Iftar Buffets Un-Islamic: Ramazan Buffets Buck Islam’s
Advice For Moderation During Fasting Month, Perak Scholar Says
Muslims have their iftar

BY SYED JAYMAL ZAHIID
24 Apr 2022
KUALA LUMPUR, April 24 — Perak Islamic Religious and
Malay Customs Council president Datuk Seri Mohd Annuar Zaini considers Iftar
buffets as “very un-Islamic”.
Mohd Annuar told news portal The Vibes that buffers
tend to be extravagant and often encourage wasting, which contravenes the
spirit that the holy month of Ramazan is meant to nurture discipline and
moderation.
“You [buffet operators] drag people to stay with entertainment
and music. They will stay and eat more food when they are encouraged to inject
life to mosques.
“When they start bringing children [to buffets], they
are teaching the wrong values and culture to the young ones,” he was quoted
saying in the news report posted today.
The criticism was directed towards caterers that offer
buffets for breaking fast, usually at a fee of a few hundred ringgit. These
fees often include charges for entertainment.
Mohd Annuar called the buffet charges exorbitant and
believed that restaurant owners and hotels take advantage of the cravings that
come after a long day of fasting.
Malaysians have been known to waste food past reports
on the issue have shown, with festive seasons usually seeing a major rise in
food leftovers being dumped.
In a 2016 report published by the Solid Waste and
Public Cleansing Corporation, 200,000 tonnes of food went straight into the
rubbish bin every fasting month.
The news portal also cited a 2019 WWF-Malaysia report
that showed 16,668 tonnes of food nationwide were wasted on a daily basis the
year before, and suggesting this amount could be used to feed 12 million
people.
Islamic Development Department director-general Datuk
Hakimah Mohd Yusoff also advised Muslims to eat in moderation in order to stay
healthy.
“The existence of the Ramazan buffet has also helped
to boost the country’s economy as well as provide opportunities for the Muslim
community to break fast at locations [which serve food] that suit their taste,”
she told The Vibes.

Hindus, Muslims To Take Out Tiranga Yatra In Communal
Riot-Hit Jahangirpuri
-----
IANS
April 24, 2022
Members from both the Hindu and Muslim community will
take out a Tiranga Yatra on Sunday at the communal violence-hit Jahangirpuri
area of the national capital.
The area is still under heavy security cover, however,
the permission to take out the proposed Yatra at 6 p.m. has been granted by the
Delhi Police.
“A total of 50 people – 25 Hindus and 25 Muslims — are
allowed to take part in the Yatra,” sources said, adding that the Yatra will
begin from Kusal Chowk and then move towards Block B, BC market, mosque,
temple, G block, Kusal Chowk, Bhumi Ghat and culminate at Azad Chowk.
On Saturday evening, representatives of the local
peace committee, Aman Committee, met and hugged each other on cameras, spreading
the message of brotherhood between both the communities.
Aman Committees were set up in the 1980s so that all
religious celebrations in the national capital take place without one community
hurting another’s sentiments.
Severe communal clashes erupted at the Jahangirpuri
area on April 16 during a Hanuman Jayanti procession in which nine people,
including eight policemen, were injured.
The police has till now arrested 25 people and
apprehended two juveniles, while one of the arrested person’s relatives was
bound down for injuring a police Inspector by pelting stones at him.

Islamic Emirate
of Afghanistan Orders PUBG, TikTok Ban for Leading Youths ‘Astray’

By Arif Ahmadi
23 Apr 2022
Kabul, Afghanistan – In one of the latest cabinet
meetings Thursday, Islamic Emirate has ordered the Ministry of Communication
and Information Technology (MCIT) to ban access to online game Player Unknown’s
Battlegrounds (BUBG) and the video-sharing app TikTok, saying the younger
generation is being led astray by these platforms.
Since in power, the Taliban government has banned
playing music, broadcasting international drama series, and use of neckties –
yet PUBG and TikTok app in its latest – to prevent the so-called immoral
contents.
“The cabinet ordered the blocking of access to PUBG
and Tik Tok applications, which leads astray the younger generation, and also
to prevent the publication of a channel that publishes immoral programs,” said
Inamullah Samangani, deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate, as TOLOnew
quoted.
After taking control over the country last year, the
Taliban promised a softer approach to government; but has increasingly
curtailed freedoms especially for women as girls school remain suspended since
the beginning of new calendar in March.
The group is known for their severe version of
Islamist rule that characterized their first stint in government between 1996
and 2001, where use of borqa (locally known as chadari) among older generation
could be seem up to these days across the country.
While the current government tends to avoid
“misleading” content younger generations, blocking two of the famous online
platforms, Kabul youths have different views on online game PUBG and
video-sharing app TikTok.
“Not only TikTok, but on all social networks we can
learn life skills, we can learn languages and we can learn a lot of Islamic
subjects, so it cannot be a reasonable reason to block access to these
applications because it leads the young astray,” said Alexander Najib, as local
media quoted.
However, not all younger generation agree with such a
perspective, as another resident Tahir Ayoubi said, “young people can entertain
themselves in other ways through drawing, painting and art. My personal opinion
is that TikTok should be banned.”
PUBG, an abbreviated term for Player Unknown’s
Battlegrounds, is an online shooting game created by a South Korean developer
gain popularity among online players.
Meanwhile, TikTok, known in China as Douyin, is a video-focused
social networking service owned by Chinese company ByteDance Ltd. It hosts a
variety of short-form user videos, from genres like pranks, stunts, tricks,
jokes, dance, and entertainment with durations from 15 seconds to ten minutes.
The number of internet users in Afghanistan has grown
rapidly in recent years along with its youth population, marking about nine
million users currently.

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi sent a
greeting message to Pope Tawadros II – head of the Coptic Orthodox Church –
ahead of Easter Sunday, saying its coincidence with the holy month of Ramazan
is a call for adherence to noble religious values.
“Easter’s coincidence with the holy Ramazan month on
the land of Egypt, the cradle of monotheistic religions, is a call for
adherence to the noble religious values that call for strengthening cohesion
and enhancing the spirit of solidarity and harmony,” state news agency MENA
cited El-Sisi as saying in the message.
The president also prayed to God during these “blessed
days in which the fasts and prayers of the masses of Muslim and Christian
Egyptians converge” to bring continued goodness and development to Egypt,
protect the country and citizens, and perpetuate security and prosperity in
Egypt.
The president also sent similar messages greeting
Egyptian Copts abroad on Easter through the country’s embassies and consulates
worldwide.
Pope Tawadros II arrived Saturday night at St. Mark's
Coptic Orthodox Cathedral to lead the Orthodox Easter Sunday Mass, which falls
this year on 24 April. A large number of attendees are attending the mass amid
strict coronavirus measures.
Last week, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ahmed El-Tayyeb
congratulated Pope Tawadros II and the Christian people in Egypt in a phone
call, saying bonds between Muslim and Christian people in Egypt “stem from the
right understanding” of religion.
During the phone call, Pope Tawadros also hailed the
relations binding the leaders and people of the church with the scholars of
Al-Azhar, saying that these relations are a reflection of cooperation and ties
between the two ancient institutions in all fields.

Pakistani Speakers Stress On Continued Support For Palestine
Cause At Quds Conference

Source: IRNA
Condemning the recent crimes of the Zionist regime in
Al-Quds, a number of Pakistani politicians and thinkers said helping
Palestinian people against Zionist aggression and liberation of َAl-Quds depends only on the unity and solidarity of
Muslims.
The conference titled "Quds, Axis and Center of
Unity" organized by the Palestine Foundation of Pakistan was held in
Islamabad on Friday attended by important political, religious and social
figures.
Speakers strongly condemned the Zionist occupation
forces' attack on Al-Aqsa Mosque in recent days, and called on the
international organizations, especially the Organization of Islamic Cooperation
and the Arab League, to take practical steps beyond issuing statements and
rhetoric to stop this aggression.
"In today's world, Palestine and the Middle East
are two critical points for war," said Senator Talha Mahmood, Pakistan's
Minister for States and Frontier Regions.
Allama Raja Nasser Abbas Jafari, Secretary General of
Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen Pakistan (MWM) said the US and compromising rulers in
the region in collusion with Israel were in clear violation of international
law, including Security Council resolutions.
He stressed that the Islamic world must play a serious
role in resolving the issues facing it, especially in reducing tensions in the
Middle East, resolving the crisis in Syria, Yemen and Palestine.
The religious leader of Pakistan added that Israel is
a usurper regime and of course it has failed, so its conspiracy to cooperate
with some Arabs to weaken the axis of resistance is doomed to failure.
Nayyar Hussain Bukhari Secretary General of Pakistan
Peoples Party (PPP) and former Chairman Senate said not only words are enough
to resolve the Palestinian conflict, but we must take practical measures. The
United Nations, especially the Arab League, must fulfill its responsibilities
to Palestine and to prevent human rights abuses by Israel.
He described the Zionist regime's suppression of the
Palestinians and its invasion of Al-Quds as cruel and added it is time for us
to end "our differences and help resolve the Palestinian question".
Saber Abu Maryam, Secretary General of Palestine
Foundation of Pakistan praised Imam Khomeini's historic move to declare the
last Friday of Ramazan as International Quds Day, saying Imam gave a new spirit
to the liberation movements of the oppressed nations of the world, including
the liberation of Palestine and the struggle against the Zionist enemy were
blown.
Criticizing the actions of some countries in the
region and the Arab world to establish relations with the illegitimate Zionist
regime, he added "Conspiracies to create a Greater Israel and a Greater
Middle East have failed miserably.
At the end of the seminar, the participants passed a
resolution calling on the Pakistani government to officially observe the last
Friday of the holy month of Ramazan as International Quds Day.
