Islamic And Right-Wing Extremism Remain UK’s ‘Biggest Threats’, Says UK Home Secretary

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper says Islamic and right-wing extremism remain Britain’s “biggest threats” ahead of the 20th anniversary of the July 7 bombings.

On July 7 2005, four suicide bombers targeted the capital’s transport network, killing 52 people and injuring more than 770 on three London Underground trains and a bus.

A series of attempted bombings followed the attacks, and in the subsequent manhunt for suspects, police shot dead innocent man Jean Charles de Menezes, at a tube station.

Writing in the Sunday Mirror, Ms Cooper recalled how news of the attacks had emerged as she headed to a local government conference in her then-role as a junior minister.

“The work done at that time has endured and evolved. Islamist extremist terrorism remains the greatest threat, followed by extreme right-wing terrorism.

“But we also face threats from hostile states, serious organised crime, cyber criminals, and a rise in individuals radicalised online.”

In April, legislation providing greater protection to help prevent and reduce the harm of terror attacks at event venues officially became law.

Figen Murray, centre, campaigned for a change in the law in memory of her 29-year-old son Martyn Hett, who was killed in the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017 (Carl Court/PA)

The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, known as Martyn’s Law, compels all UK venues expecting 200 or more people to be on site to prepare for the event of a terror attack.

Larger premises expected to host 800 people or more also have to take steps to reduce their vulnerability to an assault, such as CCTV, bag searches or vehicle checks.

Figen Murray campaigned for the law change in memory of her 29-year-old son Martyn Hett, who was killed in the Manchester Arena bombing at the end of an Ariana Grande concert in May 2017.

Speaking when the Bill was signed into law, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said: “Today is a landmark moment for our security as my Government delivers on its promise to introduce Martyn’s Law and better protect the public from terrorism.

“Figen’s courage and determination in the face of such unimaginable loss is truly humbling, and it is thanks to her campaigning that Martyn’s Law means her son’s legacy will live on forever.”

‘We are in a dangerous place’: British Muslims on the fallout from 7/7 attack 20 years on

Geneva Abdul

-----------

For many in the British Muslim community, the tragedy of 7 July 2005 lives long in the memory. The bombings sent shockwaves through the nation but also marked a turning point that left many grappling with grief, fear and a new scrutiny of their identity.

Twenty years on, feelings of suspicion, isolation and hostility experienced in the aftermath of the attacks have, for some, only worsened after decades of UK counter-terrorism policies, and a political landscape they say has allowed Islamophobia to flourish.

“The emotional and social toll of 7/7 on Muslim communities was profound and is felt by many to this day,” said the imam Qari Asim.

After the four London bombings, which killed 52 people and injured more than 700, police recorded 180 racist incidents in three days, of which 58 were faith-related, and mosques were targeted with arson. A Guardian poll at the time found two-thirds of Muslims considered leaving the UK afterwards.

Asim, who was living in Leeds, where three of the four bombers were from, recalled the community feeling a collective sense of grief as the country mourned. But there was also an additional, silent layer of suffering for the Muslim community, he said: guilt and the need to justify their sense of belonging.

As international media descended on Leeds, Asim organised a peace walk with other local places of worship, and joined mosques across the country in focusing their Friday sermons on solidarity and rejecting extremist ideologies. But he also recalled the psychological impact in the aftermath, such as the fear on people’s faces when he entered lifts. He had to stop carrying a rucksack when he travelled.

“Islamophobia has consistently increased in the last 20 years, and that’s not just due to extremism and terrorism but also a multitude of factors,” Asim said.

Among them, he said, were the counter-terrorism rules brought in after the bombings. The then prime minister, Tony Blair, introduced 12 measures intended to offer a greater degree of collective security, but many said they left the Muslim community feeling alienated, over-policed and that their faith had been weaponised against them.

There was a dramatic increase in faith-related hate crimes and police stop-and-searches. Dozens of terrorism charges were brought every year, and conviction rates on those charges soared.

Jean Charles de Menezes, a Brazilian man living in London, was shot dead by officers the day after the failed attacks of 21 July 2005, when they mistook him for one of the suspects. Another man was shot and injured during a counter-terrorism home raid in east London.

Government engagement with communities at the time became fixed through a counter-terrorism lens, at the expense of other kinds of social engagement, said Milo Comerford, the counter-extremism policy director at the Institute for Strategic Dialogue.

“It obviously did lead to a lot of distrust and sort of perceptions of securitisation, particularly among younger Muslim men,” said Comerford.

While the government fund to tackle hatred against Muslims announced in April was a move in the right direction, Comerford said, there had been little government focus for decades, and the Islamist lens had been “part of the challenge”.

The extension of terrorism powers and increased powers given to police and intelligence agencies has been of concern to Shabna Begum, the chief executive of the Runnymede Trust, a leading race equality thinktank, because of their racialised and disproportionate impact on people of colour – particularly South Asian and Muslim communities.

“Muslim communities have generally faced this kind of real culture of both being perceived as a threat and being perceived as outside the main body of who is to be British,” said Begum.

Britain is home to a diverse Muslim community, the majority of whom are under the age of 19, according to the Muslim Council of Britain. In England and Wales, 3.9 million people identify as Muslim, according to 2021 census data, or 6.5% of the population.

Begum said she was conscious of her two children being targeted because of their Muslim identity. When she hears the customary “See it, say it, sorted” announcement on the tube, she believes she hears it differently to how a white passenger might.

Twenty years after 7/7, Begum said the extension of counter-terrorism powers into the current conversation on migration “feels regressive”.

“We’re in a really dangerous place,” she said, but added there was room for change. “There is room for a different narrative, there is room for solidarity. These counter-terrorism surveillance powers, the logic of all of what we’ve seen happen since the ‘war on terror’, those things apply and damage everyone.”

Those concerns were underscored this year when figures revealed Islamophobic assaults rose by 73% in 2024 as a result of the normalisation of Islamophobic rhetoric and the far-right “great replacement” conspiracy theory that spread on social media, according to Tell Mama, a national project that records and measures anti-Muslim incidents in the UK.

While some noted some positive changes in the aftermath of 2005 – including increased Muslim participation in public life, the creation of Muslim organisations and charities, and interfaith solidarity – another turning point was the 2005 strategy known as Contest. Its key element, Prevent, was intended to address the “root causes of terrorism”.

However, critics said Prevent was set up without meaningful engagement with communities, and the increase in surveillance culture caused a breakdown in trust between the Muslim community and the authorities. One person recalled a five-year-old child being referred to the programme. Another spoke of university students being pulled up over their research.

In the years after 7/7 and 9/11, there was a cultural shift that led to politicians and political commentators feeling able to speak about Muslims and the Muslim community in ways that were not previously acceptable. In 2024, analysis found that GB News accounted for half of all news broadcast coverage of Muslims over a two-year period, much of it negative.

“It’s become commonplace for people to say some really objectionable things and still be given platforms on mainstream media,” said Jabeer Butt, the chief executive of the Race Equality Foundation.

“We’ve given permission for people to say some terrible things in public and for them not to be challenged under the guise that we’re protecting free speech, when what we’re actually doing is demonising whole swathes of our society.”

Shaista Gohir said that as a Muslim woman born and raised in the UK, racism was always present. But the chief executive of Muslim Women’s Network UK and crossbench peer said she has never been as worried as she was now for the Muslim community.

“Twenty years on I thought we would be in a better place in terms of building the relationships and trust back, but I would say things have worsened.”

Pakistan Open To Extradite 26/11 Mastermind Hafiz Saeed To IndiaAs A "Goodwill Gesture": Bilawal Bhutto

by: Arun Nair

Jul 6, 2025

Former Pakistan Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto (File Image)

-----------

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the former foreign minister of Pakistan, has claimed that Islamabad would be open to extraditing individuals of concern, including 26/11 Mumbai terror attack mastermind and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Hafiz Saeed, as a "goodwill gesture" to India, provided New Delhi is willing to cooperate in the process. The remark from Bilawal, who also heads the Pakistan People’s Party, came months after his sharp "blood would flow in rivers if water is stopped" response to India's decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) after the Pahalgam terror attack.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, Bilawal, who has also served as Pakistan's youngest foreign minister, said that such a move could be part of a "comprehensive dialogue" between the two nuclear-armed countries, where terrorism is discussed as a key issue.

Asked whether Hafiz Saeed and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) founder Masood Azhar could be handed over as a sign of good faith, Bilawal replied that he was sure "Pakistan would not be opposed to any of these things".

"India is refusing to comply with certain basic elements that require that conviction to take place," Bilawal alleged, pointing to the need for Indian witnesses to testify in Pakistani courts. "If India is willing to be cooperative in that process, I am sure there will be no hurdle in extraditing any individual of concern", he added, according to Al Jazeera.

However, India has rejected Bilawal's claim, asserting that it made multiple efforts to cooperate with Islamabad after the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. New Delhi has submitted over 1,000 dossiers containing credible evidence of Pakistan-based terrorists’ involvement in the massacre, but Pakistan dragged the matter under the pretext of paperworks without any concrete action.

Despite Pakistan's claim of Hafiz Saeed serving a 33-year sentence in a terror financing case, several videos of the Lashkar terrorist roaming freely with his security guards and making incendiary speeches have often emerged on social media.

77-year-old Hafiz Saeed is wanted by the US and India for the deadly 2008 Mumbai attacks besides the Pahalgam killings77-year-old Hafiz Saeed is wanted by the US and India for the deadly 2008 Mumbai attacks, besides the Pahalgam killings.

Dismissing allegations that Saeed was free, he said, "It is factually not correct that Hafiz Saeed is a free man; he is in the custody of the Pakistani state."

"It is our belief that he is in Afghanistan," he said, adding that Pakistan had so far failed to locate or arrest him. “If and when the Indian government shares information that he is on Pakistani soil, we will be more than happy to arrest him,” he further said.

The strained relations between India and Pakistan have hit a new low following the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. India retaliated by targeting terrorist launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir under Operation Sindoor on May 7. This resulted in four days of military clashes, which subsided following a peaceful agreement that was first proposed by Islamabad, to cease hostilities on May 10.

J&K Hardline Against Iran Sympathisers: Anti-Israel Shia Mourners Participating In A Major Muharram Procession, Booked

Muzaffar Raina

------------

Jammu and Kashmir police have booked Shia mourners participating in a major Muharram procession on Friday for purported deliberate and unlawful acts, an apparent reference to waving Hezbollah and Iranian flags.

The action is seen as part of a new hardline against protesters involved in anti-Israel activities, aligning with the BJP-led central government's pro-Israel leanings.

The successive central governments have traditionally been soft with the Shia mourners as they saw the majority of Sunnis leading the anti-India rebellion against the state.

The police said an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Kothibagh police station against "certain individuals" for committing "deliberate and unlawful acts" during the Muharram procession on Moulana Azad Road on Friday.

"These actions were intended to provoke unrest, disturb public order, and disrupt communal harmony, posing a serious threat to the security and integrity of the nation," the police said, without elaborating how they were engaging in such activities.

"Srinagar police reiterates its commitment to maintain peace and will continue to take firm action against any attempt to destabilise public harmony through subversive or provocative activities."

The police statement has raised questions, as many have asked how the procession attempted to disrupt public order. "When no law & order issue was reported, the people deserve clarity on what exactly was violated! The FIRs only create confusion, especially ahead of Aashura!" Tahir Peerzada, a social media user, said.

Srinagar MP Aga Ruhullah Mehdi criticised the police action and asked it to clarify where it stands. "Are you serving us Kashmiris or enforcing the will of a Zionist regime? If you're serving us, then explain: Under what law are you filing FIRs against peaceful expression of support to Gaza? We await your answer," he wrote on X.

There were also chants in support of top Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, slain Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and Iranian leader Qasem Soleimani.

Shia gatherings during Muharram have traditionally been opposed by most Sunnis, but many now seem to support their activities because of Iran's anti-Israel stance and the recent 12-day war between the two countries.

Kashmir is bracing for major Muharram processions on Sunday, the Aashura or the 10th day of Muharram. Although the government is putting no restrictions on mourners, Shia groups with separatist leanings enjoy no such courtesy.

On Saturday, Baramulla district magistrate imposed a ban on the 9th Muharram procession in the area, which Ittihadul Muslimeen, a Shia separatist group, reportedly planned.

Supreme Leader of IEA highlights vital role of justice in Islamic governance

July 5, 2025

KABUL: Shaikh Mullah Hebatullah Akhundzada, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Emirate, highlighted the vital role of justice in Islamic governance, Arg said in a statement the other day.

Addressing a three-day reformative and educational seminar for judicial officials in Kandahar, Shaikh Mullah Hebatullah Akhundzada expressed appreciation for the dedicated services of all judicial personnel and emphasized the noble status and critical responsibility of judges.

Drawing from the Qur’an and Sunnah, the Supreme Leader explained the wisdom of Qazaa (judicial rulings), the honor associated with it, and its impact on both individual and societal levels.

He said that the Prophet Muohammad (peace be upon him) personally engaged in judicial duties, issuing rulings, clarifying the Shariah, enforcing decisions, and implementing the Hudood (Islamic legal punishments).

“The judiciary is a cornerstone of an Islamic system. Through the courts, the lives, wealth, and honor of the people are protected. Sitting for one hour with the intention of upholding justice can bring the reward of 60 to 70 years of worship, as mentioned in different narrations,” the IEA Supreme Leader said as quoted by the statement.

He further noted that justice eradicates corruption, eliminates chaos, and upholds peace, stressing that the strength of Islamic rule is deeply tied to the strength of its judiciary.

Without proper judicial systems, tyranny flourishes unchecked, the voice of the oppressed is silenced, and immorality spreads across society, he warned, instructing all officials to maintain sincerity, integrity, and commitment to Allah’s laws in discharging their responsibilities, emphasizing that justice is both an act of worship and a duty to the Ummah. The seminar concluded with renewed determination among the judiciary to implement Islamic justice in its purest form, ensuring stability, fairness, and the protection of people’s rights throughout the country. Nottingham Islamic charity warned over 'divisive' sermon delivered days after October 7 attacks

By George Palmer-Soady

6 JUL 2025

The trustee of an Islamic charity in Nottingham has been disqualified after delivering an "inflammatory and divisive" sermon, following the October 7 attacks in the Middle East.

The Charity Commission has also given a formal warning to the Islam Information Point, in Radford, after the religious speech on October 13, 2023.

The regulator said language such as "the hour will not begin until the Muslims fight the Jews and the Muslims will kill them until a Jew hides behind a rock or a tree" was included in the sermon.

One of more than 300 cases raised to the regulator after the October 7 Hamas attacks on Israel, the sermon also included statements believed to be discouraging people to vote.

Mr Holmes was later found to have lacked "the good judgement expected of a trustee" by the charity regulator, and was subsequently disqualified in July 2024. He will not be able to serve in a senior position at any charity for three years.

The October 7 attacks in 2023 saw Hamas - a Palestinian armed group on the Gaza strip - attack Israel, with more than 1,200 people killed and more than 250 hostages taken. This triggered a massive military response from Israel, whose army has since killed tens of thousands of Palestinians.

Russia’s recognition of Islamic Emirate: The reality and new political map

July 6, 2025

On July 3, 2025, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially announced that it recognizes the Islamic Emirate, currently in power in Afghanistan, as a legitimate governmental reality. Although this decision is linked to diplomatic engagements, it also reflects a profound, purposeful, and strategic approach from the perspective of global politics. Recognizing an Islamic system that came to power after a prolonged anti-occupation jihad is an unprecedented development in the history of international relations. This shift should not be seen merely as a recognition of one government by another, but rather as a powerful signal indicating a fundamental change in the global understanding of order, balance of power, and the definition of state legitimacy.

Since 2021, the Islamic Emirate has strengthened its political standing through internal stability, principled governance, and a balanced foreign policy. Eventually, it reached a point where a global power—Russia—formally acknowledged its legitimacy. This recognition is both a major outcome of the Emirate’s political strategy and a confirmation of a new reality in the calculations of international politics. It marks not only a significant moment in Afghanistan’s modern history, but also the opening of a new chapter in the political struggle of the Islamic world. The Islamic Emirate, which regained political control of the country following a prolonged resistance against occupation, was largely unrecognized by the international community after 2021. Global actors, especially Western countries, either doubted the Emirate’s legitimacy or sought to make it conditional upon meeting their demands. Nevertheless, the Emirate proved itself to be an independent, principle-driven system with internal stability, which not only restored security and order but also continued its foreign engagement with patience, dialogue, and diplomacy.

Aine Fox

Sun 6 July 2025

A British Islamic charity has received a formal warning and had one of its trustees disqualified following an "inflammatory and divisive" sermon delivered in the days after the 7 October Hamas attacks.

The Charity Commission stated the sermon included the phrase: "the hour will not begin until the Muslims fight the Jews and the Muslims will kill them until a Jew hides behind a rock or a tree."

This case is one of more than 300 involving charities related to the Middle East conflict that the regulator, operating across England and Wales, has addressed in the past 18 months.

Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif links Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir to 'regional destabilisation'

By: Sheenu Sharma

July 05, 2025

Islamabad: At the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) Summit in Azerbaijan, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif accused India of exploiting the recent Pahalgam terror attack to undermine regional peace. He described India's response as “unprovoked and reckless hostility,” aimed at destabilising the region.

Sharif referred to the April 22 (Tuesday) attack in Baisaran Valley, Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam- one of the deadliest in recent years- which claimed the lives of 25 Indian tourists and a local resident. The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the assault.

In retaliation, India launched 'Operation Sindoor', destroying nine terrorist camps across the border. The cross-border hostilities escalated, including Pakistani drone attacks and Indian counter-strikes, before ending on May 10 (Saturday) following Pakistan’s call for a ceasefire after heavy damage to its military installations.

Sharif once again raised the Kashmir issue, condemning what he called "barbaric acts" against civilians in the Union Territory. In a broader swipe, he also denounced violence in Gaza and recent Israeli strikes in Iran, where over 600 people reportedly died during 'Operation Rising Lion'- Israel’s campaign targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

'Pakistan in no hurry to recognise Taliban govt, will act in self-interest'

Jul 06 2025

Pakistan is in no hurry to recognise the Afghan Taliban government, and any decision will be made keeping the country's interest in mind, officials here have said.

The remarks came days after Russia became the first country to officially recognise the Taliban's rule. Moscow's decision, some observers feel, may be a prelude to other regional countries finally embracing the Taliban.

However, officials in Pakistan told The Express Tribune newspaper that the decision of Russia was not a surprise, as Moscow for some time had indicated they would reconcile with the fact that the Taliban were now in charge and there was no other option but to accept their rule.

Kin of Punjab farmer who crossed over to Pakistan seeks MEA’s intervention

July 6, 2025

The family of a 23-year-old Ferozepur farmer, who inadvertently crossed over to Pakistan a fortnight ago, urged the Union External Affairs ministry Saturday to ensure his safe return to India at the earliest.

Amritpal Singh, from Khaireke Uttar village in Punjab’s Ferozepur district, went missing along the India-Pakistan border on June 21. He had gone to tend his farmland located across the barbed fencing near Border Outpost (BOP) Rana under Border Security Force supervision.

The Border Security Force (BSF) personnel later found human footprints heading towards the Pakistani side, raising the possibility of an unintentional border crossing.

People's Union For Civil Liberties Sends Letter To CS On Alleged Communal Boycott Of Minority Community

Jul 6, 2025

Pune: A fact-finding committee of the People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) has written a letter to the chief secretary regarding an alleged disturbing communal tension and illegal prohibition against the minority community in Paud, Pirangut and other villages in Mulshi taluka of Pune district.

The letter talks about the problem of unemployment and migration arising out of these. The committee, comprising G D Parekh, a retired district judge, and the Association for Protection of Civil Liberties (APCR), of which former high court judge Abhay Thipsay is the state president, found that despite the situation prevailing for a long time, no due cognisance was taken by the administration or other authorities concerned.

"We sent a letter on June 30 to the chief secretary and all other officials, including the collector, divisional commissioner, MP SupriyaSule and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, but there has been no response yet," said MilindChampanerkar, general secretary, PUCL, Pune.

Signboards allegedly prohibiting Muslims from "outside" entering and praying in local mosques had come up in various villages in rural Pune after the Pahalgam attack. The authorities removed these boards in Paud and Pirangut after PUCL and APCR made their case. But many problems remained unaddressed, said Champanerkar.

DU Panel Clears Move To Drop Papers On Pakistan, China, IslamAnd Political Violence

By Aheli Das

Jul 06, 202

The Academic Council on Saturday also approved the introduction of a new paper on “Sikh martyrdom” in Indian History.

Papers with references to Pakistan, China, Islam, and political violence were dropped from Delhi University’s Political Science department’s postgraduate syllabus after its top academic body on Saturday approved the proposal.

The proposal, first floated and approved by the Standing Committee in June this yearaimed to strike down the papers ‘Pakistan and the World’, ‘China’s Role in the Contemporary World’, ‘Islam and International Relations’, ‘Pakistan: State and Society’ and ‘Religious Nationalism and Political Violence’.

The Academic Council on Saturday also approved the introduction of a new paper on “Sikh martyrdom” in Indian History. The course will be called Centre for Independence and Partition Studies (CIPS), and will be a part of the General Elective (GE) course.

“The objective of this course is to understand the historical context associated with the Sikh community and major historical examples of Sikh martyrdom, religious persecution and resistance against hegemonic state oppression,” the university said in a press release.

An official said the course will help understand the gaps existing in the emerging history and the “neglected socio-religious history of Sikh martyrdom”.

Mini Iraq in Lucknow and marks of Lucknow in Iraq

Jul 6, 2025

Naresh Dayal, district magistrate of Lucknow (1986-88), had the occasion to visit Iraq as secretary in petroleum ministry of govt of India. While in Baghdad, he expressed the desire to visit Kazman near Baghdad (shrine of 7th Shia Imam Musa Kazim). The request intrigued his hosts about the purpose of his visit to the shrine. Dayal told them that he is coming from a city which has a kazman too.

Kazman in old Lucknow is quite like the original kazman in Iraq. The Lucknow kazman was built by a Hindu minister of King Amjad Ali Shah (1842-47) of Awadh named Jagan Nath titled Sharaf-ud-daula, is different from the original shrine in Iraq only by poor upkeep. Whereas, in look, form and measurements both are alike. The original domes of the shrine in Iraq are made of pure gold and the domes of its replica in Lucknow are made of gold plated thick silver pattar (sheet).

In vicinity of kazman there is a mosque known as shabih e masjid e kufa (replica of kufa mosque). Again in design, structure and in paimaish (measurements) this mosque is the exact replica of then kufa mosque where Hazrat Ali was martyred. Like the then kufa mosque this structure is still painted in reddish brown. Over the period of time the mosque in kufa has undergone changes.

Karbala of Awadh noble Dayanat-ud-daula in old Lucknow is also the exact replica of Imam Hussain shrine in Karbala. There are couple of wooden pillars having intricate carvings in this Karbala like of which are placed at outer gate of Imam Hussain shrine in Iraq where they are displayed as pieces of antiquity. May be those pillars were placed over there as offering to the shrine by Awadh rulers as the pillars are said to be made of some wood from Ceylon (Sri Lanka).

Being devout Shias, Awadh rulers contributed generously to the enlargement, upkeep and facilities for pilgrims in Karbala and Najaf (shrine of Hazrat Ali). Awadh begums made offerings of precious jewelleries to the shrine which are displayed on makhsusi (specific significant days)

Afghans deserve dignified repatriation, humiliation contrary to neighborliness

July 6, 2025

The Islamic Republic of Iran has recently resorted to the mass deportation of the Afghan refugees, a move against all international migration standards and Islamic and neighborliness values.

The refugees are now facing intense deportation, an unprecedented move by our neighbors that has concerned the migrant families and attracted the attention of international media, humanitarian organizations, and political analysts. Pakistan, Iran, and a number of other countries have hosted Afghan refugees for years, but unfortunately, this hospitality is now being ended with pressure, humiliation, and forced deportation.

The deportation of Afghan refugees, whether from Pakistan, Iran, or other regions, is an act that clearly conflicts with human values, Islamic principles, international standards of asylum, and the spirit of good neighborliness. The trial of refugees in these countries without lawyers, imprisonment, fines, and forced deportation are all actions that the conscience of humanity cannot tolerate.

Shia Muslims in Bangladesh observe Ashura with traditional procession

06 Jul 2025

The Shia Muslim community in Bangladesh is observing Ashura with customary reverence and solemnity, commemorating the 7th-century martyrdom of Prophet Muhammad’s grandson Imam Hussein.

At 10am on Sunday, devotees marked the occasion by participating in a procession, which involves carrying a Tazia, or a replica of the mausoleum of Imam Hussein.

Barefoot and beating their chests in grief, mourners led the procession out of Old Dhaka’s Hussaini Dalan Imambara as cries of “Hai Hussein, Hai Hussein” echoed through the air.

In remembrance of Karbala, symbolic coffins of Imam Hussein are carried in the procession. Leading the way are two symbolic horses representing those belonging to Imam Hasan and his brother Imam Hussein.

Iran Warns Crushing Retaliation to Leave Israel Helpless Even with US Support

July, 05, 2025

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s top military commander warned that any renewed Israeli aggression would trigger a punishing response capable of paralyzing the Zionist regime, adding that even Washington would be powerless to shield the regime’s prime minister from the consequences.

Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi said in Tehran on Friday that the Islamic Republic had prepared a decisive retaliation in line with the directive of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.

Hundreds of ballistic missiles, including supersonic and multi-warhead variants, targeted military, nuclear, and industrial centers across occupied Palestine.

The Temple Mount in Jerusalem and the end of times: A biblical perspective

Jo Elizabeth

July 5, 2025

The 35 acre plateau on top of Mount Zion is approximately the size of 35 football fields, and the most contested piece of real estate in the world. Why? Because God has claimed it for Himself, and so God’s enemies rage against it. If Israel was chosen to be the “navel” of the world according to Ezekiel 5:5, and Jerusalem as God’s holy city, the Temple Mount is the very epicenter of spiritual significance, from a biblical point of view.

The iconic golden “Dome of the Rock” in the middle of the Temple Mount is often mistaken for a mosque, but it has a different significance. The famous Al Aqsa mosque (meaning “the Far Mosque”) is to the south of the platform, with its trademark grey domes, but the blue tiled structure with its golden dome is said to have been built to encase the “foundation stone” of the earth.

“According to Jewish tradition, this is the stone on which the world was founded, hence its name, as well as the place of the binding of Isaac,” the foundation explains, referring to the moment when God tested Abraham’s faith on that mountain in Genesis 22. They note that the foundation stone is typically thought to have been in the Holy of Holies but that today it is found underneath the Muslim edifice of the Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount.

For Muslims the site is known as Al-Haram al-Sharif (“the Noble Sanctuary”) and believed to be the place Mohammed ascended to heaven on a flying horse. However, the holiest site in Islam is in Mecca, almost a thousand miles away, which is why Al Aqsa is the “far away” mosque. Now when Muslims pray on the Temple Mount, they prostrate themselves facing away from the golden dome, and towards Mecca.

The Temple Mount has been in Muslim hands for centuries following a series of conquests, but following the unexpected Israeli victory in the 1967 Six Day War, east Jerusalem was reclaimed from Jordan who had occupied it since 1948 and the whole old city was reunited under Israeli control. As a gesture of peace, Israel handed the hotly contested Temple Mount site back over to Jordan, and it has been administered by the Jordanian Waqf ever since.

That decision has been decried by many, since the Waqf refuses to allow Christians and Jews to pray there. Bibles and prayer books are not allowed – visitors are required to leave any items of that nature behind, and also to comply with the strict modesty laws while in the Waqf controlled area. However, the hot indignation of not being able to pray up on the site where the temple once stood has been starting to bubble.

“Each year, more and more Israelis take the dangerous risk of ascending the holy mountain under the hostile guards of Jordanian officials,” wrote Rabbi Tuly Weisz in the Jerusalem Post. “Palestinian terrorists are getting scared as Jews are getting serious about restoring our holy of holies, the site we pray towards every day, and the building we beseech God for repeatedly throughout our liturgy.”

06.07.2025

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei appeared publicly for the first time Saturday since the end of a war with Israel to participate in Ashura ceremonies in Tehran.

Khamenei was absent from ceremonies during the start of the Muslim New Year, Muharram, held at his residence on Palestine Street for the last three nights, but he appeared Saturday for the solemn ceremonies to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain.

Footage on X by the official account of the supreme leader showed attendees at Imam Khomeini's Hosseinieh mansion welcoming Khamenei as he entered a hall.

Khamenei was seen delivering speeches during the assault on Iran. After a ceasefire was reached, Iran accused Washington of joining the attacks to save Tel Aviv, which Iran responded to with counterstrikes.

Muslim Rights Concern Demands Sharia Courts In South-West Nigeria, Friday Holiday For Muslims

July 6, 2025

An Islamic human rights group, the Muslim Rights Concern, has called for constitutional amendments to establish sharia courts in the South-West.

The group’s Founder and Executive Director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, presented the proposal during the South-West zonal public hearing on constitutional review.

Mr Akintola, who was represented by a group leader. Dr JamiuBusari, addressed the Senate Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution.

Trump to send tariff letters to 10-12 countries tomorrow

Jul 6, 2025

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump on Saturday said his administration is immediately sending letters to the first batch of 10 to 12 countries, sharing details of reciprocal tariff rates and the entire process could be completed by July 9.

"We are going to start sending letters out to various countries starting tomorrow," Trump told reporters at Joint Base Andrews air base in Maryland before departing to Iowa. The US President, however, did not name the countries. The President said the reciprocal tariffs would come into effect from Aug 1. "The money is going to come to the United States from Aug 1," he added.

Trump suggested that the letters would explain what the countries are going to be paying in tariff to the US. He said the lower limit in tariff could be in the range of 10-20% and the higher bracket would be in the range of 60-70%.

All eyes on India as Brics takes up US tariffs, Israel

Jul 6, 2025

NEW DELHI: While the Brics Declaration that will follow the two-day summit beginning Sunday is expected to factor in India's concerns on terrorism, it may also call upon India to take a stronger position on issues like US President Donald Trump's unilateral tariffs and Israel's actions in Gaza.

Brics countries were engaged in intense negotiations to finalise the declaration as PM Narendra Modi arrived in Rio for the summit on Sunday. A draft statement under discussion proposed condemnation of US tariffs and some of Israel's actions in Gaza, issues on which India has nuanced its position given its efforts to reach a trade deal with the US before Jan 9, Trump's deadline for suspension of tariffs, and its balancing act on relations with Israel and Palestine.

Brics - which was expanded last year to include Egypt, Ethiopia, UAE, Indonesia, Iran and Saudi Arabia as full members - has been an important platform for India to focus on issues like multilateral reforms, counterterrorism, sustainable development goals and people-to-people exchanges. Modi is expected to strongly raise the issue of cross-border terrorism in his address to further sensitise the international community about the role of Pakistan in promoting terrorism, as evident from the recent Pahalgam attack.

The Brics Declaration will be followed closely for what it has to say on tariffs and the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. According to a Bloomberg report from Rio, going by a draft statement under discussion, Brics heads of govt are likely to adopt a position at odds with the Trump administration on tariffs and aspects of the conflict in the Middle East. The statement, however, doesn't name the Trump administration or the US on the tariff issue as not all countries apparently were comfortable with it.

Brazil hosts BRICS summit, eager to avoid provoking Trump’s ire

By MAURICIO SAVARESE

July 6, 2025

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Brazil will play host to a summit of the BRICS bloc of developing economies Sunday and Monday during which pressing topics like Israel's attack on Iran, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and trade tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump are expected to be handled with caution.

Analysts and diplomats said the lack of cohesion in an enlarged BRICS, which doubled in size last year, may affect its ability to become another pole in world affairs. They also see the summit's moderate agenda as an attempt by member countries to stay off Trump’s radar.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will have some of his priorities, such as debates on artificial intelligence and climate change, front and center for the talks with key leaders not in attendance.

China's President Xi Jinping won't attend a BRICS summit for the first time since he became his country's leader in 2012. Russian President Vladimir Putin, who will make an appearance via videoconference, continues to mostly avoid traveling abroad due to an international arrest warrant issued after Russia invaded Ukraine.

The restraint expected in Rio de Janeiro marks a departure from last year’s summit hosted by Russia in Kazan, when the Kremlin sought to develop alternatives to U.S.-dominated payment systems which would allow it to dodge Western sanctions imposed after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

‘Lion King’ roars into life with Ithra live orchestra in Dhahran

Jasmine Bager

July 05, 2025

DHAHRAN: Nearly three decades after it first captivated global audiences, Disney’s “The Lion King” dazzled new and older generations at the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture, or Ithra, in Dhahran this week by offering a chance to watch the film anew with a live orchestra.

“We hope that it will bring goosebumps and tears,” conductor Erik Ochsner told the crowd before the show. “This is a live performance, and so we would beg of you to please just enjoy it live.”

As it has done in previous experiences, such as the 2019 and 2022 live orchestra showcases of several “Harry Potter” films in concert series, Ithra brought a full orchestra to perform Hans Zimmer’s Oscar-winning score while the animated film played in the background on a large screen.

For the experience, the film was stripped of the music while all the original audio, including dialogue and songs, remained untouched. The orchestra played those musical parts, breathing new life into the scenes without burying the essence of the nostalgic original.

Originally released in 1994, “The Lion King” quickly became one of Disney’s most iconic films, celebrated for its powerful storytelling, memorable characters, and stirring soundtrack.
