Pakistani actress Veena Malik slams Islamic cleric for criticism

PTI, Jan 24, 2011

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani actress Veena Malik has mounted a fiery defence of her appearance in the controversial reality show 'Bigg Boss', taking on clerics who had criticized her.

Malik took Mufti Abdul Kawi to task for calling her "baigharat" (immoral) on a talk show on television and said if she were in the wrong, so was he because Islam doesn't permit a man to cast a second look at a woman who isn't his relative. "One can be punished for looking at a woman a second time, you should be punished," Malik, clad in a black sleeveless dress, told the Mufti on Express News' Frontline show.

"What is your problem with me? You tell me your problem!" an angry Veena Malik asked the Muslim scholar, who accused her of insulting Islam.

Malik's outspoken defence of herself received widespread support from Pakistani liberals and civil society activists on social networking websites like Twitter, which were flooded with messages praising her and quotes of her witty repartee with the Mufti.

Malik refused to apologize for her behaviour, saying the show was not aimed at promoting the culture of any country. "It isn't a religious show either. The format of the show is to get people from various walks of life under one roof... I was contacted for my bravery," she said.

Malik snubbed critics who claimed she was dressed scantily, saying , "I wore only clothes that I have worn in Pakistan before. I was representing myself... and I am like this only."

Veena Malik breaks down on Pak national television

Press Trust of India

Sunday, January 23, 2011 (Karachi)

Pakistani actress and model, Veena Malik broke down on national television when the host of a TV show, cleric Maulana Qavi grilled and castigated her for her behaviour on the Indian reality show, Bigg Boss 4.

The 32-year-old actress who earlier had a much publicised break-up with Pakistani cricketer Mohammed Asif, lashed out at her critics and clerics for degrading her, while appearing on a show on 'Express' channel.

Since returning from India, Malik has been constantly under fire for allegedly misrepresenting Pakistani women, Islam and Pakistani culture on the show.

"You tell me is you conscience clear that you didn't bring a bad name to Pakistan and Islam and that you behaved inappropriate to our religious and cultural values," Maulana Qavi asked her on the show.

Veena had raised a furore in the orthodox and religious circles with her displays of affection with Indian actor, Ashmit Patel, her way of dressing and language on the show.

"I am just an entertainer and I was not representing anyone on the show but myself. Why is everyone after me just because I am a woman and a soft target," said a defiant Malik.

"Why doesn't anyone talk about the Pakistani actresses or actors who have gone and accepted B and C grade roles in India. Some have kissed on screen and worn bikinis. Tell me did I wear a bikini on the show, did I kiss, did I undress, whatever I did was part of the tasks on the show," added Malik while defending herself.

Malik later tried to shift the focus to other things happening in Pakistan.

"Maulvis sexually assault children in madrassahs under their care. People are burnt alive in Pakistan. Corruption is rampant. Women are gang-raped and there is extremism everywhere and yet no one talks about these evils but everyone is concerned about me what Veena Malik did," she said.

Malik broke down when the host of the show called her "Begairat" (shameless) and she shot back at him.

"Who are you pass such indecent remarks about me who gave you this right," she questioned.

The criticism on Malik comes at a time when the country is facing a clear divide over the blasphemy law and religious fundamentalism appears to be spreading and where the liberals and moderates are afraid to express their views.

However, during the exchange, Maulana Qavi admitted he had not seen the clips of the show but had heard about it from others.

"What does your Islam say, mufti sir?" Veena asked. "You issue edicts on the basis of hearsay."

The actress has made it clear that she had read the Quran and knew her limits as a Muslim and also as an entertainer in South Asia.

Sources close to Veena said she had received threatening phone calls since returning from India and was trying to keep a low profile these days.

Wardrobe malfunction. Veena Malik nude in Bigg Boss?

Pakistani wannabe and starlet Veena Malik definitely knows how to stay in the news. She has mastered the art of hitting the headlines and can definitely be called Pakistan's version of our very own Rakhi Sawant.

We had already told you how we have our top-secret source right inside the Bigg Boss house. Someone who has direct access to the unedited, uncensored feed from all the cameras in the house 24×7.

Someone who sees the feed, before it hits the FCP editing machines. Before it's cropped and censored and trimmed. Someone who sees what even Bigg Boss himself doesn't. Well don't believe us, then continue to read on.

Yesterday we told you about how Veena Malik was caught in a compromising position 'almost in a sexual act' with one of the male inmates. The two were in a dark spot in the house, where the cameras couldn't reach. They probably felt there was nobody watching them and got real cozy.

Then suddenly one of them noticed a hidden camera and broke away. Or was this also a publicity stunt. We are sure Bigg Boss will never show such footage as there would be a hue and cry with the moral police screaming their lungs hoarse.

Even the show could get banned if such footage was shown. So we don't expect Bigg Boss to even acknowledge officially that all this happened. Maybe, they may term our stories trash.

Maybe they may say our stories are fabricated. But we know our sources. We know where we get our masala from – right from the people who see it first. A reporter is only as good as his sources, they say. So here we bring you dear reader today's exclusive.

We all know that Veena Malik sleeps with her make up on. We all know that Veena Malik changes her clothes 6-7 times a day. She has to check her make up every ten minutes.

Well yesterday while she was hastily trying to change into something new, with a towel wrapped around her and another outfit strapped on, the towel suddenly gave way and the outfit on top followed suit.

FOR ABOUT A FLEETING 10 SECONDS OR SO, VEENA MALIK WAS STARK NAKED IN THE BIGG BOSS HOUSE.

There was another female member in the house whose face was not clearly visible in the camera feed. “The feed was hazy as the light was very bad. I couldn't discern who the other female member was present at that time. It all happened within seconds. Imagine, the actual nude scene feed is not even in seconds, it's only a few hundred frames, ” says our top-secret source from the Bigg Boss editing studio who saw the raw footage.

Veena Malik immediately managed to pull up the towel and cover herself. We do not know if she was trying to pull a publicity stunt or was it a genuine accident? And we will not pass any comment on her actions.

Of course all this cannot be shown on national TV. It's for you to decide dear reader if you want to believe us or not. It's for you to judge if we are telling you the truth or not. But we will continue to bring you such scandalous, unedited, uncensored news right from inside the Bigg Boss house.

This is what we call the True Reality behind Reality Shows. Aisa bhi hota hein!!!!
