Miracles of Quran: Testimony from Science

8th stage: Greek philosopher Plato had the view that this world is a mirage. It does not have a solid existence. The physical world does not have any existence of its own. In his view, the real world is situated somewhere up there and this planet is only a shadow of that real world. Every event actually takes place in that real world. Plato’s ideas became the essence of the mysticism of the Sufis. According to this mysticism, the Prakriti (material world) is merely an illusion and the entire universe is God’s dream. The day God opens his eyes; this dream will come to an end. This universe is a play of God in which nothing appears in its real form but it is only a representation of truth.

The entire Persian and Urdu poetry of us Muslims is based on this philosophy. In Arabic poetry, Ibn al Faraz promoted it but it could not get wide acceptance. Quran has rejected this false theory and condemned it because due to this false philosophy or theory, the universe and its scientific investigations do not have any importance in the eyes of the nation and thus the nation became dishonoured and disrespected. After accepting this theory, one forms a very negative attitude towards the universe. Disputing the theory the Quran said:

“Whatever exists in the heavens and earth and between them we have not created them in vain. Those who have this belief are Kafirs”. (38:37)

Quran reiterates its stand on another occasion and7 says:

“God created the heavens and earth on truth. Indeed there are signs in them for those who believe.”(29:44)

Through these verses, the Quran repudiated the beliefs of the Greeks and the Hindus that this universe has been created by God as a play. Another verse says:

“We did not create the sky and the earth as a mere play; We have created them on truth but many of them do not know.”(44:38,39)

We would like to say to our readers that Quran’s claim in the Arab society that the universe has been created on truth was a big challenge to the entire world. At that time there was no one to second Quran’s claim and this is a testimony of Quran’s divinity. You can tell the entire world that nowhere in the literature of the world the view has been expressed that this universe has not been created as a play or illusion and that it really exists. Only the Quran says this.

9th stage: In Surah Shura, God says:

“And of His signs is the creation of the heavens and earth and what He has dispersed throughout them of creatures. And He, for gathering them when He wills, is competent.  “(42:29)

In Hawashi Usmani, it is written that “It is obvious from the verse that like on the earth, living beings also exist in the skies”. Maulana Usmani was a great religious scholar. He did not have modern or scientific knowledge. Moreover, he wrote this note about 125 years ago when science had not progressed much. That’s why he could not grasp the meaning of this verse. But the meaning of the verse is so self evident that even he had to accept that living beings exist on other planets of the universe too. In a modern exegesis, Tafhim ul Quran, this truth has been recognised more clearly. It says, “This means that both on the earth and sky. This is a clear indication that life is found not only on the earth but on other planets as well.” This is a vital point that the Quran stated 14 hundred years ago. In that age, no one except God’s revelation could say this. The next part of the verse is all the more surprising when you ponder over it. It says, “He has the power to gather them if He wills.”(42:29)

God is great. The verse does not only express the possibility of contact between the creatures of different planets but also hints that God may arrange a meeting between them whenever He wills. The scientists of our planet have been trying to go to other planets. It is also possible to listen to the TV news one morning telling us of the visit of aliens from another planet on earth. First, we would be curious to know how they look like. Secondly, we will wish that they are Muslims so that they can help us. However, Quran promises that the creatures on different planets will be meeting each other. The day the creatures of different planets start interacting, this Mutashabah verse will become a Muhkam one and will testify to the authenticity of the Quran.

10th stage: God says:

“We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth. But is it not sufficient concerning your Lord that He is, over all things, a Witness? “ (41:53)

Please read this verse and then read the whole Quran. To justify its claim, the Quran says that whenever a curtain is raised from some secret of the universe and the truth comes out, it will testify to one of the claims made by the Quran. Quran has made a vital claim.  Such a vital claim cannot be made by anyone no matter how great a scientist he may be. Quran says;

“We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth. But is it not sufficient concerning your Lord that He is, over all things, a Witness? “(41:53)

As a proof the Quran says that everything is in the eyes of God. Can anything then remain concealed from his eyes. Never. This is an irrefutable argument.  You did not know this truth because it was not before your eyes. God can say what is not in the knowledge of people because it is not concealed from Him. It is only concealed from our eyes. When God said that creatures are present in other planets, he had said because he had seen them. This is a testimony and this is the nature of God’s testimony. When Quran said that creatures are present in other planets and when the science also testified to the truth, it testified to Quran’s claim that it was a divine revelation. This truth was concealed from our eyes but God was seeing it and had disclosed the truth in the Quran.
