"Will Be A Historic Day": Mohammad Habib, a
Muslim Kar Sevak On Getting, ‘Akshata' of Ram Temple Inauguration
Ayodhya Ram Temple
-----
January 07, 2024
Lucknow: Mohammad Habib got emotional as some
unbroken, uncooked grains of rice and a letter came for him from miles away in
Ayodhya. Along with that came a photo of the Ram temple in the holy city.
"I became emotional as I got the 'akshata',"
the 70-year-old former 'karsevak', who has also held various posts in the
district unit of the BJP, told news agency PTI from Mirzapur.
The 'akshata', the letter (patram), and the Ram temple
photo have been sent from Ayodhya as the city prepares for the grand consecration
ceremony on January 22. He will watch the ceremony on his TV and will visit the
temple any day after January 22, as has been urged by Prime Minister Narendra
Modi.
He says he was a 'karsevak' and stayed in Ayodhya for
4-5 days from December 2, 1992, with "my group of people". The Babari
mosque was brought down on December 6, 1992, sparking a countrywide riot.
The protracted legal battle between Hindu and Muslim
sides settled on November 9, 2019, when a Supreme Court order paved the way for
the construction of a Ram temple by a government trust at the disputed site in
Ayodhya and ruled that an alternative five-acre plot must be found for a mosque
in the Hindu holy town.
The consecration ceremony at the temple has been
scheduled for January 22. "It will be a historic day for everyone,"
Mr Habib says. "We have got this date after a lot of 'tapasya' and a lot
of battles."
"I am an old-timer of the BJP. After almost 32
years, I have got the results, and old memories have revived. I along with my
group of people stayed in Ayodhya for 4-5 days from December 2, 1992
onwards," he said.
Mr Habib says he considers Lord Ram his ancestor.
"And remembering ancestors is Bhartiyata (Indianness)'." In
Mirzapur's neighbouring district of Varanasi, social worker Nazneen Ansari, who
runs her Muslim Mahila Foundation which works for the welfare of Muslim women,
is also happy. As is her associate Najma.
They have decided to bring Ram Jyoti (special diyas)
from Ayodhya and distribute them among 400-500 families -- both Hindus and
Muslims -- in Varanasi.
"We will bring the Jyoti of Lord Shri Ram and
give it to Hindu and Muslim families in Kashi, and will appeal to them to keep
it burning uninterrupted till January 22. This is because not a single person
here can say that Lord Ram is not our ancestor. Lord Ram resides in each and
every particle. We all know that we can change our religions, but we cannot
change our ancestors. Lord Ram will be consecrated in Ayodhya, what could be
more joyful than this," Najma told PTI.
Nazneen Ansari says they have "seen a period of
hatred where it was scary to take the name of Ram temple. And, today we are
also seeing happiness across the country because of the construction of Ram
Mandir. I am feeling very happy because of that."
Mr Ansari says she started following Lord Ram
following blasts in the SankatMochan temple in Varanasi in 2006. The bomb
blasts at the temple and the cantonment railway station had left at least 20
people dead.
"I along with 70 Muslim women went to the
SankatMochan temple and recited Hanuman Chalisa," she said, adding she
will watch the consecration ceremony on TV.
But Iqbal Ansari of Ayodhya, who represented the
Muslim side in the Ram temple-Babri mosque dispute case, will be among the
audience who will be present at the consecration ceremony.
He has got an official invitation from the authorities
for the consecration ceremony. "Ayodhya has always symbolised Ganga-Jamuni
tehzeeb (a culture of peaceful coexistence). The harmony that exists in Ayodhya
is also in me. I welcomed the person who came to give the invitation card to
me," Ansari told PTI from Ayodhya.
"When the Supreme Court gave its judgment on
November 9, 2019, the Muslims of the entire country welcomed it. There were no
protests nor any agitation anywhere in the country. All these issues have ended
on November 9, 2019," the 55-year-old advocate told PTI.
Ansari, whose family has been living in Ayodhya for
the past 100 years, said whatever is happening in Ayodhya is historic, and
added that development is taking place in the temple town.
Ganga Singh, RSS' Sampark Pramukh Avadh Prant, who
delivered the invitation to Iqbal Ansari, told PTI, "He (Iqbal Ansari)
accepted the card with enthusiasm and respect. He said that he would come to
attend the praanpratishtha and also have a darshan of Ram Lalla." The
advocate's father Hashim Ansari, the oldest litigant in the land dispute case,
died at the age of 95 in 2016, after which Iqbal started pursuing the case in
court.

Ram Temple Should Not Be a “Tool For Political
Propaganda”, Says Jamaat-e-Islami Hind
Bhagwan Ram Statue
-----
January 06, 2024
ZIYA US SALAM
Leading Muslim body, the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, has
voiced concern over the scheduled Ram Mandir inauguration on January 22
becoming a “tool for political propaganda” and a “means of reaping electoral
dividends”.
Speaking to the media, Jamaat’s vice-president Salim
Engineer cautioned against attempts at polarisation in the name of the temple.
“The remark by the general secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi TeerthKshetra
Trust comparing the upcoming inauguration of the temple with our Independence
Day is erroneous and mischievous. It tries to set an ‘us versus them’ narrative
and polarise the country along religious grounds. The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind
condemns such interpretations of the event,” Mr. Engineer stated.

Hamas, Palestinian Authority, and UNRWA Educate Gaza
Schoolchildren for Jihad

By Peter Berkowitz
07-01-2024
Gaza Strip schools fostered the depraved sensibility
that fuelled the Oct. 7 butchery perpetrated by Hamas jihadists in southern
Israel. While Hamas exercised dictatorial authority over the whole of jihadist
indoctrination in Gaza, the Palestinian Authority (PA) produced the textbooks
and lesson plans, and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in
significant measure administered the schools. The defeat of jihadism in Gaza
will not be complete without a fundamental reorientation of its educational
system.
Given U.S. interests in Middle East stability in
general and the post-Israel-Hamas war reconstruction of Gaza in particular,
American policymakers must grasp the preaching of hatred, violence, and
Islamist supremacy woven into Gaza education. One obstacle is that many U.S.
diplomats – even more the younger career foreign service officers who staff
them – will have been indoctrinated at American universities in opinions and
ideas that bear an uncanny resemblance to certain ugly dogmas championed by the
jihadists.
IMPACT-se (Institute for Monitoring Peace and Cultural
Tolerance in School Education) provides indispensable English language
documentation of the training for terrorism inscribed in UNRWA Arabic language
textbooks and other Hamas educational materials. The training falsifies
history, encourages submission to government-sanctioned doctrines, and fosters
loathing of Jews, Israel, America, and the freedom and democracy central to the
West. Hamas’ savage rampage on Oct. 7 through Israel’s border communities was
not a hideous departure from central tenets of Gazan education but rather gave
faithful expression to them.
In “Al-Fateh – The Hamas Web Magazine for Children:
Indoctrination to Jihad, Annihilation and Self-Destruction,” IMPACT-se examined
145 of the Hamas publication’s issues, from September 2002 to April 2009.
Al-Fateh’s “consistent educational message to its young readers,” according to
IMPACT-se, “mirrors that of the Hamas movement’s ideology and includes scathing
hatred, disdain, delegitimization and demonization of the other – the West,
especially the US and Europe, the Jews, Israel and Zionism – as well as a call
for establishing an Islamic state in entire Palestine and the annihilation of
the State of Israel through violent liberation of the land in jihad.”
Al-Fateh – in Arabic, “The Conqueror” – portrays “Jews
as enemies of mankind and killers of prophets,” IMPACT-se shows. Rejecting
compromise, negotiations, and peace agreements – those in operation and the
pursuit of new ones – Al-Fateh advocates “total commitment to an armed and
violent jihad, especially of the suicidal kind.” Through “its pervasive
indoctrination of the younger generation into the cult of martyrdom,” Al-Fateh
contributed to forming “the next generation of suicide bombers to join the
violent jihad.”
Many Oct. 7 jihadists – who murdered Israeli parents
in front of their children and Israeli children in front of their parents;
humiliated, maimed, and raped Jewish women; mutilated corpses; and kidnapped
mostly civilians – and many Gaza Palestinians who cheered on the sadistic
killers grew up on Al-Fateh’s poisonous tenets. They learned from the Hamas
magazine that Israel and the United States, along with their friends and partners,
are evil and implacable adversaries: “the Jewish enemy kills our people in
beloved Palestine, while the United States, Britain and the other European
countries, and India help it.” They read that the United States is an
omnipresent and insidious menace: “America is the terror, my child … she is the
plague that destroys my liver … she is the viper that scatters poison inside
me.” And they were informed that Islam confronts a globe-spanning war: “Muslims
and their children everywhere are under a siege of injustice – in beloved
imprisoned Palestine, in wounded Afghanistan, in Kashmir, in Chechnya, and in
other parts of the world which are controlled by the most despicable of God’s
creatures: the Jews, and their agents in crusader America.”
In “Review of 2022 UNRWA-Produced Study Materials in
the Palestinian Territories,” IMPACT-se surveyed the curriculum overseen by
UNRWA in West Bank and Jerusalem schools as well as those in Gaza. Contrary to
the UN charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which affirm
basic rights and fundamental freedoms, UNRWA’s Palestinian schools promulgate
intolerance and Islamic supremacy. UNRWA education features “a systematic
insertion of violence, martyrdom, overt antisemitism, and jihad across all
grades and subjects, with the proliferation of extreme nationalism and Islamist
ideologies throughout the curriculum, including science and math textbooks;
rejection of the possibility of peace with Israel; and the complete omission of
any historical Jewish presence in the modern-day territories of Israel and the
PA.”
IMPACT-se released “UNRWA Education: Text Books and
Terror” in November 2023. In addition to detailing praise that UNRWA staff
members heaped on Hamas terrorists for the Oct. 7 slaughter and the role played
by UNRWA school graduates in the barbarities, the report examines UNRWA
educational materials that “either harness antisemitism or encourage martyrdom
or violent jihad.”
For example, UNRWA teachers develop students’ reading
comprehension through a story that celebrates suicide bombers and the
decapitation of Israeli soldiers. A map for fourth graders in UNRWA schools
erases Israel by placing a Palestinian flag over all the land between the
Jordan river and the Mediterranean Sea. A fifth-grade reading lesson, “Hooray
for the Heroes,” glorifies Palestinians “associated with war, violence,
religious extremism, and Terrorism” but “does not include scientists, doctors,
engineers, or athletes.” UNRWA schools teach sixth-grade students that “The
Zionists are the terrorists of the modern age, and they are fated to
disappear.”
In addition, documents IMPACT-se, UNRWA teachers
instruct students that in Israel’s 1948 War of Independence – five invading
Arab armies sought to annihilate the newborn Jewish state – Zionists were compelled
by Jewish religious belief to massacre Arabs. UNRWA school lessons disparage
peaceful lives while glorifying martyrdom in the fight against infidels (most
prominently Jews and Christians) as a noble act that Allah will reward in
heaven. Gazan students learn that jihad to liberate Palestine is a “private
obligation for every Muslim.” That obligation emphatically includes girls and
women: “Palestinian girls are encouraged to kill, be killed, and send their
children to die.”
Israel’s destruction of Hamas as a fighting force and
governing authority in Gaza will provide at best temporary reprieve if, after
major military operations end, the PA and UNRWA continue to propagate jihadism
through the schools. The United States would be in a better position to assist
in thwarting this abuse of UN institutions and Palestinian children if
America’s own educational system were not itself saturated with concepts that
bear an alarming resemblance to those of jihadist indoctrination.
Although the U.S. public only recently has taken
serious notice of the problem, American colleges and universities have for many
years promulgated as campus orthodoxy the multilayered accusation that the
country is divided into white oppressors and oppressed people of color, that
the American political system is racist to its core, and that social justice
requires redistributing wealth and power by discriminating based on race.
Institutions of higher education that have abandoned their mission, which is to
transmit knowledge and cultivate independent thinking, in favor of the
reproduction of hard-left ideology, cannot be expected to form diplomats
capable of grasping the harms caused by the UN-sponsored Palestinian education
for jihad or of possessing the judgment and motivation to implement the
urgently needed correctives.
For the Punjab Assembly, out of the 264 TLP
candidates, only one came second while the rest lost the elections. However the
party managed to get two MPA seats in Sindh out of 67 candidates who contested
the polls.

Pro-Palestine Protesters Block Bridge Outside UK Parliament
People in London take part in
a protest in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza [Hollie Adams/Reuters]
------
6 Jan 2024
Hundreds of pro-Palestine demonstrators blocked access
to a bridge near the British parliament on Saturday, calling for a ceasefire in
Gaza in an act of civil disobedience.
London, like other Western cities, has seen regular
and sometimes large demonstrations calling for an end to Israel’s bombardment
of the besieged strip.
Police clashed with the protesters, who occupied
surrounding roads after they were prevented from marching across Westminster
Bridge, where they had planned to unfurl banners.
Police said they had imposed a legal order limiting
the location of the protests and that by 3pm (15:00 GMT) people had begun to
disperse. Those who refused to comply with an order to leave could be arrested,
police said.
Saturday’s action, the first major demonstration of
the new year, was smaller than previous mass marches but comes two days before
the UK Parliament returns to work after its Christmas break.
The protest was designed to push politicians to adopt
a harder stance towards Israel in its war on Gaza, which has killed more than
22,700 Palestinians in three months.

Saudi Arabia: 30 Tonnes Of Perfume Used Daily At Prophet’s
Mosque
The devices, installed by
the Medina Development Authority, have also been launched in a seating area
near stores on the northern side of the mosque.
----
January 07, 2024
Ramadan Al Sherbini
Cairo: Saudi authorities daily use 115 tonnes of rug
sterilisation substances and 30 tonnes of perfume at the Prophet’s Mosque,
Islam’s second holiest site in Medina, a major destination for the Muslim
faithful from around the world.
Fawzi Al Hujaili, Deputy chief of the General
Authority for Care of the Two Holy Mosques for Services, cited daily programmes
implemented at the Prophet’s Mosque for sterilisation and disinfection.
“The quantities used for scenting at the mosque reach
30 tonnes daily while those for sterilising rugs near 115 tonnes and 110 tonnes
for disinfecting the floors,” he told Saudi news TV Al Ekhbariya.
“The equipment used for disinfection, sterilisation
and floor washing exceeds 600 devices, each operating independently with
well-trained workers,” the official added.
After undertaking rites of Umrah or minor pilgrimage
at the Grand Mosque, Islam’s holiest site in Mecca, many pilgrims would flock
to the Prophet’s Mosque to pray and visit Al Rawda Al Sharifa where the tomb of
the Prophet Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him) is located.
Around 5.2 million Muslims offered prayers at the
Prophet’s Mosque in one week, according to official figures released late last
month. Saudi Arabia expects around 10 million Muslims from abroad to perform
Umrah during the current season that began more than six months ago.
Last April, Saudi authorities unveiled a gilded brass
barrier surrounding the Sacred Chamber at the Prophet’s Mosque. The barrier
replaced a wooden barrier to preserve the visual identity and architectural
pattern of the Mosque, officials said at the time.
The barrier has posts fixed to the bottom base by
internal props, guaranteeing its immovability under pressure.

Man held for offering ‘azan’ in 250-year-old ‘mosque’
in UP
Jan 7, 2024
Shamli: A man was arrested and sent to jail on
Saturday for allegedly offering 'azan' at a 250-year-old dilapidated structure
spread across nearly 4 bighas in UP's Shamli, considered by many as a
Mughal-era mosque.
Shamli SP, Abhishek (who goes by his first name),
said, "The accused, identified as Umar Qureshi, is a resident of
Jalalabad. He was booked under IPC section 505 (2) (promoting enmity) and IT
Act following a complaint by Neeraj Kumar, a representative of a village head
in Gausgarh."
A local police officer said Qureshi, in his early 20s,
went to the unused site on Friday and tried to perform prayers, thereby
violating a 1940 British order. He also filmed and circulated a video of it on
social media.
The cop said, "Though the structure, partly in
ruins, still exists today, a section of the majority community associates it
with Manahar rajas. Others claim it is a mosque."

Islamic Jihad: US Complicit in Israeli Atrocities, Not
Fit to Mediate in Gaza Crisis
2024-January-7
Anwar Abuta, a senior leader of the movement, on
Saturday night underlined the need for the immediate cessation of Israeli
aerial and ground strikes against Gaza, describing the withdrawal of Israeli
troopers as one of the required provisions for the start of negotiations on
exchange of Palestinian prisoners and Israeli captives, presstv reported.
He denounced as “unacceptable” any talks about the
post-war situation in Gaza and governance issues, stressing that the Israeli
assassination of Senior Hamas Official Saleh Al-Arouri and a number of
resistance commanders in Lebanon brought mediations about a possible prisoner
swap to a standstill.
“We welcome any initiative aimed at stopping the
Israeli aggression against our nation. Complete cessation of Israeli attacks
and pullout of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip are the prerequisites for any
prisoner exchange negotiations to rekindle,” Abuta pointed out.
“The policy of assassinating resistance commanders
conclusively demonstrates the scale of the crisis that Israel is experiencing.
The resistance front, however, will be unfazed by such acts of terror, and
targeted killings will not manage to prevent it from fulfilling its duties,”
the Islamic Jihad leader said.

Video Shows Moment Bomb Blast Ripped Through Busy Iran

commemorating former Revolutionary Guards chief Qasem Soleimani four years
after he died in a US strike.
This attack unfolded during a memorial ceremony near

was killed in a US drone strike in Iraq in January 2020.
A video of the attack has surfaced online, reportedly
showing the moment one of the bombs went off. The video opens on a busy street,
with a bus slowly making a turn. Right then a massive blast takes place in the

Israel, Gaza, Lebanon, Iran … how far could war in the
Middle East spread?
Peter Beaumont
7 Jan 2024
Mohammad Atout, a Palestinian resident of the Burj
al-Barajneh refugee camp in Beirut, was eating with his children on Tuesday
evening when the news broke across the Lebanese capital that Saleh al-Arouri,
deputy head of Hamas’s political bureau, had been assassinated.
“Someone told me there had been an attack [in Beirut].
Moments later the television said it was Arouri. Then people came out in the
streets. It hit them very hard. He was an important leader for us.”
In the coffee shop he owns, which opens on to a street
decorated with Palestinian banners, his customers have been watching Al Jazeera
footage of the war in Gaza.
“We never thought that the Israelis would dare to do
this in Beirut,” Atout says. He believes the reason for Arouri’s killing was
Israel’s failure to find and kill Hamas’s leaders inside Gaza, including the
head of the movement, Yahya Sinwar.

Labour demands Rishi Sunak come clean over Rwanda
scheme documents
By Mikey Smith
6 Jan 2024
Labour demanded Rishi Sunak come clean over documents
it’s claimed show he had reservations about the Rwanda scheme.
The BBC said it had seen No 10 papers from March 2022,
a month before the plan was announced by then Prime Minister Boris Johnson,
which showed that Mr Sunak was not convinced of the plan's effectiveness. But
since becoming PM in October 2022, Mr Sunak has made the Rwanda plan one of his
top priorities despite a string of delays due to legal challenges.
The documents suggest Mr Sunak felt "hotels are
cheaper" than reception centres to house migrants and that he was also
concerned about the cost of sending asylum seekers to Africa and wanted to limit
the numbers. The BBC said the documents revealed the "chancellor wants to
pursue smaller volumes initially" with 500 flown to Rwanda in the first
year of the scheme, instead of the proposed 1,500.

Police Investigate UK Post Office after IT Problem
Leads to Wrongful Theft Accusations
January 07, 2024
LONDON — U.K. police have opened a fraud investigation
into Britain's Post Office over a miscarriage of justice that saw hundreds of
postmasters wrongfully accused of stealing money when a faulty computer system
was to blame.
The Metropolitan Police force said late Friday that it
is investigating "potential fraud offences arising out of these
prosecutions," relating to money the Post Office received "as a
result of prosecutions or civil actions" against accused postal workers.
Police also are investigating potential offenses of
perjury and perverting the course of justice over investigations and
prosecutions carried out by the Post Office.
Between 1999 and 2015, more than 700 post office
branch managers were accused of theft or fraud because computers wrongly showed
that money was missing. Many were financially ruined after being forced to pay
large sums to the company, and some were convicted and sent to prison. Several
killed themselves.

Uyghur Muslims question OIC’s silence over China’s
campaign against Islam in East Turkistan
January 6, 2024
Washington: The duplicity of the Organization of Islamic
Cooperation (OIC) has been called out by the East Turkistan Government-in-Exile
(ETGE) which condemned the grouping of 57 Islamic nations for working to build
relations with China despite the latter’s ongoing genocidal campaign against
Uyghur Muslims.
The ETGE reminded the OIC about how China is involved
in crushing Muslims and Islam in occupied East Turkistan and asked why the
Muslim world is silent over these developments.
The ETGE said it “vehemently condemns” the recent
meeting of OIC Secretary-General HisseinBrahim Taha with IlzatAhmatjan,
Permanent Member of the Chinese Communist Party Committee in Occupied East
Turkistan at the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah.
“This meeting, which discussed further cooperation and
the strengthening of relations between the OIC and the People’s Republic of
China, comes amid China’s ongoing campaign of colonization, genocide, and
occupation in the predominantly Muslim nation of East Turkistan,” it said in a
statement.

Why the US Supreme Court should allow Muslim man on No
Fly List to sue FBI
GADEIR ABBAS
07-01-2024
This week, on behalf of an innocent American Muslim
unjustly targeted by our government’s secret list of Muslims, I will argue
YonasFikre’s case at the US Supreme Court. The case is about the Federal Bureau
of Investigations (FBI)'s decision to put our peaceful, law-abiding client on a
list—the No Fly List—that has for years prevented him from flying home to the
United States from abroad after what was supposed to be a short business trip.
Years after the Council on American-Islamic Relations
(CAIR) filed a lawsuit, the government removed Fikre from the list without
explanation and has repeatedly asked the courts to end the case.
We’re fighting to continue the case because the legal
issues are so important—for the rights of our client, yes, but also for all of
our rights everywhere.
The No Fly List is a secret list that the US
government makes and distributes to prevent the people listed from boarding a
flight that travels through US airspace. There are hundreds of thousands of
names on this No Fly List and, based on our close study of a leaked copy of the
list, we estimate that about 98 percent of the listed names are Muslim names.

US temporarily grounds Boeing 737 MAX 9 planes after
mid-flight blowout
6 January 2024
U.S. regulators have ordered the temporary grounding
of 171 Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft following a cabin panel blowout late Friday
that forced a brand-new airplane operated by Alaska Airlines to make an emergency
landing.
“The FAA is requiring immediate inspections of certain
Boeing 737 MAX 9 planes before they can return to flight,” FAA Administrator
Mike Whitaker said on Saturday. “Safety will continue to drive our
decision-making as we assist the NTSB’s investigation into Alaska Airlines
Flight 1282.”
The piece of fuselage tore off the left side of the
jet as it climbed out of Portland, Oregon, en route for Ontario in California
on Friday, forcing pilots to turn back and land safely with 171 passengers and six
crew on board.

Biden officials were unaware US defence secretary was
in hospital
07 JAN, 2024
Senior Biden administration leaders, top Pentagon
officials and members of Congress were unaware for days that US defence
secretary Lloyd Austin had been in hospital since Monday, US officials said, as
questions swirled about his condition and the secrecy surrounding it.
The Pentagon did not inform the White House National
Security Council or top adviser Jake Sullivan of Mr Austin’s hospital admission
at Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre in Bethesda, Maryland, until
Thursday, according to two administration officials.
The Pentagon’s failure to disclose Mr Austin’s
hospital admission for days reflects a stunning lack of transparency about his
illness, how serious it was and when he may be released.

Trump downplays January 6 on the anniversary of the
Capitol siege and calls jailed rioters 'hostages'
Jan 7, 2024
NEWTON: Former President Donald Trump, campaigning in
Iowa Saturday, marked the third anniversary of the January 6, 2021 assault on
the US Capitol by casting the migrant surge on the southern border as the
"real" insurrection.
Just over a week before the Republican nomination
process begins with Iowa's kickoff caucuses, Trump continued to claim that
countries have been emptying jails and mental institutions to fuel a record
number of migrant crossings. There is no evidence that this is the case.
"When you talk about insurrection, what they're
doing, that's the real deal. That's the real deal. Not patriotically and
peacefully - peacefully and patriotically," Trump said, quoting from his
speech on January 6, before a violent mob of his supporters stormed the Capitol
as part of a desperate bid to keep him in power after his 2020 election loss.
Trump's remarks came a day after Biden delivered a
speech near Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, where he cast Trump as a grave threat
to democracy and called January 6 a day when "we nearly lost America -
lost it all."

US top court agrees to hear Trump Colorado ballot
appeal
Jan 7, 2024
The US Supreme Court agreed to consider whether
Colorado can bar Donald Trump from the presidential ballot, taking up a
landmark constitutional and political clash stemming from his attempt to
overturn the 2020 election.
The justices will hear the case on an expedited basis,
with arguments on Feb 8. They will review a Colorado Supreme Court decision
that said Trump engaged in insurrection - and forfeited his right to run for
president again - by trying to nullify Joe Biden's election victory and
inciting the deadly Jan 6, 2021, Capitol assault.
The clash over the Constitution's insurrection clause
promises to be a pivot point in Trump's bid to reclaim the White House. A broad
Supreme Court decision in the ex-president's favour would end efforts around
the country to remove him from the ballot. A ruling against Trump would raise
new questions about the viability of his candidacy.

Joe Biden launches campaign, equates ex-President to
Nazis
Jan 7, 2024
US president Joe Biden launched his harshest attack
yet on Donald Trump as he kickstarted his 2024 re-election campaign Friday,
accusing the Republican of echoing Nazi Germany and posing a threat to
democracy.
The 81-year-old Democrat branded his likely challenger
a "loser" and "sick" in a speech on the eve of the third
anniversary of the deadly January 6 Capitol attack by pro-Trump supporters.
"He's willing to sacrifice our democracy, put himself in power,"
Biden told supporters, alternating between whispers and furious shouts as he
laid into the man he beat in 2020.
Not only had the twice-impeached former president
instigated the Capitol attack, but the tycoon and his followers were still
embracing "political violence" ahead of the 2024 vote, said Biden.

Amid opposition, Vatican says blessings of same-sex
couples not endorsement of homosexuality
07-01-2024
After pushback by some bishops in Africa, Poland and
elsewhere, the Vatican on Thursday defended the recent move by Pope Francis to
allow blessings for same-sex couples, insisting there is nothing “heretical”
involved.
In a five-page statement, the Holy See’s office to
safeguard doctrinal orthodoxy expressed understanding that some bishops’
conferences need more time for “pastoral reflection” on the pontiff’s formal
approval for such blessings.
But “there is no room to distance ourselves
doctrinally” from the Declaration about the blessings “or to consider it
heretical, contrary to the Tradition of the Church or blasphemous," said
the statement by the office, formally called the Dicastery for the Doctrine of
the Faith.

TLP’s manifesto has much more to offer
Kalbe Ali
January 7, 2024
ISLAMABAD: Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) has
launched its 25-point manifesto for the upcoming elections, assuring that the
rights of religious minorities would be protected as per the Constitution.
While the TLP participated in the 2018 elections as a
flag bearer for upholding the respect and stature of Prophet Muhammad (peace be
upon him) as well as Islam, its participation in the 2024 elections appears to
be start of a new political journey.
Apart from launching the politically motivated
election manifesto 2024, the party leader, Hafiz Saad Hussain Rizvi, recently
introduced a new party flag that did not have the image of the shrine of
Prophet Muhammad (Roza-i-Rasool).
