PART 3 11. DEVOTION 20. An Exhortation For Prayer 86. Seven Instructions

74|1|O thou shrouded in thy mantle,

74|2|arise, and warn!

74|3|Thy Lord magnify

74|4|thy robes purify

74|5|and defilement flee!

74|6|Give not, thinking to gain greater

74|7|and be patient unto thy Lord.

87. Importance of Night for Prayer

73|1|O thou enwrapped in thy robes,

73|2|keep vigil the night, except a little

73|3|(a half of it, or diminish a little,

73|4|or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly;

73|5|Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word;

73|6|surely the first part of the night is heavier in tread, more upright in speech,

73|7|surely in the day thou hast long business.

73|8|And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly.

73|9|Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He; so take Him for a Guardian.

73|10|And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously.

88. Remember The Lord Below Thy Breath

7|204|And when the Koran is recited, give you ear to it and be silent; haply so you will find mercy.

7|205|Remember thy Lord in thy soul, humbly and fearfully, not loud of voice, at morn and eventide. Be not thou among the heedless.

7|206|Surely those who are with thy Lord wax not too proud to serve Him; they chant His praise, and to Him they bow.

89. Say Allah Or Say Rahman

17|110|Say: 'Call upon God, or call upon the Merciful; whichsoever you call upon, to Him belong the Names Most Beautiful.' And be thou not loud in thy prayer, nor hushed therein, but seek thou for a way between that.

90. Ask Forgiveness for Thy Sins

47|19|Know thou therefore that there is no god but God, and ask forgiveness for thy sin, and for the believers, men and women. God knows your going to and fro, and your lodging.

91. Business, Play and Prayer

62|9|O believers, when proclamation is made for prayer on the Day of Congregation, hasten to God's remembrance and leave trafficking aside; that is better for you, did you but know.

62|10|Then, when the prayer is finished, scatter in the land and seek God's bounty, and remember God frequently; haply you will prosper.

62|11|But when they see merchandise or diversion they scatter off to it, and they leave thee standing. Say: 'What is with God is better than diversion and merchandise. God is the best of providers.'

92. Remembrance of God Is More Important Than Prayer

29|45|Recite what has been revealed to thee of the Book, and perform the prayer; prayer forbids indecency and dishonour. God's remembrance is greater; and God knows the things you work.

93. In The Remembrance of God Hearts Do Find Rest

13|28|Those who believe, their hearts being at rest in God's remembrance -- in God's remembrance are at rest the hearts

2. Worship of God by The Whole Creation 94. The Thunder Repeateth His Praises

13|13|the thunder proclaims. His praise, and the angels, in awe of Him. He looses the thunderbolts, and smites with them whomsoever He will; yet they dispute about God, who is mighty in power.

95. The Birds With Their Wings Outspread Praise God

24|41|Hast thou not seen how that whatsoever is in the heavens and in the earth extols God, and the birds spreading their wings? Each -- He knows its prayer and its extolling; and God knows the things they do.

96. The Whole Creation Praise God, But We Do Not Understand Their Praise

17|44|The seven heavens and the earth, and whosoever in them is, extol Him; nothing is, that does not proclaim His praise, but you do not understand their extolling. Surely He is All-clement, All-forgiving.

97. Shadows Play Homepage to Him

13|15|To God bow all who are in the heavens and the earth, willingly or unwillingly, as do their shadows also in the mornings and the evenings.

98. All Creation Pays Obeisance to The Glory of God

16|48|Have they not regarded all things that God has created casting their shadows to the right and to the left, bowing themselves before God in all lowliness?

16|49|To God bows everything in the heavens, and every creature crawling on the earth, and the angels. They have not waxed proud;

16|50|they fear their Lord above them, and they do what they are commanded.

99. All Other Being And Many of Mankind Bow Down in Worship to God

22|18|Hast thou not seen how to God bow all who are in the and all who are in the earth, heavens the sun and the moon, the stars and the mountains, the trees and the beasts, and many of mankind? And many merit the chastisement; and whom God abases, there is none to honour him. God does whatsoever He will.

22.Coviction 100.submission And Faith

49|14|The Bedouins say, 'We believe.' Say: 'You do not believe; rather say, "We surrender"; for belief has not yet entered your hearts. If you obey God and His Messenger, He will not diminish you anything of your works. God is All-forgiving, All-compassionate.'

49|15|The believers are those who believe in God and His Messenger, then have not doubted, and have struggled with their possessions and their selves in the way of God; those -- they are the truthful ones.

101. Faith, Earnest Persuit God’s Will And Good Works Are The Threefold Path

5|96|Permitted to you is the game of the sea and the food of it, as a provision for you and for the journeyers; but forbidden to you is the game of the land, so long as you remain in pilgrim sanctity; and fear God, unto whom you shall be mustered.

102. My Worship, My Sacrifice, My Living And My Dying Are for God

6|162|Say: 'My prayer, my ritual sacrifice, my living, my dying -- all belongs to God, the Lord of all Being.

103. We Take Our Colour From God

2|138|the baptism of God; and who is there that baptizes fairer than God? Him we are serving.

104. Do Not Befriend Your Father And Brother If It Brings Estrangement With Your God

9|23|O believers, take not your fathers and brothers to be your friends, if they prefer unbelief to belief; whosoever of you takes them for friends, those -- they are the evildoers.

9|24|Say: 'If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your wives, your clan, your possessions that you have gained, commerce you fear may slacken, dwellings you love -- if these are dearer to you than God and His Messenger, and to struggle in His way, then wait till God brings His command; God guides not the people of the ungodly.'

105. Blessed Are The Meek for They Are Beloved of God

49|13|O mankind, We have created you male and female, and appointed you races and tribes, that you may know one another. Surely the noblest among you in the sight of God is the most godfearing of you. God is All-knowing, All-aware.

106. Surrender to God’s Will

18|23|And do not say, regarding anything, 'I am going to do that tomorrow,'

18|24|but only, 'If God will'; and mention thy Lord, when thou forgettest, and say, 'It may be that my Lord will guide me unto something nearer to rectitude than this.')

107. Building Founded on Rock And The Building Founded on The Brink of A Crumbling Precipice

9|109|Why, is he better who founded his building upon the fear of God and His good pleasure, or he who founded his building upon the brink of a crumbling bank that has tumbled with him into the fire of Gehenna? And God guides not the people of the evildoers.

23.Sacrifice and Dedication 108. Highest Commerce

61|10|O believers, shall I direct you to a commerce that shall deliver you from a painful chastisement?

61|11|You shall believe in God and His Messenger, and struggle in the way of God with your possessions and your selves. That is better for you, did you but know.

109. The Act of Supreme Blessedness

9|19|Do you reckon the giving of water to pilgrims and the inhabiting of the Holy Mosque as the same as one who believes in God and the Last Day and struggles in the way of God? Not equal are they in God's sight; and God guides not the people of the evildoers.

9|20|Those who believe, and have emigrated, and have struggled in the way of God with their possessions and their selves are mightier in rank with God; and those -- they are the triumphant;

110. The Most Precious Treaasure-trove

3|156|O believers, be not as the unbelievers who say to their brothers, when they journey in the land, or are upon expeditions, 'If they had been with us, they would not have died and not been slain' -- that God may make that an anguish in their hearts. For God gives life, and He makes to die; and God sees the things you do.

3|157|If you are slain or die in God's way, forgiveness and mercy from God are a better thing than that you amass;

3|158|surely if you die or are slain, it is unto God you shall be mustered.

111. Every Place Shall Be Your Refuge

4|100|Whoso emigrates in the way of God will find in the earth many refuges and plenty; whoso goes forth from his house an emigrant to God and His Messenger, and then death overtakes him, his wage shall have fallen on God; surely God is All-forgiving, All-compassionate.

112. Salvation

3|195|And their Lord answers them: 'I waste not the labour of any that labours among you, be you male or female -- the one of you is as the other. And those who emigrated, and were expelled from their habitations, those who suffered hurt in My way, and fought, and were slain -- them I shall surely acquit of their evil deeds, and I shall admit them to gardens underneath which rivers flow.' A reward from God! And God with Him is the fairest reward.

113. Doubly Blessed

4|74|So let them fight in the way of God who sell the present life for the world to come; and whosoever fights in the way of God and is slain, or conquers, We shall bring him a mighty wage.

24. Test and Assurance 114. The Will Surely Be TeSted

29|2|Do the people reckon that they will be left to say 'We believe,' and will not be tried?

29|3|We certainly tried those that were before them, and assuredly God knows those who speak truly, and assuredly He knows the liars.

115. Verily You Will BeTried

47|31|And We shall assuredly try you until We know those of you who struggle and are steadfast, and try your tidings.

116. Want:ABoom for the Faithful

42|27|Had God expanded His provision to His servants, they would have been insolent in the earth; but He sends down in measure whatsoever He will; surely He is aware of and sees His servants.

117. God Is The Guide to Those Who Strive

29|69|But those who struggle in Our cause, surely We shall guide them in Our ways; and God is with the good-doers.

118. God’s Pledge to Help The Faithful

37|171|Already Our Word has preceded to Our servants, the Envoys;

37|172|assuredly they shall be helped,

119. God Helps Those that Helps A Good Cause

47|7|O believers, if you help God, He will help you, and confirm your feet.

120. God Is Near

2|186|And when My servants question thee concerning Me -- I am near to answer the call of the caller, when he calls to Me; so let them respond to Me, and let them believe in Me; haply so they will go aright.

121. God Gives The Light Inner  Light of Discrimination Between Right And Wrong

8|29|O believers, if you fear God, He will assign you a salvation, and acquit you of your evil deeds, and forgive you; and God is of bounty abounding.

122. The Assurance of His Grace And Compassion

48|4|It is He who sent down the Shechina (tranquillity) into the hearts of the believers, that they might add faith to their faith -- to God belong the hosts of the heavens and the earth; God is All-knowing, All-wise --

123. You Shall Be Shaved

10|103|Then We shall deliver Our Messengers and the believers. Even so, as is Our bounden duty, We shall deliver the believers.

25. Patience 124.”Do Not Lose Patience, I Will Show You My Signs

21|37|Man was created of haste. Assuredly I shall show you My signs; so demand not that I make haste.

125. Be Patience

70|4|To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years.

70|5|So be thou patient with a sweet patience;

126.  constantly Unfolding

84|16|No! I swear by the twilight

84|19|you shall surely ride stage after stage.

xii. C0MPANY OF THE RIGHTEOUS 26. Company of the Righteous 127. Will Gain Company of the Great

4|69|Whosoever obeys God, and the Messenger -- they are with those whom God has blessed, Prophets, just men, martyrs, the righteous; good companions they!

4|70|That is the bounty from God; God suffices as One who knows.

128. Keep Thyself Linked With The Good

18|28|And restrain thyself with those who call upon their Lord at morning and evening, desiring His countenance, and let not thine eyes turn away from them, desiring the adornment of the present life; and obey not him whose heart We have made neglectful of Our remembrance so that he follows his own lust, and his affair has become all excess.

129. The Method of Guidance by The Preceptor

18|65|Then they found one of Our servants unto whom We had given mercy from Us, and We had taught him knowledge proceeding from Us.

18|70|Said he, 'Then if thou followest me, question me not on anything until I myself introduce the mention of it to thee.'

130. Some of The Faithful Shall Elect to Stay Behind for Deeper  Insights in Reality

9|122|It is not for the believers to go forth totally; but why should not a party of every section of them go forth, to become learned in religion, and to warn their people when they return to them, that haply they may beware?

131. Form into A Community of The Righteous

3|102|O believers, fear God as He should be feared, and see you do not die, save in surrender.

3|104|Let there be one nation of you, calling to good, and bidding to honour, and forbidding dishonour; those are the prosperers.

132. Bird And Cattle Also Have Their Communities Even As Man

6|38|No creature is there crawling on the earth, no bird flying with its wings, but they are nations like unto yourselves. We have neglected nothing in the Book; then to their Lord they shall be mustered.

XIII. NON-ATTACHMENT 27. The Cognition of Manifested Existence As Transient 133. The Devastated Garden

10|24|The likeness of this present life is as water that We send down out of heaven, and the plants of the earth mingle with it whereof men and cattle eat, till, when the earth has taken on its glitter and has decked itself fair, and its inhabitants think they have power over it, Our command comes upon it by night or day, and We make it stubble, as though yesterday it flourished not. Even so We distinguish the signs for a people who reflect.

134. Blight On The Harvest

3|117|The likeness of that they expend in this present life is as the likeness of a freezing blast that smites the tillage of a people who wronged themselves, and it destroyed that; God wronged them not, but themselves they wronged.

135. Manifested Existence Is Transitory

18|45|And strike for them the similitude of the present life: it is as water that We send down out of heaven, and the plants of the earth mingle with it; and in the morning it is straw the winds scatter; and God is omnipotent over everything.

18|46|Wealth and sons are the adornment of the present world; but the abiding things, the deeds of righteousness, are better with God in reward, and better in hope.

136. The Pleasing Show of The World Is A Test

18|7|We have appointed all that is on the earth for an adornment for it, and that We may try which of them is fairest in works;

137. Nobody is immortal

21|34|We have not assigned to any mortal before thee to live forever; therefore, if thou diest, will they live forever?

21|35|Every soul shall taste of death; and We try you with evil and good for a testing, then unto Us you shall be returned.

138. Are You Secure?

26|146|Will you be left secure in this here,

26|149|Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains?

139. Worldly Life Is but A Passing Play Of A Day

29|64|This present life is naught but a diversion and a sport; surely the Last Abode is Life, did they but know.

140. Sense Objects Which Awaken Desires

3|14|Decked out fair to men is the love of lusts -- women, children, heaped-up heaps of gold and silver, horses of mark, cattle and tillage. That is the enjoyment of the present life; but God -- with Him is the fairest resort.

28. Dispassion 141. Covet Not Luxury

20|131|Stretch not thine eyes to that We have given pairs of them to enjoy - the flower of the present life, that We may try them therein and thy Lord's provision is better, and more enduring.

142. Perhaps Wives And Children May Be Enemies in Disguise

64|13|God -- there is no god but He. And in God let the believers put their trust.

64|14|O believers, among your wives and children there is an enemy to you; so beware of them. But if you pardon, and overlook, and if you forgive, surely God is All-forgiving, All-compassionate.

143. Be Selfish

64|15|Your wealth and your children are only a trial; and with God is a mighty wage.

64|16|So fear God as far as you are able, and give ear, and obey, and expend well for yourselves. And whosoever is guarded against the avarice of his own soul, those -- they are the prosperers.

144. Beware of The Devil

35|5|O men, God's promise is true; so let not the present life delude you, and let not the Deluder delude you concerning God.

35|6|Surely Satan is an enemy to you; so take him for an enemy. He calls his party only that they may be among the inhabitants of the Blaze.

145. Harvest of This World And Also of The Hereafter

42|20|Whoso desires the tillage of the world to come, We shall give him increase in his tillage; and whoso desires the tillage of this world, We shall give him of it, but in the world to come he will have no share.

  • How sad! No Muslim commentator leaves any comment on this series despite their immense significance - a Hindu saint spending some 25 years to dig into the essence of the Qur'an for the benefit of the Muslims and humanity. The Muslim scholarship is locked in all sorts of theological arguments but continue to fit Allama Iqbal's poetic adage-

    -         'phul ki patti se kat sakta hai heere ka jigar - marde nadan par kalame narm o nazuk be asar' [“The petal of flower may pierce the heart of the diamond – but the Noble Words have no effect on the ignorant.”]
