Minor boy stabs mother to death over Eid clothes in Pakpattan

March 30, 2025

SAHIWAL: A seven-year-old boy allegedly killed his mother in a fit of rage with a pair of scissors after she refused to give him money to buy new clothes for the upcoming Eid here on Friday in Mohallah Gulzarabad, Pakpattan.

Despite efforts by Rescue 1122, the woman, identified as 35-year-old Sobia, succumbed to her injuries after being stabbed in the abdomen.

Sobia, a tailor who worked from home, was supporting her family alongside her husband, Abdul Sattar, a daily wage labourer. The couple had three children - an eldest daughter and two younger sons, including seven-year-old Abdullah, the middle child.

According to Abdul Sattar, Abdullah had been asking his mother for money, but she assured him she would buy clothes once she received payments from her customers. On the day of the incident, when Sobia refused again, Abdullah grabbed a pair of scissors and stabbed her. The boy broke down in tears. Neighbours and his sister rushed to help, but Sobia died in the courtyard before further aid.

Pakpattan city police sent the body to DHQ Hospital for autopsy and took Abdullah into custody. However, no case was registered due to his minor status.

District Police Officer (DPO) Javed Chadhar stated that the police received three separate affidavits from father Sattar, grandmother Shamim Akhtar and uncle Maqsood claiming the incident was accidental and requesting no legal action against the child. He assured that all legal requirements would be fulfilled, adding that the boy would be presented before a magistrate along with the affidavits and was expected to be released by the evening.

BOOKED: The Regional Office of the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has booked 11 individuals, including a patwari and an officer from the Land Record Centre (LRC) in Sahiwal, for orchestrating a fraudulent transfer of 11 kanals and seven marlas land in village 89/9-L, tehsil Sahiwal.

ACE has registered a case against Abdul Manaf (patwari), Kamran Ali (LRC officer), and nine allottees -- Amir Masood, Sadia Aslam, Muhammad Yasin, Abid Hussain, Muhammad Sadiq, Abad Ahmed, Muhammad Aslam, and Khalid Hussain -- under Sections 471, 468, 420 pf Pakistan Penal Code and PCA 5/2-47.

The case was filed following a complaint by Sardar Zahid Shuja, a resident of New Garden Town, Lahore, who is the rightful landowner.

According to reports, Shahzad Warriach, one of the hereditary owners of 1,986 kanals, allegedly conducted an oral land transfer under transfer No. 1137, receiving Rs10m with the involvement of two LRC officials.

Shortly after her release by the Taliban in Afghanistan, American woman Faye Hall celebreated her new found freedom and thanked US President Donald Trump for ‘bringing her home’. Hall, along with a British couple and their Afghan translator, was detained on February 1 while traveling to central Bamiyan province.

In a video that was shared on Trump's Truth Social account shows Faye Hall in apparently good health. She was seen smiling and as she said: “Thank you for bringing me home.”

"Thank you, Mr President," she said. "And I just want you to know, all the women in the Afghan jail, they always ask me, 'When is Trump coming?' You, truly, they just treat you like their savior. They're waiting for you to come and set them free."

Hall, identified by the Taliban's interior ministry as Chinese-American, was detained along with Peter and Barbie Reynolds, who are in their 70s, as they travelled to the British couple's home in central Bamiyan province. Their Afghan translator was also arrested.

Taliban officials have refused to detail the reasons for their arrest, but one report said Hall had been detained on charges of using a drone without authorization.

Washington's former envoy to Kabul, Zalmay Khalilzad has innformed that Hall is now under the care of the Qatari delegation in Kabul.

"American citizen Faye Hall, just released by the Taliban, is now in the care of our friends, the Qataris in Kabul, and will soon be on her way home," Khalilzad, who has been part of a US delegation working on Taliban hostage releases, wrote on X.

While at the Qatari embassy, Hall "has been confirmed in good health after undergoing a series of medical checks," according to a source with knowledge of the release.

Earlier this month, Khalilzad visited the Afghan capital on a rare trip by U.S. officials to meet with Taliban authorities, accompanying U.S. hostage envoy Adam Boehler.

Following their visit, the Taliban government announced the release of US citizen George Glezmann after more than two years of detention, in a deal brokered by Qatar.

In January, two Americans detained in Afghanistan -- Ryan Corbett and William McKenty -- were freed in exchange for an Afghan fighter, Khan Mohammed, who was convicted of narco-terrorism in the United States.

Video of woman slapping Umrah security officer at Prophet's Mosque prompts investigation

29 March, 2025

A video has gone viral after a woman slapped a security officer at the Masjid Nabawi (Prophet’s Mosque) in Medina, Saudi Arabia, prompting an investigation by authorities.

A tense confrontation between the woman and a male security officer took place in the courtyards of the sacred mosque. Medina Region Police confirmed the confrontation sparked after the officer instructed the woman to take an alternative route after she attempted to use an unauthorised walkway.

When she refused, she slapped him in defiance. In response, the officer slapped her twice, which escalated the situation. Other security personnel quickly intervened to defuse the conflict, with one guard physically restraining the woman.

In a statement, the Saudi General Directorate of Public Security said that all necessary legal procedures are being followed. "The department is currently investigating the incident of a woman assaulting a security officer in the Prophet’s Mosque while he was performing his duties and is completing the necessary legal procedures," a statement read.

Saudi Officials have now confirmed that an investigation into the incident has been completed, revealing that the female pilgrim obstructed the security official in the line of duty and assaulted him.

Though they have not disclosed the woman’s nationality or provided additional details about the altercation, Saudi officials said that such incidents will not be tolerated and anyone who attacks security personnel performing their duties at Masjid-e-Nabawi will face legal action.

They reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of security personnel and upholding the law at sacred sites like the Prophet’s Mosque.

Social media reactions to the incident have been mixed, with some condemning the woman’s actions while others questioned the severity of the security officer’s response.

One user said: "I have visited Haramain many times, security officials are very kind and helping nature and their duties are very hard. We should obey their instructions to avoid stampede. They should be given full respect."

Another added: "I think they were both wrong, she shouldn't have slapped him, and he shouldn't have slapped back, why wasn't she obeying the instructions in the first place."

"The woman was at fault for not listening and then slapping first. But security personnel also need to learn how to communicate clearly - he comes across as rude and aggressive. This is not how you speak to the visitors," a third said.
