Mini skirts and midnight parties: Israeli women recall leaving Tehran after the revolution

Before the revolution: “I was born in Tehran in 1971, in a home filled with music and culture. We lived in a well-off Muslim neighborhood and had excellent relations with our Muslim neighbors. I clearly remember my mother during the Shah’s reign. Iran was like Europe—both in dress and behavior. My mother, Mahin-Sara Yousian, now 74, used to drive. My parents divorced when I was five, and I stayed with my father, grandmother and aunts. When my mother came to pick me up, she was always so glamorous—long, flowing hair and oversized sunglasses. Women dressed entirely in Western fashion: bell-bottom pants, sleeveless tops, knee-high boots and more.”

When the regime changed: “We were suddenly required to cover our hair and wear uniforms—full-body coverings. But we lived in an upscale area, and we tried to hold on to some sense of freedom, as much as we could. We dressed in navy blue and olive green—never red, God forbid—and wore long coats and headscarves over our European-style clothing. Parties were moved indoors. At 16, I was walking down the street with a friend when two women from the Revolutionary Guard approached us. They said our hair was showing under the hijab and told us to remove our nail polish. They took us into a car, gave us a lecture on modesty, and handed us nail polish remover so we could clean our nails in front of them.”

Photos in the album: “One photo shows me with my mother before the revolution. Another shows me at 16, wrapped in a chador (a covering from head to toe), as we were required to dress. Beside it is a photo from when my mother could still wear a swimsuit.”

Providing All Necessary Facilities For Women In All Aspects Of Life: IEA

May 25, 2025

Islam recognizes women as equals to men with a diverse set of rights and responsibilities. The Holy Quran and Islamic legal tradition provide frameworks for protecting women’s rights, including financial freedom, decision-making power in marriage and divorce, and property ownership. However, interpretations and practices can vary across different Islamic communities and cultures, leading to diverse understandings and applications of these rights.

As Islam grants significant rights to women, the Islamic Emirate has made all efforts to provide facilities for Afghan women in all aspects of life, including education, healthcare, and addressing poverty. Afghan women have not the inheritance rights as well as the right to consent to marriage, and can reject marriage proposals, and they are now protected from any abuses and exploitation as Islam prohibits the exploitation or abuse or women and emphasizes the importance of treating them with respect and dignity.

As part of its efforts to protect women’s rights and address social injustices in the country, the Ministry of Vice and Virtue has released a report detailing its activities over the past month. The ministry’s vice and virtue inspectors have resolved dozens of cases involving women across the country in the past one months.

Among dozens of the cases, 38 cases of forced marriage have been prevented, 24 women have been granted their rightful shares of inheritance, 40 women have been rescued from domestic violence, 22 women have been granted their rightful dowry, and eight girls have been rescued from forced marriage in exchange of resolving the enmity between the families.

In addition to that dozens of cases of issues involved women have been address in the past one month, around 120 tribal and ethnic conflicts have been prevented, 41 sorcerer and magicians have been arrested, 89 sessions have been held with entrepreneurs and businessmen as well as 797 sessions have been held by the Ministry of Vice and Virtue with various segments of the people in the country.

These all activities show that the Islamic Emirate is working to ensure the rights of all citizens, including the women in the country. Efforts are underway to fully provide all rights to the women that include marriage, education, inheritance, and the rights of freedoms that Islam grants them and are their fundamental rights. With the Islamic Emirate takeover, continued and significant steps have been taken in ensuring citizens’ rights, including those of women in the country. Efforts are being made to address all those rights that Islam has granted to them. If we go back, Muslim women were given their rights 1400 years ago. The rights of women in Islam are an important aspect of its core teachings. Therefore, the Islamic Emirate is making all its efforts to provide all necessary facilities for women in all aspects of life. Mukhtar

Two Bangladeshi women held in Durg in Chhattisgarh for illegal stay

May 24, 2025

Durg, May 24 (PTI) Two Bangladeshi women were arrested in Durg in Chhattisgarh on Saturday for illegal stay in the country, a senior police official said.

"The Special Task Force of the district police, which has been constituted to identify Bangladeshi and Rohingya intruders living illegally in the state, held them from Jayanti Nagar under Mohan Nagar police station limits. During interrogation, Noor and Begum initially identified themselves as Sapna Sharma alias Sapna Mandal and Rani Paswan, respectively," the SSP said.

"Noor entered India illegally 15 years ago. Later, she reached Chhattisgarh's Raipur city and resided in Changorabhata area for eight years. In 2019, she obtained Aadhaar card, voter ID card and PAN card in the name of Sapna Sharma by declaring one Abhay Sharma as her husband. She was in constant touch with several numbers from Bangladesh through internet-based calls," he said.

Begum also obtained ID cards using forged documents that showed her as a native of Asansol in Bardhaman district West Bengal, he said.

Islam Poses A Direct Threat To European Women - Sweden PM

25-05-2025

Swedish Member of parliament Beatrice Timgren’s recent remarks on Islamism have ignited intense debate across political and social circles in Europe. By stating that “Islamism poses a direct threat to women in Europe,” and urging sweden to “stop importing the oppression of women,” she draws a sharp distinction between Islamic extremism and the broader religion of Islam.

However, the provocative phrasing—particularly referring to islam as an “anti-women religion”—blurs that line, leading many to interpret her comments as a sweeping indictment of islam itself rather than a targeted critique of its radical offshoots. Her statement taps into growing public concerns around gender equality, migration, and cultural integration, especially in countries like sweden that have seen large waves of immigration from Muslim-majority nations.

Timgren’s comments reflect a broader european anxiety over how to reconcile liberal democratic values—especially those concerning women’s rights—with the challenges posed by radical ideologies that emerge within certain migrant communities. Islamist extremism has indeed been associated with restrictive views on women, from dress codes and gender segregation to more severe cases of honor violence or forced marriages. These issues are real and deserve attention.

But framing the problem in absolutist terms risks alienating peaceful, law-abiding Muslim citizens—many of whom are women themselves advocating for reform and equality from within their own communities. A blanket condemnation of islam rather than a focused critique of radical ideologies can stifle dialogue and hinder the development of inclusive, rights-based strategies for integration.

The challenge for european policymakers lies in addressing the genuine threats posed by Islamism without descending into xenophobia or religious discrimination. Timgren’s rhetoric may resonate with segments of the public frustrated by perceived failures of multiculturalism, but it also risks deepening divides and feeding far-right narratives that conflate religion with terrorism or misogyny.

A more effective approach would involve bolstering support for women’s rights through education, community partnerships, and law enforcement—while being careful to distinguish between combating extremism and vilifying a faith practiced peacefully by millions. The stakes are high: Europe’s future cohesion depends on its ability to safeguard its values without sacrificing its pluralism.
