Reducing rights of Muslim-Americans won't secure US

December 18, 2016

Violent private threats against Muslim-Americans are on the rise, with a nearly-fourfold increase in attacks on mosques since early 2015. Disturbingly creative acts of vandalism have ranged from New York to Philadelphia to Las Vegas, Texas to California, Michigan to New Jersey, New England to the Pacific Northwest. Such acts have included feces on doorways, bacon wrapped around door handles, desecrated Korans, a severed pig head, burning crosses, and an actual fire-bombing attack. Additionally, militia groups such as the “3 percenters” have consistently tried to shut down mosque building through heavily-armed, military-style intimidation, bullying not only Muslim leaders but also law enforcement officials and local legislators who vote on permits for this type of free expression of religion.
