I'm not
surprised to read in newspapers that many expectant mothers have requested for
caesarean section deliveries on January 22, coinciding with the consecration
ceremony at the Ram temple in Ayodhya, news reports doctors said. Dr Seema
Dwivedi, from the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department at Ganesh Shankar
Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College in Kanpur, told Press Trust of India that
they received written requests for 12 to 14 caesarean deliveries and are preparing
for 35 such operations on that day. The family members of the expectant
mothers, regardless of their due dates, consider January 22 as an
"auspicious" day due to the consecration ceremony of Ram Lalla's idol
at Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
This is not
surprising in a religiously superstitious country like India. First of all,
there's no such thing as a lucky or auspicious moment, day, date, month or
year. Every moment is a good and favourable moment. Even if certain dates and occasions do
matter, those moments must be normal and natural.
According
to Bhrigu Samhita (a book / treatise on Astrology and Natal Charts, believed to
have the horoscopes of all individuals in the world!): Prakriti Paravadante,
Kadapi Na Balpoorvak Sarvante (only those things that happen in a normal
and natural course do matter, their forced happening cannot yield the desired
results). Caesarean delivery is a forced happening just to align with the
'auspicious' occasion of the inauguration of Ram Temple.
Moreover,
women in all faiths are genetically programmed to believe in all sorts of
religious garbage. I read in a couple of Hindi dailies that the mother of one
of the executed convicts in Nirbhaya case, Vinay Sharma, was convinced that her
son would eventually be able to cheat the gallows as Pandit ji told her that he
was born on a lucky day and at a lucky moment and the day he was born on, a
couple of planets aligned in a very lucky and rare manner. Alack, that 'lucky'
guy was hanged to death at the prime of his youth (26) on March 20, 2020!
This is the
'power' and 'accuracy' of astrology and the 'relevance' of so-called lucky
dates. Marathas consulted 'soothsayers' before the battle of Panipat on Jan 14,
1761. Durranis under Ahmad Shah Abdali from Afghanistan had no faith in such mumbo-jumbo.
What happened next ? The Maratha Confederacy lost all suzerainty north of the
Sutlej River in Punjab to the Durrani Empire.
It's time
to think rationally but who will drill sense and reason into the skulls of
these primitive people and even if you succeed in drilling a smidgen of sense,
it'll go in vain because their skulls are devoid of brains! In a country where
a serving chief justice makes public visits to temples and gives interviews
about it, you cannot expect rational behaviour from the commoners (Ramachandra Guha: The Chief Justice
and the Father of the Nation). Jai Sri Ram!
