Month After Namaz Row, Gujarat University Asks 7 Afghan
Students To Leave Hostel

Apr 7, 2024
AHMEDABAD: Authorities at Gujarat University (GU) have
issued official notices to seven students from Afghanistan, instructing them to
vacate hostel rooms. Five of these students have already complied with the
directive, officials confirmed.
The move comes in the wake of a recent controversy
involving Afghan students who engaged in an altercation with a local group over
offering namaz in the open within the hostel premises. Following this incident,
a delegation from the Afghan consulate visited the university after the
ministry of external affairs (MEA) took up the issue.
“These students either have completed their courses or
have formalities, such as obtaining transcripts or certificates, pending that
do not require their presence on campus. University regulations prohibit
students from using hostel facilities once their studies are concluded. All
seven students fall into this category,” explained a senior GU official. “Four
have finished their courses, and three have only administrative tasks
remaining.”
GU currently hosts approximately 180 students from
various countries. University sources revealed that rules are being strictly
enforced in response to several instances where students attempt to prolong
their stay after completing their coursework and other obligations.
Dr Nirja Gupta, the vice-chancellor of GU, stated that
five of the seven students have already left the campus, while the remaining
two are expected to comply with the regulations.
“We have notified the Afghan consulate regarding this
matter. It was one of the issues discussed during their recent visit to the
campus,” she confirmed.

Iran Tells US To "Step Aside" As It Prepares
To Attack Israel

the alleged message Iran had sent. Photo: NDTV
------
06 April, 2024
Iran has warned the United States not to get involved
as the country prepares to respond to a suspected Israeli airstrike that hit the
Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria, on Monday.
In post on X on Friday, the Iranian president's deputy
chief of staff for political affairs, told the US to "step aside so you
won't get hit" and warned Washington not fall into Prime Minister
Netanyahu's "trap".
Iran pledged to punish Israel at a funeral for the
seven officers killed on Friday. State television showed demonstrators carrying
pictures of those killed and banners with slogans such as "Death to
Israel" and "Death to America".
The US is reportedly on "high alert" and is
preparing for a possible attack by Iran targeting Israeli or American assets in
the region. An American official told CNN that an attack could come in the next
week.
Seven officers were killed after the suspected Israeli
warplanes targeted Iran's embassy in Damascus, marking an escalation in
Israel's war with Iran.
The airstrike was the boldest and deadliest attack in
a series that had killed Iranian officials in Syria since December when an
Israeli airstrike killed a senior adviser in Iran's Revolutionary Guards in
Damascus.
One of Iran's top soldiers, Brigadier General Mohammad
Reza Zahedi, a senior commander in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps
(IRGC), was one of the seven officers murdered while visiting the embassy.
An Israeli source confirmed to Israeli media that 28
Israeli embassies worldwide were closed on Friday as a "precautionary
move" amid fears of a retaliatory response as pro-Palestinian protesters
gathered in Iran and around the world to celebrate Quds (Jerusalem) Day, marked
on the last Friday of Ramadan.
Iran and its proxies and allies in the so-called
"Axis of Resistance", including Yemen's Houthi militants, Hezbollah
in Lebanon, and groups in Syria and Iraq, have been carrying out attacks on
Israel and its allies to show solidarity with the Palestinians.
The head of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, said that the
Lebanese group was "fully prepared" for a war with Israel in a speech
on Friday celebrating Jerusalem Day.

Banning Arms Sales To Israel Would Be ‘Insane’, Says Boris
Johnson

Sat 6 Apr 2024
The former prime minister also criticised the foreign
secretary, David Cameron, for remaining silent on the debate over curtailing UK
arms sales to Israel.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) launched airstrikes
on Monday, killing three British aid workers associated with the World Central
Kitchen (WCK). In the aftermath, MPs from all major political parties have
called on the government to end arms trading with Israel. The same sentiment
was expressed in a letter signed by more than 600 lawyers, including former
supreme court justices.
Israel claimed the strike was not deliberate,
describing the attack on the aid convoy as a “grave mistake stemming from a
serious failure”. Israel officials have since dismissed two officers involved
in the strikes.
In a scathing column in the Daily Mail, Johnson wrote
that the attacks on the WCK convoy were “shattering” but then defended Israel,
claiming it was sending warnings of the IDF’s attacks, which are “trying to use
precision munitions”.
Johnson added: “If the west continues to crumble – and
especially if Britain and the US crumble – then the Israelis will be prevented
from getting into Rafah. They will be prevented from achieving their objective:
of finishing Hamas as a military force in Gaza.”
He added: “Is that really what you want, all you legal
experts who say that Israel’s actions now necessitate an arms embargo? Do you
want to hand victory to a bunch of murderers and rapists? We are being asked to
shun the Israelis, to mount a total moral repudiation of Israel – when that
country has only recently suffered the biggest and most horrifying massacre of
Jewish people since world war two.”
Johnson added that if Hamas released its hostages, it
would “mean the immediate withdrawal of the Israeli Defense Forces and the end
of the conflict”. Johnson concluded that banning arms sales to Israel would be
“insane” and “shameful”. “The sooner the government formally denounces the
idea, the better,” he said.
Cameron said the government would review the IDF’s
report, which was released on Friday, but stopped short of coming down on
either side of the debate. Johnson wrote that Cameron has “gone into a kind of
purdah on the subject”.
Cameron said: “Lessons must be learnt from today’s
initial findings from the IDF. It’s clear major reform of Israel’s
deconfliction mechanism is badly needed to ensure the safety of aid workers.”
The Labour leader, Keir Starmer, is also facing
mounting pressure to back an arms embargo after the London mayor, Sadiq Khan,
stressed the need for the government to take immediate action.

Alicia Kearns, the Conservative chair of the foreign
affairs select committee, has been more forthright, stating that it was
“devastating” that it had taken six months and the deaths of western aid
workers for Israel to change their approach to supplying international
humanitarian aid”.
The US president, Joe Biden, has reportedly written a
letter to leaders in Egypt and Qatar calling for help to broker a deal with
Israel and Hamas over the release of more hostages.
Biden is also facing pressure to halt arms to Israel.
More than three dozen congressional Democrats, including the former House
speaker Nancy Pelosi, have signed a letter to the president and the secretary
of state, Antony Blinken, calling for a halt to weapons transfers to Israel.

Afghanistan Taliban Shift To Methamphetamine
Production After Poppy Ban: Australian Media Reports
Photo: Khaama Press
-----
By Fidel Rahmati
April 7, 2024
The Australian weekly “Saturday Paper” reported that
the Taliban, following the announcement of the poppy cultivation ban, has
shifted its focus to the production and trafficking of methamphetamine instead
of heroin. According to the report, a significant portion of methamphetamine
(crystal meth) originates from Afghanistan and reaches drug markets in Australia.
The efforts by the Taliban to replace heroin with
methamphetamine began before the complete takeover of Afghanistan by this
group, as stated in the report.
An expert from a global drug control agency told
“Saturday Paper” that in the early days of the Taliban, alongside heroin
packages, they would also send a package of methamphetamine for free to their
customers to familiarize them with this substance.
The expert stated, “They send you a hundred kilograms
of heroin and add five kilograms of methamphetamine for free.” According to
him, the aim of this was to attract customers to this substance in the initial
stage.
According to this report, the shift towards
methamphetamine has allowed the Taliban to transform their “vast heroin empire
into a more profitable, more dangerous, and deadlier trade” and fund their rule
in Afghanistan through it.
The ban on poppy cultivation by the Taliban is
referred to as “part of the group’s agenda” in the report, as this order has
boosted the value of larger reserves of raw opium, “which appears to be held by
some senior leaders of the group.” “Saturday Paper” wrote that it seems
unlikely that these reserves will diminish for many years.
The Weekly noted that while the Taliban issued the
order to ban poppy cultivation in 2022, this order was not implemented
practically during the year, and drug producers had plenty of time to increase
production and stockpile.
The media outlet wrote that according to experts and
evidence, the rise of methamphetamine “is set to make the Taliban endlessly
wealthy, strengthen their power, and simultaneously fund dozens of terrorist
and jihadist organizations that currently enjoy Taliban support in
Afghanistan.”
As an example, the report mentioned that the price of
one kilogram of heroin from Afghanistan was $250,000 before the issuance of the
ban, while the same amount of methamphetamine was valued at $700,000.
In September 2023, the United Nations Office on Drugs
and Crime revealed a twelvefold increase in the smuggling of crystal meth from
Afghanistan and neighbouring countries. Seizures surged from 2.5 tons in 2017
to 29.7 tons in 2021, as reported. Additionally, Iran’s Drug Control
Headquarters highlighted the daily production of industrial drugs, including
methamphetamine, in Afghanistan.

KUANTAN, April 7 — Muslims need to be vigilant and
reject any deviant or heretical teaching as it can influence thinking and
behaviour and bring division in society if not curbed from the beginning.
Pahang mufti Prof Datuk Dr Asmadi Mohamed Naim said
Muslims need to refer to religious members who are certified and authoritative
if any confusion and teachings conflict with the teachings of Ahli Sunnah Wal
Jamaah.
“The Pahang Mufti Department upholds the decree of His
Royal Highness the Sultan of Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa
Billah Shah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah who reminds Muslims in this state
to stay clear from any form of deviant teachings and to remain firm to the
teachings of Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah.
“Society needs to adhere firmly to the Ahli Sunnah Wal
Jamaah teachings which are based on the AhlussunnahWal Jamaah as described by
Imam Abu Hassan al-Ash’ari (Asyairah) and Imam Abu Mansur al-Maturidi
(Maturidiyah), the Syafie school of fiqh in daily practice (and still
respecting the other three schools of fiqh — Maliki, Hanafi and Hanbali), and
the Sufism of Imam Ghazali and Imam Junaid al-Baghdadi,” he said in a
statement.
He said the Pahang Mufti Department will always
cooperate with all parties from time to time and will always monitor any form
of suspicious teachings or beliefs so that they can be curbed and dealt with as
best as possible for the sake of the faith of Muslims in the state.
“The Pahang Mufti Department calls on the public not
to allow themselves to be caught in the web of heresy. May we remain strong
together to protect ourselves, our families, and the community from any form of
threat of deviant or misguided teachings or beliefs,” he said.

Yogi Adityanath cites UK report, asserts BJP has 'zero
tolerance for terror'
Apr 7, 2024
SAHARANPUR: UP CM Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said a
"reputed newspaper in Britain mentioned how India had identified
terrorists in Pakistan and killed them from 2020 to 2022".
He said, "Two days ago, the Guardian in an
article claimed how terrorists were killed. The source of this information can
only be shared by the Guardian. BJP's intention is also clear. We won't
tolerate corruption and terrorism and will continue with a zero-tolerance
policy. Even the world has now accepted that terrorism is a huge challenge that
will be dealt with, and India will lead the world in its effort."
The Guardian report, quoting 'intelligence operatives'
under the headline 'Indian govt ordered killings in Pakistan, intelligence
officials claim' had purportedly stated that "the Indian govt assassinated
individuals in Pakistan as part of a wider strategy to eliminate terrorists
living on foreign soil".

Congress manifesto reflects policies of Muslim League
before Independence: PM Narendra Modi
Piyush Srivastava
07.04.24
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday alleged the
Congress manifesto reflected “the policies of the Muslim League before
Independence”, capping his earlier references to the Ram temple and
cross-border terrorism on the campaign trail.
Since the erstwhile Muslim League is widely considered
the prime mover behind the creation of Pakistan, Modi’s comment seemed to
obliquely tie the Congress to the neighbouring country. The Muslim League is,
however, not to be confused with the Congress’s present-day ally in Kerala, the
Indian Union Muslim League.
“The manifesto of the Congress, released yesterday,
shows that it cannot fulfil the aspirations of the country. The Congress
manifesto has the imprint of the policies of the Muslim League before
Independence,” Modi told an election rally in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
His choice of venue appeared no accident: Saharanpur
is home to the Darul Uloom Deoband, one of the biggest Islamic seminaries in
the world that is considered the ideological hub of Indian Sunni Muslims.

Akhilesh visit to Ansari house may unleash tough fight

By Rajesh Kumar Singh

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav’s
visit to gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari’s ancestral house in
Mohammadabad town of Ghazipur district on Sunday (April 7) to condole his death
is likely to set the pitch for the fight of Muslim votes in east Uttar Pradesh
in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The visit of All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen
(AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi (who has launched Pichchda, Dalit, Muslim (PDM)
Nyay Morcha with Apna Dal (K) led by Krishna Patel) to Ansari’s residence on
Monday has sparked a buzz among the Muslims over the initiative taken by AIMIM
that is working to spread base among the Muslim community.
A large number of people assembled near Ansari’s
residence, known as ‘Phatak’, at midnight to welcome Owaisi and to express
solidarity with the Ansari family.
Blaming the state government for Mukhtar Ansari’s
death, Owaisi said Ansari died in judicial custody and the state government was
responsible for this. “In this difficult time, we stand with his family,
supporters and loved ones. We will fight whoever is our opponent in Uttar
Pradesh. AIMIM’s performance in the last civic elections was good and more than

Iran Says ISIL Members Planning Eid Al-Fitr ‘Suicide
Attack’ Arrested
By MaziarMotamedi
6 Apr 2024
Iran says it has arrested members of the ISIL (ISIS)
group who were planning an attack at the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
A concerned citizen called law enforcement in Mahdasht
in the province of Alborz, about 60km (37 miles) west of the capital Tehran,
which led to the arrest of “senior” ISIL member Mohammad “Ramesh” Zaker, police
spokesman Saeed Montazerolmahdi said on Saturday.
Zaker and two other ISIL members were taken into
custody, he said, adding that eight people accompanying the “terrorists
planning a suicide attack” next week during Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of
Ramadan, were arrested.
In January, twin bombings during a ceremony to
commemorate the anniversary of the assassination of top commander Qassem
Soleimani in the southeastern city of Kerman killed nearly 100 people and
wounded more than 200.
The Islamic State in Khorasan Province (ISIS-K) – the
Afghanistan-based branch of ISIL behind last month’s attack on a concert hall
near Moscow that killed at least 144 people – claimed responsibility for the
Kerman assault.
The group was also behind attacks on a major Shia
shrine in the southern Iranian city of Shiraz. Iran later publicly executed two
assailants after a trial.

Tehran Politician Calls For More Mosques Amid Public
Opposition
07-04-2024
Mohammad Aghamiri, a member of Tehran City Council,
has ignited controversy by advocating the construction of at least one thousand
additional mosques in the Iranian capital.
Aghamiri's statement comes amidst heightened criticism
over a government initiative to convert parks into mosque grounds, drawing ire
from citizens and sparking a broader debate on the allocation of public funds
and urban planning.
Currently, Tehran hosts 2,100 mosques, with the
highest concentration located in the southern part of the city, according to
Aghamiri. However, he claimed that “while the municipality assists in
construction efforts, it does not directly undertake mosque building projects.”

6 Apr 2024
Thousands of Israeli antigovernment protesters have
gathered in Tel Aviv, among other parts of the country, to call on the
government to reach a deal to free dozens of captives held by the Hamas group
in Gaza and to hold early elections.
The demonstrators shouted slogans late on Saturday,
expressing anger at Benjamin Netanyahu’s government for its inability to secure

Israeli media reported scenes of confrontations
between security forces and protesters in Tel Aviv, where demonstrators
reportedly started several fires, before they were quickly put out by the
police.
People chanted “Police, police who exactly are you

'Accepted not rejected' - How Mosque fought for
disabled children's place at Eid Celebrations
By Husna Anjum
7 APR 2024
When Kamran claims when she asked a fellow Muslim how
his Eid prayer was, the man bluntly replied 'what Eid prayer?' As a father of a
disabled child he insisted their Eid was a lot more complicated.
Although dressing up and cooking giant feasts are
standard for the Islamic celebration, many never consider the experience for
families with disabled children. Changing their routine or visiting large
crowds can be a nightmare for special needs children.
This leads to many Muslim families skipping
celebrations altogether and not visiting their local Mosque. Kamran, a
volunteer at Hazrat Sultan Bahu Trust (Masjid), was "embarrassed"
after realising Mosques don't do enough to cater for disabled children during
Eid.
Five years later the Mosque hosts an annual Eid prayer
event for disabled Muslim children and their families. Parents weep tears of
gratitude as their children can run about, wear headphones and pray alongside
everyone without being judged.
Kamran Shezad, 43, said: "When you have disabled children
it is not easy getting them ready or organising a big meal, some kids don't
like big crowds.

this year takes on special value in the context of war. Years to rebuild
relations and trust, but the role of Christians will be essential because they
are the only ones who have 'forgiveness' as an intrinsic element 'of faith'.
Jerusalem (AsiaNews) - A man, of Muslim faith, after
receiving dates and a glass of water "went on his way" and then
turned back and "asked a friar why, what was the meaning of that
gesture", to which the cleric responded by saying that it was "an
attempt to give a sign of hope. Because it helps people understand that
coexitnec is possible'; hearing these words, the man 'was moved'.
This small episode shared with AsiaNews by Fr. Alberto
Joan Pari, friar minor of the Custody of the Holy Land in Jerusalem, testifies
to the value of the initiative which takes place every Thursday of Ramadan: the
distribution of fruit and bottles of water outside the Damascus Gate to the
Islamic faithful who have recently concluded prayer at the al-Aqsa mosque.
"This has been taking place for some time," the cleric continued,
"but, even more so this year, it was intended as a sign of trust" in
a context of war in Gaza and (also) confessional violence.
It is promoted by the brothers of the Custody, a
synagogue they have been working with for some time, and Hebrew-speaking
Christians. Last Thursday, 4 April, Fr Alberto himself, Ilana Nelson of the
Kehilat Zion Community and Tag Meir activists were present.

WB recommends crawling peg for Bangladesh to build
reserve
07 Apr '24
According to the World Bank, implementing a
market-clearing exchange rate mechanism, such as the crawling peg, is
imperative for Bangladesh. This mechanism aims to narrow the gap between formal
and informal exchange rates, thereby facilitating the rebuilding of external
buffers.
By making formal remittance channels more attractive
and reducing the financial account deficit through enhanced trade credit and
external financing, this approach could bolster external reserves, as stated in
the latest Bangladesh Development Update report released recently.
Currently, the official exchange rate stands at Taka
110 per dollar, while unofficial rates hover around Taka 115-120. The
Bangladesh Bank’s Monetary Policy Statements from January to June 2024 suggest
a potential adoption of the crawling peg system, although the timeline and
technical details remain undisclosed.

How government can utilise the private sector to
improve Bangladesh’s health
Monaemul Islam Sizear
07 April, 2024
Since 1950, just two years after the establishment of
the World Health Organization (WHO),
World Health Day has been celebrated on 7 April as a global health
awareness day.
Every country's context is unique and different, and
the focus depends accordingly. Considering Bangladesh's contemporary health
requirements, this article focuses on the proven potential of the private
sector's increasing role in the health sector and the government's essential
responsibilities.
Private entities, compromising both for-profit and
non-profit entities, are integral to the Bangladesh healthcare sector. They
cover not only doctors, technicians and hospitals but also all prevention and
primary healthcare services through different tiers of healthcare services. For
instance, more than 110 non-government organisations (NGOs) and 40
international non-government organisations (INGOs) provide health services in
Bangladesh to some extent.
In the complex landscape of health systems, the role
and coverage of the private sector have been expanding in many forms. Private
sectors cover a range of health services, such as primary and preventive
healthcare, nutrition, social awareness, counselling, etc.
Regarding coverage, private sector entrepreneurship
holds around 60% of the health sector in Bangladesh, which has approximately
70,000 doctors and 1,00,000 hospital beds. These numbers indicate the intensity
and importance of the private sector.

US nuclear industry upbeat on small reactors, despite

Late last year, the US energy company NuScale

The project -- the sole SMR design yet to be approved

estimated price from $5.3 billion up to $9.3 billion.
The "collapse of NuScale's project should spell

Pakistan
Sunni Ittehad Council asks ECP to postpone election of
Senate heads
Nasir Iqbal
April 7, 2024
ISLAMABAD: Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) Chairman
Mohammad Hamid Raza on Saturday approached the Election Commission of Pakistan
(ECP) to seek postponement of April 9 elections being held to fill the seats of
Senate chairman and deputy chairman.
A petition filed through senior counsel Hamid Khan in
this regard said that election should be held to a date after polls in the
upper house from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
It argued that election on the 11 vacant Senate seats
from KP and its notification were prerequisite under the Constitution for the
election of Senate chairman and deputy chairman. The petition has been filed
under Article 60, read with Article 218(3).
On April 2, election on the 11 seats were postponed on
ECP order. The election was postponed on the grounds that members of the
provincial assembly purportedly elected on the reserved seats as provided under
Article 106 had not taken the oath of their offices and since the electoral
college was incomplete, the arrangement for Senate election could not be made.
The petition regretted that the ECP, in utter
violation of the Constitution, delayed the elections to the KP Assembly despite
clear mandate of the green book. This deviance from the Constitution should end
at once to save the democracy in Pakistan, the petition pleaded.

Makkah museums elevate pilgrims’ experience

MAKKAH: Makkah’s museums attract Muslims from across
the world and enrich the pilgrimage experience. They also offer revealing
insights into the Kingdom’s history and its dedication to Hajj and Umrah
performers.
Dr. Fahd Al-Maliki, vice chairman of the Saudi
Historical Society and professor of graduate studies at Umm Al-Qura University,
told Arab News that the emergence of museums in the Arab world was slowed by
political, economic, social, educational, and religious challenges.
Worshippers from around the world flocked to the Grand
Mosque in Makkah for ‘Laylat Al-Qadr’ prayers that was observed in the wee
hours of Saturday. (SPA)
The latter, Al-Maliki said, included some factions
viewing the collection of artifacts and statues as reminiscent of pre-Islamic
idol worship. This led to the destruction of such items in many Arab countries,
driven by fears of paganism, which hindered the development of museums in the region.

Reintegrating terrorists into society dangerous,
ex-soldiers tell FG
7th April 2024
Some retired soldiers have again warned the Federal Government
to be careful with its decision to rehabilitate and reintegrate some repentant
terrorists who have gone through the government’s deradicalisation programme,
Operations Safe Corridor.
The OSC which began under former president Muhammadu
Buhari has run for several years and seen no fewer than 4,000 ex-Boko Haram
members go through the programme.
In Gombe State alone, for instance, in September 2023,
no fewer than 2,168 ex-Boko Haram members were said to have passed through the
De-radicalisation, Rehabilitation and Reintegration camp at the Kwami Local
Government Area of Gombe State in the last eight years.
In January 2023, no fewer than 613 rehabilitated
terrorists undergoing de-radicalisation were scheduled to be handed over by the
military authorities to their respective state governors.
However, in July 2022, some repentant Boko Haram
members, despite renouncing their membership of the terror group, were accused
of having contact with their former colleagues, supplying them intelligence.

Lebanese Islamic Resistance Targets IOF Soldiers,
Downs Hermes 900
April 7, 2024
In support of the Palestinian people and resistance in
Gaza and in light of the Israeli aggression on the various South Lebanon
villages, the Islamic Resistance continued on Saturday striking the Zionist
occupation sites near the Lebanese borders with occupied Palestine, inflicting
losses upon the enemy forces.
Today’s operations showcased exceptional precision as
the Islamic Resistance successfully hit an Israeli anti-UAV jamming system and
intercepted a Hermes 900 drone. It’s worth noting that Hezbollah previously
downed an IOF drone of the Hermes 450 type on February 26, 2024.
The initial statement stated that at 02:00 AM on
Saturday, April 6, 2024, Islamic Resistance fighters targeted a gathering of
Zionist soldiers near the Ramya site with artillery shells.
In retaliation to Israeli assaults on southern
villages, notably in Marjayoun, the fighters of the Islamic Resistance struck
the Jal Al-Alam site at 12:40 noon on Saturday, April 6, 2024. They also
targeted enemy soldiers positioned between the site and the Shlomi settlement
with Burkan missiles, achieving direct hits.

‘Nasarawagov pushed me to establish militia group’ –
Miyetti Allah president
Goodness Adaoyiche
April 7, 2024
President of Miyetti Allah KautalHore, Bello Bodejo,
has alleged that the Governor of Nasarawa State, AbdullahiSule, influenced the
establishment of the ethnic militia group, Kungiya Zaman Lafiya.
Recall that the Miyetti Allah leader was arrested by
operatives of the Defence Intelligence Agency on January 23, 2024, and was
arraigned before Justice InyangEkwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja on three
counts of terrorism on March 22, 2024.
Bodejo alleged that he received a call from the
governor earlier in the year expressing his desire to establish a vigilante
group different from those of his counterparts, according to Punch.
Bodejo’s confessional statement reads: “I was arrested
because of the vigilantes I paraded in Nasarawa State. Sometime in early
January 2024, Governor Sule called me and said that he wanted me to see him
concerning a Fulani group called Kungiya Zaman Lafiya, which I told him I
didn’t know about. The governor said what he called me for was because all the
governors had agreed to form vigilante groups in their states like Katsina
State had done, but he did not want to organise his like other state governors.
“He said he wanted to use all those who participated
in the political rally before the election. And he intended to link them with
the Army and they would work for him as vigilantes. The governor asked if I
could work with Akajo, the leader of the group and I told him that I couldn’t
come down to work with Akajo because I am from the national level.
Later, I called Akajo to meet me and we discussed how
to operate the Kungiya Zaman Lafiya in the state. I told the Emir of Lafia that
people complained about the group and I didn’t like them.

How Nasarawagov pressurised me to establish militia group,
Miyetti Allah leader tells investigators
7th April 2024
The President of Miyetti Allah KautalHore, Bello
Bodejo, has alleged that the Governor of Nasarawa State, AbdullahiSule, was
behind the establishment of the ethnic militia group, Kungiya Zaman Lafiya.
The Miyetti Allah leader was arrested by operatives of
the Defence Intelligence Agency on January 23, 2024, at the group’s office in
the Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State for allegedly unveiling a
militia group and has been in custody since then.
However, in his confessional statement exclusively
obtained by Sunday PUNCH, Bodejo alleged that the Nasarawa State governor was
behind the formation of the militia group.
He stated that he received a call from the governor
earlier in the year expressing his desire to establish a vigilante group
different from those of his counterparts.
Bodejo said, “I was arrested because of the vigilantes
I paraded in Nasarawa State. Sometime in early January 2024, Governor Sule
called me and said that he wanted me to see him concerning a Fulani group
called Kungiya Zaman Lafiya, which I told him I didn’t know about. The governor
said what he called me for was because all the governors had agreed to form
vigilante groups in their states like Katsina State had done, but he did not
want to organise his like other state governors.
Later, I
called Akajo to meet me and we discussed how to operate the Kungiya Zaman
Lafiya in the state. I told the Emir of Lafia that people complained about the
group and I didn’t like them.
“However, I asked Akajo about the number of his men.
He said there were about 700 men. I demanded for their ID cards which he showed
me; the ID cards were authorised and signed by the CSO to the Nasarawa State
governor. About two weeks later, Governor A. A. Sule called me to come with
Akajo.”
He said despite informing the governor of the negative
narratives about Akajo’s group, he insisted that he (Bodejo) worked with him.
