According to a statement by NDS, the militants were operating under the supervision of the Taliban group leader Mullah Mazlumyar.

The suspects have been identified as Nazar son of Janan, Abdul Rahman son of Abdul Khaliq, Bacha Khan son of Mir Hamza and Naqibullah son of Abdul Rahman.

Libya could replace Syria and Iraq as main Islamic State hub

April 4, 2016

If attacks on Islamic State continue to weaken the group in Syria and Iraq, it could relocate its headquarters to Libya’s northern coastal town of Sirte, its Libyan headquarters since early spring 2015, an Israeli expert on Africa said on Sunday.

Prof. Yehudit Ronen, a leading expert on Libya and the African Sahel region at Bar- Ilan University, said the Syrian regime and Russia’s military victory in retaking the ancient city of Palmyra from Islamic State was a watershed defeat for the group.

“As Islamic State losses continue, the attractiveness of Libya as a rear and alternative base could gather momentum and become reality,” said Ronen, a political scientist and author of the acclaimed Qaddafi’s Libya in World Politics.

“Libya’s Mediterranean coast is a highly important strategic location for Islamic State, which it penetrated in 2014,” noted Ronen. “The organization is well aware that the coastal strip’s oil and gas-rich infrastructure and ports are turning Libya into an effective jump-off point to expand jihadist terror to the European continent.”

The unrest in Libya’s can be seen in the broader context of the jihadist plagued Maghreb and Sahel regions where terrorism is transversing borders, affecting governments from Algeria to Tunisia to Egypt, she continued.

Moreover, she said, “Libya’s governmental void and violent chaos, lacking any effective military and security systems, further aggrandize the attractiveness of Libya to the Islamic State.”

Since the summer of 2014, Libya has had two rival governments: The self-declared one in Tripoli, and the elected and internationally recognized government in Tobruk, she explained.

“This week, the third unity government backed by the international community, appeared in the political arena, yet, [without] succeeding to become an effective actor.

Besides ceremonial gestures, the new unity government lacks any effective authority and still is bickering over a base in Tripoli, while in the meantime the economy has collapsed.

“The Western powers are backing the unity government, hoping it will become an address to cooperate in confronting the Islamic State militants, deal with illegal migratory flows from Libya to Europe, and restore oil production to shore up Libya’s economy and thus stabilize the country and curb the export of jihadist militancy and terror activities,” she said.

The West has been looking to politically and military back the unity government, which is supposed to lead by consensus, however, the West cannot move until it has a legitimate political pillar to collaborate with, asserted Ronen.

In a twist, Muammar Gaddafi’s daughter, Aisha, from her safe haven in Algeria, reiterated the message that her father gave before his fall; that the country would fall to Islamist groups if his regime were toppled.

“The state of the rats didn’t work. The rats don’t build, they eat each other,” said Aisha, as quoted in Al-Ahram Weekly.

“Libya has fallen into the tentacles of imperialism,” she said.

Ronen points out that Aisha’s father “warned the West that what is happening now would happen if he was toppled from power. He ended up being right.”

“The bottom line is that Islamic State has found the perfect storm where it can hunker down and build its power away from the main stage in Syria and Iraq, expanding on its ambitions to implement the caliphate vision deeper into the African Sahel and Maghreb as well as in Egypt and Sudan,” said Ronen.

US: Muslim boy accuses teacher of calling him a terrorist

Apr 03, 2016

Houston: A 12-year-old Muslim boy has accused his teacher of targeting him for his religion by calling him a "terrorist" in front of his peers in the US state of Texas, prompting school authorities to probe the incident. Waleed Abushaaban, a 7th grade student in First Colony Middle School has been the butt of "bomb" jokes and ridicule from his fellow classmates after his teacher made the careless crack, a local TV KHOU.com reported.

The teacher allegedly made the insensitive comment when her class had been watching the movie "Bend it Like Beckham" after taking an exam and Waleed let out a loud laugh at a joke in the movie.

"We're in the class watching a movie," Waleed said. "And I was just laughing at the movie and the teacher said, "I wouldn't be laughing if I was you. And I said why? She said because we all think you're a terrorist." After that comment other students started making fun of him and started calling him a "bomb".

"They were like, 'oh I see a bomb!' and they started all laughing and making jokes. I was upset and I felt like I was put in the corner and like everybody was just looking at me," Waleed added.

The English and Language Arts teacher was immediately removed from the classroom after the accusations, and Waleed's family wants her gone for good.

"Just because my son is a Muslim doesn't mean he is a terrorist," said Malek Abushaaban, Waleed's father. "He's as American as anybody else. He was born here ... that's all he knows is how to be an American." The family is also calling for the school to get religious sensitivity training.

The Fort Bend school district released a statement about the accusations saying they do "not support the teacher's actions."

"No religion should be targeted by and disrespected by any administrator on any school campus," said Quanell X, a community activist.

The school has removed the English and Language Arts teacher from the classroom while it investigates; however, Waleed's family want her permanently dismissed.

Syria: Infighting Rages among ISIL, Rival Terrorist Groups in Dara'a

Apr 04, 2016

TEHRAN (FNA)- Informed sources said that the terrorists of Ahrar al-Sham, al-Nusra Front and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) have launched a huge offensive against the ISIL positions Southwest of Dara'a province.

"The joint front of al-Nusra, Ahrar al-Sham and FSA were able to capture the villages of Sheikh Saad, Jaleen, al-Tairah, Nah and Al-A’jami from the ISIL," sources said.

Also on Friday, field sources reported intense infighting between the FSA and al-Nusra Front on one side and the ISIL-affiliated Brigade terrorist groups on the other side in the Western parts of Dara'a.

During the clashes, the FSA and the Al-Nusra Front managed to take full control of the Northern part of the town of Tassil in Western Dara'a from Lawa Shohada al-Yarmouk and Harakat al-Mothana terrorist groups.

Score of terrorists from both sides were killed and injured during the infighting on Friday.

Internal clashes among the terrorist groups are on the rise after the Syrian army's advances in more militant-held territories and after a recent ceasefire between the government troops and armed opposition factions that excludes the al-Nusra Front, ISIL and Jeish Al-Islam.

Almost the entire range of extremist and terrorist groups are supported by Saudi Arabia and Turkey, with their key commanders and leaders being Saudi nationals. ISIL, Al-Nusra and other extremist groups pursue the same line of ideology exercised and promoted by Saudi Arabia, Wahhabism. Hundreds of Saudi clerics are among the ranks of ISIL and Al-Nusra to mentor the militants.

Wahhabism is now the only source of the textbooks taught at schools in the self-declared capital of the ISIL terrorist group, Raqqa, in Northeastern Syria resembling the texts and lessons taught to schoolgoers in Saudi Arabia. The Wahhabi ideology, an extremist version of Sunni Islam that is promoted almost only in Saudi Arabia, sees all other faiths - from other interpretations of Sunni Islam to Shiism, Christianity and Judaism - as blasphemy, meaning that their followers should be decapitated as nonbelievers.

Islamic State West Africa reaffirms loyalty to al Baghdadi

April 2, 2016

The Islamic State West Africa (ISWA), which is more commonly known by its former name Boko Haram, reaffirmed its loyalty to both its local leader Abubakar Shekau and the overall leader of the Islamic State, Abu Bakr al Baghdadi.

In the video, a spokesman for ISWA began by talking about the “steadfastness of the monotheists” and that the “enemies of Allah the Almighty hold conferences and meetings to come up with a solution for the hole into which they fell, thinking that they can rescue their proxies and allies from the assault of the soldiers of the Caliphate,” according to a translation from the SITE Intelligence Group. He goes on to say that ISWA will inflict harm on their enemies in “Nigeria, the Niger border, Cameroon, or Chad” which have all seen attacks perpetrated by the ISWA.

The spokesman then lambasted statements released by the Nigerian government saying that “victory is imminent” over the jihadist group. “Neither the disbelievers nor their apostate henchmen were able to extinguish the light of Allah, so they rushed to use trumpets of hypocrisy from among media personnel and journalists to achieve what they can of fake victory.”

Khalid al-Barnawi: Nigeria Islamist group head 'arrested'

3 April 2016

The leader of al-Qaeda-linked Islamist group Ansaru has been arrested in Nigeria, authorities there say.

A military spokesman said Khalid al-Barnawi was captured in Lokoja, capital of the central state of Kogi.

Ideologically aligned to al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, it is also accused of killing a number of Westerners.

Ansaru said it carried out an attack on a maximum security prison in the Nigerian capital Abuja in 2012, freeing dozens of inmates.

"Security agents made a breakthrough on Friday in the fight against terrorism by arresting Khalid al-Barnawi, the leader of Ansaru terrorist group in Lokoja," military spokesman Brigadier General Rabe Abubakar said.

"He is among those on top of the list of our wanted terrorists.

SA man killed fighting for Islamic State

03 April 2016

Nabeelah Shaikh

Durban - A South African fighting for Islamic State is believed to have been killed last week during the battle for the ancient city of Palmyra.

Bilal Cajee, 38, was from Roshnee in Vereeniging. He worked as a manager at a Benoni store before leaving the country in September to join the self-proclaimed Islamic State.

Cajee’s brother Ahmed, who in 2014 allegedly also joined the group, was also killed in Syria. At the time of his death, it was announced that he had been killed while doing aid work for an orphanage on the Turkish boarder.

It is believed there are several South Africans fighting for IS and Cajee is the fourth local to be killed.

Last week Syrian forces made headlines around the world when they recaptured Palmyra, a World Heritage Site. The ancient city was an important trade route linking several Eastern civilisations (Persia, India and China) with the Roman Empire.

In modern times it was part of Syria but fell to IS in May last year, which by then had control over large parts of Syria and Iraq. IS also has operations in Libya, Egypt and other parts of the Middle East.

Guyana becomes 57th member of the Islamic Bank

April 4, 2016

is now a member of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), after joining the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in 1998, according to a press release from the ministry of finance on Friday. Membership in the OIC is a prerequisite to joining the IDB. The official public announcement of Guyana's membership will be made when the finance minister of Guyana, Winston Jordan, makes his debut appearance at the 41st Islamic Bank Annual meeting in Jakarta on May 15.

Jordan will also hold the title of governor to the Islamic Bank and a deputy governor must also be appointed before the next major gathering of the group in Jakarta. This is one requirement expected to be executed by member states of the Islamic Bank.

The finance ministry did not make pubic who will hold these positions. The quick execution of Guyana's application may have caught the finance ministry by surprise.

Diplomats are urging Guyana to appoint its next ambassador to Kuwait to the OIC as well. This is a logical step and cost efficient, since most of the activities of the OIC and its many organs are based in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

LGBT Muslims Are Enemy No. 1 in Trump’s America

04.April,16

What if Donald Trump had a Muslim daughter?

This is the central question behind the satirical Ayesha Trump webseries, a mockumentary from Chicago-based writer, actress, and comedian Fawzia Mirza, who plays Trump’s illegitimate faux-offspring.

“Ayesha Trump could no longer keep silent,” the series’ website reads. “For the past 30 years, she did not publicly share the truth of her heritage but the time has come for her to shout it loud and proud.”

For Ms. Mirza, the webseries arose out of her experiences being a brown person during an election season where the Republican frontrunner called for a halt on all Muslim immigration to the United States. (According to the most recent Pew estimate, the current Muslim population in the U.S. is more than 3 million.) Mirza attended the recent Trump rally in Chicago—one that would later be disbanded due to widespread protests—and spoke to a Donald Trump supporter. She recalls that the woman commanded her to renounce ISIS and all forms of Muslim terrorism.

US-Led Strikes Putting A Financial Squeeze On The Islamic State

April 03, 2016

The Islamic State is facing an unprecedented cash crunch in its home territory, US counterterrorism officials say, as months of strikes on oil facilities and financial institutions take a deepening toll on the group's ability to pay its fighters or carry out operations.

For the first time, US officials are seeing clear evidence of the financial strain on the group's leadership, as reports surface of clashes among senior commanders over allegations of corruption, mismanagement and theft.

Cash shortages already have forced the group to put many of its Iraqi and Syrian recruits on half-pay, and accounts from recent defectors suggest that some units haven't received salaries in months. Civilians and businesses in the Islamic State's self-proclaimed homeland complain of being subjected to ever-higher taxes and fees to make up for the shortfall.

US officials attribute the economic upheaval to a months-long campaign to destroy the group's financial underpinnings, including weeks of punishing strikes on oil facilities as well as banks and other repositories of hard currency.

Rights Group Slams F1 Chief over Bahrain Races

Apr 04, 2016

TEHRAN (FNA)- A Bahraini human rights group has strongly criticized the Formula One’s governing body, the FIA, for staging auto races in the Persian Gulf kingdom despite its terrible human rights record.

“In the past five years severe human rights violations have been committed during the race authorized by the FIA. These include arbitrary arrests, torture and killings,” Sayed Ahmed Alwadaei, the director of advocacy at the Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy said, presstv reported.

“Until now the FIA have shirked responsibility and failed to use their leverage,” Alwadaei added, urging the body to abide by its responsibilities and be “prepared to cancel the race in coming years.”

Alwadaei’s remarks echoed a letter sent by BIRD to Jean Todt, president of the FIA.

“As the President of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile, you are directly responsible to ensure that due diligence procedures are implemented effectively to mitigate the circumstances in which human rights abuses occur in the process of conducting the race,” the letter said.

Armenia Accuses Turkey of Supporting Azerbaijan's Actions in Karabakh

Apr 04, 2016

TEHRAN (FNA)- Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan said in a statement that Ankara supports the aggressive actions of the Azerbaijani side in Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone.

"It's a pity that for Turkey the importance of human lives is determined by the nationality, and Turkey, with such racist statements, encourages the continuation of the aggressor's action against the self-proclaimed Nagorno- Karabakh Republic," Kocharyan said, commenting on the reaction of the Turkish authorities to the deterioration of the situation in the Karabakh conflict zone, Sputnik reported.

In a statement published just after the clashes erupted, Turkey condemned shelling of Azerbaijani territory by Armenia and called on Yerevan to immediately cease fire and comply with the truce,

Another 'Islamic' airline opens up in M'sia, offers cheaper flights to Mecca

UALA LUMPUR - After Rayani Air, a new Malaysian airline boasting Shariah-compliance is hoping to take to the skies this November promising premier service that caters to the religious needs of its Muslim passengers.

While Rayani Air currently services domestic routes, Waqf Airlines is more specialised. The CEO of Waqf Airlines’ operator Air-Riths Sdn Bhd Datuk Rithsman Mohamed said the airline seeks to fly Muslim pilgrims heading to Islam’s holiest city, Mecca, as well as the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah, at subsidised and therefore cheaper prices.

“Even though we are offering low pricing, Waqf Airlines is not a low-cost carrier. It is very vital to portray image of Waqf as premier and very honourable and valuable in Islam.

“We are comparable with other premier airlines and what more we are flying people to perform one of very important religious tasks,” the airline told Malay Mail Online in a recent email interview.

Turkey lacks preventive measures against child sex abuse

Barçın Yinanç

April/04/2016

Turkey has yet to develop preventative measures to ensure there is no sexual abuse of children in the country, according to Seda Akço Bilen, a lawyer and children’s rights advocate.

“Currently, we have a debate on whether one case is enough [to make a big issue out of it]. But one is too many,” she said amid an ongoing debate about sexual abuse sparked by the alleged rape of 45 boys by a teacher at a pro-government educational institution in the Central Anatolian province of Karaman. “Even if a single case on child abuse didn’t come to the agenda, we have a situation that we need to think about: Currently, we do not have a system that prevents child abuse.

The last few weeks have seen several news stories about child sexual abuse. Is there an increase in such cases or have they become more visible?

First batch of migrants arrive in Turkey, Germany under EU-Turkey deal

İZMİR/HANNOVER

April/04/2016

The first Syrians arrived in Germany from Istanbul April 4, while the first group of migrants arrived in Turkey from Greece on the same day, under an EU-Turkey migrant deal aimed at stopping the influx of migrants and refugees into Europe since last year.

Some 16 Syrian asylum seekers flew into Germany’s northern city of Hannover and will be taken to a refugee shelter about 140 kilometers away, an official from the German federal refugee office told AFP.

A second group of Syrians is set to arrive in Hannover around midday, the official added.

Under the same deal, migrants, mostly from Pakistan and some from Bangladesh, sent back from the Greek island of Lesbos began arriving in Turkey on April 4.

The first of two Turkish-flagged passenger boats carrying 131 migrants arrived in the Turkish coastal town of Dikili early April 4, accompanied by two Turkish coast guard vessels and a police helicopter buzzing overhead, a Reuters witness said.

Why did European intelligence agencies fail to stop the Brussels attacks?

April 4,2016

The day after the Brussels attacks, in which 32 people died at Zaventem airport and the Maelbeek Metro station, I travelled to the Belgian capital and found an alarming lack of urgency among the forces of law and order. While some of the press reported that there were armed police on the streets, I witnessed only the lightest of security presences wherever I went. When I visited the suspected “bomb factory” in Schaerbeek, where the hardware for the November attacks in Paris was made, it seemed like any other day in the troubled district.

Israel ‘our indispensable ally’ in war on Islamic terror, says Paul Ryan on visit to Jerusalem

April 4,2016

paul Ryan — Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mitt Romney’s 2012 running mate, and the Republican Who Didn’t Run for the Presidency this time — broadly holds to the principle of not being too critical of the US government when traveling abroad. But his very decision to come to Israel on Sunday and Monday — on the first days, that is, of his first foreign trip since taking the Speaker’s job last October — is an implied rebuke to President Barack Obama, and an overt reassertion of American solidarity with Israel.

Talking to The Times of Israel from the balcony of his Jerusalem hotel room, Ryan’s first order of business is to make clear that he very deliberately chose to visit Israel now so as “to reinforce our alliance” and to underline his conviction that the US-Israel partnership should and will grow stronger in the future.

‘Panama Papers’ reveal Sharif family’s ‘offshore holdings’

HASSAN BELAL ZAIDI

April/04/2016

ISLAMABAD: A massive leak of secret files from a Panamanian law firm that specialises in offshore tax havens has revealed the often-murky financial wheelings and dealings of some of the world’s most powerful political players, such as Russia’s Vladimir Putin, the king of Saudi Arabia, Iceland’s prime minister and the family of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, among dozens of others.

In a data dump that is described as being larger than leaked US diplomatic cables, around 2.6 terabytes of information drawn from the internal database of Mossack Fonseca has been made public.

The data from the Panama Papers, available on the website of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists — one of around 100 news organisations and 300 journalists that worked on mining the data simultaneously — also reveals the offshore holdings of members of Prime Minister Sharif’s family.
