Remarks by JamiatUlema-e-Hind president Maulana Syed Arshad Madani on jihad, religious freedom and the condition of Muslims in India drew attention during a community meeting in Uttarakhand’sHaridwar district on Tuesday.
Addressing the Uttarakhand state executive meeting in the PiranKaliyar area, Madani spoke about the role of Muslims in India’s freedom movement and argued that the concept of jihad had historically been associated with resisting oppression and slavery.
Speaking as the chief guest, Madani referred to the period of British rule and said, “In 1803, when our country was under slavery, the message of jihad was given for the country’s independence. To free the country, that is, to remove the chains of slavery from the neck, it is every Muslim’s duty to do jihad. This is a teaching that has come from madrasas, and whoever does not know this is ignorant.”
During his speech, the Jamiat chief also alleged that mosques were being demolished and claimed successive governments after Independence had harmed the interests of Muslims.
Madani said Muslims had made substantial contributions to India’s freedom struggle and national development. He added that the country’s future depended on mutual trust, peace and coexistence among communities.
The Jamiat leader questioned what Muslims had contributed to the nation and what they had received in return. He urged people to move away from hatred and embrace a politics centred on love and understanding.
According to him, compassion and goodwill are essential for maintaining national unity. He said those who live peacefully with others remain loyal to the country and suggested that the absence of such values weakens that bond.
Madani also referred to relief work undertaken by JamiatUlema-e-Hind during floods in West Bengal. He said food assistance was provided without discrimination to people from different religious backgrounds.
Citing incidents of violence in Delhi, he claimed Muslims had helped save lives and extended assistance without asking about anyone’s faith. He questioned whether such people could be labelled traitors.
The meeting concluded with discussions on education, community welfare and social unity. Religious leaders present at the event also appealed for peace and coexistence among different sections of society.

India strongly objected to Pakistan raising the Kashmir issue at a United Nations forum, accusing Islamabad of politicising the platform and also slammed it for misusing its position as co-chair instead of being unbiased, as behooves the position. The remarks were made by India’s Permanent Representative to the UN in New York, P Harish, in response to comments by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative, AsimIftikhar Ahmad. Responding to Pakistan’s intervention, Mr. Harish criticised the conduct of the co-chair and reiterated India’s long-standing position on Jammu and Kashmir. He added that Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is a matter strictly internal to India. TEHRAN, Jun. 24 (MNA) –Iran's parliament speaker said Wednesday the Ramadan war proved that extra-regional forces cannot provide security but instead fuel insecurity.

Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, speaking to reporters before departing for the 20th session of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) in the Azerbaijani capital, said the conference provides a timely platform for Iran to explain the changes wrought by the war and its regional repercussions to fellow Muslim legislators.
"In the past, there was a perception that forces and countries arriving from thousands of kilometres away could secure the region," Qalibaf said. "After the Ramadan war, it has become clear that not only are they unable to establish security, they themselves have become a factor of insecurity. We must seize this new perspective."
He said bilateral relations with Azerbaijan would also be on the agenda, offering condolences to the Azerbaijani people on the occasion of Muharram, the month marking the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS).
Qalibaf has played a central role in the diplomatic process, chairing Iran's negotiating team in the Pakistan-mediated talks that produced the June 18 ceasefire memorandum and attending follow-up discussions in Muscat with Oman's foreign minister this week.

Afghanistan Freedom Front Claims Attack on Taliban in Nuristan

The Afghanistan Freedom Front has claimed responsibility for a guerrilla attack against Taliban forces in the center of Wigal district in Afghanistan’s Nuristan province.
In a post on X on Wednesday, June 24, the group said the attack took place early the previous morning.
The Freedom Front stated that the assault lasted about 20 minutes and involved both light and heavy weapons.
It also claimed that the operation inflicted significant casualties and damage on Taliban forces.
According to the statement, none of its own fighters were harmed during the operation.
The group also said it had carried out another attack the previous day targeting Taliban morality police in Kabul.

Malaysia, Southeast Asia on red alert for severe haze risk in 2026, warns SIIA report

SINGAPORE, June 24 — Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and Singapore could face severe transboundary haze in the coming months as South-east Asia has been placed on red alert for an elevated haze risk, according to the Singapore Institute of International Affairs (SIIA).
In its Haze Outlook 2026 report released on Wednesday, SIIA identified August and September as the peak risk period, with the threat compounded by the El Niño and Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) weather phenomena.
This year’s red alert is only the second such rating issued since the outlook was launched in 2019, with the previous assessment issued in 2023.
The report highlighted growing concerns over the return of El Niño conditions in 2026 and the possibility of a stronger and more prolonged dry season.
“Some meteorologists have also warned of a potential positive IOD, which could further intensify hot and dry weather conditions and increase fire risks across South-east Asia,” it said in a statement issued in conjunction with the report’s release.
SIIA chairman Simon Tay said the challenge is to ensure that sustainable practices are maintained across entire supply chains, including by small and medium-sized enterprises that may be operating under greater economic pressure.
“There is much that can be done to prevent the worst and strengthen climate resilience, energy and food security, and regional cooperation,” he added.
According to the report, Indonesia has strengthened its institutional response to forest and land fires, including by establishing a new inter-agency Forest and Land Fire Coordination Desk and continuing efforts to improve monitoring, enforcement and community firefighting capabilities.
The report further emphasised that haze prevention should be viewed as part of a broader agenda of sustainable land management and climate adaptation.
“Recent fires in Johor and floods in Sumatra illustrate how land-use decisions can create wider environmental and economic vulnerabilities across the region,” it added.
In addition, the report called for stronger Asean cooperation and the effective implementation of existing commitments, including increased funding for haze prevention and sustainable land management, as well as greater collaboration among stakeholders.
“Asean needs to take greater ownership of this challenge as the region enters a potentially severe dry season and faces the longer-term impacts of climate change.

Trump’s Iran Deal Faces Scrutiny as Tehran Hails ‘Victory’

President Trump and Vice President Vance spent most of last week trying to convince Americans the “Memo of Understanding” (MOU) with Iran is a good deal for the United States and world peace. That’s not what Iran believes.
Hassan Khomeini, the grandson of the founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, has hailed the MOU as a major “victory” for Tehran. The “greater jihad” would now begin, he promised, according to a speech aired by Iranian state media last week. You read that correctly. The greater Jihad.
To some this might sound like the same propaganda we have heard from Iran since the start of the president’s bombing campaign (“War is peace” wrote George Orwell in his novel “1984” in which he creates “Doublethink,” the act of holding two completely contradictory beliefs in one’s mind at the same time, and accepting both as true). I n this case, the Iranians appear more believable than the administration.
Last Friday, a delegation headed by Vance that was supposed to go to Switzerland to sign the MOU, delayed the trip after reports that Iran had closed the Strait of Hormuz, blaming Israel’s refusal to leave Lebanon and the ongoing presence of U.S. forces in the region. Conflicting statements about the status of the Strait compounded the confusion. The formula for Iran, which has worked for them in the past, is that they demand everything and the U.S. thinks it can appease those who want to destroy Israel and us by giving them more than we get.
Here’s how they think as expressed in a statement read over maritime radio channels by the Revolutionary Guard Corps, now, apparently, put on hold, at least temporarily:
“Since Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanon, the complete lifting of the naval blockade, and the withdrawal of American terrorist forces from the Persian Gulf and the region are among the main conditions of the agreement between Iran and the United States, the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until these conditions are met. All ships are requested, for the sake of their security and safety, not to approach the Strait of Hormuz. Any vessel that defies this directive will be targeted.”
Trump and Vance have said Iran will get nothing from the MOU or any subsequent peace until they meet our conditions. If the Strait is closed again, gas prices will go back up and stocks will go back down. And the midterms would again look problematic for Republicans, not that Democrats could do any better.
Writing last week on Truth Social before the latest developments, the president again displayed his gift of overstatement and name calling: “These fools, who think I haven’t been tough enough on Iran, when the Stock Market just Hit A RECORD HIGH, and Oil prices are ‘tumbling’ down, are either jealous, bad people, or stupid.”
Without the deal, he wrote, “the alternative would be a world-wide depression.” At a Wednesday news conference the president, noting a Wall Street Journal editorial, seemed to admit that the Iranians had him over a barrel – of oil. If he had fought on, he said, the market “would go down at levels that nobody ever saw before, maybe except for 1929. … So rather than possibly going into a depression, rather than having your favorite president be Herbert Hoover, he was always the one I didn’t want to be.”
What to do now? The president has said repeatedly that if Iran refuses to live up to the MOU, he could start bombing again. If previous bombing didn’t work, what will more bombing achieve?

US sanctions Lagos-based BDC operator, firms over alleged terrorism financing

The United States government has sanctioned Mukhtar Muhammad, a Lagos-based Bureau De Change (BDC) operator, and three firms allegedly controlled by him over claims that they served as financial conduits for the West Africa franchise of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
In a statement issued on Monday, the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) accused Mr Muhammad, also known as “Mukhtar Adamu Muhammad”, of facilitating financial transactions and money transfers on behalf of ISIS-West Africa, popularly known as Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
ISWAP, a second breakaway faction of Boko Haram, has been responsible for years of deadly attacks across Nigeria’s North-east and the Lake Chad region.
Also sanctioned were Nine To Nine Exchange Bureau De Change Limited, Generation Currency Bureau De Change Limited, and Manhattan Bureau De Change Limited, which OFAC alleged are owned, controlled or directed by Mr Muhammad and were used to move funds for the terrorist organisation.
According to OFAC, Mr Muhammad operated from Lagos and played a significant role in ISWAP’s financial network by transferring money through the three BDC firms, enabling the movement of funds that supported the group’s operations.
This is the first time Mr Muhammad’s name and that of the firms linked to him would publicly appear on the list of suspected terrorism financiers. The Nigerian government has consistently updated the list, imposing sanctions such as an immediate identification and freezing of assets belonging to the designated persons among others.
Authorities have identified terrorism financing as an enabler of terror attacks. Many BDC operators and their associates have been arrested. During the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, 96 suspects and their 424 associates were arrested and detained for months without trial. In addition, over 100 companies and 33 BDC firms were linked to terrorism financing.
Besides the Nigerian designations, the US Treasury sanctioned MiloudAbderrahmane, described as a France-based ISIS financial facilitator, and AbdelhakimBoukich, described as a Syria-based extremist financial facilitator who owns and controls Bitcoin Xchange, a Syria-based money service business.
OFAC also designated Mohamad Alhmidan, who had previously been sanctioned in 2016. According to the OFAC, he owns and controls Spider GayrimenkulVeGenelTicaret Limited Sirketi, a Türkiye-based money service business.
In addition, OFAC sanctioned Bitcoin Xchange, Spider GayrimenkulVeGenelTicaret Limited Sirketi, and AlkaramDanismanlikGayrimenkulIcVe Dis GenelTicaret Limited Sirketi, alleging that the entities had materially assisted, sponsored or provided financial, material or technological support for ISIS or acted on behalf of designated ISIS financial facilitators.
OFAC alleged that Boukich and Bitcoin Xchange facilitated money transfers on behalf of ISIS associates from several countries, including Norway, Belgium, the Netherlands, South Africa and the United States. It also said Spider originated as a hawala operating in Syria and was used to move funds from areas once controlled by ISIS to other locations.
The sanctions mean that all property and interests in property belonging to the designated individuals and entities that are within the United States or under the control of US persons are blocked. Also, US citizens and businesses are also generally prohibited from conducting transactions with them unless authorised by OFAC.
OFAC further warned that foreign financial institutions and other persons that knowingly facilitate significant transactions or provide material support to the sanctioned individuals or entities could themselves face US sanctions.

CM claims 10,000 infiltrators expelled, accuses former govt of misleading Muslims

Kolkata: CM SuvenduAdhikari on Tuesday claimed that his govt had expelled 10,000 illegal infiltrators from the state and was holding another 1,800 at 12 centres awaiting deportation, while accusing the previous Mamata Banerjee-led govt of misleading Muslims for political gains and failing to secure Bengal’s international border.
Responding to criticism over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the govt’s approach towards infiltration, CM said, “If you are Indian in your heart and soul, whatever religion you follow and whichever party you belong to, nothing will happen to you.”
He said identifying infiltrators had become easier after implementing laws enacted by the Centre. “Earlier, you could not identify who the infiltrators were. We have implemented the law of the Govt of India. Catch them and hand them over to the BSF. No jail,” he said.
Claiming that action against illegal entrants had been intensified action, Adhikari said those covered under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) or those who entered legally would not be affected.
The CM alleged that the previous govt pursued vote-bank politics and failed to strengthen border security. Questioning TMC’s stand on the Border Security Force (BSF), he asked why land required for fencing projects had not been handed over earlier.

Freedom of speech under fire? Rajasthan Instagram influencer detained over anti-RSS post

A major political controversy has erupted in Rajasthan after police detained a 25-year-old Instagram content creator for posting a video critical of the RashtriyaSwayamsevakSangh (RSS). Naveen Choudhary, who runs the “Jhunjhunu Express” page with over 11,000 followers, was taken into custody on Sunday from Jhunjhunu district.
In the video posted on Saturday evening, Choudhary showed two groups of children in a playground. One group was skating on a basketball court, while the other was accompanied by elders dressed in the typical style of RSS workers.
In the voice-over, he praised the first group for being trained to “sweat in the field, win medals and make the country proud,” while accusing the second group of having “seeds of hatred” sown among them.
Choudhary alleged that cyber police began pressuring him to delete the video on Sunday morning. He claimed he received threatening messages and that five to ten police vehicles arrived at his home.

Karnataka: UP man with suspected Pak link arrested

Karnataka Police have arrested a 20-year-old migrant worker, Suhail, from Uttar Pradesh in connection with alleged terror-related activities and links to a Pakistan-based group.
According to Davanagere Superintendent of Police (SP) Shekhar HT, the arrested person had arrived in the region approximately 15 days ago and had been living in a rented house while employed as a painter at a private factory. Police were alerted to his activities through credible intelligence and are going to take help from central agencies in the investigation, he stated.
The arrest, carried out by the Harihara Rural Police in the Davanagere district, follows a series of recent security operations in the state. Recently, two suspects, Allahbhakash in Tumkur and Zamir Khan in Davangere city, were also arrested. Based on the information about the detainees, the suspects from Uttar Pradesh have been arrested.

Mumbai: Chief minister DevendraFadnavis has directed the formation of a committee headed by a retired high court judge to formulate a draft for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in the state, minister of state for home YogeshKadam informed the state assembly on Tuesday.He said that once the draft was approved, “the govt is 100% favourably inclined for implementation of the Uniform Civil Code.”
He was responding to a discussion on instances of triple talaq in Nashik district raised by BJP MLA DevayaniFarande. “Women with small children have been threatened with violence when they resist demands for triple talaq from their husbands,” Farande said. She demanded to know when the UCC would be implemented and when a ban on polygamy would be enacted.

Mangalur: Health minister UT Khader said that those who have neither worked for the Congress nor supported it should refrain from commenting on its affairs. “Only those who voted for the party and worked for it have the right to speak about it,” he said.
Responding to Muslim leaders and like-minded organisations demanding ministerial representation for Muslims, Khader expressed displeasure and said, “There is no need for people operating under different banners and calling themselves “like-minded groups” to advise the Congress. The party will not take the opinions of those who did not vote for Congress seriously. They are attempting to create political controversy.”

The meeting also opposed efforts to make VandeMataram compulsory. The Board stated that if any law is enacted requiring citizens or students to sing or recite the song, it would challenge such legislation through legal means.

'New rules': life in world epicentre of jihadist terror

The epicentre of global jihadism is today firmly planted in Africa's Sahel, where extremists are steadily expanding beyond the rural areas where they first sprang roots, killing thousands, roiling governments and sowing terror.
A semi-arid belt of land that stretches from the Atlantic Ocean along the southern rim of the Sahara desert to the Red Sea ("sahel" means "coast" in Arabic), the Sahel region has become ground zero for the same unyielding ideology that convulsed Afghanistan and Syria.
"We live every day with the fear of another attack," said Mathias in Burkina Faso who, like others interviewed for this story, spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons.
From western Mali to the shores of Lake Chad, AFP spoke to some dozen people living under the thumb or threat of jihadist groups, who dictate how locals live, move around and work.
Over the last decade three groups have extended their influence in the strip of land that separates Africa's dry, harsh Sahara desert-dominated north from the humid savannahs of the south: Islamic State (IS) group, Boko Haram and the Al-Qaeda-linked Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM).
Their methods vary. Boko Haram is notorious for mass kidnappings, IS factions rely on blind terror and the JNIM embeds itself locally through violence and politics.
"What was once concentrated primarily in northern Mali has spread across much of the central Sahel... and increasingly into the borderlands of coastal west Africa," HeniNsaibia, a senior ACLED analyst, said.
The groups can now work "across vast territories, conduct large-scale attacks and increasingly challenge state control in rural areas", Nsaibia added.

India's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, made the remarks on Tuesday at an Arria-formula meeting of the Security Council on 'Bridging the Implementation Gap: Security Council Resolutions and the Maintenance of International Peace and Security'.
"I also refer to the unwarranted remarks made by the representative of Pakistan. It is incredible that a co-chair expected to be balanced and unbiased in conduct has chosen to politicise this forum,” Harish said.
“I would only like to stress, for brevity of time, that the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is a matter strictly internal to India. It has always been, is, and will remain so,” he said.

US Vice President J.D. Vance’s remarks during the Iran peace talks in Switzerland deserve far greater attention in New Delhi than they have received so far. Reflecting on the diplomacy of the past three months, Vance said that he had “probably talked to [Pakistani] Field Marshal [Asim] Munir more than I’ve talked to anybody else”. He went further, declaring, “We would not be here without his statesmanship,” describing Munir as “a great diplomat” and “an amazing friend of the United States”.
These were extraordinary words for the Vice President of the US to pronounce in public. Moving beyond diplomatic pleasantries, they were a public acknowledgement that Pakistan’s army chief has been one of the US’ closest foreign interlocutors during the most dangerous crisis of Donald Trump’s second presidency.
That question may prove far more important than any joint statement or official communiqué issued over the past year. Trump entered the Iran crisis with the strong belief that it would help him show off his strength and decisive leadership to an admiring world. Instead, Iran’s refusal to buckle under US pressure prolonged the conflict and produced a crisis that threatened to become the defining foreign policy crisis of Trump’s presidency. The prospect of one more war, one more open-ended US military commitment on foreign shores, rising energy prices and a fragile global economy, and domestic political criticism rapidly eroded whatever political dividends he had hoped to gain.
It was at this moment that Pakistan quietly entered the picture and made itself so useful that the US turned to it gratefully. Islamabad positioned itself as a credible intermediary, with Munir emerging as the principal channel through which sensitive political messages could move. The diplomatic process that eventually led to negotiations in Switzerland gave the Trump administration something it desperately needed: a pathway out of an increasingly dangerous confrontation, while allowing the President to claim that his strategy had produced a diplomatic victory rather than another endless war.
Whether every detail of those negotiations will eventually become public is almost irrelevant at this point. What matters is how Trump and Vance themselves see the episode, and here Vance’s remarks leave little room for doubt. He clearly believes that Munir’s leadership and diplomacy have been instrumental in bringing the process to its present stage. In Trump’s quid pro quo universe, that creates something far more valuable than mere goodwill. It creates obligation.

Tasu’a; Day of loyalty, resistance in Shia history

Tasu’a is the ninth day of Muharram, one of the important days for Shia Muslims which is related to the event of Karbala, dating back to the year 61 Hijra.
The Day of Tasu'a is the last day Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions spent the night on and that day is remembered with the “Eve of Ashura”.
Tasu’a is associated with Imam Hussein’s half-brother, Abolfazl al-Abbas, who fought alongside the Imam against the army of Yazid. Abolfazl is highly revered among Muslims as a symbol of loyalty.
On the ninth day of Muharram, Shemr entered Karbala with a letter written by Ubayd Allah ibn Ziyad, in which, Umar ibn Sa’ad was requested either to show seriousness in contact with Imam Hussein (PBUH) or delegate the commandership of the army to Shemr.
With the rush of armies on the day of Tasu’a, Imam Hussein (PBUH) sent Abolfazl al-Abbas (PBUH) and urged them to give a moratorium to pray and recite the Holy Quran.

New York, June 24, 2026—Taliban authorities must allow broadcaster Tamadon TV to resume operations without interference and stop their escalating crackdown on Afghanistan’s independent media, the Committee to Protect Journalists said Wednesday.
On June 23, several armed members of the Taliban’s Ministry of Justice raided Tamadon TV’s headquarters in the capital city of Kabul, insulted its employees, forced the station off the air, and sealed its offices, according to news reports.
Tamadon TV broadcasts news and political analysis and is one of the few independent stations left in Afghanistan that airs Shia religious programming under the Taliban’s ultra-conservative Sunni Islamist rule. The raid occurred during Muharram — one of the most sacred months in the Shia Muslim calendar — and comes amid Taliban restrictions on Shia religious activities.
“The closure of Tamadon TV and the degrading treatment of its staff mark an alarming escalation in the Taliban’s assault on Afghanistan’s independent media,” said CPJ’s Afghanistan-Pakistan Representative WaliullahRahmani. “Taliban authorities must immediately allow Tamadon TV to resume broadcasting without interference and stop silencing news outlets with force on the pretext of unproven allegations.”

Top Army general who was last US soldier to leave Afghanistan is suddenly leaving his post

WASHINGTON: The Army’s commander of its forces in Europe and Africa — who was famously the last American soldier to leave Afghanistan in 2021 — is unexpectedly stepping down from his post after just 18 months in the job, the Army confirmed late Tuesday.
Gen. Christopher Donahue, commanding general of US Army Europe and Africa and commander of NATO’s Allied Land Command, will relinquish his command on July 2, according to an Army statement provided to The Associated Press. He is the latest in a line of nearly two dozen top military leaders to either retire or depart their jobs early under the leadership of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who has undertaken an effort to thin the ranks of the military’s top brass with the mantra “less generals, more GIs.”
A West Point graduate and a career special operations commander, Donahue commanded Delta Force units in Iraq and Afghanistan before leading the 82nd Airborne division from July 2020 to March 2022.
It was during that period that he oversaw the security at Hamid Karzai International Airport during the chaotic US withdrawal from the country in 2021. On Aug. 30, 2021, Donahue became the last US soldier to depart the country after nearly 20 years of war sparked by the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The moment was documented in an iconic photo taken through night vision goggles that showed the general boarding the last C-17 cargo plane to depart the country.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 — Putrajaya has not received any formal request to extradite BestinetSdnBhd founder Datuk Seri Mohamed Aminul Islam, Home Minister Datuk Seri SaifuddinNasution Ismail told Parliament through a written reply published last night.
Aminul Islam, who founded the company running the controversial Foreign Workers Centralised Management System (FWCMS), is wanted by the Bangladeshi authorities as part of its investigation in money laundering and extortion charges.
Malaysia and Bangladesh do not have an extradition treaty but has a legal provision to do so under the Extradition Act 1992, Saifuddin said in the reply.

Govt to assess Budi Diesel quota requests using actual consumption data, says minister

KUCHING, June 24 — The Ministry of Finance (MOF) is taking an open approach to considering any proposals to ensure that the Budi Madani Diesel (Budi Diesel) programme runs smoothly.
Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir HamzahAzizan said any decision regarding the programme, including the issue of increasing quotas, would be made based on actual usage data.
“When we first started implementing the RON95 subsidy, some said the quota was insufficient. But now, after several months of implementation, we can see data from January to May this year shows that only 0.76 per cent used more than 200 litres.
“So, let the system run first and see whether it is effective or not. If there are gaps in the system, the government has no problem reviewing it (decision),” he told a media conference after attending the media briefing on the Implementation of Targeted Diesel Subsidy Reforms here today.

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud approved on Tuesday the hosting of 1,000 male and female Umrah performers from around the world at his personal expense under the Guests of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Program for Hajj, Umrah, and Visit.
The first group under the program, which will be carried out in four phases, includes 250 Umrah performers hailing from 16 Asian countries: Indonesia, East Timor, the Philippines, Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, Singapore, China, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Mongolia.

Saudi leaders offer condolences to Qatar after deadly RasLaffan factory explosion

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s leaders on Tuesday sent their condolences to Qatar following a factory explosion in RasLaffan Industrial City on Sunday night that left 13 people dead and several injured.
King Salman sent a cable to Qatar’s emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, offering his sympathies to the families of the victims and the Qatari people.
“We extend to Your Highness, the families of the deceased, and the brotherly people of the State of Qatar our deepest condolences and sincere sympathy,” the king wrote.
He also prayed for mercy for those who died, a speedy recovery for the injured, and continued safety and security for Qatar, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

King Salman, crown prince receive messages from UK’s King Charles and Prince William

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s leadership received letters from Britain’s King Charles III and Prince William concerning relations between the two countries, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday.
The letters were addressed to King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and were received by Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Al-Khuraiji during a meeting with UK Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Stephen Hitchen at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Riyadh.
During the meeting, the two officials reviewed relations between Saudi Arabia and the UK, and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation across various sectors, the SPA said.

Japan–Saudi dialogue underscores emerging avenues for collaboration

TOKYO: Approximately 50 government officials, corporate representatives, and academic researchers convened in Tokyo on Tuesday to participate in a dialogue concerning the expansion of bilateral cooperation between Japan and Saudi Arabia, with proceedings centered on Saudi Vision 2030 and the Riyadh Expo 2030.
The event was co-organized by Uhuru Inc., a Japanese technology firm currently broadening its engagement with Saudi Arabia, and the Professional University of Information and Management for Innovation.
Attendees from the public, private, and academic sectors exchanged perspectives on strengthening Japan–Saudi relations as the Kingdom progresses with its economic transformation.
Goto Sato, an official from the Middle East and Africa Division at Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), provided an overview of the current state of Japan–Saudi relations. He elaborated on how cooperation under the framework of Saudi Vision 2030 is diversifying beyond the energy sector to encompass artificial intelligence, digital technology, healthcare, tourism, entertainment, and infrastructure.
Mr. Sato stated that the Riyadh Expo 2030 offers a significant opportunity for Japan to contribute its technological capabilities, innovation, and operational expertise while supporting the economic diversification of Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, he observed that world expositions have transitioned from mere exhibitions into platforms for business matching, investment, and international partnerships, thereby generating new prospects for both governmental and private entities.

Victoria police say man charged in attack on imam also assaulted, robbed 2nd victim

Victoria police say a man who allegedly attacked a local imam last Thursday also robbed and assaulted another man earlier the same night.
Vincent Edward Abraham is charged with robbery and assault causing bodily harm for his attack on Imam Ebrahim Ali, the head of the Masjid Al-Iman mosque, and robbery and assault with a weapon for the second attack.
"Random attacks like these are deeply unsettling, and they can erode the sense of safety that people should feel in their own city," said Victoria police Chief Fiona Wilson in a statement.

Jury Finds Home Financing Scheme That Targeted Muslims in Minnesota Violated State Law

A Minnesota home seller and financier has been found liable for violating state laws in a scheme that targeted East African Muslims with deceptive real estate deals marketed as “sharia compliant.”
After a two-week trial in downtown Minneapolis, a jury sided with Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison’s office Monday afternoon in a civil case alleging that Chadwick Banken knowingly deceived home buyers through a complicated process known as “contract for deed.” The unusual real estate contracts, according to Ellison’s office, reaped massive sums of money for Banken and his companies while leaving his customers financially ruined.
Through those predatory deals, Banken sold homes to Muslim buyers at high markups and on worse terms than offered on traditional home sales, the state’s lawyers argued, luring customers into risky transactions through the promise of the American dream of owning a home.
“Chad Banken exploited people’s willingness to sacrifice for this dream,” Assistant Attorney General Karthik Raman said during his opening argument.
The seven-person jury deliberated for about eight hours over two days before finding Banken and several of his companies civilly liable for violating the Minnesota Human Rights Act. The jury also determined that Banken violated the state Consumer Financial Protection Act on two counts, along with the Prevention of Consumer Fraud Act and the Uniform Deceptive Trade Practices Act. The latter four verdicts are considered advisory, meaning a judge will make the final determination on those counts.
The court will also determine whether to order restitution be paid to victims or assess other penalties, which could include up to $25,000 in fines per violation, along with surrendering profits.
The lawsuit, filed in Hennepin County District Court, followed a 2022 investigation by ProPublica and the Sahan Journal that found a rising market in Minnesota for contract-for-deed home sales, in which homebuyers pay the sellers directly in installments. Many buyers in Minnesota’s expansive Somali community say that paying interest violates their Islamic religious beliefs. They often turned to investors like Banken, who buy the houses and then resell them to people purchasing through a contract-for-deed program, as a way to purchase “interest-free” homes.
In some cases, however, Banken hid the amount of interest, or he front-loaded it into abnormally high down payments, according to lawyers in Ellison’s office. Banken used inflated home prices, confusing paperwork and six-figure balloon payments due at the end of short contracts to push buyers into default and to ultimately retain ownership of the property, the attorney general’s lawsuit said.
Some customers sacrificed far more than they understood when they signed the paperwork. They lost their life’s savings and their homes, unknowingly violating their religious principles in the process. One testified that he ended up homeless and living in his truck.

Regina mosque faces threats after launching weekly amplified call to prayer

A downtown Regina mosque says it has received threats after beginning a weekly amplified Muslim call to prayer from its rooftop speaker.
Regina City Jamia Masjid began testing the broadcast of the adhan, or the Muslim call to prayer, over the noon hour on Friday. The call lasts about three minutes.
Police say they issue more than 100 amplification permits each year to various community groups. Applications are assessed based on the length of the sound, area, time of day and sound pressure.
Rahaman said the call to prayer is not happening five times a day, nor in the early morning or at night. He said it is planned for Fridays only, before the noon prayer, also known as Jummah prayer.

Vernon police investigate anti-Muslim voicemail targeting Islamic center

VERNON, Conn. (WFSB) - Vernon police are investigating an anti-Muslim voicemail targeting the Islamic Center of Vernon, according to the Connecticut chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
CAIR-CT said mosque leaders reported that the voicemail included anti-Islam and ethnic slurs. The organization said it advised mosque leaders to file a hate crime complaint with Vernon police.
Vernon Police Chief Marc Petruzzi said in an email to CAIR-CT that investigators have identified a potential suspect and are trying to contact that person. He said police will review the evidence to determine what charges may apply, including possible hate crime charges.

A Twin Cities housing scheme took advantage of people's religious beliefs and a jury said that the man behind it violated homebuyers' human rights.
Attorney General Keith Ellison's office started investigating in 2024, and says Banken told more than 150 families they could pay him directly for the deed to the house, avoiding a bank and interest payments that don't align with the Muslim faith.
"It's frustrating to see some of the facts that we see in our cases and in the attorney general's case," she said. "Just the stakes are so high. You're not just looking at someone's home where they live, you're also looking at the money they've poured into it."

Responding, CP Sanusi assured the association that issues within the jurisdiction of the FCT Police Command would be addressed promptly and in accordance with the law.

Sudan’s Muslim Brotherhood at a Crossroads

Sudan is passing through an exceptionally complex phase as the war enters its fourth year and military and political alliances continue to shift at a rapid pace. With factions that have defected from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) joining the Sudanese Armed Forces, alongside the Joint Forces of Darfur’s armed movements, the Sudan Shield Forces, and formations linked to the Islamist movement, a new balance of power is gradually emerging within the anti-RSF camp.
This evolving landscape reflects a temporary convergence of interests among actors that differ sharply in their backgrounds, objectives, and visions for Sudan’s future. While confronting the RSF remains the primary factor uniting these forces, underlying political and military differences raise serious questions about the durability of their alliance.
Sudan’s history suggests that wartime coalitions do not necessarily evolve into stable partnerships in peacetime. Instead, they often become arenas for new struggles over influence, power, and postwar arrangements. Understanding the emerging balance of forces is therefore crucial to assessing whether cooperation or confrontation will define the next phase.
The Joint Forces drawn from Darfur’s armed movements bring battlefield experience and significant combat capability. The Sudan Shield Forces have emerged as a growing tribal and military force, while former RSF members are seeking to secure a place within the new order.
This configuration has created what amounts to an “alliance of necessity.” Its members are united by a common objective — defeating the RSF — but not by a shared political project. Each faction has its own calculations regarding future power-sharing arrangements and influence.
For decades, Islamists constituted one of the most influential forces within the Sudanese state through their political, organizational, and security networks. Today, however, they no longer monopolize the instruments of power.
Many of the groups that have risen during the conflict do not subscribe to the Islamist project. Some also carry a long history of political rivalry with Islamists dating back to the era of the National Salvation regime led by ousted former President Omar al-Bashir.
This has produced a striking paradox: the broader the coalition supporting the army becomes, the smaller the Islamists’ relative weight within it. They are no longer the sole source of political backing, military support, or social mobilization. Instead, they have become one actor among several competing centers of influence, each pursuing its own interests.

PRP Denies Selling 69 Nomination Forms ToKwankwaso

The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has dismissed allegations that the party sold 69 nomination forms in Kano State to the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 elections, RabiuKwankwaso.
Baba-Ahmed described the claim as baseless and fabricated during an interview on ARISE Television on Tuesday, insisting that the report had no connection to the party’s activities.
“This is complete fiction. The real state chairman of the PRP in Kano had already released a statement saying this is just complete bunkum,” he said.
The controversy followed claims by a self-styled PRP chairman in Kano, Abdulkadir Musa-Guza, who alleged that Kwankwaso or his associates purchased nomination forms for all 69 elective positions in the state as part of an attempt to take control of the party’s structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kebbi Senator Rejects State Police Bill, Says Timing Suspicious

The senator representing Kebbi South Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly, Garba Musa Maidoki, has rejected the proposed State Police Bill currently before the National Assembly.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday night, Senator Maidoki expressed doubts about its ability to address Nigeria’s worsening security challenges, saying that its timing is suspicious.
The lawmaker said his opposition was not necessarily to the principle of state policing, but to the manner in which the proposal was being handled and the lack of confidence in the country’s ability to implement existing laws.
He said, “When we did the Electoral Act, we thought we had nailed the point that would make Nigeria a follower of the law. But unfortunately, everybody knows what happened at the primaries.
