SC To Hear Gyanvapi Mosque Panel's Plea Against Allahabad
HC Order On Temple Restoration

March 1, 2024
The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear an appeal of
the Gyanvapi management committee against an Allahabad High Court order which
held that lawsuits for "restoration" of a temple where the mosque
stands in Varanasi are maintainable.
"We will tag this with the main case," a bench
comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj
Misra said.
The plea in the top court was filed by the Anjuman
Intezamia Masjid, the committee which manages the affairs of the Gyanvapi
mosque.
On December 19 last year, the Allahabad High Court had
dismissed pleas challenging the maintainability of a 1991 suit seeking the
"restoration" of a temple at the site where the Gyanvapi mosque
stands.
The HC had said that the "religious character"
of a disputed place can only be decided by the court.
It had dismissed five related petitions -- on
maintainability and also against a survey of the mosque premises -- filed over
the years by the mosque committee and the Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf
Board.
The HC had held that the suit filed before the district
court is not barred by the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991,
which forbids "conversion" of the "religious character" of
a place from what existed on August 15, 1947.
The suit was filed by petitioners seeking the right to
worship in the Gyanvapi mosque adjoining the Kashi Vishwanath temple. Muslim
litigants had challenged its maintainability, citing the Places of Worship
(Special Provisions) Act.

Malaysian Deputy PM : Don't Use Religion As Tool To

01-03- 2024
PUTRAJAYA: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid
Hamidi today reminded all quarters, especially political leaders, not to use
religion as a tool to achieve political goals.
Speaking to the media after launching the Federal
Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) Mobile Surau 2.0 here today,
Ahmad Zahid said that matters related to Islam, Islamic law and fatwa should be
off limits when expressing views and opinions on any subject.
“If the issues involved Islamic laws that can be referred
to the Quran, hadith, analogical reasoning (qiyas), and consensus of scholars
(ijtihad), I don't need to advise any party leader with a religious background
to follow that path. However, they should not use religion as a tool to achieve
political goals.”
He said this in response to Sultan of Selangor Sultan
Sharafuddin Idris Shah who expressed deep regret and described as highly
inappropriate the recent statement made by PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi
Awang.
Ahmad Zahid said he appreciated the Sultan’s decree,
which can be deemed as a warning not just to the public, but also to political
leaders including from UMNO, to not do the same.
Yesterday, Sultan in a post on the Selangor Royal Office
Facebook, expressed deep regret over Abdul Hadi’s statement titled 'Ketinggian
Islam Wajib Dipertahankan' on Feb 20, which was addressed to religious
scholars, judges, lawyers, members of Parliament and State Legislative
Assemblies, as well as the Malay Rulers.
Sultan Sharafuddin described the statement as highly
inappropriate as it lacks decorum from the perspective of Malay culture, which
always respects and upholds etiquette when expressing views and advice to the
Malay Rulers.
Meanwhile, on the JAWI Mobile Surau 2.0, Ahmad Zahid said
the government strongly encourages any company to contribute through endowments
(wakaf) for the benefit of the community.
“I hope that more private companies, not just
transportation companies, but other companies, can continue efforts to endow
buses to be used as mobile surau like this,” he said.
Meanwhile, JAWI, in a statement said that the JAWI Mobile
Surau 2.0 is the result of collaboration with the company Konsortium E-Mutiara
Bhd and CIMB Islamic Bank Bhd to modify a double-decker bus, which serves not
only as a prayer space but also functions as a mobile religious and outreach
activity centre.
The double-decker bus, valued at RM350,000, was donated
by Konsortium E-Mutiara, while the modification costs were sponsored by CIMB
Islamic Bank and individuals through zakat wakalah amounting to RM200,000.
The JAWI Mobile Surau 2.0 can accommodate up to 35
congregants at a time and features prayer amenities such as carpets, prayer
mats, prayer garments (telekung) and a public announcement system.
The passenger section of the bus has been modified into a
comfortable prayer and activity space, while the storage area has been turned
into water storage for ablution purposes.
Also present at the event were Minister in the Prime
Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, Chairman
of the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) Syed Kamarulzaman
Syed Kabeer, and JAWI director Datuk Mohd Ajib Ismail. -Bernama

UN Experts: Sudan’s Paramilitary Forces Carried Out
Ethnic Killings And Rapes That May Be War Crimes
Residents displaced
from a surge of violent attacks squat on blankets and in hastily made tents in
the village of Masteri in west Darfur, Sudan, on July 30, 2020. Paramilitary
forces and their allied militias fighting to take power in Sudan carried out
widespread ethnic killings and rapes while taking control of much of western
Darfur that may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity, according to
a new report to the U.N. Security Council, obtained Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024, by
The Associated Press. (Mustafa Younes via AP, File)
------
March 01, 2024
UNITED NATIONS : Paramilitary forces and their allied
militias fighting to take power in Sudan carried out widespread ethnic killings
and rapes while taking control of much of western Darfur that may amount to war
crimes and crimes against humanity, United Nations experts said in a new
report.
The report to the UN Security Council, obtained Thursday
by The Associated Press, paints a horrifying picture of the brutality of Rapid
Support Forces against Africans in Darfur. It also details how the RSF
succeeded in gaining control of four out of Darfur’s five states, including
through complex financial networks that involve dozens of companies.
Sudan plunged into chaos in April, when long-simmering
tensions between its military led by Gen. Abdel Fattah Burhan, and the Rapid
Support Forces paramilitary commanded by Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, broke out into
street battles in the capital, Khartoum.
Fighting spread to other parts of the country, but in
Sudan’s Darfur region it took on a different form: brutal attacks by the RSF on
African civilians, especially the ethnic Masalit.
Two decades ago, Darfur became synonymous with genocide
and war crimes, particularly by the notorious Janjaweed Arab militias against
populations that identify as Central or East African. It seems that legacy has
returned, with the International Criminal Court’s prosecutor Karim Khan saying
in late January there are grounds to believe both sides are committing possible
war crimes, crimes against humanity or genocide in Darfur.
The panel of experts said Darfur is experiencing “its
worst violence since 2005.”
The ongoing conflict has caused a large-scale
humanitarian crisis and displaced approximately 6.8 million people — 5.4
million within Sudan and 1.4 million who have fled to other countries,
including approximately 555,000 to neighboring Chad, the experts said.
The RSF and rival Sudanese government forces have both
used heavy artillery and shelling in highly populated areas, causing widespread
destruction of critical water, sanitation, education and health care
facilities.
In their 47-page report, the experts said the RSF and its
militias targeted sites in Darfur where displaced people had found shelter,
civilian neighborhoods and medical facilities.
According to intelligence sources, the panel said, in
just one city — Geneina, the capital of West Darfur state near the Chad border
— between 10,000 and 15,000 people were killed.
The experts said sexual violence by the RSF and its
allied militia was widespread.
The panel said that, according to reliable sources from
Geneina, women and girls as young as 14 years old were raped by RSF elements in
a UN World Food Program storage facility that the paramilitary force
controlled, in their homes, or when returning home to collect belongings after
being displaced by the violence. Additionally, 16 girls were reportedly kidnapped
by RSF soldiers and raped in an RSF house.
“Racial slurs toward the Masalit and non-Arab community
formed part of the attacks,” the panel said. “Neighborhoods and homes were
continuously attacked, looted, burned and destroyed,” especially those where
Masalit and other African communities lived, and their people were harassed,
assaulted, sexually abused, and at times executed.
The experts said prominent Masalit community members were
singled out by the RSF, which had a list, and the group’s leaders were harassed
and some executed. At least two lawyers, three prominent doctors and seven
staff members, and human rights activists monitoring and reporting on the
events were also killed, they said.
The RSF and its allied militias looted and destroyed all
hospitals and medical storage facilities, which resulted in the collapse of
health services and the deaths of 37 women with childbirth complications and
200 patients needing kidney dialysis, the panel said.
After the killing of the wali, or governor, of West
Darfur in June, the report said, Masalit and African communities decided to
seek protection at Ardamata, just outside Geneina. A convoy of thousands moved
out at midnight but as they reached a bridge, RSF and allied militias
indiscriminately opened fire, and survivors reported that an estimated 1,000
people were killed, they said.
The panel stressed that disproportionate and
indiscriminate attacks on civilians — including torture, rapes and killings as
well as destruction of critical civilian infrastructure — constitute war crimes
under the 1949 Geneva conventions.
The RSF was formed out of Janjaweed fighters by Sudan’s
former President Omar Al-Bashir, who ruled the country for three decades, was
overthrown during a popular uprising in 2019, and is wanted by the
International Criminal Court for charges of genocide and other crimes during
the conflict in Darfur in the 2000s.
According to the panel, the “RSF’s takeover of Darfur
relied on three lines of support: the Arab allied communities, dynamic and
complex financial networks, and new military supply lines running through Chad,
Libya and South Sudan.”
While both the Sudanese military and RSF engaged in
widespread recruitment drives across Darfur from late 2022, the RSF was more
successful, the experts said. And it “invested large proceeds from its pre-war
gold business in several industries, creating a network of as many as 50
companies.”
The RSF’s complex financial networks “enabled it to
acquire weapons, pay salaries, fund media campaigns, lobby, and buy the support
of other political and armed groups,” the experts said.
United States Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, who
visited Chad in September, called the report’s findings “horrific” and
expressed “deep disappointment” that the UN Security Council and the
international community have paid such little attention to the allegations.
“The people of Sudan feel that they have been forgotten,”
she said.
In light of the humanitarian catastrophe in Sudan and the
broader region, Thomas-Greenfield demanded that the Sudanese military lift its
prohibition on cross-border assistance from Chad and facilitate cross-line
assistance from the east. She also demanded in a statement Wednesday that the
RSF halt the looting of humanitarian warehouses and that both parties stop
harassing humanitarian aid workers.
“The council must act urgently to alleviate human
suffering, hold perpetrators to account, and bring the conflict in Sudan to an
end,” the US ambassador said. “Time is running out.”

Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Sirajul Haq: Concerned At Future
Of Democracy
Chief of
Jamaat-e-Islami Sirajul Haq
-------
2024-03-01
LAHORE: Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Sirajul Haq has
expressed concerns about the future of democracy, urging a national dialogue
among political stakeholders to establish a transparent election mechanism in
Pakistan.
Addressing a press conference at Mansoorah on Thursday,
he said the JI’s Working Committee, which met on Wednesday, has unanimously
deemed the Election 2024 as rigged and controversial, vowing to expose it
democratically.
Haq had presided over the session of the JI’s Majlise
Aamal which discussed election and post-election’s situation and future
strategy.
The JI, he said, has already started efforts for holding
of national dialogue to save the democracy and in this regard, it hosted a
session of the observers and members of civil society.
Haq emphasized the importance of announcing results based
on Form 45, asserting that any government formed on a fake mandate would fail
to address the country’s crises. The nation demanded the poll results should be
announced on the basis of Form 45, he said. He criticized institutions for
falling short of the nation’s expectations regarding election impartiality.
Haq called for the resignation of the Chief Election
Commissioner, saying the latter has failed to protect the democratic rights of
the people of Pakistan. The JI demanded a transparent audit of the 2024
elections through an independent judicial commission inclusive of political
party representations, he said.
Haq asserted that the JI’s mandate was stolen in Karachi
and results tampered with in other parts of the country, declaring the party’s
commitment to never remain silent on the theft of public mandate.
Haq urged the government to provide emergency relief to
the rain-affected people of Gwadar.
Appealing to Muslim world leaders, Haq called for
tangible steps to aid the people of Gaza, condemning the prolonged Israeli
bombings that resulted in a significant death toll. He stressed that only a
strong stance from the Muslim world could bring an end to the atrocities
committed by Zionist forces.

Kashmiri Journalist Asif Sultan Booked Under Stringent
Anti-Terror Law Released After Five Years In Prison
29th February 2024
Kashmiri journalist Asif Sultan, one of first media
professionals booked under a stringent anti-terror law, was released from jail
on Tuesday after being incarcerated for over five years.
He was released on Tuesday following a delay of over two
months after the Jammu and Kashmir High Court quashed his detention due to
procedural lapses.
In a significant development, a Kashmiri journalist who
had been detained under a stringent anti-terror law for five years has been released
from prison. The release marks the end of a prolonged legal battle and has
sparked discussions about the implications of the anti-terror law on freedom of
the press and expression in the region.
The journalist, whose name has not been disclosed in the
initial reports, was arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act
(UAPA), a controversial anti-terror law in India. The UAPA gives authorities
broad powers to detain individuals suspected of involvement in terrorist
activities, often raising concerns about potential misuse and violations of
civil liberties.
The journalist’s release comes after years of legal
proceedings and appeals challenging the grounds of detention and the
application of the UAPA in this particular case. The exact details of the
charges against the journalist remain unclear, as the nature of the accusations
and the evidence presented during the trial have not been fully disclosed.
Human rights organizations and press freedom advocates
have raised concerns about the use of anti-terror laws to stifle dissent and
curb freedom of expression. Critics argue that such laws, while intended to
address legitimate security concerns, can be misused to target journalists,
activists, and political dissenters. The release of the Kashmiri journalist is
likely to fuel ongoing debates about the balance between national security and
the protection of civil liberties.
The case also brings attention to the situation in
Kashmir, a region with a long-standing history of political unrest and conflict.
The media environment in Kashmir has often been challenging, with journalists
facing various pressures, including threats, harassment, and arrests. The
release of the journalist may prompt a reevaluation of the use of anti-terror
laws in the region and their impact on press freedom. ( With Agency Inputs )

Haldwani Violence: Abdul Moid, The Son Of Abdul Malik,
The Alleged ‘Mastermind’ Arrested From Delhi
29th February 2024
Dehradun: Uttarakhand Police has arrested Abdul Moid, the
son of Abdul Malik, the alleged mastermind in the Haldwani violence, officials
said.
The arrest of Moid, who is among the key accused in the
case, takes the total arrests in connection with the February 8 incidents of
stone pelting and arson in Banbhoolpura area of the town to 84, they said.
His father Abdul Malik owned the “illegal” madrassa whose
demolition sparked violence in the town prompting authorities to impose a
curfew that was lifted entirely after 12 days of gradual relaxation.
Malik was arrested on February 24, 16 days after the
Banbhoolpura violence which left six persons dead and over 100 injured,
including police personnel and journalists.
A look out notice was issued earlier against the
father-son duo and a massive manhunt launched to nab them.
Their properties in the town were also attached earlier.
Malik had vehemently opposed the administration’s action
and his wife Safia had gone to the court challenging the Municipal Corporation
notice for its demolition.
However, the court did not grant them immediate relief
and the structure was demolished, triggering incidents of stone-pelting and
arson in the Muslim-dominated Banbhoolpura area.
Apart from the three FIRs lodged initially, a fresh case
was registered by the police against six persons including Malik and his wife
Safia charging them with criminal conspiracy and fraudulently using a dead
man’s name for illegal plotting, construction and transfer of land, the police
had said.

Abdul Hadi’s Statement Involving Malay Rulers Unethical,
Driven By Political Interests: Academics
29-02- 2024
KUALA LUMPUR: PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s
(pix) statement in his article titled ‘Ketinggian Islam Wajib Dipertahankan’
(Islam’s sanctity must be defended) on Feb 20, which among others, was
addressed to the Malay Rulers, has been described as unethical and driven by
political interests.
Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Institution of Malay
Rulers Chair fellow Mujibu Abd Muis said in a statement that Abdul Hadi’s
remarks, which also touched on the interests of the Malay and Islamic
communities as well as the Federal Constitution, merely sought to portray as if
only his party was championing the matter.
“Here he is, championing something that is actually not
an issue at all, but is being championed conceptually for political mileage,
even though it has been clearly enshrined in the constitution since independence
that Islam cannot be questioned.
“In fact, efforts to uphold the Islamic principles and
strengthen all institutions related to Islam have often been carried out by the
Malay Rulers, including after the establishment of the MKI (National Council of
Islamic Religious Affairs),“ he told Bernama today.
Earlier, the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris
Shah, through a post on the Selangor Royal Office’s Facebook page today,
expressed deep regret over the cynical statement of the Marang MP.
Sultan Sharafuddin remarked that it was a statement that
was highly inappropriate and lacked cultural refinement from the perspective of
Malay culture, which always respects and upholds decorum when expressing views
and advice to the Malay Rulers.
Further commenting on this, Mujibu stated that Abdul
Hadi’s statement involving the Malay Rulers was not surprising, considering
that the political figure had previously engaged in similar actions towards the
Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin.
“In the past, he did the same thing, (continued to give
lectures) even though at that time Sultan Mizan expressed his regret, issuing a
prohibition against those without religious authority from giving lectures in
mosques under the supervision of the Terengganu State Government, but he defied
it,“ he said.
Echoing Mujibu’s sentiments, Geostrategist and Senior
Fellow at the Nusantara Academy for Strategic Research (NASR), Prof Dr Azmi
Hassan, opined that Abdul Hadi was still maintaining a narrative based on race
and religion, as seen in several past election campaigns, in order to garner
support from the Malay community.
“I don’t see where the logic of his thinking is, as an
old-timer, who is also called an ‘ulama’, to come out with a statement touching
on the Malay Rulers.
“So his statement is very disappointing, especially
considering that he knows the position of the Malay Rulers in safeguarding the
interests of all Muslims regardless of political affiliation. The Federal
Constitution also protects the sanctity of Islam, so there’s no need to link
PAS’s political interests with our monarchy institutions,“ he said.
Azmi stated that if Abdul Hadi had any suggestions or
issues regarding Islamic affairs and the Federal Constitution, it would be
better to voice them in Parliament in his capacity as a Member of Parliament.
Meanwhile, Dr Jazimin Zakaria, Senior Lecturer at the
Faculty of Administrative Science and Policy Studies, UiTM Kedah, said that
Abdul Hadi’s action of dragging the Malay Rulers into the political platform
was highly inappropriate.
“The position of the Malay Rulers is sensitive, and our political
climate is currently unstable, so making statements on such platforms (PAS News
website through the ‘Minda Presiden PAS’ column) will only open the door for
others to criticise the special position of the Malay Rulers,“ he said.

Maluku Protestant Church Calls For Prayers For
Palestinian Children
February 29, 2024
Ambon (ANTARA) - The Commission of Children and Youth of
the Maluku Protestant Church (GPM) called for prayers for children in war-torn
Palestine to live in peace and lead a happy life like others their age.
This prayer call is made in the framework of the World
Children's Prayer Day (HDSA) held annually by the Communion of Churches in
Indonesia (PGI).
“This year's HDSA was held for Palestine. HDSA worship
activities are annual activities carried out at the GPM Rumah Tiga Ambon
Congregation," Chairman of the GPM Children and Youth Commission of Desa
Rumah Tiga Semy Papilaya stated in Ambon, Thursday.
Some 600 children, in the age bracket of three to 15
years, participated in the activity with caregivers, supervisors, and
commissions.
They presented a performance of history, culture, natural
resources, geographical location, and the condition of the state of Palestine
this year in the form of a parade.
"From this activity, we show our love and concern in
Palestine for our friends in the World Children's Prayer Day Celebration,"
he remarked.
Papilaya noted that in future, concern for Palestine will
be followed up by raising funds through the GPM Congregation's humanitarian
program.
"Of course, we will involve children. At least
through prayer and concrete actions, we can provide hope and positive change
for children in need around the world, including in Palestine," he added.
In this vibration of joint prayer, the children made
their own Palestinian flag attributes and wore colored clothes that matched
with the color of the Palestinian flag.
Sunday School children also demonstrated the Dabke dance
as a typical Palestinian dance form and conducted parades while carrying
Palestinian ornaments, such as bread, wine, watermelon, oranges, eggplants,
olive trees, gazella gazelles, as well as sand, bricks, and gold as the main
source of livelihood in Palestine.
In addition, the children played the Ukulele while
singing the song "God Love All Children in the World."
The worship was made lively through the peaceful message
conveyed in the parade themed "Love brings Peace."
Children are taught to live in love with one another in
the family environment and school, including towards society and also
strangers, so as to create peace for all parties.

Indonesia Denies Rumours On Its Diplomatic Relations With
Israel
March 1, 2024
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Presidential Special Staff Coordinator
Ari Dwipayana emphasized that circulated news in foreign media, stating that
Indonesia had plans for official diplomatic relations with Israel, is false.
"The information is completely incorrect,"
Dwipayana stated in a short message on Thursday (February 29).
His statement was a response to the news published by
jewishinsider.com media saying that Indonesia had plans to establish official
diplomatic relations with Israel.
Dwipayana said the Indonesian President Joko Widodo did
not send any special envoy to talk to Israel.
In terms of foreign affairs policy, President Jokowi
assigns the foreign affairs minister and no others.
"The president's official is represented by the
statements and stance of the foreign minister," he stated.
On February 26, Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno
Marsudi urged the United Nations Human Rights Council to address the fatal
human rights violations committed by Israel against Palestinians.
She made the statement at the High-Level Segment of the
55th regular session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland.
"I conveyed that we must not stay silent about the
suspension of funding to UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for
Palestine Refugees), while funds to support war crimes in Gaza continue to
flow," she emphasized.
On January 25, she walked out of the UN Security Council
(UNSC) open debate regarding Palestine while Israel's Ambassador to the UN
Gilad Erdan was delivering his speech at the meeting.
At the meeting, Marsudi conveyed Indonesia's rejection of
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's statement opposing the
establishment of a Palestinian state after the war ends.
"Indonesia strongly rejects this statement. This
statement is unacceptable. This confirmed Israel's ultimate goal to wipe
Palestine from the world map," she remarked.

China Envoy In Geneva Reiterates Call For Ceasefire In
Gaza
Mar 1, 2024
TEHRAN, Mar. 01 (MNA) – Chen Xu, permanent representative
of China to the United Nations Office in Geneva and other international
organizations in Switzerland, on Thursday reiterated China's call for an
immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
As the Gaza Strip is facing an unparalleled humanitarian
crisis, an immediate ceasefire is the urgent demand of the global community and
a fundamental necessity for achieving peace, Chen said while elaborating on
China's position on the situation between Palestine and Israel at the 55th
session of the UN Human Rights Council, Xinhua reported.
China is calling on Israel to allow humanitarian
organizations to have the resources they need to conduct rescue missions in
Gaza and to properly enforce the interim measures and directives from the
International Court of Justice, Chen said.
Chen emphasized that China has always firmly supported
the just cause of the Palestinian people to restore their legitimate national
rights, and strongly opposed the forced transfer of the Palestinian people and
the occupation of Palestinian territory.
The two-state solution is the general consensus of the
international community and a realistic way to ultimately realize the peaceful
coexistence of Palestine and Israel, Chen said, urging all countries to make
unremitting efforts to this end.

Israel Marks Over 600 Acres Of Seized Palestinian Land
For Settlement Expansion
29 February 2024
Israel plans to seize hundreds of acres of Palestinian
land in the occupied West Bank to expand a settlement. It is viewed as one of
the regime’s biggest land-grab schemes.
The regime’s authorities on Thursday appropriated several
tracts of land near the settlement. The territory would now be designated as
part of the Maale Adumim settlement, east of al-Quds.
The tracts amount to 2,640 dunams, or 652 acres. The West
Bank, including East al-Quds, is among the territories Israel captured in 1967.
Much of the international community deems the settlements
illegal. On February 24, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Washington
deemed the West Bank settlements inconsistent with international law.
The Palestinian Authority has called on all countries to
put individuals tied to settler organizations or companies investing in
settlement construction across the occupied Palestinian territories on their
terror lists.
The United Nations has already published a list of
companies with business ties to Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian
territories.
The Palestinians have called for serious international
intervention to force the regime to stop the settlement expansion.
Tension hangs in the air in an occupied West Bank village
nestled amid rolling hills and olive groves. Out of nowhere, a deafening roar
of helicopter blades resonates there, exacerbating tensions.
The UN is concerned about the surging violence
perpetuated by Israeli settlers in the West Bank, terming it “terrorism”
against the Palestinians.
Acts of violence by Israeli settlers against the
Palestinians and their property are a daily occurrence throughout the West
Bank.
The regime has escalated its acts of aggression against
the Palestinians across the West Bank since early October 2023, when it began
the campaign of death and destruction in the besieged Gaza Strip.
In its latest report, the UN said around 400
Palestinians, including at least 100 children, have been killed in the West
Bank since.

Iran, Organization Of Islamic Cooperation Condemn
Israel's Attack On Civilians In Gaza
Esra Tekin and Ekrem Biceroglu
01.03.2024
Iran and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)
issued separate statements Thursday condemning Israel's firing on civilians
awaiting humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip, killing dozens.
"More than 100 Palestinian citizens who were waiting
in line to receive humanitarian aid on Al-Rashid Street in Gaza were martyred,
more than 800 people were injured due to the barbaric attack by the Zionist
Regime," Iran's foreign ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said on X.
"The wound of Gaza will not be erased from the
memory of the free people of the world, and the shame of supporting and
remaining silent towards the mass killing and genocide of Palestinians by the
criminal Zionist regime will be evident on the foreheads of the false champions
of #HumanRights in the #UnitedStates and #Europe," Kanaaini added.
In a statement, the OIC said it "condemns in the
strongest terms the continued massacres and war crimes committed by the Israeli
occupation army, the latest of which was the heinous massacre against
Palestinian citizens who were waiting for aid trucks at the Nabulsi roundabout
near Al-Rashid Street in Gaza City, which led to the martyrdom and injury of
hundreds of them."
It also urged the global community to
"urgently" halt the Israel's "crimes of genocide," ensure
the international safeguarding of Palestinian civilians, and guarantee the
timely delivery of essential supplies and continuous urgent humanitarian aid
for them.
Also, Al-Azhar Univeristy in Egypt called Israel’s
targeting of Palestinians gathered to receive aid in the Gaza Strip a
"stain on humanity" in a written statement.
It called on the international community to "awaken
from an unprecedented slumber in history" to stop the Israel’s attacks on
Gaza.
Early Thursday, Israeli forces shelled a crowd of
Palestinians waiting for humanitarian aid south of Gaza City at the
"al-Nabulsi Roundabout" area, killing at least 112 Palestinians and
injuring 760 others, according to the Gaza-based Health Ministry.
Israel has launched a deadly military offensive on the
Gaza Strip since an Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas attack, which Tel Aviv said killed less
than 1,200 people.
At least 30,035 Palestinians have since been killed and
70,457 others injured amid mass destruction and shortages of necessities.
Israel has also imposed a crippling blockade on the Gaza
Strip, leaving its population, particularly residents of northern Gaza, on the
verge of starvation.
The Israeli war has pushed 85% of Gaza’s population into
internal displacement amid acute shortages of food, clean water and medicine,
while 60% of the enclave's infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed,
according to the UN.
Israel is accused of genocide at the International Court
of Justice. An interim ruling in January ordered Tel Aviv to stop genocidal
acts and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to
civilians in Gaza.

Israel Is Still Reviewing Access To Al Aqsa Over Ramadan
FEBRUARY 29, 2024
Israel is reviewing possible curbs on access to Al Aqsa
mosque in Jerusalem over the upcoming Ramadan fasting month, a government
spokesperson said after media reports that the far-right minister for police
might be overruled on the issue.
Al Aqsa, Islam's third-holiest shrine, is a focus of
Palestinian statehood hopes. The site is also revered by Jews as a vestige of
their two ancient temples. Israeli controls on access have often stoked
political friction, especially during Ramadan.
Limiting entry at the holy site
National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said last week
there would be a quota for members of Israel's 18% Muslim minority who wish to
take part in peace prayers at Al Aqsa.
That would compound the clampdown Israel has already
placed on Palestinians since the Hamas' cross-border rampage from the Gaza
Strip on October 7, codenamed "Al Aqsa Flood," which triggered the
ongoing Gaza war.
But Israel's top-rated Channel 12 TV reported on
Wednesday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would overrule Ben-Gvir.
"The specific issue of prayer on the Temple Mount,
in Al Aqsa, is currently still under discussion by the cabinet,"
Government Spokesperson Avi Hyman said in a briefing on Thursday.
He added that a final decision would take security and
public health, as well as the freedom of worship, into account.
A Ben-Gvir spokesperson did not respond to a request for
comment.
On Wednesday, Ben-Gvir posted on X that any attempt to
override his authority would amount to a "capitulation to terror" and
urged Netanyahu to deny the Channel 12 report.

UN Official Says Israel's Madness In Preventing UNRWA
From Distributing Aid Must Stop
[01/March/2024]
GAZA March.01. 2024 (Saba) - Commissioner-General of the
United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) Philippe
Lazzarini has confirmed that Israel's insanity prevents the agency from
distributing humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip.
Lazzarini said, according to al-Mayadeen TV, that the
death toll in the Gaza Strip, which has exceeded 30,000 since the start of the
aggression, has reached “unprecedented numbers.”
He also pointed out that the martyrs in the Gaza Strip
today were “desperately trying to obtain life-saving humanitarian aid.”
Earlier, Thursday morning, Lazzarini said that the
Israeli occupation is preventing aid from reaching the northern Gaza Strip,
calling for a “ceasefire for humanitarian reasons.”
Lazzarini added in a statement that “there is not enough
animal feed for people to eat in northern Gaza,” while a man-made famine looms
on the horizon.

Israel frees dozens of Palestinians in administrative
detention, citing lack of space
01.03.2024
The IDF and Shin Bet said Thursday night that some 40
Palestinian suspects held under administrative detention had been released,
saying the move was aimed at freeing up space “for detainees of a higher threat
level.”
The statement noted the released suspects had been slated
to be freed in the coming month.
Administrative detention is a controversial tool whereby
Palestinian terror suspects and, more rarely, Jewish terror suspects, are
detained without charge or trial. The tool is typically used when authorities
have intelligence tying a suspect to a crime but do not have enough evidence
for charges to stand up in a court of law.
The detentions must be renewed by a military court every
six months, and prisoners can remain in jail for years under the mechanism.
Israel says administrative detention is a tool that helps keep dangerous
terrorists off the streets and allows the government to hold suspects without
divulging sensitive intelligence. Critics say the policy denies prisoners due
process.
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir railed at the
release, claiming they were not, in fact, freed due to overcrowding.
“[They were released] because of the direct order of the
Shin Bet head as a ‘gesture’ ahead of Ramadan,” the far-right politician
alleged.
Ben Gvir said the Israel Prisons Service, which is under
his authority, “has no judgment on the matter.”
He also fumed at Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar because the
release took place on the same day two Israelis were killed in a terror
shooting in the West Bank and a day after the extension of a settler activist’s
administrative detention.
“It is worrying that on the day that two Jews were
murdered, the head of the Shin Bet chooses to pay tribute to the murderers,” he
wrote.
Activists estimated in February that the number of
Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails had swelled to around 9,000, from about
5,200 before Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israel, when terrorists from Gaza
invaded southern Israel and slaughtered about 1,200 people, most of them
civilians in their homes and at a music festival, and kidnapped 253.
Israeli prison authorities announced a state of emergency
after October 7 to prevent the potential involvement of inmates in further
unrest.
Popular Palestinian station Radio Ajyal has since been
inundated with messages from prisoners’ relatives reporting tough restrictions
on detainees, including the denial of visitations and phone calls.
The Palestinian Prisoners Club advocacy group said visits
by the International Committee of the Red Cross have also stopped. Both the
ICRC and Israel declined to comment, but Israel has previously said that ICRC
visits were suspended until Hamas allows the Red Cross access to the hostages
in Gaza.
While some Palestinians are detained without known
charges, the most common grounds for arrest range from online calls for
violence to alleged terrorist activity.
Palestinian-American Samaher Esmail, who was detained
after posting terror-related content on social media, was also released on bail
on Thursday after three weeks of imprisonment. Her arrest made waves in the
international community due to her dual citizenship, with her son Suliman
Hamed, who lives in New Orleans, raising awareness of her situation on social
media as well as mainstream news media.
Esmail’s lawyer charged that Israeli forces beat her
during the arrest, did not give her time to put on her hijab and her Israeli
interrogator did not ask properly if Esmail wanted an attorney present.
It was not clear if Esmail was counted among those
released Thursday or whether her release on bail was a separate matter.

Egypt, UAE Airdrop Humanitarian Aid To Palestinians In
War-Battered Gaza
Ahmed Asmar
29.02.2024
Egyptian and Emirati planes airdropped humanitarian aid
to Palestinians in the northern Gaza Strip, according to Egypt’s military on
Thursday.
Military spokesman Gharib Abdel-Hafez said dozens of tons
of humanitarian aid and relief supplies were dropped “to ease the severe
humanitarian crisis” in northern Gaza.
He said the humanitarian assistance included food,
medicine and other essential supplies.
Jordan said early Thursday that it had carried out two
operations to airdrop humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip, in cooperation with
Oman and Bahrain.
Similar operations were carried out by Egypt, Jordan, the
UAE, Qatar and France earlier this week.
Israel has launched a deadly military offensive on the
Gaza Strip since an Oct. 7 Hamas attack, which Tel Aviv says killed nearly
1,200 people.
At least 30,035 Palestinians have since been killed and
over 70,457 others injured amid mass destruction and shortages of necessities.

Tension In Zamfara As Armed Bandits Attack Mosque, Abduct
Worshipers
Jerry Wright-Ukwu
February 29, 2024
Armed bandits have reportedly attacked a mosque in Tsafe
town, the headquarters of Tsafe Local Government Area in Zamfara State,
Nigeria.
According to a resident of the town, Abubakar Tsafe, the
assailants parked their motorcycles on the outskirts of the city and entered in
native attire to avoid detection.
He told Channels Television that during the attack, the
bandits surrounded the mosque and abducted an unspecified number of worshipers.
The incident has raised concerns about the deteriorating
security situation in Zamfara State, where criminal elements frequently carry
out violent acts, including abductions and attacks on communities.
In response to the situation, members of the Zamfara
State Community Protection Guards, also known as Askarawa, have been mobilized
to rescue the kidnapped victims.
The guards, led by the Commander, Retired Colonel Rabiu
Yandoto, are reportedly conducting operations in the bush to locate and secure
the release of the abductees.
The Zamfara State Police Command has not officially

‘Merging Army Varsity With NDA Will Aid Battle Against
Boko Haram’
March 1, 2024
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has urged the Federal
Government to reconsider merging the Army University at Biu in Borno State with
the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna.
The governor also urged the government to allow the
National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM) in Ilorin, the Kwara
State capital, to remain as it is, instead of being a department in the
Ministry of Agriculture.
Zulum said these while addressing reporters yesterday in
Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
He said the Army University at Biu, which is a
conventional university, should be allowed to remain so or be handed over to
the Ministry of Education to continue in that capacity, if the Army was not
interested in having a university.
According to him, the university has been playing a
critical role in the education of students in the Northeast, particularly in
Borno State, where education was seriously affected by over a decade due to
insurgency.
“This university is very important to the people of Borno
State and the northeast in general. I am appealing to the President to look
into this issue.
“Secondly, I want to make a case for the National Centre
for Agricultural Mechanisation, which has a very important role to play at this
material time when the Federal Government is looking towards promoting food
security.
“NCAM is the only centre saddled with the responsibility
of fabricating agricultural tools and implements in Nigeria,” Zulum said.
The governor expressed the hope that a technical
committee would be set up to review some of the measures taken.

‘How Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger Can Return To ECOWAS’
Emmanuel Oladesu, Deputy Editor
March 1, 2024
Auniversity teacher, Prof. Amadu Sesay, has called on
Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) leaders to employ tact to
convince Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger to return.
Sesay, former head of International Relations at Obafemi
Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, said those countries can be approached by seasoned
diplomats to retrace their steps.
The don, author of The Politics of Regional Integration
in West Africa, said by lifting sanctions, which it imposed on the three for
military takeovers, ECOWAS put paid to the threat of use of force being used to
compel them to return to civilian rule.
Sesay, told reporters yesterday that emphasis has shifted to the search for diplomatic
solutions leading to an acceptable resolution.
He urged ECOWAS leaders to look for credible emissaries
to drive diplomatic engagements acceptable to all.
Sesay said: “I hope ECOWAS will look within its Committee
of the Wise to choose those to drive diplomatic engagements to provide pathways
for return of the three.
“This is a delicate and time-consuming endeavour.The
outcomes are also unpredictable, and no one should expect quick fixes because
ECOWAS is made up of sovereign states. It has no supranational powers as
European Union.
“Tact and patience are of utmost importance, especially
at this stage of engagements.
“We should remember that the three countries made it
clear they had taken sovereign decisions, which implies that national ego,
pride, and prestige are already at stake.”
He said ECOWAS leaders’ decision to lift sanctions, even
when the three had yet to make concessions, especially on their threat to quit
ECOWAS, was “right and realistic.”
Sesay, however, said the decision also implied a sign of
weakness on the part of ECOWAS and a tacit admission that it had not achieved
the results, as well as their negative fallout on all sides.
“ECOWAS is not a supranational body, it cannot compel
compliance with its decisions as Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso actions
demonstrated.
“What lifting of sanctions also implies is that the
Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance, once the backbone of ECOWAS’
strategy, is no longer realistic.
“Neither is it enforceable in the political and
socio-economic conditions in member states and in the region.
“It remains to be seen how ECOWAS will fill the gap to
promot democracy and good governance after that.
“I hope the action will not lead to dramatic democratic
and governance reversals in the region,” he said.

Pakistan’s Parliament Sworn In As Imran Khan’s Supporters
Continue Protests
29 February 2024
Pakistan’s newly elected parliament has been sworn in
amid protests on the floor of the house by the supporters of former Prime
Minister Imran Khan, who is in jail.
The protesters allege massive vote rigging during the
recent elections.
The legislature includes the Pakistan Muslim
League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif, the PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif,
the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Zardari, the PPP chairman
Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) leader Gohar Ali
Khan, and the PTI secretary general Omar Ayub Khan.
Khan’s PTI obtained 93 seats, followed by Nawaz Sharif’s
PML-N securing 75. The PPP obtained 54.
Most seats were earned by candidates backed by the former
cricket hero Khan. Still, the PML-N and the PPP have agreed to form a coalition
government, with one of the PTI-backed legislators also joining Sharif’s party.
According to the country’s constitution, the national
assembly should meet within 21 days after the day of polling.
The election for the prime minister will be held on March
3, said a statement from the parliament’s secretariat.
As legislators, including the PML-N-PPP’s candidate for
prime minister Shehbaz Sharif, signed the membership register of the national
assembly, Khan’s followers erupted in chants of support: “Who will save
Pakistan? Imran Khan, Imran Khan!”
Nawaz Sharif’s younger brother, Shehbaz, previously
served as prime minister for 16 months after Khan lost a parliamentary vote of
confidence in 2022.
Meanwhile, PTI announced the name of its candidate, Omar
Ayub, with the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC). Ayub has vowed his party would seek
the release of Khan.
Khan was has been convicted in a string of cases and
faces over a decade in jail.
The SIC alleges the elections were rigged and has called
for an audit of the polls. No single party won a majority during the highly
controversial February 8 national elections.
In the national assembly, consisting of 336 members, 266
are elected through direct voting while 70 are appointed. Among the appointed
members, 60 seats are allocated for women and 10 for representatives of
religious minorities.
A political party or alliance needs 169 seats in the
national assembly to assume power, while the selection of nominees is determined
by the electoral performance of each political party.
Throughout the 77-year history of Pakistan, no prime
minister has managed to serve a full five-year term, due to the significant
political influence wielded by the military.

IHC To Proceed With Imran’s Pleas, Even If Prosecutor Not
Appointed
March 1, 2024
Malik Asad
ISLAMABAD: Perturbed by the prosecution agencies’
response to ex-prime minister Imran Khan’s appeals against his conviction in
cipher and Toshakhana cases, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday
directed the federal government to appoint prosecutors before the next date of
hearing.
The IHC division bench comprising Chief Justice Aamer
Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb resumed hearing on the appeals
against the conviction of Mr Khan and ex-foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi
in the cipher case.
Barrister Salman Safdar, counsel for the former premier,
informed the court that Mr Qureshi had filed an application seeking suspension
of his sentence.
The directive to the government came when Deputy Attorney
General Azmat Tarar apprised the court that the appointment of two special
prosecutors of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had not been finalised as the
process was still ongoing.
Justice Aurangzeb expressed displeasure and remarked that
the court wouldn’t be bothered if the prosecutors were not appointed by March
5, the next date of hearing.
Justice Aurangzeb told Mr Tarar, “You are representing
the state. You should take notes and share with the prosecution as the court
continues the hearing.”
Barrister Safdar invited the court’s attention to Mr
Khan’s ‘speedy’ trial, saying that prosecution had produced 25 witnesses before
the judge in one single day while trial court recorded their testimonies till
midnight.
He pointed out that the judge moved the court to a
“secret” location where the “prosecution and the judge played a match
together”.
CJ Farooq remarked that since the hearing on the appeals
had already been fixed, the counsel may advance his arguments at length on the
same date and the court would examine the matter accordingly.
While dictating the order of the day, Justice Farooq
said: “The conduct of state/respondent is not prompt and is not appreciated.”
The court directed the state to complete the process for
the appointment of prosecutor before the next date of hearing.
The bench then took up the appeals of Mr Khan and his
spouse, Bushra Bibi, against their conviction in the Toshakhana reference.
Barrister Syed Ali Zafar, counsel for the couple, argued
that this matter was even graver as the judge had closed the right of
cross-examination in this case.
NAB Deputy Prosecutor General Azhar Maqbool Shah informed
the court that Special Prosecutor Amjad Sohail was not available owing to the
death of his a relative.
He suggested the hearing may be adjourned till March 11.
Justice Farooq reminded him that it is the bench that
schedules and regulates the hearing.
Barrister Safdar stated that Mr Khan, his spouse and Mr
Qureshi had also filed petitions seeking suspension of their sentence and
conviction.
Justice Aurangzeb remarked that IHC had already ruled in
the matter related to suspension of conviction and the matter was pending
before the Supreme Court.
“We have already fixed the appeals for a short date, if
you want us to take up the petitions seeking suspension of conviction, then we
would adjourn the hearing sine die,” remarked the judge.
Barrister Zafar, however, requested the court to hear
the appeals.
Subsequently, the case was adjourned to March 5.
Iddat case
District and Sessions Judge Shahrukh Arjumand took up Mr
Khan and Bushra Bibi’s appeals against their conviction in the Iddat case.
The judge issued notices to complainant Khawar Farid
Maneka and adjourned the hearing to March 11.
Salman Akram Raja, counsel for the PTI’s founder, argued
that Mr Khan married Bushra Bibi 70 days after the latter got divorce from Mr
Maneka. He said that filing of complaint by Mr Maneka after a gap of six years
was an afterthought.
He further said that the trial court had overlooked legal
provisions and religious principles while convicting them in this case.
Complaint against CJP
Talking to media persons outside Adiala Jail, PTI leader
Shoaib Shaheen recalled that a five-member bench of the Supreme Court had in
2021 pointed out that Justice Qazi Faez Isa was prejudiced against the former
premier and, therefore, held that he should not hear the cases involving Mr
Khan.
Mr Shaheen said the PTI’s leadership was of the opinion
that Justice Isa could not be fair now and should recuse himself from matters
related to Mr Khan.

£190m NCA Case Chargesheet Says Imran, Bushra Benefitted
From Deal
March 01, 2024
ISLAMABAD: The chargesheet in £190 million Al-Qadir Trust
case against PTI founder Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi has come to surface,
detailing the benefits they got.
It revealed that in April 2019, Al-Qadir University did
not exist. In Britain, the National Crime Agency traced the £190 million scam.
Before the money was transferred to Pakistan, the head of East Recovery Unit
Shahzad Akbar made a secret agreement with a business tycoon.
The chargesheet says Shahzad Akbar signed the National
Crime Agency (NCA) confidentiality deed on December 6, 2019 while the then
prime minister Imran Khan approved the Al-Qadir Trust in the cabinet.
The charge sheet further said Bushra Bibi helped Imran
Khan by signing documents as trustee on March 24, 2021.
The report says a meeting between the tycoon and former
prime minister Imran Khan, along with the former accountability adviser Shahzad
Akbar, took place before the settlement of 190 million pounds.
As per the PM House record, the meeting took place on
July 11, 2019.
It is pertinent to mention that PTI founder Imran Khan
and his wife Bushra Bibi were indicted in the £190 million graft case during a
hearing held by the Islamabad’s accountability court in Adiala Jail on Tuesday.
The court has now sought five witnesses in the next
hearing. Accountability court judge Nasir Javed Rana held the hearing and
announced the verdict.
Both the accused refused the charges levelled against
them by the prosecution. However, two applications submitted by Imran Khan have
been approved.
The PTI founder had sought permission to have a checkup
by a dentist as well as a general physician of his choice.
The hearing was adjourned till March 6.
The record of correspondence with the UK’s National Crime
Agency, held by the Asset Recovery Unit of the previous government, has
disappeared.

Pakistan and Denmark special envoys discuss Afghan
migrants
Fidel Rahmati
February 29, 2024
Asif Ali Durrani and Lars Bo Møller, special
representatives of Pakistan and Denmark respectively on Afghan affairs, met to
discuss the issues concerning Afghan migrants, according to reports.
Asif Ali Durrani, Pakistan’s special representative,
announced on Thursday, February 29th, via his social media platform X, about
his meeting with Lars Bo Møller, Denmark’s special representative on
Afghanistan affairs.
Further details about these meetings have not yet been
disclosed.
Earlier, Thomas West, the United States special
representative on Afghanistan affairs, had announced meeting and discussing
with Pakistani authorities to facilitate Afghan migrants.
It is worth noting that despite international reactions,
the process of expelling Afghan migrants from Pakistan began in November last
year and continues to date.
According to statistics from the United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the past three months, approximately
500,000 Afghan migrants have been expelled from Pakistan.
This comes as the increasing return of Afghan migrants
from Pakistan has heightened the humanitarian needs, including shelter, water,
and medical care, in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, the dire humanitarian situation in Afghanistan
remains a pressing concern, exacerbated by the lack of essential resources for
returnees, highlighting the urgent need for international assistance and
support to address these challenges effectively.

‘Nothing Will Change for Muslims Unless there is a
Reckoning with Britain’s Normalised Islamophobia’
Sharmen Rahman
1 March 2024
language of terror that is routinely associated with
Muslims.
Palestinians are ‘extremist’ and ‘terrorists’. British
Muslims are ‘extremist’, ‘terrorist’ and ‘misogynist’ who are now apparently
“in charge of Britain”. The language of
one reaffirms the other and consequently harm towards Muslims – whether
Palestinian or British – is legitimised.
The increase in hostilities towards British Muslims as a
plausible genocide is being enacted in Gaza is not coincidental; and it does
not just arise from simple ignorance. It is embedded top-down by the very
instruments that govern this country.
British Muslim communities live in an environment in which
Islamophobia is omnipresent – both directly and structurally.
Despite only comprising 6.5% of the total population,
Home Office data on hate crime shows that Muslims were the target of 44% of all
religious hate crimes in 2022-2023. Islamophobia is also pervasive
structurally, in the Labour market, in health and across society. This is the
constant, the normal for British Muslims.
Throw in an eruption of violence in the Middle East, and
the inflammatory language that accompanies it, and the risks to British Muslims
are magnified.
It is therefore no surprise that in this context, the
Islamophobia Response Unit (IRU) released shocking data recently revealing the
sharp spike in Islamophobic incidents.
When directly compared to the preceding five-month average,
incidents in October 2023 rose by 365%; by 325% in November; by 206% in
December; and by 206% again in January 2024.
The first half of February is already showing a 301%
increase in comparison to the previous five-month average.
These are shocking figures despite Muslim communities
tending to be reluctant to report such incidents. Depressingly, the true
figures may be much worse.
The incidents vary from silencing and censorship to
verbal and physical harm.
Take Uzma, a successful executive with an impressive CV
citing EY, PwC and Microsoft as past employers. She was banned from LinkedIn
for what she believes to be her pro-Palestinian activism. She had a following
of 80,000 supporters and more than five million impressions for her content.
Uzma took the opportunity to use her platform to talk about the events in
Israel and Gaza. Exercising her freedom of speech has cost her access to her
livelihood and with little to no support from the platform.
Then there is the year 13 student who was pulled from his
classes and interviewed by two teachers because he wore a Palestine badge. Was
he Muslim? Did he go to mosque? Did he have a British passport? These were
questions he was subjected to by adults that he should have been able to trust.
All of them centralised his identity as a Muslim. And all served to spotlight
his identity as a problem. This is not the isolated actions of two teachers, it
is the result of legislation made by this state which embeds and legitimises
the marginalisation of Muslims – even if they are children.
There is also the direct Islamophobia experienced by
Muslims on a daily basis; individuals being harassed as they walk down the
street or use public transport. One such case documented by the IRU involved a
visibly Muslim person being spat at on a train then being goaded for not
responding, which resulted in them being subjected to further racial slurs.
Muslims engaged in the most mundane activities are deemed offensive by their
very existence.

and holds power to account.

hedge-fund. We rely on our readers to fund our journalism. If you like what we

These are just three examples of many incidents that
impact Muslims in all walks of life and in all settings. This cannot be a
surprise given the normalisation, indeed the rewarding of Islamophobia within
our political discourse.
Contrary to the easily identifiable Islamophobia of the
right, Islamophobia transcends the political spectrum. You can be elevated to
the House of Lords after running an Islamophobic campaign in the case of Lord
Zac Goldsmith. You can hold positions in the highest office of the land in the
case of Boris Johson. You can use it as a ‘get out of jail free card’ if you
are the Speaker of the House who has thwarted the conventions of Parliament.
The returns on Islamophobia are undoubtedly attractive
unless you happen to be a Muslim.
In that case, even holding positions of power does not
immunise you from its presence as the experiences of Humza Yousaf, Zara
Sultana, Apsana Begum or Sadiq Khan show.
When Islamophobia permeates societal structures and is
propagated proudly in our political discourse, we cannot expect the harms that
it inflicts on British Muslims to cease. The symptoms may present on our
streets, but the disease has taken hold of those at the top.
Without a reckoning with the normalised Islamophobia in our
political discourse, organisations like the Islamophobia Response Unit will
never be out of work and British Muslims will never truly be safe.

An Imam And Rabbi Confound Stereotypes, Tell Austrian
Students ‘Separate Religion From Politics’
29/02/2024
More than 150 students crowded into a room at an Austrian
high school to hear an unlikely duo speak, imam Ramazan Demir and rabbi Schlomo
Hofmeister.
The two men’s talks, educating students about their
religions, have taken on additional pertinence with the outbreak of the Gaza war.
Since then Austria has seen a rise in both anti-Semitic
and anti-Muslim acts, as elsewhere in Europe.
“We must separate religion from politics,” rabbi
Hofmeister, 48, told the students, while imam Demir, 38, nodded in support.
“This is not a religious war, it is a political conflict,
a terrible conflict that must not impact our communities here in Europe,”
Hofmeister added.
The two volunteers are in high demand because “just our
friendship alone defies stereotypes”, according to Demir.
The imam and rabbi’s diaries are packed until June, with
the pair visiting some 30 Austrian schools.
During last week’s two-hour discussion at a high school
in a working-class suburb of the capital, questions came thick and fast from
the students aged 16 to 18.
A livestream allowed those unable to get a seat in the
large hall to hear them explain how Jews and Muslims pray to the differences
between kosher and halal.
The two bearded men, one wearing a keffieh, the other a
wide-brimmed fedora hat, met ten years ago during an inter-religious project
and have since worked together, travelling to Turkey, Israel and the
Palestinian territories.
The Gaza war has not affected their friendship.
“We want there to be peace, without any ifs and whens,”
Demir said, while Hofmeister added that he was “glad they started to cooperate
so early on to be able to address the current crisis.”
Austria is a majority Catholic country, with Muslims
making up around eight percent of the population. Only zero point one percent
declared themselves as Jewish in the 2021 census.
“After we leave, the students may not remember everything
we told them,” admitted Hofmeister.
“But they will remember that an imam and a rabbi came to
their school and that they got along well.”

‘This Is For Gaza’: George Galloway Wins UK Seat After
Campaigning Against Israel
2024-03-01
LONDON — Veteran left-wing political maverick George
Galloway, known for his heated anti-Israel rhetoric, won a vote to become the
new lawmaker for the English town of Rochdale on Friday, vowing to be a thorn
in the side for the opposition Labour Party before a national election it is
tipped to win.
After running a pro-Palestinian campaign, Galloway won
over many of Rochdale’s Muslim community by attacking both Labour and Britain’s
governing Conservatives for supporting Israel in its war against Hamas, making
a foreign conflict the major issue — unusual in a by-election when local
concerns usually dominate.
Elected to parliament for the seventh time, Galloway will
be an irritant to Labour, a party he once belonged to before being ejected for
criticising then-prime minister Tony Blair over the Iraq War. He even went so
far as saying the assassination of Blair would be “morally justified” for
Britain’s involvement.
His victory underlines the divisions in Britain over the
Israel-Hamas war, which is in its fifth month and has brought protesters onto
British streets in support of both sides, though pro-Palestinian demonstrations
against Israel have drawn far larger crowds.
The fighting in Gaza was triggered by the Hamas-led
October 7 onslaught, in which Palestinian terrorists killed some 1,200 people
and took 253 hostages. Israel declared war on Hamas in response, vowing to
topple the Gaza-ruling terror group and retrieve the hostages.
Since October 7, the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza
says over 30,000 Palestinians have been killed in the enclave, an unverified
figure that doesn’t differentiate between fighters and civilians, and is also
believed to include Gazans killed by the terror group’s errant rocket fire.
Israel says it has killed over 13,000 gunmen from Hamas and other terror groups
in Gaza since October 7.
British lawmakers have faced threats to do more to bring
an end to the fighting, leading the government to boost funding for their
security. The government has also allocated increased funds to protect Jewish
communities, after a recent report found thousands of antisemitic incidents
after October 7, making 2023 the worst year for UK antisemitism since the
records began in 1984.
With the national election later this year, Galloway’s return
to parliament will be short-lived but explosive. He has accused Labour leader
Keir Starmer of being in the “pocket of Israel.”
Galloway won 12,335 votes compared with 6,638 for
second-placed David Tully, an independent candidate. The former Labour candidate,
Azhar Ali, came fourth after the opposition party pulled its support from him
when he claimed Israel allowed the Hamas-led October 7 massacres.
The leader of right-wing Reform UK, Richard Tice, said
the campaign had been marred by intimidation and abuse of his party’s candidate
and campaigners, describing the vote as a “shameful contest … more
characteristic of a failed state.” His party’s candidate came sixth.
“[Labour leader] Keir Starmer: This is for Gaza,”
Galloway said in his victory speech. “You will pay a high price for the role
that you played in enabling, encouraging and covering for the catastrophe
presently going on in occupied Palestine.”
“Keir Starmer and Rishi Sunak are two cheeks of the same
backside and they both got well and truly spanked tonight here in Rochdale.”
Headache for Labour
Turnout was low at 39.7%.
It will be the first time Galloway’s left-wing Workers
Party of Britain has been represented in parliament.
For some in Rochdale, a former cotton mill town near
Manchester, the so-called by-election, triggered by the death of Labour
lawmaker Tony Lloyd last month, had failed to offer them a clear choice of
someone determined to help their town, ranked in the top 5 per cent of most
deprived English local authorities in 2019.
Galloway also campaigned to reinstate maternity services
in Rochdale but it was his message on Gaza that rang loudest.
He has vowed to speak out on Gaza in parliament,
challenging Labour, which initially gave full backing to Israel following the
October 7 attack. The party has since shifted its position to call for an
immediate humanitarian ceasefire.
It is a headache Starmer could do without. He has
struggled to maintain party unity over its position on Gaza. He avoided having
to put the divisions on show last week when his party was allowed to put
forward its stance on a ceasefire, following a shambolic debate in parliament.
Galloway, a colorful figure who became well known after
he impersonated a cat on a reality television show in 2006, will try to exploit
Labour’s divisions.
“I want to tell Mr Starmer above all, that the plates
have shifted tonight,” he said. “This is going to spark a movement, a
landslide, a shifting of the tectonic plates.”
The by-election also again drew focus to the issue of
antisemitism in Labour, which Starmer has made tackling a key mission since he
became its leader nearly four years ago.
The party, now on course to win a general election due
later this year, saw a spate of incidents under former far-left chief Jeremy
Corbyn.
A landmark October 2020 report by the Equality and Human
Rights Commission ruled that Labour under Corbyn had broken the law in its
“inexcusable” handling of complaints.

Belgium Repeats Call For Immediate Cease-Fire In Gaza
Where Death Toll Tops 30,000
Ahmet Gencturk
29.02.2024
Belgium on Thursday repeated its call for an immediate
cease-fire in Gaza, where the Palestinian death toll has exceeded 30,000.
“The tragedy in northern Gaza reinforces Belgium's call
for an immediate ceasefire!” the country’s Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib said
on X.
“Respect for international law is an absolute priority.
Civilians must be protected,” she added.
Earlier, at least 112 Palestinians were killed and 760
others injured when Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinians waiting for
humanitarian aid south of Gaza City, the Health Ministry in the enclave said.

UK Muslim Charities Facing Debanking Call For Right To
Appeal, Fair Policies
Aysu Biçer
29.02.2024
In the face of a persistent debanking crisis, Muslim
charities in the UK are intensifying calls for fair banking practices and
greater transparency in financial transactions.
Speaking to Anadolu, Abdulsami Arjumand, policy and
advocacy lead at the Muslim Charities Forum, highlighted the widespread nature
of debanking in the country, saying it has particularly plagued Muslim
charities for nearly two decades.
Among the detrimental effects of the practice are that it
diverts valuable resources away from humanitarian efforts towards operational
challenges, he said.
“Debanking prevents charities from fulfilling their
missions effectively,” Arjumand said, stressing that closure of accounts forces
organizations to allocate resources to other areas rather than directly trying
to help beneficiaries.
The repercussions extend beyond financial inconvenience,
impacting donor trust and relationships with local partners, he underlined,
adding that delays in payments and project deliveries result in critical aid
not reaching those in need on time.
Prominent examples in recent years include the Finsbury
Park Mosque in North London, which was plunged into crisis when HSBC abruptly
closed its account without explanation and blacklisted the mosque from seeking
banking services elsewhere.
Despite no evidence of wrongdoing or suspicious activity,
HSBC’s risk assessment algorithms falsely accused the mosque of having
connections to “terrorism,” leaving its leaders baffled and the community
outraged.
In a strikingly similar case, HSBC faced legal repercussions
after wrongly accusing a Muslim activist of terrorist connections without
evidence, leading to damages being awarded.
Additionally, Islamic Relief, a leading Muslim charity
dedicated to humanitarian aid, encountered debanking by HSBC, obstructing its vital
work assisting earthquake victims and refugees worldwide.
The Co-operative Bank also came under scrutiny for
unceremoniously shutting down accounts belonging to Friends of Al-Aqsa, the
Palestinian Solidarity Campaign, and 25 other pro-Palestinian groups in 2016.
In 2022, Cordoba Foundation, known for its efforts in
facilitating peaceful discourse and conflict resolution, was gearing up to host
a crucial forum in London aimed at addressing the escalating political unrest
in Tunisia.
However, their plans were abruptly derailed when their
bank accounts fell victim to debanking.
- ‘Muslim charities deserve right to appeal’
A report released by the Financial Conduct Authority in
September 2023 revealed that UK banks shuttered more than 343,000 accounts in 2022
without disclosing the reasons.
Arjumand underscored the need for political leaders to
advocate for improved banking standards and urged banks to engage more
equitably with charities.
He emphasized the importance of charities having
mechanisms to prevent external risks, while also calling for greater
accountability and stricter requirements for labeling Muslim charities as high
risk.
“A lot of charities, when they are debanked, often don’t
have the right to appeal or explain or give some form of a response. This is
one of the biggest things that we want,” he said.
“We want to see a change in this particular element with
regards to whether it be regulations, whether it be advice from government to
actually instruct banks to have that kind of better relationship with Muslim
charities who have been labeled as high risk without any form of justification,
without any form of accountability, without any way of responding to these
labels.”
After Brexit, the UK implemented amendments to its
banking regulations, bolstering measures against debanking.
The amended law grants banks authority to close accounts
under governmental directives aimed at combating issues such as corruption,
money laundering, political constraints, and terrorism.
Last year, in an open letter to Prime Minister Rishi
Sunak, Zara Mohammed, secretary general of the Muslim Council of Britain,
emphasized the significant impact of debanking on various Muslim-led charities
and prominent individuals within the community.
Mohammed urged Sunak to initiate a comprehensive review
of banking practices, citing concerns regarding the indiscriminate inclusion of
UK Muslims in the World-Check database without substantiated evidence of
criminal activity.
She highlighted the need for a more transparent and fair
approach to how individuals are flagged within such databases.

Russia's Lavrov Urges Palestinians To Reunite In Face Of
Tragedy In Gaza
Elena Teslova
29.02.2024
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Thursday called
on the different Palestinian factions to reunite in the face of the tragedy in
Gaza, where Israeli attacks have killed more than 30,000 people, and for
achieving the ultimate goal -- establishment of an independent Palestinian
state.
Speaking at a meeting with representatives of Palestinian
political forces in Moscow, Lavrov said the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is
because of the absence of a Palestinian state.
"Undoubtedly, the main priority is to stop the
bloodshed ... the recurrence of large-scale confrontation and outbreaks of
violence in the region will inevitably be repeated until, through joint
efforts, we can eliminate the underlying cause of this long-term conflict.
Namely, to solve the problem of creating a Palestinian state," he
stressed.
Lavrov quoted Jesus Christ, equally respected by
Christians and Muslims, saying: "A house divided by itself will not
stand."
The Russian foreign minister stressed that the future of
Palestine depends on whether Palestinian political forces will be able to put
the interests, goals and fate of the Palestinian people above the current
nuances and discrepancies in positions and approaches.
He said the absence of a united Palestinian political
force hindered the launch of talks with Israel because "skeptics argued
that it was impossible to negotiate when it was not known who was speaking on
behalf of the Palestinians."
"If you announce such a step – the restoration of
Palestinian unity on the platform of the Palestine Liberation Organization, it
will knock the trumps out of the hands of those forces that, referring to
internal problems in the Palestinian territories, used them to delay the Middle
East settlement process," he said.
The minister warned there are "forces" that are
using the tragedy in Gaza to sow more discord in the Palestinian ranks.
"I hope that our efforts to hold such
[intra-Palestinian] meetings and provide you with a platform for dialogue will
help you move in this direction [of unity]," he said.
Lavrov pointed out that while Palestinians continue
arguing between themselves, the situation is getting worse, and the Israeli
military operation in the West Bank of the Jordan River is becoming "no
less serious and brutal than in Gaza."
Commenting on the government reshuffle carried out by
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Lavrov said he hopes changes will
contribute to the intensification of the inter-Palestinian dialogue.
"We wish the Palestinians and Palestinian President
Mahmoud Abbas success in forming a new Cabinet. We hope that it will reflect
the tendency to overcome differences and consist of people representing the
interests of the entire Palestinian people, all its constituent parts," he
said. Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh announced the
resignation of his government earlier this week.
Representatives of Palestinian political forces have
gathered in the Russian capital Moscow, and consultations are expected to last
till Saturday.
Israel started its war on Gaza after the Oct. 7, 2023
cross-border incursion by Hamas. It has since killed more than 30,000
Palestinians and pushed the territory to the brink of famine.
Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, and Fatah, the
party that dominates the Palestinian Authority, which in part administers the
occupied West Bank, are the two largest Palestinian factions.
Some states have floated the idea of a technocratic
government for Palestinians, a step in efforts to make progress towards talks
on a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. But it is unclear
how things could move forward until Hamas and Fatah work out their long-running
differences.
It has also been suggested that the Palestinian Authority
govern Gaza after the war ends.

Palestinian Authority Receives $114 Million From Israel,
Norway Says
FEBRUARY 29, 2024
The Palestinian Authority has received 407 million
shekels ($114 million) from Israel, with more funds on the way in the coming
days following a deal to release frozen tax funds, the Norwegian government
said on Thursday.
Norway, on February 18, said it had agreed to assist in
the transfer of funds earmarked for the Palestinian Authority (PA) that were
collected by Israel, providing crucial funding to the Western-backed entity.
The apparent necessity of the money
"This money is absolutely necessary to prevent the
collapse of the Palestinian Authority, to ensure that the Palestinians receive
vital services and that teachers and health workers are paid," Norwegian
Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere said.
The PA exercises limited self-governance in the West
Bank.
Under interim peace accords reached in the 1990s,
Israel's finance ministry collects tax on behalf of the Palestinians and makes
monthly transfers to the PA.
But a dispute broke out over overpayments in the wake of
the October 7 attack on Israel by Hamas from Gaza, a territory ruled by the
Palestinian Islamist group.
Under the agreed solution, Norway serves as an
intermediary, holding tax revenue equal to the portion that Israel estimates
would have gone to Gaza, while the PA would receive the rest, the Nordic
country has said.

Afghan Minister: US Violated Doha Deal 1700 Times After
Signing
Naweed Samadi
March 1, 2024
The acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amir Khan
Muttaqi, in an interview with TOLOnews said that four years since the signing
of the Doha Agreement, the United States has violated the deal
"1,700" times.
In the special interview with TOLOnews, Amir Khan Muttaqi
revealed information about previously undisclosed annexes to the agreement,
which he said included practical concerns such as determining the time of the
evacuation of foreign forces from their outposts and the holding back of
operations by the Taliban on certain days to allow American forces to transport
troops and material to Bagram, for example.
“In the appendices, it was stated that the Mujahideen
should not operate in (certain places) because the Americans, for example, were
hiding in their places, and they were protected by local police forces and the
national army, or, for example, from Khost to Kabul, whenever there was a
clash, the opposite side (US) would tell the Taliban that our soldiers will go
to Kabul at seven o’clock tomorrow morning so that there will be no operations
along this route until 7 at night,” he said.
According to Muttaqi, the Islamic Emirate has been
committed to the agreement with the US, but the US has not been committed to
these agreements, he said.
“Fourteen months, we noted America's violations and its
bombing, they committed 1,700 violations. You estimate how much blood of
Afghans has been spilled and how many martyrs have been killed in seventeen
hundred violations,” Muttaqi said.
In the interview, the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs
said that the lack of a responsible government caused these intra-Afghan talks
to remain unsuccessful.
“We wanted the negotiations to conclude, the negotiations
lasted for a year, but no progress was seen. The reason is that the
administration of Kabul was not united, it did not have the authority,
secondly, those who were sent were the representatives of several princes, and
they did not have the competence and talent to advance the issue of Afghanistan
on such a large scale,” Amir Khan Muttaqi said.
The official of the Islamic Emirate also said that the
rejection of the caretaker government's proposal for a meaningful dialogue in
connection with the Afghanistan issue with all the countries' special
representatives in the second Doha meeting was one of the main reasons for
their non-attendance at the recent Doha meeting.
The acting Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized that
they will participate in the next meetings if the demands of the interim
government are accepted.]

Respect For Human Rights Key To Expanding Engagement With
Taliban: UN Special Rapporteur
Fidel Rahmati
March 1, 2024
The UN special rapporteur for Afghanistan on Thursday
emphasized prioritizing human rights, particularly women’s rights, in
engagement with the Taliban.
Richard Bennett painted a grim picture of human rights in
Afghanistan, criticizing widespread torture and discrimination against women
and minorities.
Presenting his six-month report at the 55th session of
the Human Rights Council, Bennett labeled the human rights situation in
Afghanistan as “dire.”
He stressed the importance of prioritizing the Afghan
people and ensuring their inclusion in decision-making processes.
Concerns are raised about countries normalizing relations
with the Taliban without significant improvements in Afghanistan’s humanitarian
situation.
Regarding women’s rights violations, he urged the world
to pursue legal avenues for gender, ethnic, and religious justice in
Afghanistan.
Bennett highlighted the Taliban’s systematic suppression
and expulsion of women and girls, constituting “crimes against humanity.”
Despite refraining from terming the situation as “gender
apartheid,” Bennett condemned the Taliban’s discriminatory actions against
Afghan women.
Bennett underscored the Taliban’s “systematic discrimination”
against Afghan women and girls in their quest for complete control.
The UN special rapporteur called for accountability from
the Taliban for their policies and actions, urging the world to find ways to
support Afghan women and girls promptly.
Suicide rates, depression, especially among youth, women,
and girls, and the imposition of Taliban-prescribed dress codes on women were
among the concerns Bennett addressed.
His report shed light on the increased pressure on ethnic
and religious minorities in Afghanistan, particularly the Hazara community, due
to targeted ISIS attacks.

Prince Harry Raises Security Concerns After Al-Qaeda
Threats for Killing 25 in Afghanistan
Khaama Press
February 29, 2024
In a striking development that has garnered attention
worldwide, Prince Harry has been embroiled in controversy and legal battles
over security concerns, as reported by the British online news outlet, The Sun.
This controversy stems from his candid revelations in his memoir, “Spare,”
where he disclosed having killed 25 Taliban fighters during his service with
the British Army in Afghanistan. These admissions have not only ignited a
debate on the ethics and implications of such disclosures but have also led to
heightened security threats against him, including threats from Al Qaeda.
Prince Harry’s request for government-funded UK security
was recently denied, a decision he plans to appeal, according to The Sun. This
denial marks a significant moment, raising questions about the responsibilities
of governments towards their serving and former military personnel, especially
those who have served in conflict zones and are at heightened risk due to their
public profile and disclosures.
The heart of Harry’s legal battle lies in his claim that,
following his departure as a working senior royal and his subsequent loss of
taxpayer-funded security, he and his family are at greater risk. This claim is
juxtaposed against the backdrop of his high-profile status, his military
service, and the specific threats he has received, notably from terrorist
organizations like Al Qaeda.
The court’s recent decision underscores a legal and
ethical quandary: the balancing act between public accountability for security
funding and the unique risks faced by individuals like Prince Harry, who have
served in military capacities and later disclosed their actions. The ruling
suggests that the court found no unlawfulness in the decision to remove his
security, a verdict that has broader implications for how security is allocated
to public figures, especially those with nuanced and complex threat profiles.
Critics and supporters alike have weighed in on the
matter. Some argue that Harry’s public disclosure of his military kills was
unnecessary and has placed him and others at increased risk. Others defend his
transparency, suggesting it’s part of a larger conversation about the realities
of military engagement and the enduring impacts on those who serve.
The backlash from Taliban officials, who have vehemently
condemned Harry’s actions and words, reflects the deep wounds and ongoing
strife within Afghanistan. It also highlights the global dimension of this
controversy, which transcends the personal story of Prince Harry and touches on
issues of military ethics, the consequences of war, and the international
community’s response to such disclosures.
As Prince Harry seeks to appeal the decision, the debate
continues about the intersection of personal security, public funding, and the
responsibilities of nations to their military personnel, particularly those who
have served in high-profile or controversial roles. This situation raises
critical questions about the balance between security and transparency, the
ethical obligations of military service members when sharing their experiences,
and the role of governments in ensuring the safety of their citizens and
veterans in an increasingly complex and dangerous world.
This case not only sheds light on Prince Harry’s personal
struggle for security and safety but also prompts a broader discussion on the
nature of modern warfare, the stories of those who fight on the front lines,
and how these stories are shared and received by the public and the
international community. As this legal battle unfolds, it will likely continue to
spark debate and reflection on these pressing issues, as highlighted by The
Sun’s comprehensive coverage of this unfolding story.

UN Team In Bangladesh Following Yunus's Case 'Very
Closely': UN Chief's Spokesperson
Feb 29, 2024
The UN team in Bangladesh is very closely observing the
developments regarding the case of Nobel Laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus, said a
UN spokesman.
"Our country team in Bangladesh continues to follow
that case very closely," said Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN
Secretary-General, at a briefing on Wednesday.
He said Professor Yunus is a dear friend of the United
Nations throughout his career, and his work has been critical to the
development work they do today.
On January 1, the Third Labour Court of Dhaka sentenced
Muhammad Yunus and three other top officials of Grameen Telecom to six months
in jail in a case filed by the government over labour law violations.
Yunus is the chairman of Grameen Telecom, while the three
others are its directors Ashraful Hassan, Nurjahan Begum and M Shahjahan.
Soon after the verdict, the same court granted bail to
all four for a month, following separate bail pleas.
Prof Muhammad Yunus alleged that he and his colleagues
are living in fear because of the "unlawful" takeover of offices at
the Grameen Telecom Bhaban by a group of outsiders on February 12.
A group of people, claiming to be affiliated with Grameen
Bank, barged into the Grameen Telecom Bhaban, and said the current board of
Grameen Bank appointed seven directors, including the chairman, for Grameen
Kalyan and Grameen Telecom, two social business ventures established by Yunus.
Stephane was also asked if the UN will call for the
release of the thousands of opposition party members arrested ahead of the
national elections on January 7.
The spokesman said the UN has been very consistent and
continues to call for the release of all those who may have been detained from
merely expressing themselves peacefully.

Bangladesh Govt To Ensure Violence-Free Society For
Children: Law Minister
Feb 29, 2024
Law Minister Anisul Huq today said there is still a long
way to go before a society free from violence, exploitation and torture can be
established for children.
"The current government wants to upgrade the justice
system for children to an international standard. For this reason, the law
ministry has taken various measures," he added.
The minister was speaking at an event organised on the
occasion of inaugurating refurbished Child-Sensitive Courtrooms under the
"Strengthening Capacity of Judicial System for Child Protection in
Bangladesh (SCJSCPB) Project".
It was held at Judicial Administration Training Institute
in the capital.
The project was implemented by the ministry and UNICEF
Bangladesh.
Under this project, 10 courtrooms in nine districts have
been refurbished.
The minister also said they have incorporated effective
rules in the Children Act.
Adequate logistics support, separate courtrooms,
congenial environment and trained manpower are needed to ensure the effective
enforcement of this law. Simultaneously, relevant knowledge and competence of
all concerned are vital, he noted.
Huq said his ministry has been working to enhance the
capacity of the training institutions to execute relevant laws related to child
rights and set up separate courts for children.

Lecturing About Democracy Doesn't Suit Fakhrul, Says
Awami League GS
Feb 29, 2024
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said
BNP is active in implementing a master plan to destroy the country
He also said the party has no faith in the country's
democracy and elections.
"Seizing the state power unconstitutionally and
illegally, military dictator Ziaur Rahman formed BNP in an army camp," he
said in a statement.
Since its inception, the AL general secretary said BNP
has been doing politics by blocking the democratic rights of the country's
people.
So, lecturing about democracy and good governance does
not suit BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, he said.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister,
said that talking about the safety of people's lives and properties does not
match Fakhrul, who, he claimed, is a master of terrorist politics and a sponsor
of militancy and extremism.
He said the BNP indiscriminately killed opposition
political leaders and activists in the gruesome grenade attacks on August 21,
2004, sponsored militant groups to carry out serial bomb attacks across the
country on August 17, 2005, and imported 10-truck arms and burned innocent
people alive.
Quader said the allegations of indiscriminate arrest and
harassment by the law-enforcing agencies are baseless.
The arrest of terrorists and cadres of BNP, a terrorist
organisation recognised by an international court, cannot be termed as
harassment in any way, he said.
The minister said bringing terrorists to justice is the
responsibility of law enforcement agencies.
It is recognised and proved worldwide today that
Bangladesh has set an exemplary example in preventing terrorism and militancy
under the courageous leadership of the successful statesman, Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina, he said.
The people of the country are living more comfortably than
ever before, Quader said, vowing "We will work for the peace, security and
prosperity of the people at any cost."

US Reportedly Prevents UN Security Council Reaction To
Gaza Aid Attack
Mucahit Oktay
01.03.2024
The US reportedly blocked a reaction from the UN Security
Council regarding the Israeli military's attack on a humanitarian aid convoy in
Gaza, resulting in the deaths of at least 112 Palestinians and injuring 760
others.
During a Security Council meeting at the UN headquarters
in New York, member states discussed issuing a statement in response to the
attack on the humanitarian aid convoy in Gaza City.
Following the closed-door session, no statement was
released.
According to information obtained by Anadolu, a draft
resolution containing critical remarks against Israel failed to gain approval
from the US Permanent Mission to the UN.
The draft resolution expressed deep concern over reports
that 112 people lost their lives and 760 were injured as a result of Israeli
forces opening fire on a crowd awaiting food aid in southwestern Gaza.
The resolution called on all parties to refrain from
depriving civilians in the Gaza Strip of essential services and humanitarian
aid, under international humanitarian law, warning of a potential acute food
crisis affecting the entire population of 2.2 million people in Gaza if urgent action
is not taken.
Council members urged Israel to keep border crossings
open to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza and ease the opening
of additional crossings to meet humanitarian needs on a broader scale.
Earlier Thursday, Israeli forces fired on a crowd of
Palestinians waiting for humanitarian aid at the Al Nabulsi roundabout on Al
Rashid Street, a major coastal road to the west of Gaza City in northern Gaza,
leaving at least 112 Palestinians dead and 760 injured, according to the Gaza-based
Health Ministry.
Israel has launched a deadly military offensive on the
Gaza Strip since an Oct. 7 attack by the Palestinian group Hamas, which Tel
Aviv says killed nearly 1,200 people.
At least 30,035 Palestinians have since been killed and
70,457 others injured amid mass destruction and shortages of necessities.
Israel has also imposed a crippling blockade on the Gaza
Strip, leaving its population, particularly residents of northern Gaza, on the
verge of starvation.
The Israeli war has pushed 85% of Gaza’s population into
internal displacement amid acute shortages of food, clean water, and medicine,
while 60% of the enclave's infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed,
according to the UN.
Israel stands accused of genocide at the International
Court of Justice. An interim ruling in January ordered Tel Aviv to stop
genocidal acts and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is
provided to civilians in Gaza.

Pentagon Says 'Civilians Must Be Protected' After Israeli
Attack On Palestinians Seeking Aid
Michael Hernandez
01.03.2024
The Pentagon urged Israel Thursday to protect civilians
during its ongoing operations in Gaza after over 100 malnourished people were
killed while waiting for humanitarian aid.
Pentagon spokesperson Maj. Gen. Patrick Ryder said the
reports emerging from Gaza are "alarming," adding that the
"situation highlights the tragic nature of this conflict."
"We're, of course, very saddened to hear about this
loss of innocent lives. And we do acknowledge, as I just said a moment ago,
that too many civilians have been killed in Israel's military operations, and
we continue to reiterate that civilian lives must be protected," he said.
"This situation also does underscore the critical
importance of ensuring that much needed humanitarian assistance. can be
delivered to the people of Gaza in a safe, secure and sustained manner,"
added Ryder.
Thursday's attack occurred at dawn as hundreds of
Palestinians were waiting to receive desperately-needed humanitarian aid near
the al-Nablusi roundabout area, south of Gaza City, when they came under
Israeli fire, according to eyewitnesses. Gaza's Health Ministry said at least
112 Palestinians were killed and 760 others injured.
The Israeli military said an initial investigation found
that the Palestinians had approached a military checkpoint overseeing the entry
of the aid trucks and that soldiers had fired warning shots at their legs as
they continued to advance towards the troops.
Israel has launched a deadly military offensive on the
Gaza Strip since an Oct. 7 Hamas attack, which Tel Aviv said killed about 1,200
people.
At least 30,035 Palestinians have since been killed and
more than 70,457 others injured amid mass destruction and shortages of
necessities.

Pentagon: Austin Cites Hamas Casualty Numbers, But
Doesn't Stand By Them
YONAH JEREMY BOB
FEBRUARY 29, 2024
Despite citing Hamas's casualty numbers at a
congressional hearing on Thursday, the Pentagon clarified to the Jerusalem Post
that US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin does not stand by those numbers per se.
During the hearing, Austin said that more than 25,000
women and children had been killed by Israel since October 7, adding that
Israel can and should do more to protect civilians.
More specifically, at the congressional hearing, Austin
was asked how many Palestinian women and children had been killed by Israel,
and Austin replied: "It is over 25,000."
In contrast, Israel has said that it has killed around
11,000-13,000 Hamas forces and that additional Palestinian civilians have been
killed by 10-15% rocket misfires by Hamas. Presuming the 30,000 dead
Palestinians number provided by Hamas's Health Ministry is correct, this would
mean that the number of killed Palestinian civilians could likely be between
15,000-18,000, a good bit lower than 25,000.
Hamas has said the IDF has only killed 6,000 of its
forces. For Austin to say the IDF has killed 25,000 civilians would then have
seemed to suggest he was accepting Hamas's numbers over Israel's.
Asked to clarify the situation, Deputy Press Secretary
Sabrina Singh responded to the Post, "During the hearing today, Secretary
Austin was asked how many women and children have died in Gaza. To clarify, the
Secretary’s answer was citing an estimate from the Hamas-controlled health
ministry that more than 25,000 total Palestinians have been killed in Gaza. We
cannot independently verify these Gaza casualty figures.”
The Pentagon did not clarify which casualty figure they
work with
The Post followed up by asking why Austin chose to cite
only the Hamas numbers and not both the Hamas and IDF numbers.
The Pentagon had not responded to that question at press
time.
Generally speaking, Austin has been one of the largest
supporters of Israel within the Biden administration, but tensions between the
sides have elevated lately as the Palestinian death toll has continued to spike
and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has avoided committing to plans for
handing over Gaza to a third party acceptable to the US, the West, and Israel's
Arab allies.

Poll: Majority Of Dems Favour A US President Against
Military Aid To Israel
29 February 2024
Latest polls show a majority of Democrats prefer a
presidential candidate who does not back the unqualified US military assistance
to Israel.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll showed 56% of Democrats said they
were less likely to support a candidate who backs such an aid.
Democrats also overwhelmingly said they wanted a
presidential candidate who would call for a ceasefire in Gaza.
22 percent of Democrats in the poll blamed Israel for the
killings in Gaza.
The poll results illustrate a potentially critical
vulnerability for President Joe Biden, who has angered some within his party by
supporting Israel.
Biden’s early and vocal support of Israel and his refusal
to condition military aid on a change in Israel’s military tactics has sparked
outrage among the Democrats.
The Biden administration has repeatedly sent munitions to
Israel after promising “unwavering” support to Israel in the wake of the
hostilities in Gaza in early October.
Washington has said it was still not drawing any red
lines for Israel.
The Gaza death toll keeps going up. Famine looms. Much of
the besieged Palestinian territory’s 2.3 million population has become
homeless. And Israel has killed nearly 30,000 people there since.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll results come ahead of a close
November election.
Biden has said an attack on the Palestinians waiting for
aid in northern Gaza will complicate efforts to reach a ceasefire. “I know it
will,” Biden told reporters when asked about the matter.
The president said a pause in the fighting would probably
not come by next Monday. Biden had predicted so in remarks earlier this week.
Elsewhere, Biden said there are “two competing versions
of what happened” during the attack and that the US was “checking” what had
happened.
Witnesses have said the incident began when Israeli
forces opened fire on a crowd that was waiting for food.
At least 112 Palestinians waiting for food aid were
killed and 760 wounded after being shot at by Israeli forces.
Israel is using starvation as a weapon against the
Palestinians in Gaza.

Aaron Bushnell's Death 'Not In Vain' As He Spotlighted
Genocide In Palestine, Friend Says
01 March 2024
A friend of Aaron Bushnell, the American soldier who set
himself on fire in protest at Israel’s war on Gaza, says the self-immolated
soldier did not die in vain as he brought the Israeli-American genocide in
Palestine into the spotlight.
Speaking with Democracy Now, an independent American news
program, Levi Pierpont said his views on wars and those of his friend evolved
due to their military experiences.
“Over the years, both of us shifted, of course, in our
beliefs regarding war, largely because of what we saw in the military, largely
because of the things that we learned because we were a part of it,” Pierpont
said on Wednesday.
"I want people to remember that his death is not in
vain, that he died to spotlight this message," he added.
He noted that he would have stopped Aaron from carrying
out the self-immolation if he had known his intention, "But seeing the way
that the media responds now, now that this has happened, it’s hard not to feel
like he was right, that this was exactly what was necessary to get people’s
attention about the genocide that’s happening in Palestine."
Pierpont noted that he personally conscientiously
objected and left the military last July and Bushnell also considered leaving
back then, but decided not to follow the same path.
According to Pierpont’s remarks, the two found
inspiration from social media content creators advocating for social justice
movements in the US.
Pierpont expressed his deep sorrow over the death of
Bushnell whom he met in Air Force basic training, saying he shed tears after
learning the news about his friend setting himself on fire outside the embassy
of the Israeli regime.
In a video, which was live-streamed on the social media
platform Twitch on Sunday but was later removed, Bushnell, an active-duty member
of the US Air Force, said “I will no longer be complicit in genocide.”
He was yelling “Free Palestine!” repeatedly, as he was
going up in flames after setting himself on fire.
Protests against Israel have become a near-daily
occurrence across the United States since the regime launched its bloody
campaign in Gaza in early October.
Israel launched the war on Gaza on October 7 after the
Palestinian resistance movement Hamas waged the surprise Operation Al-Aqsa
Storm against the occupying entity in response to the Israeli regime's
decades-long campaign of bloodletting and devastation against Palestinians.
Since the start of the offensive, the Tel Aviv regime has
killed 30,035 Palestinians and injured 70,457 others.

Colombia Suspends Israel Arms Purchases After Gaza Aid
Convoy Deaths
01 Mar 2024
BOGOTÁ, March 1 — Accusing Israel of “genocide” in Gaza,
Colombia’s leftist President Gustavo Petro yesterday suspended Israeli weapons
purchases after dozens of people died in a scramble for food aid in the
war-torn Palestinian territory.
Israel is one of the main providers of weapons to the
South American country’s security forces, which are engaged in a decades-long
conflict with leftist guerrillas, right-wing paramilitaries and drug cartels.
Petro made his announcement Thursday after Israeli forces
opened fire on Palestinians scrambling for food aid in a chaotic melee that the
health ministry in the Hamas-run territory said killed more than 100 people.
Scores were injured.
An Israeli source acknowledged troops had opened fire on
the crowd, believing it “posed a threat.”
“Asking for food, more than 100 Palestinians were killed
by (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu. This is called genocide and
recalls the Holocaust,” Petro wrote on X.
“The world must block Netanyahu. Colombia is suspending
all arms purchases from Israel.”
Colombia’s military and police have for decades used
rifles, pistols and missiles from Israel.
Its air force owns about 20 Kfir combat aircraft, and the
country has the rights to manufacture Galil automatic rifles and Spike missiles
under Israeli patent.
Petro, a critic of Israel’s campaign in Gaza, has argued
vehemently with the ambassador of that country in Bogota, Gali Dagan.
In October, just days after the start of the war, Israel
said it was “halting security exports” to Colombia after Petro accused Israeli
Defence Minister Yoav Gallant of using language about the people of Gaza
similar to what the “Nazis said of the Jews.”
Colombia’s first leftist president has also asserted that
“democratic peoples cannot allow Nazism to reestablish itself in international
politics.”
Thursday’s incident added to a Palestinian death toll
which the Gaza health ministry said had topped 30,000, mainly women and
children. — AFP

Biden Campaign Official Says 'Uncommitted' Michigan
Voters Should Remember That Trump 'Wants To Have A Muslim Ban'
Bryan Metzger
Mar 1, 2024
President Joe Biden's has a problem in Michigan, and it
remains unclear if his campaign knows how to address it.
On Tuesday, over 100,000 Democrats marked their ballots
as "uncommitted" rather than vote for Biden in the presidential
primary, accounting for just over 13% of the vote.
Many — though not all — of those voters are Arab
Americans and Muslim Americans who live in the southeastern part of the state,
particularly in and around the city of Dearborn. Some have even had family
members in recent months amid Israel's war in Gaza.
The "Listen to Michigan" campaign, backed by
Rep. Rashida Tlaib and managed by her younger sister, had urged Democrats in
the state to vote "uncommitted" to push the Biden administration
towards implementing a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and ceasing military support
for Israel.
In an NPR interview released Thursday, Mitch Landrieu —
the former mayor of New Orleans and the national co-chair of Biden's reelection
campaign — suggests that those voters needed to be made more aware of former
President Donald Trump's agenda, including the so-called "Muslim ban"
that he enacted early in his presidency.
"We're going to continue to talk to them and then
ask them to think about the choices and what the consequences are about electing
somebody who wants to have a Muslim ban, electing somebody who is going to be
much, much worse than the difficult circumstances that we have right now,"
said Landrieu.
The former New Orleans mayor also noted that Biden
campaign and administration officials have met with community leaders in
Michigan in recent weeks, and that Israel's ongoing bombardment of Gaza is a
"very difficult issue."
In response, Listen to Michigan campaign manager Layla
Elabed fired back.
"It's deeply offensive that President Biden keeps
suggesting he has a messaging issue among Arab Americans and young people
rather than a funding bombs issue," said Elabed. "Biden's re-election
chances will be judged by how much of Gaza is left standing by November."
The campaign followed that up with a tweet accusing Biden
of using Trump as a "human shield."
Please stop using Donald Trump as your human shield,
@JoeBiden.
We understand the threat of Donald Trump against our
communities more than anyone.
We don’t understand your weapons funding for Israel’s war
in Gaza and occupation against the Palestinian people.
The Listen to Michigan campaign has been explicit about
its intnetions to leverage votes in the crucial battleground state: Trump won
Michigan by roughly 10,700 votes in 2016, far less than the 100,000 who voted
"uncommitted" on Tuesday.
And they've made clear that they're not interested in a
"lesser of two evils" argument.
"President Biden himself, by failing to call for a
ceasefire, is on track to deliver the presidency back to Donald Trump and his
white supremacist buddies," said Abbas Alawieh, a spokesperson for Listen
to Michigan, in a call with reporters earlier this month.

Ansarullah Condemns Occupation’s Crime Against Gazans At
Nabulsi Roundabout
[01/March/2024]
SANA'A March 01. 2024 (Saba) - The Political Bureau of
Ansarullah condemned on Friday the crime of genocide committed by the Zionist
entity at Nabulsi roundabout in the Gaza Strip, which claimed the lives of more
than 100 martyrs and 700 wounded during the distribution of aid.
The Political Bureau indicated in a statement that this
brutal crime is an additional witness to the level of brutality, hatred and
criminality that the Zionist entity has reached, and is part of the series of
brutal targeting and genocidal operations that it is carrying out against the
Palestinian people in Gaza.
The statement stated that the Zionist entity committed
thousands of massacres that represent a disgrace to humanity, and are rightly
considered a disgrace to the international community and international
organizations that uphold international law and human rights.
These massacres are considered a resounding betrayal and
moral collapse of the Arab and Islamic regimes that failed to support the
Palestinian people, explaining that this brutal crime comes as a continuation
of killing and genocide, and whoever does not become a martyr will fall as a
result of hunger and cold and also as a result of the siege.
The statement held the United States of America fully
morally and legally responsible for the ongoing crimes of the Zionist entity
against the Palestinian people, as it provides the enemy protection, military,
political, media and logistical support, the latest of which is the use of its
veto in the UN Security Council against stopping the war in Gaza, which gives
evidence of political cover for the Zionist crime.
It called on the peoples of the Arab and Islamic nation
and the free people of the world to bear religious, moral and humanitarian
responsibility towards the brothers in Gaza, take practical measures and take
effective steps that oblige the Israeli enemy to stop its crimes and violations
and lift the siege on the Palestinian people.

Saudi Arabia Leads Arab Condemnation Of Targeting Of
Civilians In Northern Gaza
February 29, 2024
RIYADH: Saudi Arabia strongly condemned and denounced the
targeting of defenseless civilians in the northern Gaza Strip, the Kingdom’s
foreign ministry said on Thursday.
Israeli troops fired on a large crowd of Palestinians
racing to pull food off an aid convoy in Gaza City on Thursday, witnesses said.
More than 100 people were killed in the chaos, bringing
the death toll since the start of the Israel-Hamas war to more than 30,000,
according to health officials.
The ministry affirmed the Kingdom’s categorical rejection
of international humanitarian law violations by any party and under any
pretext.
The Kingdom renewed its call on the international
community to take a firm stance by making Israel respect international
humanitarian law, immediately open safe humanitarian corridors, allow the
evacuation of the injured, and enable the delivery of relief aid and medical
equipment without restrictions to mitigate the humanitarian catastrophe and
prevent an escalation of it.
The Kingdom also repeated its call for an immediate
ceasefire to prevent further innocent civilian casualties.
The UAE on Thursday also strongly condemned the military
targeting thousands of Palestinians in Gaza Strip who were awaiting the arrival
of humanitarian aid and called for an independent and transparent investigation
into the incident, while demanding accountability for those responsible,
Emirates News Agency reported.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed
its “deep concern about the escalating humanitarian catastrophe” in the Gaza
Strip, which threatened to claim more innocent civilian lives.
It also emphasized that the immediate priority was to
halt the escalation of military operations and establish an immediate
ceasefire.
The ministry reiterated the UAE's position, which calls
for the protection of innocent civilians and the facilitation of immediate,
safe, long-term, and unhindered delivery of relief and humanitarian aid.
It also emphasized the importance of preventing a
regional spillover, which could lead to further violence, tension, and
instability.
The ministry urged the international community to support
all efforts to achieve a comprehensive and just peace based on a two-state
solution that included an independent Palestinian state.
Kuwait also denounced Israel’s actions, labeling them a
“war crime”, Kuwait News Agency reported.
The country’s foreign ministry reiterated Kuwait's call
for an immediate ceasefire and unimpeded access to humanitarian aid in the
Strip as well as its unequivocal rejection of Israel's systematic targeting of
innocent civilians.
The ministry also urged the international community, and
the UN Security Council, to provide protection to the Palestinian people as
well as humanitarian workers operating in the Palestinian territories.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the
deadly incident, and United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric said the events
“need to be investigated.”

Al-Mashat, Chairman of the Supreme Political Council, met on Thursday in the
capital Sana'a with the leadership of the local authority in Ibb Governorate,
dignitaries, sheikhs and social figures from the governorate.

Gaza Strip," he said.
President Al-Mashat pointed out that the culture of faith
of the Yemeni people, led by the people of Ibb governorate, derived from the
Holy Quran, is the safety valve that shattered all the conspiracies of the
enemy, and the Yemeni people and their positions of faith in support of the
oppressed Palestinian people in Gaza have become a model to be followed by the
Arab and Islamic peoples and all the free people of the world.
He added, "In this reality, in which the facts
became more clear, and in light of the criminal Zionist aggression with the
participation of America and the Western countries, the voice of this great

evil trio: We will not retreat from our support for the oppressed Palestinian
people until the Zionist criminal aggression on Gaza stops, the siege is
lifted, and medicine and food enter it."

students to join them because of their importance in building and immunizing
generations, as well as paying attention to charity, social solidarity,

prisoners, missing persons and Almoravids.
President Al-Mashat called on citizens to cooperate with
the security side in resolving issues, maintaining security, unity of ranks and
the home front, preserving the social fabric, good tribal customs, virtuous
values and morals, and beware of the plans of enemies that aim to stir up
strife and problems among the people of the province and not to be affected by
their lies and media mouthpieces.

Saudi Arabia Strongly Condemns Targeting Unarmed
Civilians In Northern Gaza
February 29, 2024
MADINAH — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Saudi
Arabia's strong condemnation and denunciation of the targeting of defenseless

The ministry affirmed the Kingdom’s categorical rejection
of violations of international humanitarian law by any party and under any

Surprises Of Yemeni Deterrence Of US, UK Continues Upon
Wisdom Of Political Leadership, Mandate Of Yemeni People: Report
[01/March/2024]
SANA'A March 01. 2024 (Saba) - Yemeni positions have
continue to support the Palestinian people, their resistance and their just
cause, which will remain the nation’s central and first issue, especially after
“Al-Aqsa Flood” operation broke the Zionist orgy in the region and defeated the
so-called invincible army.
The Zionist crime supported by America and Europe
exceeded and violated all perceptions and the genocide of the enemy entity and
its gangs and became a terrible and dangerous title in the region.
The Nazi enemy's crime on Thursday morning when it hit a
gathering of starving Gazans who have been besieged for five months as the
occupation hindered aid trucks in the northern Gaza Strip becomes a trap to
commit a new massacre against civilians.
About 950 victims were killed or wounded, in addition to
thousands of Zionist massacres that taken place in the enclave day and night.
The war of starvation pursued by the Zionist enemy, with
the support of America and Britain and in collusion with the treacherous Arab
and Islamic regimes, is one of the means of pressuring the Palestinian
resistance to make more concessions in order to release the prisoners of the
enemy entity, who face great pressure directly from their families who
demonstrate daily in the occupied cities to demand the resignation of the
criminal Netanyahu and the holding of early elections.
But it seems that the world has taken the slogan “I do
not see, I do not hear, I do not speak” as a means of identifying with the war
of genocide practiced by the Zionist entity in Gaza and the occupied
territories, and in light of the presence of submissive rulers and regimes that
have turned to America and Europe and have become accustomed to the Zionist
entity, it has been established for it. Other calculations, in exchange for the
Palestinian blood that is shed daily by the hundreds in full view of the deaf
and mute world, have accepted themselves and their peoples’ dependence and
dependence on the forces of hegemony and arrogance.
The Yemeni people, amidst the rubble of war over nine
years and the aggression launched by the American-Saudi-Emirati coalition, rose
with all their living forces and mobilized their abilities and capabilities and
harnessed them in the service of the Palestinian people and their oppression,
based on their religious, humanitarian and moral duty, and their conscience and
chivalry in supporting the oppressed and standing by the oppressed.
In light of the wisdom and action of the man of words and
deeds, the leader of the nation, Sayyed Abdulmalik Badr al-Din al-Houthi who
taken the the authorization by the Yemeni people to enter the battle of
“al-Aqsa Flood,” he gained the honor of being ahead of the countries of the
Arab and Islamic world with all courage and confidence to support Palestine,
champion its cause, support its resistance, and discipline the forces of
hegemony and arrogance led by America, Britain and the Zionist entity
occupation.
Yemen's support for the Palestinian cause constituted a
difficult and important number in the international equation, as evidenced by
the scramble of arrogant forces led by the Great Satan "America" on
the Red Sea and the Arab, in an attempt to dissuade Yemen from its position in
support of Palestine and its resistance, but it failed, then Washington and
London resorted to launching aggression against Yemen with flimsy excuses.
Five months after "Al-Aqsa Flood" operation,
the leader of the revolution, Sayyed Abdulmalik Badr al-Din al-Houthi,
threatened America and Britain with effective and influential surprises that
the enemies did not expect at al, in a message to both Washington and London
that what is coming will be more painful than before if they continue to
support and aid the Zionist entity occupation in its war on Gaza or launched
its aggression against Yemen.
Sayyed Abdulmalik al-Houthi said in a speech on Thursday regarding
the latest developments “We have, God Almighty willing, surprises that the
enemies do not expect at all, and they will be very surprising to the enemies
and beyond what the enemy and friend expect. Surprises that will come in an
effective and influential way. We do not want to talk about them, because we
want them to begin already.” Then we follow it with words.”
He reminded that everyone is tired of America's
aggressive actions and that Washington must obey the voice of reason and
humanity, pointing out that American and British ships received painful and
devastating strikes, and that America, with its aggression against Yemen in
support of the Israeli enemy, implicated itself in the framework of targeting.
Decisive hours are being experienced in the region, in
which new trends are being formed thanks to the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation,
which was carried out by the Palestinian resistance on October 7, 2023 against
the Zionist enemy entity. These are unorganized trends without an ideological
template that bring together political contradictions around basics that shape
the future of the region and the world.
