'Shah Rukh Khan Not A Muslim, Go And Kill
Him': Raza Academy Cleric Khalil-Ur-Rehman Over Pathaan Row

New
Delhi, Jan 28: Amid controversy over Shah Rukh Khan starrer PathaanBesharam
Rang song, a Muslim cleric from Mumbai's Raza Academy stirred controversy by
calling on the protesting groups to kill the actor as he is not a Muslim.
Speaking
to Times Now, Raza Academy cleric Khalil-Ur-Rehman said the film has nothing to
do with Muslims, and neither Bollywood is Muslim.
His
outburst comes after the Hindu outfits like Bajrang Dal and Vishva Hindu
Parishad (VHP) reportedly raised some objectionable slogans against Prophet
Mohammed during a protest by right-wing activists against 'Pathaan' movie near
a cinema hall in the city.
"You
do whatever you want to do with Shah Rukh Khan, but if you utter objectionable
words against our Prophet Muhammad, then we will not tolerate it," the
Raza Acadamy cleric reportedly told Times Now.
Following
these protests, many Islamists had gathered outside the Badwali Chowki and the
Khajrana Police Station in Indore and raised the contentious Islamist slogan
'Sar Tan Se Juda'.
The
Sar Tan Se Juda is a violent call to behead non-Muslims who have disrespected
Islam. On June 28, a Hindu talior, Kanhaiya Lal was brutally murdered in
Rajasthan by Mohammad Riaz and Ghaus Mohammad for allegedly speaking up in
support of suspended BJP spokesperson, Nupur Sharma.

A
similar incident had taken place in Maharashtra's Amaravati. Umesh Kolhe was
brutally murdered by a group of radical Islamists for supporting Sharma.
Raza
Academy, to which the cleric who called for the Bollywood actor Shah Rukh
Khan's death belongs, is a hardline Muslim organisation that has led several
protests, which often led to violence, injuries and deaths.
According
to reports, in 2012, Raza Academy was indulged in the violent riots at Azad
Maidan in Mumbai and, attacked police officials and had broken the war memorial
honouring fallen Indian soldiers.
In
July 2020, Raza Academy forced the Uddhav Thackeray government to write to the
Centre, seeking a ban on the online streaming of the Iranian movie 'Muhammad:
The Messenger of God.'

Pakistan
leader says Islamic societies face ‘duty’ to protect religious freedom

------------
MUMBAI
– Pledging respect for religious freedom, the president of the world’s
second-largest Muslim nation has asserted that it is the “duty” of Islamic
societies to safeguard the “honor, dignity, life and property” of followers of
other religions.
President
ArifAlvi of Pakistan made the remarks during a Jan. 25 interfaith conference in
Islamabad, the Pakistani capital, in which a number of Catholic figures
participated, including Andrea Riccardi, founder of the Community of
Sant’Egidio, as well as Archbishop Christophe Zakhia El-Kassis, papal
ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, and Archbishop Joseph Arshad of
Islamabad.
“People
learn from what they see, and friendship between religious leaders teaches us
to live together,” Alvi said, insisting that “political, social, cultural,
legal and religious freedoms” should be ensured “for the followers of all
religions.”
At
the same time, Alvi also condemned the recent burning of a Quran during a
protest in Stockholm in front of the Turkish embassy to Sweden, which had been
organized by a right-wing anti-immigrant politician. Calling the act “hate
speech,” Alvi urged the international community to take steps to prevent such
gestures in the future.
On
the one hand, the constitution guarantees that “every citizen shall have the
right to profess, practice, and propagate his religion.” On the other, critics
say that enforcement of the country’s notorious blasphemy laws, under which an
act such as that in Stockholm would be considered a crime, often works to
punish and marginalize religious minorities.
Alvi’s
criticism of the Quran burning was echoed by Dominican Father James Channan,
director of a Dominican-sponsored Peace Center in Lahore.
Channan
demanded that the government of Sweden to bring the culprit to justice, saying
that the act caused “pain and anger” among Muslims around the globe, and
expressing his solidarity with Muslims.
Yet
Channan also called upon Pakistan’s government to step up its own efforts at
promoting tolerance, such as including materials on interfaith dialogue and
peace in the mandatory school curriculum so that “students open their vision
and have positive attitude towards
believers of all religions.”
Riccardi
described annual inter-faith gatherings organized by Sant’Egidio ever since St.
John Paul first hosted a summit of religious leaders in Assisi in 1986 as a
model.
“Our
meetings of prayer, friendship, dialogue are a challenge to hate and war. A
movement that has broken down walls and united in dialogue,” he said. “Over the
years, the conviction has matured that peace is always possible!”
“Religions
are sometimes fuel on the fire of violence,” Riccardi said. “They are
incendiary, because they are unfaithful to culture of their history. But
religions can be water that puts out the fire of war and hatred. Our history,
dear friends, shows that every true believer must have the courage for peace.”
Riccardi
also said that minorities had a right to their identity as it strengthened the
foundations of a nation. He said dialogue should be promoted at all levels of
society, different religions should promote the common good and welfare of
humanity, and that war is the mother of poverty. The religions, Riccardi said,
can help reduce wars, conflicts, and hatred.
Channan
expressed his gratitude to Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed el-Tayeb, for signing a
“Human Fraternity” document, which, Channon said, needs to studied and acted
upon by religious leaders and scholars. The text was signed by Francis and
el-Tayeb during the pontiff’s February 2019 trip to the United Arab Emirates.
Maulana
Abdul Khabeer Azad, a leading Muslim religious scholar in Pakistan, called for
international laws against hate speech, and also defended Pakistan’s track
record in combatting terrorism and religious extremism.
Among
other things, Khabeer noted that Pakistani religious scholars had issued a
unanimous religious decree against suicide attacks, terrorism and extremism.
“Now
is the time that religious scholars and civil authorities need come together to
solve the problem in which religion is used to settle personal scores,” he told
Crux. “We still see people discriminating and persecuting others in the name of
religion, depriving others of their basic human rights on account of their
religious affiliation.”
“Interfaith
dialogue gatherings help to defuse the tensions and build trust, respect others
and solve issues peacefully through dialogue,” he said, adding that the
Islamabad conference promoted “building relations on strong foundations while
respecting the religious affiliations of every human person.”

Iranian
Cleric Calls for World's Cooperation With Islamic Emirate
By
Mohammad Farshad Daryosh
28-01-2023
Mawlawi
Abdul Hamid, a religious scholar from Iran, asked the international community
to establish diplomatic relations with the current Afghan government in order
to improve the lives of the people of Afghanistan.
Speaking
during the Friday prayer, this religious scholar emphasized the importance of
the right to work and education for women and girls.
"If
these diplomatic ties are established, it will be better for negotiations. The
Islamic scholars may have influence in Afghanistan,” Abdul Hamid said.
Mawlawi
Abdul Hamid asked the Islamic Emirate to address the problem of human rights,
particularly the right of women to employment and education.
"We
hope that the issues of human rights and the issue of women's rights, women's
and girls' education, and the employment of women, can be solved,” he added.
The
Islamic Emirate also welcomed Mawlawi Abdul Hamid’s request to establish
diplomatic relations with the Islamic Emirate and said that efforts are
underway to resolve the problems that have arisen.
"We
are attempting to solve the complaints and worries that exist in this direction
as much as possible,” said Zabiullah Mujahid, spokesman of the Islamic Emirate.
The
former US special envoy for Afghanistan's reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad, US
special envoy for women, girls and human rights in Afghanistan, Rina Amiri,
have called for the provision of women's and girls' rights.
Khalilzad
asked the Islamic Emirate's leadership to take heed to Mawlawi Abdul Hamid's
remarks about the rights of women and girls.
“I
appreciate Mavlavi Abdul Hamid's Friday sermon today where he advocated for the
reinstatement of women and girls in education and for humanitarian assistance
for Afghanistan b/c of the extreme cold weather. Talib leaders should heed his
message,” Khalilzad tweeted.
According
to a number of analysts, it would be beneficial for both sides if the current
Afghan government and the international community established diplomatic
relations.
"The
government of the Islamic Emirate should reopen universities and schools as
soon as possible in order to avoid confronting the people of Afghanistan,
preventing harm to the Afghan people, and also avoiding confronting the
international community,” said Fazal HadiWazeen, a member of the International
Islamic Scholars Union.
"We
thought the school closings would be resolved in weeks or a few months, but
it's been more than a year and a half and the regulations have been rising day
by day," said SudabaNazhand, a women's rights activist.
The
Islamic Emirate's recent decrees regarding the suspension of women's work and
education have sparked worldwide reactions. Most recently, the UN Security
Council held a meeting behind closed doors to discuss the state of women and
girls in Afghanistan.

Islamic
Emirate: Daesh Hideouts Have Been Destroyed in Afghanistan
By
Fatema Adeeb
29-01-2023
The
Islamic Emirate says that many attacks of Daesh have been prevented and
strongholds have been destroyed.
----------
The
Islamic Emirate's spokesperson, Zabiullah Mujahid, added that efforts are being
made to suppress this group in various parts of the country.
“Their
extremely significant nests were destroyed in Kabul and other cities of the
country. The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is determined to eradicate all
Daesh nests and dry out the roots that strengthen them,” Mujahid said.
This
comes as Bilal al-Sudani, the leader of the Daesh branch in Africa, was
recently killed in an airstrike by American forces, according to the US.
The
White House has announced that Al-Sudani was responsible for financing Daesh
affiliates around the world, including the Daesh branch in Afghanistan.
“The
US military conducted a successful over the horizon counter-terrorism operation
in northern Somalia that resulted in the death of Bilal Al-Sudani, a leader and
enabler who for ISIS global network as well as well as approximately ten
additional ISIS operatives. Sudani’s activities provided funding to sustain
deadly capability of ISIS affiliates globally including ISIS Khorasan branch in
Afghanistan one of ISIS's most lethal branches,” said Karine Jean-Pierre, White
House Press Secretary.
"Daesh's
activity and presence in Afghanistan are not without danger to the security of
surrounding nations and the region, particularly those vulnerable countries,
but the true danger and threat from this group is towards the people of
Afghanistan,” said Asadullah Nadim, a military expert.

Saudi
Arabia condemns ‘provocative’ Qur’an burning in Denmark

Copenhagen, Jan. 27, 2023. (Ritzau Scanpix/Reuters)
------------
RIYADH:
Saudi Arabia on Saturday strongly condemned the burning of copies of the Qur’an
by extremists in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, “in a new provocative step to
the sentiment of millions of Muslims around the world.”
The
Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the Kingdom’s position, which “strongly
rejects all these blatant acts that have unfortunately been repeated in several
European capitals recently, under the pretext of freedom of expression, without
a clear reaction toward stopping these practices.”
The
Kingdom called on all European governments in which these extremist violations
occurred, to urgently address all these practices that contribute to fueling
hatred and conflict between followers of religions, the ministry said in a statement.
Rasmus
Paludan, a far-right activist who holds both Danish and Swedish citizenship,
already infuriated the Muslim world by staging a Qur’an-burning protest in
Sweden on January 21. On Friday, Paludan replicated the stunt in front of a
mosque as well as the Turkish Embassy in Copenhagen and vowed to continue every
Friday until Sweden is admitted into NATO.
Several
regional and international organizations, including the Organization of Islamic
Cooperation, Muslim World League, Arab Parliament and Gulf Cooperation Council,
also issued statements strongly denouncing the incident, along with Pakistan,
Jordan, Turkiye and Oman.

'How
hip-hop led me to convert to Islam'
By
Tim Stokes
29-01-2023
While
many people will tell you about music which moves them, for Ismael Lea South it
fundamentally changed his way of life.
Born
in Willesden, north-west London, in May 1973, the youth work consultant was
introduced to hip-hop music from a young age while studying at South Kilburn
High School.
"Our
school had a large African and Afro-Caribbean heritage. We used to listen to
people like Big Daddy Kane, A Tribe Called Quest, Public Enemy, Eric B &
Rakim," he tells BBC Radio 4's Sunday programme.
While
he admits initially he would simply be "nodding your head to the
beat", Ismael soon began noticing more about what his favourite artists
were saying.
"This
was a time when a lot of the rappers were using Arabic phrases, and they
weren't necessarily Muslims, so they would say things like 'Inshallah' [meaning
God-willing]."
"There
would be some rappers who would rap about how they started looking at life a
bit deeper and they'd rap about spirituality," Ismael explains.
An
example he gives is 1987's hip-hop classic Paid In Full by Eric B & Rakim,
in which Rakim "was saying he used to be a bit of a naughty boy but then
he learned that was not the way to live and now he wants to get a
nine-to-five".
"I
used to think 'what made him change from being like that to be getting a
nine-to-five' and he used to mention Islamic phrases, so that caused me to
think," he says.
The
next big moment for Ishmael was when he was invited by a friend to visit
Speaker's Corner in central London where rap group Cash Crew were performing
while on tour.
"So
we went to Hyde Park Corner not knowing what Hyde Park Corner was and I was
fascinated. I saw Christians, Muslims, Jews, socialists, agnostics, debating
each other and I thought 'oh gosh this place is brilliant'."
"He
was of the same heritage as me, Afro-Caribbean, he was dressed in Islamic
African attire and, when he was speaking and debating, no-one could compete
with him.
Six
months later, Ismael had a call from his friend who suggested they visit a mosque.
While there, he again came across Muhammad Khaja.
"He
said, 'Hi there, do you remember me? I want to speak to you more about Islam',
and then from there I started to learn and study."
While
initially being sceptical about becoming a Muslim, "as I want to have some
fun while I'm young", he eventually decided he was ready to convert.
But
while hip-hop had helped him become a Muslim, it would still take a while for
his family, who were Christians, to accept this new life.
"When
I embraced Islam I stopped drinking, I stopped eating pork, I stopped going out
partying - my family thought I was going crazy," he says.
"But
when I told my mum I want to settle down and get married, when my mum heard
that she said, 'oh, OK'.

Muslim-Muslim
Ticket Tensions: PFN is trying not to cause religious crisis
January
29, 2023
By DicksonOmobola
Let’s
look at the state of the nation. Elections are coming, just in a few weeks’
time. Ahead of the elections, we have issues of insecurity such as kidnapping,
and banditry across the country.
To
those who are close to me, I have always said that these things will take
place. I have always said we will come to a state like this. When the first set
of kidnappings took place, especially the kidnapping of white oil workers in
those days in the Niger Delta, I said this thing would turn into an industry.
I
said we had seen nothing yet. I said this thing will happen and young people
will form their own government. So, I am not surprised at all.
I
expected it because when you have six children and you don’t give them any
values, morals, education, or parenting, you provide nothing for them and then
they grow up in the street, what happens to them? They become vagabonds, isn’t
it? I see the President of a nation, governors and local government chairmen as
the parents of a nation who should treat every child like their own children
and provide them with the kind of quality things that they would give to their
children.
When
these things are not provided, then what is happening will certainly happen. If
changes don’t take place, I tell you the worst is yet to come. So, I am not
surprised.
It’s
like pastors are now being targeted by kidnappers. We saw what happened in
Niger where a pastor was burnt and many pastors have been victims of
kidnapping. What do you think?
Generally,
let me speak for the whole nation. I don’t see it as Christian leaders being
targeted by kidnappers. Some of them, like the Methodist Prelate who was
kidnapped many months ago, were not specifically targeted, they were travelling
and then kidnapped like others.
There
are other cases of pastors or men of God being kidnapped before the kidnappers
find out their true identity. But there is a particular case in Kaduna State
which is unique and different. It is like there are two types of bandits there.
Those
who kidnap and harass everybody and those who harass the Christian community,
pastors and people like that. The type that operates in Katsina State also
operates in Kaduna.
But
I don’t want us to bring religious colour into this. It is an ethnoreligious
problem that has been in Kaduna since. So, kidnapping came, and they converted
the ethnoreligious problems into kidnapping. We also see some pockets of people
being kidnapped perhaps in some parts of the Northeast because they are men of
God and their churches can bring money.
These
things happening so close to the elections have given rise to worries that it
may affect elections scheduled to hold next month. Do you share that fear?
The
problem in the Northeast, particularly Borno, has always been there. The
problem in Kaduna has always been there, but what really disturbs me most is
that of the South-East. For me, the greatest threat to the elections is from
that part of the country because of the agitation for independence and the
breakdown of law and order all over the country, not only South-East. Whichever
way it is, if the crisis will affect 5% of the population, the remaining 95%
should go ahead and vote. So, it is a problem.
But
for me, a government that thinks will know what to do about it. There are some
places where elections won’t be held, like in Sambisa Forest. They are already
excluded permanently. So, in the coming elections, there are areas within the
six geopolitical zones that are like Sambisa, those areas, whatever happens,
there should not affect the whole elections. What I mean is that if 5% of the
people do not vote because of one thing or the other, the remaining 95% should
not be stopped from casting their votes. For me, that is still a democracy.
But, if a huge number of the population will be affected, then it becomes an
issue, but I know it won’t get to that.
The
trial of Nnamdi Kanu is one of the issues generating tension in the South East.
Last week, Governor Soludo asked for the release of the IPoB leader, saying it
will bring peace to the region. But some people say he is playing politics…
For
me, that was wise of Soludo. He has suffered a lot of tragedies visited on his
government. Imagine an Assembly member being beheaded and the husband of Dora
Akunyili being murdered before he came into office. All these things, he has
seen the reality and the reality is that whether you like it or not, Kanu has
supporters. So, Soludo wants a political solution to this problem. Personally,
that is what I want.
During
the Niger Delta uprising, the Obasanjo regime came up with a political
solution. First of all, they used the stick onAsariDokubo, and later, the
carrot. A combination of stick and carrot worked there. If not, the Niger Delta
would have boiled. If the spirit that is in the Independent People of Biafra, IPoB,
boys were in those Niger Delta boys at that time, this country would have gone
nowhere. Let this government use the stick and carrot.
They
have used sticks enough, let them use carrots. That carrot is negotiation
because they cannot kill an idea that has turned into a pregnancy in many
people. They are ready to die. For me, negotiate to get him freed. Tensions
will go down and he will go back to the United Kingdom where he was based.
Whether he continues from there or not will be another matter. Let the tension
be doused. When I saw him brought back in chains from Kenya, I asked how an
Igbo man would feel about it. Won’t he feel like he is the one being chained?
People’s feelings should be brought into consideration. He can be freed and
asked not to step back in the country for a number of years.
Even
if a political settlement is brought into place, there will still be problems.
Some other groups will want to come up and turn it into an industry. Apart from
that, there is still the general unemployment of the typical Nigerian youth,
which is still also very prevalent in the South-East.
That
is also another problem of its own. So, the South-East insecurity problem is
not only as a result of the Kanu people who are angry due to the lack of
non-hearty inclusion of Igbo people at the highest level of governance. There
are also other groups who want to be prominent like Kanu, but I tell you, in
this country, it is sad. In Nigeria, people who are prone to violence, want to
use violence to achieve their means, for them, there is an unwritten knowledge
that violence pays.
When
Obasanjo was President, and he was about to end his second term, some people
said he should not hand over to a northerner, saying the South should retain
power. At that time, Chief Tony Anenih was still alive. I went to his house and
dropped a letter for him that stated that the presidency had to go back to the
North. I said it had to go back to the North and let there be a rotational
presidency.
It
will bring peace and a sense of ownership that would hold this nation together.
Look at how Switzerland is governed, you will say it is not democratic, but
what is democracy if it doesn’t bring peace? I am not saying that Peter Obi
should be President, but all I am saying is let there be a rotational
presidency in the Constitution and then it goes around the six geopolitical
zones in the country. Whoever comes in as President of this country, if that
person brings such a proposal, I think he will earn the support of a huge
section of the country.
Ordinarily,
if we had developed politically since 1960, we should not be talking about such
issues now. But we have not developed politically. The primordial ties are
there because we have not grown, we are not sensitive to other people’s
feelings.
A
mature person is someone who is sensitive to the feelings of another person. We
have leaders who are not mature. Muslim-Muslim ticket, we ought to have
outgrown it, but we have not.
I
feel that whether you are Muslim or not, you can bring development to a nation.
Whether you are a Christian or not, you can. It depends on your agenda for the
nation. Look at the Emir of Dubai, he is a Muslim who opened his country for
development. So, I don’t really care, I am interested in who will bring
development to this nation.
Where
do you stand on the position of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, and
Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, on the Muslim-Muslim ticket?
I
belong to CAN and PFN. If you have been taking notes, you will see that PFN is
trying as much as possible not to cause a religious problem by making too much
of a fight on the Muslim-Muslim ticket. You see that there is tension over the
ticket and the situation is being managed in a manner that won’t add to the
tension. Initially, everybody was angry, but as of now, no one wants to do that
out of anger, they want to see how things can go on well.
So,
if it works and it repeats itself again, then at that time, we might do
something about it. Let us assume that in the course of our political
development, Muslim-Muslim tickets took place in Abiola’s time and Tinubu’s
time, so we will say “let this possibly be the last”. I think even in Ghana,
they try to balance the ticket; despite how few Muslims are, they take them
into consideration. Let us mature the way Ghana has matured politically.
My
advice is like what the bishop at Ibadan said: “Let your children have the
character of whom you vote”. The character of who we vote for would determine
the character of the nation. We should vote out of conviction. By the way, why
are political parties formed? They are formed by a group who believe that this
particular idea should be used for the development of a nation.
They
have this idea of how this institution can be developed, they now team up with
you and say: “No, I have a better idea”, which could be a communist idea,
social welfarist idea or fascist idea. They now meet and form a party. Then ask
for votes. When they get into power, they use that idea to develop the nation.
But
in Nigeria, parties have not formed that way, which is why this institution can
never be developed. They are formed with the mind of how do we get power, what
is in this for me? As they are going to fight to support a person in the
election, they are going to fight for interest, the juice waiting for them. Any
nation where parties are formed this way doesn’t develop because they go there
with different ideas.
If
you read ‘Why Nations Fail,’ written by two Havard-trained people, you will
know that Nigeria can never develop if we continue this way. There is another:
‘From Third World to First World’ where one of the ministers Lee Kuan Yew says
“when I became a minister, and I went on the road, I saw schoolchildren which
made my heart skip, asking myself a question: ‘How shall we provide jobs for these
ones’”.
But
look at our leaders. All over the streets, there are millions of people. We as
a church are not political parties, but we are trying to see how we can use the
church as an instrument for development.
Bishop
Wale Oke, I knew him before he became the PFN President. I see him as somebody
who wants to see how the Body of Christ can contribute more to the growth of
the nation – politically, economically, and educationally.
I
am one of those who belong to that school of thought, that you can’t just wake
up, rent a place, put up a building, put up a sign board and start a church.
The spiritual health of a nation is very important. The mental aspect is
important. You see the state regulating education on how to set up schools and
how to get things done. So, for me, the spiritual aspect should not be left to
anybody to run.
I
am of this view and it has been my heart cry from the beginning. There are five
groups that make up CAN, PFN is one. African churches like Celestial make up
another group, Catholic is one group. My suggestion has been that let any group
that wants to practice their Christianity the way Aladuras do or the way that
PFN does, before you put up a church, you have to get a license from PFN to do
so; it’s just like medical doctors who get license to practice.
To
practise as a journalist you have to be under the Nigerian Union of
Journalists, NUJ; to practice as a medical doctor, you have to be under the
Nigerian Medical Association, NMA. The body gives you a license to operate
which is backed up by the government.
If
you want to set up a church, then PFN has to give you the license. They have to
ascertain your background and all before giving you the license to operate.
When you misuse it, it can be withdrawn. This is in case of any misbehaviour,
the people can report you to the disciplinary committee in each of the groups
and CAN generally.
Just
like there is a law that enables the NMA to regulate itself. I have been
advocating and propagating this because it will give us a sense of credibility.
The spiritual health of religion is too important to be allowed to be a
free-for-all.
Superintendent
of the Holy Spirit Mission (aka Happy Family Center) located in Shasha,
Akowonjo area of Lagos. In this interview, Ighele speaks on the state of the

presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the tension in

Charity
chiefs team up with Aberdeen mosque to hand out food in Granite City
By
Jon Hebditch
29
JAN 2023
A
charity handed out food packages and supermarket vouchers in Aberdeen as the
cost of living crisis pushes more to seek emergency help.
A
new report by the resolution foundation finds that there are large increases in
people unable to afford essentials compared to the pre-pandemic period.
In
November 2022, 28 per cent (up from 9 per cent pre-pandemic) of adults say that
they could not afford to eat balanced meals, and 11 per cent or 6 million
adults (up from 5 per cent pre-pandemic) reported being hungry in the past
month but they didn’t eat as they lacked enough money to buy food.
Tufail
Hussain, Director of Islamic Relief UK said: “Food banks are not a sustainable
or dignified way to help people who are struggling to survive because they do
not have a sufficient or reliable income. We will continue to support the most
vulnerable through our programmes, but food banks should not exist in one of
the wealthiest countries in the world.”
“The
current cost of living crisis has revealed just how much the UK’s benefits
system is failing to support those on the lowest incomes. Only long-term
structural change will give people the best chance of escaping poverty and
living with dignity.
“The
UK government must do more to deal with the immediate impacts of the cost of
living crisis, but also undertake a fundamental review of the UK’s social
security system with a view to ensuring benefits provide people with an
adequate income to cover their essential needs.”

'You

By:

JANUARY

Kerala
Governor Arif Mohammed Khan reportedly said on Sunday that the word Hindu is a
geographic term rather than a religious one, urging people to call him “a Hindu."
The
Kerala Governor was quoting the words of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, the founder of
the Aligarh Muslim University at the inauguration ceremony of the ‘Hindu
conclave’, organised by Malayalee Hindus settled in North America in Kerala’s
Thiruvananthapuram, according to PTI.
Addressing
the event, Governor Khan reportedly said “Anybody who is born in India, anybody
who lives on the food which is produced in India, anybody who drinks water from
the rivers of India is entitled to call themselves a Hindu and so “you must
call me a Hindu", Khan also said quoting the Aligarh University founder’s

Amid
Pathaan's success Kangana Ranaut says India is biased towards Khans and Muslim
actors; Twitter users school her
Jan
29, 2023
Kangana
Ranaut has been tweeting about Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan for the last couple of
days. Shah Rukh Khan's film has broken many box office records and emerged as
the fastest Hindi film to enter the ₹200 crore club in just four days of
release. Now, Kangana has tweeted about the film's box office success, saying
that the country is biased towards ‘Khans and Muslim actresses’. Recently, she
had warned Bollywood to not bring politics into the success of Pathaan and
simply enjoy the film's success. (Also read: After Pathaan, Kangana Ranaut
warns Bollywood to stay away from politics: 'Agar mainephir triumph over hate
suna to...')
On
Saturday, Kangana Ranaut, who recently marked her return to Twitter after her
account was banned in 2020 for violating the social media platform's rule,
retweeted a post made by another user, who had analysed why Pathaan emerged as
a box office success. Reacting to the tweet, Kangana wrote: "Very good
analysis… this country has only and only loved all Khans and at times only and
only Khans… And obsessed over Muslim actresses, so it’s very unfair to accuse
India of hate and fascism … there is no country like Bharat (Indian flag
emoticon) in the whole world (heart eyes, joined hands emojis)."
The
original tweet, to which the actor had reacted had shared that Pathaan was a
success because Hindu and Muslims love Shah Rukh equally, and there are no
‘Boycott tendencies' can harm Bollywood films instead they help them. Many
users reacted to Kangana's latest tweet and said that the actor was desperately
seeking attention by tweeting about Pathaan.

Rampur
(Uttar Pradesh): Muslim street vendors who have been setting up shop at the
Jwalanagar area of Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur city for nearly three decades have
claimed they were removed by administration to make way for Hindu businesses.
The local MLA has denied this.
Rashid
said that he and other street vendors like him who plied their trade from the
Ram-Rahim Setu area received a notice from the municipality to fold up their
shops on January 13. They had two days. Sellers like Rashid sell household
items, toys and clothes.
After
two days, he says, some had left in compliance with the notice. But on January
15, 12 officials from the municipal corporation and eight policemen arrived and
destroyed the shops that were left, say Rashid and other vendors.
Rashid
says that this sudden action took place even though he and others who had set
up shop in the area had paid fees to the Municipal Corporation to run the
street stalls.

Contempt
power not a tool to execute decrees: SC
Nasir
Iqbal
January

ISLAMABAD:
The Supreme Court has held that the power to initiate contempt jurisdiction,
vested with the superior judiciary, is not a substitute to execute or implement
decrees passed by the courts earlier.
“It
is undesirable,” noted Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan on Saturday while deciding an
appeal by the National Highway Authority (NHA) against the Jan 26, 2017 and
March 30, 2015 judgments of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on several intra court
appeals.
Justice
Amin-ud-Din Khan was part of the three-judge bench that also comprised Justice
Sardar Tariq Masood and Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel.
The
dispute surfaced when the NHA acquired land — measuring 204 kanals and six
marlas through June 30, 1996 award No 5 — for the construction of PindiBhattian
Interchange on Islamabad-Lahore Motorway at the rate of Rs2,000 per marla. The
award was accepted by the land owners but it transpired later that only 39
kanals and seven marlas of land were acquired and it escaped mention in the
notification on the award.

Jan 2023
Businesses
in Bangladesh still point to corruption as the biggest barrier to their

Corruption

infrastructure, cited by 44.6 percent of respondents, and issues of limited

Why
1971 Bangladesh genocide is not recognised by UN
29th
January 2023
By
Tarana Halim
As
a child of liberation who was just five when my countrymen won freedom from an
oppressive Pakistan military junta over an 'ocean of blood', I feel strongly
about why the UN has so far not recognised the 1971 East Pakistan genocide as
one.
I
consider this to be the biggest failure of the global body 75 years after the
UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide came
into force.
On
December 9, 1948, the international community formally adopted a definition of
genocide within the 1948 convention – essentially enshrining the message of
"never again" in international law.
Rachel
Burns points to the many genocides that have occurred since the 1948 convention
and its ratification in 1951, and only three of which have been legally
recognised – and led to trials – under the convention: Rwanda in 1994, Bosnia
(and the 1995 Srebrenica massacre), and Cambodia under the 1975-79 Pol Pot
regime.

Repercussions
of European governments support to abuse Islam will reflect their security
& stability
28/January/2023
SANA'A
January 28. 2023 (Saba) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the
continued ignorance of European governments of the abuse of terrorist
extremists in all countries of the world by allowing them to commit hate crimes
by burning copies of the Holy Quran.
In
a statement to Saba on Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned
allowing of the Danish authorities to the leader of the right -wing Danish
"hardline" party, Rasmus Paludan, to burn a copy of the Book of God,
in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, under security guard.
It
considered the support of European governments for terrorist extremists who
offend the Islamic religion and its symbols, as a result of the continued
spread of populist discourse in Europe based on the basis of belief, race or
religion.

Eight
projects the Issa brothers are building in Lancashire including Starbucks,
mansions and mosque
By
Amy Fenton
28
JAN 2023
In
just over two decades Mohsin and Zuber Issa have gone from the humble
beginnings of a terraced house in Blackburn to self-made billionaires.
The
brothers, who both attended Witton Park High School, were brought up by
Indian-born Vali and Zubeda who came to the UK from Gujarat in the 1960s to
work in Lancashire's textile industry. Their parents later ran a petrol pump
which no doubt sparked the inspiration behind the creation of Euro Garages by
Mohsin and Zuber in 2001.
After
buying their first petrol station in Bury the two brothers embarked on an
ambitious empire-building journey that would see them become two of the most
successful businessmen from Blackburn. Aside from their majority ownership of
Asda, completed in 2020, annual sales from Euro Garages exceeded €20 billion in
2021.

Stranger
at the Gate – He planned to bomb a mosque but that’s not how it ends
29-01-2023
I
didn’t know what to expect when I sat down to watch Joshua Seftel’s
Oscar-shortlisted documentary Stranger at the Gate, but even if I’d had any
expectations, they would certainly have been blown out of the water by the
shocking story it tells. Stranger at the Gate documents the extraordinary
personal journey of former US marine, Richard ‘Mac’ McKinney, a journey which
is engaging, unexpected, and moving.
As
I begin to watch the film, I feel sure that the story which is about to be told
will be a tragic one, a cautionary tale about what can happen if PTSD is left
untreated, if loneliness, fear, and dislocation are allowed to fester in a
person’s psyche. I feel uneasy. I feel a sense of foreboding. There is a sense
that the people in this film are looking back on some horrific event and trying
to piece together how it could have occurred. I feel sure that this story is
leading somewhere dark. Somewhere bad.
As
Richard McKinney talks through his mindset post-marine career, recounting the
way in which he has been encouraged to see all muslims as targets, as faceless
enemies, rather than human beings with thoughts and feelings of their own, we
as an audience can feel the palpable anger and irrational hatred bleeding
through the screen. It is shocking to see this mindset revealed so openly. How
can someone feel such hatred for a person they have never interacted with based
simply on their race or religion? How can someone truly believe that a muslim
child is a ‘future terrorist’, believe it so wholeheartedly that they are
driven to tears at the thought of their own child sitting across from them in
school?

Mufti
Mubajje’s new term starts on shaky note as Muslims wrangle continue to bite
By
Derrick Kiyonga
January
29, 2023
History.
For 23 years, mufti Mubajje has superintended over the old Kampala Muslim
faction recognised by the central government. Mubajje’s group has been accused
of being an offshoot of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) is
embarking on a controversial term amid court battles and wrangles with former
allies.
It’s
not unusual for religious wrangles to find their way to the courts but
there is always something dramatic when
Muslim wrangles go for adjudication in the court room. It’s now 12 years ever since Hassan
Basajjabalaba was hounded out as the chairperson of Uganda Muslim Supreme
Council (UMS) – that’s dubbed as the mother organisation and governing body of
all Muslims in Uganda. Basajjabalaba had been the right-hand man of Sheikh
Shaban Mubajje, the mufti who is recognised by the central government. But in
an indicator of how volatile Muslim wrangles can turn out to be, it was
Mubajje’s group that orchestrated a plan to oust him on grounds that he had
corruptly sold off Muslim property.

nothing for the people to be proud and happy about with the proposed

He
said although its aim is to commemorate Sarawak’s 60th anniversary as a party

‘The
Impassioned God’ Of God-Loving Jews And Muslims
By
Rabbi Allen S. Maller
January
29, 2023
In
1956, ShelomoDovGoitein (1900-1985), an Israeli scholar of both Jewish and
Arabic studies, wrote that the name special name of YHVH derives partly from
the Arabic root h.w.y(هوى), and the word hawaya (هوايا),
which means “love, affection, passion, desire.” Goitein pointed to the passage
in Exodus 34, which forbids Israel to worship other gods (Exodus 34:14) “For
you must not worship any other god, because YHWH, whose name is Impassioned, is
an impassioned God.”
Goitein
thought that “YHWH whose name is Impassioned ” refers to the deity’s personal
name YHWH, which means “the Impassioned One,” and that this name derives from a
proto- Arabic Hebraic term for passion. This reflects the idea that YHWH’s bond
with his worshipers is one of interactive passionate love, and thus YHWH is very
upset if some of his worshipers “cheat” by worshipping idols or other gods.
For
monotheists the word God is not a name of the one God like Allah or YHVH. It is
the generic term for any and every deity, similar to the West Semitic root word
EL as it is found in Sumerian and Akkadian Ellil-Enlil, and Hittite and Hurrian
Ellel, and Hebrew El-Elohim.
