This is the concluding article of the series and I will try to give the readers as much information as possible, without going into the details.
Sir Francis Drake shocked the world when he sailed round the earth in 1597, proving that the earth is not flat. Ponder over the following Quranic verses proving that the earth is not flat 1:
“Seest thou not that Allah merges Night into Day and He merges Day into Night?” [Al-Qur’an 31:29]
“He created the heavens and the earth in true (proportions): He makes the Night overlap the Day, and the Day overlap the Night.” [Al-Qur’an 39:5]
This merging and overlapping can only take place if the earth is spherical. If the earth had been flat, then there would have been a sudden change from day into night and night into day. In the second verse, the Arabic word used is ‘kawwara’ which means to coil. But if somebody will say that the Quranic assumption is too much, then how about this verse?:
“And the earth, moreover, hath He made egg shaped.” [Al-Qur’an 79:30] 2
I know some may say that the Quran says that the earth is flat and they quote “the earth is spread out like a carpet”. And they conclude that the earth is flat. Firstly it is not a must that carpets can be spread only on flat surfaces; secondly, the Quran says that “He has spread out the earth like a carpet so that you may go about therein by roads and channels”. The other verses also say that “He has spread out the earth and He has set thereon mountains standing firm”. We know from geology that the earth’s crust is very thin and the crust is underlain by the mantle, and that it occupies less than 1% of Earth’s volume. The rest of it is mantle and core. The reason of spreading out of carpet is to enable the people to walk comfortably and that is what the crust does. The earth’s crust is like a carpet, and the earth is indeed spread out.
The Quran says the moon has reflected light.
“Blessed is He Who made Constellations in the skies, and placed therein a Lamp and a Moon having borrowed light.” [Al-Qur’an 25:61]
The Arabic word used here for moon is ‘qamar’ and it is described in the Qur’an as ‘muneer’ which is a body that gives ‘noor’ i.e. reflected light.
The Quran says: “The Unbelievers say, ‘Never to us will come The Hour’: say, ‘Nay! but most surely, by my Lord, it will come upon you – by Him Who knows the unseen – from Whom is not hidden the least little atom in the Heavens or on earth: nor is there anything less than that, or greater, but is in the Record Perspicuous.’” [Al-Qur’an 34:3]
Earlier it was widely believed that the smallest unit in the whole universe is atom (though many had different views also); but the Quran says that there are things smaller than atom. And we know from the advancement of physics that indeed atom is not the smallest unit. 3, 4
The Quran says:
“There is not an animal (that lives) on the earth, nor a being that flies on its wings, but (forms part of) communities like you.” [Al-Qur’an 6:38] 5, 6
“And before Solomon were marshalled his hosts – of Jinns and men and birds, and they were all kept in order and ranks. “At length, when they came to a (lowly) valley of ants, one of the ants said : ‘O ye ants, get into your habitations, lest Solomon and his hosts crush you (under foot) without knowing it.’” [Al-Qur’an 27:17-18]
Today science tells us that ants have an advanced communication system. 7, 8
Regarding the production of milk, the Quranic description matches fully with the modern physiology: 9, 10, 11
“And verily in cattle there is a lesson for you. We give you to drink of what is inside their bodies, coming from a conjunction between the contents of the intestine and the blood, a milk pure and pleasant for those who drink it.” [Al-Qur’an 16:66]
“And in cattle (too) ye have an instructive example: from within their bodies We produce (milk) for you to drink; there are, in them, (besides), numerous (other) benefits for you; and of their (meat) ye eat.” [Al-Qur’an 23:21]
This I believe is an astonishing verse:
“Does man think that We cannot assemble his bones? Nay, We are able to put together in perfect order the very tips of his fingers.” [Al-Qur’an 75:3-4]
Now we know why Allah emphasises on the “tips of his fingers”: every individual is unique, and according to finger-printing method we know that no two persons’ finger prints are the same 12. How could Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) know about these things in the deserts?
I end this series with this verse of the Glorious Quran and this verse alone was sufficient for Prof. Tagatat Tejasen, Chairman of the Department of Anatomy at Chiang Mai University in Thailand, to accept that the Quran is a divine book and Muhammad (pbuh) has to be God’s prophet. The verse is:
“Those who reject our signs, We shall soon cast into the Fire; as often as their skins are roasted through, We shall change them for fresh skins, that they may taste the pain (Penalty): for Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise.” [Al-Qur’an 4:56]
The scientific miracle in the verse is this: earlier it was believed that only the brain was responsible for pain but recent scientific discoveries proved that there are pain receptors in the skin as well.13, 14
“Is it not sufficient for them that We have revealed the Book to you which is read out to them? It is indeed a grace and reminder for people who believe.” (29: 51)
The Quran tells us regarding the disbelievers’ psychology, that they will not believe never mind what miracles you tell them, they will continue to disbelieve, they will continue to go to anti-Islamic sites and that is why they have developed a negative bias. If only they had read the Quran without bias their eyes would have “seen” the truth.
“They said: “No matter what kind of sign you show us, to bewitch us, we will not believe in you.” 7: 132
It is mentioned in one of the sayings of the prophet that when the verses were revealed, the disbelievers “made noise” and claimed that “these are tales of the ancients”; today also we see the same trend. Since they cannot point out a single error, they make noise, they deviate from the topic, and they conclude that Muhammad must have been a very intelligent man or a liar, or a crazy man.
The only religious book which has a falsification test is the Quran. The Quran openly challenges anyone to point out a single error in it. If you could do it then the Quran would be proved wrong.
"Do they not consider the Qur'an? Had it been from any other than Allah, they would surely have found therein much discrepancy."
This is the standing challenge, yet nobody has come up with a real error or discrepancy in the Quran. On the internet, we find so many alleged “errors” and “contradictions” in the Quran but none (as far as I have read in my research) are right in my humble opinion.
The other standing challenge is to produce something like the Quran. When the pagans alleged that Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) had committed forgery and thus produced the Qur'an, the Qur’an immediately challenged them and offered them a falsification test.
“Say : “If mankind and the Jinns gathered in order to produce the like of this Qur’an, they could not produce the like of it, even if they were to each other assistants." (17:88)
Then the challenge is made easier: “Or do they say, "He invented it?" Say, "Then bring ten Surahs like it that have been invented and call upon (for assistance) whoever you can besides Allah, if you should be truthful.” (11:13)
Then again the challenge is made easier still: “Or do they say, “He invented it ? " Say: “Then bring forth a Surah like it, and call upon (for assistance) whoever you can besides Allah, if you should be truthful." (10:38)
And finally the Quran makes the challenge very easy, the easiest of all: “And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down (i.e. the Qur'an) upon our servant, then produce a Surah like thereof and call upon your witnesses (i.e. supporters) other than Allah, if you should be truthful. But if you do not - and you will never be able to - then fear the Fire, whose fuel is men and stones, prepared for the disbelievers.” (2:23-24)
