COIMBATORE: The parents of a Class 7 girl at a government high school in Ashokapuram on Tuesday lodged a complaint to the chief educational officer alleging that a teacher had spoken ill about their habit of eating beef meat and their religion.

In the petition, the parents stated that the female teacher did not like children who came to school wearing hijab and had been harassing children from minority community indirectly for the last few months.

“Two months ago, the teacher asked my child about my occupation.

My child had told her that I run a beef and meat shop. Two weeks ago, the teacher beat up my child and criticized our eating habit of beef consumption.” The parents added that they took up the issue with the headmistress, but she supported the teacher. Since the headmistress did not take action on their complaint, they approached the CEO.

Headmistress Rajeshwari refused to speak about it. Chief Educational Officer R Balamurali told TNIE that he received the complaint from the parents and would order an inquiry.

Hadasa Bozakkaravani, 48, turned herself in to police Tuesday.

------------

NEW YORK - A woman who allegedly threw her cell phone and hot coffee at a man in a hate crime attack at a New York City playground surrendered herself to police on Tuesday.

Police said HadasaBozakkaravani, 48, is accused of making anti-Islamic statements to the victim at Edmonds Playground near Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, before assaulting him, police said.

Bozakkaravani faces nine different charges, including four separate hate crime charges.

New York City has seen a jump in hate crimes, including growing anti-Muslim attacks, as tensions remain high in the U.S. amid protests around the Israel-Hamas war.

The total number of bias incidents investigated by the NYPD Hate Crime Task Force last month increased by 124%, the NYPD announced in its citywide crime statistics for October.

The latest war began with an attack by Hamas militants on Oct. 7. Since then, Israel has responded with weeks of attacks in Gaza, killing more than 11,000, according to the Hamas-run Health Ministry.

The city has recorded eight investigations into anti-Muslim crimes – with none reported in the same month last year. New York City has also seen a 214% spike in anti-Jewish incidents compared to October 2022.

SepidehRashnu, a writer and artist who became known in Iran for her vocal opposition to compulsory hijab rules, is in the BBC’s 2023 list of 100 inspiring and influential women from around the world.

Twenty-eight “climate pioneers,” attorney and former US First Lady Michelle Obama, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney and Ballon d'Or-winning footballer AitanaBonmatí were also included in the list revealed by the British broadcaster on November 21.

Rashnu was arrested in July 2022 after an altercation on a bus with a woman who was enforcing the use of head coverings, and was held incommunicado for around two weeks.

State TV aired a program showing her admitting to “encouraging prostitution,” as signs of beating were visible on her face.

Rashnu was charged in August 2022 with “propaganda against the regime” and “promoting corruption and prostitution” before being released on bail.

Earlier this year, Rashnu was arraigned again after sharing online photos of herself without a headscarf.

“She is currently out of prison and continues to defy the compulsory hijab rules,” the BBC said.

An American Muslim went viral on Monday over her response to leftist activist Susan Sarandon.

----------

Last Friday, Sarandon joined pro-Palestinian protesters at a demonstration in New York City. She was captured chanting, "from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free," a Hamas rallying cry that celebrates the extermination of Israel.

Additionally, Sarandon appeared to celebrate the rise of anti-Semitism in America while minimizing the Muslim experience by regurgitating the narrative that America is not a safe place for Muslims, the New York Post noted.

"There are a lot of people that are afraid, that are afraid of being Jewish at this time, and are getting a taste of what it feels like to be a Muslim in this country," the actress told her fellow protesters.

But according to AsraNomani — an influential American female Muslim and former journalist — Sarandon could not be more wrong.

"Let me give you 'a taste' of what it 'feels like' to be a Muslim in America," Nomani told Sarandon in response.

First, Nomani began with her dad, who earned a PhD from Rutgers University and eventually was awarded a full professorship at West Virginia University. "That’s what it means to be Muslim in America. You get your full rights," Nomani said.

Second, she turned to her mother. "Being Muslim in America meant she got to live FREE with the wind in her hair," Nomani explained. Being a Muslim in America also meant Nomani's mother could start a business and achieve financial independence, something Muslim women in the Muslim-majority world rarely experience.

For Nomani personally, being an American Muslim meant she could travel without a male chaperone, a rarity in countries where Shariah law is enforced.

"I'm going to fast forward because this is just a 'taste' of what it means to be Muslim in America. In 2002, I fled Pakistan with a souvenir that could have gotten me imprisoned or killed: a baby growing inside of me, a wedding ring not upon my hand. Sharia law makes sex out of marriage a crime in Muslim countries like Pakistan. My body? The mullah's tyranny," Nomani explained. "And even dare to be atheist like [Yasmine Mohammed]? It’s also a crime punishable by death — in Muslim countries but not in America!"

America, according to Nomani, is a safe haven for Muslims, where they get to "enjoy equal rights as Muslim AmeriCANs, not AmeriCANTs."

"This is a 'taste' of life for a Muslim family in America," Nomani said. "Please don’t minimize the experience of Jewish Americans by sanitizing the hell that it is for Muslims living in Muslim countries and vilifying America for the life — and freedoms — she offers Muslims like my family. Go, live like a Muslim woman in a Muslim country. You will come back to America and kiss the land beneath your feet."

In other news, United Talent Agency, one of the premier talent agencies in Hollywood, has reportedly dumped Sarandon as a client over her anti-Jewish remarks.

Iranian Nobel Laureate Mohammadi Again In Hospital, Without Hijab

NOVEMBER 21, 2023

Iranian human rights activist and Nobel Prize laureate NargesMohammadi, who is incarcerated in Tehran’s Evin prison, has been taken for a third time in two weeks to a hospital without a mandatory headscarf.

According to a post on Mohammadi's Instagram account, which is run by her family, the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize winner was “wearing a coat and skirt” during her hospital visit on November 21.

For several weeks, Mohammadi required medical attention outside the prison but was denied a transfer due to her refusal to wear a hijab. In response, she embarked on a hunger strike on November 6.

Medical tests conducted two days later revealed critical health concerns, including the blockage of two heart arteries and severe complications.

Mohammadi was brought back to a hospital on November 16 to undergo an angiography, a type of X-ray used to check blood vessels.

She was taken back to prison after the three hospital visits.

Mohammadi was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize last month for keeping up her fight against the “oppression of women” in her country despite numerous arrests and spending years behind bars.

After uproar, NY state senator fires staffer who endorsed Oct. 7 Hamas onslaught

22nd November 2023

New York Jewish Week via JTA — New York State Senator Julia Salazar fired a staffer who endorsed the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel.

The decision came Monday morning, according to the Albany Times Union, after Salazar had distanced herself from the comments by Sarah Campbell, her communications and policy director.

According to screenshots published by the New York Post on Saturday, Campbell wrote the phrase “by any means necessary” on her personal account on X, formerly known as Twitter, on October 7. The phrase is seen as justifying Hamas’ violence and has been used by protest groups in New York that celebrated the attack and that call for Israel’s destruction.

More than a month later, on November 12, Campbell posted, “I don’t condemn Hamas, I condemn Israel. Who has reigned more terror: Hamas in the entirety of their existence, or Israel in just the last 30 days?”

The screenshot of the November 12 post showed that her account had been made private, so that only approved followers could see her posts. The account has since been deleted.

Salazar’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

After the posts surfaced, Salazar addressed the report in a post on X, writing that her staffer posted the comments to her “personal, locked social media account without my knowledge.”

“Her personal thoughts are not mine, and do not reflect me or my office in any way at all,” Salazar wrote. “I’m not going to allow anyone to wrongly pin another person’s reckless and completely unacceptable words onto me or my office.”

The Post also reported that Isabel Anreus, Salazar’s chief of staff, liked an October 7 post that said, “The stuff happening in Palestine really cheers me up.” During the attack, Hamas terrorists slaughtered approximately 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and took more than 200 people captive. Anreus’ account is also now private.

Salazar, a Democrat who represents north Brooklyn, was elected to the State Senate as a member of the Democratic Socialists of America in 2018. The group’s New York City branch came under fire for endorsing a rally held in Times Square on October 8, before Israel had fully launched its counteroffensive in Gaza, that backed the Palestinian “right to resist.”

Salazar has repeatedly called for a ceasefire and criticized Israeli strikes on Gaza since the beginning of the war, and also condemned the Hamas attack and has demanded the release of hostages held by Hamas.
