Having written extensively against terrorism falsely claimed in Islam’s name, I feel both deeply saddened and enraged to respond yet again to a heinous attack—this time in Pahalgam, targeting innocent tourists.
My sadness springs from a number of factors that render this massacre most horrible, most loathsome, most inhuman, and most communally and politically motivated. Without adding any pejorative adjective to this deeply alarming show-casing of this terror attack, let me come straight to the calculated move of conspiracy, hypocrisy, brutality and terror – not merely to condemn the terrorists but to question the religious right of its perpetrators to claim allegiance to the faith of Islam.
The terrorists who kill innocent people of any faith in the name of Islam are indeed intense in kufr (oppression or denial of justice) and hypocrisy. The following verses from the Qur’an expose the moral bankruptcy of those who falsely claim to act in the name of Islam while violating its core principles.”
“The hypocrite men and women are of the same kind. They enjoin the evil, and forbid the good, and hold back their hands (from giving to the needy). They are oblivious of God and God is oblivious of them, and without doubt, they are the deviants (Fasiqun) (9:67). God has promised for them as well as the inveterate deniers of justice (Kuffar), the fire of hell and that is enough for them; for them is the curse of God and an enduring punishment” (9:68).
“Whether you (O Muhammad) seek forgiveness for them (hypocrites) or you do not seek forgiveness for them (it makes no difference.) Even if you ask seventy times for their forgiveness, God will not forgive them, because they have rejected God and His Messenger, and God does not guide the deviants (Fasiqun)” (9:80).
And never (O Muhammad) pray for any of them (hypocrites) who dies, nor stand at his grave, for they were unfaithful to God and His Messenger, and died as deviants (Fasiqun)” (9:84).
“The nomadic Arabs are the most inveterate violators of truth and justice (kufr) and hypocrisy (Nifaq), and more likely to be ignorant of the limits of what God has revealed to His Messenger, for God is All-Knowing, the Wise” (9:97).
These verses and others bearing similar warnings disavow the rights of the attackers (who were obviously Muslims) to claim allegiance to the religion of Islam. The revelation had asked the Prophet not to pray for their forgiveness nor attend their funeral. But this warning – which I have quoted in a number of my previous articles condemning terrorism in the name of Islam are certainly known to them but in their blatant hypocrisy, they shamelessly act as the archetypes of kufr and hypocrisy. So we must take a purely secular view of the matter.
It was a dangerously deep rooted conspiracy
The terror attack was possibly conspiratorial rather than vindictive.
Targeting of only Hindu men – all tourist was to stoke communal hatred in India, cripple the economy of Kashmir, upset the peaceful and harmonious relation between the two mainstream communities of India – not only in Kashmir but in the whole of India if not the subcontinent.
There could be far more heinous motive behind the attacks that merely spreading terror and mistrust and breaking the unity of India.
Acting Like A Devil’s Advocate:
In a world where military power dictates a nations’ status and standing – let alone survival in the international arena, military hardware are the most sought after assets of a nation. The producers of these assets are the Military Industrial Complexes – owned mostly by
the rich corporate world and bought and consumed by the poor third world countries. Even a primary school student can grasp how wars—though fought by poorer nations—enrich the manufacturers of weapons, mostly based in wealthier states.
Overriding Need For Unity As Hatred And Division Will Inevitably Herald Doom
As all major wars in the world have been triggered and sustained by hatred – the riches fuel for violence – let the victimize mainstream society in India make an impassionate and calculated assessment of this gory terror attack – which beyond an iota of doubt is the brainchild of a demonic mind that may be conspiring to trigger the onset of hell by deployment of most sophisticated and most expensive arsenals in modern wars. Shouldn’t this compel us, as a nation, to unite not in hatred, but in moral vigilance—against those who profit from division and despair?
