Brutal mob lynching in Bihar’s Nawada: Muslim cloth vendor dies after religious identity probe

December 14, 2025

Bihar’s Athar Hussain Tortured and Lynched Over Religious Identity.

-----------

In a shocking incident highlighting deteriorating law and order in Bihar, 40-year-old Mohammad Athar Hussain, a cloth vendor from Nalanda district, succumbed to injuries on December 12, 2025, following a brutal mob attack on December 5 in Nawada’s Roh police station area.

In a video recorded before his death, he recounted how four to five men stopped him, checked his pockets, dragged him into a room, and forced him to reveal his Muslim identity.

The attackers allegedly beat him with iron rods, broke his fingers, trampled his chest, used pliers to crush his limbs and ears, struck him with bricks, poured petrol on him, and attempted to set him alight. Some reports mention they opened his pants to confirm his religion.

His wife, Shabnam Parveen, filed an FIR against 10 named and 15 unidentified accused. Police arrested four initially—Sonu Kumar, Ranjan Kumar, Sachin Kumar, and Shri Kumar—with raids ongoing for others.

Nawada has seen multiple mob lynchings in 2025, including two youths beaten to death in February and an elderly couple assaulted in August over witchcraft allegations. — With Agencies Inputs

Israel says it killed senior Hamas commander Raed Saed in Gaza

By NIDAL AL-MUGHRABI

-----------

CAIRO/JERUSALEM - The Israeli military said it killed senior Hamas commander Raed Saed, one of the architects of the October 7, 2023 attacks on Israel, in a strike on a car in Gaza City on Saturday.

In a joint statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz said Saed was targeted in response to an attack by Hamas in which an explosive device injured two soldiers earlier on Saturday.

The attack on the car in Gaza City killed five people and wounded at least 25 others, according to Gaza health authorities. There was no immediate confirmation from Hamas or medics that Saed was among the dead.

An Israeli military official described Saed as a high-ranked Hamas member who helped establish and advance the group's weapons production network.

"In recent months, he operated to reestablish Hamas' capabilities and weapons manufacturing, a blatant violation of the ceasefire," the official said.

Hamas, in a statement, condemned the attack as a violation of the ceasefire agreement but did not say whether Saed was hurt and stopped short of threatening retaliation.

The war in Gaza began after Hamas-led militants killed 1,200 people, most of them civilians, and seized 251 hostages in an attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023. Israel's retaliatory offensive has killed more than 70,700 Palestinians, most of them civilians, health officials in Gaza say.

The October 10 ceasefire has enabled hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to return to Gaza City's ruins. Israel has pulled troops back from city positions, and aid flows have increased.

But violence has not completely halted. Palestinian health authorities say Israeli forces have killed at least 386 people in strikes in Gaza since the truce. Israel says three of its soldiers have been killed since the ceasefire began, and it has attacked scores of fighters

Attacks on Bangladeshi peacekeepers in southern Sudan may be war crimes: UN chief

SM Najmus Sakib

14.12.2025

The UN chief on Sunday strongly condemned the killing of six Bangladeshi peacekeepers and the injuring of eight others in southern Sudan, saying that these acts may constitute war crimes.

“I strongly condemn the horrific drone attacks that targeted the logistics base in Kadugli, Sudan, resulting in fatalities and injuries of members of the Bangladeshi UN Peacekeeping contingent,” Secretary General Antonio Guterres said on US social media company X.

“Attacks against UN peacekeepers like this one are unjustifiable and may constitute war crimes. I remind everyone of their obligation to protect UN personnel and civilians. There will need to be accountability.”

Earlier, Bangladesh’s interim government head Muhammad Yunus condemned the Saturday attack as a serious crime against “international peace and humanity.”

The official statement by Yunus said the six Bangladeshi peacekeepers were killed and eight injured in "a drone attack by terrorists” on a UN base in Abyei, southern Sudan.

Yunus expressed shock over the incident, saying: “The United Nations has already been requested to take urgent measures to ensure the highest level of medical treatment and necessary assistance to the injured peacekeepers.”

The attacks took place amid the long-running conflict between the Sudanese army and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary rebels, which began in April 2023 and has killed thousands in Sudan and displaced millions.

Sudan’s army blamed the attack on the RSF, saying it “clearly reveals the subversive approach of the rebel militia and those behind it.”

The oil-rich Abyei Administrative Area is administered by Sudan and the neighboring nation of South Sudan – which declared independence in 2011 – with both claiming stakes and having been embroiled in conflict for years.

Death toll rises to 11 in Sydney terror attack targeting Jewish community Hanukkah event

14-12-2025

The shooting attack at a Hanukkah event at Bondi Beach in Sydney on December 14, 2025 (Footage by Reuters, AFP, AP, X

------------

Haim Levy, who was at Bondi Beach, tells Channel 12 that he was sitting with his wife, son and daughter when the shooting started at the Hanukkah event.

“I suddenly saw smoke and heard cracks [of gunfire]. I couldn’t tell if it was into the air or at the crowd. But it was immediately clear that something [terrible] was happening.”

“I told my wife, ‘Run!’ She grabbed our daughter. I ran with my son. I hid with my son behind a car.  If you see the footage of the terrorists near a bridge, you’ll see there were cars parked there. For about 20 minutes, we heard gunfire over our heads. After about 20 minutes, I managed to jump over a fence (with my son) and get to our car, find my wife, and speed home.”

Levy, who says he grew up in Israel, decries the “insane antisemitism” in Australia now. “It was clear something like this would happen. I never imagined I’d be there with my wife and children.”

He says his son, aged two, was crying as they hid, and he tried to silence him for fear that the terrorists would hear and come and kill them. “Thank God we survived, when bullets were flying in all directions… It seemed never-ending.”

'ISIS attack' on US troops: Trump vows 'very serious retaliation' — what we know so far

Dec 14, 2025

The US secretary of war Pete Hegseth issued a forceful warning in a post on X on Saturday following a deadly ambush in central Syria that left two US soldiers and a civilian interpreter dead and three others wounded.

The attack, which US military officials have attributed to a lone Islamic State gunman, occurred near Palmyra during ongoing counter-terrorism operations.

US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that the US would respond with "very serious retaliation" following the attack on US troops, an assault Washington has attributed to the Islamic State group.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump described the incident as an ISIS attack carried out in a highly volatile area of Syria that remains beyond full government control.

Speaking later to reporters at the White House, he said Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa was “devastated” by the incident and emphasised that Syrian forces were fighting alongside U.S. troops.

In a post on X, Asaad al-Shaibani said, "Syria strongly condemns the terrorist attack targeting a joint Syrian–American counterterrorism patrol near Palmyra."

Expressing condolences, he further wrote, "We extend our condolences to the families of the victims and to the U.S. government and people, and wish the wounded a swift recovery."

In his recent post, Hegseth confirmed the killing of the attacker in Syria by partner forces, and described him as a "savage." He also warned that anyone who targets American personnel will face relentless pursuit.

"Let it be known, if you target Americans — anywhere in the world — you will spend the rest of your brief, anxious life knowing the United States will hunt you, find you, and ruthlessly kill you."

Hegseth's post came as a quoted response to Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell, who confirmed the casualties occurred during a "key leader engagement" in support of counter-terrorism efforts.

In his post, Parnell wrote, "Today in Palmyra, Syria, two United States Army soldiers and one civilian U.S. interpreter were killed, and three were wounded."

He further detailed the operation during which the attack took place, saying, "The attack occurred as the soldiers were conducting a key leader engagement. Their mission was in support of ongoing counter-ISIS / counter-terrorism operations in the region."

The US Central Command (USCENTCOM) on Saturday (local time) stated the attack as they characterised it as an ambush by a lone ISIS-linked gunman, who was engaged and killed during the incident.

"On Dec. 13, two U.S. service members and one U.S. civilian were killed, and three service members were injured, as a result of an ambush by a lone ISIS gunman in Syria," said CENTCOM.

"The gunman was engaged and killed. As a matter of respect for the families and in accordance with Department of War policy, the identities of the service members will be withheld until 24 hours after their next of kin have been notified. Updates will be provided as they become available," CENTCOM said in its statement.

US military helicopters were dispatched to airlift the wounded personnel to the American base at al-Tanf in southeastern Syria, according to Syrian state media.

Genocide : US military action will expose hidden Nigeria irreconcilable disdain existing between Islam, Christianity – MASSOB

December 13, 2025

The Movement for Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), otherwise called Biafra Independent Movement, (BIM- MASSOB), disclosed at the weekend that the planned Donald Trump military action against Nigerian terrorists, bandits, selfish politicians, among others, will assist in exposing the hidden Nigerian irreconcilable disdain existing between Islam and Christianity.

Speaking through its spokesperson, Chris Mocha, it stated that the Nigerian government’s support for terrorism and bad governance has gradually led to the destruction of the country’s former pride and its economy in the comity of Nations.

Mocha spoke during the Oyi meeting of MASSOB executive members held at Nteje, and attended by regional leaders that included, Mrs Ruth Edeh, Chiefs Sunday Agbo, Aloysius Obi, Simeon Okafor, Anthony Ofoedu, John Ekuinyi, Uche Ubani, and Sylvester Oramulu.

He recalled the tragic event of September 11, 2001 attack on America, lamenting that Abuja rather than catch cold in sympathy with Washington over the misfortune, that Muslim youths celebrated the destruction of World Trade Center, WTC, killed Christian traders, and burnt US flag in support of the Al- Qaeda leader, Bin Ladin Osama.

“It urged the office of US Secretary of State, the Justice Department, Security agencies and other relevant departments to consider the brutal attacks carried out by Nigerian Talibans on its Nationals residing in Nigeria.

The pro-Biafra group recalled that while the members of MASSOB joined other countries of the world to mourn with the people and government of the United States, MASSOB members were ambushed by Nigerian security forces on March 29, 2003, killing scores.

“No Nigerian leader spoke to condemn the police brutality against the members of the organization. Our people have been killed, raped by lepers, and beheaded in religious riots in Northern Nigeria’,” it lamented.

MASSOB cautioned the US of the grave implications of not dividing Nigeria into six Republics along geo-political lines, to disarm terrorists, and bring an end to the State- sponsored insecurity, insisting that the world is still not safe of Terrorism if Nigeria is not divided like the mighty Soviet Union, USSR, among others.

MASSOB lamented that Nigeria is the only country in the world where leadership position offers one the greatest opportunity to steal public money with impunity.

“US should take decisive actions against Nigeria, ‘if some one living with you for 111 years (1914–2025) as your slave, and wants to go home, it will be useless, idiotic saying no to such demand,’ MASSOB stated.

"Pakistan connected to India's history": Congress' Husain Dalwai on Pak university introducing Sanskrit course

Dec 14, 2025

Congress leader Husain Dalwai, commenting on a university in Pakistan reportedly introducing a Sanskrit course for the first time since Partition, said that Pakistan is connected to Indian history and the country should therefore welcome this decision.

"Pakistan was formed by separating from India. So Pakistan is also connected to India's history. Some good people are coming forward in Pakistan, which is a good thing, and we should welcome it," Dalwai told ANI.

The Congress leader also responded to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's speech delivered in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the inauguration of a Veer Savarkar statue, where Bhagwat asserted that statements suggesting India should be divided should not be made. Responding to the remarks, Dalwai said that nobody is talking about dividing the country here.

"Who talks about India being divided there? Nobody. Perhaps they are the ones who talk like that in their own 'shakha'. It should also be written on Savarkar's statue how many times he apologised to the British," added Dalwai.

For the first time since Partition, Pakistan's Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) has reportedly introduced a four-credit course in the classical language Sanskrit. This initiative was launched following a three-month weekend workshop that attracted strong interest from students and scholars. Additionally, the university plans to introduce courses on the Hindu epic, the Mahabharata, and the Bhagavad Gita.

Bloodshed at Bondi: Nine killed as gunfire tears through Sydney beach

14 Dec 2025

SYDNEY, Dec 14 — Two suspected shooters opened fire at Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach today killing nine people and wounding multiple others in an attack that spread panic, with bodies reported lying on the ground.

BANGKOK, Dec 11 — The national men’s karate squad presented the Malaysian contingent with a silver medal at the 2025 SEA Games through the team kata event held at Chaeng...

Another 11 wounded were rushed to various hospitals at one of the biggest tourist draws in Australia’s largest city, New South Wales police said.

”We heard the shots. It was shocking, it felt like 10 minutes of just bang, bang, bang. It seemed like a powerful weapon,” Camilo Diaz, a 25-year-old student from Chile, told AFP at the scene.

Crowds fled in fear from the beach in eastern Sydney, which draws huge numbers of surfers, swimmers and tourists, especially at weekends.

”A number of suspicious items located in the vicinity are being examined by specialist officers and an exclusion zone is in place,” police said in a statement.

An annual “Chanukah by the Sea” gathering marking the Jewish festival of Hanukkah was planned at the beach Sunday afternoon, but officials have not commented on a possible antisemitic link.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog condemned it, however, as a “cruel attack on Jews” and urged the Australian authorities to step up the fight against antisemitism

The grassy hill overlooking Bondi Beach was strewn with discarded items from people fleeing too fast to pack up, including an abandoned children’s stroller, an AFP journalist at the scene said.

”There was a shooting, two shooters in black with semi-automatic rifles,” Timothy Brant-Coles told AFP, saying he saw multiple people who had been shot and wounded.

Another witness, 30-year-old local resident Harry Wilson, told the Sydney Morning Herald he saw “at least 10 people on the ground and blood everywhere”.

Rahul Gandhi Said Elections in Pakistan Are More Credible? No, Video Is Altered!

Khushi Mehrotra

14 Dec 2025

A video of Congress leader and the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, speaking in Parliament is being shared on social media.

The claim: Those who are sharing the video claimed that the Congress Member of Parliament stated that the elections in Pakistan were trustworthy than those in India.

"The thing that stitches together the entire concept of modern India, stitches together the fabric of modern India, brings people together, allows them to build this great nation, is being attacked by these people. They're destroying it. You know they're destroying it, I know they're destroying it, and they know they're destroying it. The election in Pakistan was actually more credible than what we see here. Every party ended up forming the government in the province where its victory made sense based on political realities and voter trends. I'd like to conclude by saying that the biggest anti-national act you can do is 'vote chori'. There is no bigger anti-national act that you can do than vote chori. Because when you destroy the vote, you destroy the fabric of this country. You destroy modern India, you destroy the idea of India."

Is the claim true?: No, the claim is false as this video is altered. Team WebQoof found no mention of Pakistan's election in Gandhi's full speech in the Lok Sabha.

What we found: At first, we ran a relevant keyword search for Gandhi's Lok Sabha speech on 9 December, as shown by the date stamp on the viral video.

'Real agenda clear': BJP alleges 'Congress wants to eliminate PM Modi'; flags ‘abusive language’ at ‘vote theft’ rally

Dec 14, 2025

NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday levelled serious accusations against Congress party, alleging that the "real agenda" behind its SIR, 'vote chori' rally was to "eliminate" Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla shared an IANS video on X where he claimed that the Congress leaders were chanting: “Kabr khudegi Modi ki, aajnahi to kal khudegi (Modi’s grave will be dug — if not today, then tomorrow)". The TOI could not independently verify the authenticity of the footage.

"So the agenda is clear. It’s not about SIR. It is about Sanvidhan pe vaar. Congress leaders chanting 'Kabr khudegi Modi ki, aajnahi to kal khudegi'," Poonawalla said in a post on X.

He went on to claim that the Congress party had "abused" PM Modi "150 times"."Recently Ragini Nayak had also tweeted an AI Video showing him as a chaiwala. In name of SIR - they want to eliminate PM Modi? Recently Rahul Gandhi threatened ECI too. So far Cong has abused PM Modi 150 + times," he said.

Congress party is holding a mega rally at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi, stepping up its campaign over allegations of “vote theft” and the SIR issue, with party leaders calling it a key moment in their political fight against the BJP-led government.

South's 'Ayodhya' moment? A flame divides the hill of many gods; why Karthigai deepam row matters beyond Tamil Nadu

Dec 14, 2025

Rising at the edge of Madurai, Thiruparankundram in Tamil Nadu's Madurai has served as sanctuary, landmark, battlefield, shrine and memory for centuries. First to Jain monks who chiselled beds into its stone nearly 2,300 years ago, later to poets of the Sangam age who immortalised it as Murugan Kundram, and eventually to monarchs, pilgrims and mendicants who left inscriptions and belief layered into its slopes.

Across centuries, the hill took on meanings that were never singular. It became a sacred space for Murugan devotees, a site associated with the god’s divine wedding, a spiritual retreat that bore Jain inscriptions in early Tamil script, and by the 14th century, a place of significance for followers of Sikandar Shah, whose memorial evolved into the Sikander Badusha Dargah. As rituals shifted and dynasties changed, Thiruparankundram continued to absorb new customs into its landscape.

For generations of residents, the hill's story was not interpreted through boundaries or separations, but through the shared steps people climbed and the shared festivals they observed.

Today, that long history forms the backdrop against which new questions are being posed about space, symbolism and tradition. A debate that has become a flashpoint between devotees in courtrooms and a stage for fresh DMK vs BJP.

Thiruparankundram occupies a singular place in Tamil Nadu's cultural and religious landscape. Recognised as one of the Arupadai Veedu, the six sacred abodes of Lord Murugan, it is revered as the site associated with the divine wedding of Murugan and Deivanai, a narrative deeply embedded in Tamil devotional literature and temple ritual.

References to the hill appear in Sangam-era texts such as 'Akananuru' and 'Thirumurugatrupadai', indicating that its sanctity has been acknowledged for well over two millennia. Archaeological evidence traces the hill's significance even further back: around 2,300 years ago, Jain monks carved stone beds with Tamizhi-era inscriptions along its slopes, marking it as a place of spiritual retreat long before the temple infrastructure seen today.

‘I'm Muslim but I mark Shabbat’: How an Indian man is keeping a Jewish legacy alive

Anubha George

14-12-2025

That's the sign welcoming anyone who walks into Thaha Ibrahim's shop in a narrow cobbled lane in the southern Indian city of Kochi.

The bustling street, where vendors sell everything from antiques to Persian carpets and spices, is called Jew Town - some decades ago, every house on this street had a Jewish family, and the place was known as the Jewish quarter.

When some American tourists walked into the shop on a humid afternoon, Thaha, 55, was stitching a kippah, the traditional Jewish skullcap. The tourists gathered around a photograph on the wall which showed the then Prince Charles meeting the residents of Jew Town in 2013.

Sarah Cohen was part of a close-knit population of Jews whose ancestors settled down centuries ago in Kochi, once known as the Queen of the Arabian Sea for its importance as a port and a major spice trade centre.

Thaha has been running the shop since 2000 - first on Sarah's behalf while she was still alive, and taking over fully in 2019, when she died aged 96.

"I was like a son to her. I spent more time looking after her than my own mother," he says. "I'd buy her kosher food and fish, spend time at the shop which was also her home and leave only after closing up."

The unusual friendship between Sarah and Thaha - a Jewish woman and a Muslim man from different economic backgrounds - spanned nearly four decades.

When Sarah died, she left her shop to Thaha. He, in turn, promised to keep her memory and legacy alive in Jew Town - a place which had 2,500 Jews in the 18th Century and is now down to just one.

Turkish foreign minister calls Palestine the 'moral compass' of our era

14/12/2025

Speaking at the Al Sharq Youth Conference in Istanbul, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that the Palestinian issue remains the defining moral challenge of this era. He framed it as a critical test of the Muslim world's ability to turn shared values into collective action, which necessitates resisting Israeli aggression and expansionism. Fidan called for greater unity and a shift from global competition to regional partnership.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has declared the situation in Palestine the "moral compass of our time," challenging the Islamic world to transform its shared principles into tangible collective action. Speaking at the Al Sharq Youth Conference in Istanbul, Fidan emphasized that repelling Israeli aggression and addressing expansionist policies are central to this test. He observed a genuine, though subtle, transformation underway but stressed that achieving unity remains the paramount need for the Muslim world.

Fidan underscored Türkiye's active efforts to foster continuous cooperation among regional actors. He argued that the shifting global balance of power, marked by widespread conflict and strategic competition, must give way to an era defined by partnership and collaboration rather than polarization. Beyond economic ties, he highlighted the necessity for the Islamic world to demonstrate collective will in security, defense, and shared strategic visions.

Iran and the civilizational discourse of Islam

December 13, 2025

Iran, not merely as a state but as a civilizational actor, presents a model of independence, resistance, and Islamic identity-building that can influence the future of the Muslim world and reshape global power dynamics.

Iran is one of the few countries whose political and cultural identity is not the product of colonial borders but is rooted in a long, continuous experience of governance, culture, and civilization. This deep historical foundation elevates Iran’s status in the Islamic world far beyond that of a regional actor.

The continuity between ancient Iranian identity, Islamic civilization, and the modern era has created a unique platform that enables Iran to pursue the civilizational discourse of Islam not as a temporary political trend but as a long-term historical project.

The interaction between Iranian civilization and Islam has produced a space in which concepts such as justice, spirituality, resistance, rationality, and political independence flourish not only in theory but in practical governance.

Islamic civilization has been one of humanity’s most significant experiences in producing knowledge, culture, spirituality, and political thought. Yet, over the past centuries—particularly during and after the colonial era—many of its capacities were marginalized, and Muslim societies were pushed toward dependence on Western powers.

The 1979 Islamic Revolution marked a turning point in reviving this vast civilizational legacy. Unlike political movements in the region that merely imitated Western models or nostalgically clung to the past, the Revolution introduced Islam as a dynamic, time-responsive, and transformative civilizational framework. This perspective demonstrated that Islam could serve as the foundation for an independent, people-centered, and justice-oriented political system. Consequently, Iran became a source of identity revival and an inspiration for resistance and independence movements across the Islamic world.

Western narratives often portray Iran’s resistance as purely political or tactical, but in truth, it is deeply civilizational. Iranian resistance is rooted in the country’s historical and spiritual identity—an identity that has consistently rejected foreign domination and placed sovereignty at the core of its political philosophy.

Despite decades of political pressure, sanctions, psychological warfare, and security threats, Iran has remained steadfast. This resilience stems from a civilizational understanding in which notions such as national dignity, political independence, global justice, and the rejection of domination are fundamental.

Iran has transformed external pressures into opportunities for innovation, self-reliance, and the development of alternative pathways—demonstrating that resistance can be a constructive and future-oriented strategy.

Multiple political conflicts threaten stability in Bangladesh: Report

13 Dec 2025

Dhaka: As the parliamentary election approaches in Bangladesh, conflicts unfolding on multiple fronts between parties, within rival factions and across broader political divides risk undermining the country’s stability and pose a significant challenge for the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government tasked with overseeing a peaceful and credible election, a report said on Saturday.

It added that with former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Awami League party barred from contesting the election, the resulting political vacuum could fuel intensifying confrontations between the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and radical Islamist party Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), both longstanding rivals of the Awami League.

“Although in the past they often found common ground in their opposition to Hasina, these parties are now competing for power and influence. The rivalry between the BNP and JI could exacerbate political instability as they vie for dominance in the post-Hasina landscape. Moreover, internal divisions within the BNP and JI may further fuel unrest,” a report in ‘The Diplomat’ detailed.

Syrian gunman who killed three Americans was to be fired from security forces for 'extremist views'

14/12/2025

Syria's interior ministry said on Sunday that the gunman who killed three Americans in the central Palmyra region the previous day was a member of the security forces who was to have been fired for extremism.

Two US troops and a civilian interpreter died in what the Syrian government described as a "terrorist attack" on Saturday, while Washington said it had been carried out by an Islamic State group (IS) militant who was then killed.

The Syrian authorities "had decided to fire him" from the security forces before the attack for holding "extremist Islamist ideas" and had planned to do so on Sunday, interior ministry spokesman Noureddine al-Baba told state television.

Inside the Grand Mosque: How services are easing movement for millions of worshippers

December 13, 2025

MAKKAH — A wide range of integrated services is operating inside the Grand Mosque to help pilgrims and worshippers move smoothly and safely while performing their rituals, as millions of visitors pass through the site daily.

Entry points are supported by organized pathways, digital screens displaying crowd density on each floor, and dedicated facilities for people with disabilities, including adapted gates, ramps, wheelchairs, elevators, and escalators designed to keep movement flowing throughout the complex.

To highlight these efforts and raise public awareness, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, together with the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, released a video offering a behind-the-scenes look at daily operations inside the Grand Mosque.

The video showcases the scale of the Grand Mosque, which spans more than 1.8 million square meters and can accommodate over 2.5 million worshippers at once.

Live footage follows pilgrims as they move from the gates into the mosque, guided by floor markings and digital screens that help them choose less crowded routes.

Irish High Court throws out lawsuit against UAE Foundation

Huda Ata

December 13, 2025

Dubai: An Irish court has brought to an end a seven-month legal battle over the management of the Islamic Cultural Centre of Ireland, after the claimant withdrew his case, prompting the judge to dismiss all allegations and order him to cover full legal costs.

The High Court in Dublin ruled following the withdrawal of a lawsuit filed by Abdelbaset Al Sayed, who had challenged the administration of the centre amid an internal dispute linked to Al Maktoum Foundation, according to Al Khaleej newspaper.

The case had drawn attention within Ireland’s Muslim community after the centre’s mosque in Clonskeagh, south Dublin, was closed earlier this year.

Justice David Nolan told the court that the withdrawal of the claim meant all allegations against the centre’s directors were effectively abandoned. He noted that the case file lacked a key legal document required to initiate proceedings before the High Court, a deficiency he described as fundamental.

Saudi traditional meal anchors Al-Balad’s culinary scene

SALEH FAREED

December 13, 2025

JEDDAH: In the streets of Al-Balad, where centuries-old buildings frame one of Saudi Arabia’s most storied districts, culinary heritage continues to draw visitors as powerfully as architecture.

Among the area’s enduring attractions is Al-Shadwy for Sheep Head Meat, a family-run restaurant that has served one of the Kingdom’s most traditional dishes since 1958, turning a once-necessity meal into a symbol of Saudi food culture and hospitality.

Tucked into Baba Makkah, Al-Balad’s historic core, Al-Shadwy began as a modest corner table before becoming a landmark destination for locals, food enthusiasts and tourists seeking an authentic taste of the past.

Eating sheep’s head has long been rooted in Arab culinary traditions, shaped by the principle of using the entire animal and avoiding waste. (AN photo)

Now run by the third generation of the Al-Shadwy family, the restaurant remains devoted to a single specialty; sheep’s head, slow-roasted over charcoal using a recipe unchanged for decades.

Eating sheep’s head has long been rooted in Arab culinary traditions, shaped by the principle of using the entire animal and avoiding waste. In Saudi Arabia, the dish evolved into communal meal associated with generosity, warmth and social gathering.

Sixty-five-year-old owner Ghalib Naji Al-Shadwy, who inherited the restaurant from his grandfather and father, remains a familiar presence at the restaurant, overseeing the service and greeting customers.

The men taking on extremism in Manchester's mosques

By Ramazani Mwamba

13 DEC 2025

This winter, three men from south Manchester spent a month educating 200 young people about the pitfalls of extremism. Ismael Lea South, Otis Thomas, and Richard Ampeh spent their weekends in mosques across the neighbourhood.

“Unfortunately, because of what’s going on in Palestine, there are hate preachers or extremist groups who can use the issue to try and say, ‘what are you doing to help the people of Palestine?’

“We’re advising children to say, if you’re ever approached you need to report these people to a trusted elder, a social worker, parent and even your teachers.”

The concept is simple, with years of experience in youth work, Ismael holds court as a friendly, relatable and empathetic figure as he opens up the floor for participants to voice their opinions, concerns and queries.

Issa brothers' £5m mosque change sparks backdated approval request

Bill Jacobs

14 Dec 2025

An entrance to the Issa brothers' £5million landmark new mosque in Blackburn has been altered and improved, councillors will be told this week.

They will be asked to give backdated approval for the change to the secondary vehicle access to the Masjid E Vali on Preston New Road from Billinge End Road. The mosque on the site of the former Westholme Nursery school is being built by the Issa Foundation - a family charity run by the EG Group founders, brothers Mohsin and Zuber Issa.

The main vehicle entrance will remain the original access from Preston New Road and the application to be debated confirms that improved sightlines for that access are now as previously agreed. On Thursday (December 18), Blackburn with Darwen Council’s planning and highways committee will be recommended to approve the change to a condition of the original approval dating from March 2021.

The alterations also include modifications to the car parking arrangements. A report from borough planning manager Gavin Prescott says: “Construction of the development has been ongoing for a number of years and all conditions attached to the grant of planning permission required to be discharged prior to commencement of development have been appropriately discharged, and the developer contribution secured by a section 106 agreement has been paid.

“The changes proposed under this application have already been implemented. Members are recommended to approve this application, detailed assessment of which finds the proposed amendments to be acceptable.

‘I'm Muslim but I mark Shabbat’: How an Indian man is keeping a Jewish legacy alive

Anubha George

14 December 2025

When Sarah died, she left her shop to Thaha. He, in turn, promised to keep her memory and legacy alive in Jew Town - a place which had 2,500 Jews in the 18th Century and is now down to just one.

The most popular account of the arrival of Jews in Kerala dates back 2,000 years during the reign of King Solomon, the biblical king from the Old Testament.

They arrived as traders on the Malabar coast near the ancient port of Cranganore (now Kodungallur), later moving to Kochi. Their early settlements gave them the name Malabari Jews.

Statement by Dr Hanan Balkhy, WHO Regional Director preceding the High-Level Roundtable on Promoting Investment in Global Health through Islamic Financing

14 December 2025

Ladies and gentlemen, members of the media,

Thank you for joining us ahead of the High-Level Islamic Financing Roundtable in Riyadh. Today’s briefing offers the context needed to report on a rapidly emerging opportunity to expand fiscal space for global health.

Health systems worldwide face mounting strain: tighter budgets, rising demand, fragmented services, and a 40 per cent decline in external aid. In the Eastern Mediterranean, these pressures are intensified by protracted emergencies, a growing non-communicable disease (NCD) burden, large refugee populations, and high out-of-pocket spending.

Across our Region and the wider Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) community, health needs are increasing faster than traditional financing can keep pace. This makes innovative, sustainable financing models essential to complement domestic budgets and offset dwindling external support.

Islamic finance offers one of the most promising opportunities to help close this gap. Its wide range of instruments—Zakat, Waqf, Sadaqa, Khums, Sukuk, and Takaful—are grounded in solidarity, fairness, and shared responsibility. While they have long supported social welfare, their potential for global health remains underused.

Paris cancels New Year's Eve celebration on Champs-Élysées as famed avenue sees growing migrant violence

by: Hayden Cunningham

12/13/2025

Paris has canceled its New Year’s Eve celebration along the Champs-Élysées amid concerns over public safety and potential violence, replacing the longtime event with a prerecorded broadcast for residents to watch from home.

Last year, the annual event drew a crowd of more than one million people. The celebration has taken place for roughly six decades but will not be held in person this year. Fireworks are still scheduled to launch from the Arc de Triomphe at midnight, though officials have urged residents to watch the display on television rather than attend in person.

The avenue has been subject to violence as of late as migrants, mostly young Muslim men, have been roaming the streets of Paris to loot stores and get into fights with residents and police. Paris police officials reportedly pressed the city’s mayor to cancel the concert, warning of “unpredictable crowd movements,” though critics have pointed to France’s immigration policies as a contributing factor.

Two US soldiers and an interpreter killed in suspected Islamic State attack in Syria

By IDREES ALI

December 14, 2025

Two US Army soldiers and a civilian interpreter were killed in Syria on Saturday by a suspected Islamic State attacker who targeted a convoy of American and Syrian forces before being shot dead, the US military said.

The attack was barely a month after Syria announced it had signed a political cooperation agreement with the US-led coalition against Islamic State, which coincided with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa's visit to the White House.

The attacker was a member of the Syrian security forces, three local officials told Reuters. A Syrian Interior Ministry spokesperson told a state-run television channel that the man did not have a leadership role in the security forces.

"On December 10, an evaluation was issued indicating that this attacker might hold extremist ideas, and a decision regarding him was due to be issued tomorrow, on Sunday," the spokesperson, Noureddine el-Baba, told Syrian television channel Al-Ikhbariya.

Shock and grief swept through Providence after a deadly shooting near Brown University left at least two people dead and several others critically injured. As authorities worked through an active investigation and enforced a shelter in place order, social media took a darker turn. Amid the chaos, an old post by conservative commentator Candace Owens resurfaced, pulling the tragedy into a separate storm of online speculation. The renewed attention on Owens’ past remark quickly shifted the focus from victims and public safety to debate and outrage. Some users framed the resurfaced post as a prediction, while others pushed back hard, warning against drawing reckless conclusions during an unfolding crisis. The moment highlighted how quickly tragedy can be swept into ideological battles, often before facts have a chance to settle.

The controversy centers on a previous X post by Owens that some online users linked to the Brown University shooting. In that post, Owens wrote, “They have been signaling that a 9/11 style attack is coming the second week of December. Save this tweet. It will age well.” The message did not cite evidence or name specific threats, but its reappearance sparked fierce debate.

Critics were quick to point out the sharp differences between the September 11 attacks and the Providence shooting. One user questioned the logic outright, asking, “How would this make her right.” Others went further, speculating about foreknowledge without offering proof. Another post read, “Did #CandaceOwens know ? #brownuniversity shooting ? Terrorist attack ?.”

Inside a New Judeo-Christian Zionist Army Taking On the Global Jihadist Movement

Maayan Hoffman

12/14/2025

Antisemitic and anti-Israel rhetoric is rising from both the right and the left, with some voices mirroring the extremism of the 1930s, according to Dan Diker, president of the Jerusalem Center for Security and Foreign Affairs (JCFA).

“We need soldiers who are willing to fight to expose our common enemies in the jihad that they are prosecuting against all of us,” Diker told The Media Line. “Jihad targets Christians as it targets Jews, as it targets people from other faith communities and ethnicities. We are facing a common existential threat. That’s why we have to come together, to destroy that threat.”

Jihad targets Christians as it targets Jews, as it targets people from other faith communities and ethnicities. We are facing a common existential threat. That’s why we have to come together, to destroy that threat.

Diker spoke to The Media Line from the United States following a recent trip to Washington, DC, where he helped launch the first-ever Judeo-Christian Zionist Congress (JCZC). He described the initiative as a response not only to the Oct. 7 Hamas massacre but also to the coordinated global surge of pro-Palestinian and pro-Islamist activism on college campuses in the media and in major American and European cities.

“The Judeo-Christian Zionist Congress is to leverage Israel’s vital security and foreign affairs policies and messaging through an army of Zionists, the vast majority of which are not Jewish,” Diker said. “For many years, the Zionist conversation was limited to the core Jewish community, primarily in Israel, and those in America and in the West whose eyes were directed toward Jerusalem.”

He continued, “Since Oct. 7, what we learned is that we [the Jews] are severely outnumbered and under great threat from what’s called the eighth front, which is the nonmilitary assault that we face—the diplomatic assault, the media assault, the social network assault, the economic assault, and the educational assault. We’re being assaulted on so many fronts that require an army that goes way beyond Israel and the Jewish community, to the non-Jewish Zionist community.”

'Indians dogpiled him': US techie behind 'imagine the smell' comments opens up amid major outrage

Dec 14, 2025

Nik Pash, the US techie who drew the wrath of social media after making an apparent comment on Indian techies that they are smelly, has been fired from his company, Cline. Cline founder and CEO Saoud Rizwan initially came to Nik's defence, asserting that the comment was a generic comment on how jampacked hackathon rooms smell and it was not against any race, but he gave in to the social media outrage and announced that Nik Pash was not with the company anymore.

But Saoud Rizwan deleted all his social media posts, including the one announcing that Pash was fired, and cleaned his X account of any posts related to the controversy, while Pash opened up about his firing.

Pash expressed gratitude and love for his team and said no one in his team deserved what happened to them. "I don’t know what will happen next, but I intend for it to resolve positively for everyone involved, most of all my team," Nik Pash wrote without touching the issue of the controversy.

Security forces neutralise notorious bandit KachallaNa’Allah in Sokoto

14 December 2025

Security operatives have killed Kachalla Na’Allah, a bandit identified as a key figure in criminal networks operating in Sokoto State, following a coordinated operation in Isa Local Government Area.

A security source confirmed that Na’Allah was shot dead on Friday during an engagement between Girnashe and Kuka Tara villages in Tsabre Ward. The operation involved a joint team of Mobile Police and Community Guard personnel, with support from the Nigerian Army. “The operation was carefully planned and executed, resulting in the neutralisation of the bandit kingpin,” the source said.

Na’Allah is reportedly a cousin of Ibrahim Chimmo, a notorious bandit believed to be active in the Sububu Forest axis. The security source noted that the elimination of Na’Allah represents a strategic move towards dismantling the leadership and operational structures of bandit groups in the region.

This incident follows the recent neutralisation of another notorious bandit, Kachalla Kallamu, by troops of the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army in Sabon Birnin Local Government Area, indicating a sustained military effort to suppress criminal networks in Sokoto State.

Resistance Units in Zahedan defy repression as Iran’s regime increases executions

By Matin Karim

December 13, 2025

On December 12, in the southeastern city of Zahedan, PMOI Resistance Units launched a new wave of anti-regime activities. These actions featured the distribution of revolutionary messages and slogans that underscored a singular political reality: the Iranian people’s unwavering determination to overthrow the ruling dictatorship and establish a free, democratic Iran. These activities are not merely symbolic; they reflect a continuation of organized resistance and steadfastness in the face of a regime that relies almost exclusively on executions and repression to maintain its grip on power.

The slogans displayed in Zahedan articulated a clear political vision for Iran’s future that rejects both the current theocracy and the monarchical past. The Resistance Units emphasized that Iranian society is at an exceptional moment where it will neither return to the past nor remain stagnant in the present. Messages such as “No to monarchy, no to the mullahs, yes to democracy and equality” and “Dictatorship is dictatorship, whether with a turban or a crown” served as a firm rejection of the mullahs’ rule as well as the past tyranny of the Shah.

Crucially, the Resistance Units addressed the regime’s attempts to sow division among Iran’s diverse ethnicities. By asserting that the guarantees of rights for nationalities by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) ensure the entirety of a democratic Iran, they countered the regime’s demonization campaigns. They declared that the linkage between the resistance of different ethnicities and the nationwide resistance “burns the label of secession,” proving that the Baluch people cannot be ignored or destroyed regardless of how many executions the regime carries out.

The boldness of these domestic activities coincides with a catastrophic geopolitical collapse for the regime in Tehran. For decades, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei utilized warmongering and the export of extremism as a shield for the regime’s survival. However, the past year has stripped the mullahs of this strategic depth. The fall of the Assad dictatorship in Syria and the crippling of Hezbollah in Lebanon have left the regime’s proxies neutralized and Tehran’s rulers exposed without external support.

After Meeting With Obasanjo, Other PDP Leaders, Turaki Says Sacking APC Possible

14-12-2025

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Kabiru Turaki (SAN), has stated that the task of sacking the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), from Aso Rock in 2027 is possible due to the incompetence of the ruling party, adding, however, that it won’t be a tea party.

Addressing journalists yesterday after a 40-minute closed-door meeting of PDP leaders with former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta, Turaki stated that the frank discussion between the opposition party leaders and the former president has further inspired them that the task ahead is not impossible.

Turaki led the party’s newly elected National Working Committee (NWC) on a visit to Obasanjo to secure his critical support and guidance ahead of the party’s task.

He described Obasanjo as a highly experienced elder statesman and former president under the PDP administration, whose legacy of building strong institutions has significantly strengthened democratic development in the country.

Explaining the purpose of the visit, Turaki said the opposition party’s new leadership thought it wise to visit Obasanjo to draw on his wealth of wisdom and seek his blessings and support for the success of the party’s new leaders.

In the entourage of the new PDP leadership were the Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) and former Senate President, Senator Adolphus Wabara; the National Secretary and former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Taofeek Arapaja; two former governors of Niger and Plateau States, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu; and Senator Jonah Jang, respectively.

“As the newly elected PDP leadership during our recent congress at Ibadan, we came to introduce ourselves to our father, the former president under the PDP administration, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo,” Turaki said.

By John Owen Nwachukwu

December 13, 2025

A former Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, has said that he is not among the northerners coming together to say that President Bola Tinubu must go.

He, however, said that he is 100 percent committed to ensuring that the President Tinubu administration and the All Progressives Congress,  APC, are democratically removed from office in 2027.

Speaking on Channels Television on his recent ordeal in the hands of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Tambuwal said the Tinubu administration is not comfortable with his activities in the opposition African Democratic Party, ADC.

On whether it is because of his political ambition, he said, “It’s because I’m fully involved in a process that would democratically and lawfully, by the grace of God, send this government out of office. [I’m] 100 percent committed to it.

December 13, 2025

A UN expert has called on the Pakistan Government to take immediate and effective action to address reports of “inhumane and undignified detention conditions” of former prime minister Imran Khan.

The UN Special Rapporteur on torture, Alice Jill Edwards, on Friday (December 12, 2025) said that prolonged or indefinite solitary confinement is prohibited under international human rights law, and when it extends longer than 15 days, it constitutes a form of psychological torture, a press release issued by the UN Human Rights body said.

Dhurandhar is rare as it views India's terror issue from Pak side of the border

Vinayak Chakravorty

Dec 14, 2025

Love it or hate it, if you have watched Dhurandhar you've noticed it comes across as a different Hindi film. You realise it is a violent drama, a spy thriller and a film that highlights cross-border terrorism within the mainstream space, yet you might just struggle over what exactly makes Dhurandhar a different viewing experience within its genre of pop patriotism.

The answer actually is simple: Dhurandhar is the first Hindi film that looks at India's terror problem from the other side of the border.

It's a film based in Pakistan about terror attacks in India, which makes it unique. Never mind writer-director Aditya Dhar went scouting in Thailand for locations, his fictional universe in Dhurandhar unfolds a fascinating picture of Lyari, Karachi, while laying bare the nefarious planning, execution, and supply of manpower and illegal arms associated with a real-life tragedy like 26/11 in India. There have been many Bollywood films about the Mumbai attacks of November 2008 but all such efforts so far have looked at carnage and courage with India as a backdrop.

While most commercial Bollywood films dealing with terrorism before Dhurandhar attempted to understand the menace from an Indian perspective, one of the first prominent films to look Pakistan in the eye was Sarfarosh in 1999. The John Matthew Matthan directorial shook off the pretence of referring to the source of terror as "pardesimulk" or "dushmandesh" or "sarhadpaar", and squarely named Pakistan as a significant source of terror activity in India. That was the start, and the film did a credible job of showing how weapons are illegally smuggled from across the border and delivered to destructive forces in the country. The plot broadly dealt with a top team of special operatives, led by Aamir Khan's ACP Ajay Singh Rathod, tracking and busting the trail.

Sarfarosh was a start, a film that set off the trend of Bollywood screenplays with terrorism as a subject, packaging to keep the drama real. John Matthew Matthan's screenwriting did away with larger-than-life vibes – especially while imagining Aamir's Ajay Singh Rathod, a usually shy guy who seamlessly transforms into a fiery cop, and Naseeruddin Shah's wolf-in-sheepskin act as ghazal maestro Gulfam Hassan, who turns out to be an ISI agent and conduit for weapon traffickers.

It is important to talk of Sarfarosh to understand where Dhurandhar is coming from. The Ranveer Singh-starrer, put simply, takes to the next level what Sarfarosh openly started in Bollywood all those years ago – a conversation around Pakistan's involvement in terror carnage striking India. Only, Aditya Dhar takes his lens to the source of such activity and doesn't desist from depicting gore as never before.

Aditya Dhar makes it clear right at the outset that Dhurandhar intends to understand India's terror problem from the viewpoint of its foreign origin. The film starts with a shot of IC 814, the Indian Airlines flight that was hijacked by members of Harkat-ul-Mujahideen in December 1999. The aircraft, originally flying from Kathmandu to Delhi, was forced to land in Kandahar, Afghanistan, after detours. Many reports have claimed there might have been the involvement of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

UK says Pakistan regulatory overhaul to yield £1 billion a year as Islamabad launches reform drive

December 13, 2025

ISLAMABAD: Britain’s development minister Jenny Chapman said on Saturday Pakistan’s sweeping new regulatory overhaul could generate economic gains of nearly £1 billion a year, as Islamabad formally launched the reform package aimed at cutting red tape and attracting foreign investment.

The initiative, driven by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s government and the Board of Investment, aims to introduce legislative changes and procedural reforms designed to streamline approvals, digitize documentation and remove outdated business regulations.

Chapman said the UK had worked with Pakistan on 472 reform proposals as part of its support to help the country shift from economic stabilization to sustained growth.

“These reforms will break down barriers to investment, eliminate more than 600,000 paper documents, and save over 23,000 hours of labor every year for commercial approvals,” Chapman said at the launch ceremony in the presence of Sharif and his team. “The first two packages alone could have an economic impact of up to 300 billion Pakistani rupees annually — nearly one billion pounds — with more benefits to come.”

Addressing the ceremony, the prime minister said the reforms were central to Pakistan’s effort to rebuild investor confidence after the country narrowly avoided financial default in recent years.

By Malay Mail

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 14 — Barisan Nasional (BN) has warned that any of its component parties considering leaving the coalition should be prepared to accept the consequences of that decision, with its chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi saying there would be no return for those that exit.

“Do not regret leaving BN. If you leave, there is no way back,” Ahmad Zahid said, adding that parties should not later pressure BN to revisit such decisions.

“Only time — and relations between parties — will determine the direction, even if it leads to your own political demise,” he said, as reported by Buletin TV3, at the 33rd annual general assembly of the All Malaysian Indian Progressive Front (IPF Malaysia) in Hulu Langat today.

Speaking to reporters after the event, Zahid, who is also the deputy prime minister, said Malaysia’s political landscape was likely to shift significantly in the 24 months leading up to the 16th general election (GE16), cautioning parties against making decisions that could leave them politically stranded.
