Temples Will Replace All Mosques: Senior BJP leader
Stirs Controversy
Eshwarappa
earlier in April sparked controversy during his election speech by calling Azan
a "headache" as a mosque nearby played it on.
------
Sagay Raj
Jun 25, 2023
By Sagay Raj: Senior BJP leader and former Karnataka
minister KS Eshwarappa stirred a controversy after he said mosques would be
demolished to build temples.
Stating that temples will replace all the mosques, the
senior BJP leader said, "Wherever the Mughals have demolished temples and
constructed mosques, in all those places we will destroy all the mosques and
temples that will come up."
Earlier in April, Eshwarappa had sparked a controversy
during his election speech, when he termed Azan a "headache", while
it was being played at a nearby mosque.
Addressing party cadres in Haveri, the former BJP
minister on Saturday said that the Congress hates the Hindu religion and the
party would have been exterminated if Muslims weren’t there.
Eshwarappa said, “Congress hates the Hindu religion,
Muslims are like an extended family to them. Congress would have been
exterminated if Muslims weren’t there. Congress is still in existence in
Karnataka because of the Muslims.”
Upon being asked if he wanted his son to contest for
his constituency, he said that he wouldn’t ask the high command to give a
ticket to his son and would stick to the party’s decision of giving the Haveri
ticket to other BJP cadres.

25 June 2023
Bangladesh police have arrested the leader of an
Islamist organisation at his hideout in Dhaka, officers said Saturday, months
after the launch of a crackdown against the group.
Shamin Mahfuz, the founder of Jamaat al Ansar fil
Hindal Sharqiya, is accused of helping to run militant training camps in the
country's restive Chittagong Hill Tracts.
Police said Mahfuz was arrested late Friday along with
his wife in an industrial suburb of the capital, where they were found with a
pistol, explosives and bomb-making materials.
"An anti-terrorism case has been filed against
Mahfuz. We seek 10 days of remand to question him," Mohammad Asaduzzaman
of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police counter-terrorism unit told reporters.
Asaduzzaman said the Sharqiya founder had first been
detained in 2014 and came into contact with other outlawed extremist groups
while in prison.
He said Mahfuz had brokered a deal for the
organisation to use training camps run by the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF), a
mainly Christian tribal insurgent group.
Last October the country's elite Rapid Action
Battalion security force said it had launched an assault on KNF and Sharqiya
encampments in three remote hill towns near the Indian border, arresting dozens
of people.
Bangladesh security forces launched a nationwide drive
against Islamist extremists last decade after a series of high-profile terror
attacks that killed nearly a dozen atheist writers, secular and gay activists
and minorities.
In the deadliest incident, members of an Islamic
State-linked group killed 22 civilians including 17 foreigners during a siege
at an upmarket restaurant in Dhaka in 2016.
Bangladesh police shot dead more than 100 people in
nationwide raids on extremist hideouts and arrested thousands of alleged
members of extremist groups.

PM Anwar Should Apologise For His ‘Sexist’ Remark To
Female Student, Bersatu Leader Says
Prime Minister Datuk Seri
Anwar Ibrahim delivers a speech during the launch of Rakan Muda Nafas Baharu at
Dewan Canselor Tun Abd Razak, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia June 25, 2023. —

25 Jun 2023
KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri
Anwar Ibrahim should acknowledge he had made a “sexist” remark to a female Form
Six student yesterday and apologise, a leader from political rival Parti Pribumi
Bersatu Malaysia said today.
Sasha Lyna Abdul Latif, Bersatu’s legal and
constitution bureau’s deputy chair, claimed that Anwar’s remark yesterday to
the student — known only as Adriana — was a “classic and stunning display of
discriminatory, bigoted and sexist language” and said it was inappropriate.
“What sort of example is the country’s PM setting for
the youth of the nation? That it’s fine to ignore the intelligence and capacity
of women, and instead treat them as an object of flirtation?” Sasha Lyna asked
in a statement today.
She said it would never be okay for a leader to say
such words to a student under the guise of “being humorous”, saying that Anwar
should have known better and that the incident yesterday reflects poorly on
him.
“A prime minister who has for 25 years chanted
Reformasi and Perjuangan Rakyat should be committed in fostering a nation that
is respectful and free from discrimination or prejudice or sexism. Women and
girls should be able to perform in public forums and workplaces without fear of
sexism rearing its ugly head,” she said.
She said women leaders in the ruling Pakatan Harapan
coalition and the unity government should not keep silent over their own
leader’s alleged “sexism” and must speak up if they do not want to be labelled
as hypocrites.
“We also urge the Prime Minister to accept that he had
made a blatantly sexist comment in a public forum and apologise to the student
affected and to all who participated in the event, as well as to the nation,”
she said.
Sasha Lyna was referring to an incident at the “Temu
Anwar Negeri Sembilan” event at UniversitiSains Islam Malaysia (USIM)
yesterday, where the Form Six student had asked two questions, including
whether Anwar was confident that Malaysia was capable of becoming a first world
nation in the future and what steps should be taken by the government and the
younger generation to have Malaysia be in line with developed nations.
The Form Six student identified only as Adriana had
also asked what are the government’s actions to restore the value of the
ringgit.
In that forum, Anwar’s immediate response was that he
was proud that the student was able to ask such questions and that if he was
still young, he would have wanted to ask for her phone number.
The host of the event was heard telling Anwar to pass
the number to him once he obtains it, while Anwar continued by saying he was
merely joking and that his wife is always watching.
Sasha Lyna today said Adriana’s questions were
“serious well thought-out questions and deserved a proper answer”, and that
Anwar should not have responded the way that he did.
National news agency Bernama yesterday reported
Anwar’s response to Adriana’s question on restoring the ringgit’s value, where
he spoke about the need to attract investments into Malaysia and the Malaysia
My Second Home programme to draw money into the country, while also saying the
government is thinking of several more measures.

JEDDAH: The President of the Saudi Data and Artificial
Intelligence Authority Abdullah bin Sharaf Al-Ghamdi issued a statement to the
Saudi Press Agency recently about the Kingdom’s use of advanced technologies
including artificial intelligence during this year’s Hajj.
Al-Ghamdi said: “These efforts are based on the
SDAIA’s role as a national reference in all aspects of data and artificial
intelligence to ensure that the country becomes a leader in data-based
economies and artificial intelligence.”
He added that the authority strives every year to
ensure the “digital empowerment of government entities working in (support of)
Hajj” and to support them in carrying out their duties.
The Agency of the General Presidency for the Affairs
of the Prophet’s Mosque has significantly increased its efforts during this
year’s Hajj season, it announced, with a particular focus on providing guidance
and education to visitors in multiple languages.

resorting to AI to facilitate Pilgrims’ procedures for entering the Kingdom and
performing Hajj. (SPA)
Over 30 interpreters proficient in a number of
languages have been employed to educate and assist pilgrims. The interpreters
will be available on site, but also via the internet or the telephone. Saudi
authorities have also used multilingual signage to guide pilgrims throughout
their Hajj journey.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance
in Makkah, represented by the General Secretariat of the Guests for the
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Program for Hajj Pilgrimage and Umrah,
announced the arrival of the first group of Palestinian pilgrims taking part in
this year’s program on Saturday, following King Salman’s directive that Saudi
Arabia will host 1,000 Palestinian pilgrims. The group consisted of 329
individuals from families of martyrs, injured individuals, and prisoners.

in the lead up to Hajj.
In addition, four ambulances have been stationed on
the Hijrah road between Madinah and Makkah, along with medical equipment and personnel.

‘Open To Alliance In UP For LS Polls On
Muslim-Dalit-Tribal Combine’: Asaduddin Owaisi
Jun 25, 2023
LUCKNOW: While qestioning the ‘anti-BJP’ credentials
of major players at the opposition meet in Patna on June 23, All India
Majlise-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi reiterated
his party’s commitment towards political empowerment of Dalits, Muslims and
tribals. He spoke to Pervez Iqbal Siddiqui on a range of political issues. . .
It was like an old schoolboys’ network. It is a group
of elitist politicians who have arrogated themselves this right to claim that
only they can defeat the BJP. They have also chosen to ignore their political
history where most of them had sailed with the BJP and some of them have done
that more than once.
Can you elaborate on that?My problem is that they
don’t seem to support the ideology of defeating communal forces. To begin with,
Nitish Kumar has always chosen BJP over other supposedly secular political
options. He was railway minister when Godhra happened and stayed with the BJP
when Gujarat genocide followed. He sided with BJP to become Bihar CM. As Shiv
Sena CM, Uddhav Thackeray stood inside Maharashtra Assembly and said he was
proud that Shiv Sena had participated in the demolition of Babri Masjid. Arvind
Kejriwal had supported BJP in abrogation of Article 370. It was because of the
Congress that BJP had come to power twice at the Centre. Where is the
ideological commitment to take on the BJP?
What, according to you, is the future of this
opposition unity? The Persian proverb byNizamuddin Auliya “Hanuz Dilli Door Ast”
(Delhi is yet far away) – sums it up better.

No Muslim in Modi’s cabinet: Owaisi slams PM’s ‘no
discrimination’ remark
Jun 24, 2023
By India Today News Desk: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul
Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief, Asaduddin Owaisi, on Saturday, slammed Prime Minister
Narendra Modi’s speech in the United States on minorities in India.
Prime Minister Modi, at a press conference at the
White House in Washington, said that “there is absolutely no space for
discrimination” in India.
Slamming PM Modi’s comments on minorities in India,
the AIMIM chief said, "The PM visited America. We also want good relations
with the USA. But we also heard Barack Obama’s interview where he spoke about
minorities. Modi had tea with Barack Obama in the past, but look what Obama
said about the condition of Muslims in India.”
“The PM in the US said that there is no discrimination
against Muslims, but they burned down 300 churches in Manipur. What is that?
They implemented the CAA. Isn't that discrimination? They also discontinued the
Maulana Azad Fellowship, that's discrimination too, Modi ji. Gaurakshaks (cow
protectors) kill people indiscriminately. That's discrimination as well,”
Owaisi added.

Nigerians should ignore El-Rufai’s comment on Muslim
dominance – Ex-presidential candidate, Kachikwu
By DirisuYakubu
25th June 2023
The presidential candidate of the African Democratic
Congress in the 2023 elections, DumebiKachikwu, tells DIRISU YAKUBU his
position on a wide range of issues, including the President Bola Tinubu-led
government, his experience in partisan politics and why he will decline if
given an offer to serve in the current government, among others issues
I will say it takes the grace of God for one not to be
traumatised with what one saw during the campaigns; the human interactions, the
failure of our society, the near absence of government across the country, the
poverty level and the fact that most Nigerians were willing to sell their souls
and many other experiences. It is a very depressing situation and I thank God
that I was able to experience that, and I believe I am better off with it. I
think I have a better understanding of what Nigeria truly is right now because
of that experience. This is more important to me than the outcome of the
exercise.
I won’t say I won’t participate again because I
believe politics is a life of service. I have been in active service to my
fatherland for a very, very long time. I remain an activist and by nature, I
always give what I have to participate in ventures aimed at making my country
better. So, I cannot say I will not participate again. But by participating, I
have a better understanding of who we are as a people, what our country is
about and some of the issues that one must be careful to navigate around.

Launching new RakanMuda phase, PM Anwar says youth
frontline against divisive politics
By Syed JaymalZahiid
25 Jun 2023
BANGI, June 25 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar
Ibrahim today hailed youths as the vanguard of progressive politics, as he
launched a new phase of the three decades-old RakanMuda programme, expressing
hope its participants would be torchbearers of unity and multiculturalism.
The message was likely targeted at young and
first-time voters just weeks before the ruling coalition heads into the polls
that will decide who governs six states. Anwar suggested they could decide the
outcome, which would ultimately dictate if the country becomes more racially
divided or united.
Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh said the new
phase of RakanMuda focuses on 10 areas that would spur youth “development”,
although it’s unclear if they are significantly different from past programmes.

Pakistan Grants Temporary Permission To Hundreds Of
AfghansTo Return to Their Homes
Ibrahim Shinwari
June 25, 2023
KHYBER: Pakistan on Sunday again granted temporary
permission to hundreds of Afghan nationals without valid travel documents to
return to their country on humanitarian basis.
Officials at Torkham border told Dawn that scores of
Afghans were stranded in different parts of Pakistan as they entered the
country without visa and carried their national identity cards (tazkira) only.
They said those illegal Afghans had gathered near the
border point expecting yet another “goodwill gesture” from the Pakistan
government to let them go home before the imminent Eidul Azha festival.
The Afghan nationals, including women and children,
took temporary shelter near the border crossing to protect themselves from the
scorching heat.
Many of them complained about dehydration and
heat-related problems, while others insisted that they had run out of cash due
to their prolonged stay near the border.

Ministers’ absence irks coalition partners in National
Assembly
Amir Wasim
June 25, 2023
ISLAMABAD: The ruling PML-N on Saturday faced the
wrath of lawmakers, including its allies, over the continued absence of the
ministers belonging to the party from the National Assembly during the budget
session.
Speaking on points of order, a number of members,
mostly from the PPP, drew the attention of the house towards the power outages
across the country and shortage of gas in Sindh and Balochistan and took a
strong exception to the absence of the ministers, including Power Minister
Khurram Dastgir Khan and Petroleum Minister Musaddik Malik, from almost the
entire budget session.
Similarly, while raising matters related to PIA, some
members also protested over the absence of Aviation Minister Khawaja Saad
Rafique, who also holds the portfolio of railways, from the budget session,
ignoring the fact that even Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif did not attend any
sitting during the nearly two-week general discussion on the federal budget for
the next financial year.

Qureshi takes issue with govt’s ‘lack of response’ to
US-India joint statement
June 25, 2023
Ex-foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Sunday
criticised what he described as the coalition government’s lack of response on
the joint statement issued by the United States and India which called on
Pakistan to crack down on extremists that target New Delhi.
US President Joe Biden laid out a red carpet for
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the White House on Thursday where the
two countries sealed major defence and technology deals as Washington bets big
on India as a counterweight to China.
In an apparent bid to use the visit to further India’s
agenda against Islamabad, a joint statement issued by the two heads of state
late on Thursday called on Pakistan to crack down on extremists that target New
Delhi. The statement also called for action against extremist groups based in
Pakistan.
The Foreign Office (FO) had termed the statement
“misleading and unwarranted”, saying that the “reference is contrary to
diplomatic norms and has political overtones” while Defence Minister Khawaja
Asif said the US president should “consider facts the next time he fetes the
butcher of Gujarat”.

Govt may show SC footage of May 9
Nasir Iqbal
June 25, 2023
ISLAMABAD: In a bid to “sensitise” the seven-member
bench seized with petitions against trials of civilians in the military courts
to the gravity of May 9 violence, the federal government is “seriously
considering” playing footage of violent attacks on military and government
buildings in Courtroom No 1.
“We want to sensitise the court to the gravity of the
situation for which it is essential to show the video footage,” said Attorney
General Mansoor Usman Awan while talking to Dawn. He said the government
intended to run the clips of violent incidents, which occurred following the
arrest of PTI chief Imran Khan on May 9, inside Courtroom No 1.
The government is likely to play different clips
showing attacks in cantonments of Lahore, Mianwali, Rawalpindi, and Mardan,
particularly attacks on the Lahore corps commander’s house and the General
Headquarters in Rawalpindi.
Meanwhile, Aitzaz Ahsan furnished additional documents
before the Supreme Court, pleading that trials of civilians in military courts
violated fundamental rights and go beyond the scope of Article 175 of the
Constitution — a provision that deals with the superior judiciary.

Court acquits Nawaz in plot allotment case from 1980s
Wajih Ahmad Sheikh
June 25, 2023
LAHORE: An accountability court on Saturday acquitted
former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in a reference about alleged illegal
allotment of plots in 1986 to the owner of a media house.
Judge Rao Abdul Jabbar passed the order on
applications filed by Yousaf Abbas, a nephew of Mr Sharif, and others
challenging the auction of the properties supposedly owned by Nawaz Sharif.
They claimed ownership of the assets ordered to be auctioned by the court after
the former premier was declared a proclaimed offender for his constant absence
in the trial proceedings.
Their counsel Qazi Misbahul Hassan argued before the
court that the principal accused (the media owner) and two former Lahore
Development Authority (LDA) officers had already been acquitted in the
reference of 37-year-old ‘illegal’ land allotment. He said the acquittal of the
principal accused proved that no offence was committed.

US, Canada begin submersible Titan implosion
investigation
25.06.23
Authorities from the US and Canada began the process
of investigating the cause of the fatal Titan submersible implosion even as
they grappled with questions of who was responsible for determining how the
tragedy unfolded.
A formal inquiry has not yet been launched because
maritime agencies are still busy searching the area where the vessel was
destroyed, killing all five people aboard, the US Coast Guard said on Friday.
Debris was located about 3,810 metres underwater, several hundred feet away
from the Titanic wreckage it was on its way to explore.
The US Coast Guard led the initial search and rescue
mission, which was a massive international effort that likely cost millions of
dollars.

Hollywood Producer ArnonMilchan Testifies at Netanyahu
Corruption Trial Over 'Supply Line' of Gifts
June 25, 2023
JERUSALEM (AP) — Hollywood producer ArnonMilchan was
testifying Sunday at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s corruption
trial to answer questions about an alleged “supply line” of champagne and
cigars funneled to the Israeli leader and his wife said to have been in
exchange for help with Milchan’s personal and business needs.
Milchan, who appeared by videoconference from the
English city of Brighton, near where he is based, is a key witness whose
testimony is essential for prosecutors who are trying to prove that Netanyahu
committed fraud and breach of trust in one of three cases brought against him.
Prosecutors hope Milchan's testimony, which extends
through this week and next, will paint a picture of plush favors granted to
Netanyahu and his wife that allegedly spurred the Israeli leader to use his
position of power to advance Milchan’s interests. The defense will try to lay
out its case that Netanyahu wasn’t acting in Milchan’s personal interests and
that the gifts were just friendly gestures.
Prosecution and defense lawyers are questioning
Milchan in a hotel conference room in Brighton. While no journalists are
allowed to be present there, Netanyahu’s wife Sara, on a private visit to
Britain, will sit in.
Milchan's testimony, expected to last six hours a day,
is being aired in a Jerusalem courtroom for judges and other lawyers — who can
also ask questions of him — and for journalists and other attendees to watch.
Shortly after the testimony began, Netanyahu arrived in the courtroom. Milchan
is not charged in the case.

Apparent Coup Attempt Cracks Putin’s Iron Rule

of how seriously the Kremlin took the threat, security was heightened in
Moscow, Rostov-on-Don and other regions. (AP Photo)UNCREDITED
An army of mercenaries that President Vladimir Putin
sponsored, empowered and heavily armed to do his bidding abroad – most recently
in Ukraine – conducted a stunning about-face and marched on Moscow on Saturday,
forcing the greatest challenge ever to the Russian leader’s foreign ambitions
and perhaps even his own rule at home.
Confusing reports of the Wagner Group’s sudden
mobilization away from its fighting positions in Ukraine late Friday quickly
gave way to confirmation on Saturday that tens of thousand of its forces along
with fighting vehicles and heavy weaponry had marched on the southern Russian
metropolis of Rostov-on-Don, seizing the headquarters building of the Russian
command overseeing the war in Ukraine. Its leader, catering oligarch Yevgeny
Prigozhin, once called “Putin’s chef,” began issuing statements castigating
Russia’s military leadership and called on elements of its armed forces to join
his cause as they moved toward the capital city.

Heckler Theresa Mallett, Interrupts SNP Leader Humza
Yousaf, Scottish First Minister, At Convention
By Henry Bodkin
24th June 2023
SNP leader Humza Yousaf was forced to leave the stage
in the middle of a keynote conference speech after the victim of a disgraced
surgeon started heckling.
The Scottish First Minister’s keynote address on
independence was interrupted by Theresa Mallett, who angrily demanded a public
inquiry, saying she had been left in constant pain following botched surgery.
Mr Yousaf, who is trying to stop his fledgling
premiership being derailed by the SNP donations scandal, temporarily abandoned
the podium in order to plead with the 61-year-old from Glenrothes to sit down.
She said Eljamel, who removed himself from the medical
register in 2013 but still practises in Libya, had botched her surgery for
sciatica, and experts had subsequently told her that the resulting pain is
permanent.

The UK has enjoyed another scorcher of a day, just
missing the hottest temperature of the year so far.
Saturday reached 29C at Wisley in Surrey, just
slightly higher than the 28C recorded the day before.
With the temperature possibly hitting 32C on Sunday,
and getting pretty close to the hottest day of the year so far, “it will be a
case of watching those temperatures tomorrow afternoon”, said Met Office

“We will see temperatures rise quite quickly tomorrow

Putin vows to crush 'armed mutiny' after Russian

Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed to crush what
he called an armed mutiny after rebellious mercenary chief Yevgeny Prigozhin

The dramatic turn, with many details unclear, looked

In a televised address, Putin said that "excessive
