International Union for Muslim Scholars Say Arab States Alliances With Israel ‘Forbidden

News Service

November 27, 2021

The International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS) on Saturday said it considered alliances between some Arab states and Israel as “forbidden”.

The Union affirms that what some countries, such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Morocco, have committed to indulging in alliances and practical steps with the occupying Zionist entity is a condemned and forbidden act," the IUMS said in a statement.

Last week, Morocco signed defense agreements with Israel during a visit by Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz to the North African country.

Gantz and his counterpart Abdellatif Loudiyi agreed on military cooperation and signed a "pioneering defense memorandum of understanding” as well as Morocco’s purchase of Israeli drones and "advanced weapons" systems.

Israel has also concluded several agreements with the UAE in various fields since the signing of an agreement to normalize relations between the two sides in Washington in mid-September 2020.

The IUMS affirmed its permanent support for Palestine, Jerusalem, and Al-Aqsa Mosque and noted that normalization with Israel is forbidden and represents a "betrayal" of the Palestinian cause.

On Dec. 10, 2020, Israel and Morocco announced the resumption of diplomatic relations that were suspended in 2002, making Morocco the fourth Arab country to normalize relations with Israel in 2020 after the UAE, Bahrain, and Sudan.

Pakistan Supreme Court Sounds Alarm Over Child Pornography, Calls It The Most Alarming Social Evil

Federal authorities released this sanitized screen grab of an underground child pornography website that was run on The Onion Router or Tor network. Agents dismantled the child exploitation ring and arrested 14 men. (ICE)

November 28, 2021

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Saturday deplored that the most alarming social evil is child pornography that has wreaked havoc and poses a great threat to morality as well as the future of children.

“One of the reasons for the rise of child abuse/rape cases is squarely child pornographic content,” regretted Justice Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi in a judgement he wrote.

A two-judge Supreme Court bench comprising Justice Maqbool Baqar and Justice Naqvi had taken up an appeal of Umer Khan against the rejection of his bail application by the Peshawar High Court. The petitioner had sought post-arrest bail in a case registered against him under Section 22(1) of Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016 at a cyber crime reporting centre in Abbottabad.

Khan faces charges of sharing child pornographic content on social networking website Facebook. On receiving information from the website, the matter was inquired into by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and subsequently a first information report was registered and the petitioner arrested.

In his judgement, Justice Naqvi observed that there are concerns regarding child sexual abuse and exploitation in the past too, but due to various factors, the gravity and impact of the offence of child pornography is increasing at an alarming rate and this menace needs to be curbed with an iron fist.

Although the offence the petitioner had been charged with did not fall into the prohibitory clause of Section 497 of CrPC and the maximum punishment for the same is seven years, the nature of the accusation, its impact on society and the material collected so far merit the case to be included within the exception of granting bail when the offence falls within the non-prohibitory clause, the judgement explained.

It regretted that it is yet to be determined since when was the petitioner involved in spreading child pornography and how many videos he had shared so far. In any case, it added, it is a crime to “hollow out society”, therefore, the argument of the petitioner’s counsel was of no help. Even otherwise, this petition is barred by three days and no plausible explanation for the condonation of the delay has been given, the judgement said.

Consequently, the court dismissed the appeal with a directive to the trial court to proceed expeditiously and conclude the case as early as possible.

Wuriyanga Mud Mosque And Mystery Tree Beside The Mosque ; 200 Years Old But Still Standing For Allah

An aerial view of the ancient Wuriyanga mud mosque

-----

Nov - 27 - 2021

Wuriyanga, a farming community in the Tempane District in the Upper East Region, is arguably one of the unique communities in the country. This is because it is home to an ancient mud mosque built about 200 years ago and a tall mysterious tree beside the mosque as old as the structure itself.

Although no specific date has been given or recorded, it is believed two centuries ago, an Islamic Leader and a Mossi by tribe, Imam Shehu Ahmed, who built the mud mosque, migrated from Burkina Faso and settled in the community.

He built the mosque purposely to help propagate the Islamic religion and to ensure that the teachings of the Quran was effectively spread among the people. But prior to its completion, the Islamic leader held teachings for the congregation in the open under a scorching sun as there was no tree or shelter to provide shade for the people.

According to oral history, as narrated by a member of the Maintenance Committee of the ancient mosque, Mr Mohammed Imam Hamid, the Islamic Leader, Imam Ahmed, had a walking stick believed to be about 25 years old.

According to the narrator (Hamid), one day, the Islamic leader planted his walking stick in the ground and prayed to Allah for it to grow into a tree to provide a shade for the congregation pending the completion of the mud mosque.

Based on his faith in Allah, the Islamic leader started watering the walking stick. To the surprise of many people in the community, the walking stick started growing into a tall tree beside the mosque, which provided the needed shade for the congregation.

Till date, no one is allowed to prune the tree because the narrator explained that the tree had been shedding off its leaves, as well as its weak branches on its own. All the successors to the Islamic leader have over the years ensured that the tree is never cut down.

“No one has ever touched this tree because it prunes itself; and that is the walking stick of Imam Ahmed, the first person to build this ancient mosque,” the narrator further stated.

The current Imam of the mosque, Alhaji Shaban Sheikh Ahmed, and his Deputy, Alhaji Mahamud Sheikh Osman, both octogenarians, shared their experiences with the Daily Graphic.

They, however, stated that they were both born in the community and grew up to see the mosque already built. They said that there were five late Imams who were in charge of the mosque leading prayers.

Alhaji Ahmed further said “we grew up and saw this great mosque and we the current Imams are about 85 years old now; we can only testify to what we have seen and our forebears have done well to maintain this ancient mosque for posterity."

They indicated that there was no literature on the ancient mud mosque except the oral history and stories they were told by their ancestors from generation to generation.

The two Imams and the maintenance committee member all acknowledged that “anybody who comes to this ancient mud mosque with very sincere intention to pray gets whatever he or she wants in life from Allah."

While they were narrating the spiritual significance of visiting the mud mosque, the maintenance committee member brought out some ancient parts of the mosque. They included a white cloth neatly folded and put into a small bag.

The white cloth is used for spiritual prayers which the Imams believe brings rapid results. The two Imams also brought out some old pictures of their forefathers who were Imams and are dead.

Interestingly, three things immediately stand out when you see the Wuriyanga mud Mosque: it is not whitewashed, it only has one tower, and it has no exterior buttresses. There is also no stairwell leading to the roof.

Instead, an opening in the parapet on the west side allows a ladder to be used for roof access. There are also old aluminium roofing sheets tucked into the roofline to ensure that rain water from the roof does not damage the walls. In other places with similar building styles, ceramic pipes are rather used for that purpose.

Like other mosques in the Northern and Savannah regions of Ghana, the Wuriyanga Mosque is built in the traditional Djenné architectural style, using local materials and construction techniques.

Djenné is a town and an urban community in the Inland Niger Delta region of central Mali, famous for its Sudanese-style architecture.

Another feature of the mud mosque is that its flat roof is supported by very thick load-bearing walls and many columns on the interior. The building is rectangular in shape.

Today, the Wuriyanga Ancient Mosque is still standing despite its age and in active use by the community. It can accommodate 150 Muslims at a time for prayers.

For Jum’ah (Friday prayer) and Khutba (sermon) at 1:30 p.m., men gather there to pray and hear the Imam’s Khutba while the women gather in and around the mud mosque.

In the mosque, there are two coffins for burial purposes while there are a number of moulded mud blocks to be used for renovation purposes.

Unfortunately, some cracks are beginning to develop on some parts of the building, particularly around the minaret area (a slender tower, typically part of a mosque, with a balcony from which a muezzin calls Muslims to prayer).

Some of the elders in the community, including the two Imams, have pointed out the need for the old mosque to be preserved. They expressed regret that although a number of tourists and visitors had been trooping to the mosque, little was being done about supporting the community to maintain the mosque for posterity.

Figures made available by the maintenance committee of the mosque indicate that on the average, four tourists visit the mosque annually.

Mr Hamid on behalf of the Muslim community and the two Imams, therefore, appealed to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, investors and tourists to help maintain the mud mosque, as a way of developing religious tourism in the area and the country as a whole.

He called for a mausoleum, an Islamic education unit, and expansion of the mud mosque to accommodate more women during prayers.

Furthermore, he appealed for a borehole and toilet facilities to be provided to make the Muslim congregation comfortable whenever they visited the mud mosque for prayers.

Paris exhibition explores Jewish history in Middle East and North Africa

Lemma Shehadi

Nov 28, 2021

Anew exhibition at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris explores Jewish history in the Middle East and North Africa, from antiquity to the present day.

Jews of the East (Juifs d'Orient: Une Histoire Plurimillenaire) is the largest exhibition of its kind to date, and is the first comprehensive show on Jewish history to be held at a cultural institution devoted to the Arab world. French President Emmanuel Macron attended the show's inauguration on Monday, praising its “journey across time and space”.

French President Emmanuel Macron, centre, visits the exhibition at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris on November 22, ahead of its public opening. AFP

For more than three millennia, Jewish communities have coexisted with the region’s pre-Islamic societies and Islamic dynasties. “The ancient Jewish presence across the region is spectacular,” says historian Benjamin Stora, the exhibition’s curator and author of 2017 book Juifs, Musulmans: La Grande Separation (Jews, Muslims: the Great Divide). "There are early synagogues from Syria and an age-old presence in Saudi Arabia. I was surprised by the depth of this history."

Polish Muslims bring aid to desperate migrants stuck on the border

Paul Peachey

Nov 28, 2021

Muslims in the Polish border village of Bohoniki have already held four funerals for migrants who died trying to cross the fortified frontier from neighbouring Belarus and fear more will follow as snow falls on its silent hillside graveyard.

As the security forces play a daily game of cat-and-mouse with desperate migrants in the freezing forests, members of the tiny Tatar community of eastern Poland have helped take food and clothing to fellow Muslims in need.

But the banner hanging outside the village’s mosque also expresses full support for the work of the military, highlighting the competing emotions of the 2,000-strong Tatar population who combine adherence to their religion and sympathy for the newcomers with a strong loyalty to Poland.

Bohoniki has one of the two mosques that survived wars, repression and regime change in eastern Poland during the 20th century. The region is the stronghold of one of the oldest Muslim communities in Europe.

Ilhan Omar calls for action over Republican Boebert’s ‘Jihad Squad’ comment

By JAMES ANDERSON

27 November 2021

DENVER (AP) — United States House Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, a Democrat, called Friday for House leaders to take “appropriate action” against Colorado Republican Representative Lauren Boebert for using anti-Muslim language in describing a recent encounter she had with Omar at the US Capitol.

According to a video clip posted by a Twitter account called PatriotTakes, Boebert made the remarks this holiday break. In it, she says she and a staffer were taking a Capitol elevator when she saw an alarmed Capitol police officer running toward them. She said she turned to her left and spotted Omar standing beside them.

A Canadian school district canceled a book club event with an ISIS survivor over fear her new book would "foster Islamophobia."

Helen Fisher, the superintendent at the Toronto District School Board, said students would not be allowed to attend the event slated for February where Nobel Peace Prize winner and ISIS survivor Nadia Murad would discuss her new book The Last Girl: My Story of Captivity, and My Fight Against the Islamic State, which details how she was forced into sexual slavery at 14 and the rapes and torture she endured under ISIS.
