Indian Muslim’s permanent grievance with the government and the Police administration is that their children are arrested and imprisoned. According to Sachar Committee report the number of Muslims in different jails is more than the percentage of their population: Muslims constitute 13.4 percent of the total Indian population.
According to a website ‘Mideast’ there are 102.652 lakh Muslims in different jails of India. In Maharashtra Muslims are 10.6 percent of the population, in Gujarat 9.06 percent, in Assam 30.09 percent, in Karnataka 12. 23 percent and in the jails of these states they are 32.4 percent, 25 percent, 28.1 percent and 17.5 percent respectively. Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh did not provide the required figures to the Sachar Committee.
In an Urdu newspaper, “Saiyasi Taqudeer” published from New Delhi a column “Khabron ki Khabar” published a news item: “Mulayam Ji, Why Muslims are more than the ratio of their population in your jails?” Muslims often complain that the government and the police administration are conspiring against them. I used to live in the Muslim ghettos of Bihar, UP, Rajasthan and Delhi etc and used to see Muslims fighting among themselves. They used to kill each other. There were Muslims of all hues and colours among them: so-called educated (products of schools, colleges and even big famous madrasas), illiterate, bearded and clean shaven Muslims. Exasperated at their fights, somebody used to call the police. Police used to come, control the situation before it getting worse and arrested both the parties. This is how a big part of the population reached the jails. There may be some innocent people too among them but it is not that all are innocent and a victim of police and state government conspiracy.
Muslims social and cultural downfall has reached such an extent that if you ever tried to make a compromise among the two fighting groups you will fail because none of the parties will listen to you. Not only this, even if you have the ability of calling their ancestors from their graves to plead with them to maintain peace, they will not listen to them either and will reject them as Jews used to reject the judgements of their Prophets.
Muslims are completely destroying their next generation by playing into the hands of ‘conspiracy theorists’. We can use this theory but only at the cost of our coming generations’ destruction and failure on all fronts. Harping on the ‘Police conspiracy’ theory means not paying any attention to our younger generation’s lack of culture and ethics. If it happened it will take us hundred years back from the present day society. We must understand that the government does not have the facility of arresting all our children and keeping them in jails. It does not have so many prisons, feeding arrangement and security management. It will be government’s responsibility to feed all the 18 crore Muslims, if kept in jail which it is not going to do. History is witness that no government has ever tried to make it safe by arresting the whole community and keeping them in jail. Even Pharoahs could not do this.
Rather than accusing the government and the administration, iIt is better to pay attention to the education and etiquettes of our children and try to reform them. Muslims should try to make their children better individuals. Better individuals are needed for a better community. As far as Muslims are concerned every one of them takes himself to be a Laloo Prasad and Nitish Kumar. Missile man, Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam has written in his book, ‘The Turning Point’ that once when he was on his Bihar visit both Laloo Prasad and Nitish Kumar came to receive him on the station and surprisingly both were looking in different directions. He made both the leaders shake hand. Difference of opinion is a natural instinct but then compromise also is a natural attitude. But as far as Muslims are concerned they have one natural instinct in them and lack in the other one.
I am not writing these things for my benefit. I am writing this because Islam teaches us to talk in a straightforward manner. Quran says: “O you, who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice. He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment.” (Al-Ahzab 70-71).
We must understand that no government in this world is permanent. Governments will keep coming and going. Hence it is not possible for any government to target any particular community forever.
Muslims need to leave the ‘conspiracy theory’ mindset and start preparing themselves for the coming days. Future always, by the grace of God carries better opportunities for communities. Muslims must create leadership qualities in them. They should be a community which contributes something to the society. They must concentrate on education. They should read themselves and teach their children. They should change their houses into libraries and laboratories. They must obtain light of life, hope and power from the holy book, the Quran.
