GUJRANWALA – In yet another example of love beyond
borders, an American gynaecologist travelled all the way from the United States
to find her love in the ‘city of wrestlers’ in Pakistan that is quite famous
for its food.
Reports in local media said a woman named Meg, who
works as a gynaecologist at a state-run medical facility in Chicago, converted
to Islam after being inspired by the Islamic teachings of her Pakistani lover.
The lovebirds started off as friends on a social site
and decided to get hitched when Meg visited Pakistan. Dr. Meg reportedly
converted to Islam at the hands of Hafiz Muhammad Ashraf Raza Qadri, and she
was given the Islamic name Haniya.
The newlywed is all praise for Pakistanis who
according to her are loving and cheerful people. Haniya also expressed pleasure
after meeting her in-laws, saying they are all very lovely people.
The Pakistani-American couple soon became the talk of
the town and people on social media are wishing them all the best for their
lives ahead.
Last year, an 83-year-old woman travelled all the way
from the Central European country of Poland to meet her 28-year-old lover who
was an auto mechanic in Hafizabad.

Feminist collective
deploys banner and smoke bombs on Cannes red carpet – video

22 May 2022
Protests about women’s safety have taken place at the
Cannes film festival for the second time in a matter of days, after a group
invaded the red carpet at a premiere of a film about the killing of sex
workers.
About 12 women went on to the red carpet before the
screening of Holy Spider, carrying a banner with the first names of 129 women
killed in France since the last time the festival was held.
The group, dressed in black, also set off black smoke
grenades as they paused on steps in front of the Palais des Festivals.
According to Agence France-Presse, the group are members of the feminist group
Les Colleuses.
Security did not attempt to stop the protest as the
activists posed for photographs and were videoed. The award-winning French
documentary maker Raymond Depardon could be seen taking photos.
The demonstration took place before the actors and
others involved with Holy Spider had arrived. In the film, directed by the
Iranian-born Ali Abbasi, a female investigative journalist looks into the
serial killing of sex workers in the Iranian holy city of Mashhad. The “Spider
Killer” is behind the murders, believing he is clearing the streets of sinners.
It is based on the real life story of Saeed Hanaei,
who killed at least 16 women. He became a hero to some Islamist militants, a
scenario mirrored in Holy Spider.
On Friday a protester stormed the red carpet before
the world premiere of George Miller’s film Three Thousand Years of Longing,
demonstrating against sexual violence by Russian forces in Ukraine.
She stripped off her gown to reveal the words “stop
raping us” written in English on her stomach, against a backdrop of the colours
of the Ukrainian flag. She also shouted the message. Her waist and legs were
covered in red painted handprints.
The woman is part of the French group Scum, which
describes themselves as “radical feminist activists”.
Four years ago dozens of female actors protested against
gender discrimination in the film industry.
The festival, one of the main dates in the cinema
calendar, is running until 28 May and is the first to return to full spectator
capacity after the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Saudi Woman Discovers She Is Male 20 Years after
Birth; Male Private Parts Hidden Inside the Abdomen
May 20, 2022
Tawfiq Nasrallah
Dubai: A young Saudi woman was shocked to discover
that she is a male, 20 years after birth due to a 'medical error,' Saudi media
reported.
According to Al Ekhbariya TV, the Saudi citizen did
not know that she had male private parts hidden inside the abdomen.

At the time of his birth in a government hospital in
Riyadh, she had some deformities in the genital area. However, the doctors
thought that the baby was female and the family named the newborn as Randa.
As she was growing, Randa grew suspicious when she did
not develop any signs of female puberty like her peers. When she went to a
hospital for a thorough check-up, she was shocked to know that her male
genitalia were hidden in the abdomen.
“In the beginning, it was a completely a strange
feeling, as if they were lying to me. It was illogical to me as if I had gone
back to square one in my life. A new name, a new identity, no friends, no
relatives,” Randa said.
“Now, I’m supposed to undergo a surgery to take out
the hidden genitals. A doctor recommended that I have to travel to the UK for
the operation. But the authorities concerned rejected my travel papers,” Randa
added.
According to Al Ekhbariya TV, Randa's family filed a
complaint to the former Saudi Health Minister but no action has been taken. The
victim’s father said that he tried to contact the hospital where Randa was born
but to no avail.

Ex-Afghan Prez Karzai decries Taliban’s all-covering
burqa decree
22 May, 2022
Kabul [Afghanistan], May 22 (ANI): Former Afghan
President Hamid Karzai, in an exclusive interview with CNN, slammed Taliban’s
recent decree to ask women to cover their faces, saying Burqa is not an Afghan
tradition.
While criticizing the Taliban’s directive, he said
that the covering of the face by Muslim women isn’t Hijab but a tradition in
some countries. He added that Afghanistan has been a Muslim country for 1400
years, but covering the face of Muslim women is not a tradition in the country,
reported ToloNews.
When asked if the new decision of the Islamic Emirate
regarding covering the faces of female presenters on TV should be obeyed, he
responded saying, “No, they shouldn’t, because that has got nothing to do with
Hijab – that has got nothing to do with Afghan culture either.”
“They should not obey this. The Taliban leadership
must rescind this decision, whoever made this decision. It hurts Afghanistan,
it hurts Afghanistan’s reputation, and it is not Afghan at all,” he added.
Karzai also condemned the Islamic Emirate’s decision
to ban female students in grades 7-12 and said that the Afghan people will
never accept the decision to ban girls from going to school.
The issue of girls’ education is fundamental to the
dignity of Afghanistan. Karzai said that the Afghan people will never accept
such decisions.
According to Karzai, the “unfortunate” decision about
the ban on girls’ schools “hurt Afghanistan deeply”.
The former president has also voiced his concerns
about the plight of Afghan women and girls earlier as well.
The situation of human rights in Afghanistan has also
worsened since the collapse of the Afghan government and the Taliban’s return
to power in August last year.
Although the fighting in the country has ended,
serious human rights violations continue unabated. (ANI)

Shoura members propose equal blood money for men and
women, Muslim and non-Muslim
May 22, 2022
RIYADH — Some members of the Shoura Council have
recommended adding a new paragraph to the draft Civil Transactions Law to
prohibit discrimination in the amount of compensation for a crime between a
woman and man, and a Muslim and non-Muslim, Okaz/Saudi Gazette has learnt from
well-informed sources.
The Shoura members — Latifa Al-Shaalan, Faisal Al-Fadel,
and Atta Al-Subaiti — have made the recommendation to add a new paragraph to
Article 138 of the draft Civil Transactions Law, which is currently being
studied in the Shoura Council.
The proposed amendment in the draft law will be as
follows: “It is prohibited to show discrimination in the amount of compensation
in a felony against a person on the basis of gender, religion, or any other
forms of discrimination.”
It is noteworthy that the Civil Transactions Law,
which is yet to be enacted, is one of the four key legislations, about which
announcement was made by Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman in February 2021.
He had said then that these laws are being introduced
as part of the government’s landmark measures to reform judicial institutions
as well as to improve the legislative environment in the Kingdom.
The Crown Prince noted that the new laws — the
Personal Status Law, the Civil Transactions Law, the Penal Code for
Discretionary Sanctions, and the Law of Evidence — would represent a new wave
of judicial reforms in the Kingdom.
Later, the Council of Ministers approved the Personal
Status Law, which regulates issues related to engagement, marriage, divorce and
children's custody, and the Law of Evidence.
In their justifications for the recommendation, the
Shoura Council members indicated that there is discrepancy in the judicial
provisions vis-a-vis the assessment of blood money between a man and woman and
between a Muslim and non-Muslim, unlike the other Arab and Islamic countries
and the rest of the countries of the world.
The Shoura members justified their recommendation,
saying that this is based on an analysis of the current situation and
clarification of the issues related to implementation of laws.
These issues include the independent reasoning (ijtihad)
followed by the Islamic jurists that led to discrimination in the assessment of
blood money between man and woman and between Muslims and others, they said
while noting that these are not appropriate for the present day world.
The Shoura members emphasized that their
recommendation contributes to empowering women and promoting human rights and
the values of tolerance, moderation and quality of life, as it is in line with
international conventions and charters to which the Kingdom has accession.
They said that this would further improve the position
of Saudi Arabia in general, and the Saudi judiciary in particular, at the
international level, and at the relevant UN indices.
The members noted that what is mentioned in the Holy
Qur’an regarding blood money is one absolute verse that does not show any
difference between men and women.
The Almighty God is saying in the Qur’an: “And never
is it for a believer to kill a believer except by mistake. And whoever kills a
believer by mistake — then the freeing of a believing slave and a compensation
payment (diyah) presented to his family, unless they give (up their right as)
charity.
“But if he was from a people at war with you and he
was a believer — then (only) the freeing of a believing slave; and if he was from
a people with whom you have a treaty — then a compensation payment presented to
his family and the freeing of a believing slave.
“And whoever does not find (one or cannot afford to
buy one) — then (instead), a fast for two months consecutively, (seeking)
acceptance of repentance from Allah, and Allah is ever Knowing and Wise.”
The Shoura members also emphasized that the opinion
that the blood money of a woman is the same as that of a man in Islam is backed
by a number of contemporary religious scholars, including Sheikh Muhammad
Al-Ghazali.
“The act of the people of Hadith to consider the blood
money of a woman to half of the blood money of a man is an intellectual and
moral evil that was rejected by jurists. The blood money prescribed by the Holy
Qur’an for man and woman is the same,” he said.
The blood money prescribed in the Qur’an is the same
for a man and woman, and the claim that a woman’s blood is cheaper and her
right is inferior is a false claim that contradicts the apparent meaning of the
holy book.
The killing of a man by a woman is the same just as
the killing of a woman by a man and hence the blood of the woman and the blood
of the man are the same, so what makes the blood money of a woman below that of
a man? he asked.
Sheikh Mahmoud Shaltout and several other scholars and
researchers are also of the same view. They all emphasized that there is no
reference to any halving of the blood money as the Qur’anic verse made the
blood money absolute and not specific to man or woman, and the word blood money
in the Qur’anic verse is not restricted to any specific gender of men or women.
There is also no authentic Hadith that indicates the halving of the blood money
of a woman.
The Shoura members pointed out that a number of
contemporary religious scholars have gone to the opinion of equality in blood
money between a Muslim and non-Muslim. They cited the fatwa (religious edict)
by Sheikh Abdullah Al-Mahmoud, while replying to queries of a person with
regard to equality in blood money between Muslims and others.
The fatwa drew attention to the directive issued by
the fourth Caliph of Islam Ali Bin Abi Talib who ruled to make the blood money
of the People of Book (Jews and Christians) like the blood money of a Muslim as
they enjoy safety and security within the country from the ruler.
“So a non-Muslim deserves equality with a Muslim in
the blood money, and this is what we judge by and believe in its correctness.
That is why the pagans, and people of the Book are equal with Muslims in terms
of blood money,” Sheikh Abdullah ruled.
