The Poem, Emphasizing Hindu-Muslim Unity and Swadeshi by Maulana Irshad Lalyanvi of Jamiat Ulema Hind, Banned By the British

Literature has played a big role in India's freedom struggle. Through poems, the patriots used to inculcate the spirit of freedom among the Indians. The British were not unaware of this fact hence such poems were banned. One such poem written by Maulana Irshad Lalyanvi of Jamiat Ulema Hind was banned by the British in 1931.

Irshad was in charge of Jamiat in Meerut. The poem emphasizes Hindu-Muslim unity and Swadeshi.< >

This poem is as follows:

हिन्द वालों मान भी जाओ लड़ाई छोड़ दो

ये बुरी आदत है, इसको मेरे भाई छोड़ दो

देख लो, दौलत गयी, इज़्ज़त गयी, वक़अत गयी

अब तो इन परदेसियों की आशनाई छोड़ दो

ये समझ लेना के फिर बन जाओगे लालों के लाल

मुल्क की हालत को देखो, खुदनुमाई छोड़ दो

जो मुख़ालिफ़ हों तुम्हारे उनको भी अच्छा कहो

हमनवां हो जायेंगे, उनकी बुराई छोड़ दो

तुमको दुनिया में बड़ा बनने की ख़्वाहिश है अगर

रास्ती से काम लो ये कज अदाई छोड़ दो

ये मुअल्लिम बात है रहना है तुम सबको यहीं

अब यूँही लड़ते रहो तुम या लड़ाई छोड़ दो

छोटी छोटी हस्तियां देती हैं आज़ादी का दर्स

रातभर कहते हैं खटमल चारपाई छोड़ दो

ये बिदेशी माल ही तो बस ग़ुलामी की है जड़

जब नहीं इसमें कोई अपनी भलाई छोड़ दो

फ़ायदा जो हो सके पहुंचाओ अपने मुल्क को

देस से इरशाद अब तो बेवफ़ाई छोड़ दो
