'We

A
recent vandalism incident at the Islamic Society of Fargo-Moorhead Cemetery
left Muslims living in Fargo-Moorhead unsure if the incident was random, or a
targeted attack against them.
Someone
broke into an abandoned building the Islamic society of Fargo and Moorhead used
to store concrete vaults for Muslim burials. The damage was discovered by a
gravedigger working at the cemetery on Saturday, October 22.
Today,
they opened the Mosque to members of the community, to raise awareness of the
incident and to help educate the public about Islam.
"We're
just here to clear up any misconceptions that there are about our faith and our
community members who are associated with the religion of Islam," said
Mary Habib, a volunteer at the event.
They
enjoyed food and fellowship together. There were educational pamphlets free to
everybody that went over common misconceptions people might have about Muslims.
"We're
all very diverse within our community," Jessica Nix pointed out. "You
know, we have Muslims from a lot of different countries. And even though we're
one religion, we're diverse."
Even
though the thousands of Muslims living in Fargo-Moorhead are still reeling
after the ugly incident, they're using it as a chance to educate others. And
they're making it crystal clear. They say this is their home too, and they're
not going anywhere.
"I
just want to say that we all you know, we're all your neighbors, and we're all
just one big community looking to live peacefully amongst each other,"
said Mary Habib.

U.P.
Government reiterates madrasa survey aims for the betterment of the Islamic
institutions
NOVEMBER
05, 2022

----------
As
the deadline for the U.P. Government’s madrasa survey draws closer, the junior
Minority Welfare Minister in the State government, Danish Azad Ansari
reiterated the necessity for the survey. “All the hue and cry regarding the
madrasa survey is far from reality and the Uttar Pradesh Government wants to
provide better facilities to students studying in these Islamic institutions,”
Mr. Ansari said. “The aim of the madrasa survey was to collect data so that
better education and other required facilities could be provided to these
Islamic institutions. Hence this survey was necessary. We are not going to take
actions.”
The
districts are receiving data from the concerned departments and the report is
likely to be submitted to the State government by November 15. “The government
will receive all the reports from the districts and take positive steps. Our
intention is for betterment of those studying [in madrasas],” Mr. Ansari added.
The
madrasa survey, which is almost complete, started on September 10, with teams
of officials gathering information on 12 points, including infrastructure,
staff, source of funding, and facilities available at the Islamic institutions
in all the 75-districts of the State. As of now, in the survey, over 8,000
madrasas were found to be running without recognition.
As
the survey in Uttar Pradesh, the State with the Muslim population, nears
completion, criticism of it appears to be growing louder. Maulana Mufti Abul
Kasim Nomani, Mohtamim (Vice Chancellor) of the Darul Uloom of Deoband, in a
conference held last week at Darul Uloom attended by hundreds of Muslim clerics
and managers of madrasas to discuss the survey, said, “We have to maintain the
old `nizam of education’.” He added that madrasas did not need modern education
or any kind of government recognition.
Since
the announcement of the survey, the ruling BJP has been criticised by
Opposition parties and Muslim groups, who have alleged that the Yogi government
was trying to terrorisethe Muslim community and the survey was a “malicious”
move to disparage the madrasa system.
Bahujan
Samaj Party (BSP) president and four-time U.P. Chief Minister Mayawati said,
“The BJP government has an evil intent on madrasas in Uttar Pradesh. The
attempts to interfere in the private madrasas, which are run on donations by
the Muslim community, in the name of a survey, is inappropriate. The government
should focus on improving the condition of government [madrasas] and government-aided
madrasas.”
Muslim
organisations like the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) and the
Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind have asked why the same rules do not apply to Hindu
religious institutions such as mutts and dharmshalas.

Iran’s
Hardliners Attack Sunni Cleric For His Criticism
06-11-2022
Molavi
Abdolhamid, a prominent leader of Sunnis in Iran among supporters
----------
The
Islamic Republic has upped the ante against the Sunni cleric of Zahedan for his
harsh criticism of the brutal and non-democratic approach of the government to
protests.
Tasnim
News Agency, affiliated to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), called
MolaviAbdolhamid the source of insecurity in Sistan and Baluchestan, telling
him to ask his “dictator Saudi friends to hold a referendum.”
MolaviAbdolhamid,
who called for a plebiscite in Iran during his Friday prayer sermon November 4,
wrote in a statement the same day, “Unfortunately, another crime was committed
in Baluchestan and this time an unfortunate incident took place in the city of
Khash in which protesters were killed in cold blood.”
His
statement confirmed the “martyrdom of at least 16 people” and dozens of more
injuries while teenagers and young people were chanting slogans and throwing
stones at governor’s office in Khash, but they were “directly targeted by live
rounds.”
He
further called the “bloody tragedy in Khash” as well as the “Bloody Friday in
Zahedan [September 30]” as the epitome of “the extent of oppression and
discrimination” that he had warned against many times in the past.
The
Sunni cleric asked the seminaries of Qom and the authorities to listen to the
voice of the people and to “acquiesce to nation’s request, which is the main
criterion.”

Immigration
officials target mosques, temples and churches to advise people to return home
Nicola
Kelly
06-11-2022
Immigration
enforcement officials are targeting places of worship to advise people with
insecure statuses to go back to their countries of origin, The Independent has
learned.
Specialist
teams from the Home Office have carried out more than 400 “community engagement
surgeries” at temples, mosques, gurdwaras and churches over the past three
years – a fourfold rise since 2019.
In
at least three instances last year, officials carried out immigration
enforcement visits at places of worship that resulted in taking people directly
to an airport, according to figures obtained via a Freedom of Information (FOI)
Act request.
Migrant
groups and charities criticised the practice, calling for the “hostile
environment” policy to be scrapped and claiming people were being “duped”.
Mary
Atkinson, policy adviser for the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants
(JCWI), told The Independent: “Immigration enforcement has no place in faith
spaces – the government must immediately stop running these workshops and scrap
the hostile environment so that everybody can access essential public
services.”
The
“hostile environment” was a set of policies introduced in 2012 by the home
secretary at the time, Theresa May, intended to make staying in the UK as
difficult as possible for people without leave to remain in the hope that they
would leave voluntarily.
The
surgeries in religious premises are being carried out by officials from the
Home Office’s National Community Engagement Team (NCET), a branch of the
department’s Immigration Enforcement function.
They
are aimed at undocumented migrants, failed asylum seekers and other migrant
groups to advise on how to access the government’s voluntary returns scheme,
reintegration, and question-and-answer sessions on overstays, student visas, EU
settlement and delays in applications.
Their
existence was uncovered as controversy raged over the government’s handling of
migrants arriving by dinghy across the English Channel.
The
revelation comes as home secretary Suella Braverman is facing possible legal
action over conditions at the migrant processing centre at Manston Airfield,
where 4,000 people were crammed into facilities intended for 1,600.
One
nine-year-old girl described conditions as “like a prison” in a letter she
threw over the perimeter fence. Despite the centre being designed to deal with
cases within 24 hours, there were reports of asylum seekers remaining for up to
a month, with some sleeping in tents.
A
hurried operation to get numbers down saw 1,200 people ferried out of the camp
by bus over four days, but the Home Office was forced to apologise because some
were left to sleep rough on the streets of London.
Home
Office minister Chris Philp was branded “callous” after saying it was “a bit of
a cheek” for them to complain about conditions when they had chosen to travel
to the UK from countries where they could safely have remained.
In
other developments, riot police were called to Harmondsworth detention centre
near Heathrow Airport on Friday night after a group of detainees armed with
weaponry caused a “disturbance” during a power outage.
And
on Saturday, Counter Terrorism Policing South East declared that the
firebombing of an immigration processing centre in Dover last weekend was a
terrorist incident, “motivated by an extreme right-wing ideology”.
The
Home Office says 137 surgeries were held on religious premises from January to
the end of July this year, indicating that the figure for 2022 could be a
record high.
“They
are often even more important for migrants who, because of this government’s
anti-migrant obsession, face discrimination and are barred from the most
essential services.
ShakilaTaranumMaan
from the domestic abuse charity Southall Black Sisters said: “Many of our
clients are being duped and misinformed about what these surgeries are for.
“We’ve
spoken to people who thought they were going along to get help, but instead
they are being advised it’s better to leave the UK and they’re told ‘this is
how much you’ll be given’. The Home Office officials aren’t identified clearly
enough, so people are giving out all their personal information, not knowing who
they are giving these details to.
“Our
clients feel this is a violation of the grounds of worship – people go there
because they are in turmoil, to search and look for peace. People often go
there for food at the community kitchen.
“I
believe that the leaders who allow these sessions to be hosted on their
premises are betraying our community’s trust. It goes against the ethos of what
they’re purporting to do.”
Other
hotspots for the Home Office surgeries include the Guru Ravidass Gurdwara in
Birmingham, which has hosted more than 35 surgeries so far this year, and the
Shri Sanatan Hindu temple in Ealing, west London, which has permitted Home
Office officials to enter the premises 83 times since the start of 2019.
Despite
assurances that the surgeries do not result in enforcement action, data
obtained by The Independent shows that in at least three instances last year
Home Office officials carried out immigration enforcement visits at places of
worship.
The
Home Office says “the purpose of these visits was to transport individuals to
airports to make voluntary departures that had been arranged”.
Current
Home Office guidance on community engagement visits by NCET teams states: “Some
communities, as well as faith communities, may be unwilling to assist police/immigration
in carrying out operations. Reasonable steps must be taken to seek advice from
the communities concerned.”
The
guidance also states that, when planning an operation, “you must ensure and
provide evidence that all other avenues of investigation have been exhausted.
Scheduling a religious premises operation should be the last resort.
“This
sensitive type of operation will involve large numbers of police officers, IOs
(intelligence officers) and in some instances offenders.
“Operations
at religious premises must be authorised at deputy director level and the
minister for immigration must be informed. Such sensitive cases may require the
home secretary to be informed.”
A
Home Office spokesperson said: “Our community engagement surgeries allow people
to seek information from immigration officials on their stay in the UK or
receive practical support to return home voluntarily.
“These
surgeries are conducted with the permission of community leaders and are held
in conjunction with faith-based and community locations in order to have
conversations with individuals without the fear of arrest. These are clearly
advertised as government-run, and officials identify themselves as being
government employees.”

Jordanian
filmmaker using virtual reality to fight Muslim stereotypes
Handan
Kazanci
05.11.2022
Jordanian
filmmaker Samah Safi Bayazid
---------
A
Jordanian filmmaker and producer is fighting stereotypes about Muslims with the
help of virtual reality films on Islamic history.
"We've
been producers and filmmakers for over 10 years but we never thought that we
will go into entertainment until we were in Disney," Samah Safi Bayazid
told Anadolu Agency.
Bayazid
is co-owner of LightArt Media Productions and Light Art VR, a company she
describes as “for Islamic entertaining virtual reality experiences.”
The
idea for VR films about Islamic culture came when she and her husband were
visiting the theme park. “We were having so much fun,” she said.
“What
if we can tell our stories and our heritage? And the Islamic history in a super
entertaining way, using cutting edge technology, we develop our software,” she
said.
The
company produces films in eight languages, including Turkish, has four VR films
about Islamic heritage, and is producing a fifth and sixth within the next
year.
The
33-year-old was in Istanbul to attend a two-day conference hosted by the Women
and Democracy Association (KADEM), an Istanbul-based women's advocacy group,
together with Türkiye's Family and Social Services Ministry.
The
theme of the fifth International Women and Justice Summit was "Cultural
codes and women," with Anadolu Agency serving as the event's global
communication partner.
“I'm
here to talk about the image of women and the presentation of women in the
media,” Bayazid told Anadolu Agency on the sidelines of the summit.
“I've
worked in this industry for over 12 years and living in the US I see how the
way women, specifically Muslim women, are being represented in the media
directly affects how we are being treated and this sometimes causes
Islamophobia,” she added.
Bayazid
cited the importance of “telling our stories as a Muslim producer and
filmmaker” and said she will be talking about the importance of telling the
stories of Muslim characters.
Along
with her husband Muhammad, Bayazid founded Light Art VR five years ago. “We
decided that we want to produce entertainment for Muslim audiences around the
world,” she said.
They
started producing a Virtual Reality computer-generated company to show 8k
resolution films “that take you back in time 1,400 years ago, to witness the
story of Islam,” she said.
The
director based in Washington also discussed reactions from audiences. “So, we
have completed two different reactions because we have our Muslim audience and
non-Muslim ones.”
Non-Muslim
audiences had similar reactions but were surprised to learn facts about Muslim
culture they did not know until watching the film.
“We
did our project in New York just to share our Islamic culture," she said.
"They loved it and they said 'we didn't know all this information because
it's very informative.”
“For
example, they thought that Islam is a religion of violence. They told us that
before watching our VR experiences they thought that women are second-class
citizens in Islam and they are controlled by men,” she said.
“It's
one of the reasons to educate people and to tell them about our Islamic
heritage and culture, to tell our own story and on our narrative,” said
Bayazid. “Because we're not going let other people tell our story the way they
want. It's our job to tell it the right way.”

Between
the Muslims and Islam: A missed boundary
By
Amna Shehzadi
November
5, 2022
The
Islamic teachings about different subjects generally associated with Western
values or systems like on human rights or democracy are highly debated across
the globe. There are countless researches on Islam and its teachings about
human rights, especially related to those of women; there are scholarly writings
examining the compatibility of Islam and democracy and again, there are a lot
of concerns about Islam’s alleged association with terrorism. In other words,
Islamic teachings or principles are highly debated by international scholars,
mostly by the Western, and clear distinctions are made or explored between
Islamic civilization and the West.
Interestingly,
while taking Islamic teachings as objective in many cases, international
scholars have drawn different conclusions about the same subject. For example,
while examining the relation between Islam and democracy, a special report
titled Islam and democracy, published by the United States Institute of Peace
concluded that the non-democratic nature of government in Muslim countries has
more to do with historical, cultural, political and economic factors than with
the religious one. There are many scholars like Huntington, Lipset, Lewis,
Pipes and the list continues, who, while examining the compatibility of Islam
and democracy reached to a conclusion that Islam and democracy are
incompatible.
On
the other hand, there is a good number of those scholars, such as Kramer,
Halliday, Esposito and Voll among many others, who believe that Islam and
democracy are not conflicting with each other. The conclusions are different
and this is obviously understandable as the researchers have used different
variables or parameters to examine the relation between Islam and democracy.
The
scientific data gathered on different variables mixed with the interpretations
of researchers could inevitably bring different extrapolations forward but as
far as the understanding of Islamic teachings is concerned, many scholars use
the Muslim practices as sole determinants, which is irrational.
Even
then, we cannot expect that scholars would get to the same conclusion and by
the way, this is not required, but at least one could see an unbiased image of
Islam. Finally, its about time Muslims accept the responsibility to bridge this
widening gap between Islamic teachings and Muslim practices, and emerge as the
true representatives of Islam.
Here,
the debate is not about the compatibility of Islam and Western civilization
rather the point highlighted is that Muslims are the humans who have entered
into Islam and Islam is a religion which is differently interpreted by Muslims.
To what degree they enter into Islam determines how well they practice what is
preached– the failure to do so has created a gulf between Islamic principles
and Muslim practices.
Even
the principles are interpreted differently; on the basis of difference of
interpretations and certainly beliefs, Muslims have divided themselves into
different sects. A step ahead is that, at a broader level, on the basis of
Muslims perceptions about Islamic teachings, their interpretation and will of
implementation of Islam, there are different categories of Muslims like
conservatives, reformists and secular. This doesn’t end here, on the basis of
Muslims’ misinterpretations of Islam, there are further different terrorist
groups in which Muslims have been manipulating Islamic ideology as a motivation
for spreading terrorism which is then used as a bridge by the West to link
Islam with terrorism.
In
short, Muslims interpretations about Islamic teachings are different and
ultimately translate into a diversity in their practices. But, as far as Muslim
practices are concerned, they are not always, in fact, rarely, aligned with
Islamic teachings– not even with their own interpretations of Islam. Moreover,
the phenomenon of politicisation of Islam is witnessed to grow in Muslim states
where Islam is used by the politicians as a tool to serve their interests.
Additionally,
more of the Muslim societies are following their cultures which are highly
influenced by the Western culture. Similarly, the Muslim economies are highly
inspired by capitalism which involves interests and accumulation of wealth in a
few hands, not being absolutely aligned with Islamic economic teachings which
allow growth but encourage distribution of wealth.
The
point must be understood that there is an unseen boundary which differentiates
Muslim practices from those of the Islamic teachings, and all that today’s
Muslim does is not taught by Islam and all that Islam teaches is not purely
done by the Muslims.
In
fact, there is not a single Muslim country which is fully following the
teachings of Islam. Therefore, the debates on Islamic teachings versus the
Western system should either use primary source of Islam such as the Quran, for
understanding Islamic teachings or if not, at least the debaters should
demarcate a boundary between the Islamic way and the Muslim way of dealing with
state or societal matters or they can also shift their debates to Muslims
practices versus Western civilization.
To
interpret on the basis of interpretations of Muslims about Islam, or using
Muslims’ practices as a source of interpreting Islamic teachings is not a
rational approach. If Muslims misinterpret Islam and make it a motivation for
spreading terrorism, such as Al-Qaeda, which is considered a terrorist organization
by international scholars, then it must be understood that neither all the
Muslims are members of these organizations nor do all the Muslims support them.
There
are only a few Muslims who perceive that their acts are rightful. So, at the
end of the day, these are Muslims who are misinterpreting, more importantly,
manipulating Islam for serving their cause where Islam itself, remains the same
for all and is not different from its essence, rather it is perceived or
interpreted differently.
Therefore,
Islam should not be blamed for that which means that the Western conception
about Islam which has generated the concept of Islamophobia needs to be revised
by them.
In
order to compare Islam with western civilization, or understand the
convergences and divergences in Islam and the West, scholars must understand
Islam and Islamic teachings objectively and contextually, rather than solely
drawing conclusions from Muslims and Muslim practices
Even
then, we cannot expect that scholars would get to the same conclusion and by
the way, this is not required, but at least one could see an unbiased image of
Islam. Finally, its about time Muslims accept the responsibility to bridge this
widening gap between Islamic teachings and Muslim practices, and emerge as the true
representatives of Islam.

Umno keeps up tradition of fielding non-Muslim in Beluran
06-11-
2022
BELURAN:
Umno has again fielded a non-Muslim candidate on a Barisan Nasional (BN) ticket
in the Beluran parliamentary seat to maintain a unique tradition of the party,
which also has non-Muslim Bumiputera members, said state BN chief Datuk Seri
Bung Moktar Radin.
He
said Umno had always fielded a non-Muslim candidate in the constituency, which
was represented by former Umno member Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee for the past
five terms.
“We
picked former Sandakan Municipal Council president Benedict Asmat because he is
a non-Muslim leader who is capable of bringing changes to Beluran,“ he said at
a meeting with the BN election machinery here today.
Bung
Moktar, who is a Deputy Chief Minister, said BN would be facing a tough fight
as the incumbent Ronald, a Bersatu vice-president, is defending the seat on a
Perikatan Nasional (PN) ticket.
“Until
1 pm on Nov 4 he (Ronald) was in my house negotiating for the seat but I said
no to him. Beluran must be represented by a non-Muslim leader from Umno,“ he
said.
Bung
Moktar, who is also Sabah Umno chairman, is confident that Benedict could win
as he would be backed by the BN machinery with the cooperation of Gabungan
Rakyat Sabah members like Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and PartiSolidariti Tanah
Airku (Star).

Republicans
Could Elect Muslim to Senate in Historic First for U.S.
BY
XANDER LANDEN
11/5/22
If
elected, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Pennsylvania's Republican U.S. Senate candidate in this
year's midterm elections, could make history as the first Muslim to serve in
Congress' upper chamber.
"I
think America, especially this commonwealth of Pennsylvania, was built on
allowing people of very diverse backgrounds to offer their best ideas. All of
us are smarter than any one of us," he said.
Oz,
a celebrity heart surgeon, is running against the state's Lieutenant Governor
John Fetterman for the open Senate seat. Polling shows the two candidates are
neck-and-neck. Oz has been able to narrow his Democratic opponent's lead in
recent weeks, according to FiveThirtyEight, which currently shows Fetterman's
polling average is 46.8 percent compared to Oz's 46.4 percent.

U.S.
privately asks Ukraine to show Russia it's open to talks -Washington Post
November
6, 2022
WASHINGTON,
Nov 5 (Reuters) - The Biden administration is privately encouraging Ukraine’s
leaders to signal an openness to negotiate with Russia and drop their public
refusal to engage in peace talks unless President Vladimir Putin is removed
from power, the Washington Post reported on Saturday.
The
paper quoted unnamed people familiar with the discussions as saying that the
request by American officials was not aimed at pushing Ukraine to the
negotiating table, but a calculated attempt to ensure Kyiv maintains the
support of other nations facing constituencies wary of fueling a war for many
years to come.
It
said the discussions illustrated the complexity of the Biden administration’s
position on Ukraine, as U.S. officials publicly vow to support Kyiv with
massive sums of aid "for as long as it takes" while hoping for a
resolution to the eight-month conflict that has taken a big toll on the world
economy and triggered fears of nuclear war.

In
run-up to midterms, Muslim groups, mosques push for voter engagement
By
Alejandra Molina
November

(RNS)
— Community organizer Nada Al-Hanooti insists local city council politics hold
just as much power as elections on the national and federal levels.
As
proof, she cites voter outreach efforts in Southeast Michigan that in 2021
helped elect the city of Dearborn’s first Arab American mayor, Abdullah
Hammoud, as well as four other council members that Emgage’s Michigan chapter
endorsed. Newly elected Councilman Mustapha Hammoud, in turn, introduced a
resolution this year that made it possible for the city of Dearborn to provide
ballots and election instructions in Arabic. The city of Hamtramck followed.
“The
local work is allowing us to expand voting rights so more people can vote for
our candidates,” said Al-Hanooti, executive director of Emgage’s Michigan
chapter, an organization that educates and mobilizes Muslim American voters.

Late

How
Streamers Are Making Culver City a New Dining Mecca
BY
EVAN NICOLE BROWN
NOVEMBER

In
recent years, Culver City — known for its small-town vibe within the larger
L.A. megalopolis — has welcomed a growing number of new-media companies to its
streets, including Amazon Studios, Apple and TikTok, plus HBO and other
divisions of Warner Bros. Discovery. This entertainment industry influx — which
is bringing an estimated 7,500 to 9,500 jobs to the city of 40,000 — is now
amping up the restaurant business there, especially as more employees return to
office life.
“I
had two emails from Apple today about [booking] dinners,” says chef Akasha
Richmond of Akasha restaurant, which opened in 2008. “One for 90 people and
another person emailed about a dinner for 27.”
At
lunch hour, Platform LA — a 6-year-old boutique mall that includes stores and
restaurants — is packed with entertainment staffers, says Patrizio Spagnoletto,
global CMO at Warner Bros. Discovery. “It’s the stomping ground of people who
are in the industry. It feels like a mini-Hollywood outside of Hollywood,” he
says. “I always recognize a lot of people who are there from Amazon and Apple.
If I had a confidential conversation [I needed to have], I would not go there.”

Suicide attackers, on the other hand, are deprived of a proper burial as there

‘In
Search of the Divine’: Where Sufism’s syncretic legacy meets author Rana
Safvi’s personal faith
Urmi
Chanda
05-11-2022
“Ye
ishq ne dekhahai, ye aql se pinhanhai…”
“It
is revealed to love, reason can’t see it…”
The
opening line of this ghazal by 19th century poet Asghar Gondvi is perhaps an
apt encapsulation of the essence of Sufism, for this mystical path of Islam is,
after all, a path of the heart. Overtly different from the jurisprudential face
of Islam, which seems to be all about strict adherence to the shariah, Sufism
is languid and fluid.
A
great stream of traditions big and small, Sufism has flowed through the Indian
subcontinent for centuries, bringing all manner of people into its fold. In her
latest book, In Search of the Divine: Living Histories of Sufism in India, Rana
Safvi takes a close look at this esoteric clutch of Islamic beliefs and
practices, also known as Tasawwuf.
Safvi
is a prolific writer, having close to a dozen books to her name, many of them
being on historical and Islamic themes. Safvi plays to her strengths in this
book too, examining Sufism from the point of view of history and Islam.
However, what is special about this endeavour is that she weaves in elements of
her personal faith, allowing her readers a glimpse of the person that she is.

By
Abhishek Mishra: Political parties in Uttar Pradesh are all geared up for the
urban local body polls expected to be held in or before December 2022. The
ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is planning to do a new experiment in the
urban body elections, which are being seen as the semi-finals of the 2023 Lok

This

lotus never bloomed. In order to win these seats, the BJP is planning to field
Muslim candidates for the post of president in more than 60 Nagar Palika Parishad

Likewise,
there are around 300 such wards in Uttar Pradesh which are Muslim-dominated and
the BJP has not fielded its candidate in these wards for a long time. According
to sources, the main target of the party will be fielding Pasmanda Muslims,
through which the BJP will try to establish a base in such wards.

Iran

SETH J. FRANTZMAN
NOVEMBER

Iran
appears to be upping rhetoric against foreign media that it accuses of backing
protests. The Iranian regime has faced protests now for more than a month and a
half.
As
Tehran considers that the protests will continue, it wants to find a way to
shut off support that doesn’t involve a violent crackdown. This is because,
although the regime has killed numerous protesters, it is trying to “manage”
the protests, without the massacre of thousands.
Now
the regime wants the foreign reporting to stop and it wants any media that is
either in Persian abroad that backs the demonstrators, or dissident media, to

French
Town Experiences Turmoil Over Public Islamic Religious Tributes
by
RENÉ TER STEEGE
November
5, 2022
One
does not have to believe in the theory of the “great replacement” to take
seriously the gradual disappearance of the French from towns where immigrants
democratically took power.
Like
in the town of Stains, just north of Paris, where the mayor, AzzédineTaïba, and
alderman, MaïmounaHaïdara, back the initiative of community activist
HouriaSeddiki to name a street after the first wife of the Prophet Muhammad.
There was no opposition to speak of, at least in local politics, as all 12
members of the left-wing city council are of Arabic and African origin — not a
single one carries a traditional French name.
In
this town of about 40,000 inhabitants, once solidly communist territory, like
other suburbs of the capital, such a quasi-official tribute to the prophet,
albeit indirectly, would have been unthinkable only a few years ago. It
illustrates how immigration from Muslim countries has dented the once-proud
French tradition, respected by both the Left and the Right, of secularism.

found," the minister wrote in a letter to the Tweede Kamer. In the past 10
years, nine inspection reports have been issued into the administrative actions
of the organization. According to Wiersma, this shows that "these board
members are not capable of properly running a school."
The
board must resign by May 2023 at the latest. The minister also wants the
Islamic school umbrella to strengthen the board as soon as possible with three
supervisory board members and to appoint a director before the end of this
school year. The As-Siddieq schools fall under the ISA. These are the primary
schools al Maes in Amsterdam-West, al Jawhara in Amsterdam-Oost and al Yaqoet
in Amsterdam-Noord.

Muslim-Muslim

The
Chairman, Northern States Christian Elders Forum, OyinehiEjoga, on Saturday
asked Christians to reject the All Progressives Congress’ Muslim-Muslim
presidential ticket or they would become politically irrelevant in future
elections.
Speaking
while addressing delegates at the NOSCEF national congress in Kaduna, Ejoga
said the insistence of the APC and its presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola
Tinubu, to go with the same faith ticket showed the party had no respect for
Christians in the country.
Tinubu’s
choice of a fellow Muslim, Senator KashimShettima, who is a former governor of
Borno State, had sparked public debate, with many Nigerians describing it as an
attempt to malign Christians.

Pakistan
may become unbearably hot by end of the century
Imran

November
6, 2022
KARACHI:
Even as the government prepares to make a case for climate justice at the UN
climate conference (COP27) that starts today (Sunday), an alarming new United
Nations report predicts that Pakistan’s average annual temperature will
increase to 22.4 degrees Celsius within the next decade and a half, and would
cross the 26oC threshold by the end of the century.
The
fresh report also warns that on average, the number of hot days in a year —
i.e. when the temperature remains above 35 Celsius — will be 124 by the end of
2030, and this number will rise to 179 by the year 2099.
At
35 Celsius, the human body struggles to cool down through perspiration alone —
hence raising the risk of death from overheating.

PM
asks for full court to look into Imran’s assassination claims

November
6, 2022
LAHORE:
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has sought constitution of a ‘full court
commission’ of the apex court to probe into Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI)
chief Imran Khan’s allegations that the premier, interior minister and a senior
military officer are responsible for the assassination bid on him in Wazirabad.
Later,
in a high-level meeting presided over by the PM, it was decided that in light
of the Friday night statement of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR),
the federal government would initiate legal action against Imran Khan and other
PTI leaders for issuing false statements against the state and its
institutions. The PM had earlier in the day hinted at taking such action.
Hours
after Mr Khan had addressed the nation from the hospital on Friday and once
again accused the PM, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and a senior
intelligence agency officer of hatching a conspiracy to eliminate him, the ISPR
had issued a strongly worded statement, rejecting the “baseless and
irresponsible” allegations by the PTI chairman against the military.

KARACHI:
While mainstream political parties in the country claim to be true democratic
forces and entities, former chairman of Senate and senior PPP leader Senator
Raza Rabbani made a candid admission on Saturday that all key political
stakeholders “look to the establishment even today” to gain power and allow the
establishment to violate the Constitution for that objective.
The
strong remarks by the PPP stalwart came with the insistence that there was ‘no
exception’ in this even including his own political party, and expressed the
regret that the powerful establishment in Pakistan was now enjoying a “creeping
dominance” everywhere.
At
the launch of a memoir titled Pakistan in an Age of Turbulence written by
former ambassador Dr Masuma Hasan held at the Pakistan Institute of
International Affairs, Senator Rabbani candidly shared his experiences as a
political worker, a parliamentarian and a concerned citizen who had witnessed
the fast eroding space for the true democratic forces in the country.

Bangladesh
Economy in Crisis, But $4.5 Billion IMF loan may be Double-edged Sword
People’s
Reporter
05
Nov 2022
Bangladesh
has applied for a total of US $4.5 billion loan assistance from the
International Monetary Fund (IMF) to deal with the ongoing economic crisis.
This amount is equivalent to 42 thousand 750 crores in Bangladeshi currency (95
rupees per dollar). The economy of Bangladesh is under pressure from various
aspects, including the continuous increase in commodity prices, energy crisis,
dollar crisis in banks, decrease in expatriate income, declining reserves,
massive money laundering, rising debt defaults, and collapse in export
earnings.
In
such a situation, the Bangladesh government sent a letter to the IMF last July
asking for loan assistance. A delegation of ten members led by Rahul Anand, the
head of Asian and Pacific department of the organisation, came to Dhaka on
October 26 to discuss the loan assistance. The delegation has been meeting with
various government departments since October 26. The meetings will continue till
November 9. They have already held discussions with the Finance Ministry,
Bangladesh Bank, Electricity Department, Commerce Ministry and National Board
of Revenue (NBR).
Earlier,
Bangladesh had taken loan assistance from the IMF four times. The first loan
was taken in 1990-91. After that, Bangladesh took loans from the organisation
in 2003-2004, 2011-12, and lastly, in 2020-21. However, the loan amount has
never been beyond 100 million dollars. This time, Bangladesh has applied for
loan assistance of 4.5 billion US dollars, breaking all previous records.

Dont
want to use ‘fake fielding’ as excuse for loss against India, says Bangladesh’s
technical consultant Sridharan Sriram
By:
PTI
November
5, 2022
Bangladesh’s
technical consultant Sridharan Sriram on Saturday conceded that his side
crumbled under pressure against India, adding that the team doesn’t want to use
the “fake fielding” episode as an excuse for the loss against the neighbors in
the ongoing T20 World Cup.
Set
a revised target of 151 in 16 overs after a brief spell of rain, Bangladesh had
fell short by five runs against India. Bangladesh wicketkeeper batter Nurul
Hasan, who kept his side in the game in the final over with a six and a four off
Arshdeep Singh, later accused star India batter Virat Kohli of “fake fielding.”
Criticizing
the on-field umpires after the game, Hasan alleged that they failed to notice
an incident of “fake fielding” by Kohli, which could have earned them five
runs. “No, we are not here to offer any excuses. I did speak to the fourth
umpire as soon as it happened,” Sriram said at the pre-match press conference
ahead of Bangladesh’s game against Pakistan. “But I think it was the on-field
umpire’s call, and that’s what we were told, but we’re not here to offer any
excuses,” he added.
