Sabrina
Siddiqui, the White House correspondent for The Wall Street Journal, has been
targetted online by pro-Hindutva social media users after she asked Prime
Minister Narendra Modi a question at his press conference on Thursday about the
alleged discrimination against Muslims in India. On Saturday, the attacks
forced Siddiqui to post pictures of herself cheering for the Indian cricket
team.
Amit
Malviya, the head of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s information department,
described the question from Siddiqui as “motivated”. He said that the answers
from Modi and the US President Biden was a “blow” to the “toolkit gang,” a pejorative
reference to protesters who use digital tools to organise and coordinate
protests.
Accounts
known for posting pro-Bharatiya Janata Party and pro-Hindutva tweets labeled
Siddiqui an “Islamist” as they pointed to her Muslim identity.
In
asking the question about Indian Muslims, some social media users accused
working withan agenda and hinted that she was doing so at the behest of
Pakistan. They dig out an eight-year-old Instagram post by her showing a
Pakistani flag requesting prayers for Pakistan.

be selected and from among them, 69 will go to Kabul and 31 others will be
admitted to Nangarhar medical university.”
“We
call on the government to present doctors to society who are really doctors at
an international level. The opportunities that are provided for the
international doctors should be provided to the (Afghan) doctors,” said Rahim
Gul Darwish, a participant.
“I
hope justice will be served. Those who studied and made a great effort, their
efforts should not be wasted,” said NisarNaseemi, another participant, TOLOnews
reported.
Earlier,
TOLOnews interviewed graduates of medical universities who voiced criticism
over the delay in setting the date of the medical expert examination, which is
scheduled annually by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH).
Prior
to the medical exam, female students in Afghanistan reacted to the decision
that no longer allows female students to take the final medical exam ‘the exit
exam’.

Baroness
Helena Kennedy KCTells Of ‘Terrible Texts’ From Trapped Afghan Women Pleading
For Help
Katrine
Bussey
25-06-2023
A
leading human rights lawyer has told how she still receives “tragic, terrible
text messages” from women hiding from the Taliban in Afghanistan, nearly two
years after she managed to evacuate more than 500 people from the conflict-torn
country.
Baroness
Helena Kennedy KC organised the evacuation of 103 women who were on Taliban
“kill lists” in September and October 2021, flying them and their families to
safety.
A
total of 508 people escaped on three flights the Scottish-born Labour peer
arranged – but she told how she still gets pleas for help from some women who
were unable to flee at that time.
Hitting
out at the UK Government, she said the Tories’ “dog whistle politics” on
immigration mean she can no longer bring people to safety in Britain.
“I
have still got women sending me the most tragic, terrible text messages and
phoning me at all hours, saying ‘please help me, I am hiding in my basement, I
didn’t get on your planes in 2021 because my mother was dying, I couldn’t leave
at the time, but now they are after me’.
“But
all I can say is ‘I’m sorry, they don’t provide visas to Britain from
Afghanistan, you have to go to another country, Pakistan is the nearest, you
have to get your kids across that border’.”
Baroness
Kennedy described the evacuation she organised in 2021 as “one of the crazier
things I have done in my life”, but also “one of the things I feel was
absolutely the right thing to do”.
Condemning
the shortage of legal routes for those fleeing persecution to come to the UK,
she said that is why “quite a number” of those who attempt to arrive on small
boats across the Channel are originally from Afghanistan.
Prime
Minister Rishi Sunak has made a commitment to “stop the boats” as one of his
key pledges to voters, with the UK Government currently pursuing a crackdown on
refugees entering the country illegally in the Illegal Migration Bill.
She
said: “I’m a lawyer, and I believe in the rule of law. And I think rather like
Boris (Johnson) being dismissive or applying the rules to himself, I am afraid
that has spilled into the behaviour of other ministers.
“I
am afraid that the Home Office in this is prepared to break international law
on the refugee convention, the convention on the rights of the child, the
convention on the elimination of discrimination against women, because they are
prepared to deport pregnant women.
“One
of the fundamentals in Scots law and English law is the right to due process,
that before you lose any of your rights that you should have the opportunity of
putting your case.
She
described the proposals as “pretty disgusting”, and added: “It is being done
because this is a Government running out of policy and running out of road.
A
Home Office spokesman said: “The UK has a proud history of providing safe and
legal routes for those who need it, and the UK’s current offer is the most
generous in recent history.
“Between
2015 and March 2023, we have offered a place to over half a million men, women
and children seeking safety.

RIYADH:
The Saudi delegation at the UN in Geneva organized a ceremony on Saturday to
mark the annual International Day of Women in Diplomacy.
Permanent
Representative of Saudi Arabia to the UN AbdulmohsenMajed bin Khothaila, the
members of the Saudi delegation, and diplomats and ambassadors from around the
world attended the event, as well as media outlets, representatives of civil
society and officials from international organizations.
Meanwhile,
Arab Parliament Speaker Adel Al-Asoumi issued a statement commending the
success of Arab women in many fields, especially diplomacy. Al-Asoumi noted
that a number of women in the Arab world occupy high-level diplomatic positions
and that many female ambassadors around the world are excellent figureheads for
their countries, “as a result of their competence and merit.”
He
said that the International Day of Women in Diplomacy “unequivocally affirms
that women have actively served their country internally or externally” and
called for greater efforts to benefit from Arab women’s qualifications and
skills in support of diplomatic work in the Arab world.
Al-Asoumi
congratulated and thanked Arab female diplomats for their valuable
participation in their states’ foreign policies and the defense of their
interests abroad.
Secretary-General
of the Gulf Cooperation Council JasemAlbudaiwi highlighted the role that women
in the GCC have played in nurturing generation after generation, adding that
they are “the pillar of the family.”
He
said: “Today, as everyone knows, GCC women play a decisive diplomatic role
regionally and globally, including in cementing ties among countries and
spreading peace at regional and global levels.”
Albudaiwi
also pointed out that female diplomats are a symbol of strength and creativity,
as they have leadership skills and “distinguished negotiating capabilities,”
and know how to deal with complex diplomatic challenges.
“Historically,
there are many events in which women have proven their (abilities) in
international summits and negotiations, and this has led to stronger diplomatic
communications between our peoples, and to the promotion of peace and stability
in the region,” he said.
He
added that the status of GCC women in the diplomatic field shows the pride that
leaders in the GCC take in promoting gender equality and supporting the role of
women in decision-making.
“The
GCC member states have, over the years, extended unwavering support to the
diplomatic women of the GCC by tailoring a comprehensive and fair working
environment for them, as well as removing all obstacles and challenges (they
face) and ensuring they receive full support in successfully carrying out their
duties,” he added.
