By Dr. Zafar Darik Qasmi, New Age Islam

7 November 2025

Abstract:

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) brought a universal message of peace, justice, and compassion for all humanity. His teachings were not limited to any nation or race but addressed every human being. He taught the oneness of God (Tawheed), equality of all people, and the importance of knowledge and justice. Through the Charter of Madinah, he established the first constitutional model of social harmony and human rights. His life was filled with mercy — forgiving his enemies, helping the poor, protecting orphans, and honouring women. The Prophet encouraged kindness to animals and respect for all creation. His message remains timeless: real greatness lies in morality, mercy, and piety — not power or wealth. In today’s world of conflict and inequality, his guidance offers a path to global peace and human dignity. His teachings are a light for all ages and all people.

Main Points:

1.    Prophet Muhammad’s message was for all humanity — teaching peace, equality, justice, and love beyond race or religion.

3.    The Charter of Madinah ensured justice, freedom, and peaceful coexistence among diverse communities.

4.    The Prophet’s mercy included forgiveness, helping the weak, honouring women, and showing kindness to animals.

5.    His timeless teachings guide modern humanity towards peace, knowledge, moral strength, and respect for every human being.

The pages of human history bear witness that whenever humanity was lost in the darkness of oppression, ignorance, and injustice, Allah sent His prophets and messengers to guide people with the light of truth. Among all these true guides, the last and most perfect personality is Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who gave mankind a complete message of salvation, knowledge, justice, love, and peace — a message that continues to guide the world even today.

The message of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was not limited to any particular nation, race, or region — it was a universal call for all humanity. He connected man with his Creator and taught mankind to love one another.

The Foundation of the Prophet’s Message: Oneness of God (Tawheed)

The central pillar of the Prophet’s mission was Tawheed, the belief that “There is no god but Allah.” This was not just a religious statement but a revolutionary idea. Tawheed freed human beings from the slavery of other humans, from kings and priests, and from all social hierarchies. It gave every person the dignity of being directly connected to the Creator without any intermediaries.

The Qur’an declares:

“There is no compulsion in religion.” (Al-Baqarah: 256)

This was the first declaration of freedom of belief in human history. Islam did not tie faith to coercion or force, but to reason, understanding, and knowledge.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“All human beings are the children of Adam, and Adam was created from dust.”

This saying reflects a universal philosophy of equality and brotherhood, erasing all boundaries of race, language, and colour. The meaning of Tawheed is not only to worship one God but also to recognise that no human being is superior to another — except through piety and good deeds.

Justice and Equality in Society

The Prophet (peace be upon him) made justice the foundation of social life. In his view, society could only remain peaceful if the weak received the same justice as the strong. He said:

“The nations before you were destroyed because they used to punish the poor for their crimes but let the rich go unpunished.”

The Islamic state of Madinah was founded on the principles of justice and equality. There was no distinction between Arab and non-Arab, rich or poor, master or slave. When Bilal, a former African slave, gave the call to prayer, even the proud Arab chiefs remained silent out of respect. This was a moral revolution that no philosophy or system in history had ever achieved.

The Qur’an commands:

“Indeed, Allah commands justice and kindness.” (An-Nahl: 90)

Through the Charter of Madinah, the Prophet (peace be upon him) established equal rights for all communities — Muslims, Jews, and other tribes — making it the world’s first written constitution guaranteeing mutual respect, rights, and peace among citizens.

Knowledge: The Light of Islam

The first revelation to the Prophet (peace be upon him) began with the word “Read” (Iqra). This was a clear sign that Islam considers knowledge, research, and understanding as the foundation of human progress.

The Prophet described ignorance as darkness and knowledge as light. His teachings transformed the deserts of Arabia into the cradle of civilization, producing scholars, scientists, and thinkers who illuminated the world.

The Qur’an repeatedly calls for reflection and reasoning:

“Do you not think? Do you not reflect?”

Faith, in Islam, is not blind imitation — it is based on understanding, awareness, and insight.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): Mercy to All the Worlds

Throughout history, many great personalities brought moral and intellectual reforms, but none can compare to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) — the one whom Allah honoured with the title “Mercy to all the worlds.”

The Qur’an declares:

“We have sent you as a mercy to all the worlds.” (Al-Anbiya: 107)

This verse explains the universal mission of the Prophet (peace be upon him). His mercy was not limited to Muslims, but extended to all humanity, animals, and all creation. Mercy means compassion, kindness, love, and goodwill — and the Prophet embodied all these qualities.

He prayed for his enemies, gave justice to the oppressed, cared for orphans, freed slaves, honoured women, and built a society on moral and intellectual foundations. His mercy was not just in words but in action. Even his enemies could not resist his noble character.

When he conquered Makkah — the same city that had exiled him and tortured his followers — he said to his former enemies:

“Go, you are all free.”

This was the greatest act of forgiveness in human history — no revenge, no punishment, only mercy.

At Ta’if, when the people attacked him with stones and wounded him, the Angel of the Mountains asked if he should crush them between the hills. But the Prophet (peace be upon him) replied:

“No. Perhaps their descendants will recognise Allah and worship Him.”

Such mercy turned hatred into compassion and cruelty into hope.

Teachings of Mercy and Compassion

The Prophet (peace be upon him) taught his followers:

“Show mercy to those on earth, and the One in the heavens will show mercy to you.”

He said:

“Whoever does not show mercy to the young and respect to the elders is not one of us.”

He emphasised care for orphans:

“The one who takes care of an orphan and I will be together in Paradise like these two fingers.”

He also taught justice and kindness towards workers, slaves, and women. At a time when women had no status, he declared:

“The best among you is the one who is best to his wife, and I am the best among you to my wives.”

This was not merely advice — it was a social revolution.

His compassion extended even to animals and nature. He said:

“A woman was punished in Hell because she imprisoned a cat — neither feeding it nor setting it free.”

And:

“A man was forgiven because he gave water to a thirsty dog.”

Such teachings prove that Islam is not just a religion of worship, but a complete system of mercy, kindness, and humanity.

The Prophet’s Vision for Humanity

The mission of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was to purify human souls, build a moral society, and establish peace and compassion on earth. He said:

“None of you truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.”

This is the foundation of human unity, equality, and brotherhood. He prayed for the oppressed, sought guidance for the oppressors, and always preferred peace over revenge.

The Relevance of the Prophet’s Message Today

Today’s world is drowning in hatred, wars, prejudice, and greed. The message of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) offers hope and healing. If humanity follows his teachings of mercy, justice, and love, the world can find true peace.

He said:

“The Most Merciful shows mercy to those who are merciful. Be merciful to those on earth, and the One above the heavens will be merciful to you.”

This golden principle can become the foundation of global peace and human happiness.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught that greatness does not lie in power or wealth, but in compassion, forgiveness, and sincerity. His teachings remain as relevant today as they were 1400 years ago.

His Charter of Madinah and Farewell Sermon both contain timeless messages:

“All human beings are equal. The best among you is the one who is most righteous.”

In today’s world — torn by war, division, inequality, and moral decline — the solution lies in the Prophet’s message. He showed that peace is possible when hearts are ruled by justice, minds by knowledge, and actions by mercy. Islam is not a religion of extremism, but of balance, wisdom, and compassion.

The Prophet’s principles were centuries ahead of modern human rights. In his Farewell Sermon, he said:

“Your blood, your property, and your honour are sacred, just as this day and this month are sacred.”

This was the first universal charter of human dignity. The message of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is truly the key to humanity’s survival, peace, and progress.

He connected people to their Creator, spread the light of knowledge and justice, taught equality and mercy, and showed that true success lies not in wealth or power but in morality, knowledge, and piety.

In a world suffering from spiritual emptiness despite material progress, the Prophet’s life and message provide the roadmap to salvation.

If humanity sincerely follows his teachings, hatred will turn into love, oppression into justice, and ignorance into knowledge.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is not the messenger of Muslims alone — he is the messenger for all humanity, bringing a universal message of peace, justice, love, and knowledge — a message that was true yesterday, remains true today, and will be true forever.
