ISIL Urges
Killing Citizens from the West
Sep 22,
2014
Baghdad:
Isil called on Muslims to kill citizens of Western countries taking part in the
US-led anti-Isil coalition by any means, in a statement posted online on
Monday.
“If you
can kill a disbelieving American or European — especially the spiteful and
filthy French — or an Australian, or a Canadian ... including the citizens of
the countries that entered into a coalition against Isil, then rely upon Allah,
and kill him,” said Abu Mohammad Al Adnani, the group’s spokesman, in a message
released in multiple languages.
“Kill
the disbeliever whether he is civilian or military,” he said.
Al
Adnani’s message — which was released in an Arabic audio recording, together
with transcripts in English, French and Hebrew — gave instructions on how the
killings could be carried out without military equipment.
“Smash
his head with a rock, or slaughter him with a knife, or run him over with your
car, or throw him down from a high place, or choke him, or poison him,” the Isil
spokesman said.
Al
Adnani also praised militants in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, calling on them to
“cut the throats” of those fighting for President Abdul Fattah Al Sissi.
“O
America, O allies of America, and O crusaders, know that the matter is more
dangerous than you have imagined and greater than you have envisioned,” he
said.
“We have
warned you that today we are in a new era, an era where Isil, its soldiers, and
its sons are leaders not slaves.”
The
United States and France are carrying out air strikes against Isil targets
across Iraq and are seeking to build an international coalition against a group
increasingly perceived as a global threat.
The
militants, who have declared a “caliphate” straddling Iraq and Syria, control
swathes of territory in both countries.
The
group is regarded as an extremely violent and powerful terrorist group. It has
executed hundreds of Iraqis and Syrians, as well as foreign hostages, and its
brutal campaign has forced more than a million from their homes.

Lebanese
Army Kills 50 Terrorists, Including Commanders
September
22, 2014
The
Lebanese army managed to kill dozens of terrorists in Arsal barrens in the last
three days, Lebanese daily as-Safir reported on Monday.
The
paper quoted well informed sources as saying that more than 50 terrorists
including their commanders were killed in the army campaign in Arsal barrens in
the last 72 hours. The sources noted there are aerial photos that confirm the
blow they had received, Al-Manar reported.
The army
also carried out an arrest campaign, according to the sources.
140
people were arrested; most of them are Syrians. 35 of these detainees confessed
their involvement in the fight against the army or preparing terrorist attacks
against the military institution, the paper said.
The army
decided to tighten the grip on all passages leading to Arsal barrens in order
to cut the supply route of the terrorists, especially the gas oil.
The sources
said that the army measures prompted the militants to stage IED attacks against
the army, noting that the military institution is taking this threat into
consideration as it will take precautionary measures and it will not be
blackmailed by the terrorists’ threats.

Iraq's
Attack Bombers Kill 45 ISIL Terrorists
September
22, 2014
Iraqi
attack bombers launched massive strikes against the positions of the ISIL
terrorists in Salahuddin province, killing scores of them.
A
military source said that 45 members of the Takfiri group lost their lives as
the Iraqi attack aircrafts bombarded their positrons in the Northern province
of Salahuddin, Anadolu news agency reported.
Iraq's
security forces also managed to break a siege by ISIL Takfiri militants on
hundreds of soldiers in an area of the Western province of al-Anbar.
"Iraqi
forces were able to liberate overnight as many as 400 troops who had been
surrounded by ISIL terrorists three days ago in the Sijir area near the city of
Fallujah, located roughly 69 kilometers (43 miles) West of Baghdad," Army
spokesman Lieutenant General Qassim al-Moussawi said on Sunday.
The
Iraqi military had launched a major operation against the ISIL militants in the
city of Fallujah earlier in the day.
Over the
past few weeks, Iraqi forces have killed a large number of the Takfiri
terrorists in their mop-up operations in the area.
The
Takfiri terrorists currently control parts of Syria and Iraq. They have
threatened all communities, including Shiites, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians, Ezadi
Kurds and others, as they continue their atrocities in Iraq.
Senior
Iraqi officials have blamed Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and some Persian Gulf Arab
states for the growing terrorism in their country.
The ISIL
has links with Saudi intelligence and is believed to be indirectly supported by
the Israeli regime.

Syria
air strikes kill 42, including 16 children: Monitor
September
22, 2014
Syrian
government air strikes killed at least 42 people, including 16 children, in
Idlib province in the northwest, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said
on Monday.
The air
raids on Sunday afternoon and evening killed 19 people, including six children,
outside the city of Saraqeb, and another 23 people, among them 10 children, in
the town of Ehsim, the monitoring group said.
The
province is largely under rebel control outside its capital, Idlib city.
The
strikes outside Saraqeb hit an area where civilians were sheltering after
fleeing repeated government air strikes on the city, the Observatory said.
Footage
of the aftermath of the attack in Ehsim posted on YouTube by activists showed
desperate civilians trying to dig out a man buried up to his neck in the rubble
of a collapsed building.
Another
video showed the lifeless body of a child, naked and covered in grey dust,
lying on top of shattered breeze blocks.
Young
men recovered the body and carried it away in a black shroud, shouting "God
is greater."

Four
Saudi men in ‘terror’ cell sentenced to death
Sep 22, 2014
Riyadh:
Four Saudi men have been sentenced to death for their role in one of the
kingdom’s “bloodiest terror cells”, official SPA news agency has reported.
The
agency said late Sunday that a special criminal court in Riyadh jailed “as many
as 20” others for between two and 23 years for a variety of crimes.
These
included embracing “deviant” thinking contrary to the Quran, a term usually
used in Saudi Arabia to refer to Al Qaida suspects.
The
defendants were also convicted of fighting abroad and purchasing five tonnes of
aluminium nitrate — which can be used to make explosives.
They
were also found guilty of booby-trapping vehicles to kill policemen, carrying
out suicide bombings inside the country, planning to explode oil pipelines and
killing foreigners as well as Islamic religious leaders, SPA said.
The
convicted were given 30 days to appeal the verdicts.
SPA did
not say when the offences occurred but the sentences are the latest in a series
since authorities in 2011 established specialised courts to try Saudis and
foreigners accused of belonging to Al Qaida or involvement in deadly attacks in
the kingdom from 2003-2006.
These
included assaults on housing compounds where foreigners lived, and led to a
crackdown.
Last
week, another court in Riyadh sentenced two men to death and jailed 13 others
for killing a policeman and forming an Al Qaida cell in prison, SPA reported

Hezbollah:
US Bombing Iraqi Army, Popular Forces' Positions Not ISIL
September
22, 2014
Iraq's
Hezbollah Battalions complained that US warplanes have intentionally bombarded
the positions of the Iraqi army and the volunteer forces in the Northern Babil
province for the second time in the last month on the pretext of targeting ISIL
strongholds.
"The
intentional bombing of armed forces and popular forces shows wicked intentions
of the US and the international cover-up of this attempt on the pretext of
fighting ISIL," an informed source from Iraq's Hezbollah Battalions told
the Arabic-language Al-Moslah news website.
"Had
the United States been honest in its claims, it would have targeted the ISIL
positions in Jorf Al-Sakhar, Faloujah, and other regions identified by us
instead of striking the Army and popular forces in Al-Awisat in Northern Babil
last Wednesday," the source said.
He
further said the US had used smart bombs and missiles in targeting the Iraqi
army and popular forces twice in the last one month, and stressed that this
could not have happened by mistake as the munitions used in the operations were
smart and equipped with hi-tech.
Hezbollah
called for the vigilance of the Iraqi people against the US double-standard
policies in Iraq.

Kurds
say they have halted Islamic State advance on Syrian town
September
22, 2014
Syrian
Kurdish fighters have halted an advance by Islamic State fighters to the east
of a predominantly Kurdish town near the border with Turkey, a spokesman for
the main armed Kurdish group said.
"Fierce
clashes are still under way but the ISIS (Islamic State) advance to the east of
Kobani has been halted since last night," Redur Xelil, spokesman for the
main Kurdish armed group, the YPG, said via Skype.
He said
the eastern front was the scene of the fiercest fighting in the offensive
launched by Islamic State last Tuesday on Kobani, also known in Arabic as Ayn
al-Arab. More than 100,000 Syrian Kurds, driven by fear of Islamic State, have
fled its advance, many crossing the border into Turkey.

Exporting
Suicide Bombers Instead Of Poets
September
22, 2014
Few days
ago, there were reports that there were vacancies for expatriates to work as
“poets”. The announcement, which attracted a lot of controversy, was made by no
one else other than the Ministry of Labour itself.
The
ministry refuses to open expatriate recruitment for a number of jobs that are
not favoured by Saudis and opens the door for people from abroad to work as
poets. It is as if the ministry does not know the majority of the Saudi people
are poets.
The
ministry's reply to this news was not convincing. It said the job was opened
with the art production companies in mind.
It is
incomprehensible that we will change from a country that exports poets to a
country that imports them. What can an expatriate poet do in a country that is
overflowing with poets?
Anyway,
I have always believed that the Saudis excel particularly in writing poetry.
This is not only a profession for them, but also a hobby.

ISIS
reverts smoking ban in Kirkuk 'to gain popularity'
22
September 2014
Residents
of Iraq's Kirkuk said the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has backed
down from its decision to ban smoking and has thus allowed selling cigarettes
in areas it controls south and west of the province, Almada Press reported
Saturday.
Abdulrahman
al-Gabouri, a resident of Hawija, 55 kilometers southwest of Kirkuk, told
Almada Press that ISIS has now allowed shops to sell cigarettes in the province
and its towns.
The
decision came as an attempt to gain popularity after the group’s extremist
actions began to appall residents particularly after security forces, aided by
international support, began to attack ISIS, the report added.
Gabouri
added that ISIS forces, which have rapidly advanced over the past few months
seizing swathes of Iraq and Syria, used to confiscate and destroy cigarettes by
crushing them under the Hummer vehicles they seized from Iraqi security forces.
Suleiman
Mokhlef Abd al-Gumayli, another Hawija resident, told Almada Press that ISIS
fighters confiscated huge amounts of cigarettes weeks ago and informed shop
owners they were not allowed to sell cigarettes as per a fatwa (religious
edict) issued by the organization’s court and which stipulated banning
cigarettes and lashing anyone who violated this rule.

British IS
Recruits Routinely Rape Hostages as Young as Nine, Says Whistleblower
Sep 22,
2014
Islamic
State fighters routinely rape girls as young as nine held hostage at the terror
group's training camps, it has been claimed.
A
purported former IS member turned whistleblower says all the group's fighters
are told it is their God-given right to rape non-Muslim prisoners.
He
claimed that those preparing to sacrifice themselves on suicide missions are
particularly encouraged to subject prisoners to depraved sexual ordeals, and
that many of those would-be martyrs are British.
'I saw
many foreign recruits who were put in the suicide squads not because they were
"great and God wanted it" as IS commanders praised them in front of
us, but basically because they were useless for IS,' said the whistleblower,
calling himself Sherko Omer.
'They
spoke no Arabic; they weren’t good fighters and had no professional skills.
They were brainwashed into the “women in heaven” and those they could rape on
earth before they eventually killed themselves.'

Child
Warriors, Leave Germany for Jihad
Sep 22,
2014
Children
as young as 13 are travelling from Germany to Syria and Iraq to join Islamic
jihadists, according to German intelligence agencies.
Hans-Georg
Maaßen, head of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution
(BfV), told the Rheinische Post at the weekend that at least 24 children had headed
to the Middle East from Germany. “The youngest was 13,” he said.
Of the
24 who have left, five children have returned with battle fighting experience,
Maaßen said.
Among
the 24, there were also four girls who, according to Maaßen, travelled with a “romantic
ideal of marrying a jihadist.”
They
married fighters who they met online, the BfV head added.
Around
400 Germans have joined jihadists in Iraq and Syria, security services believe.
The
majority are young, male and poorly educated and around 130 have returned.
Maaßen
said none of the child fighters who have returned were previously known to
police. They only became aware of them when their parents reported them missing
or when foreign intelligence agencies contacted the BfV.
“The
vast majority are from migration backgrounds,” Maaßen added. Many failed at
school or didn’t get on with their family.

Tony
Blair: West must fight not only ISIS, but its ideology
Sep 22, 2014
(CNN) --
When Tony Blair heard British aid worker David Haines mention the former prime
minister prior to his beheading, it strengthened his resolve to fight ISIS, he
said Sunday.
"It
makes me even more determined to take these people on and beat them,"
Blair said in an interview on CNN's "State of the Union."
Before
his execution this month, Haines directed a message at British Prime Minister
David Cameron, saying, "You entered voluntarily into a coalition with the
United States against the Islamic State, just as your predecessor, Tony Blair,
did, following a trend amongst our British Prime Ministers who can't find the
courage to say no to the Americans."
It's not
clear whether Haines' comments were voluntary or were coerced by his captors.
In his
Sunday interview, Blair said he felt President Barack Obama is "absolutely
right to take on ISIS and build the broadest possible coalition."

IS
Militants Are 'Gangsters' Who Hijack Islam, Anonymous Says
Sep 22, 2014
The
“hacktivist” group Anonymous has launched a social media campaign against
Islamic State militants, telling FRANCE 24 that Operation Ice ISIS aims to
“protect those who are defenceless, both in the cyber world and the real
world”.
Wearing
the group’s trademark Guy Fawkes mask and with his voice digitally disguised,
one member of the loosely coordinated network of activists explained the
reasons behind the social media campaign to FRANCE 24's "Tech 24"
programme.
He said
that by launching Operation Ice ISIS, Anonymous wanted to underscore the
seriousness of the threat posed by Islamic State militants (also known as ISIL
or ISIS) as well as make it clear that the jihadist group does not represent –
nor uphold – the values of the Muslim faith.
“We took
this initiative in order to establish two things,” he said. “One: We needed the
public to understand how urgent the situation is in Iraq. Before the mainstream
media took serious direction in reporting the ISIS threat, we were one of the
first to communicate it to the masses via the video we uploaded on YouTube in
June explaining how and why ISIS came to be. We also made it clear that the
United States was not free of blame as it has, directly and indirectly,
contributed to the crisis we see today.”
“The
second reason was that we needed to make sure the public knew that ISIS did not
represent the Islamic religion. Time and time again, we’ve seen confusion and
hatred when news of any group that had called itself ‘Islamic’ surfaced. We
were determined not to let that happen again. Muslims and Christians alike have
been victims of this tragedy and we were prepared to answer questions and
address any concerns that had to deal with this topic.”

Promoters
in the U.S. are reportedly reluctant to promote British-Muslim boxer Amir Khan
ahead of a high-profile fight in light of the Islamophobia that ensued the
Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) beheadings, the Independent reported.
The
British boxer is high on Floyd Mayweather’s options to be an opponent in a

the British daily that there is a reluctance to promote Khan due to his faith.
“Any

“There
is so much Islamophobia around here following the hostage killings that it

DUBAI -
Iran and Saudi Arabia held their first foreign minister-level meeting since the
2013 election of President Hassan Rouhani, official Iranian media reported,
signalling a possible thaw in chilly ties between the rival Gulf powers.
Shi'ite
Muslim Iran and the conservative Sunni kingdom have been engaged in a bitter

Foreign

Turkish
hostages in Iraq released after 'diplomatic negotiations': Erdogan
Sep 22,
2014
President
Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Sunday dozens of Turkish hostages held by Islamic
State militants in Iraq had been freed as a result of negotiations and no
ransom had been paid for their release.
"There
was no bargain for money at all, but only diplomatic and political
negotiations. And this is a diplomatic victory," Erdogan told reporters at
Ankara's Esenboga Airport before departing for New York for a UN General
Assembly meeting.
Forty-six
Turks seized from the Turkish consulate in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul
were freed and returned to Turkey on Saturday, in what Erdogan described as a
"secret operation" by the Turkey's spy agency.

130,000
Syrians flood into Turkey fleeing jihadists
September
22, 2014
Turkey
said Monday that some 130,000 people had flooded across its border from Syria
fleeing an advance by Islamic State group jihadists on a strategic Kurdish
border town.
The
massive influx comes as jihadists advance towards Ain al-Arab, known as Kobane
to the Kurds, Syria's third-largest Kurdish town.
They
have seized dozens of villages in their advance and there have been reports of
executions in areas now under their control.
Syrian
opposition officials and Kurdish activists have called for international
intervention by the US-led coalition assembled to fight IS, but there has been
no sign yet of Washington expanding its air campaign in Iraq to Syria.

Inestigations

recruit Indian youths has revealed the presence of at least two Indian-origin
recruiters on the Internet luring youths on behalf of the Islamic State in Iraq
and Syria (ISIS or IS) and al-Qaeda, and working in collaboration with each

based on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border and associated with the Ansar
ul-Tawhid ul-Hind has emerged as a common al-Qaeda-linked recruiter in both the
Jaipur and Hyderabad investigations.
Besides,
a former SIMI man from Karnataka currently said to be based in the Gulf region

Shiv
Sena to Muslims: Don't Let Down Narendra Modi
IANS |
Sep 22, 2014
MUMBAI:
The Shiv Sena on Monday urged Indian Muslims "not to let down" Prime
Minister Narendra Modi after he praised the community for its patriotism and
love for the country in an interview.
"Modi
has lauded Indian Muslims for their patriotism...He has initiated a new chapter
by giving a guarantee of the community's love for its motherland. Now, Muslims
must not let him down," Shiv Sena said in an editorial in the party
mouthpiece 'Saamana'.
Frowning
on Hindu hardliners, it said that by making this statement, Modi has not
diluted his staunch Hindutva ideology.
"Modi
is the Prime Minister of the country and of all communities and people...But,
he has been always painted as 'anti-Muslim' by pseudo-secularists of the
country," it pointed out.
The
editorial said the entire minority community cannot be held responsible for the
misdeeds of a handful of Muslims indulging in terror activities.
It
recalled "the tough but fair Hindutva" propounded by the Shiv Sena
patriarch and founder late Bal Thackeray.

Indian
Sufis Welcome Statement by PM Modi on Al-Zawahiri
Sep 22,
2014
The All
India Ulema and Mashaikh Board (AIUMB) has welcomed cautiously the statement of
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who said in an interview on Friday, September 19,
that he was confident the Al Qaida conspiracy to establish a South Asia wing,
i.e. through Qaedat Al-Jihad, will fail in India, as Indian Muslims would never
dance to the tune of and never accept the philosophy of the terror group.
Maulana
Syed Mohammad Ashraf Kichhowchhawi said in a statement released from the
central office of AIUMB that in an interview with CNN's Fareed Zakaria, Prime
Minister Modi said rightly that the terror groups do not target a community but
humanity as a whole.
Kichhowchhawi
said that for the first time the present head of government has said on an
international news channel that the patriotism of Indian Muslims is above
question. "An Indian Muslim will live and die for his country;" this
statement by Modi vindicates the stand taken by AIUMB, that a huge population
of Indian Muslims is Sufi in practice and profession, and have refused flatly
to accept this foreign, infamous, intolerant ideology represented by ISIS, Al
Qaida, Boko Haram, the Muslim Brotherhood, and others working for the same
ideology under several names and styles.

Demons

AHMEDABAD:
Just four days before Navratri, great unease has begun developing around the
festive mood. Sufi Imam Mehndi Hussain — famous for having his offer of a
skullcap rebuffed by Narendra Modi in 2011 — has said that the Garba has been

Living in
India For Over Two Decades, Afghan Hindus, Sikhs Seek Citizenship
TNN |
Sep 22, 2014
AMRITSAR:
Afghan Hindus and Sikhs living in India have urged the Narendra Modi government
to grant them Indian citizenship, so that their children don't have to live
with uncertainty. They have also sought help from SAD (B) and Shiromani Gurudwara
Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to use its influence on NDA government in securing
citizenship for them.
"Over
two decades ago, around 25,000 Afghan Sikhs and Hindus had migrated to India from
Afghanistan and settled in Delhi and Faridabad. A few of them got citizenship,
but around 18,000 of them are still awaiting citizenship," member, Khalsa

After
the rise of Taliban, the minuscule Hindu and Sikh communities of Afghanistan,
spread across cities of Kabul, Zalalabad, Ghazni and Kandhar, were subjected to

Air

September

ISLAMABAD:
At least 23 suspected terrorists were killed on Monday in precise aerial
strikes on terrorists hideouts in the Bangidar area of Ghulam Khan in North
Waziristan Agency, said a statement issued by the Inter Services Public
Relations (ISPR). However, this information could not be independently verified
as the access of media is restricted in the region.
Military
operation Zarb-i-Azb was launched by the Pakistan Army on June 15 following a
brazen militant attack on Karachi's international airport and failure of peace
talks between the government and Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) negotiators.
The
Taliban and their ethnic Uzbek allies both claimed responsibility for the
attack on Karachi airport, which was seen as a strategic turning point in how
Pakistan tackles the insurgency.
Nearly a
million people have fled the offensive in North Waziristan, which is aimed at
wiping out longstanding militant strongholds in the area, which borders
Afghanistan.
North
Waziristan has been isolated by deploying troops along its border with neighboring
agencies and Federally Administrative Tribal Areas (Fata) regions to block any
move of terrorists in and out of the Agency.

Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Dr Tahirul Qadri on Sunday reiterated that the
sitting regime is about to end soon as a system based on injustice and
brutality is destined to die.
Addressing
to party workers at sit-in at Constitutional Avenue, Dr Qadri dubbed the rulers
the most cruel by unleashing the reign of terror on the people of the country.
“They are bound to meet their fate soon and it will you that will lead them to
perish”, Qadri asked his supporters. Lambasting the present rulers in center

it is actually monarchy of a family which is calling the shots.
“We want
to bring the real democracy that would be like the one in the development
world” he said by referring to USA where eight governors of various states were
shown the door on the allegation of corruption. Here, he pointed out innocent
people were killed ruthlessly and no one showed the moral character to resign
despite the fact that judicial commission formed to probe into Lahore Model
Town incident pointed fingers at the sitting rulers of Punjab.
Dr Qadri
termed the current democracy in the country even inferior to Africa nations

Chinese
Militants Fled China to Get ‘Terrorist Training’ From IS, Says Media
September
22, 2014
BEIJING,
Sept 22 — Chinese militants from the western region of Xinjiang have fled from
the country to get “terrorist training” from Islamic State fighters for attacks
at home, state media reported today.
The
report was the first time state-run media had linked militants from Xinjiang,
home to ethnic minority Uighur Muslims, to militants of the Islamic State (IS),
a radical Sunni Muslim group which has seized large parts of Syria and Iraq.
China’s
government has blamed a surge of violence over the past year on Islamist
militants from Xinjiang who China says are fighting for an independent state
called East Turkestan.
“They
not only want to get training in terrorist techniques, but also to expand their
connections in international terrorist organisations through actual combat to
gain support for escalation of terrorist activities in China,” the Global Times
cited an unidentified Chinese “anti-terrorism worker” as saying.
In the
latest violence in Xinjiang, state media said two people were killed and
several injured in at least three explosions yesterday.
The
Global Times, which is run by the Communist Party mouthpiece, the People’s
Daily, said militants from Xinjiang had recently been involved in IS activities
in Syria andIraq as well as with IS “branches” in Southeast Asia.

Taliban
reject Afghan unity government pact as US 'sham'
September
22, 2014
Afghanistan's
Taliban militants on Monday decried a pact by rival election candidates to form
a government of national unity as a "sham" orchestrated by the United
States and unacceptable to the Afghan people.
Former
finance minister Ashraf Ghani was named president-elect on Sunday after he
signed a deal to share power with his opponent, former foreign minister
Abdullah Abdullah, ending months of turmoil that has destabilised the country
as most foreign troops prepare to leave.
Ghani's
administration must now not only forge an effective government after so much
acrimony, but also deal with an emboldened Taliban insurgency, with little, if
any, help from foreign forces.
Ghani
was scheduled to hold his first news briefing as president-elect later Monday.
The
Taliban have been fighting to oust US-led foreign forces and their spokesman,
Zabihullah Mujahid, rejected the national unity government pact as a ploy
orchestrated by their enemy.
"Installing
Ashraf Ghani and forming a bogus administration will never be acceptable to the
Afghans," Mujahid said in a statement emailed to journalists.

Coming
Soon in Aceh: Shariah Law for Non-Muslims
September

Banda
Aceh. Citing the need to end discrimination, Aceh lawmakers plan to pass a
bylaw this week that would impose a Shariah-based criminal code on Muslims and
non-Muslims alike, with offenders facing lengthy caning sessions or jail terms
for acts that are perfectly legal elsewhere in Indonesia.
Moharriadi
Syafari, the secretary of Commission G of the Aceh Legislative Council (DPRA),
which oversees the religious affairs, culture and tourism, said the council
planned to pass the bylaw during its plenary meeting this week.
A draft
of the local criminal code known as Qanun Jinayat obtained by the Jakarta Globe
includes a clause that stipulates that a non-Muslim caught violating Shariah
law would be given the option of being tried at the Shariah court or at a
regular court, based on the national criminal code (KUHP).
However,
if the act is considered a crime under Shariah but not under the KUHP, even non-Muslim
violators would be tried based on the regulations stipulated in the Qanun
Jinayat.
The
maximum punishments under the Shariah-based code are 200 strokes of the cane, a
fine worth the price of two kilograms of gold or 200 months in jail.

Malaysian
militants for Isis recruited through social media, says source

The
Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (Isis) forces have mastered social media as
their main recruitment tool, enlisting fighters from around the world,
including some 40 Malaysians, a local intelligence source said.
A senior
Malaysian intelligence official told The Malaysian Insider that social media is
the militant group's main channel to recruit Malaysians, “unlike the early
2000s where a lot of recruitment was done through religious schools”.
Many of
the 40-odd Malaysians currently fighting alongside Isis forces in the Middle

said, adding that the method could spur others to also join the cause.
Malaysia
has arrested 19 militants linked to Isis and is searching for at least five

Islamic

The
Religious Affairs Ministry’s Islamic Schools Directorate has withdrawn a
teachers’ handbook on Islamic Cultural History (SKI) for seventh-grade students
of Islamic junior high schools following protests from the community.
The
handbook, published by the ministry this year, contains the phrase “today’s
idolatry includes the graveyard of the wali [holy preachers who contributed to
the early development of Islam in Indonesia]”.
The
phrase has been considered offensive to some Muslims who practice pilgrimage to
the graves of the holy preachers.
Nur

The

Najib

September

Datuk
Seri Najib Razak should denounce the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (Isis)
militants in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Friday, given
that he had previously urged Umno to emulate the "brave exploits" of
the movement, DAP said today.
DAP
adviser Lim Kit Siang listed three reasons the prime minister should
"unambiguously and unconditionally" denounce Isis, which comprises of
Sunni fighters who want to establish an
Islamic caliphate in Iraq and Syria.
"First,
because his first reference to Isil/Isis was quite laudatory, exhorting Umno to
emulate what he described as their 'brave exploits' to ensure the party’s
survival," Lim said in a statement today.
In June,
Najib courted controversy when he told Umno to emulate the bravery of the Isis
militants if the Malay nationalist party wanted to survive.
He told
more than 1,000 Umno members during a dinner that the militant group had
defeated an Iraqi army which outnumbered it nearly 30 to one.
"For
example, when someone dares to fight to his death, he can even defeat a much
bigger team," he had said.

Australia
Returning
Aussie jihadists get jail, says PM Abbott
SEPTEMBER
22, 2014
SYDNEY,
Sept 22 — Prime Minister Tony Abbott today warned Australians fighting with
extremists in the Middle East they face lengthy jail terms if they return home
as the government tightens counter-terrorism laws.
“My
unambiguous message to all Australians who fight with terrorist groups is that
you will be arrested, prosecuted and jailed for a very long time,” Abbott told
parliament in a statement on national security.
Australia
is targeting domestic extremists as well as citizens who fight overseas with
violent jihadist groups in Syria and Iraq before returning home.
“Our
laws are being changed to make it easier to keep potential terrorists off our
streets,” Abbott said after the biggest security crackdown in Australian
history last Thursday saw more than 800 police officers raid some 30 homes.

A
Facebook page, ‘Islamophobia Register Australia’, after counter terror raids
Sep 22, 2014
A
Facebook page has been created for users to report incidents of 'Islamophobia'
and anti-Muslim sentiments as the Muslim community fears backlash after the
counter-terror raids that took place on Thursday morning.
'Islamophobia
Register Australia' was created on Facebook just two days before Australia
experienced the largest counter-terrorism operation in the country's history.
The
operation saw 800 police officers carry out 25 search warrants across Sydney's
north-west and in three Brisbane suburbs.
Following
the raids, stories of police brutality against women and children emerged which
prompted the Islamic political party Hizb-ut-Tahrir to organise protests
defending their rights as Islamic Australians.
It
appears the Facebook page is run by members of the Muslim community who have
reacted to the counter-terror raids and fear for innocent Islamic people who
face mistreatment in Australia.

Australia's
most senior IS member 'loved cocaine', found Islam after history of abuse,
mental illness
Sep 22,
2014
The
alleged ringleader of the foiled plot to execute a random Australian was a
drug-abusing brothel tout with underworld connections who found radical Islam
after years of physical abuse and mental illness, an investigation by the ABC's
7.30 program has revealed.
Mohammad
Ali Baryalei is Australia's most senior Islamic State leader and has recruited
scores of Australians onto the battlefields of Syria and Iraq.
The
33-year-old from Sydney was the catalyst for last Thursday's unprecedented
counter-terrorism raids, when more than 800 police raided homes in Sydney and
Brisbane and charged four people.
The
raids were sparked when authorities allegedly intercepted a phone call from
Baryalei, ordering Sydney man Omarjan Azari, 22, to kidnap and execute "a
random kufr", or non-believer, on camera.
Police
say the executions were just days from being carried out in Sydney and Brisbane
in the style of the IS beheadings of western hostages James Foley, Steven
Sotloff and David Haines in Syria.

Turkey
must be partner in anti-ISIL coalition: Pentagon
September
22, 2014
Turkey
must be a partner in the coalition against the Islamic State in Iraq and the
Levant (ISIL), Pentagon Spokesman John Kirby has said, underlining the
geographical importance of the country.
“Whether
they contribute militarily is up to them. We did not go to Ankara with a
specific request. We did go to solicit their views in the situation, and to
find out what was possible for them. They offered some views of things that
they might be able to do that could be helpful,” Kirby told daily Hürriyet.
“Let
them speak for that. But we know just by dint of geography that Turkey is, will
be, and must be a partner in this effort,” he added, suggesting that the
campaign would not solely be a military one.

Western
authorities: ISIS group an online threat
22
September 2014
The
latest issue of the digital magazine “Dabiq” features glossy photos of smiling
militants from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group, mutilated
bodies on the battlefield and articles with titles such as, “There is No Life
Without Jihad” and “Foley’s Blood is on Obama’s Hands.”
It
refers to Americans as “crusaders” and “apostates.” And it insists “sincere
Muslims” must help speed “the complete collapse of the modern American empire.”
Authorities
say the magazine - published in English and other languages and easily
available on the internet - has become a potent propaganda tool for the group
to recruit Westerners. They also warn that the publication, along with other
inflammatory messages and videos on Twitter and other social media, have the
power to incite so-called “lone wolves” who hatch domestic plots such as the
ones officials have alleged recently in Australia and upstate New York.

US
expects not to go alone in Syria air strikes: Ambassador
September
22, 2014
US
Ambassador Samatha Power predicted Sunday that the United States would not be alone
if it launches air strikes against Islamic State jihadists in Syria, although
she said no decisions have been reached yet.
The US
envoy to the United Nations' comments came as the United States puts together
an international coalition to fight the IS group, which has seized large areas
of Syria and Iraq in a bloody drive that has included beheadings of western
hostages.
France
has joined the United States in air strikes against the group in Iraq, but the
IS strongholds in Syria have so far been spared.
"The
president has said we're not going to allow ISIL to have safe haven in Syria,
but no decisions have been made in terms of how we're going to proceed in
that," she said on CBS's Face the Nation, using an alternate acroynym for
the group.

Security
Agencies Probing Whether Boko Haram's Shekau Killed
September
22, 2014
Nigerian
security agencies are reviewing information that Abubakar Shekau, the leader of
the Boko Haram Islamist militant group, may have been killed in a battle with
the military, a person familiar with the investigation was quoted as saying by
Bloomberg at the weekend.
Shekau
may have been killed in the fighting near Konduga in Borno State, according to
a security official who asked not to be identified because an official
statement had not been made by the government.
The
Nigerian armed forces last week said in a Twitter posting that over 60 Boko
Haram militants had been killed and a senior Boko Haram leader had been
captured in the battle at Konduga, a strategic town 40 kilometres away from
Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
The
leader, who wasn't identified by the armed forces, was being treated at a
military hospital, the statement added.

Nigerian
Government, Red Cross in Secret Talks With Boko Haram Over Chibok Girls
September
22, 2014
Despite
the Nigerian government's public rejection of any prisoner swap with extremist
Boko Haram sect, its officials, alongside the Red Cross, are currently in talks
to trade Boko Haram militants for more than 200 Chibok schoolgirls abducted by
the sect in April, the U.K. Telegraph reported Friday.
The
report said Red Cross officials have held secret negotiations with top Boko
Haram leaders held in Nigeria's maximum security prisons and a list of 16
senior commanders the sect wants freed in exchange for the girls, has been
drawn up.
Boko
Haram insurgents kidnapped over 200 girls from their school dormitory in Chibok
on 14 April.
The
abductions alarmed the world triggering massive campaign to secure their
freedom with the United States, United Kingdom and France and other countries
offering technical support.
The
efforts have remained futile more than five months after as the girls remain in
captivity.
Boko
Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, threatened to sell some into slavery and marry
others off.

Benghazi
mourns as yet another high-profile activist is slain in the city
September
22, 2014
Benghazi
has been in mourning today following the killing of prominent 18-year-old blogger and activist Tawfiq Bensaud
and his 17-year-old friend, also an activist, Sami Al-Kwafi.
The
shock killings of the young men stood out in one of the bloodiest days in the
city in recent memory as extremists orchestrated a city-wide campaign to instil
fear in Benghazi residents. Thirteen individuals were targeted and ten of them
were killed yesterday.
Bensaud
and Kwafi were murdered as they returned home with a friend at around midnight
last night. The planned and synchronised attack saw Bensaud’s car approached by
three cars from three different directions, blocking the young men’s escape.
Shots
were fired from all three cars, and both Bensaud and Kwaif’s bodies were found
with gunshots wounds to the head when they were retrieved, medical sources told
the Libya Herald. Miraculously the third member of the group survived the
attack unscathed.
Libyan
Youth Voices, an online youth forum has led the tributes to the two slain
activists describing them as “giants in
Libya’s nascent civil society” and their loss as “devastating”.
In the
last year a number of Benghazi’s leading lights and activists have been
mercilessly gunned down. Muftah Buzeid and Salwa Bugaighis were among them.
