A Humble Life, A Powerful Legacy
He was Born in Samastipur district of Bihar. Hazrat Baba's original name was Hazrat Syed Shah Muhammad Abdur Raheem. He got the nickname "Chuna Shah" due to the habit of eating lime (chuna), which would prove to be dangerous for normal people but did not affect him in any way. He was employed at the Tata Steel's lime kiln plant, and one day, when he was eating lime during office time, a foreign engineer took offense at him. Hazrat Baba abandoned the mill and sat outdoors in silence. Miraculously, all activity within the plant ceased and resumed only after officials implored Hazrat Baba to return. Thereafter, Hazrat Baba decided to leave a small cottage outside the Bistupur gate in Jamshedpur and started providing advice and blessings to visitors.
Miracles That Still Echo in Memory
One of Hazrat Baba's most devoted disciples, Shri Ratan Singh Badshah, who spent more than six decades with him, narrates a most notable incident. On his visit to a village that was witnessing severe drought, villagers asked Hazrat Baba to bless them with rain. Hazrat Baba lifted his hands in prayer and uttered, "O water-bearer, send down rain." To the astonishment of all, it rained for three consecutive days and fields became lush green once again.
Urs Celebrations: Devotion, Langar, and Prayers
During Urs, the dargah of Hazrat Baba becomes a vibrant centre of spiritual and communal activity. Devotees offer chadars on the mazar, seek blessings, and perform Mannats (vows). Those whose prayers are fulfilled often donate food grains or sponsor langars (community meals). The gathering includes people suffering from ailments, students seeking success, and families praying for peace and prosperity.
Janab Mohammad Nizaam Sahib of Chaibasa said he had come to get rid of illness. Shrimati Alo Das of Gamharia said she has been coming to the dargah since childhood, having been cured of a fatal illness. Anwari Bano Sahiba from Bihar had come to pray for the well-being of her family. Ravi, a native of Jamshedpur, had come to the shrine with the hope of finding employment.
