Saudi Arabia Boosts Jobs In Tourism Sector With Focus On Women, Under Vision 2030
September 27, 2024
Saudi Arabia is making significant investments in its tourism sector, with a strategic focus on job creation, particularly for women and young people. These efforts are part of the Kingdom’s larger plan to boost the industry’s contribution to employment and economic growth, aligning with its broader goals of economic diversification under Vision 2030. By expanding opportunities within tourism, Saudi Arabia aims to develop a sustainable sector that benefits various segments of society.
A joint report by the Ministry of Tourism and the World Travel & Tourism Council recently highlighted the considerable impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism workforce, especially among women and youth. Despite these challenges, the Kingdom has made impressive strides in empowering women within the industry. Currently, women represent 42 percent of the domestic tourism workforce, a clear indicator of their increasing influence and active participation in shaping the future of tourism.
According to data from the World Tourism Organization, women now occupy 22 percent of leadership positions within Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector, while 46 percent are employed in other areas. These statistics underscore the Kingdom’s dedication to fostering greater gender equality and promoting female leadership across various levels of the industry.
In 2019, the global travel and tourism sector supported approximately 48.4 million women and 19 million young people. By 2022, those numbers had fallen to 42 million and 16.1 million, reflecting the pandemic’s ongoing effects. Nevertheless, Saudi Arabia is determined to reverse these declines by creating new opportunities and driving workforce growth.
Looking ahead, the Kingdom is also focusing on developing tourism infrastructure to accommodate the expected surge in international and domestic tourists. Through large-scale projects such as NEOM, the Red Sea Project, and Diriyah Gate, Saudi Arabia is not only enhancing its tourism appeal but also laying the foundation for long-term job creation. This approach aims to ensure that future employment in tourism will continue to be a cornerstone of the country’s economic transformation.

Bushra Bibi, Wife Of Imran Khan, Booked In 12 Cases, Lahore High CourtTold
September 27, 2024
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) was informed on Thursday that a total of 12 criminal cases had been registered against incarcerated Bushra Bibi, the wife of PTI founding chairman Imran Khan.
Additional Advocate General Sattar Sahil filed a report before the court, saying 12 police cases were registered against Bushra, namely 11 in Rawalpindi and one in Attock.
A federal government’s lawyer also mentioned that a case related to Toshakhana was registered against her by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
In light of the governments’ reports, Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh disposed of a petition by Bushra Bibi seeking details of all undisclosed cases registered against her.
The petition contended that the petitioner had been unlawfully imprisoned despite not being required in any criminal case following her acquittal, confirmation of bail and suspension of the sentences in all previous cases registered against her. It said if the petitioner was arrested in any other case without bringing it to her knowledge, it would amount to miscarriage of justice.
The petitioner’s lawyer asked the court to order the respondents to submit a fresh list of disclosed and undisclosed cases against his client and also issue an order preventing her arrest in any such cases.

Racist Thugs Surrounded Young Muslim Women And Tried To Pull Off Their Scarves In A Shocking Display Of IslamophobiaIn Manchester
26 Sep 2024
A woman was left feeling violated and dehumanised after being subjected to horrific racist abuse and spat on during chaotic 'protests' in Manchester.
In a shocking display of Islamophobia, Thomas Richard, 56, joined a mob in Piccadilly Gardens on August 3, where they targeted three young women wearing hijabs and headscarves with vile slurs. Manchester Crown Court was shown footage of the group encircling the women and spitting at them, with one man's spit hitting a woman's face as she shopped in the city centre.
The unrest was sparked by false rumours about the identity of a man involved in a tragic incident in Southport, leading to the gathering. Richard, from Miles Platting, in Manchester, who had earlier admitted to violent disorder, was sentenced to prison on September 24.
The court heard the victim's impact statement, where she expressed her shock and disgust at the treatment by far-right EDL members: "I am very much appalled and disgraced at the behaviour of the far-right EDL members towards myself. The assault was completely unprovoked as I was just watching from a sensible distance and do not feel under any circumstances I deserved what had happened to me.", reports the Manchester Evening News.
She continued, detailing the humiliation of the attack: "Being spat on is a despicable act that made me feel extremely violated, degraded and dehumanised. I felt scared and worried for my safety (and others) in that moment and I still do."
"As a result of this assault I am now terrified to leave my own home because of these people and what happened to me."
The court was told that the 22 year old woman, who identifies as white British and was wearing a hijab and a keffiyeh scarf in support of Palestine, was observing the large group and police in Piccadilly Gardens during the afternoon.
"Seeing that the group were becoming more violent, and the police were trying to disperse them in a different direction, she tried to go across Piccadilly Gardens," prosecutor Kate Gaskell explained.
"She heard shouts of "Stop the boats" AND "Go back home", as well as comments about her God, Allah, and religion. She said 'I could feel how hateful those words were, especially as I was there on my own without anyone I knew'."
"She was confronted by one member who said, 'What are you doing here, can't you see you are antagonising us'. She informed him she was simply watching. In retrospect she thought perhaps she should have left but she didn't want to let them win, and it was a public place."
The court heard that the situation escalated quickly, during which time two Muslim girls in headscarves came to join her. They were quickly surrounded by a large group of individuals chanting "Go back home."
The woman bravely stepped in to defend the two girls, only to have the crowd's insults turned on her. They accused her of being brainwashed and questioned if she had been married at the age of 6.
The mob grew more hostile, shouting 'Get that terrorist flag off her' and yanking at her Keffiyeh scarf until several Muslim men intervened. "Before she had a chance to move, she felt spit land on her right cheek," Ms Gaskell added.
In a video obtained by the police, Richard can be seen chanting and making gun gestures with his fingers towards the three girls, yelling: 'F*** off home. "He was shouting aggressively and spat in the direction of the three girls, although he wasn't responsible for the spit that landed on the victim," the prosecutor clarified.
"The defendant continued to shout 'F*** off home' and then 'F*** off to Palestine'. A photojournalist present also heard him say something along the lines of 'Take the burkas' and 'We want our country back'.DamienZelazowski, defending, admitted that the three young women were 'targeted' by the group for some time and were 'pursued' even under police protection. On the day of the incident, he explained: "He was passing through on his way to St Anne's Square to go to the food bank. He saw the protests and got involved thinking it would be more peaceful than it turned out to be.
"But he didn't move away and he became more involved. He does offer his apologies, he is ashamed of what took place."
He became emboldened by the crowd and, to use his wording, swept up. "Sentencing Richard, who has 55 previous convictions for 141 offences, Judge Patrick Field KC said the 'protest' had the appearance of people 'venting ill informed and ignorant prejudices'."
They were racist, ill informed and Islamophobia chanting and vile abuse towards her. Her calm defiance in the fact of what was being said to her was frankly admirable and humbling," he said."
She stood up for herself and her beliefs in the face of the nasty, ill educated and intolerant comments. She said she felt dehumanised by what happened to her - she demonstrated more humanity than many others present.
"You were threatening and deliberately insulting her not because you took a personal dislike to her, but simply because of her Muslim faith." Richard, of Kingsland Close, Miles Platting, was jailed for 20 months. He was also banned from entering a certain area in Manchester city centre for three years under the terms of a criminal behaviour order.

Two Teachers Suspended In BangladeshOver ‘Instructing Hindu Students To Wear Hijabs’
27 Sep 2024,
The authorities have suspended two teachers for allegedly asking female students of Hindu faith to wear hijab at a school in Rangpur city.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faysal said the decision was taken at a meeting in the wake of a protest staged on Wednesday by several students of Moslem Uddin Girl's High School in the city’s Kamal Kachna area.
He said on Thursday, “The two teachers of the school had asked the students from the Hindu community to wear hijabs or made controversial remarks over the reading of the Bhagavad Gita. It triggered tension among the Hindu students.
“That’s why the accused teachers have been suspended with immediate effect. They were asked to submit their written statement within 10 working days. Action will be taken against them pending an investigation.”
A video of the students’ protest which took place early on Wednesday went viral on social media.
The meeting was subsequently held at the office of the district administrator where the authorities decided to suspend the school’s headmaster Mustafizur Rahman and religion teacher Maulana Mustafizar Rahman.
However, the two denied the allegations brought against them.
The students alleged that the headmaster and the teacher of Islam and Moral Education had asked the Hindu pupils to wear hijabs alongside their Muslim peers at a school assembly, which sparked a protest and tension in the locality.
School management committee, political and Hindu community leaders, and parents later took the situation under control.
In the viral video, a female Hindu student alleged that her teacher had asked her to memorise verses from the Quran and wear a hijab, saying she would be subject to harassment by boys otherwise. She said the teachers also swore at them in the classroom.
Several girls alleged that those teachers had also made objectionable remarks about the worship of idols and the Hindu religion.
They alleged the school authorities also used to ignore Gita recitation at the assembly citing time constraints.
Gita recitation resumed following an allegation over the issue but it came to a halt again recently, they claimed.
However, head teacher Mustafizur cited the incident over the wearing of hijabs as a conspiracy.
He said, “We had asked the girls to wear scarves with their school uniform. We never asked them to wear hijabs.”
Asked then why are the students making such allegations, he said: “I had filed a case against a group of people over extortion several months ago. This evil group is trying to encourage the students to harass us by altering the word ‘scarves’ to ‘hijabs.’”
The headmaster also demanded measures alongside a proper investigation.
Maulana Mustafizar said, “I teach Islam. I don’t attend Hindu religion classes. An influential individual is conducting such things due to his failure to appoint his brother as a teacher of the school.”

Jordan, Palestine explore women's empowerment, collaboration
September 26, 2024
Amman - Minister of Social Development and Head of the Inter-Ministerial Committee for the Empowerment of Women, Wafa Bani Mustafa, met on Thursday with the Palestinian Minister of Women's Affairs, Muna Khalili, to explore ways of collaboration and coordination, particularly in enhancing the role of women in security and peace, while focusing on the struggles faced by Palestinian women and girls under occupation.
During the meeting, Bani Mustafa reaffirmed the positions of His Majesty King Abdullah II regarding the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights, highlighting the King's statements at the United Nations that emphasized the international community's responsibilities towards the suffering of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, as well as Jordan's unwavering support for the Palestinian cause.
She highlighted the remarks of Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah during her participation in the annual One Young World Summit, noting that the world deserves a more just and equal system, and her warning of the great implications of Israeli practices that will affect the future of coming generations.
Bani Mustafa pointed out that the aggression against Gaza primarily affects women and girls amid dire humanitarian conditions and a lack of security and stability.
She stressed the importance of intensifying efforts to support the issues of Palestinian women and girls through the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign and during the Commission on the Status of Women meetings in New York.
For her part, Khalili noted that this meeting occurs amidst ongoing aggression against the Palestinian people, where women are paying a heavy price due to these attacks. She emphasized that it aims to enhance coordination between the Palestinian Ministry of Women's Affairs and the Ministry of Social Development, as well as the ministerial committee, to empower Jordanian women at the Arab level and in international forums.
Khalili emphasized her strong commitment to furthering this collaboration through effective partnerships that advance women's empowerment and strengthen their roles in tackling challenges.
