Indian-Origin Doctor In England Suspended For Making
‘Porky Sausages’ Remark To Muslim Female Colleague
Apr 1, 2023
The two doctors worked at Hereford County Hospital in
Herefordshire, England.
-------------
By India Today World Desk: An Indian-origin doctor in
Herefordshire, England was suspended by a medical tribunal for making
"porky sausages" remarks to a Muslim colleague, who is originally
from Pakistan, reported the BBC. A medical tribunal ruled that Dr Colathor
Eshwari demonstrated "hostility based on assumptions about her colleague’s
race or religion".
The complainant, Dr A, told the tribunal that when she
first arrived from Pakistan as a training fellow in Hereford in November 2019,
she had tried to introduce herself to Dr Eshwari at the hospital accommodation.
She alleged that Eshwari refused to introduce herself and she muttered the
phrase “porky sausages” more than once.
Dr A further said on one occasion, she had poured
water from a bottle into a kettle but Dr Eshwari grabbed it and threw the water
into the sink, saying, “Don’t make this kettle dirty with your dirty water.”
Dr Colathor Eshwari refuted the allegations and said
she was busy in the kitchen and was in a "beastly rush" when Dr A
arrived and added that she did not refuse to give her name. She added that
during that time, she was searching the communal fridge for sausages and
muttered to herself, "Where are the sausages?"
On the water kettle remark, Dr Eshwati told the panel
that she poured away the water from the kettle on health and safety grounds.
She said the water had come from a half-filled bottle and that she refilled it
with tap water instead.
The panel rejected Dr Eshwari’s defence, ruling that
it would uphold the accusations against her except the claim over the
introduction as it cannot be proven.
It said it was “more likely than not” that she made
the “porky sausages” remarks and did say the words to the effect of “don’t make
this kettle dirty with your dirty water”. The tribunal ruled that Eshwari's
actions were “inappropriate and had the potential to cause offence”, said the
BBC report.

Arab Official, Sheikh Kamal Khatib: Al-Aqsa Is Our
Mosque And Not Your Temple
Kamal Al-Khatib
Apr 2, 2023
Al-Aqsa Mosque
------------
Sheikh Kamal Khatib, the deputy leader of the northern
branch of the Islamic Movement and currently a senior member of the High Follow‑Up Committee for Arab Citizens of Israel, calls on the
Muslim public to strengthen the connection to the Al-Aqsa Mosque following the
elimination of a terrorist who grabbed a gun and shot at police officers in the
Old City of Jerusalem on Friday night.
"20 bullets were fired by Ben Gvir’s policemen
into the body of the martyr Dr. Muhammad al-Assibi, even though one bullet was
enough to carry out their abominable and heart-wrenching mission, because they
were at a distance of zero from him while he was trying to free a Muslim woman
from their unclean hands," Khatib charged.
"When one of us is murdered in cold blood at the
entrance to Al-Aqsa Mosque, does this mean that when one of our sons or one of
our daughters or we arrive at Al-Aqsa Mosque to pray there, we must write a
will in accordance with Islamic law, since he may be murdered like Dr.
Muhammad, a resident of the village of Hura, who will not return to his family
members except with as a shaheed (martyr -ed.) who was murdered?" he
added.
"No, and a million times no, what happened to the
shaheed Muhammad will not be a reason for us to avoid or hesitate about
traveling to Al-Aqsa Mosque or staying there, but on the contrary, it will
cause us to gather and spend more time at the Al-Aqsa Mosque," declared
Khatib.
He concluded his words by saying, "If it is
required to write our will in accordance with Islamic law, then they will find
nothing but the following in it: Do not leave Al-Aqsa (Mosque) alone. Always
look towards Al-Aqsa (Mosque). Al-Aqsa Mosque is a deposit on your neck.
Al-Aqsa is our mosque and not your temple. We are on the way to the redemption
which is near and wait for good tidings."
Khatib was arrested several years ago and charged with
inciting violence, publishing words of praise and encouraging acts of terrorism
and identifying with a terrorist organization.
The Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) said after the
arrest said that Khatib was using his public status to stir up the rioters on
the Temple Mount and around the country, despite the fact that he had been
warned several times.
Khatib was later released conditional on a number of
clauses including: a ban on conducting interviews, speeches or sermons; no
Internet access; prohibition of entry into the territory of KafrKanna for 45
days and prohibition of participation in an event with more than 15 people.

In Malaysia, historian Yusuf Liu says centuries-old
traces of Chinese Muslims still seen today
By Zarrah Morden
02 Apr 2023
Yusuf Liu speaks to Malay Mail during an interview at
his office in Petaling Jaya March 25, 2023. — Picture by Yusof Mat Isa
--------------
PETALING JAYA, April 2 — Chinese Muslims have existed
in Malaysia for hundreds of years, said historian and writer Yusuf Liu, who is
originally from China but has made his second home here.
A tall man who speaks rapidly in both English and
Malay, Liu employs graceful hand gestures and movements when illustrating his
point.
A resident of Malaysia for over three decades now, the
academic has been a prominent link between the Chinese Muslim community here
and China, and is given to using both Chinese proverbs and quotes from the Quran
when speaking about this.
Beyond bridging the two nations' Chinese Muslim
cultures, Yusuf has accompanied senior Malaysian leaders visiting China, having
gone with former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the current Senate
president, Tan Sri Rais Yatim, among others.
“There are at least five roads in Malaysia that are
named after Chinese Muslims,” he told Malay Mail during an interview at his
office.
To emphasise his point, Yusuf brought out a photograph
of him standing by a sign for Jalan Husin Che Lee, which he found in Pangkor.
Other streets included Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho (named
after the famous Chinese Muslim admiral) and Jalan Puteri Hang Li Poh, both in
Melaka.
“Even if I go to the supermarket, there is a surau
there,” he said, adding that it was also very easy to find food in Malaysia
that followed halal, or permissible, restrictions.
When the academic, who has performed the Haj
pilgrimage four times, spoke about Islam, his eyes grow soft and his hand
gestures slow.
He has also published many books about Malaysia, from
the history of the country’s watchtowers to the role of Chinese Muslims in the
Malay world.
What he is most passionate about, however, is
promoting understanding between the Chinese and Malay national cultures. Yusuf
said this has led him to publish books such as PeribahasaMelayu-Cina
(Malay-Chinese Proverbs), which he co-wrote with Rais.
When asked about the friction that exists between
different communities, Yusuf said hostility often comes about because people do
not understand each other and instead see their differences.
For emphasis, Yusuf plucked a Malay translation from a
book he wrote on Confucian sayings from Islamic perspectives (Teks
LengkapLunyuKonfusius&HuraiandariPerspektif Islam) from a bookshelf in his
personal library.
But Yusuf said he not only promotes understanding
through his books, as he has also done so through calligraphy and wood
engravings in Arabic and Jawi.
“Highly developed societies and nations must also have
highly advanced culture like thinking, art, literature, calligraphy, heritage,
and so on,” he said.
The amount, the biggest so far from China, is from a
total of 19 memoranda of understanding (MoU) sealed between businesses in China
and Malaysia.
Anwar met President Xi Jinping on Friday during his
first trip to China as Malaysia's leader, as his delegation hopes to tie up
several projects, likely including assistance for a high-speed railway linking
Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.

Smuggled Iranian carving worth £30m seized at airport
by UK border patrol
DalyaAlberge
1 Apr 2023
It was carved almost 2,000 years ago and is such an
important sculpture that if it appeared on the art market today it could fetch
more than £30m.
But this is a previously unrecorded antiquity that can
never be sold. For the large fragment of a Sasanian rock relief – which depicts
an imposing male figure carved in the 3rd century AD – has been freshly gouged
from a cliff in Iran with an angle grinder.
It was heading for the black market in Britain when it
was seized at Stansted airport. Border Force officers became suspicious when
they saw its haphazard packaging, perhaps intended to suggest that it was a
worthless item. The antiquity, which is over one metre in height, was hacked
out of living rock or rock that has been carved in situ.
Dr St John Simpson, a senior curator and archaeologist
in the British Museum’s department of the Middle East, said: “We almost never
come across a case of something being cut out of the “living rock”. That’s a
level of brutalism that surpasses anything.

single people, but (God’s plan is) to test you in what He has given you: so
compete in all virtues as in a race. The goal of you all is to (please) Allah
who will show you on judgment day) the truth of the matters in which you
dispute.” (Qur’an 5:48)
This means that religious pluralism is the will of
God. Yet for centuries many believers in one God have chided and depreciated
each other’s religions, and some believers have even resorted to forced
conversions, expulsions and inquisitions. Monotheists all pray to the same God,
and all prophets of monotheistic faiths are inspired by the same God.
For almost 14 centuries Jews, Christians and Muslims
have read each other’s holy scriptures from an adversarial perspective. Since
all monotheistic scriptures come from the one and only God, we should view
other scriptures as potentially enriching our understanding of our own
scripture.
But in the middle ages almost all readers thought of
revelation as a zero sum sport like tennis rather than a multiple win
co-operative sport like mountain climbing. In a zero sum game any value or true
spiritual insight I grant to another scripture somehow diminishes my own. This
was the result of the widespread use of scripture for missionary purposes; to
win over others and not to share equally with others.
The situation has not improved much in modern times.
In the last two centuries university academics have written many studies of
comparative religion which they claim are objective and not distorted by their
religious beliefs. Unfortunately, academics who treat other religions
academically usually do not believe that other scriptures are actually Divinely
inspired.

Donald Trump indictment throws 2024 race into
uncharted territory
Mar 31, 2023
NEW YORK: The historic indictment of former President
Donald Trump thrust the 2024 presidential election into uncharted territory,
raising the remarkable prospect that the leading contender for the Republican
nomination will seek the White House while also facing trial for criminal
charges in New York.
In an acknowledgment of the sway the former president
holds with the voters who will decide the GOP contest next year, those eyeing a
primary challenge to Trump were quick to criticize the indictment. Without
naming Trump, Florida gov Ron DeSantis called the move “un-American.” Former
Vice President Mike Pence, whose life was threatened after Trump incited an
insurrection at the US Capitol, told CNN the charges were “outrageous.”
That posture speaks to the short-term incentives for
Republicans to avoid anything that might antagonize Trump's loyal base. But the
indictment raises profound questions for the GOP's future, particularly as
Trump faces the possibility of additional charges soon in Atlanta and
Washington. While that might galvanize his supporters, the turmoil could
threaten the GOP's standing in the very swing-state suburbs that have abandoned
the party in three successive elections, eroding its grip on the White House,
Congress and key governorships.
Trump has spent four decades managing to skirt this
type of legal jeopardy and expressed confidence again late Thursday, blaming
the charges on “Thugs and Radical Left Monsters.”

Sudan’s speciality ‘bittersweet’ Ramadan drink
02 Apr 2023
OM ESHR (Sudan), April 2 — As generations of Sudanese
have done before her, Wissal Abdel Ghany crouched next to a fire to prepare a
traditional drink, a thirst-quenching favourite enjoyed during the fasting
month of Ramadan.
She sat in a small room in the village of Om Eshr, on
the outskirts of the capital Khartoum, which teemed with a small force of women
busily scraping and spreading a mixture before serving the beverage in clear
glasses.
The drink has satisfied thirsty fasters for decades
and recipes are “inherited from our mothers and grandmothers,” the 43-year-old
said.
Corn is harvested and left to dry in the sun before
being ground and mixed with spices such as fenugreek, cumin or even hibiscus —
Sudan’s other essential Ramadan beverage.

Journalist arrested on charges of child abuse and
Child exploitation: MoFA Bangladesh
By AIR News
April 1, 2023
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) of Bangladesh
has denied that the journalist Md. Shamsuzzaman was arrested as he wrote about
‘cost of living in Bangladesh’. In a statement issued on Saturday, the MoFA
said that the report by a few international media and institutions about the
arrest of the journalist is ‘totally false and fabricated’. It said a journalist
was arrested because of ‘child abuse’ and ‘child exploitation’. The MoFA
statement said that the journalist offered ten taka to a 9-year-old boy and
then expressed his own views in the name of that child which is surely an act
of child abuse and exploitation.
The MoFA further said that Shamsuzzaman tried to
undermine the independence of Bangladesh on the great Independence Day. These
acts are surely tantamount to punishable crimes. The Government of Bangladesh
is committed to uphold freedom of expression for all its citizens and the
media. However, creating social unrest by undertaking such fraudulent acts is
contrary to the spirit of honest journalism, said the statement.

Tate thanked God upon his release after spending part

Bosnian traditions in holy month of Ramadan
Apr 2, 2023
Preparing for Ramadan starts a while before the month
begins, as Muslims go about cleaning the mosques which volunteers and young
people fill and decorate.
When the start of Ramadan is confirmed by the state,
different forms of celebrations start in Bosnia, and you can see lanterns and
lights everywhere.
Ramadan is considered a chance in Bosnia to spread the
sense of takaful (sponsorship) and pay the debts of the indebted as well as
collect donations for the needy.
In Bosnia, Ma’edet Al Rahman (Mercy Table) brings
together people of all religions, and families, relatives, and neighbors are
all invited.
In Ramadan in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the markets get
crowded as the period between noon and afternoon witnesses great demand by
fasting individuals who purchase their vegetables, meat, and legume needs to
prepare iftar before Azan Al Maghrib (sunset call to prayer).
Politicians and public figures in Ramadan in Bosnia
pray Taraweeh (special Ramadan prayers) around the country without tight

Russia sends bombs as Ukraine marks grim Bucha
anniversary
Mar 31, 2023
KYIV: Russia used its long-range arsenal to bombard
anew several areas of Ukraine on Friday, killing at least two civilians and
damaging homes as Ukrainians commemorated the anniversary of the liberation of
Bucha.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Bucha, a town
near Kyiv, stands as a symbol of the atrocities the Russian military has
committed since its full-scale invasion began in February 2022.
The Kremlin's forces occupied Bucha weeks after they
invaded Ukraine and stayed for about a month. When Ukrainian troops retook the
town, they encountered horrific scenes: bodies of women, young and old men, in
civilian clothing, lying in the street where they had fallen or in yards and
homes.
Russian soldiers on intercepted phone conversations
called it "zachistka" - cleansing, according to an investigation by
