-Uber Men’s Union petitioned the court, highlighting that 1,500–2,000 drivers gather daily in the area for prayers but struggle due to long working hours and passenger wait times. They seek only a small, peaceful space without causing disturbance or breaching rules.
A division bench comprising Justices B.P. Colabawalla and Firdosh Pooniwalla heard the matter and directed authorities to explore alternative sites nearby that do not compromise security. The court suggested temporary arrangements during Ramzan, with structures removable afterward to restore the site.
The state, represented by Additional Public Prosecutor Jyoti Chavan, opposed the plea, stressing that the proposed location lies in a high-security zone. Regular large gatherings could pose risks, with airport security managed by police. Officials noted nearby mosques as viable options.

Pakistan: JSFM alleges crackdown on Sindhi National Movement, appeals to international community
Mar 01, 2026
Karachi [Pakistan], March 1 (ANI): The Jeay Sindh Freedom Movement (JSFM) has alleged an intensified crackdown on Sindhi nationalist activists across Sindh, claiming that state institutions are targeting members of the movement through raids, arrests, and enforced disappearances.
In a video statement, JSFM Chairman Sohail Abro accused Pakistani state agencies including the ISI, Military Intelligence (MI), Rangers, and Police of conducting operations against activists who speak about Sindh's rights and political grievances. He alleged that several nationalist workers have been forcibly abducted, their homes raided, and their families harassed.
According to Abro, authorities recently raided the residence of Mohammad Osama Sumro, organiser of the JSFM UK Chapter. During the raid, family members were allegedly mistreated, and portraits of veteran Sindhi leader GM Syed and martyr Bashir Khan were desecrated. He further claimed that similar raids were conducted at the homes of party spokesperson Mansoor Ahmed and London organiser Tahir Khan.

Military Digest: When Iran and US teamed up to support Pakistan in 1965 and 1971 wars against India
by: Man Aman Singh Chhina
Mar 1, 2026
Iran has been in the news since Saturday morning, with the United States and Israel launching air attacks and missiles against military and infrastructure targets in the country. The aim, as proclaimed by US President Donald Trump, is to effect regime change and encourage Iranians to depose the Shia Muslim clerics who have been in command of Iran since the Islamic revolution of 1979.
It is worth noting that, while India has had reasonably good relations with Iran since the 1979 regime change, the country’s earlier ruler, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the Shah of Iran, was decidedly pro-Pakistan. Pahlavi, who ruled Iran from 1941 to 1979, was instrumental in helping Pakistan with military aid during the 1965 and 1971 wars with India. And much of this military help was given at the bidding of US administrations.
Intelligence memorandums of the US State Department dating back to the early 1970s throw detailed light on the Iranian helpful attitude towards Pakistan during the wars that it fought against India.

Iranian Ayatollah Ali Khamenei killed in Israeli strike in Tehran
By Tamara Zieve
February 28, 2026
President Donald Trump confirmed on Saturday that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran and the country’s highest political and religious authority, was killed during Israeli and U.S. strikes in the country.
“Khamenei, one of the most evil people in History, is dead. This is not only Justice for the people of Iran, but for all Great Americans, and those people from many Countries throughout the World, that have been killed or mutilated by Khamenei and his gang of bloodthirsty THUGS,” Trump wrote.
Khamenei had led Iran since 1989, succeeding Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who took over the country as part of his Islamic Revolution in 1979. Over more than three decades in power, he oversaw major shifts in Iran’s domestic politics, military posture and regional strategy, moves that resulted in the Islamic Republic becoming the world’s leading exporter of terrorism through proxies such as Hamas and Hezbollah.

BREAKING: US and Israel Illegally Attack Iran
Minnah Arshad
Feb 28, 2026
President Donald Trump unilaterally declared war on Iran after launching a joint attack with Israel, thrusting the United States into a needless, illegal conflict that could endanger Americans and further destabilize the region.
The US-Israeli strikes have killed more than 200 people and injured more than 745 others across 24 provinces in Iran, the country’s Red Crescent told state TV.
Several missiles struck Iran’s capital Saturday morning near the offices of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Reuters reported, citing an unnamed official, that Khamenei is not in Tehran and has been transferred to a secure location. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi later said Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian are alive “as far as I know.”
Iranian state media, citing local authorities, reported that at least 57 people, including dozens of school children, were killed, and scores more were wounded in a strike that hit a girls’ school in Minab city in Iran’s southern Hormozgan province. Posting a photo of the school, Araghchi said on social media that “these crimes against the Iranian People will not go unanswered.”

In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), al-Khazalisaid:By the covenant of Allah, following the path of His noble Messenger and the guidance of the infallible Ahl al-Bayt, and adhering to the mission of Islam’s bearers in the era of occultation, the most courageous, virtuous, and pure-hearted leader, the victorious commander of the Muslims, Sayyed al-Khamenei — the crown jewel of the mujahideen and defender of the oppressed — ascended as a martyr and witness during the holy month, fasting, standing, and fighting the tyrants and oppressors of the earth, the enemies of Allah and humanity, including the agents of Zionism and global Freemasonry, the criminal terrorist Trump, and the brutal butcher Netanyahu, in a treacherous U.S.-Israeli aggression. Loud blasts heard in Kabul amid clashes between Afghanistan, Pakistan forces
By: Priyanka Kumari
Mar 1, 2026
Loud explosions followed by gunfire were heard across Afghanistan’s capital Kabul on Sunday morning, according to a Reuters journalist in the city, as fighting between Afghan Taliban forces and Pakistan intensified amid rapidly escalating cross-border hostilities.
The violence comes days after Afghanistan’s Taliban administration said it remained open to negotiations even as tensions with Pakistan spiralled into what Taliban officials described as an “open war” following Pakistani airstrikes targeting multiple Afghan cities.
Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said Pakistan carried out strikes in Kabul as well as Kandahar, the Taliban leadership’s stronghold, and several other locations. The attacks marked Islamabad’s first direct strikes against Afghanistan’s ruling establishment, accusing it of sheltering militants seeking to destabilise Pakistan’s government – a charge Kabul has repeatedly denied.
Mujahid said civilian casualties were reported in Friday’s strikes but did not provide specific figures. Witnesses in Kabul reported thick black smoke rising from at least two locations, while verified video footage showed a large blaze following the explosions. Ambulance sirens echoed through the city after the blasts, accompanied by the sound of aircraft overhead.

Afghanistan fires at Pakistani jets over Kabul as conflict intensifies
01.03.26
Afghanistan said it was firing at Pakistani jets in Kabul after blasts and gunfire rocked the capital on Sunday, compounding instability in a region rattled by US–Israeli strikes on Iran and retaliatory attacks on US targets in Gulf states.
The Taliban-ruled state has suffered Pakistani strikes against government installations over the past week following accusations, which it denies, that it harbours militants.
The heaviest fighting in years between the neighbours has raised fears of a protracted conflict along their 2,600-km (1,615-mile) border, with several countries including Qatar and Saudi Arabia calling for restraint and offering to help mediate a ceasefire.
Explosions echoed across parts of Kabul before sunrise, followed by bursts of gunfire, a Reuters witness said. It was not clear what had been targeted or whether there were casualties.

In rural southern Kandahar, construction workers said they were hit Sunday by two air strikes, which the manager of the site said killed three people.

Continuation of Afghan-Pak Tensions Destabilizes Region
March 1, 2026
Renewed tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan have once again raised serious concerns across the region. At a time when regional stability, economic cooperation, and connectivity are crucial for shared prosperity, continued escalation between two neighboring Muslim countries serves no constructive purpose. Instead, it risks undermining fragile progress and deepening mistrust. For this reason, countries in the region, especially Islamic nations, should actively support efforts to reduce tensions and promote dialogue.
Afghanistan and Pakistan are bound by geography, faith, culture, and long-standing social ties. Instability between them affects not only their governments but also millions of ordinary people whose livelihoods depend on cross-border trade and interaction. Prolonged confrontation weakens economic prospects, disrupts transport corridors, and creates uncertainty that can spread beyond their borders.
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has consistently stated that it does not seek war. Since 2021, the authorities in Kabul have emphasized sovereignty, security, and regional cooperation as central pillars of their policy. They maintain that Afghanistan’s security is closely connected to the stability of neighboring countries. In this perspective, peaceful coexistence and economic integration are preferable to confrontation.

Geopolitics Weekly (US-Israel Iran War, Afghanistan-Pakistan War, US Inflation)
By Zachary Fillingham
February 28, 2026
The US and Israel launched decapitation strikes targeting the Iranian leadership on February 28, dubbed ‘OPERATION EPIC FURY’ (sic) by the Pentagon, reportedly killing several senior IRGC commanders, Iran’s defense minister, and other officials in the first wave. Iran has since retaliated with a barrage of missile strikes against Israel and US military outposts across the region, notably in Bahrain, UAE, Jordan, and Kuwait.
This is the biggest foreign policy gambit of Trump’s presidency and there is a high likelihood of destabilizing spillover events. Some factors to consider:
History Repeating. The military operation was launched despite ‘significant progress’ being made in Oman-mediated negotiations and additional talks scheduled in the weeks ahead. This echoes the June 13 attacks, which came just days before a new round of nuclear talks was expected to commence. The element of surprise increases the odds of a successful ‘decapitation’ by catching targets outside of secure facilities engaged in daily routines. The ruse was highly effective in June, and early indications suggest it may have worked again.
Don’t Call It a War. The architects of this ‘major combat operation’ evidently do not envision a deployment of troops and instead expect Iranians to seize control amid the chaos. President Trump has been explicit on this, saying that the Iranian people’s ‘hour of freedom’ has arrived, urging them to take over their government ‘when we are finished.’ Benjamin Netanyahu struck a similar tone in his statement. But there’s a reason why past US administrations have backed up their regime change ambitions with expensive and politically fraught military deployments – the alternative doesn’t tend to work. An idealized contingency foresees regime collapse from within, and the state’s coercive apparatus gradually coming under popular control, affording the US and Israel a reliable ground-level proxy to work through. The more likely outcome, however, is an existential struggle between an armed though fractured regime and an unarmed populace. The bloody culmination of the latest protest wave in Iran represents a tragic i

He proposed that the appointment and removal of the Public Prosecutor be overseen by a bipartisan Parliamentary Select Committee with authority comparable to the Public Accounts Committee, including the power to summon the Public Prosecutor or Attorney General on matters of prosecution policy without affecting ongoing cases.

In Indonesia, non-Muslims join race to buy Ramadan bazaar snacks
Feb 28, 2026
JAKARTA – If anything can make Indonesians live up to the national motto of “unity in diversity”, it’s food.
This is never more so than during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, which even has its own set of culinary vocabulary.
There is ngabuburit, waiting for the time to break fast; bukber, short for bukabersama, referring to breaking fast together with friends or colleagues; and takjil, light snacks to break fast.
The snacks, which traditionally include dishes such as kolak (stewed bananas and sweet potatoes in coconut milk) and es campur (shaved ice with syrup), are meant to be a quick, sweet treat for Muslims who have refrained from eating over the last 12 hours or so.

In Damascus, a Ramadan storyteller keeps a fading tradition alive
2026/03/01
Damascus, March 1 (SANA) As night settles over the narrow stone alleys of Old Damascus, Al-Nofara Café begins to fill with families and regular patrons. Tea glasses clink, wooden chairs scrape across tiled floors, and anticipation builds for the arrival of the evening’s storyteller.
Dressed in traditional attire and seated on a raised wooden platform, the Hakawati lifts his voice above the hum of conversation. For the next hour, he blends history and legend, recounting tales of heroic warriors and epic battles drawn from centuries of Arab folklore. During Ramadan, this ritual takes on renewed energy, drawing audiences of all ages.
Al-Nofara, one of Damascus’s oldest coffeehouses, has hosted storytelling sessions for more than a century. Each night during the holy month, children sit cross-legged near the front while older listeners nod along, some quietly repeating familiar passages.

Iran's future must belong to its people, says Estonia's foreign minister
01-03-2026
The death of Iran's Ayatollah Khamenei, who was killed amid U.S.-Israeli strikes on Saturday, opens a window for the Iranian people to determine their own future, said Minister of Foreign Affairs Margus Tsahkna (Eesti 200).
On Sunday morning, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was confirmed to have been killed. He had led the country since 1989.
"For decades, the regime has ruled through fear, brutal repression, international destabilisation, including its nuclear and missile programme, and support for Russia's war against Ukraine. Iran's future must belong to its people, not a narrow ideological elite. Pressure must continue until aggression abroad and oppression at home end," Tsahkna wrote on X.

Fire Point Demonstrates FP-7 System: 200 km Ballistic Missile with 150 kg Warhead (Video)
Sofiia Syngaivska
February 28, 2026
Ukraine has publicly demonstrated the launch of its new FP-7 short-range ballistic missile, a system derived from the Soviet-era 48N6 interceptor used in russia's S-400 system
FP-7 missile was first announced in autumn 2025 and is presented as a short-range ballistic missile with a declared range of up to 200 kilometers. According to the developer, it carries a 150-kilogram warhead, can reach speeds of up to 1,500 meters per second (approximately 5,400 km/h), and climb to an altitude of 65 kilometers. The total flight time is stated to be around 250 seconds, with a claimed circular error probable of 14 meters.
Developers have openly acknowledged that FP-7 missile is based on Soviet-designed 48N6 missile used in russian S-400 system. While the overall aerodynamic layout and configuration were retained, the Ukrainian version reportedly features a composite body and entirely new internal components, including updated electronics and domestically developed solid fuel. Using a proven airframe concept appears intended to accelerate development timelines while reducing technical risk.

World Tourism Network Bangladesh Chapter Hosts Heartwarming Iftar for Orphaned Children
by Juergen T Steinmetz
March 1, 2026
The World Tourism Network Bangladesh Chapter hosted a special Ramadan Iftar at Hotel Agrabad in Chattogram for more than 100 orphaned children. Led by Dr. H. M. Hakim Ali, the initiative reflects WTN’s global commitment to social responsibility, compassion, and community engagement through tourism leadership.
Chattogram, Bangladesh – The World Tourism Network (WTN) continues to reaffirm its global commitment to social responsibility, placing special emphasis on supporting orphaned children through meaningful community initiatives.
In the sacred month of Ramadan—a time that embodies compassion, generosity, reflection, and unity—the WTN Bangladesh Chapter organized a heartfelt Iftar gathering for orphaned children on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Hotel Agrabad.
Iftar is the evening meal Muslims break their daily fast with at sunset during Ramadan. Throughout the holy month, observers fast from dawn until sunset, abstaining from food and drink as an act of spiritual discipline, gratitude, and empathy for those less fortunate. Iftar is therefore not only a meal, but also a moment of community, sharing, and compassion—often bringing families, friends, and communities together around one table.

Operation Epic Fury: How Trump-led US strikes in Tehran killed Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei, family
Mar 1, 2026
Operation Epic Fury -- an extensive US military action under President Donald Trump, have achieved its most consequential objective: the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in strikes carried out early Sunday against the political heart of Tehran.
According to initial reports, the operation did not only target Iran’s top leader. Khamenei’s daughter and grandchild were also said to be among those killed in the American strikes that hit key locations in the capital.
Unlike last year’s Operation Midnight Hammer, aimed at crippling Iran’s nuclear aspirations at key sites, Operation Epic Fury carried out in broad daylight with a much wider strategic objective, leading to the killing of the Supreme Leader.
The offensive marked a dramatic escalation, with Trump launching a full-scale military operation against Iran over the weekend. The move appeared aimed at dismantling the Khamenei-led political establishment and reshaping power dynamics in the oil-rich nation.

Suicide drones, Tomahawks & more: The weapons that powered US-Israel strikes on Iran
Mar 1, 2026
Operation Epic Fury, the coordinated American strikes on Iran orchestrated by Donald Trump, killed Tehran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Trump’s weekend military action in the Middle East involved a combination of missiles, stealth fighters and suicide drones targeting Iran’s high-profile military projects, while also relying on advanced air defences to protect US military bases across the region.
Benjamin Netanyahu-led Israel also partnered with the United States, deploying its full military muscle in the high-profile coordinated attacks against Khamenei-led Iran, with its Operation Lion's Roar.
The US secretary of war Pete Hegseth described the attack as "the most lethal, most complex, and most-precision aerial operation in history."
The United States on Saturday deployed a range of military assets against Iranian targets, including Tomahawk cruise missiles, stealth fighter jets and, for the first time in combat, low-cost one-way attack drones modelled after Iranian designs.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, yesterday warned that fake news and digital disinformation posed a grave threat to Nigeria’s moral foundation and long-term stability, urging citizens, especially the youth, to embrace verification and responsibility in the digital space.
Idris spoke in Kaduna at the 20th Joint Ramadan Lecture organised by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), and the Voice of Nigeria, describing the digital age as a defining moment for Nigeria’s unity and moral direction.
The lecture, held at Lumana Hall, Zamani College, Kaduna, had as its theme: ‘Digital Technology and the Moral Future: Navigating the Fitna of Our Time with Faith and Purpose.’
According to the minister, while digital technology had unlocked unprecedented opportunities for learning, enterprise, and innovation, it had also “unleashed forces that threaten our moral fabric,” with misinformation spreading faster than truth.

Emboldening Terrorism with Ransom Payments
01-03-2026
Though the federal government last week denied paying ransom to terrorists for the rescue of schoolchildren, security analysts believe that those who pay ransom are unwittingly sponsoring terrorism and banditry in Nigeria, Davidson Iriekpen writes
The federal government last week vehemently rejected the reports that it paid ransom or released militant commanders to secure the freedom of pupils and staff abducted from St Mary’s Catholic School, Papiri, Niger State.
About 300 students and 12 teachers were kidnapped by gunmen in the attack on November 21, 2025. While about 50 of them were said to have later escaped, others remained in the kidnappers’ den.

A major political ripple emerged in the South-South on Friday following what appeared to be a unanimous endorsement of the presidential ambition of former minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, by zonal leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) during a consultative meeting in Benin, Edo State.
Amaechi, who came second in the 2022 All Progressives Congress presidential primary that produced Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had visited the leaders to formally inform them of his decision to seek the ADC’s presidential ticket for the 2027 election.
The meeting, hosted at the residence of former party chairman John Odigie-Oyegun, was described as Amaechi’s deliberate move to begin his consultations from his geopolitical base.
According to the ADC National Vice Chairman (South-South), UsaniUguruUsani, Amaechi told the gathering that it was proper to start the race by meeting leaders from his home zone to seek their blessing before proceeding to other regions.
